by the way if youre ever scared to go to a cafe and you dont know what the drinks are
a hot latte is espresso shots, steamed milk, foam top
an iced latte is shots, cold milk and ice. no foam
a cappuccino is shots, steamed milk, a lotta foam
cappuccinos usually arent iced, but they could make it iced by using cold foam in some places (not most)
americano hot is shots and hot water
americano iced is shots, ice and cold water
a mocha is just a latte with mocha syrup and usually whip cream
and a white mocha is the same, just with white mocha
for all the espresso drinks, you can usually ask them to add syrups to make it sweeter - or they will even have pre built drinks on their menu, like a vanilla latte. some places are less flexible than others - but it never hurts to ask!
if you want regular coffee with cold milk just say that
but if you want the milk steamed, its a cafe au lait
if you want something frozen and blended, most places have some version of this - they could be frappes, frozen ______, or ive even seen “chillers” - these are great if you want something like the texture of a milkshake :-)
chai and matcha are built similar to an espresso latte, its the tea with milk (can usually be done hot or iced). chai is spicy and sometimes sweet and matcha is a more refreshing herbal flavor
ummm this is so long sorryyy. i just know people can get anxious to try new things so. i can explain more drinks if anyone wants to know ^_^

Food Consistency
My wife (who has gastroparesis and frequently needs to go on liquid diets) was watching some tiktoks about people on liquid diets.
People in both the videos and the comments had extremely different (and often startlingly wrong) ideas of what a liquid diet is.
So I figured I would do a post to clarify for anyone who might be confused, and maybe save you from having a surgery rescheduled due to eating the wrong things.
Clear Liquid Diet:
A clear liquid diet is a diet where ONLY liquids you can see through are permitted. That means no other solid food (that won't turn into a clear liquid in your stomach), no chunks, and no milk. If you're prepping for a surgery or colonoscopy there might also be limits on what food colorings are permitted as well (usually red and purple). A clear liquid diet includes:
Water
Flavored drinks (sports drinks, soft drinks, Kool Aid, etc...)
Broth/stock (vegetable, chicken, beef, etc...)
Popsicles/italian ice
Fruit juices (no pulp)
Gelatin
Coffee/Tea
Specialty clear liquid protein shakes
Full Liquid Diet:
A full liquid diet is a diet where ONLY clear liquids and cloudy/opaque "full" liquids are consumed. No other solid foods and no chunks are permitted. A full liquid diet includes:
Everything on the clear liquid list
Milk and milkshakes
Yogurt (no chunks)
Ice cream (no chunks)
Pudding
Custard
Blended Diet:
A blended diet is a regular diet in which the food has been blended with water. Usually, this is the consistency necessary for a gastric feeding tube.
Everything on the full liquid list
Smoothies
Blended soups (no chunks)
Applesauce
Literally anything as long as it's been put in a blender and is now liquid-y
Pureed Diet:
A pureed diet is a diet in which the food has been mashed into a very fine mash. It can be thicker and drier than a blended diet and the food can be "molded" into shapes that resemble the original food on a plate. This is good for people who have few to no teeth or pain with chewing.
Everything on the blended list
Mashed potatoes (no chunks)
Anything the consistency of mashed potatoes
Mechanical Soft Diet:
A mechanical soft diet is one that is easy to chew. Unlike pureed, there can be small chunks. Examples include:
Everything on the pureed list
Oatmeal/cream of wheat/cream of rice
Very well cooked vegetables
Ground and finely chopped meats
Poached or soft boiled eggs
Cottage cheese

