Germany's AfD: A Deep Dive into the Controversial Party's Election Manifesto
In a dramatic turn of events, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party held a recent conference in Reza, Saxony. This has set the stage for a contentious battle in the upcoming federal elections. Roughly 600 members gathered. The party finalized its manifesto and sharpened its stance on migration. They confirmed former Goldman Sachs analyst Alice Weidel as their candidate for Chancellor. The…

one of our readings for last week talked about how in some cases immigrants from third world countries are recruited/incentivized by first world countries in order to create a new source of exploited labour within that country to reinforce the hierarchy of racial/class systems and i haven't stopped thinking about it
#ro talks#using this blog because i don't??? know if there is a better blog or place to put it so#onto here it goes#i have not stopped thinking abotu it. those are my ancestors bro....#the filipino immigration booms in the 60s and 70s? like. lol#like yeah my mom's aunts and parents were Literally immigrants because there was a call for#migrant workers that could do blue collar or service work jobs#lower class manual labour. exploited labour that would allow for growth of capital that doesn't benefit them#god it makes me SICK. anyways

I believe in a leftist philosophy, but I am finding it hard to join in with some online lefty communities. The purity tests and infighting just do not interest me. There are people who think if you slightly deviate from the proper leftist ideal you are then a "bad" person so then it is okay to harass a "bad" person.
Of course you can call someone horrible names and say they should die. They are a bad person and all bad people deserve that. Right?
Some seem more interested in calling out bad leftists than actual right wing fascists. If I hear "AOC is turning into Nancy Pelosi" one more time my eyes are going to roll out of my head.
And I think this entire voting thing has crystalized how I feel about this. I'm frustrated with how many people seem to be allergic to long term strategy and realistic goals. They value performative actions that yield no tangible benefit rather than long term problem solving, strategic thinking, pragmatic action, and building power over time.
The right to vote is precious but the act of voting is not.
It is not an endorsement.
It is a tool.
I'm using that tool and choosing who I'd rather argue with.
I'm voting for myself as a disabled person and a friend of trans people and as someone who doesn't want to protest migrant concentration camps in addition to the genocide in Gaza. I'm making a strategic decision that I hope will help achieve a better outcome for myself and other marginalized groups.
And on a more personal level, I had to watch my mother die a horrible, painful, lonely death because of an incompetent president. I don't think I can handle the trauma of continuing to see that horrible man in the news every single day. My motivations are multifaceted.
Spending time arguing with other leftists is a really poor use of energy. I'm not up to it and I'm going to spend what energy I have advocating for the best ideas that will help the most people.

