"we don't want to give anybody sleepless nights"
my OFFICIAL ghostwatch trailer as a part of my campaign to get people to watch this movie that I like a whole lot
warning for spoilers!!! I tried my best to leave out the best parts of the movie so as to not give too much away but I couldn't resist adding in some of the really good parts
song is the end (instrumental) by the doors
movie is ghostwatch (1992), written by stephen volk and directed by lesley manning
ghostwatch is a mockumentary horror film aired by BBC1 on halloween night 1992. it was passed off as a live broadcast although it was filmed and produced much earlier
there were an estimated 1,000,000 calls to the BBC switchboard the night of the broadcast with viewers expressing outrage, praise, and genuine belief in what they were seeing
the show became incredibly controversial in the time following the original broadcast and the film's producers eventually issued an official apology for any emotional distress caused by the program
----
s/o capcut for letting me auto generate captions for free and thescriptsavant.com because I had no idea what pipes was saying in the bit with the tape recorder lol

Weird Brain Hacks That Help Me Write
I'm a consistently inconsistent writer/aspiring novelist, member of the burnt-out-gifted-kid-to-adult-ADHD-diagnosis-pipeline, recently unemployed overachiever, and person who's sick of hearing the conventional neurotypical advice to dealing with writer's block (i.e. "write every single day," or "there's no such thing as writer's block- if you're struggling to write, just write" Like F*CK THAT. Thank you, Brenda, why don't you go and tell someone with diabetes to just start producing more insulin?)
I've yet to get to a point in my life where I'm able to consistently write at the pace I want to, but I've come a long way from where I was a few years ago. In the past five years I've written two drafts of a 130,000 word fantasy novel (currently working on the third) and I'm about 50,000 words in on the sequel. I've hit a bit of a snag recently, but now that I've suddenly got a lot of time on my hands, I'm hoping to revamp things and return to the basics that have gotten me to this point and I thought I might share.
1) My first draft stays between me and God
I find that I and a lot of other writers unfortunately have gotten it into our heads that first drafts are supposed to resemble the finished product and that revisions are only for fixing minor mistakes. Therefore, if our first draft sucks that must mean we suck as writers and having to rewrite things from scratch means that means our first draft is a failure.
I'm here to say that is one of the most detrimental mentalities you can have as a writer.
Ever try drawing a circle? You know how when you try to free-hand draw a perfect circle in one go, it never turns out right? Whereas if you scribble, say, ten circles on top of one another really quickly and then erase the messy lines until it looks like you drew a circle with a singular line, it ends up looking pretty decent?
Yeah. That's what the drafting process is.
Your first draft is supposed to suck. I don't care who you are, but you're never going to write a perfect first draft, especially if you're inexperienced. The purpose of the first draft is to lay down a semi-workable foundation. A really loose, messy sketch if you will. Get it all down on paper, even if it turns out to be the most cliche, cringe-inducing writing you've ever done. You can work out those kinks in the later drafts. The hardest part of the first draft is the most crucial part: getting started. Don't stress yourself out and make it even harder than it already is.
If that means making a promise to yourself that no one other than you will ever read your first draft unless it's over your cold, dead body, so be it.
2) Tell perfectionism to screw off by writing with a pen
I used to exclusively write with pencil until I realized I was spending more time erasing instead of writing.
Writing with a pen keeps me from editing while I right. Like, sometimes I'll have to cross something out or make notes in the margins, but unlike erasing and rewriting, this leaves the page looking like a disaster zone and that's a good thing.
If my writing looks like a complete mess on paper, that helps me move past the perfectionist paralysis and just focus on getting words down on the page. Somehow seeing a page full of chicken scratch makes me less worried about making my writing all perfect and pretty- and that helps me get on with my main goal of fleshing out ideas and getting words on a page.
3) It's okay to leave things blank when you can't think of the right word
My writing, especially my first draft, is often filled with ___ and .... and (insert name here) and red text that reads like stage directions because I can't think of what is supposed to go there or the correct way to write it.
I found it helps to treat my writing like I do multiple choice tests. Can't think of the right answer? Just skip it. Circle it, come back to it later, but don't let one tricky question stall you to the point where you run out of brain power or run out of time to answer the other questions.
If I'm on a role, I'm not gonna waste it by trying to remember that exact word that I need or figure out the right transition into the next scene or paragraph. I'm just going to leave it blank, mark to myself that I'll need to fix the problem later, and move on.
Trust me. This helps me sooooo much with staying on a roll.
4) Write Out of Order
This may not be for everyone, but it works wonders for me.
Sure, the story your writing may need to progress chronologically, but does that mean you need to write it chronologically? No. It just needs to be written.
I generally don't do this as much for editing, but for writing, so long as you're making progress, it doesn't matter if it's in the right order. Can't think of how to structure Chapter 2, but you have a pretty good idea of how your story's going to end? Write the ending then. You'll have to go back and write Chapter 2 eventually, but if you're feeling more motivated to write a completely different part of the book, who's to say you can't do that?
When I'm working on a project, I start off with a single document that I title "Scrap for (Project Title)" and then just write whatever comes to mind, in whatever order. Once I've gotten enough to work with, then I start outlining my plot and predicting how many chapters I'm going to need. Then, I create separate google docs for each individual chapter and work on them in whatever order I feel like, often leaving several partially complete as I jump from one to the other. Then, as each one gets finished, I copy and paste the chapter into the full manuscript document. This means that the official "draft" could have Chapters 1 and 9, but completely be missing Chapters 2-8, and that's fine. It's not like anyone will ever know once I finish it.
Sorry for the absurdly long post. Hopes this helps someone. Maybe I'll share more tricks in the future.

Good morning!!! Sorry to bother but since you are the most knowledgeable person I know about Hellcheer can I ask you if you have ever read a fic where Chrissy survives Vecna and then joins the group to defeat him? Thanks in advance and have a great day!!!
Okay, first off, you're never a bother, ever.
Secondly, I am honored by your ask. Sorry for the delayed response, it's...it's been a weird emotional exhausting few days but we're back!
Where my brain immediately went to
Chrissy and Eddie’s Infinite Mixtape by @little-scribblers-heart
What may be (to my reading knowledge) the most epic rewrite of S4, really can't recommend LovelyThings enough.
(sooner or later it comes down to fate) i might as well be the one by @majicmarker
Another great one and one of the best stream of conscious Eddie writers I've ever come across. Their fics always make me laugh.
someone reaching back for me by @enoughtotemptme
Okay, this one is gonna make you sad, but eventually very happy too! It was the first groundhog style fix its fics I read for season 4 and introduced me to the writer's work who I also can't rec enough.
EDIT
OMFG, I CAN'T BELIEVE I DIDN'T INCLUDE @hangon-silvergirl!! Thank you for pointing out my mistake, @majicmarker <33
Bonus Tracks by @hangon-silvergirl
Everything by her is amazing and this is no exception. I love it when folks use things we learn from con's in fic (like Chrissy's would be Vecna song), superb. A WIP, but off to a killer start.
Now below these are ones that have been on my Marked for Later list because I'm just in need of pure uncut fluff these days but come highly recommended.
the pleasure, the privilege, is mine. by melodicvinyl
I just love the starting premise of this one, I can see it being a thing Eddie does to make her smile or it's actually his mundane superpower that finally comes in handy. Also love their other fics too.
Linger by CircusBones
Hawkin's High 10 Year Reunion! Class of 86! Chrissy Cunningham has built a life in California, far from the demons of her youth, from her mother to Vecna. There's people who were always good to her, though. Healing might have taken her away from them, and coming back has its own challenges. This story moves between the events of 1986, and Chrissy experiencing Hawkins ten years later.
I've read their shieldshock fics and love them so I'm sure I'll love this too.
like hands that tick on a clock by theredhoodie
What if Chrissy Cunningham wasn't Vecna's first victim, but she survived instead? How would that have changed things for everyone? A ST4 shippy rewrite.
aesthetic chills by sloelimbs
"aesthetic chills" is the literal translation of frisson, which is the feeling you get when listening to a really good piece of music.
put your lips close to mine, as long as they don't touch by Percyjacksonfan3
Here's the thing about Chrissy Cunningham: she actually is the straight laced dependable good girl that everyone thinks she is. She's also, until she starts having these weird visions that make her feel like she's going out of her mind, insanely bored. Or, alternatively, the fix-it AU where Chrissy doesn't die and she and Eddie try and figure out what the hell is going on with her. And with them. Also, the usual gang is there. Eventually. Because these two need some serious help fighting demons and figuring out that they are not just friends.
If I missed an author's tumblr name please forgive me, I'm preeeetty brain dead. If I missed any fellow Hellcheerios, please drop them in the comments as I'm sure this isn't an exhaustive list. But hopefully enough to get you started babes!!

