"A clinical trial studying severe allergic reactions in the U.K. is being called “life-transforming.”
Five United Kingdom National Health Service (NHS) hospitals are participating in the £2.5 million ($3.2 million) trial to help patients live with their food allergies.
The study is being funded by the Natasha Allergy Research Foundation, Sky News reported. The foundation was formed in the memory of Natasha Ednan-Laperouse, who died in 2016 after eating a baguette that had sesame in it...
The trial is studying clinical oral immunotherapy treatments in which patients are given small doses of the food to which they are allergic to build up their tolerance. The food is given under medical supervision by trained staff, The Telegraph reported.
The study has 139 people participating who have allergies to peanuts or cow’s milk. They range in age from 2 to 23 years old, the BBC reported.
The Food Standards Agency said 2 million people in the U.K. have a diagnosed food allergy. In the U.S., about 5.5. million children have a food allergy, the National Institutes of Health reported.
One 11-year-old who was diagnosed with a severe peanut allergy when he was an infant can now eat six peanuts.
A 5-year-old with a milk allergy can drink 120 ml of milk every day and can enjoy a daily hot chocolate, the BBC reported.
“To have a patient who has had anaphylaxis [Note: Anaphylaxis is an allergic reaction so severe that it's potentially fatal without immediate treatment. It is very common with peanut allergies in particular. x] to 4mls of milk to then tolerate 90mls within six to eight months is nothing less than a miracle,” Sibel Donmez-Ajtai, a pediatric allergy consultant and principal investigator at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, said, according to Sky News.
The final results of the study are expected to be released in 2027.
Similar studies have been conducted in the U.S. To find one, visit FoodAllergy.org.
Earlier this year, the NIH released the findings of a study of an antibody treatment that would help children consume allergy triggers safely."

Anyone with a milk allergy needs to be on high alert. In the midst of a flurry of ongoing food recalls, the FDA has updated its initial recall of a handful of Cal Yee Farms' chocolate products to the highest risk level. Originally, the FDA announced a recall of numerous Cal Yee Farm products because they may have contained undeclared milk, soy, wheat, sesame, FD&C #6, and/or almonds. The recall has now been elevated by the FDA to the most serious level of recall, Class 1, for only a few of the affected products: the company's dark chocolate almonds, dark chocolate apricots, and dark chocolate walnuts because the chocolates contained undeclared milk.

psa for usamericans with food allergies :\
ID: a screenshot which reads: FARE will continue to share alerts as we have in the past, but the food allergy community should be aware that because of a recent presidential administration directive, there has been a mandated pause in external communications from the Department of Health and Human Services. This includes external FDA sharing of food allergen recalls. Until this changes, you may also want to check FDA's recall page directly for most up-to-date information. end ID

If you’re ever at the doctors and they ask you the same question 15 different ways and you’re like, I already answered that, does this bitch think I’m stupid? I don’t. However please bear in mind the mom I just talked to who said very clearly that her daughter does not eat: milk, any milk products, any cows milk products, yogurt, cheese but DOES eat: cows milk formula, mac and cheese, ice cream
#while rolling her eyes at me like IM the stupid one. ma’am#my official diagnosis? she does not have a milk allergy. congrats.

#dragon age#dragon age poll#dragon age polls#poll#dragon age origins#ok now I have no opinion either way on whether Alistair is lactose intolerant#but I want to get in before people say his love of cheese means he can’t be lactose intolerant#as someone who has studied biochemistry I can tell you that cheese has almost negligible lactose#most of it gets broken down in the cheese-making process#and even people who have absolutely no ability to digest lactose can consume about 250mL of cow milk a day before getting serious symptoms#bc it’s not an allergy it’s just that your stomach can’t digest it so the bacteria in your bowel do it for you#and they produce a lot of gas in the process which causes the symptoms#BASICALLY someone who’s completely lactose intolerant can eat so so much cheese before getting serious symptoms#sorry to be a nerd about it but as you can imagine there are very few opportunities day-to-day to talk about biochemistry