You (wsj article author, not op) supposedly cherish “freedom of expression” and “stories” - which party is doing book bans?? And Which party is against censorship?? Hmmm??? And by voting for Trump you proved everyone else right! You are too stupid and racist and sexist, especially if you think Trump winning will stop these “divisive and destructive” arguments. Leftists and liberals still exist and we still know we are smarter than you and that trump is bad. Or were you hoping we’d all be put in jail? Which trump said he would do-jail all his “enemies” but oh no Democrats enacted constitutional overreach to address actual treason on Jan 6th. You are also stupid for not knowing what 3rd graders are actually taught, and that it’s not Critical Race Theory. I will also bet $1000 you don’t know what CRT actually is or who Kimberlé Crenshaw is. You fear the sway of Big Pharma and you voted for trump?? When Biden has been capping insulin at $30?? And got us vaccines and covid tests for free?? Like none of what you wrote makes sense!!
Thank you, Wall Street Journal, for giving us an editorial that tells us "I voted for Trump because Democrats were mean and rude and 8 year olds are learning CRT and Trump will bring us freedom." Fuck's sake. You bought into Republican propaganda.
#Obligatory yes I know Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party are too beholden to the rich and too centrist/right wing#I would like to vote for more leftist candidates who are actively opposing genocide like Bernie Sanders#but Dems being bad doesn’t mean trump is great or even good or okay#I voted for Harris#but I also voted for Bernie in the 2020 primary#and I’ll keep voting super left in primaries#and as left as is feasible in general elections#but trump voters should be ashamed of themselves#For voting for someone who hates most people and most kinds of people and who doesn’t care about helping anyone#he’s not gonna help most of the ppl who voted for him#I thought they learned that the first time#but it’s been 4 years and I guess they forgot#Or they are just so racist and sexist it doesn’t matter#too scared to vote for a woman of color who would have moderately improved the lives of every day Americans#without solving most of America’s systemic issues which will take decades if not centuries to solve#Because breaking stuff is a lot easier than fixing it#but because she was black and Indian and a woman#and because the ppl who would benefit (slightly) might be black or women or queer or undocumented#Well You couldn’t have that#so frustrating#a rising tide lifts all boats#and it might have been an inch or a foot but the tide would have helped everyone#but some ppl care more about punishing others - punishing undocumented migrants for example#that if the perception is they might not get treated like completely disposable garbage then you can’t vote for Harris#even though Biden and Obama have been way too tough on immigration#Obama even deported the most ppl of any President#but because the Dems aren’t openly xenophobic and racist and don’t laugh about how badly they will treat the ppl they deport#you can’t vote for them?#because it’s easier to blame America’s problems on immigrants (who are the cause of exactly zero of America’s problems)#than to face up to the many multi-faceted causes of America’s ills? Or to acknowledge that racism & sexism might have something to do w/ it

Senior Advisor to President Donald Trump, Stephen Miller says “Everything in the world is gonna change on January 20th”
EVERYTHING ends for illegal migrants 👇
- There will be no benefits
- No entry
- No asylum
- They’ll be arrested and prosecuted

Something I'd consider to be a big step in any communist's theoretical and practical development is the true adoption of class politics, as the main vehicle of your discourse. There is no shame in not having done this, and I'd wager almost any communist had a period of time between consciously adopting marxist politics and this "true adoption" I'm referring to. Some never take this step as well.
Especially if you were already into politics, rejecting the political discourse of bourgeois democracy and substituting it for class politics is something that takes conscious effort. Take immigration as an example, this is a relevant subject of debate in the EU. The two main positions in normal (read: bourgeois) debate is to either make legal immigration harder and murder more migrants, or to relax controls and allow easier legal integration into whichever country they're in. Your intuition as a newer communist is probably to side with the second position, and that's understandable. But a consistently class conscious position is to first understand that those two broad sets of policies (hardening or relaxing the borders) both serve different factions of the same capitalist class at the same time:
Immigration, particularly from global south countries sacked by Europe, serves to increase the reserve army of labor that exerts a downwards pressure on wages, especially from these immigrants whose precarious situations force them to take the harshest jobs for miserable pay. So these two alternating policies of opening or closing up the border (but never closing it) serve to control the size of this reserve army when it's convenient, and once they're in Europe, to utilize this mass of low-wage workers. This is what is at the crux of the bourgeois debate over immigration in Europe, it's just coated in different paints, one nationalistic and one more "humanitarian". And this is what informs the actually marxist position in this particular debate; the rejection of any and all instrumentilzation of our fellow workers for the benefit of the capitalist class. There is no immigration policy within a capitalist framework that does not utilize the cheap labor brought by immigration.
If our goal as communists is to guide the working class to power, then we should be consequent in this and not lose ourselves in debates about which policy the managers of capitalism should adopt, it's to educate workers in our actual positions and utilize these debates as a jumping off point. This is what differentiates communists and opportunists who use workerist rethoric