Low Budget, High Taste Milkshakes
Requires no ice cream! You’ll need:
some kind of blender
1 cup any milk
1 frozen banana
(opt) 2-3 tbsp of peanut/nut butter of choice
(opt) 2-3 tbsp of cocoa powder
(opt) a few ice cubes for that extra cold and frosty texture. try also frozen berries if you’re feeling fruity!
1. Slice up frozen banana. Keep the peel on if you want- it’ll get blended up either way and I promise you won’t even notice. If it’s a little too frozen hard, let it thaw for a few minutes. I usually use a full banana since the ones I buy are on the small side, so go with your heart on how much nanner you want.
2. Gently slam dunk the banana slices into the blender. Pour in milk. Add other stuff.
3. Close up the blender container tight and blend til smooth for about a minute. (I use a nutribullet, and I like to pulse the contents a few times first before going all the way through.) Do taste tests if needed, and adjust ingredients to your personal perfection.
4. Pour the milkshake into a cup. Give your blender container a good strong water rinse and it’ll be clean in seconds. If your blender bottle is designed to be handheld, feel free to skip the cup.
5. Sit down and enjoy your drink!
#submission#recipe#no heat#blender#vegan#vegetarian#dessert#but not just dessert - it can be a nourishing meal too!

Wiggly Wednesday: Steve the experimental barista
So I've been watching a lot of James Hoffmann videos recently, even though I don't drink coffee, because I find him funny and charming and he has a wonderful voice
(James Hoffmann video here if you've never heard of him)
youtube
And I came across this reel of him making a Krispy Kreme coffee because, as he says, it's fun to have fun.
And my mind went hang on. Very tall swoop of hair. Cute little glasses. Nice sweater.....
Steve and Robin working at/owning a coffee shop where Steve gets really into fun and experiemental coffee prep of all different kinds. He has those drip coffee makers that look like alchemical equipment as well as more 'normal' machines.
He perfects the donut coffee and the cinnamon roll coffee like, so many different dessert coffees and the kids call him a coffee scientist. He always gets self-deprecating and says no, he's just having fun. In Summer he does iced coffees and in winter he has a whole line of hot chocolate with home-made marshmallows and honeycomb. Each Saturday he does coffee demonstrations because he just wants people to have fun and find a way of drinking coffee they like, and he wants to show off his gadgets.
Of course Eddie wonders by one day and is instantly smitten by this man in his sweaters and round glasses doing mad scientist shit with Eddie's morning cup of joe. They get to talking and the kids recognise him from the game shop and are very into the two of them being friends, but the cafe is always super busy and they never quite manage to exchange numbers despite all the flirting.
Summer comes and Steve's blending up ice and demonstrating coffee milkshakes and white chocolate iced lattes, and it's been a long hot day and he has his sleeves rolled up his biteable forearms, and Eddie maybe hasn't drunk enough today or really...eaten anything (got up too late for breakfast) and he maybe sort of faints in the coffee shop.
Steve of course gets him to a chair and a glass of water and then an iced coffee with a pink straw, and they chat a bit, and Steve asks what Eddie's favourite dessert is. Eddie panics and says peach cobbler.
Cue Steve obsessing for a month on how to turn peach cobbler into a coffee. Making peach syrup and vanilla-cinnamon milk and little cobbler-streusel crisps for the topping. Still never quite getting it right and making Eddie taste each one.
Eddie hopes by the time he gets up the nerve to say his favourite dessert is actually brownies, he'll have finally got Steve's number.

lets imagine baby vbs going to the cafe for a snack. simple, right? just a snack, nothing to it, but here come the babies on their way to cause a bit of chaos.
✮⋆˙ toya asks for a tea, to which meiko of course obliges. however, after being served, he looks at it and meiko, back and forth, in confusion, to which he points and asks for boba. miku's giggling in the corner as she watches meiko practically do a walk of shame to get the pearls.
✮⋆˙ akito wants a milkshake, but as meiko walks over with the ice cream and milk over to the blender, akito starts protesting for her to stop. he suggests he doesn't want it blended, insisting on it in a bowl, like a soup of sorts. oh and he wants boba too.
(he then presents the bowl to toya, who takes it, admiration shining in his eyes.)
✮⋆˙ an insists on 3 quesadillas and no less. she declares that she'll be helping len (and that shes the kitchen queen, making sure that her food is just perfect.) she does most of the work, telling len to quiet when he tries to give instruction and giving him ingredients to run for. rin ends up coming in to help so len can have a break (he's the big one! he should be the one in charge), where he sees the boys' snacks and decides maybe he should try that ice cream soup for himself.
✮⋆˙ kohane simply asks for a peach bun and latte art of the four of them. miku’s the one with the artistic hand this time around; kohanes delighted to see her masterpiece. she’s also the one being subjected to making three more latte arts after the rest of the squad realizes they wanted some pretty coffee too!
afterwards they all decide to pile up on the couches and take a big nap. being chaotic is a lot of energy, you know!

