Minecraft Challenge Idea!

Survival Challenge: Be vegan.

I'll make the exception for hostile mobs but for the over all idea you can't kill any mobs or eat anything that is involved with a mob like cake. Just crops and bread and what not. If u need wool you sheer the sheep, if you need leather either find a way to get it like trading/bartering or find it in chests. Certain mobs become practically useless to you, like pigs.

I've done this briefly before I took a break playing the game for a bit and it wasn't that hard but it was easy to forget sometimes. My rules were I was only allowed to kill negative mobs that attacked me or posed a direct threat to me. And everytime I killed something I had to either kms or burn a diamond.

Adventure Challenge!

With the results of my poll in, I will now be opening my challenge! I don't have a set name, as I like Adventure Challenge, but the Nomad challenge is also an awesome name. The goal of this challenge is to explore your Minecraft world! You must make a Survival base in every biome. The goal is to test your survival skills, keep you moving, and keep the environment fresh and interesting! Either way, here are the rules:

You must make a survival base in each biome.

When you move to the next biome, you may only take a pack animal (horse, donkey, or llama) and anything that can fit in your inventory. Your pack animal can also carry items.

Before leaving, you must make a nether portal at your base. HOWEVER! You cannot make a nether base until all overworld biomes have a base. (You may freely travel between old bases)

A survival base is complete if you meet the following conditions: your hungry does not go to three or below in an in-game week, you have an area safe from mobs (this does not count simply sleeping through the night), and most importantly, you do not die.

What happens if you DO die? Well, each base you begin to build has three lives. When you use up these lives you must abandon your base and leave with only what you can carry (see Rule 2). That base then DOES NOT count towards the biome and you must start fresh. Here are the win conditions:

You have a base in every biome, including the nether and the end.

There is only one! But it is a difficult task, right? I will be blogging my own challenge as I go through it on a new world seed. If you also want to join in and do your own Adventure Challenge, tag me! I would love to see how y'all do!

so what is squidcraft 3?

this is a yearly twitch rivals minecraft event hosted by a spanish speaking streamer from el salvador called komanche. with the additional help of eufonia studio who are video game developers. this is a twitch event based off of the netflix drama squid games. and last year it held about 200 content creators both spanish and english speaking. this did start as a spanish creator only event and then the second became international if i’m correct. generally though this is a huge twitch rivals event especially in the spanish speaking content space it’s one of the biggest. its also pretty competitive but that can depend on your pov for the event since its also just a space for a bunch of creators to interact. and so this will be the third one held and they’re currently announcing participants every day! this event lasts multiple days and the people competing will have to do multiple challenges every day whether they’re individual or team based and slowly as the days go by people will die and be eliminated. whoever survives last gets the grand prize i know that last year it was 100k. this year the event will be on november 12th so in three days. here is the official trailer for this years event

this year there are a lot of familiar faces for those who watched the qsmp

as of right now they have officially announced (also like i previously mentioned they are still announcing people so we could get more qsmp members): rubius, spreen, quackity, luzu, maxo, mariana, roier, carre, missa, rivers, foolish, bbh, tina, bagi, fitmc, lenay, tubbo, etoiles, pactw, aypierre, philza, kameto, and germán

for those that watched purg 2 you may recognize in this event the following: seapeekay, natalan, axozer, soarinng, barca gamer, crystal molly, aldo geo (the great winner🏆)

some english speakers here may already be familiar with this event as tina and foolish have played in it before and this is where they got to interact with mariana and roier for the first few times before the qsmp was a thing!

i’d also like to mention that i believe this is the first time theres brazilian creators apart of this event. additional correction shadoune is the first french speaker to take part in this event.

its a cool event but as a reminder people can die on the first day and you know not be able to partake in the other days so be a good sport, watch another pov if your fav dies, and just enjoy it. its an event that means a lot to the spanish speaking community so just have fun with it !!! and be fucking nice !!!!!

I finally finished a NEW CUSTOM MAP ART!!! "Visitor," a portrait of an enderman, is extra exciting because it's my first full-palette map painting, meaning I used block height to access all the highlight and shadow colours available!! More on the full process under the cut, but the short version of what this means is:

ITS A VERY COMPLICATED CONSTRUCTION. I created the art, then planned and built this manually, without any mods or schematics for construction. Huge props again to everyone else in the server for helping me gather all the materials to make this absurd thing possible!!!