Tending a garden is about as hands-on as climate solutions get. On a basic level, putting plants in the ground helps sequester carbon. Vegetation can reduce stress and tension for the humans around it, and it provides habitat and sustenance for pollinators and other wildlife. Gardens can provide spaces for education, and, of course, sources of food. But the act of designing and planting a green space serves another, more metaphorical purpose: It gives the gardener agency over a piece of the world and what they want it to look like — and a role in conveying of all those aforementioned benefits.
That’s the premise behind Wild Visions, a challenge launched in the DMV area (that’s District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia, for the uninitiated) in January. The project invited university students to design gardens with all sorts of visions and themes, then bring them to fruition this spring with native seedlings from Garden for Wildlife — an offshoot of the National Wildlife Federation.
For every plant the company sells, it donates one to a community project, said campus engagement lead Rosalie Bull. This spring, around 2,000 went to Wild Visions.
“We’ll be creating in total nearly 6,000 square feet of new wildlife habitat in the DMV,” Bull said. “And that’s just this year. We hope to do it year after year.”
In Bull’s view, this project has a distinctly solarpunk framing — celebrating a literary genre and art movement that conjures visions of a sustainable future, where nature is as central as technology. Although part of the goal was to get more native flowers in the ground, the challenge also hoped to “activate the solarpunk imagination,” and let students offer their perspectives on what the gardens could accomplish.
For instance, a group called Latinos en Acción from American University wanted to focus on monarch butterfly habitat, as a symbol of the migrant justice movement. Others, like the Community Learning Garden at the University of Maryland, were interested in exploring culinary uses of the plants they received, which included sunflowers, black-eyed Susans, milkweed, goldenrod, and aster.

The Joe Biden Admin Is Putting Illegal Migrants & Ukraine Refugees On Social Security. Funds Are Low & Biden Has NO PLANS To Save The Program For Americans
“In the $4.5 trillion of taxes the president has proposed —not a dime, is going to shore up Social Security.”
A 24% decrease in social security check payments is projected in just 9 years
How could anyone vote Democrat at this point?
“The president keeps saying he does not wish to have cuts in social. Is he aware that under current law, when the program goes broke in nine years, that there will be a 24 percent benefit cut for those who are current recipients? Is he aware of that?
Well, it's clear that Social Security... But is he... I apologize for interruption, but I have limited time. Is the president aware that when social goes broke in nine years, under current law, there's a 24 percent cut in benefits for people who are currently receiving.
If we don't do anything about it, I think that's about right.
Okay, let me ask.
But the president will want, wants to strengthen social security and make sure that doesn't happen.
In the $4.5 trillion of taxes the president has proposed, are any of those taxes going to shore up social security? I actually know that answer. The answer is of the $4.5 trillion in taxes he has proposed not a dime, is going to shore up Social Security.
Does the president know personally anybody who is dependent upon Social Security, and if their benefits are cut by 24%, they will slide into poverty? It's hard for you to know, so I'll give you a pass on that.
I assure you that the president knows many people on Social Security.
Then why doesn't the president care?
He cares very deeply.
Then where is his plan?
He stands ready to work with Congress to address...
That's a lie, because when a bipartisan group of senators has repeatedly requested to meet with him about social, so that somebody who is a current beneficiary will not see her benefits cut by 24%, we have not heard anything on our request. And we've made multiple requests to meet with the president. Now you can't comment on that, I realize that, but that is a fact and if you've been told to say he stands ready to meet, I will tell you there's absolutely no evidence because we have not gotten our meeting.”