☽ ──── ༺𖤐༻ ──── ☾
It’s been 4 hours since they left and I’m not going to lie as time passes by the more scared and anxious I get. I hope everything goes well. While I sweep the kitchen I hear the door open and a lot of rustling. I set the broom down and head over to the entrance only to see Mingi with a female over his shoulder and she looked to be passed out. Slowly a pit in my stomach grows as I watch him carry her into the chapel like she weighed nothing . Seonghwa sees the look on my face and gently strokes my cheek “You don’t have to do this you know?” I shake my head and I say “No, I’ve got this.” and I walk over to the chapel and see her lying on the floor. She was beautiful, she also looked like she’s a very nice person. I shift my attention over to the guys, I noticed they were very serious, something all too familiar. It was just like when I first arrived here. The 8 vampires stand in front of the woman’s body patiently until a few minutes later that seemingly felt like hours until she slowly starts regaining consciousness. She slowly sits up and looks up at them and screams, a blood curdling scream that jolted me back into reality. The woman says “Where am I?!” Hongjoong walks over to her and kneels in front of her and says “Don’t worry about it, just be a good girl okay?” she begins to uncontrollably cry and panic causing Hongjoong to smirk and extend his hand in my direction “Miss y/n, could you be a dear and please help me calm her down?” I feel so pressured to do everything correctly because while I walk over to that woman I feel everyone’s eyes on me, it was honestly kind of embarrassing. I gently grab her shoulder and kneel down next to her. “Hey, it’ll be okay. Take deep breaths.” I’m so sorry… She nods while teary eyed trying to calm herself down until eventually she quiets down. Hongjoong smirks “Thank you Miss y/n. Now, do you mind cleaning her up? She’s quite dirty from transit…” Hongjoong glances at Mingi only to have him shrug in response. While I help the woman up Hongjoong continues “Yeosang, be a dear and help out Miss y/n we don’t want our guest to try and pull a fast one on us.” He turns to look at the woman with an evil grin plastered on his face. The woman seemingly hides behind me clutching onto my arm tightly.
Yeosang then walks behind me and the woman. While heading up the stairs the woman whispers “Do you know where we are?” I glance over at her and shake my head “Honestly I don’t know. I haven’t been here very long either." The girl glances at Yeosang who shoots her a scary gaze causing her to look forward and quiet down.
Once we arrive to the bathroom I look over to Yeosang “Master, do you mind waiting outside? If there’s any trouble I’ll call you.” he nods understandably but still keeps a stone face and I close the door behind me, the girl then sits down next to the bathtub then I begin to run a bath for her “So, what’s your name?” She looks over at me and says “Sumi” Wow, she's so pretty and she has a pretty name.. “That’s a petty name, I'm y/n.” I touch the water then I look over at Sumi “Your bath is ready” she shyly looks away then I turn away covering my eyes “Don’t worry I won’t look, I do have to stay in here though.” I hear rustling then a few moments later I hear a small splash. I sit next to the bathtub while Sumi begins to wash her long black hair then she quietly asks “How long have you been here? Aren’t you scared of them?” I grab the towel next to the bathtub “Well I’ve been here for about 2 weeks, and honestly I am a bit scared except I just do everything they tell me to do. I try my best to make them happy and in return they’ll be nice.” she looks at me with a shocked expression then says “Have you tried to escape?” I shake my head and I look down at the cat crest on the apron on my dress “Hm, no but I did plead with them to let me leave but it’s no use they won’t let me and in all honesty I just don’t want to anger them.” Sumi reaches over, grabs my hand and says in a very quiet voice “Let’s escape together, they already trust you enough so maybe we can figure out a way to escape." I shake my head “I’m so sorry Sumi but I can’t leave even if I wanted to.” Her eyes slightly widen then she looks at me in disbelief “What do you mean? Didn’t you say you’re scared of them? Now is your chance to escape… We can do this together.” I lean over and I quietly say “ I’m sorry Sumi but I really don’t want to be on their bad side you really don’t know what they’re capable of doing so i’m going to do what they say and maybe hopefully they let me go one day.” I get up and open the towel in my hands “Alright let's get you ready for bed now” I hand the towel to Sumi and while she waits to dry off she brushes her hair and eventually she changes into a night gown I've randomly picked for her. When we step outside, we see Yeosang patiently waiting for us. Once we escort her to the room with the sigil on the door and the floor. She gets into bed and I bring her a tea so she could relax and fall asleep faster. Before taking a sip from her tea Sumi looks over at me and says "Is this poisoned?" I shake my head "Oh no, it's not I promise. I just thought I'd bring you something to help calm your nerves." She looks down at her tea for a bit she then she looks back at me and says "Please don’t leave me here all alone, those guys really scare me.” I sit on the chair next to the bed “Don’t worry I’ll stay here until you fall asleep I won’t go anywhere I promise.”
She sets the teacup on the night stand and shifts her gaze to me “Why are you so stuck on being here? What do you even get from it?” I look down and shrug “I don’t know. At first I hated it here but if I’m being honest I still kind of like it.” Sumi scrunches her nose looking at me like I just said the dumbest thing ever “Why?” I stare at the sigil below the bed and over at the black cat stitching on my apron “I’ve made friends. Unconventional ones but I made them, which makes me feel less lonely than I did when I was living with my family.” Sumi sighs and leans back resting her head on the white headboard behind her with her arms crossed across her chest. “Since when do friends kidnap you and don’t let you go home though..” She’s right.. It doesn’t sound right. The least they should do as friends is let me briefly see my family. After a few seconds of me not saying anything Sumi reaches for my hand and tightly squeezes it “Think about it, we’ll escape together. They can’t do anything to you because you’re their friend. They wouldn’t think of hurting you right?” Mingi didn’t hesitate almost killing me though, what if some of them do feel that same way he does towards me but they’re just really great actors. What if they’re waiting for the right time to kill me? “I mean, I guess you are right. If they cared they’d trust me enough to let me go” A smile paints Sumi’s lips and she pulls my hands towards her causing me to sit at the edge of the bed and her inching close to me. “So are you going to do it?” I look at the ground and sit there silently fo a few seconds until I finally speak “Go to sleep, they sleep in the afternoon then we’ll talk about it.” Sumi smiles and gives me a hug “I promise we’ll escape and we will both go back home.” A huge knot grows in my throat and my eyes begin to sting. I hum in response and blink back my tears. They told me not to get close, but here I am…
Eventually when she falls asleep and I exit the room then Yeosang locks the door behind me “You can go to Seonghwa’s room now Miss y/n the sacrifice will begin at 3:33 which is in about 30 minutes so I can give you a sleeping potion I made the other day in the lab so you sleep right through it.” I hesitantly nod “S-Sure where is it?” he then pulls out a vial from his pocket with light purple liquid in it and hands it over to me “First, get ready for bed then take this it’ll knock you out in about 1 minute while it makes its way through your bloodstream” I nod then I walk into Seonghwa’s room. I look down at the vial of purple liquid in my hand. Should I take it? I should, but I don’t think I can but if I don’t I know i’ll regret it. I change into my night gown then I get ready for bed eventually I lay in bed then I look at the vial. “I need to know what happens to Sumi.” The door suddenly opens and it’s Seonghwa, he walks over to me and smiles “Did you take the medicine Yeosang gave you to sleep my love?” Immediately out of instinct I nod he smiles and gently presses his lips on my forehead. “I’ll see you in the morning princess get some rest, I love you.” My cheeks flush and I nod “I love you too.” he keeps his warm smile then exits and closes the door behind him. I put out the candles and I lay down in complete darkness. If it gets unbearable i’ll take the medicine. I lay there for a few minutes waiting for something to happen then I get startled by a scream and immediately I get up and I slowly open the door and I look over to the room where Sumi is in but I couldn’t see anything. Sumi then screams again but this time she says “y/n! Please help me! You said you’d never leave me!!” My stomach drops and a heavy knot forms in my throat that I gasp and I cover my mouth, my eyes slowly get blurred by the tears. I’m so sorry Sumi, you didn’t deserve this. This is all my fault I’m so sorry.. At this point I hear someone faintly speaking but I couldn’t hear exactly what they were saying. Sumi begins to violently cough and choke on presumably her own blood and I begin to silently cry trying not give myself away. Eventually it grows silent and I slowly close the door and I lay down in bed. While I look up at the ceiling I clutch onto the vial then I take the medicine. For the next minute I lay there crying until I was was too tired to cry.
The next morning I wake up and notice Seonghwa sitting next to me reading a book. He notices I’m awake and puts down his book. I look up at him then I bury my face in his chest, everything that happened last night comes pouring back in an instant. Sumi’s screams echoed in my mind. I try to stop my tears by shutting my eyes “Hey, princess you’re up what’s wrong are you okay?” I manage to get a hold of myself then I pull back slightly teary eyed he then gently strokes my cheek while he looks deeply into my eyes “What’s wrong my love?” I shake my head and I look down “It’s nothing. It’s just- I'm just a bit homesick and I miss my mom that’s all.” I sit up next to him “I’m so sorry, I wish I could let you see your family but I can’t. You’ll be in more danger if you go back now that you’ve talked and seen us.”
He rests his forehead on my shoulder for a second then looks back over at me “Besides you’re safer here than you are back home, I saw the crime rates there and it’s pretty dangerous.” I grab Seonghwa’s cold hands and I gently hold them “I’m already used to it though, I grew up with having to protect myself so I’ll be okay. Can you at least let me tell my mom I’m okay? She must be worried sick, and probably thinks I’m dead.” A hesitant expression grows on his face “I don’t know about that my love.” I’ll do this for Sumi, she’s right. I deserve to see my family at least once. I sit on his lap and wrap my arms around his neck while I nestle in his neck. “Please? You said you love me…” One of his hands slither to hold my waist and the other one moves to my thigh gently squeezing it, his breathing becoming a bit shallow. I gently kiss his neck while I run my hand down his chest “It can just be the two of us, and you can just tell my parents you’re going to be my husband. You know? To make it more official.” He slowly runs his hand through my figure and pulls me in for a kiss “Well…If that’s the case then it wouldn't hurt to go see them for a little bit, but we can’t stay there for long I don’t want Draven to see you with us..” I gasp and give him a doe eyed look then I pull him into a hug. “Thank you so much! I love you so much I promise this will be the only time I ever ask for anything!” He chuckles and pushes a strand of hair behind my ear “I love you too my love, get ready I’ll wait outside okay?” I nod and hurriedly climb off the bed. It’s scary how Seonghwa is acting like nothing happened last night. Like he didn’t just kill a whole human. Then again, their will to live was probably stronger than empathy, which is scary to think as a vampire being tied down to that monster. I hate to think that if I was put into that position I would shamelessly probably do the same thing.. it most definitely doesn't make it okay though no matter how kind they've been. It's scary to think that if they have to, they will get rid of me whether they're attached or not.
I walk over to the dresser and see the drawer stocked with clothes. After changing clothes When I head over downstairs and see Seonghwa waiting for me by the entrance I see him looking at me with a smile on his face. “You’re wearing the clothes I bought for you.” I smile and lace my hand with his “Of course why wouldn’t I? “ Seonghwa reaches over and grabs his long black trench coat jacket and puts it on. We leave the house and as soon as I step outside the chilly autumn breeze grazes through my skin and for the very first time I notice this is the first time I’ve walked through the front door since I got here. It turns out we’re in the middle of nowhere in like a forest so it makes sense as to why no one even knows about this house. Seonghwa opens the door to a really gorgeous looking black luxury car, presumably Seonghwa’s or one of the guys who knows but it looks really expensive. He looks over at me and covers my eyes “Close them, and don’t open them until I tell you okay?” I put my hands over my eyes “Wait why?” Seonghwa reaches over and gently pats my thigh “Just trust me.” Then I feel the car very rapidly increasing speed until for a split second I don’t feel like the car is moving at all then after a few seconds of feeling nothing the car goes back to driving over the road. “Okay, you can open your eyes now” He gently pats my thigh and I open my eyes, immediately I look behind us and notice it was just forest. I think I just went through a portal. Was that a portal? The more he drove down the road the more I began to recognize the roads and buildings. Until eventually I guide him to my house. We get out of the car and I run towards the door while Seonghwa calmly walks behind me. I run up the steps and knock on the door, a few seconds later my mom opens the door, gasps and I wave at her “Hey mom.” For a few seconds she looks at me like she's seen a ghost and she tightly pulls me into a hug. “y/n! Sweetheart, where have you been? We’ve been looking for you, we were beginning to assume the worst happened to you...” I shake my head "I'm fine mom, I just wanted to come and let you guys know I'm fine and relieve you from that worry." My mom looks behind her as If she was looking for someone and says "Hold that thought-"
She lets both of us in and has us sit in the living room and says “I’ll go call your dad and your brothers, they’re outside in the backyard I just want us to comfortably talk..” While she leaves for a bit to get the rest of my family Seonghwa turns to me and asks “So are you the youngest in your family?” I shake my head “Actually, I’m the oldest.l.” He nods “Ah, I see. Must be hard being the eldest.” I chuckle “Ha, yeah it kind of is. Parents have very high expectations of me which is why my relationship with my father and mother is somewhat strained.” Suddenly I hear both my little brothers run into the living room and I get up and hug them tightly “Hey Kiddos!” then I turn and see my dad entering the room looking at both and Seonghwa and I in shock. I walk over to my dad and wave “Hey dad, um I’m not dead.” My dad gives me a cold stare and says “Where did you run off to? If you wanted to move out you could have told us. You had your mom so worried sick she couldn’t even sleep.” I sigh then I look down at the floor and Seonghwa walks over to my dad and confidently extends his hand and says “Hello I’m Seonghwa, y/n’s husband.” My dad’s jaw drops while he shakes his hand and says “Are you serious? You never talked about dating anyone again. You rarely even left the house when you weren’t at work” I look over at Seonghwa and smile then I say “I met Seonghwa at the store I worked at dad.” My mom then grabs my hands and says “But you haven’t known him very long sweetheart how could you marry him a few months after meeting him?” I shake my head “Actually, I’ve known him for about 3 years, he was a regular at the store.” My mom tilts her head in confusion “You just got out of a relationship a year and a half ago sweetie..” Seonghwa gives my mom a warm smile “We started out as friends but after her breakup she was in bad shape and I kind of wanted to show her that not all men are bad. So, after we began dating we fell in love very deeply, and if I’m being honest I liked her way before we even started dating but out of respect for her relationship I decided not to make a move until she became single.” I nod and smile then my mom says “That’s very sweet of you, not many young men as respectful as you exist anymore sadly.” My mom’s eyes slightly narrow as she walks over to Seonghwa and examines his face a little closer “Sorry for changing the subject, I’ve just been meaning to ask this but how come there’s a wound on your cheek?” Seonghwa blinks, then gently touches the wound on his cheek and responds with a chuckle “Oh uh, her ex and I got into a fight last night..” I gulp and nervously look over at my parents “Ah yeah, it was bad. Kind of gave me secondhand embarrassment seeing him get what he deserved.” But it never happened… "Do you need some ointment for that sweetheart?" My mom gently tilts his head examining the wound "Oh no, I'm okay Mrs. y/ln I’m fine, y/n was kind enough to clean it for me this morning." Seonghwa gives my mom a sheepish smile causing my mom to smile back at him.” Well, you’re very handsome and it’d be a shame if it scars.”
My mom glances over at me gently grabbing my hand “So how come you disappeared without a word y/n? Did something happen?” This is so weird? She’s actually asking about my feelings, did me disappearing scare her that much? Why is she holding my hand? This is so unlike her. I look over at Seonghwa then back at my mom “Well, I wasn’t doing too well mentally so Seonghwa decided to take me on a trip and escape for a bit to gather my thoughts. It was on a whim actually, very last minute. He told me as soon as I closed the store that night.”
My mom reaches over and holds both my hands “Please Sweetie don’t ever leave like that you really worried me. Please, at least next time let us know right away so we know you’re okay.” come visit us at least once a week.” I give my mom a soft smile and I look over at Seonghwa who had a guilty expression on his face. I then look back at my mom’s sad expression, her hair in a very messy bun with dark circles under her eyes. She really did lose sleep over me and I felt terrible for that. Judging from the way Seonghwa looked though I know he felt bad. I gently fix my mom’s messy hair and I say “Actually that’s why I came here mom, I don’t know when I’ll be able to come and visit you guys since we’re planning on moving to Seonghwa’s home town. I just wanted to clear up any misunderstandings I probably created by disappearing on such short notice.” My mom looks down and sighs “You know, you being gone really made me think about how we weren’t being very good parents. ” My father silently stares at me while my mom avoids looking at me “Your father and I have always been hard on you, expecting so much from you constantly, and for that we’re so sorry.. We’re so sorry we caused you to become distant and keep so much from us..” I press my lips into a straight line and reach towards my mom “Mom, as long as you guys realize your mistakes it’s enough for me. I understand you wanted to raise me right, and of course I know I didn’t turn out the way you guys wanted me to but I hope you guys are still proud of me.” My mom pulls me into a hug “Sweetheart, I am proud of you. Your father and I are both proud of you, we just have some demons we haven’t yet been able to face even at our age.” Woah, why is she being so honest? Now I truly do think my “marriage” is what made her realize something.” I understand mom, which I why I feel like it’s best I leave so you can both process that and heal without me being your target. Time and distance cures things sometimes.” I pause feeling a knot in my throat for a few seconds then I continue “So I forgive you, for everything. Now it’s up to the both of you if you want to take the change or not, if not for me do it for my siblings. They need the safe and warm embrace of their parents.” My mom nods holding back tears, while gently cupping my face in her hands “We will try our hardest, not just for your siblings but for you as well. Even though we’re years too late.” My eyes begin to sting from the tears causing me to blink until the tears roll down my cheeks “It’s never too late mom, I just don’t want dad and you to die with regrets just how I don’t want to die resenting my parents. Regardless, I promise I’ll be in good hands.” My parents would freak out if they found out I don’t just live with one but 7 other guys, not to mention they’re all vampires who sacrifice humans to a scary Vampire demon named Draven.
After about an hour of talking to my parents and catching up I look at clock in the kitchen and realize the time. “I’m sorry mom It’s time for me to go.” She furrows her eyebrows “Why so early? You just got here?” I sigh “Well, it’s just that we leave tonight and I’ve got to get my bags ready.” Disappointed my mom hums and I feel my heart sink to my stomach. “Mom. Please take care, I’ll try calling you a few times a week okay?” My mom kisses my forehead she reaches over at the counter and hands me a box filled with sweets she made and says “Here’s some cookies and other sweet things I made sweetie eat them well okay? I’ll be waiting for your call. I’m sorry you have to go in such a rush.” I hug her tightly holding back tears again then I gently kiss her cheek then my dad looks over towards Seonghwa and finally speaks after a while “Please take care of my daughter and treat her well. Me and her might not see eye to eye most of the time but she’s still my daughter and it would wreck us if anything happened to her.” Seonghwa nods and shakes my dad’s hand “Of course sir. I’d protect her with my life, she’s safe with me. Always.” My mom calls both my little brothers to come say goodbye and they tightly hug me “I have to go now, take care of mom okay?” They both nod and walk over to hide behind my mom. I walk towards the door and take one last look at my family “Bye mom, dad, kiddos. I’ll come back when I can okay?” I wave goodbye and walk towards the car with a huge knot in my throat then my eyes begin tearing up and as soon as I sit inside the car I begin to silently cry. Seonghwa gets in the car after waving goodbye and notices I'm crying, there was instant change of expression and he leans over to hug me “Hey, no don’t cry. It’s okay, this isn’t a goodbye you’ll see them one day. When we figure out what to do with the whole Draven situation we’ll come and see them as often as you want. I’m so sorry this is all my fault.” He kisses the top of my head while he gently strokes my hair. while I hold Seonghwa’s hand “No, you can’t help who you fall in love with. Besides I actually really like living with you and the guys, I don’t feel alone anymore. The only reason I’m crying is because of everything that’s happened I really expected to die at one point and all of that led to me wanting to at least make it clear to my family I’m not dead. It didn't help my parents telling me all that stuff made me really emotional.” Sadness and remorse clouded his features “I’m glad you were able to solve things with your family, even if it was because they genuinely did think you were dead which I really am sorry about. I’m sorry about the way we met and how we just kidnapped you like that. I’ve been meaning to apologize but out of pure fear of you somehow hating me I just keep silent.” Seonghwa wipes away my tears then I gently caress his hand with my thumb and smile “It wasn’t the best way to meet the love of your life but as crazy as it sounds I’m glad it happened because for once in my life a tragedy led to happiness and you’re my happiness Seonghwa.” He rests his forehead on mine and says in a quiet tone “I love you so much, your love is so pure.” I lean In and gently kiss his hand “I love you too, I’m glad I met you.”
Seonghwa looks into my eyes lovingly for a few seconds then snaps out of it and smiles “How about we head back home, I’m sure everyone is wondering where we are.” I nod and wipe the remaining tears from under my eyes. During one of the stop lights while I was looking out the window I see a strange ultra pale man with long black hair his eyes looked black and empty like an endless void and he seemed to be staring at me with a very serious and cold expression, not to mention he has painful looking scar over his left eye and a very interesting red jeweled necklace. I slowly and awkwardly look away and I look at the road in front of me. It was probably some weird guy trying to scare people. That’s so creepy.
Eventually we make it home and as soon as I enter the house San runs in from another room and hugs me tightly “Miss y/n! Where did you go!? I was going to ask if you could make me a snack!” Wooyoung then runs into the room panting then says “San I said I’ll cook for you!! Oh, hi Seonghwa, hi Miss y/n I was wondering why I hadn’t seen either of you around.” Wooyoung walks over to us then I say “Oh yeah, we went to go visit my family because I didn’t want them thinking I was dead.” Nonchalantly Wooyoung nods and says “Oh yeah, we kidnapped you I almost forgot about that.” Seonghwa glares at Wooyoung then he nervously laughs and says “Yeah, we’re so sorry about that.” I shake my head “No worries, but enough of that we can talk about it later because guess what I brought you guys from my mom’s house!?” Both shrug while Seonghwa looks at us admiringly and San looks at the box says “What is it?” I open the pastel pink box with cookies and other sweets and smile “Some sweet things my mom made, I thought you guys would have loved to taste it since you guys liked my cookies and sweets so much. So I think you guys will love my mom’s a lot more because personally I think my mom’s are better.” San gasps “Oh! We should! Seonghwa I’m stealing Miss y/n for a little bit we’re going to have a snack!” he links his arm with mine then begins to walk away then Seonghwa says “Don’t worry about having to do anything today my love have fun. San, don’t eat them all in one sitting they’re supposed to last us a few days.” While we walk away San chuckles and says “Okay dad” I turn and smile “I’ll have fun no worries! I’ll bring you blood earl grey tea with a snack later okay?” he nods and smiles then Wooyoung looks over at Seonghwa then over at San and I and catches up to us “Wait I wanna have some too!!” We walk into the kitchen and it looked as if Wooyoung began to work on something. I walk over to the stove then I look at Wooyoung and I give him a smirk “Aww, so you were actually starting to cook for San.” He nods then looks over at San slightly irritated “Yeah, I was going to surprise him but as soon as he heard the door open I heard him running towards the door like a crazy person.” I look down at the sweets box and look back up at Wooyoung and smile “Do you wanna finish that then we can have this as a snack?” He nods and says “I was planning on cooking a dish my mom always cooked for me back when I was alive.”
I set down the box on the table and I sit down while Wooyoung washes his hands “Ohh wow that sounds nice we can’t wait to taste it right San?” San nods giving me a dimpled smile “I’m looking forward to it too since Wooyoung always told me his mom’s cooking was the best.” San sits on the chair across from me while Wooyoung cooks then I fold my hands across my lap then San says “How did it go visiting your mom? Did she freak out?” I raise an eyebrow and chuckle “Uh, yeah she freaked out she thought I was dead.” He presses his lips together then says “Well of course but what I meant is did she notice Seonghwa was a vampire?” I shake my head and shrug “I actually don’t know, she never said anything but I’m sure she probably thought his eye color was weird I noticed she kept looking at his eyes alot she also asked abut the scar on his cheek” Wooyoung chuckles “Well I mean you’re supposed to look at people in the eye when you talk to them Miss y/n. I’ve noticed you don’t really do that you usually look away or look behind us when you talk to people.” I put my head down on the table to hide my flushed face “Do I really make it that noticeable?” San reaches over to me and pats my head and says “You do, it’s kind of endearing though. It shows how shy you are although I’ll give you credit for occasionally making eye contact.” While stirring something on the stove Wooyoung says “ My personal favorite is when you don’t look at our faces at all.” I lift my head and scrunch my nose “Well, I mean can you blame me?! You guys are gorgeous, like seriously it’s kind of intimidating. It’s almost inhuman how beautiful you guys are.” I put both my elbows on the table and I put my chin on my hands and I gaze out the window while a smile slowly grows on my lips “Especially Seonghwa he’s the definition of perfect.” San’s mouth hangs open then covers his mouth then Wooyoung says “I mean I knew I was handsome but I didn’t know we all were.” I clear my throat and I smooth down my skirt then San says “You really think we’re beautiful? Don't we scare you?” I look up for a few seconds while I think then I say “I mean yes, but that doesn’t take away from your beauty. My mom once told me when I was a little kid that vampires lure in a lot of their victims with their beauty. So she definitely wasn’t wrong about vampires being so beautiful.” San smiles and holds both my hands “You’re pretty cute yourself Miss y/n, I understand now why Seonghwa is so in love with you and waited hundreds of years just to be with you.” Wooyoung grabs a small piece of carrot and throws it at San causing both of us to flinch “San stop it, you’re being weird again” San looks over at Wooyoung slightly irritated and says “I was just complimenting her I wasn’t being weird” Wooyoung then turns and looks at San “What do you think Seonghwa would say?” San shrugs then looks over to me and smiles “I’m sure he knows Miss y/n is a very cute human so I don’t think he’ll flip out over a compliment.” Wooyoung leaves the pot to boil and sits next to San and says “What else did you see when you went to your parents’ house.”
I tap my index finger to my chin then I say “Well, my dad was mad at me when he first saw me because I disappeared, I saw my little brothers, and also this is random but I saw a really pale guy with long black hair, black eyes and a huge scar on his left eye. He was staring at me with this really serious and scary facial expression but I think he was just trying to freak me out though.” San and Wooyoung’s eyes almost pop out of their skull then Wooyoung says in a very concerned tone “What was he wearing?” I shrug “Hm, he was wearing all black. I didn’t really pay much attention but he wasn’t badly dressed. I do remember his pitch black eyes, his scar and this really interesting blood red jeweled necklace because it looked a bit dated but those three are what stick out alot why? Do you guys know him?” San and Wooyoung both look at each other in complete horror then San says “We have to go tell Seonghwa and Hongjoong, this isn’t good. He knows.” My heart begins to race and my stomach drops then I get up from my seat not being able to sit still “Wh- What do you mean? Are you talking about Draven?” They both nod then they get up and Wooyoung turns the stove off and says “Stay with Miss y/n, I’ll go talk to them.” San nods and before I’m able to go back to my seat I begin to shake to the point where I could barely stand up San then helps me sit down he then kneels in front of me holding my hands and says in a low comforting voice “We promise we’re going to do anything in our power to protect you.” My lip trembles and my eyes well up with tears then San says “Don’t cry. You might not know this but you’re far more powerful than you lead on, your bloodline will protect you too if anything happens to us.” I cover my mouth trying to keep myself from crying loudly. I don’t want to lose Seonghwa, I love him so much. I also don’t want to lose my new friends either. I don’t want anyone to suffer because of me. Seonghwa and all the guys including Mingi walk into the kitchen with Seonghwa immediately walking over to me taking me in his arms “Please don’t cry, you’re breaking my heart. It’s okay, remember I told you and your parents I’d protect you with my life and that’s what I’m going to do.” I hug him back tightly and bury my face in his chest while the other guys are unable to do anything but silently watch.
“I don’t want to lose you, I can’t lose you. I also can’t lose my friends, and that includes Mingi and Yunho even if they hate me. I can’t lose anyone of you guys.” He gently strokes my hair I then notice from the corner of my eye Mingi’s gaze going from cold to a soft concerned gaze. Yunho then looks over at Mingi then back at me, Seonghwa then says in a low tone “Everything will be okay.” He’s lying, he's trying to convince himself everything will be okay but I have a feeling he’s lying.. I pull back and he gently wipes my tears away “I’m going to be a sorceress like Ursula. I don’t know anything about being a witch but i’m not going to sit here and do nothing and watch you guys get punished because of me.” Yeosang looks over at the guys “I’ll help her. I’ve studied witches before so I have a few books on them.” I look over and see Yeosang give me a shy smile I then say in a barely audible tone “Thank you so much.” Hongjoong then says in a skeptical tone “So you saw Draven today? Why didn’t you tell Seonghwa?” I shrug while stippling my fingers “I honestly didn’t know that’s what he looked like, I genuinely thought it was just some weirdo on the street trying to mess with me so I brushed it off.” Seonghwa looks over at Hongjoong and says “It’s not her fault. It was mine for not telling her anything, for trying to pretend like she didn’t need to know. I’m sorry.” San gently pats Seonghwa’s back and says “You wanted to protect her it’s okay. Besides, she’s not totally clueless. Wooyoung, Jongho and I have been telling her things about the supernatural world and the effect her blood will have on a vampire if they drink it” Jongho then chimes in.” We also kinda told her about our pact with Draven. Don’t get mad, we knew something like this was going to happen so that’s why we just went ahead and gave her a heads up.” Hongjoong stands there for a few seconds glaring at the boys then sighs “I would have been really upset but I mean you guys did the right thing so there’s not much I can do there, thank you for not leaving her in the dark about things.” He then turns to look at me and says “Miss y/n, I’d like to apologize on behalf of all of us for bringing you into this mess. I’m sure you regret meeting all of us.” I shake my head “Like I told Seonghwa earlier, I believe all of this was meant to happen. Somehow though I was able to find the beauty behind the madness, because of you guys I no longer feel alone and sad. The longer I’m here the more at home I feel, you guys are my destiny.” Yunho then says in a somber tone “Aren’t you scared knowing that because of us you’ll be a blood bank for Draven until you die?”
Evreyone looks at Yunho with a very surprised look on their faces then he continues “You know that’s the reality right Miss y/n? If he takes you that'll be the ugly reality you'll have to live. None of us wanted you to see it but you made it so hard because you kept asking too many questions.” I bite the inside of my lip “Well, of course I’m scared but fear isn’t going to stop me from stopping Draven, especially not when the love of my life and my friends are at stake. The reason I was asking so many questions is because of the way all of you made things sound, I had to find out for myself if there was a way I could help.” Yunho quietly nods in understanding and looks down “I honestly don’t know what we ever did to deserve you Miss y/n.” Did he just- Wooyoung looks over at Hongjoong and says “So, what do we do now? Do we summon Draven?” Hongjoong shakes his head while he massages the side of his temple “No, that’s the last thing we wanna do. We’ll have to wait until he appears himself, it’ll buy us alot of time.” I don’t know why but I keep hearing that phrase. Buying time. Seonghwa looks over at the stove and says “You didn’t get to eat did you?” I shake my head and he smiles “You should eat so that cute brain of yours works properly when you study.” He looks over at Yeosang and says “Do you mind staying with Miss y/n for a bit? Maybe you could start teaching her about her bloodline I’ll catch you up afterwards” He nods and evreyone walks out of the kitchen leaving me with Yeosang. He walks over to me and sits down in the chair in front of me while I grab some of the food Wooyoung prepared I serve Yeosang his favorite, just pure blood. I set it in front of him while I also set my plate down he then breaks the silence “It’s brave of you to try and help us.” I carefully pour tea into my cup “Of course, I’d do anything at this point for my friends but most importantly the love of my life.” Yeosang traces his index finger along the rim of the glass “That’s very sweet of you and a very pure intention that I hope works in your favor.” I shove a spoonful of food in my mouth he then pulls his finger away from the glass and clears his throat “So about your relative Sorceress Ursula, not only was she a well known pyromancer..” The corners of my eyes crinkle “What is that? I mean I’ve heard of them but I don;t really know what they do besides control fire..” A small smirk appears on his angelic features “Well, a pyromancer is a sorcerer who can manipulate and conjure up fire at will..” I take a sip of my tea then I say “Oh wow Ursula was pretty strong I’m sure it took her years.” Yeosang nods and says “Yeah she was but the more you study and practice I’m sure you’ll get the hang of it, at least the basics in a few months.” Can I really do this? My only hope is that my determination is enough to help me.I stare at the table then I lift up my gaze and I say “I have a bad feeling I won’t have a few months.” Yeosang gives me a concerned look “Don’t say that, if only Seonghwa got a good look at the guy maybe we would know for sure if it was actually him but let’s just hope it wasn’t him. We’re probably just freaking over nothing.”
After I finish eating Yeosang takes me to his work room located in the chapel. He opens the wooden door to reveal a dimly lit room with beakers and flasks each containing different substances and along the walls were bookshelves filled with many different kinds of books. It was like a small time capsule of a Victorian era laboratory. I quietly gasp and smile “Oh my gosh Yeosang, you have so many books!” he chuckles and gently massages his neck slightly embarrassed “I guess I do, thing is that’s not even half of them. A Lot of the books in the whole house are mine the other ones are either Seonghwa or Hongjoong’s” I walk over to a bookshelf and immediately spot Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes “Oh my gosh, can I borrow this? Is this the original cover?” He nods “It is, I remember when it first came out it’s nice to see you have a really great taste in books and of course, I have the whole series so whenever you want to borrow a book just let me know.” I smile and hug the book then Yeosang puts on his glasses and inspects carefully at the bookshelves eventually pulling out a few books “I don’t wanna overwhelm you with reading but I feel like these 4 books have very good information on not just beginner spells but also a little more intermediate. I also gave you one specific book for necromancy if you want to dip your toes into that. I will say necromancry is powerful, but I trust you will use it correctly.” He puts the 4 thick books in my arms and I glance at him with concern “What if I accidentally hurt you guys..” Yeosang gently puts his hand on my shoulder “It won’t happen, I know so. Trust yourself.” I nod then Yeosang pulls a chair and clears a small space on the table and smiles “You can sit here and read while I work on a few things. If you have a question you can just ask.” I sit down and open the first book and I begin to read, a few hours pass until I started dozing off. I should really go freshen up, I’m falling asleep and this isn’t the time to be falling asleep no matter how boring these books are. “Hey Yeosang, I’ll be right back I have to use the bathroom.” He nods and without looking up from his notes says “Okay, I’ll be here. Hurry back.”
Once I finish I wash my hands and walk outside. I walk past Mingi’s room and I hear the door open and immediately I come to a halt, I slowly turn around and see Mingi standing in the middle of the hallway. I gasp and I run towards the stairs until I feel him grab my arm and he says in a sincere but very soft tone “I’m not going to hurt you, I promise.” Stay on guard y/n. I gently pull my hand away from Mingi’s grip and I step back a bit “Do you need something Master Mingi?” I say in a serious tone he nods then says in a soft voice almost like he’s whispering “I’m not supposed to be anywhere near you without anyone else here with me but after hearing you call me a friend I honestly felt terrible for what I did to you. I let the prejudice between vampires and witches get in the way of seeing what a great caring person you are and for that I’m sorry.” I glance over at Mingi and his face was painted with remorse, I quietly sigh and cross my arms in front of my chest “Master Mingi, you tried to kill me. I can’t just trust you that easily after something like that that’s not how it works.” He runs his hands through his hair and nods “Yeah I know, I just wanted to put it out there that I don’t hate you anymore especially after seeing how much you genuinely mean to everyone else here especially Seonghwa.” I stare at the ground for a few seconds then he reaches over to touch my shoulder and out of fear I slightly jump up and he pulls his hand back “I’m so sorry.” I fidget with my fingers then I look up at him “I forgive you Master Mingi. I understand your urges are hard to control at times especially being around humans but I think It was also my fault too for making it even harder for you to control yourself by going into that room even after Seonghwa told me not to and making you upset so for that I’m so sorry.” Mingi looks in to the distance as if he was trying to process my apology then he says “It’s okay, it’s just the reason Seonghwa told you not to go in there is because there are artifacts in that room that if touched by a human the power surging through those items could kill you.” Wow, but what are they used? Sacrifices? “Hm, like what?”
Mingi looks around making sure no one is around and steps closer towards me “Well, one of them is the Shard of Hades, it is said to be made of the Hades’ own weapon the bident. It grants you huge amounts of power and is able to control masses. Which is why anytime a human touches it they die, due to the dark energy emanating from it. The only beings to ever be able to wield this weapon is immortals like gods, demons, or vampires which is why it’s dangerous. One huge drawback with immortals wielding it is that if their willpower is not strong enough the dark energy consumes them thus sucking the immortality out of them.” I raise my eyebrow “Why is this in your possession if it’s so dangerous?” Mingi shrugs “It belonged to our creator, we honestly don’t know how he got a hold of it. He left it behind after he died so we decided to keep it away from Draven because one thing for sure is that he would definitely take advantage of its powers.” I narrow my eyes slightly “Hm okay then how come the door wasn’t locked?” He presses his lips into a straight line “It was…Just maybe not for humans. The sigil on the door, in the room and under your bed are a protection sigil that way we’d know if anything unhuman has entered our home. Unfortunately we underestimated you, usually people don’t get ballsy enough to go down there after we tell them not to which is our mistake.” I’m guessing even vampires themselves majorly fuck up. “I mean you can’t expect humans to listen and submit to everything you say even if their lives are in danger..” He looks over his shoulder again and says “I mean to be fair we never expected it because this is the very first time a human has stayed here this long, they’re usually either dinner or a sacrifice.” I nervously laugh then Mingi gasps and shakes his head “Oh no, you’re not either of those don’t worry.” MIngi looks away then looks at the ground.
“y/n? Can I tell you something and please don’t take this the wrong way” I slightly raise my eyebrows and I say “What is it Master Mingi?” He awkwardly shoves his hands in the pockets of his pants and says in a slight embarrassed tone “So, Yunho told me your cooking is really good and I was wondering if maybe one day if you’re comfortable enough with me I could maybe try it?” I never thought I’d see the day where Master Mingi would confess him wanting to try my cooking, that’s so cute. “Oh you mean like have dinner with Masters San, Wooyoung, Jongho and me?” He nods while looking away clearly embarrassed “Of course, you can join us tomorrow if you’d like.” I nod and for a few seconds we stand there with Mingi suddenly getting really quiet then I hear Yeosang call out my name. Mingi looks at me with eyes pleading me not to tell anyone that we’ve talked. He puts his index finger in front of his lips and quickly goes back into his room. A few seconds later Yeosang walks up the stairs and sees me walking down the hallway and says “I’m sorry I got worried. You were gone for quite a while is everything okay?” I nod “Yeah, everything is okay my mind was just wandering and I kind of lost track of time.” I begin walking down the stairs with Yeosang walking next to me, eventually we get back to his science room and I go back to studying for a few more hours while Yeosang is busy observing a mixture in a beaker bubbling over a burner and tending to other stuff in his lab. Suddenly there’s a knock at the door and Yeosang automatically says “Come in.” too focused reading I feel someone kiss the top of my head and I look up and see it’s Seonghwa he then says “Sorry it took long my love me and Hongjoong just got caught up talking that we lost track of time. ”
He turns and looks at Yeosang and says “Hey, Hongjoong wants to see you he’s gonna go over what we talked about.” Yeosang turns off the burner and continues writing stuff down “Okay, i’ll be there in a few I just need to finish writing this observation.” I close the book I was reading then I say “I’ll just go back to our room and study” Seonghwa tilts his head slightly “How about so you’re not by all yourself you can stay with me in my work room?” I smile then I say “Anything to have an excuse to hang out with you.” He chuckles then helps me with my books then I before I walk out the door I tap Yeosang’s shoulder and I say “Thank you for the books, I’ll return them to you when I’m done” He smiles shyly and says “Of course anytime also please take your time and let me know if you need help with something” I nod then I walk over to Seonghwa and we head over to his work room. As soon as I enter I notice his work room has no windows, his work space is also very neat and tidy and like Yeosang his work space was a small time capsule, now I understand why they don’t really leave their workspaces that often. I’m sure it reminds them of when they were alive. I look over at Seonghwa and quietly giggle “Wow, you’re very neat and tidy and this looks like a workspace of a 17th century poet it’s really beautiful.” He nods and sets down my books onto his desk and says “I’m glad you like it, a lot of the things in here are things I used to own when I was a human.” He gently touches a small wooden music box and lifts up his gaze to look back at me and continues “Like this music box, it doesn’t work anymore but having it here with me is comforting.” I softly smile while I take a closer look at it without touching it. “I like it, I think it’s cute how much you treasure this. It's like a reminder that you were once human and your life prior to becoming a vampire.” he nods and sits down on his slightly worn leather chair and says “Yes, it is a much needed reminder and if I’m honest, when you turn into this you tend to forget your human qualities and tend to become very inhuman. Not just physically but in the way you think too, you lose yourself…”
I sit down in the chair in front of his desk and I carefully watch him “I lost myself and turned into a monster, that in the moment I couldn’t tell until I realized it was you we were going to sacrifice. The love of my life, my soul mate. You brought me back to my senses.” I smile and reach for his hand “I’m so proud of you for realizing your mistake, I'm sure those urges are very hard to handle and it’s very easy to lose yourself and give in to that animalistic behavior.” Somewhat ashamed he silently nods and I sit there gently rubbing my thumb on the top of his hand. “All those sacrifices don’t define you. Part of me believes you did it because you had to not because you wanted to.” He reaches over and strokes my cheek without breaking eye contact, he then lets out a small sigh and says “Of course I had no other choice, none of us did. Draven and his older brother saved all of us from the brink of death and working for him was a way to repay him for keeping us alive.” Everything is beginning to make sense as to why they’re tied down to this evil thing, not only do they have a contract with him but he’s also probably one of the reasons they’re not dead. Me being here is only going to make things worse for them, I can’t let them take the fall because of me. If they’re going to live forever they should be able to live a life they enjoy not live a life as henchmen for a demon. “So in a way he’s keeping all of you to work for him against your will.”
Seonghwa nods and sits back on his chair falling completely silent once again until I speak “Now I see the loyalty for this man isn’t because you admire him, it’s out of fear…” I look at one of the books from the corner of my eye and look back at Seonghwa’s sullen expression. The only way to truly make Seonghwa happy is to defeat this demon. I force a smile and say “I’ll work hard to protect you, I won’t let you suffer.” Seonghwa’s face lights up a little bit and gestures me to give him a hug. I get up and walk behind his desk and I lean over and hug him while I rest my head on his shoulder “Can I ask you ask a question?” He hums slightly nodding his head “What was your life as a human?” He chews the inside of his cheek completely avoiding eye contact with me so I hesitantly grab his hand again “We don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to.” He shakes his head “No, it’s just kind of a hard thing to look back on but it’s also something you need to know about me before you make your choice whether you want to stay with me or not.” I raise my eyebrow slightly surprised. He clears his throat and adjusts in his chair and gently pulls me over so that I sit on his desk facing him “So, when I was human it was my father, mother, my older sister and I. Years before I was born my great grandfather was a former warrior for our village who eventually turned into a thief, he was later killed for his actions after he robbed a noble after he almost killed him. Unfortunately, my family suffered the consequences for my grandfather’s actions and my whole family was ostracized from the village and we were treated like outcasts. That led to our family to become very poor and unable to afford food and other important necessities a lot of the time. So as I grew up I resented not only my grandfather but the people of our village for blaming us who had done nothing. One day when my older sister got severely ill I had no choice but to steal the medicine she needed to get better. The bad part is that from that day forward it was a habit that soon turned into something I enjoyed, I enjoyed seeing those people responsible for my family’s ostracization suffer even if it was at my expense. I slowly became a well known delinquent in the village, constantly getting into fights and trouble to the point where my mother eventually stopped reacting to my injuries from how frequent it was.“ I would have never guessed Seonghwa being this type of person prior to becoming a vampire. I genuinely thought he probably came from a rich family or was a royal himself. The way he carries himself is so proper and prince like, nothing like the delinquent he says he was. “Wow, that’s- I’m so sorry you went through this, you spent your human life on survival mode.” He meets my eyes and says “I’m sorry I was not the person you probably thought I was. In a way I deceived you, I was a horrible person and I did many things I wish I could take back. You have no idea how much I hate myself, I could have become better but I didn’t. I became what my village expected of me.” I pull his hands a little closer to me resting them on my lap “Look, I’m not going to sit here and say what you did was okay because it wasn’t. The good thing is that if you recognize your mistake, you’re headed in the right direction. You feeling remorse for your actions means that you do have a heart.” He furrows his eyebrows and I continue “No one is perfect whether they are living or undead” He sighs and defeatedly looks away from me “I know. I just want to be perfect for you.” I smile and pull him into my arms, his head resting on my chest “I know you do, but you don’t have to. I’m happy the way you are. Flaws and everything, just how you love me for me.” He pulls me a little closer to him while I gently stroke his sliver hair, we stay quiet for a few minutes enjoying being in each other’s arms until Seonghwa eventually pulls back “I almost forgot to tell you how I met our creator Sir Jongkook.” I give him a small smile “Go ahead, I'm listening.”
Seonghwa laces his fingers with mine and looks up at me from his seat “Well, Sir Jongkook and Draven were explorers at the time and they happened to stay at our village since our village was well known for its nightlife. It just so happened he was on his way to meet up with Draven at a tavern near the nightlife district and that’s when he runs into me getting the living daylights beat out of me after I foolishly picked a fight with the mayor’s son, I eventually became outnumbered. So, I don’t remember this part as I was passed out by then but Sir Jongkook fended them off, when he got closer to my body to check up on me and he realized how severe the beating was. He decided to feed me his blood because I was very close to dying and he felt horrible and didn’t want to just leave me there so he figured he’d take me in his care and give me a new life, one where I wasn’t so vulnerable and troublesome.” I see why they’re so fond of this man, he was very empathetic for a vampire. I can only imagine how happy he made them in order them to admire them so much they still keep a painting of him. “So I’m guessing your creator was one of those rare vampires who aren’t evil?” He nods “Yes, he was a very good man. I learned a lot from him, the rest are very fond of him too. He was there when we needed him the most.” I hold his face in my hands gently stroking around the wound on his cheek “I promise we’ll bring your creator back home, so he can finally rest in peace.” He pushes back a strand of hair behind my ear and rests his forehead on mine “ I love how empathetic you are towards our creator despite never meeting him, you would have loved him..” Great aunt Ursula please, if you can hear me please help me I’m begging you. I know I just found out about you not long ago but I need help awakening my powers. I need to redeem myself, for not only letting a person die but I need to find a way to get rid of Draven one way or another to end this.