This was the original art I made for it! I'm a huge fan of the "compressed" look of the vanilla paintings, so I've been starting with a large image and shrinking it down, though there were a lot of pixel tweaks to get it to read well. After shrinking it to 16x32 (for an art made of two maps), I convert it to a limited palette that I've set up to match the colours minecraft actually has available:

The map palette is actually tremendously limited, so figuring out a painting that will still look good with that constraint is a challenge in and of itself!

Anyway, the way minecraft maps work, a block that is Taller than the block to the north of it shows up with a slightly lighter colour, and a block that is Lower than the block north of it shows up on the map with a slightly darker colour. So when making a key for this one, I marked all the squares with a little arrow if it's the lighter or darker version:

Each "pixel" here is a full stack of blocks on the mapped area: 64 blocks, 8 rows of 8. In order to achieve the affect of every block in a given pixel being taller or shorter than the block to the north of it, dark and light shades need to staircase either up or down. Because staircasing downwards in survival sounds even worse than this madness, I did some planning to make sure each of the "downwards" staircases would touch the ground, so I could simply staircase up from south to north instead. This involved figuring out how many up and down movements were in each individual column and planning out 32 little layouts:

It's worth noting that if you look up minecraft map art on Youtube, most of what you'll find is either, the simple realisation that placing blocks allows you to make custom map art, or an explanation of how to use a generator that will let you plug in any picture and then produce a schematic for you. It's very cool that these exist, but I wanted to do full palette art myself, without an auto-generated schematic, and at the time THERE JUST WEREN'T ANY TUTORIALS FOR HOW TO DO ALL THIS?? Now, having the experience of finagling all this, i think perhaps the reason is that this is a mad undertaking.

Fewer shots of the second half since I did it on call with friends; the last screenshot is one Thren took of me activating the new locked map to use for the gallery.

Once these paintings are done, I lock the finished maps, make copies, and stock them in the art gallery so other friends on our server can also put these paintings in their homes! It's a lot of work, but really rewarding to see my art decorating various buildings around the server. ;u;

I have one more custom full-palette painting I've done the art for and gathered all materials for; I still need to do the full key and plan staircasing for it before I can start, but HOPEFULLY if my resolve doesn't waver there'll be at least one more of these!!

Have you ever thought about making a survival series for the times when you're not in an SMP or have nothing to upload? Maybe a hardcore series with a friend, perhaps the guests could switch out every episode?

I've had a few people ask me about this but it's not something I'm super enthused about. I'm very aware of the self sabotage I'm undergoing by not uploading between life series but I just haven't found a format of Minecraft videos that really tickles my brain AND would have enough appeal to the masses, it is a business after all

I think you need to have a certain caliber to do a hardcore series on YouTube. It's either being a great builder or you're cracked at the game and do the challenges / 100 days vibe, I'm neither unfortunately

I just feel I'm at my strongest in an SMP environment where I can crack jokes, have low stakes on builds then incorporate in my other things like animation, pixel art and pranks.

I've been doing this for nearly 15 years now, so I'm definitely at the "only if I love it" phase. Which is dire for consistency but I'm ok with that

Project LUMEN: APPLICATIONS OPEN!!

Ever wanted to relive the stories woven by the Watchers, exceeding the limits of what Minecraft is able to offer? How about venturing in a perilous journey full of twists and turns, and most importantly, loooooooooooore?

Well, why hello there! To kick off the start of 2025, Kori, Arto and Pinkie here, and we are proud to present “Project LUMEN”! Our newest scheme to conceptualize and develop a video game based off the traffic-colored hearts we are all so familiar with. An ambitious project, that’s for sure, and that is why we are opening applications to join our little team, right on time to welcome the new year! :]

Once a pile of jumbled, senseless ideas, Project LUMEN has evolved into a more fleshed-out collection of story beats and mechanics. An RPG-like game revolving around the tales within the Life Series, a collection of death games ran by the mysterious deities that call themselves Watchers. The player takes on the role of the Watcher Child (affectionately referred to as WC), following and guiding the Champions chosen by the Watchers themselves through challenges and enemies. Featuring unique leveling systems, DnD inspired classes, and, most importantly, the ability to impact the story with the choices you make… because, after experiencing all the Life Series seasons from both the Watcher and the Player side, maybe you’ll have a change of mind. After all is said and done and seen, the world is yours to shape, Watcher Child.

