the urge to let my grades drop so maybe they'll notice how fucked I am except I would rather die than have them notice of how fucked I am

Best thing being a military kid gave me is an excuse for my auditory processing delay, so now I ask how to spell people's names and if they say "it's the regular spelling" I pull the "I grew up in X country, it's probably different to what I consider common spelling" and then they give me their name without judgement and I don't have to ask five times before I hear their name for the first time

there needs to be a new trend where all military kids make up the most outlandish stories and see how long it takes for their friends to realize that its fake

Fun fact I learned by being a Military kid:
The Military has a professional reading list in order to serve as an alternative teaching tool for things like military Maneuvers and strategy. Included In this list is the book “Ender’s Game” by Orson Scott because it (apparently) accurately portrays military strategies, in fact it was one of the first books added when the list was created in 1988 (three years after the book’s release). I haven’t actually read the book or anything but I have seen the movie and it’s DEFINITELY an anti-war story, (MAJOR SPOILERS FOR ENDER’S GAME but both versions are 37 and 9/10 years old respectively by this point so . . .) the protag’s whole realization at the end is he’s been drafted into a horrible war without his knowledge which has lead to the near extinction of an alien race that is he can kind of understand on a fundamental level, and he now has to deal with the ramifications of his actions after going through most of the book being told by a shady government man that there would be none and that everything he did was only a simulation. I find it hilarious that the Military hands its trainees a book with that strong of an anti war Message.
Side note-
I didn’t even go back and rewatch that movie or anything, that ending was just so potent that it stuck with me after nearly a decade, even if I didn’t entirely get what it was trying to say when I saw it, but some how they’ve just kind of been ignoring that whole part. Lmao.

okay so as the child of a vet i am going to add to this post. (in a positive way. very anti-military here. first paragraph doesn´t seem like it but military big no no to me)
my dad served in the air force for almost a decade. he never got shipped out, and stayed in the us for his entire time. when my mom got pregnant with me, he resigned and came home. he says that joining the military was the best thing that ever happened to him.
it was the worst thing that happened to me. even though he was resigned when i was born, and he has never been active-duty in my life, it made my life awful.
the military is strict, as we all know. and he took the strictness, the cleanliness, and the order that he learned in basic training, and applied it to our life at home. specifically how we cleaned the house. if i didn´t sweep the correct way, he would dump the dirt out of the pan and make me sweep again. íf we didn´t clean our rooms well enough, (¨well enough¨ means all surfaces dusted, vacuumed, floor cleared, bed made, closet and drawers organized, window screens vacuumed, windows clean) he would yell at us and throw away toys/other stuff. there are million other examples of what he did, but this post would be way to long.
my dad threatened to send me away to military boarding school, told me that joining the military is the best path in life, and actively encourages me to enroll. all that talk of how ¨great¨ the military is actually made me think that way. in middle school, the recruiters came to my school. i told them i wasn´t 18 but i was interested in joining. i was 12. i wrote my email and phone number down, and they told me they would contact me when i turned 18. i regret the decision now, and i didn´t join.
my point is, that if you join the military, and plan on having children or already have them, that you risk ruining that child´s life. even if you are not active while they are alive, even if you never leave the country. it will affect your entire family. so if you care about your future family, don´t fucking do it. ¨It´ll pay for my college!¨ they don´t pay for the whole thing. they pay a percentage, depending on how long you serve. so you can´t do just your minimum four years and get free college. not how it works.
¨I want to help people¨ the military doesn´t fucking help people. they kill people, mostly innocent civilians. join peacecorp or americorp, or be a firefighter, doctor, paramedic. those are organizations that actually help people.
don´t fucking do it. don´t ruin more children´s lives. please.

Actually I have one more "Turned out queer despite no queer rep" story but this time my influence on other people:
It was around 2nd grade? and I was comforting a friend of mine (a girl) who was being bullied to the point of tears by this other girl
I repeated to her the HORRIBLE advice that the adults in my life told me which was "If you're being bullied, they have a crush on you"
I think I phrased it like "You're very pretty, she probably just wants to date you!!"
and she said "girls can't date girls"
and I said "yes they can, I'll ask her for you"
AND THEN THEY ACTUALLY STARTED DATING
It was elementary school so it didn't really mean anything, but the mean girl genuinely chilled tf out and for the rest of the year they were holding hands and picking flowers for each other and shit
It's the military so ofc one of them moved away the next year, but I'd like to think I helped them realize something about themselves for later in life