Bamboo for a Bashful Captain - (Gepard x Reader) - Chapter 4
Summary: Serval stops into the shop, and you and Vaska go to the cafe Gepard showed you.
▸ Genre(s): Fluff, a sprinkling of angst
▸ Word Count: 15k in total, 3.1k for this Chapter
▸ Tags: Gepard x reader
▸ Warnings: Food mention, possible ooc, reader is shorter than Gepard and slightly fem coded, explicit pronouns aren’t used but Serval calls you a doll,
A/N: When I was revising this thing, it started raining really hard. I turned all the lights off and put on some lo-fi beats, and everything was perfect for a solid half hour.
MASTERLIST (also link to series)
A few days later, you were sitting on the edge of your mattress, waiting for Vaska to reply to a text you sent earlier that morning. Two tickets to the Golden Theater laid on your bedside table. Your phone buzzed and your hand darted to pick it up nervously.
From: Vaska
Vaska: Sorry, I can't come to the theater today!
Vaska: I haven’t had time to reread Tale of the Winterlands lately. I wanted to get to that today.
You: That’s all right! The tickets were discounted, so I just figured I would get them! Enjoy your reading!
Vaska: Wait, I am available for lunch though.
Vaska: It feels like forever since I’ve seen you!
You: Vaska, we work together.
Vaska: Yes. And?
You: …
You: Ok, I’ll be there.
You sighed, shaking your head. It had been a bad idea to buy an extra ticket, even if they WERE discounted for the final day of thIs play they were showing.
Well, worst case scenario, I have a fancy piece of paper I can hang up, but it’ll be a shame if this ticket gets wasted, you thought to yourself.
You chewed on your nails. Should I ask Serval? She might still be busy fixing her device. I’d better not…
What about Gepard? Maybe I could pay him back for giving me that tour, You flicked the screen to Gepard’s contact info, but you noticed the name in the slot read “Gerard” instead.
Oh shoot, better fix that,
You tapped the screen to edit his name, but hit the “call” button by mistake.
“Nono wait no—,” you gasped. Your thumb darted to the red icon in the corner, but you heard someone on the other line pick up ridiculously quickly.
“Hello? Gepard Landau speaking,” His voice was clear on the other end. Your nervous system threatened to wrangle its way out of your body that very second.
“Hi! Hello! Um—, I’m really sorry,” you stuttered. “I clicked the call button by mistake,”
“Oh..? That’s all right,” There was no marked change in tone when he spoke again. He was standing in the office of the new Supreme Guardian, right next to some stacks of papers. Pela peeked her head out from behind one of them.
“I was meaning to ask you about something though,” you blurted out, grabbing your beret from the side table. “I happen to have an extra ticket to the Golden Theater. There’s a showing today at two o’clock. I'm sorry it’s on short notice, but would you like to come with me?”
Gepard clasped his phone in a death grip.
“Ahem—, yes. That works for me. I don't have any urgent meetings today. Can I meet you on the steps outside the building?” He asked.
“Yep! Sounds good! I’ll see you— YEOW!!!” Your foot smacked your dresser as you spun towards the door. You yelped as your phone flew out of your hands and landed on the ground a solid meter away.
You groaned, rolling onto your back and sitting up, tears springing to your eyes.
“Shit—! Aeons, that hurt,” you winced.
“(Y/N)? (Y/N)?? Is everything all right?” You heard Gepard say loudly.
“Y-yeah. I tripped, s’all,” you grunted, placing a hand on the wall to keep yourself steady as you rose to your feet. “That definitely woke me up,”
“Take care of yourself,” he sighed, relieved.
“Yep, yep! I’ll see you— soon!” You choked out and hung up frantically. You placed both hands against the wall and hit your head against it repeatedly, groaning in shame.
———
You were in the middle of fixing the broken cash register when a familiar blonde-haired woman walked through the door.
“Serval!” Your head shot up as you gave her an excited wave. “Good to see you! What brings you to our shop today?”
She strolled over to the counter, where various pieces of equipment were sprawled out on the surface.
“Mornin’ (Y/N)! Molly and I were just RAVING about how the flowers Gepard got us have livened up the place!” Serval tossed her silky hair over her shoulder. “We were thinking of buying some more, since we could really use some more color in our lives,”
“I'm sure flowers are better than soot,” you giggled. “What did the Ministry of Education say about the experiment you were running?”
“Huh?” Serval looked bewildered.
“The research project? Y’know, the one that exploded??” A shadow of confusion flickered across your face.
“Oh! Yes, that one! They were gracious enough to give me an extension.” She shook her head up and down aggressively, her eyes rattling in her skull.
“I'm glad to hear it!” You wiped your forehead in relief, turning to some pots resting on a cabinet. “So… as for the flowers… I know you have the purple ones, so why not go with yellow? Purple can represent maturity and elegance, and yellow might round it out a bit.” You ran your fingers across the wood.
“Although, if you'd like to keep the place feeling more formal, you could go with these blue ones here,” you quipped. “They match Molly’s hair,”
You lifted up the planter that held said flowers, which were white on the inside, but faded into a dark teal on the edges.
Serval reached out to touch them tentatively, her eyes flicking towards something behind you.
“Hmm… what’s that one over there?” She said inquisitively.
“Oh--!” You spun around to see what she was pointing at. It was a wooden window box, filled to the brim with flowers of every hue.
“That’s one of our clearance boxes! We had a mix up with the seed packets during planting time, so they’re 30% off. Pretty interesting looking, right?” You lifted up the box, your chest heaving with effort.
“Definitely.” She peered over the walls of the box with an approving smile. “I'll take this one,”
“Really? Are you sure?”
“One hundo percent. This one speaks to me,” she mused.
“Fair enough. Whatever pleases the Rock Star of Belobog.” You shook your head and shrugged.
“Oh please, you flatter me,” she chuckled. You pushed the components of the cash register into a neat pile to make way for the flowers.
A ghost of a smile crossed your lips as you recalled how painstakingly long Gepard had spent picking up the flowers for his sister, and just how spontaneously she had chosen hers.
I can’t believe I know people equally as incredible, but as different as night and day, you contemplated.
“So, (Y/N),” Serval piped up, snapping you out of your thoughts. “You seem awfully chipper today. Did something good happen?”
Maybe something involving a certain bashful captain? She thought with a sly smile.
The air in the room seemed to turn pink as you swayed happily.
“Well, business has been skyrocketing lately with the weather getting warmer.” You rested your head in the palm of your hand thoughtfully. “More people feel like they have the means to take care of flowers! In fact, there’s been a ton of people coming in today,”
“Awwh, that's wonderful!” She said joyfully. “...anything else?”
Her smile grew wider. Serval could almost sense there was something you weren’t telling her. You gulped.
“Um— well, Gepard and I are heading to the theater today,” you said, a little quieter than the way you had talked previously. “I wanted to thank him for guiding me around the plaza a few days back,”
“What??? Why didn't you lead with that??” She slammed her hands on the desk, flabbergasted. You flinched and shook your head.
“It’s not THAT big of a deal,” you brushed it off sheepishly. “Just a little outing, nothing more to it,”
Serval’s bottom lip quivered with something between joy and rage.
“It is too!” she argued. “My brother lives and breathes his work. I can't believe someone is finally helping him loosen up a bit,” She sniffled dramatically. “I think I'm getting teary-eyed!”
You handed her the hefty window box with a smirk. “If you say so. Well then, it was great seeing you! Take good care of them,”
“Of course! Have fun on your date!!!” Serval sang, pushing the door open.
“Wait—,”
She gave you a salute with her free hand and slipped through the crack in the door before it shut.
Well, that was weird, to say the least,
———
“... and seventy-five grams high nutrient fertilizer,” Gepard murmured, reading off the slip of paper you had given him. He scooped some fine powder from the burlap sack, lowering himself to eye-level with the plant with the meticulousness of a scientist.
His blue eyes were fixed on the measuring spoon, tilting it onto the plant when his sister barged in. She was carrying a box of flowers, almost slamming the door into the wall with how much foece she put in. Gepard flinched so hard he flung the spoon into the air and it hit the ceiling with a “thud”.
“Geppie!!!” Serval shouted affectionately as the spoon landed on the hardwood. “A little birdie told me that you have a date at the theater today!!”
She sauntered in and set down the flower box on his desk. He looked on sadly as bits of soil fell onto his paperwork.
“A d-date? Where’d you get that from? And how did you even get in here!? I thought the Landau—,” he stumbled over his own words and she cut him off, too elated to notice how she was trampling his attempts to speak.
“I stopped by the flower shop this morning. You never mentioned anything of the sort!” She swayed excitedly.
“That’s because I found out today,” Gepard grumbled. “They merely had an extra ticket.” He bent down to gather some of the fertilizer into a pile on the floor.
Unless… they said it was a date..? He felt hope rising in his chest but he quickly squashed it. Hope? No, he wasn’t hoping. Of course not.
Serval smirked, stepping closer to him.
“Don't think I don't notice how utterly smitten you are.” She looked at her nails with a frivolous expression. “You know, how your face gets all rosy, your voice gets higher, and you listen extra hard when they speak?”
Gepard’s lips pulled back into a thin line. He glanced at the bamboo plant one last time before spinning around and dropping onto the bed, the mattress straining with the sudden weight.
The Captain rested his head in his hands, heaving a sigh as his blue eyes stared onto the floor.
“Is it… that obvious?” He said quietly.
Serval widened her eyes in surprise. Usually her brother stood his ground and brushed her off. She took a break from her teasing to plop down on the feather bed next to him.
“Maybe just to me,” she answered. She leaned back and stared at the ceiling.
“After all, I've known you long enough that I've never seen you care about anything this much. Your sister gets a little worried sometimes! You practically live and breathe your work.” Serval leaned slightly off the bed to get a closer look at his face, analyzing his features.
“And, as much as I love to tease you about it, I’m really happy my cute little brother has found someone he wants to offer his heart to,”
She rifled a hand through his hair teasingly, sending golden strands everywhere. Gepard’s hands shot up defensively with a grunt. They sat in silence for a bit, until she spoke up again.
“Also, I’ve noticed you've gotten pretty good at taking care of plants now too! Look at you, my little gardener!” Said Serval. “Well, I’ll get out of your hair now. I doubt the Landau Residence really wants me around anyways.” She shrugged, picking up her box. She kicked the door open unceremoniously and skipped out into the hallway, leaving a plethora of confused faces in her wake.
Gepard sighed. She hadn’t let him get a single word in edgewise. It was the trademark Landau stubbornness, after all.
———
Vaska’s stream of praises for the cafe you had chosen today were endless. She had the expression of someone who had just won the lottery as she bit into a cinnamon strudel.
“Mmm, thish ish sooo delicious...” She licked the sugary dust off her fingers in satisfaction, wiping her lips and picking up another one. “How’d you find this place?”
“A friend introduced me,” you replied as you sipped your raspberry mint tea. “I'm surprised you didn't know about it, actually,”
“Well, I'm trying to avoid spending money because I’m saving for the upcoming sequel of my favorite book!” She giggled. The air seemed to be filled with sparkles all of a sudden.
“Is it to Tale of the Winterlands?” You asked, raising your eyebrows.
“Bingo!”
“Aren't you afraid of it being confiscated?”
“Not anymore,” Vaska crossed her arms with a smile. “It’s pending approval. Anyways, I didn't know you had friends outside of the flower shop. I'm glad you're finally branching out!”
She rested her index finger on her cheek before continuing. “Although… Meg is gonna have your head if you keep coming back late after deliveries,”
“Gah, I know, I know. I just get so caught up talking to one of the clients. The friend I was just talking about,”
“Hmph. I'm just trying to keep you out of the fire, you know. On the other hand, she sounds delightful! What’s she like?”
“Um,” you paused. “He’s a guard,”
“A guard?” Her eyes glittered as she leaned across the table. “No way. An Underworlder and a guard, huh? What an interesting pair!”
You chuckled. “I guess you're right. He can be a little awkward sometimes, but he's very genuine and diligent!”
“As all good guards are, of course,” she nodded. A surprised expression flickered across your face.
“Vaska… Is there something you want to tell me?” You jested. “I didn't know you had a type. Besides the musician, of course,”
You've never seen someone’s expression go deadpan so quickly.
“No. Nope. You've got it all wrong!!” She crossed her forearms in an “X”.
“The idea of romance isn't half bad, but being in it sounds way too hard. If anything, my type would be more like Anna, from—,”
“Tale of the Winterlands,” you interjected again. She hummed in approval.
“That’s understandable,” you said. “You’re both very independent,”
“Aww, you think so?” A rosy blush spread across your co-worker’s face. “It's so nice to have a friend like you,”
She fiddled with the straw in her drink. “Anyways… what's the name of your guard friend?” You took a sip of your own before replying.
“Gepard,”
Vaska’s jaw dropped through the floor.
“WHAT?!?” She stood up and slammed her hands onto the table. You recoiled in shock, her exclamation almost blowing your beret off. Heads turned towards your table as you panicked.
“Shh! Vaska, keep it down!” You hissed, placing your hands on her forearms in an attempt to soothe her. She sat back down and began to chew on her fingernails.
“Gepard… Gepard Landau??”
“Uh-huh,”
“Blonde hair, blue eyes, built like a tank?”
“Yeah, what about him? He’s not like a serial killer or something, right??”
Your mind flashed back to the times he directed you to the inside of the sidewalk or smiled tenderly at the flowers in the shop when he thought no one was looking.
No way—,
“No, goodness gracious no. Of course not! Gepard is the furthest thing from a serial killer you could get.” She shook her head vigorously, her beret flying off and drifting to the floor. She leaned down from her chair to grab it, her face still red from shouting.
“Then WHY is this such a big deal??” You inquired with an exasperated look on your face.
“It’s because HE'S THE CAPTAIN OF THE SILVERMANE GUARDS,” she spat out in a single breath. She let out a wheeze as she dropped her head onto the table.
It was your turn for your jaw to drop.
“Th--, Th-the Captain?!? Oh Aeons…” you stammered, biting on a mint leaf. You winced as the icy juices spread across your tongue.
“Didn't you notice no other ‘guard’ in the area looked like him?”
“I mean, yes. But I thought the guards OUTSIDE the city wore stuff like that too,” you said, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear nervously.
“Oh by the PRESERVATION.” She ran a palm across her face.
“And— and I did notice people gave us some weird looks when we danced in the square—,”
“You DANCED WITH HIM???”
Vaska was about to rip her hair out. You buried your face in your arms and nodded.
“...Vaska, does this mean I have to stop hanging out with him?” You said quietly.
She grabbed you by the cheeks and pulled you close.
“NO. Of course not. It’s just that.. I’d hate for you to be involved in some high class squabble or something,” she snorted. “You know how easily agitated the nobles are,”
“Er—, Not really?”
“Well, they are! Who knows, you probably already have a bunch of jealous suitors!”
You held your palms out to placate her. “I mean, Gepard is great and all, but it’s really not like that. He values his work more than anything,”
“You can't ever be too safe.” She gave you a warning glance. “If rumors get spread, and you lose your job, who would I look forward to talking to every day??”
“I’d still come and visit!” You protested. “And I hardly believe Meg would kick me out because of a bunch of silly rumors,” you said flatly.
“That is NOT the issue,” she groaned. You reached out and clasped her hands.
“Don't worry, Vaska. I'm gonna be careful, okay?”
“I trust you, but just know I will be terrified. Forever. ‘Til the end of days,” she bemoaned.
“I get where you’re coming from,” you reassured her. “Just remember, this is my decision. I’d never take on anything I couldn’t handle!”
She pouted, stretching her arm across the cafe table and snagging your tea. She took a sip and handed it back to you.
“Ugh. Too much milk,” she scowled before quickly returning to her normal self. “Now, Tell me what being friends with the Captain of the Silvermane Guards is like…”
You laughed gently.
“Of course. I'd be happy to,”
———
Later, after you had left the cafe, you opened up your phone and sent a text to Serval.
To: Serval
You: Serval, why did no one bother telling me that your brother is the captain of the Silvermane Guards???
Serval: …belobog’s last bastion of hope?
You: Do NOT avoid the question
Serval: ahahaha
Serval: sorry, sorry
Serval: I thought you knew
You: I did not.
Serval: oops
Serval: don’t worry, it’s not like he's any less dorky when he's commanding platoons or anything
You: SERVAL

