i both love and hate that i keep finding different moths in my house. why are they here? i dont want them to get caught on the sticky traps i put out for the flies. but also, very fun to see so many different varieties and knowing my garden probably plays a role somehow.

SUMMER RECIPE BLOGGIN' lifted this from my dear friend @adirtnap -- it takes 15min, all ingredients i (or you! if you do a lot of chinese cooking) have on hand, and RULES every time

rough recipe transcript, ingredients bolded:

cut ends off 6 mini cucumbers, smack with flat of a knife until the centers are crushed but not fully separate pieces

cut cucumber diagonally, cover with 2/3 tsp salt, let sit

crush 2 cloves garlic -- she uses mortar and pestle, rolling pin or wooden spoon also works

drain cucumbers

MIX WITH: - crushed garlic - 1 tbsp chinkiang vinegar - 1 tbsp chili oil - 1/2 tsp sugar - 1/2 tsp soy sauce - 1 tsp sesame oil

refrigerate for later or serve immediately!

The echinacea is looking a little rough since it has gone to seed. We could deadhead them but the Goldfinch have been enjoying them and we'd rather have Goldfinch than a second round of blooms:

We've had four days of off & on rain that was sometimes been pretty heavy. The area behind our carport where we keep our compost bins gets flooded because the people that own the rental house next door covered a drainage grate with at least 3 inches of mulch. That water is ankle deep but I braved it to bring juicy vegetable scraps to the hungry black soldier fly larvae in our bins:

Sunday dinner. The meat is the only thing on this plate that we didn't grow in our backyard. That is Southern-style kale in the center prepared like traditional collard greens with onion & smokey pig... in this case, bacon:
