Anne Boleyn is possibly the most influential queen consort in history, being one of the main factors of England’s break from Rome (which helped to spark the Protestant reformation in England) and the mother to one of England’s most important and inspirational monarchs: Elizabeth I ‘the virgin queen’.

The new costume mainly included changes to the sleeves, armbands, and mesh leotard. It also introduced the black squares at the bottom of the top and a slightly thicker waistband for all queens after Millie.

The main changes introduced were a new style of skirt construction and increased/changed studding.

All three of the Boleyns with the 3.0 design previously had the Boleyn 2.0 design (note that Maddison’s 2.0 seems to have been altered to follow the 3.0 design, but it doesn’t entirely do so). The Broadway alts (Courtney Mack, Mallory Maedke, and Nicole Kyoung-Mi Lambert) will be wearing the 3.0 design.

Collette went on as an emergency over wearing Millie O’Connell’s 2.0 costume. 

Courtney Mack (center) was the alternate for the North American Tour butdid not receive her one costume. She instead wore Andrea Macasaet’s 2.0 costume from the North American Tour.  

Courtney (right) also went on earlier than expected for her Broadway debut. Her costume was not finished, so she wore a combination of Andrea Macasaet’s 2.0 and 3.0 (Broadway) costume. The top is from the 2.0 design; the skirt, earrings, and tights are 3.0. She’ll be wearing the full 3.0 style when Broadway returns.

*Millie O’Connell also wore this design for part of the 1st UK Tour.

Janes marriage to the king of England.

On the 30th of may, 1536, Henry VIII and Jane Seymour were married by Archbishop Cranmer in a private ceremony in the Queen’s Closet at Whitehall Palace.

Due to Anne boylens recent execution (merely 11 days prior to Henry and janes wedding) Anne’s falcon emblem, which could be seen around whitehall palace, was hastily replaced with janes emblem , which was a phoenix rising from a tower surrounded by those burgeoning roses reflecting both a Plantagenet and Lancastrian inheritance and Anne’s initials were replaced with Janes.

Henry, in celebration of their wedding, gave Jane a beautiful cup, with both Henry and janes initials entwined with a love knot. Janes Motto; ‘bound to serve and obey’ can also be seen throughout the design of the cup.

Elizabeth Norton, a historian, suggests that the union of Jane Seymour and Henry VIII was not met with as much hostility as janes predecessor, Anne Boleyn.

One brave man was charged with claiming that ‘the king, for a frawde and a gilte, caused Master Norrys, Mr Weston, and the Queen (Anne Boleyn) be put to death because he was made sure unto the Queen’s Grace (Jane Seymour) that now is half a year before’

Perhaps there were more people who thought negatively of the union, but most kept their mouths shut in fear of getting arrested.

In October 1536 one of the largest rebellions in Tudor history took place, The Pilgrimage of Grace. It is reported that Jane begged Henry to restore the abbeys and monasteries but that Henry quickly reminded her of the fate of his last wife, that wouldn’t be surprising as it was the last time that Jane was ever reported to meddle in political matters.

On October 12, 1537 Prince Edward— later Edward VI— was born. This was a joyous occasion for both the king and queen. Finally Henry had a healthy male heir. But Jane was to succumb to the fate of most Tudor ladies, the combination of poor hygiene and lack of medical knowledge saw janes health deteriorate the days following Edwards birth. Jane died from complications from childbirth on the 24th of October 1537.

Jane is the only one of Henry VIII’s wives to be given a proper funeral for a queen, and is the only wife to share Henry’s grave at St George's Chapel, Windsor castle. Henry wore black for months after janes death and waited two years to marry again, the longest interval between marriages during Henry’s reign.