eight go rush thoughts
me, trying to make sense of the rush duel timeline: wtf is this shit
long post and spoiler(duh) warning
okay. first of all, the creator is otes.
ik this is very obvious, but think about it. the creator could be the gr counterpart/ancestor of otes. they have the same voice obviously but that doesn't help us distinguish the difference. otes' theme(the resting place of the king of duels or something idk) plays during the creator scene we all know from ep 51- something that doesn't happen with the counterparts of gr. imma keep explaining this later.
(edit: found the otes theme)
second, making sense of the time travel shenanigans.
obviously, yuuga leaves with otes into the hyperspace at ep 92 of sevens, going back in time(supposedly, otes survives). somehow, otes arrives much earlier than yuuga, becomes ZA CREATOR, and creates the velgearians, starting the war. yuuga then arrives and gets captured by zwijo, who already knows of the karutamata stuff. he then establishes rush duels with the help of yuuna and asaka and works at goha company. this all happens about 2 years before the main story of gr starts.
third, rush duels will disappear at the end of gr.
assuming that the rush duel robot came into the atmosphere roughly unharmed, it's either on the moon rn or somehow stored somewhere by yuuga to power the rush duels happening during gr. so, when yuuga inevitably leaves the time of gr and takes the rush duel robot with him, rush duels will disappear- like the sevens ending, not including the part where yuuga comes back to the sevens time period. if yuuga builds another robot, though, that's a different story.
fourth, also tying into the second one, is gr connecting into sevens stuff.
hypothetically, there once was an 'old gr'- one that led to sevens as it was supposed to, one without aliens and rush duels. once yuuga and otes took off into hyperspace and were sent back in time to old gr, they changed it to the gr we have today. if yuuga and otes were taken out of the equation, then there would be no aliens and no rush duels and the cast of gr(sans the aliens, obviously) would progress their lives normally like non-anime characters.
fifth, yuudias might permadie or tempdie at the end of gr.
everyone knows the legend of the sevens- and its unnamed gr counterpart. instead of the king of duels, the prophecy mentions becoming a 'light for the universe'. this hints at yuudias pulling a yuuga and sacrificing himself to beat whoever the final antagonist is. because bridge era prophecies are shown to eventually be true(see: legend of the sevens, sevens ep 92) and the fact the two legends are very similar and likely to both be created by otes, yuudias' fate is probably going to be similar to yuuga's at the end of sevens.
sixth, ygo 9.
ygo 9 might be what would happen in the future of new gr, as old gr was already eradicated by the time travelers from sevens. solid vision and rush duels were created before they were supposed to be, and will cause major mishaps in the timeline- unless they do the thing. since it is highly likely that they will do a rush duel trilogy, the protag might be the descendant of a sevens character, if the bloodlines weren't disrupted too hard by the time travel shenanigans.
seventh, the thing.
the yuugotes theory. yes, you heard me right. the yuugotes theory. where they murder yuuga's personality and create a stable timeloop somehow with yuuga becoming the next otes. the procedure is unclear, but it likely includes yuuga going back in time(via another hyperspace. he might've researched 'em or something) when he's an adult(after old otes dies somehow. maybe in the fight with yuudias. can't have two otes running around the timeline) and trying to fix otes' mistakes by doing it himself, but ultimately failing and unwittingly continuing the long loop of the rush duel continuation. this also explains why otes has a strong sense of foresight- as he already knows what's going to happen. i found some proof for this actually)
these images and this tweet by the translator of entamesubs (here: https://twitter.com/octomaidly/status/1455019365351440390) very much foreshadow this. while it definitely seems like a red herring, there wasn't like nine characters that went "oh, otes must be a time-travelled yuuga!" like the goha yuuga situation.
eighth, the legend of the sevens and the book of sevens
we all know how the legend goes- "on the night of a large and hardly recognizable full moon, a duelist will carve an unknown path and become the king of duels." and also the gr version- "on the night of a large and hardly recognizable celestial body of earth, a warrior shall carve open an unknown path with rush duels and become a light for the universe." and i'm pretty sure the book of sevens goes something like this: a young sorcerer with the power of the sevens gets sent by a wise old man to seek out the other six with the same power. the story ends with "the young sorcerer... shed tears as he destroyed the moon." and was almost true in the final duel against otes- if yuuga hadn't played the trap card perfect sevens. this might play a role in gr as it didn't happen in sevens. the beginning part happened, yuuga leaving behind his friends happened- just not the destroying of the moon.
(also, when rewatching ep 91-92 of sevens, i found something- how tf did yuuga ✨(sevens) magic(ally)✨ change from his spacesuit to his normal clothes after the infamous road scene- i mean, it makes sense for that scene and that scene only, but not for afterward. also, yuuga didn't attack otes yet before going into the hyperspace- sure, it's implied, but not shown. additionally, yuuga's friends probably didn't see his win against otes)
don't think about all this too much- don't get a headache like me :)