Right, so that’s a basic summary of the concept we have, now here’s a little preview of what we have written for the prologue :3

Chapter 0: ‘The Watcher’s Apprentice’

The player takes the form of a Watcher in training, an ageless child, the Watcher Child. The most powerful and ancient Watchers, unexplained cryptic creatures that live up to their name by watching all, talk about a new series of experiments they have been running, called “The Life Series”.

The only rundown that the WC was given was that a carefully selected group of talented players were asked to test their little Life game for them, where they each have only three lives. Whoever survives last, wins. There were no rules as to how they could play the games. The Watchers then add that they, along other WCs, will be observing from the viewpoint and thoughts of one of the players. This is so the WC can get an idea of the Watchers' work. Of course, our little WC was ecstatic and ever so curious about this new idea.

Fast-forward (and after a couple of tutorials showing off the bare basics of the battle mechanics in the actual game), now our WC was standing in a circle with other apprentices just like them. The Watchers then hold a deck of mystic cards in front of each of them, and everyone picks one. When the cards are revealed, our WC sees a glowing, red card with a person on it. The card simply said, "THE SUN".

Huh, I wonder who could that be…

Now, we get into the thick of it: who are we searching for to join our team? Well, there are some requirements that the potential members should fulfill, here’s a comprehensive list of key points:

We are mainly looking for artists to help us with designs, sprites, backgrounds and UI. Although, we also welcome any writers willing to help us with developing concepts and adding more ideas!

Every person who applies should be involved with the Life Series fandom, we want to build a team with people as passionate about this Minecraft series as we are!

When answering the Application Form, please type in your favorite type of flower (in case you do not have one, just write 'sunflower') in the "Anything else to add?" part, this is only to ensure you've read the announcement :]

Welp, glad you asked. The current plan is, while the applications go on for a week or two, constantly post pieces of concept art and just story bits on this blog, then all the people selected to join the team will be added to the blog as members. We plan to post updates, concept art, sprites and small lore drops periodically on that blog to hopefully garner an audience, and it will also be open for asks and suggestions so that, even if some users aren’t part of the team, they can still help bring this absolute beast of a game to life. Ideally we will work on a small demo experience first with placeholders and stuff to just get the mechanics right and get some testers, and after that, use all feedback, polish the art, deliver a beta version for playtesting, then fix the last details and then release the full version on itch.io, that’s our roadmap. :D (there's the possibility to also publish a browser version to Newgrounds with mobile compatibility tho, so mobile users do not fear!)

Well, Project LUMEN is a very, very hefty task, a big plan to undertake, and, in all honesty, too much work for only three people. Also, talking from experience, having other person involved in development has helped LUMEN to give gigantic steps, helping to ground ideas and give inspiration, now, imagine how far we could go if we had more people in this squad. We are not only looking for artists, we are looking for people whom we can brainstorm with and throw concepts around to polish them and grow the game even more. However, we also wish to keep the team directly working on the game fairly reduced, we are thinking 3–5 people more, but depending on the amount of responses we have, we might consider expanding that number.

The spirit of the game is to be made by the community for the community, we want to offer a quality game, and, by working together, we will be able to make Project LUMEN the best it can be. Though, you need to be aware that this project is solely fueled by the passion we have for the Life Series, and we will not profit off it at all. Please, take into account that this is likely going to be a months-long project, and only apply if you are willing to put in the effort in the long-run, that’s all we ask for.

On the bright side though, by joining in the developing of the game, you’ll be able to contribute to it as much as you’d like, change anything, add anything! You’ll have your rightful spot in the credits and probably a cameo in-game, the team may be small, but we know that, with the right people, we will be able to get it done (cleo is in the storyline too dw).

After years of exploring the vast worlds of Minecraft, surviving the treacherous Nether, and building monumental structures, he was used to facing danger and overcoming challenges. However, there was one challenge he had never encountered: emotions. Especially the kind that made his heart race, his palms sweat, and his thoughts swirl in confusion.

Garrett, the strong and cocky miner who had joined Steve on many of his adventures, had always been a mystery. With his dark, unruly hair and an egotistical demeanor, he seemed to exist in the shadows of Steve's life. Garrett wasn’t like the others in the blocky world they called home. While Steve spent his time building, fighting, and crafting, Garrett had a tendency to disappear into caves, searching for the precious ores that lay deep beneath the surface.