Darius and Hunter spend time at an amusement park, and its all fun and games until Hunter expects Darius to just drink this nasty looking drink, just because he asked him to? What, he thought he was going soft for him? He still had his dignity intact, he was not going to drink what looked like vomit in a cup. (He totally drank it)
---
“Hunter, I thought you told me that you were going to get us some tea.” Darius shook his head at exasperation, glaring at the two bright green slush in identical plastic cups. “ This isn’t tea.”
Hunter gave Darius a toothy, mischievous grin that had Darius regretting having ever trusted Hunter to get them both something to drink while he held both of their spots in line at some corny roller coaster he hadn’t bothered to remember the name of. “But it is!” He smirked, not noticing the only semi-playful glare Darius was trying his best to give him (it was hard to be mad at the kid, okay?). “According to the cashier, it's a human specialty! Apparently it's all the rage with human kids my age.” He smirked, leaning against the gray railings.
“Yes well, in case you haven’t noticed, we are both not human teenagers. Titan, I’m not even either of them.” Darius sighed. He was probably being dramatic but in his defense he was really looking forward to some Seawater extract tea.
“Aw ‘come on! We need to get in the spirit, we’re human today! Everyone here is!” Darius rolled his eyes, a small smile betraying his face. He had taken Hunter to a new Human themed amusement park and although he had initially been worried that Hunter would be a bit too old to enjoy going on rides with Darius for the day, he was pleasantly surprised by how happy Hunter seemed to be, beaming and quickly obsessing over the atmosphere of the park.
“Yes, I must admit that attitude is fun to an extent, but tea is where I draw the line, the human world is filled with absolute tea filth.” Hunter pouted, his hands clutching on to the two cups.
“Aw come on Darius, don’t be so stubborn! I bet you’ll like it if you give it a shot. It’s tea, kind of hard to screw up.” Hunter tried shoving a cup into Darius’s arms, who simply crossed them, refusing to look at the mucus colored goop.
“It’s not tea, it's a milkshake.” He swatted the cup as they began to move forward, “an ugly one too.”
Hunter stomped behind Darius, still holding onto his two cups. “It is not a milkshake, it's a blended ice tea. A Green Tea Frappuccino with Oat Milk to be specific.” Hunter smiled smugly, Darius almost smiled at how proud he seemed to be with himself. Almost.
“Oat milk? What strange sorcery exists that allows for oats to be milked?” Darius raised an eyebrow at Hunter who merely sighed and shook his head. “Just drink both, little prince.”
“Noooo,” Hunter whined as they climbed halfway up the stairs following the line and ignoring the strange demonic sounds coming from the strange, mythical human creatures such as a panda and a giraffe. “I wanted us to try something together! You know, adventure together!”
Darius looks over at Hunter, who is staring down at his tattered shoelaces biting his lip. His expression softened, bending down to reach eye level with Hunter who looked at him with a confused expression. “Fine then little prince, if you wish to go on an adventure, then I will follow eagerly.”
He relished in the way Hunter’s eyes lit up with excitement. “Really?” He broke out in a wide grin – it saddened Darius when he later realized it was the happiest he had ever seen the poor boy – and jumped up and down. “Oh this is going to be so cool!”
Darius chuckled as he watched Hunter carefully inspect each cup. “Well? Don’t make me wait too long, I’m becoming more and more convinced against this idea each second that follows.”
“Hold up, I'm checking which one has more.” Hunter smiled, squinting at both of the cups.
“Oh give me that,” Darius grabbed a cup out of his hand, playfully shoving him in the process.
Hunter snickered, “you seem awfully eager.” Darius rolled his eyes, and with a smile, brought the straw to his lips. “Wait!” Hunter poked his arm, “Let’s take a photo of us drinking it for the first time together!” He leaned his scroll against the railing on the floor. Just as he was about to scold Hunter for setting his dirty scroll on the dirty floor, he looked over and saw Hunter beam, yelling out, “Chug it Darius!”
They both took a sip on cue together, an eager slurping noise coming from Hunter. Darius tensed, expecting a bitter flavor but was surprised by the sweetness of the tea? If he was being honest, although he did enjoy it, it tasted much more like a milkshake than an actual tea. He decided against bringing this up as he saw Hunter’s excited expression, his cup already a quarter of the way down.
“Take it easy little prince, I don’t want you getting sick on me. This cape is new, if you vomit all over it don’t think I am above making you pay for it to be cleaned.” Darius said, lightly laughing.
“ISN’T IT SO GOOD DARIUS?????” Hunter chirped, slightly louder than what was socially acceptable.
“Yes, yes it us little prince, I should’ve never doubted you.” He smiled at him, the two of them walking to a cupboard where they were instructed to set their bags (and drinks, much to the annoyance of Hunter) before getting on the ride. Just as he was about to follow Hunter to their seat, he received a notification from Hunter’s Penstagram account. There he was, a small smile on his face sipping on the icy drink with Hunter who was slurping it excitedly. Captioned underneath the photo read, “Adventurous eats with my dad!!”
Darius was absolutely beaming on that stupid photo they took of them on the stupid roller coaster, making sure to frame that photo on the wall, making it the first of many family photos.