Date Plan A to Z
a/n: Hello! This is something that I just came out with after listening to Date Plan A to Z. It's about how Chiaki (because I feel that he would panic when it comes to dating) is making sure that date is going to go smoothly. Hope you enjoy!
Chiaki stood in front the window display of a shop.
"It's almost time." he mumbled, counting the minutes down on his hand.
He could feel his heart beating quickly at the thought of bringing you, his significant other, on a date.
First date.
He did one last check on how he looked through the window display.
"Today's the awaited first date."
In his head, he was planning on what he should do in order to make this an amazing first date for the both of you.
"Plan A, I take a bolder step forward."
Maybe he should be more romantic? Hugging and kissing you the moment he sees you? But he was afraid that you feel uncomfortable, so...
"No, Plan B, I act like always."
Maybe it was better if he just acted normal. That was the reason why you fell for him in the first place, right?
"I don't wanna make a single mistake."
He was determined to make this date perfect and to make you smile. Seeing your gorgeous smile made him feel like the luckiest man alive.
Suddenly, he heard you shouting his name.
He turned to face you and immediately felt his heart beating faster than before.
You held his hand and asked him what he had planned for the both of you but all you heard was Chiaki stuttering.
You could tell that he was nervous and suggested to go to a cafe you had in mind to grab a drink and talk for a while. Without waiting for his reply, you began dragging him to the cafe.
While you were dragging him, Chiaki was busy planning in his head again.
"Plan C, let me take the lead"
Was it too late to change plans and go to the amusement park just like he had planned?
"Plan D, feeling like giving it up as soon as it starts"
Seeing you happily walking to the cafe made him want to forget about his initial plan and allow you to do what you want on this date.
He remembered how he reacted earlier and felt embarrassed. He wanted to rewind time so that he could fix that mistake and start the date properly.
"It’s all so bad, just so bad, I’m so sorry"
Before he knew it, you both reached the cafe. The moment you and Chiaki entered the cafe, everyone turned to look at the both of you. Chiaki felt uneasy but seeing you smile at him made him relax.
After ordering your drinks and finding a place to sit, you started asking him about his private and idol life. He began to feel comfortable around you and when he found out that you were interested in idols, he was delighted!
The two of you began to learn more about each other during the time spent at the cafe and he decided to walk you back home.
"But I think we’re keeping a conversation better than before"
The more the both of you talked, the more Chiaki realised that he was actually communicating with you properly. Whenever you laughed or smiled, he would feel his heart beating faster and a blush would form on his cheeks.
Walking along the streets, you both passed a window display. Chiaki stopped walking and held you close.
"I see us two through the window display, looking stylish"
The two of you were not in uniform but stylish clothing, making the both of you look like a lovely couple. No wonder the people at the cafe were looking at the both of you.
You told him that your home was just across the street and that you could walk yourself home from here. He smiled at you and told you that he had fun today.
"Is it okay if I ask you out again some day?" he asked.
You happily replied that you would love to and kissed him on his cheek.
Chiaki froze and watched you wave at him as you began to walk in the opposite direction.
"Seeing the distance between us, reflected on the window display"
"I think we’ve gotten closer than we were this morning"

