Note
What sort of faint ideas and connections do you have so far from your research and with RGG characters like Mine and/or whoever else?
Things I want to explore, in no particular order:
The construction of gender as a matter of linguistics, as expressed on a spectrum by RGG characters
The (apparent) evolution of the portrayal of gender non-conformity in RGG
The fascination some straight women develop with gay men, Mine's popularity in-universe with women, and Yokoyama's apparent amusement at the idea of a Highly Desirable Man that "women can't have" because he's gay
Acceptance and visibility, how that's impacted the way Japanese people discuss queerness, and the ways RGG has reinforced and broken the mold over the years
Hijikata's relationship with sexuality and its interplay with the historical account (if we are to assume he and Mine have that in common), and potential implications for Mine

FSR chapter 2 progress notes + Theories on Servant identities.
Ok so like.
I was discussing with @/aokozaki about Saber being either Susano-o or Sukuna Hikona, the most water aligned sword users I could think of.
The sword of Saber seems to control the wind. All these swing attacks (like the raindrops skill) lend creedence to the sword being Ame-No-Murakamo. But Susano-o wasn't the only wielder of that blade, as it was passed down to Yamato Takeru, as the Kusanagi-No-Tsurugi. I found a picture of them in all white and went 'oh yeah that's Saber'.
Stories about the Yamato line are recorded in the Kojiki, a chronicle of japanese myths and legends that also justified why the Yamato line should be the rightful rulers (very reductive but yes).
Rogue Saber shows up with a skill in reference to Hachiman, a divinity or archery and war. From this, I believe that he is Emperor Ojin, Hachiman's mortal appearance. A good deal of information about him can also be found in the Kojiki, so we'll keep using that when dealing with Assassin.
Assassin seems distinctly Japanese, so I looked for snake related stories that also connected a person or being to snakes themselves, especially ones that feature within the Kojiki.
I found Suwa Myōjin, or Take-Minekata, who has several origin points but seems to have some kind of seperntine themed serrated weapon, and can assume a serpentine or draconic form. It's not perfect in explaining their control over snakes, but it explains the snakes within the design- especially the story wherein a warrior (Koga Saburo) was turned into a snake during underworld travels, and then became Suwa Myōjin once reverted to human form.
Rogue Beserker has a skill called howl of repentance, and temple-levelling something, alongside long long hair.
Hi Samson.
Anyway this game is super fun, I love rabbit holeing through mythos and stories.

In celebration of Ishin’s release in a few days, I’m bringing you information that everyone (no one) has been waiting for: What would Hijikata sing in the karaoke minigame? He’s the only friend that doesn’t sing (unless RGG decided to change this in the remake. We’ll see.)
A kyoudai from Reddit shared a video of Hijikata’s VA singing about a certain historical figure. Now we have a potential candidate for his karaoke song:
- Linky Link - Note from OP: He’s singing about shogun Iemitsu Tokugawa.
Iemitsu was the 3rd Tokugawa shogun. Yoshinobu (Daigo) is the 15th one. The song could still work if you change the names, unless there’s something specific in the lyrics that I’m missing because I don’t speak Japanese.
(Yes, I think Minekata simping for Daigonobu is amusing. He simps in all universes.)
*All credits for this discovery go to the Reddit kyoudai jack-468. Credits to Shido Nakamura for making this shitpost possible with his amazing performance. Shipping brainrot thoughts are my own.

Watching Bakumatsu Without Honor and Humanity (modern-day bakumatsu retelling with yakuza, I guess? Maybe?) and I was gonna make fun of this guy for just having a photo of Sakamoto Ryoma on his lock screen to stare at wistfully before remembering I'd probably do the same with Minekata

I love minekata because Y3 has trained you to expect a complete disaster. every time he's on-camera in ishin, you're just waiting for the other shoe to drop. obviously the guy is gonna go from "approximately as hinged as everyone else in the shinsengumi, maybe more hinged than okita" to "gives ryoma izo's head in a bag and then burns down his farm-level unhinged," you think - but it never happens! the guy is one of your closest allies to the very end! best use of a cameo character in the whole game imo. love him dearly