spent years drinking lactaid milk bc my mom had a lactose sensitivity. did in fact get the shelf-stable milk, which is regular whole milk, and each little carton comes with a little straw and I was so charmed I was like, god I'm gonna actually have to just have some milk, it's too fucking cute. sitting here drinking milk at age 30 and going 'since when the fuck was milk this good?????'
#you have my sincerest deepest sympathies if you have a lactose sensitivity or allergy.#LACTAID AND ALMOND MILK ARE SO GOOD THOUGH.#BUT GODDAMN. MILK.#IT'S SO GOOD. WHAT THE HELL.

Has an allergic reaction at 3am. Managed to calm it down in the end. Double checked ingredients on all my food. Only thing I can put it down to is cross contamination of some food.
I've been vegan for a year and a half now, mainly due to milk or lactose being prevalent in many ingredients. I'm not a pushy vegan; I believe everyone is entitled to their choices. But milk is a serious allergen, and I quite enjoy being able to breathe. This has to be other ingredients that do the same job as milk.

Do I take the risk of ordering groceries delivered after what happened last time, keeping in mind that I paid a not insignificant amount of money for a membership to this grocery store specifically for the benefit of having groceries delivered, or do I put on pants and shoes and pull my hair up and find a jacket and get out my cart and drag myself all the way over to the grocery store, where I will be tired and hungry and probably buy a ton of random crap I don't need just because it's there
#i suppose if they cancel my order randomly again i can always go to the grocery store myself tomorrow#i will not be renewing my membership <3#and i will never ever be using instacart they cant do ANYTHING#when instacart first entered my awareness they kept running this ad on my pandora stations#where they were talking about how they could handle all sorts of diets#vegan lactose free gluten free you name it! instacart has you covered!#spoiler alert instacart does not have you covered#because shortly after this started i ordered from this grocery store for the first time and it went through instacart#and i had some almond milk on the order#which like#hmmmmmm#lets think about possible reasons why i maybe put ALMOND milk on the order#and the shopper swapped it out for whole milk without even notifying me#not oat milk or soy milk or lactose free milk#whole milk#well that hasnt happened since so my suspicion is that that was just a personal problem with that guy#possibly one of those people who gives people who ordered diet coke regular coke at restaurants#because i KNOW the store wasnt out of almond milk#but well trust destroyed#if i had an actual allergy i would never allow instacart anywhere near my groceries again#lactose intolerance is really more of an inconvenience for me#anyway#its really windy out so i think i will order groceries#speaking of milk i should go see if mine is still good

I'm mildly allergic to cocoa and lactose intolerant
Still just made a warm cuppa of hot chocolate because it's appropriately cold and perfect to accompany my book reading
I hope the Interviewer is proud of me
Okay I get it because I do these things too but PLEASE take care of yourself. I have a lot of allergies and I truly understand the urge, but please be safe. The Interviewer also wants you to be safe.
Here is a cocoa recipe that you don't need milk for:
Oat-Milk and/or Oat-Milk-Cream (!!) There are recipes for making your own oatmilk from oats, if you can't find any! I found vegan heavy cream on the basis of oat at some point and it's been a lifesaver. Rice milk might work too, as well as almond, but I find it then to be very watery. I do stan oats though.
Boil and add dark chocolate: if you are allergic to cocoa, it might be that you are allegic to a specific thing that gets out due to processing it further. If you know what part is the issue, there might be ways to go around it. Melt the chocolate in the oat-milk and let it boil for a minute, be aware there will be foam but in my case, it actually makes things edible for me that I wasn't able to have before! You're the expert on your own allegies, so you know best.
Adding actual chocolate makes it thicker as if you used cows-milk.
Add some cinnamon on top, maybe some sprinkles of vanilla - especially the cinnamon is nice when it's cold and rainy!
Enjoy!