So this happened. I don't write sex, I don't even write hinting at sex (anymore), and yet. Welp.
@brobonebang showed up on my dash, I laughed and loved the whole thing (Wincest is one of like maybe 3 ships I actually read smutty fics for, and the only ship of those that I actually properly ship), then I went to check out the prompts, saw the laundromat one, and my brain said "What if we wrote that? Right now?" and I did. I'm still confused, but also happy, because I actually wrote something that I finished and, more importantly, feel good enough about that I want to share it. And that last point made me even more confused, because, again, sex. What.
Anyway.
I had fun writing, and I hope you have fun reading.
Edited by me, with the help of LanguageTool. Thank you to @rieraclaelin for reading it through for me and reassuring me it's okay to post it! Any remaining mistakes are my own, please leave them alone.
Warnings: Aside from what's already tagged, there are some small things I didn't want to tag because they're too minor, but that some people might want to avoid. • There's an OFC (this is where the exhibitionism comes in). She doesn't really see anything, and the brothers stop when there's a risk that she will. • Very brief cocksucking (and talk about future face fucking). • Very, very mild incest kink, imo. • And lastly, some mild teasing. If you think any of these deserves their own warning tags, please let me know so I can fix it.
In the Laundromat ao3
1895 words | Explicit fandom: Supernatural pairing: Wincest characters: Dean Winchester, Sam Winchester tags: Established Wincest, Brother/Brother Incest, PWP, Bottom Dean/Top Sam, Anal Sex, Semi-Public Sex, Exhibitionism, Sam Has a Large Penis, Cock Warming
“Hey, I’m bored,” Sam said and slid his hand down the back of Dean’s underwear, rubbing the pad of his index finger against his hole.
“Jesus, Sammy,” Dean muttered. “Here?”
They were in a laundromat late at night, and while the late hour reduced the risk of other people coming to do their laundry, it meant the place was fully lit up and everyone walking by could see them through all the many windows.
“We’ve done worse,” Sam said with a shrug., removing his hand, only to return it a moment later with spit slick fingers. Dean’s cock twitched, and he let out a small groan. “Yeah?”
“Yeah, okay,” Dean rasped, and Sam pushed his fingers inside him.
The double row of washers were between them and the entrance, Dean leaning against one of the washers they used with his elbows on top of it, so people wouldn’t see what they were up to unless they came inside. They could probably guess, though, but Dean didn’t get much time to worry about that before Sam pulled his underwear down his butt just enough to push his lubed cock inside him. That sneaky bastard. Dean’s eyelids fluttered as he breathed out a moan, and Sam gripped his hips and moaned against his neck.
They must be a sight, Dean in just a t-shirt, underwear, and shoes, with Sam standing behind him, wearing jeans and shoes, his naked chest pressed against Dean’s back as he pushed him against the washer.
Sam slowly fucked into him, keeping them fairly still as he kissed and mouthed and moaned on Dean’s neck. He snuck a hand down the front of Dean’s underwear, grabbing his cock, and Dean couldn’t stop a low groan.
The sound of the door opening had them both freezing on the spot, but the woman didn’t even glance at them as she walked up to a washer. Sam slowly straightened up and pressed his groin against Dean’s ass, gently rolling his hips as he filled him up.
Dean turned his head. “You bitch,” he breathed quietly enough that only Sam could hear him.
Sam chuckled against Dean’s hair. “Jerk,” he said, just as quietly.
He pressed hard against Dean, against the washer in front of him, and his light grip on Dean’s cock vibrated with the washer.
The woman slammed the door of her washer while Sam rolled his hips, then she sat down with a heavy sigh and pulled out a dog-eared book. She looked far away as she stared at the pages of the book, Dean doubted she was actually reading, or aware of anything going on around her.
Sam seemed to agree as he fucked into Dean, bending his knees to get the angle right. He kept his movements small and slow as he pressed Dean against the washer. But then the woman furrowed her brow, and Sam stilled again, wrapping his free arm around Dean’s shoulders, making it look like he was just hugging him from behind.
Then they stood there. Sam gently stroked and fondled Dean’s cock, and he occasionally shifted his weight and rolled his hips.
Dean wanted to fucking weep, he was so hard. He wanted Sam to grab his hips and fuck him hard, to bend him over one of the counters and take him apart with his cock. But he stayed still, just clenched Sam’s cock in his ass as he closed his eyes and tilted his head to press his mouth against Sam’s forearm.
Then the centrifuge cycle started, and Dean couldn’t stop a whimper from escaping as Sam’s hand vibrated on his cock. Sam’s soft chuckle jostled him gently, and Dean opened his mouth to put his teeth to Sam’s skin when he pushed his cock deeper into his ass.
It was a few minutes of torture, standing there pressed against a vibrating washer with Sam’s cock inside him, while Sam rolled his hips and fondled his cock. Sam put the head of Dean’s cock against the glass of the washer, and Dean twitched at the vibrations and muffled a moan against Sam’s forearm.
But then the centrifuge stopped and their washer was done, and Sam slipped out of Dean and nudged him to the side so he could open the door.
“Fucking asshole,” Dean muttered as he righted his underwear and uselessly tugged at his t-shirt in the hopes it would cover him up more.
Sam just grinned at him and gestured to the other washers they had running that were finishing up too. They moved all three of their loads to dryers, Sam had to tuck himself away and button his jeans when they started to move around, but the outline of his cock was clearly visible. And distracting as fuck.
“Come on,” Sam said once the dryers were going, and tugged Dean back to the washer. He wrapped his arm around his shoulders again and pressed his clothed erection against Dean’s ass.
“Bossy,” Dean muttered.
Sam laughed softly and nuzzled the side of his neck while slipping his free hand in between them to pull his cock out again. He tugged Dean’s underwear down, then slowly pressed his cock back inside him as he slid his hand around Dean and down his underwear to grip his cock.
“You’re comfy,” he said, and Dean huffed out a breath.
“Mhm,” he said.
Sam didn’t move, just stroked Dean’s cock while he leaned against him like the big lug he was. He sighed, seemingly perfectly content standing there with his cock in Dean’s ass while a woman tiredly stared unseeingly at a book just a few feet away. Dean tilted his head forward to hide a smile against Sam’s arm. He clenched around Sam, and the little hitch in Sam’s breath had his smile widening. But Sam quickly got his revenge, as he stroked Dean’s cock in a firm grip, making his breathing pick up no matter how hard he tried to keep it even and slow.
“Did you get a chance to look at the Cockatrice stuff, by the way?” Sam said, his voice low but not whispering, as if everything was normal and they were just having a regular laundromat conversation.
Dean lifted his head. “Uh, yeah, what the fuck was that, a rooster dragon medusa?” he said.
Sam probably rolled his eyes, his head shifted slightly behind Dean’s, but he pressed his mouth to the side of Dean’s neck in an almost-kiss. “Yeah, pretty much. Could be it,” he said.
“Mhm,” Dean agreed and clenched around Sam again. He didn’t like talking about their cases while they fucked, because it always made him horny while working their cases. But on the other hand, he liked tormenting Sam with his horny and he liked stopping for quickies in the car, so really, it wasn’t so bad. Except when they couldn’t pause for some release, but they usually made time.
Sam squeezed Dean’s cock and ran his thumb over the head in revenge, and Dean muffled his moan against his arm, while Sam kept talking about the case. It probably was a Cockatrice, but Dean wasn’t focusing too well on what Sam was saying, not when he kept stroking his cock and shifting his weight, pulling out an inch or two and then pushing back in, on a couple of occasions hard enough to make Dean grunt. He managed to keep the conversation going, but it was mostly to keep up appearances, to make it look like they were just standing there, hugging and talking.
He really fucking hoped the woman wasn’t gonna dry her stuff too, or they’d have to leave hard, and he hated leaving hard.
When her washer was on the centrifuge stage, Sam put his mouth to Dean’s ear to speak. “I want to bend you over the counter and fuck you, let her see you take my cock,” he said in a low whisper.
His breath made Dean shiver, and his words made Dean’s cock twitch.
Dean turned his head towards Sam. “Want to show off your big cock, baby brother?” he asked, just as quietly, smirking when Sam breathed out a small whimper against his cheek.
“Yeah,” Sam rasped, “and show her how well my big brother takes it.”
“Yeah,” Dean whispered. Fuck, she needed to leave ASAP, or they would have problems.
As if hearing his thought, her washer slowed down and came to a stop, and both Sam and Dean stood perfectly still, only Sam’s hand moved on Dean’s cock. The woman twitched when her washer beeped, and she quickly put her book away and stuffed her wet laundry in a bag, then she left the laundromat.
“Oh, thank fuck,” Dean said as soon as the door closed behind her.
“Yeah,” Sam said and grabbed Dean’s hips to pull him back and start to fuck him properly, finally letting him feel the full length of him. “Oh, fuck, Dean, I’m so close, Jesus.”
“Yeah, come on, baby,” Dean said, and Sam did the little whine-grunt he always did when Dean called him baby when they fucked.
“I’ve got you,” he grunted, fucking Dean harder.
“I want you to fuck my face,” Dean said, and Sam swore and came with a loud groan.
“Oh, fuck, fuck you, fuck,” Sam said, and Dean grinned.
“Okay, maybe later, then,” he said.
“God, shut up, fuck, come on,” Sam said, pulling out of Dean and dropping to his knees. Dean hadn’t more than turned around before Sam’s mouth was on him, sucking him in, and he shoved two fingers up his ass too, making Dean groan.
“Oh, God, Sammy, fuck,” Dean said, and Sam moaned around him. Dean’s eyelids fluttered, but he looked at Sam and smiled. “Yeah, you’re so pretty on your knees for me, baby.”
Sam closed his eyes and moaned again, but he quickly looked at Dean again, his eyes big. He knew exactly what he was doing to Dean, looking at him like that.
“Fuck me, Jesus,” Dean said, and came down Sam’s throat.
Sam sucked Dean through it and swallowed it all with a pleased smile on his face. He pulled off and the smile turned into a grin.
“Not Jesus, but—”
“Oh, shut up,” Dean interrupted with a short laugh, and Sam smoothly stood up and tucked himself away, still grinning. A grin that only widened when Dean pulled his underwear in place and made a face at how sticky he was. “Good thing we washed my jeans, they totally won’t be ruined on the way to the motel.”
Sam shrugged and put his own sticky fingers in his mouth, sucking his own come from them from where they had been buried in Dean’s ass just a moment ago, and Dean pushed his arm hard enough to make him stumble to the side and laugh.
“You’re so fucking gross,” Dean said.
“At least my jeans are still clean,” Sam said smugly.
“I changed my mind, I don’t want you to fuck my face,” Dean said. Well, he did, but he wanted to make him come in his own pants more.
“Sure, whatever you say,” Sam said. He knew Dean far too well.
-
They hadn’t more than closed the motel room door behind them before Dean was on his knees, pawing at Sam’s jeans to get his cock out. Eh. He’d get his revenge soon enough.

𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐝𝐚𝐲 - akaashi, iwaizumi
Pairings: Iwaizumi, Akaashi x gn!reader
Notes: this was written at like 2am and edited (half assed) when I was half asleep so I’m very sorry if there is any mistakes, love you guys
Warnings: harsh language, reader gets called clingy, minor arguing, most of this has been done before lmao, very hurt/comfort
― Akaashi
Chances are he got to engrossed in work because it's not like akaashi to forget something like this
Really, he remembers almost everything when it comes to you so when you were still sat alone at 10pm on your birthday, you began to worry something had happened to him
There was no dinner ready and you hadn’t dressed up yet, thinking Keiji would come home and tell you what you were doing
Yet you found yourself ringing his phone for the 5th time that night, this time he answered
“What y/n I’m really busy?” His tone led you to believe he wasn’t in the best mood
You asked him when he would be home and that seemed to set him off
“I told you i had to do things today okay, I won’t be home until later I don’t get why you have to know what I’m doing all the time. Think about me for once”
And with that you hung up, it was obvious what had happened.
Keiji felt guilty yeah, but he did need to work and he knew that he could just apologise when he got home. Sure, it wasn’t like you to just hang up but he figured you were also tired from the long week and left it at that. It wasn’t until he opened his messages he felt his blood freeze.
There, screaming at him from the screen of his phone, was a text from bokuto that read ‘hey, y/n isn’t picking up could you say happy birthday for me man?’
He had to get home.
-
By the time the black haired man had arrived back home, he was soaked from the rain and biting at his nails nervously. The lights in the house were all off and he just hoped to god that you were still inside the house. Even though it would be perfectly within your right to not be.
The living room held a silence that he had never quite hated as much as he did now. The pile of openers cards from your friends seemed to taunt him from the coffee table. How had even atsumu remembered and he hadn’t? He was your boyfriend. He hoped he would still be when he finally found you. You were curled up on your side in your bedroom. Obviously not asleep but not showing any signs of acknowledgment either. Guilt tugged at his stomach.
“Y/n” he started, trailing off
What was he supposed to say to you? ‘Hey sorry I forgot your birthday and called you selfish’. Yeah, great going Keiji.
“Y/n I’m really sorry and I know that probably won’t make it better and I can’t take back what I said to you.” He drew in a shaky breath, “I’m so sorry I didn’t mean to forget about you I’ve just been working so hard and-“
A sob cut him off. His soft hand on your shoulder broke your resolve and you allowed him to turn you around.
“Just,” you sobbed, “please don’t do it again Keiji, all I do is think about you”
He wrapped his arms around your shaking form, pulling you into his embrace.
“I know, I should’ve been thinking more about you. I’m so sorry sweetheart, I promise I’ll make it up to you tomorrow”
― Iwaizumi
Hajime had always been a pretty busy person, this was evident ever since you started dating
Now it was his final year though, you had never seen him more stressed
So, you decided to show up to one of his practices on your birthday, for the past 2 years he had always left early or at least with you when it was a special date
And it was your birthday but that didn’t mean you couldn’t treat him too and you know how hard he had been working, so you made a bento
The moment you walked in to the gym it was like everyone but him lit up, the third years came over to say hi and even Kyoutani sent you a quick nod
You tapped your boyfriend on the shoulder and when he didn’t reply you went for a hug, only for him to move at the last minute
“Why are you here y/n?” He asked coldly
You explained to him that you wanted to come see him like always, not mentioning your birthday in case it was a joke, he wasn’t laughing
“A little clingy don’t you think? You text me all day and now you come and interrupt practice? Why are you so needy today damn?”
You just turned and walked out, hoping nobody had heard your conversation
“Hey Iwa aren’t you gonna leave early?” Matsukawa asked him at the end of practice.
“No, why?” He had calmed down significantly now and had forgotten what he said to you
“Uh... cause it’s y/n's birthday?” Makki called from behind the net, “you do it every year, right?”
Iwa dragged his hands down his face. He had been too stressed to even remember what day it was let alone your birthday. And now he had forgotten you completely after making those comments.
“Why would they want to?” Kyoutani growled up from his sweeping, “after what you said to them”
A dozen pairs of eyes seemed to bore into his soul. Guilt had stolen his breath and his head was spinning but he knew he had to go and fix this before it was too late.
-
You were sat on the cold step of your house, sobbing into the sleeves of one of your boyfriends jumpers. You should probably give that back. If your conversation earlier was anything to go by then he wouldn’t be keeping you around much longer. Staring at the fabric, now stained with your tears, you thought about what he said. Maybe you were clingy.
“Y/n!”
You looked up to see a very out of breath Iwaizumi runnning towards you, face flushed
Looking down, you grumbled a quick ‘what?’. You were hurt and the balloons attached to your bag were smacking against the side of your house as if taunting you.
“You know Iwaizumi” he flinched at the use of his last name, “if you wanted to break up, you could at least have the decency not to do it on my birthday”
“No y/n, I would never- I don’t want to break up” he cried, words were failing but he carried on, “I’ve been so stressed looking after the team and Oikawa with his knee I just forgot”
When your eyes met it felt like his heart had broken in two. Your eyes were glistening with unshed tears and you had obvious tear tracks down your face. A nod let him know it was okay to carry on.
“Please, I’m sorry baby I didn’t mean to forget, can we try again tomorrow? I’d never hurt you on purpose”
Tears began running down your cheeks again.
You nodded and the man pulled you in for a kiss, not caring about the taste of your salty tears. Murmuring ‘I love you’ against your lips, he pulled you in as close as he could to you. Like he would never let you go.
It might not have been the best birthday but you were content knowing he would always try his best to make up for the things he does.
Hey guys! I hope you enjoyed this it wasn’t reread or anything so there might be a lot of mistakes I’m sorry but I’m happy if you liked it mwah!

“It’s probably best to go back to the breach, right?” you decided. “We know it’s there so it’s the best way to get back.”
“_____ has a point,” Wonwoo shrugged.
“Alright, everyone head back to the hole -- and don’t get split up,” Seungcheol stated before deciding to take the lead.
“Okay, but if I see one of those glorified Chuck E. Cheese mascots coming toward us, I’m leaving all of you behind,” Seungkwan muttered as he followed with the group.
All of you were glancing around trying to keep an eye out for the animatronics, while also trying to quickly and quietly make your way back to the way you’d gotten into the park. You kept mentally kicking yourself for convincing your friends to come here. If it wasn’t for you, you wouldn’t be in this mess in the first place. You were just lucky everyone was still here...
The gates were starting to come into view, and you felt relief begin to course through you. Your legs were starting to move faster on their own, just wanting to get out of this living nightmare.
Seungcheol shooting his arms out to stop the group was what had you skid to a stop. He whispered loudly for everyone to get down behind the nearby shrubs and two trash bins. The fourteen of you poked your heads around to see what had gotten him to act like this, and your heart sank at what you saw
Serenity was blocking the hole in the fence.
“Fuck,” Jeonghan hissed.
“We’re gonna die here...” Seokmin whispered, but Wonwoo was quick to comfort him.
“What’s the plan now?” Hansol wondered.
“I know it’ll risk us going to jail or something,” Jihoon began, “but I think it’s time we just cave and call someone.”
“No, I’m not going back there!” Seungkwan whispered intensely.
Your eyebrows furrowed as your turned to look at him, “Excuse me?”
“I’d rather get arrested than get murdered,” Mingyu insisted. “At least we know we’ll be safe and alive in jail.”
You made a face, “Will we, though?”
“Listen,” Hansol interrupted as he pulled out his phone, “I’ll just call my parents -- they’re really chill. And worse case scenario, they just lecture us.”
But as he went to make the call, all his phone did was beep at him like the line was busy. He took the phone away from his ear and looked down, furrowing his eyebrows.
“We had service all night, right?” he asked.
“Yeah...?” Joshua replied.
“Well now I don’t for some reason,” he said, turning his phone screen to show his friends.
Mingyu’s eyes widened, “You’re kidding.”
Then everyone, including you, were taking out their phones and checking for service. Just like Hansol, you had no bars.
Unfortunately, everyone else was in the same boat.
Now, Seokmin was on the verge of tears, “We’re going to die here!”
“Don’t get hysterical yet,” Minghao told him. “There’s gotta be a way out of this. Even if we have to wait around until morning, we can probably out-run these hunks of metal.”
“Y’know, I heard a friend of a friend snuck in here once,” Soonyoung began. “Some dude Changkyun knows. He said there’s apparently some sort of underground exit under the food court.”
“At this point, we’ll have to try anything,” Wonwoo sighed.
“So back to the food court?” Seungcheol practically whined.
You took a deep breath, “Unfortunately, yeah.”
[GO TO: 17 -- A]

“Does anyone even remember where the hole in the fence is?” you asked.
Everyone either gave you blank stares or shook their heads. You let out a sigh.
“Alternate way it is,” Minghao shrugged.
“Let’s just hang here until someone thinks of something,” Seungcheol suggested. “We’re all here, and I think those things are still hanging around wherever we were before. It’ll take a while before we see them again.”
So the fourteen of you hung out at the merry-go-round. Most of you leaned up against the horses or found yourselves sitting down on them. A few of you sat on the two steps of the platform. Chan and Wonwoo were sitting in one of the carriages that most families or parents sat in. All of you were scrolling on your phones or looking at someone else’s phone, trying to research anything about Caratland that might help you find a way out. Maybe a map or a blueprint or something might come up.
Suddenly, the ride jerked. You almost fell over onto Junhui as the ride began turning slowly, the music trying to play but the wiring was too old and worn that it just sounded demonic at best.
“Ha ha, very funny,” Jihoon scoffed. “Who turned on the ride?”
The question was overlooked by Mingyu’s shriek. Every head who was on his side of the merry-go-round whipped over to see Bongbong sitting on a horse only a few rows away from the tall boy. But another scream from Seungkwan was what brought attention to the answer to Jihoon’s question.
Eight was standing at the controls of the ride, his never-changing smile on his face as he slowly waved.
“Run!” Joshua called, leaping off of the horse he was sitting sideways on.
“Run where?” Seokmin called as he scrambled to get off the ride and jump the short fence.
“Food court!” Soonyoung shouted as he pumped his legs as fast as they would go. “It’s a long shot...but I have an idea!”
“I’d rather know the idea first!” Jeonghan called after him as the group ran together away from the merry-go-round.
“One of Changkyun’s friends apparently broke in before!” he tried to explain between breaths. “He said there’s an underground exit there! Who knows if it’s legit, but...”
But it was the only plan they had.

17 -- A
All of you had to squeeze through the tiny basement windows to get back in after finding the doors to be locked once again.
“How’d those fuckers get out in the first place?” Jeonghan huffed as he landed on the concrete floor of the basement. “The doors have been locked this entire time.”
“We’re being chased by animatronics that haven’t been functioning for years, and they’re out to kill us for some reason, and that’s what you’re going to question?” Soonyoung pointed out.
“Can we focus, please?” Seungcheol whined. “The sooner we find this secret eit, the sooner we’re free.”
“Everyone start searching,” Hansol said, waiving for everyone to scour the basement.
All of you searched every inch you could. The floor, the walls, shelves, behind old cupboards and props -- but there was nothing.
“What if it’s not here?” Chan suggested.
“Yeah? And where else would an underground exit be other than in the basement?” Jeonghan shot back.
The youngest frowned and rolled his eyes, “Soonyoung just said it was underground, he didn’t say under what part of the food court.”
“I mean...Jeonghan has a point,” Seokmin admitted hesitantly. “The basement is underground.”

“It can’t hurt to check somewhere else,” you spoke up, moving to stand beside Chan. “We’re looked everywhere down here. What if it’s not in the basement? There could be some secret tunnel under a different location and we’re just going to be here wasting our time.”
“I mean...yeah, that makes sense,” Jihoon decided with a shrug. “Alright, we’ll try back upstairs.”
“I don’t wanna go back up there...” Seokmin whined, clinging to the nearest person -- it happened to be Junhui.
“We’re all going,” you reassured him with a soft smile. “Let’s go. Nothing’s going to happen.”
You led the way up the stairs this time, but you found yourself going slow. You strained your ears for any noise on the other side of the basement door but the food court seemed to be quiet. Maybe the animatronics couldn’t get back in since the doors were locked.
You pushed the door open cautiously, poking your head out to glance around. It seemed empty, so you opened the door wider and let everyone else out.
“Is that e--”
SLAM!
All of you jumped back and turned around hearing the basement door slam shut behind the last person out.
“Fuck this, I want out,” Mingyu stated, shaking his head as he began to quickly walk away from the door.
“Hold up,” Wonwoo reached out and grabbed Mingyu’s wrist to keep him with the group. “We should stick together.”
“It probably just closed from the weight of the door anyway,” Minghao figured before going to pull on the door handle.
It didn’t budge.
“Move out of the way, toothpick,” Seungcheol smoothly pushed Minghao out of the way before trying the door himself.
Still nothing.
“D-did it...lock?” Chan asked slowly.
“Haha, would you look at that?” Seungkwan said, checking his wrist that very clearly didn’t have a watch on it. “I actually have to get the fuck out of here. Bye!”
“Maaaaybe,” Hansol grabbed him by the elbow and dragged him back, “don’t do that.”
“Yeah, nobody goes running off, got it?” Jihoon checked, shining his light at everyone to make sure they agreed to the new rule. “Shit’s too weird to be splitting up.”
“I think our best bet would be to hide in the security room until morning,” you spoke up. “It’s probably the safest place in here.”
“_____’s right,” Wonwoo nodded. “Let’s go -- and stick together.”
As a group, all of you made your way to the security room, with you, Jihoon, and Soonyoung leading the way. All of you had your lights, shining them around to make sure the entire area was safe until you made it to the security room and barricaded the door closed.
“Jesus Christ, I hated that,” Mingyu panted as if he had been holding his breath the entire time you were walking.
“I think I almost shit myself,” Soonyoung admitted.
“Imagine your last words being ‘I think I almost shit myself’,” Junhui snorted.
“Hang on, shut the fuck up,” Seungcheol snapped, holding a hand up as he quickly scanned the group in the room. He was trying to count heads while all of you were talking, and as he quickly recounted, his blood turned to ice. “Why are we one short?”
“One short?” Jeonghan asked.
“Someone’s missing,” he said urgently.
“Alright, let’s run attendance real quick,” Jihoon decided, trying to stay level-headed. He pulled out his phone and went to the group chat. “Obviously I’m here. Soonyoung?”
“Here.”
“Seungcheol?”
“Here.”
“Mingyu?”
“Unfortunately here.”
“Hansol?”
“Yup.”
“_____?”
“Here.”
“Joshua?”
Silence.
Jihoon looked up from his phone, repeating, “Josh?”
You and your friends looked around, trying to find Joshua’s face in the crowded room. But nobody spoke up, and the silence following Joshua’s name became deafening.
“Oh fuck...” you breathed, trying to not completely lose your shit. “Did we really lose Josh?”
“We have to go back for him,” Jeonghan insisted.
“What? No!” Seungkwan shouted. “That’s suicide!”
Then everyone was bickering. While everyone of course wanted to hope Joshua was safe, half of the group felt that going back out to look for him would mean all of them would get killed. The other half, on the other hand, were willing to risk their lives to go on a rescue mission.

“I mean...how would it be under anywhere else?” you asked slowly with a shrug. “No offense, Chan. But like, this is kind of the only basement in the place.”
“See?” Jeonghan sneered.
Chan just frowned and rolled his eyes.
“There’s gotta be something we missed,” Soonyoung said, trying to stay calm. “Let’s just sweep the place over again.”
But after more looking, you still came up with nothing.
“At this point, I’m about to just dig through the boxes of old animatronic parts and just hope there’s a portal at the bottom or something,” Joshua sighed, slumped against a wall with Jeonghan beside him.
“Good luck,” Jeonghan scoffed. “I already tried picking one up to move them away from the wall but they’re super fucking heavy. It’s literally impossible.”
You turned your head to look at the large stack of boxes. There were piles of various sizes, but the ones at the back pressed up against the wall went up the highest. It was a long shot, but behind the boxes was the only place nobody checked because it couldn’t be reached. But with everyone giving up hope, it didn’t hurt to try, right?
“Hey, Gyu,” you spoke up before pointing to the boxes. “Think you can move those?”
Mingyu shrugged, “Yeah, probably.”
He walked over to the wall and began lifting boxes one-by-one. He grunted as he picked them up and moved them away until he called everyone over.
“There’s metal behind here!” he called over his shoulder.
“Ooh, is it the door?” Soonyoung asked excitedly, pushing himself off the floor.
“Told you it was better to look down here,” Jeonghan said once more.
Jihoon groaned, “Can you let it go? Leave Chan alone already.”
Seungcheol started assisting in the box-moving until the metal door was accessible. Seungcheol tried to push it open, but it didn’t budge. He tried harder, but still nothing.
“Can I try?” Mingyu asked.
Seungcheol stepped out of the way, gesturing for the tallest to give it a shot.
Mingyu threw his shoulder into the door a few times before it finally swung open, leading to a narrow corridor that looked like it would bring you straight to Hell.
“Okay,” Soonyoung breathed out, “let’s see if this is the way to freedom.”