It was on one such adventure that Steve began to notice things about Garrett that he had never seen before. The way Garrett’s smile lit up the night sky when they finally found a rare gem or the soft look in his eyes when he handed Steve a piece of diamond armor. For a long time, Steve brushed it off, assuming that the feelings stirring within him were just admiration for his friend's skill and resilience.

But the way Garrett looked at him, especially when they were alone, started to make Steve question everything. His thoughts became tangled. Was it just the heat of their shared adventures? Or was it something deeper? Something more? Steve wasn’t sure, but the more time they spent together, the harder it became to ignore the feelings that seemed to be growing inside him.

One evening, as they sat around a fire near their base camp, Steve noticed Garrett’s gaze lingering on him longer than usual. The flickering flames cast shadows across his face, but Steve could still see the glint of something in Garrett's eyes. Something that made his heart beat a little faster.

“Garrett,” Steve started, his voice unsure, “is there something on your mind?”

Garrett hesitated, his fingers toying with a small stick he had picked up from the fire. He looked away for a moment, clearly lost in thought, before turning back to Steve with a look of quiet determination in his eyes. “Steve… there’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you for a long time,” he began, his voice lower than usual, as if the words weighed heavily on him.

Steve felt a knot tighten in his stomach. He wasn’t sure why, but something about the way Garrett spoke made him nervous. “What is it?” Steve asked, trying to mask the uncertainty in his voice.

Garrett took a deep breath, the words coming out in a rush. “I… I love you, Steve.” The confession hung in the air like a cloud of tension, thick and charged with unspoken emotion. Steve’s heart skipped a beat, his thoughts momentarily frozen as he processed the words.

“You… love me?” Steve repeated, almost as if he didn’t believe it at first. The idea of Garrett, the cocky gamer, feeling something so powerful for him was almost incomprehensible.

Garrett nodded, his expression serious yet vulnerable. “I’ve loved you for a long time now,” he continued. “I’ve been afraid to tell you, scared of what it might mean for our friendship. But I can’t hide it anymore. Every time I’m with you, I feel… complete. You make me feel like I’m more than just a star gamer. You make me feel like I can build something real…”

Steve’s mind was racing. He had always thought of Garrett as his closest friend, but now, hearing this confession, it was like a veil had been lifted. His feelings for Garrett, which he had been denying, suddenly became clear. He wasn’t just an ally or a teammate. Garrett was someone he cared about in a way that went beyond friendship.

“I never knew…” Steve said, his voice trailing off as he struggled to find the right words. “I didn’t know you felt that way. I don’t… I don’t know what to say.”

Garrett’s face fell slightly, the weight of his confession seemingly too much for him to bear. He looked down, his fingers still playing with the stick in his hands. “I understand if you don’t feel the same. I just needed to say it, even if it means… losing everything.”

Steve quickly reached out and grabbed Garrett’s hand, stopping him. “No, Garrett. I didn’t say that.” He swallowed hard, his throat dry. “I… I think I feel the same way.”

Garrett looked up, his eyes wide with surprise. “You do?”

Steve nodded, a shy smile forming on his lips. “Yeah. I’ve been too scared to admit it. But now that you’ve said it… I can’t deny it anymore.”

A silence fell between them, but it wasn’t uncomfortable. It was as if the entire world had paused, allowing them to savor this moment. The crackling of the fire was the only sound, and in that quiet, Garrett leaned in slowly, his eyes searching Steve’s for any sign of hesitation.

Steve closed the distance between them, his heart pounding in his chest. When their lips met, it was soft and tentative at first, as if they were both afraid that this moment might shatter if they weren’t careful. But as the kiss deepened, all of Steve’s doubts and fears melted away. It was real. Garrett was real. And this moment was something neither of them would ever forget.

As they pulled away, their foreheads resting against each other, Steve whispered, “I think we’re building something, Garrett. Something that’s even stronger than anything we’ve made in this world of blocks..”

Garrett smiled, his eyes shining with affection. “Yeah,” he agreed softly. “This.. I need us.. Donde esta la biblioteca.. That means I need you in Spanish..” It definitely didn’t mean that, but the heat was too strong for Steve to even question his words. “Get your ass over here then..” Steves' voice was husky with need and desire, which made Garret's core knot up

Has an apartment in the same neighbourhood as his parents' house so he can visit a lot when he's not deployed. His apartment is very basic and he stays there so his parents have their privacy. Their house is his home.

It is a bit more intense than the typical 'German stare', and more off-putting because of his size.

Like I said before, he is unsettling and might say something as such, coming across a bit too strong.