Note
get full fat ice cream, any flavor
then get some milk, whole milk is best, buy any milk will suffice
eyeball that shit into a blender and blend
pour into a cup, add whipped cream or any other toppings you like.
boom. Milkshake.
oh yeah I've tried milk + ice cream milkshakes before lol. Haven't really considered this option, completely forgot about it, thank you! I even heard once that adding I don't exactly remember, maybe some kind of yoghurt or more likely heavy cream? Yeah I think it was heavy cream, makes it denser or smth like that. Might try it later and even if I don't, still thank you so so much. I appreciate it, I genuinely really really do!!

Home Nursing Advice Column #1: Convalescent "Sick" Foods
Sick food comes down to calories and nutrients. The more the better.
Since sick people may not want to eat, packing as many calories as possible in as few bites as possible is essential.
You also want to start easy and move your way up to more complex foods. Consider this:
Clear liquids: Broths (have electrolytes), bone broths (have protein and electrolytes), full sugar gelatin (has carbohydrates and protein), full sugar popsicles (have carbohydrates), broths with added butter or oil (has electrolytes and fats).
Then move up to full liquids with fat: Whole milk (with added cream or half n half if you really need to pack in the calories- contains fat, electrolytes, carbs, and protein), chocolate milk (fat, more carbs, and protein), strained or blended cream soups (fat, carbs, electrolytes, and protein depending on ingredients), non-chunky ice creams/milkshakes, yogurt, milk alternatives with added oils, protein shakes.
Then move up to a high calorie soft regular diet: scrambled eggs with cheese, mashed potatoes with gravy, gravy and sauces on everything, cream cheese in/on everything, well cooked vegetables with butter or oil.
The goal is high calorie, because being sick takes a LOT of energy, and often leads people to eat lower quantities of food than they normally would.
This advice goes even for people who are overweight, diabetic, or generally sedentary. People need calories for healing!