Not Flirting
This is NOT FLIRTING.
The very fact that the media say "flirting" is indicative of the fact that the cultural ideas we have around value, improvement, morality, ability and functionality are *rooted* in a a framework which is ableist and eugenic in nature.
Fundamentally, the idea that there are "good genes" and "bad genes" is saying there are "good" forms of embodymindedness and "bad" forms, and that we should remove or reduce the bad and increase the good.
This is biopolitics which is at the root of 19th, 20th and 21st century processes and horrors, and is not *just* racist, but is one of the major ORIGINS of racism as it manifests today, as well as a wellspring of sexism, homophobia, transphobia, antisemitism, colonialism and capitalism.
We are enmeshed in the world eugenics and its proponents thought up, and wrought. It is so prevalent beneath the surface of how we relate to the world in terms of growth, progress, science etc, that we are like fish swimming in it.
This IS NOT JUST TRUMP. This is the ongoing pandemic, the manfacture of debility in marginalised populations for the benefit of those at the levers of power. This is the dismissal of Appalachian lives and folks in rural areas as low-intelligence inbred hicks who "should have known"/"should have moved" in the face of hurricanes. This the way standardised testing structures education on pass fail and grade curves. On and on, with countless more manifestations and iterations.
**We live in a eugenicised society.**
One that frames who should be improved, and how, on the basis of trajectories which begin by evalulating a being on how much it conforms to a certain set of criteria. We never ask where those criteria come from. We never consider that the liberal humanist agenda might also create folks who *don't fit*, in order to mark those who do.
We should. We should ask ourselves where "the human" even comes from.
[ID :A screenshot from The Guardian's liveblog coverage of the US Election, which reads: "Flirting with eugenics, Trump says: ‘We got a lot of bad genes in our country right now’ In an interview earlier today with conservative broadcaster Hugh Hewitt, Donald Trump used terminology associated with eugenics to attack migrants. The remark came as the former president discussed the alleged harm done by new arrivals to the United States, saying many were “murderers”. “Now, a murderer, it’s in their genes,” Trump continued. “And we got a lot of bad genes in our country right now.” It was language similar to the beliefs of eugenics, which emerged in the late 19th century and held that human ills could be combatted through selective breeding. The theory is today regarded as both inaccurate and racist."]

best will in the world why would the leopards want to be into reforming the electoral system that can only ever end up with leopards getting to eat at least an amount of face?
(a clue to this is that half the "leopards chewing on you" candidates have recently jumped ship from the supposedly electorally doomed "leopards eat your face" party because the "chewing" party platform is increasingly "leopards chewing your face quite hard and maybe they swallow some chunks, and we threw out everyone who suggested maybe we should dial it back to leopards licking your face")
frankly nobody is less likely to be into electoral reform than new labour, unless it's the tories, but given that they're the only 2 parties which have stood to benefit from FPTP in the last 140 years or something, you know, why WOULD they?
quick unscientific poll for my own interest
#red said#i fucking hate uk politics i swear to god. it is GOOD AND HEALTHY for people to demand options other than Blue Tory and Red Tory#and frankly when has 'hold your nose and vote for the least bad one' worked?#and also where was this energy in 2016 or 2019 when a leftwing option was on the menu?#nowhere bc all the 'hold your nose and get the Tories out' centrists suddenly got REAL INVESTED in holding their nose to keep Corbyn out#anyway you either believe polling in which case Labour could lose half their predicted seats and still walk it#or you don't in which case tactical voting is pointless and you should vote with your fucking conscience#'oh get the Tories out' yes i agree and if a single labour member could make a sell as to where their policy is meaningfully better#without literally getting deselected or moved or having the whip removed. then boy howdy I'd be down with replacing them with Labour!#did you see they took yer man out of Clacton who was polling strong against Nigel Farage? for what?#removed the whip from multiple people for arguing that Tory policy on teams people or migrants is bad#once again prioritised undercutting Corbyn over assuring a win in Islington#and oh yeah their manifesto commitments are to crack down on protest stop the small boats 'protect women's spaces' and#send the workshy benefits leeches back to work#and privatise the nhs. and continue fiscal austerity.#i cannot express how disinterested i am in packing the House to the gills with one party who can't even bring themselves to oppose#current government legislation WHILE LITERALLY ACTING AS THE OPPOSITION.#half the reason I've been voting SNP is so SOMEBODY in Parliament will oppose the Tories bc it sure as fuck hasn't been Labour#so yeah man if Labour want us to vote for them as anything less than an only-option they should try OFFERING LITERALLY A SINGLE REASON#i don't give a shit how the leopards BRAND THEMSELVES i give a shit whether anyone in the room is saying hey man maybe eat not face instead
