I wrote Mike Wheeler suffering again

It was the weekly party movie night. A night where whoever pulls their name from a hat full of labels gets to pick a movie the rest will suffer watching, Mike never wins, and his chances are dogshit seeing as this isn’t just the small party of six, it’s the whole extended party down to Murray.

This week Robin won the hat, so naturally, there’s a depressing movie on- Mike isn’t really sure what it’s about he’s not entirely focused.

That is until main character walks by a cliff. Just walks by it, it happens to be in the background.

And shit goes sideways.

Will is in front of him, grasping his arms and telling him to breathe and Mike frowns because what? He is breathing, but he’s wrapped around Will’s little finger so he does anyway, and then realised why Will’s so panicked.

Mike can’t breathe.

Nancy is behind him, holding him tight and whispering hushes in his ear- a new development in their relationship. A few years ago if you told Mike Nancy would brush his hair and kiss his forehead and hug him when he’s scared he’d have laughed in your face.

“Mike, breathe slowly for me, please?” Will begs as the rest run around, getting Mike water or hovering nervously, also speaking their own hushes and pleas.

There’s a sob rupturing from Mike’s chest before he even feels it, and he tries desperately to reign in his racing breath. He gets a lasso around it and pulls until it’s back with him, and he’s clutching his chest in painful relief and taking slow, stabilising breaths.

“There we are.” Nancy whispers, brushing some hair from his face after Jonathan ruffles it.

Will shimmies into the armchair with Mike and brings him into his arms, which drives the rest of their friends to dog pile him until they’re all groaning about the lack of space.

But Mike doesn’t really mind being cocooned, their arms around him makes him feel safe.

El squeezes his hand, “What was that about?” She asks gently, but Mike recoils regardless.

He knows he has to tell them something. He’s been meaning to tell them since it happened, and it happened six years ago so… been a while.

But he can’t get the words out. Can’t handle the looks on their faces when they find out what he nearly did. So he turns to Dustin instead.

“Cliff. Is all he manages, but Dustin understands regardless.

Watching their eyes become glossy and their chins quiver and Dustin tells the story of his suicide attempt- forced or not, nearly sends Mike into a spiral all over again.

“Never do that again!” Will scolds as he holds Mike close like he’ll evaporate if he so much as loosens his grip, “Ever.”

Mike nods in agreement, “I promise.” He chants to his friends.

Along with scientists in labs, russians, monsters with more than four limbs, and possession, cliffs are another thing that can no longer be shown in their movies.

literally nothing is funnier to me than the idea of el telling hopper that she and mike broke up and him being like “oh. sorry kid. a great decision tbh, but sorry” and then throwing himself a little party, and then like a month later will’s like “dad meet my boyfriend” and hopper just sits down and takes several very deep breaths because mike wheeler is somehow his future son in law again what the fuck

I like to imagine that Finn and Noah will exaggerate the Byler kiss soooooo much

like the duffers will make it big,I know they will because it’s so important but Finn and Noah will put their heart and soul into that kiss

they will make it the best kiss in cinematic history,even if the script was ‘soft peck on the lips/cheek’ you know they would full on snog each other

they know what the Bylers want and they will deliver

they will make it so dramatic and do whatever it takes to make it so Milkvans can’t say Will forced himself onto Mike,or that Mike didn’t enjoy it

basically Byler kiss will have so much effort and heart from everyone involved that it will more than satisfy the needs of Bylers everywhere whether or not it’s they way you would’ve wanted it to go (ie.some ppl want a rain kiss some want a church kiss/UD kiss)
