What sort of faint ideas and connections do you have so far from your research and with RGG characters like Mine and/or whoever else?
Things I want to explore, in no particular order:
The construction of gender as a matter of linguistics, as expressed on a spectrum by RGG characters
The (apparent) evolution of the portrayal of gender non-conformity in RGG
The fascination some straight women develop with gay men, Mine's popularity in-universe with women, and Yokoyama's apparent amusement at the idea of a Highly Desirable Man that "women can't have" because he's gay
Acceptance and visibility, how that's impacted the way Japanese people discuss queerness, and the ways RGG has reinforced and broken the mold over the years
Hijikata's relationship with sexuality and its interplay with the historical account (if we are to assume he and Mine have that in common), and potential implications for Mine
#asks#anonymous#yakuza 3#like a dragon ishin#yoshitaka mine#hijikata toshizo#minekata#i think i'm forgetting something but Oh Well#literally just from chapter 1 though lmao every paragraph in queer japanese makes my head explode#3rd one is an incredibly bad incredibly half-baked idea btw no promises. i do have more than one book on it though#and the last one with hijikata... is a LOT heavier than it sounds. so i'm still mulling it over#i have somewhat similar thoughts on jo (or in the same vein) as with hijikata but that's on even shakier ground and in headcanon territory#also a lot of these have next to nothing to do with mine and a whole lot to do with other characters