“Why is this an argument?!” you shouted over the bickering. “Our friend could be dead! I don’t care if nobody comes with me, but I’m going to find Josh.”
“I’ll go,” Jeonghan stated.
“Me too,” Hansol volunteered with a slight raise of his hand.
“Plus, I highly doubt an animatronic got him,” Minghao scoffed as he went to join your group as you went to open the door.
“Well...good luck with that,” Seungkwan nodded.
In the end, it was you leading the way, with Jeonghan, Hansol, Minghao, Seokmin, and Seungcheol tagging along -- the latter two clinging to each other as you opened the door and went down the short hallway to the door that read EMPLOYEES ONLY on the other side.
“Why would he split off from the group?” Jeonghan wondered. “If he were trying to prank you guys, he would’ve had me in on it.”
“Maybe he just--”
Your sentence was cut off by a scream -- your own scream. Your eyes saw the scene before you: Joshua’s body laying just in front of the EMPLOYEES ONLY door, a bloodied mess. All you could do was scream.
Standing over him, covered in what you could only assume was your friend’s blood, was Bongbong.
“_____, run!” Minghao shouted, grabbing your arm and yanking you away from the door.
He quickly reached for the door and slammed it closed as you and the others ran back down the short hall. Jihoon had poked his head out the door to see what the noise was, and you crashed right into him, hyperventilating as tears welled in your eyes.
God, that image was going to be burned into your brain forever.
“What happened?” he asked.
“J-J-Josh!” you sobbed.
“Those things are in here,” Minghao panted, closing the door to the security room and pressing his back. “Th-they got Josh.”
“You’re fucking with us,” Seungkwan said quietly and very unsurely.
“Would Minghao fuck with you?!” Jeonghan cried. “If you don’t believe us, why don’t you go out there and check for yourself, Kwan? Go get yourself traumatized!”
“Okay, don’t scream at him, it won’t help anything,” Wonwoo spoke up, trying to somehow keep the group put together.
“Let’s just focus on finding a way out,” Seungcheol decided in a shaky voice.
“U-um...guys?” Mingyu spoke up, staring into the monitors.
Everyone gathered over to see what he was looking at.
Each room had a camera and a monitor to go with it. In each room, stood an animatronic. Each camera had an animatronic staring into it, as if they all were staring at the group.
They knew where you were.
“We have to get out of here,” Seomin panted, beginning to hyperventilate. “They’re going to come in here and kill us!”
“I get it’s scary, but we have to stay calm and--”
“Hey!”
Everyone turned their heads a the sudden exclamation. Chan was standing beside a square metal door in the floor with some dusty boxes and wires he’d moved to find it. He smirked, gesturing to the door.
“While you guys were shitting your pants, I found the underground exit,” he stated.
“Well fuck, kid,” Jihoon whistled under his breath.
“Let’s get the hell outta here,” Soonyoung said as he threw the trapdoor opened and descended the ladder that led to a narrow corridor.
Chan gave Jeonghan a pointed look, “And you thought I was stupid.”
Jeonghan just rolled his eyes, “Whatever.”

You felt like a shitty person for not wanting to risk your life for Joshua. You felt extremely guilty that you didn’t want to go out and look for your friend, but truthfully, you were afraid to die -- and that’s why half your friends didn’t want to go looking for him. Not everyone was brave enough to be a hero, and while you always told yourself you would be when putting yourself into the shoes of horror movie characters, it just wasn’t the truth.
But in the midst of the argument of whether or not to go out to search for Josh -- the argument that you stayed silent for -- Mingyu spoke up in a shaky voice, “U-uh...g-guys?”
Everyone turned toward him to see he was staring into the monitors. You all gathered over to see what he was looking at.
Each room had a camera and a monitor to go with it. However, the monitors had gone fuzzy so you couldn’t see anything in any of the rooms.
Wonwoo’s eyebrows furrowed, “Why are the cameras suddenly down?”
You wished they stayed that way after seeing what was displayed next. In each room, stood an animatronic. Each camera had an animatronic staring into it, as if they all were staring at the group.
They knew where you were.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the most disturbing thing.
You could see on one of the monitors, Bongbong was standing in front of the camera holding a familiar body. Joshua was being held up by his neck, and blood was coming out of his mouth, nose, eyes, and even his ears.
You weren’t the only one to let out a scream and flinch away from the camera, hiding your face as you started panicking and crying.
“We have to get out of here,” Seomin panted, beginning to hyperventilate. “They’re going to come in here and kill us!”
“We have to find the fucking exit!” Seungcheol said in a panic. “Everyone go--”
“Hey!”
Everyone turned their heads a the sudden exclamation. Chan was standing beside a square metal door in the floor with some dusty boxes and wires he’d moved to find it. He was just staring at you like he hadn’t just witnessed what all of you did -- and maybe he didn’t because he was too busy searching.
“Way ahead of you,” he stated.
“Thank god,” Jihoon said under his breath.
“Let’s get the hell outta here,” Soonyoung said as he threw the trapdoor opened and descended the ladder that led to a narrow corridor.
Chan gave Jeonghan a pointed look, “And you thought I was stupid.”
Jeonghan just glared at him, “I’m not in the fucking mood.”
And then he went down the ladder.

Other than only being wide enough for one person to walk through at a time, it was also very dimly-lit. It definitely looked like something straight out of a horror movie that would 100% lead to the characters’ imminent death.
Needless to say your heart was pounding in your ears.
There was another metal door, but this one was far easier to open. The squeak of it echoed down the corridor as the thirteen of you filed into the room. It seemed to be where they kept the spare mascot suits that actual employees would wear. There were a few of the bodies of the suits hanging up, with heads scattered in corners and on shelves, along with gloves and feet strewn about.
“I hate this,” Jun stated, looking around the room.
“I know these things are empty, but looking into their empty eyes is somehow worse,” Jihoon mumbled, staring at an Eight head.
At the opposite end of the tiny room in the right corner was another metal door. You were starting to wonder how many more metal doors you’d have to encounter in this place.
To the left of the room, there was a tiny wooden door that seemed like it would lead to a crawlspace. You assumed there was just more storage back there, but nobody cared enough to look back there, anyway. The focus was to get out of this place and get to safety.
“C’mon,” you nodded your head toward the other metal door that you assumed would lead to the exit, “let’s keep going.”
As Seungcheol went for the door, you and your friends heard banging. You all paused, Seungcheol’s hand on the handle. You listened for the banging again, and then looked to where it seemed to be coming from.
“Guys?” Joshua’s voice called from behind the small wooden door. “Guys?! Oh my god, guys! C-can you hear me? Hello?! Help me!”
“Josh?” Jeonghan took a step toward the door.

“Joshua!” you cried as you ran to the small door.
You knew what your eyes saw, but was it possible none of it was real? How else would you be hearing Joshua’s voice? He must’ve been alive somehow. Anything seemed possible at this point.
You got down on your knees, opened the small door, and crawled your way through. You stood up as your friends tried to get in behind you, but what you saw made your heart fall into your stomach as your hands went to cover your mouth, muffling the loud sob that came out.
Joshua’s body was slumped against the left wall, looking just as you had remembered.
He was still dead.
Your friends had similar reactions to you. Seokmin even threw up.
Seungcheol shook his head slowly, eyes full of tears while some streaked his cheeks, “We... W-we have to bring his body...”
“He’s right,” Jihoon said solemnly -- his body seemed to be shutting down now, almost uncapable of processing his emotions. “We need evidence of what happened tonight. Nobody will believe us otherwise.”
“I-I hate to say it, b-but...it’ll s-slow us down, though,” Wonwoo interjected through his sniffles. “What if we don’t make it out?”

You quickly reached out and grabbed Jeonghan to keep him from going any closer to that door. He turned to look at you, a pained expression on his face.
“Jeonghan, that’s not Joshua,” you told him. “You saw what happened to him. Whatever it is, it’s not him.”
“I think _____’s right,” Wonwoo nodded. “We need to keep going.”
You kept your hold on Jeonghan as all of your began filing out of the mascot room into another narrow corridor like the other one. This one, though, had a sharp right turn before leading down a while to another steel door.
But this door didn’t budge.
Soonyoung was at the head of the group, and he groaned in frustration as he tugged at the handle over and over again, “You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me; what’s with these doors?!”
You started to hear a thumping. It slowly got louder and louder...
...Or maybe it was closer and closer.
Junhui walked down the way you’d come and poked his head around the corner, his eyes widening at what he saw. He whipped his head back around and booked it straight back to where your group was trying to open the door, calling, “You might wanna hurry up on that door!”
Coming down the hall were all four animatronics, their eyes lit up as they stomped closer and closer.
“It’s not doing anything!” Soonyoung huffed, trying with all his might to open the door. “Mingyu, get up here!”
Mingyu squeezed between bodies to get to the door, trying to open it as the group just shouted for him to be faster.
“We might have to just...face these things,” Chan said. “Once and for all.”
“Yeah? How?” Wonwoo scoffed. “They’ll crush us in seconds.”
“There’s fou-- thirteen of us, and four of them. We might have a shot.”

“We can’t just leave him here,” you stated. “Not only for the evidence, but because he doesn’t deserve to rot away here. His family doesn’t deserve to wonder what happened to him.”
“I’ll grab him,” Seungcheol offered, swallowing his fears and stepping forward to scoop up his friend. “Let’s get him home.”
Chan was the last into the tiny room, so he turned to go. But the wooden door was suddenly closed and wouldn’t open back up.
“What the hell?!” he grunted as he continued to try the door.
“Why’d you let it close, dumbass?!” Jeonghan demanded.
“I didn’t!” Chan shouted back. “It was just open!”
“Ugh, leave it to the fucking baby to--”
“G-guys?” Seokmin asked.
“Can you get off my fucking case?!” Chan huffed as he stood up and went to stand toe-to-toe with Jeonghan. “You’re always such a fucking asshole to me! Why can’t you--”
“Guys?” Seokmin tried again, looking between the left and right walls.
“Are you two really going to argue right now?” Jihoon groaned. “We’re literally--”
“Guys!” Seokmin finally shouted over everyone. “The walls!”
“What about the--”
Jihoon’s question died down as soon as all of you began looking at the walls. They were moving in toward each other, which would crush all of you between them.
Everyone was suddenly in a panic. Everyone was throwing themselves at the door, trying to tug it open before the walls could do anything. Some of you -- such as you and Wonwoo -- decided to spread out so you had more room. But some -- like Jeonghan and Chan, who grouped up by the door with a few others -- created a big human-lump that would be crushed faster. You heard their cries and pleas before they were crushed to death with a sound you couldn’t get out of your ears.
It was only a moment later you met the same fate.

"Nobody wants to be the asshole that says it’s better to leave him behind, but...” you trailed off.
Wonwoo was right. Joshua would more than likely slow you down. Besides, you knew Josh would want all of you to have the best chance of getting out alive as possible.
“Th-then you go ahead,” Seokmin spoke up, almost like he was afraid to.
“What?” Jihoon asked.
“I...” Seokmin looked at Joshua as more tears welled in his eyes. “It makes me sad to think he’d just be down here alone. I don’t care if he’s...gone. He can’t just stay down here.”
“I’m not leaving my best friend down here,” Jeonghan agreed.
“Seokmin, he’s--”
“Look, just go,” Hansol interrupted whatever Jihoon was going to say. “I’ll help them with the body. You guys just go on ahead.”
Minus the three who wanted to collect Joshua’s body, the group turned and left the small room and went back to the mascot room. Soonyoung tugged on the metal door and led the way down another corridor that looked exactly the same as the one that had led into the mascot room. This one, though, had a sharp right turn before leading down a while to another steel door.
But as you were walking down the hallway, you heard the yells and screams of your three friends. All of you turned on a dime and ran back toward the mascot room but the metal door was already closed and wouldn’t re-open for some reason. All of you were yelling and trying to open the door until you heard a sickening crunch, and then silence.
You all fell silent. You didn’t know what to do now.
“We--” Jihoon’s voice cracked so he cleared his throat. “We should just...keep going...”
Following behind Jihoon, you all turned one by one and went back down the hallway. You turned the corner and walked down that long hallway toward another metal door.
But this door didn’t budge.
Jihoon groaned in frustration as he tugged at the handle over and over again, “You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me; what’s with these doors?!”
You started to hear a thumping. It slowly got louder and louder...

“Mingyu, keep trying the door!” you called to him. “We’ll try to hold them back.”
“We?!” Seungkwan repeated.
Mingyu continued to try to pull the door open as the animatronics slowly turned the corner and began walking toward the nine of you. You weren’t sure how to prepare yourself for this at all, but you knew you couldn’t just turn your back and die.
But you should’ve known what would happen. Four giant machines up against eight fleshy humans who were nowhere near as strong. Sure, all of you were faster than them, but how could you dodge or run in such a narrow hallway? You were doomed from the start.
Well, not you specifically.
Seungcheol had shoved you to the back toward Mingyu, promising to keep you safe. So your friends all died in front of you, and all you could do was stand there and watch in horror.
That’s when Bongbong closed in on you.
“I got the--!”
Mingyu’s exclamation of finally getting the door open was cut off by Bongbong’s arm swinging out and clotheslining him into the wall and cutting off his oxygen.
The attack that was meant for you, but you had ducked underneath.
The light flooded into the corridor, and just like that, the animatronics just shut down. The light turned off in their eyes, and they were frozen with their hands reaching out for you.
Except Bongbong’s arm that was now frozen in place, keeping Mingyu strangled against the wall.
You could hear Mingyu gasping for air as you slowly opened your eyes that you’d squeezed shut when you ducked. You looked up and saw the animatronics were lifeless now, and then you shot up and turned to try to help Mingyu. You pulled and pulled on Bongbong’s arm while you had to watch Mingyu slowly die. It was like watching a movie in slow motion, the way his body went limp and the life drained from his eyes. Still, you stood there and sobbed and told him you’d free him as you continued to pull uselessly at the animatronic.
When it finally set in that you didn’t stand a chance, you ran out the back parking lot where the door opened to. You ran out of the park and to your car -- which was still parked near the other 3 that belonged to your friends that were no longer with you -- and drove off toward home with tears still streaming down your face.
The clock on your car radio said 6:08am.

“The door will work!” you swore “Like the basement, remember? Just keep trying!”
Sure, this was different in the way that you had to pull and not push, but it had to give eventually, right?
You continued to face the animatronics that were now starting to close in on all of you. Seungcheol tried to squeeze in besided Mingyu, grabbing the handle and pulling with him. Jihoon crawled between Mingyu’s legs and stood in between the taller boy’s arms, both of his hands wrapped around the handle and tugging with everything he had.
You moved to put yourself in front of your friends. You got all of them into this mess, so you deserved to be the first to die.
As Bongbong closed in on you, you closed your eyes.
“_____--!”
The darkness you saw behind your eyelids suddenly seemed brighter, and you felt a gust of wind from behind you.
There was a couple seconds of silence.
“Holy shit,” Minghao breathed.
You opened one eye just enough to see Bongbong’s face just inches from yours. But...why were the lights in its eyes off?
You opened your eye wider. Then the other one. Its arm was only a hair away from you, but it made no move to actually touch you. There was also light flooding into the corridor from behind you. You whipped your head around to see the door was open, and you looked back at four animatronics. Were they off now?
“Oh my god,” you sighed in a shaky voice, taking a step backward toward the door.
“Let’s get the fuck out of here,” Wonwoo said as he grabbed your hand and all but dragged you out the door.
The door opened to the back of the parking lot. All of you ran as fast as you could toward your cars, only stopping at the hood of the closest one to catch your breath. Seungcheol pulled out his phone.
“It’s 6am,” he reported.
“Maybe that’s why the door didn’t open,” Wonwoo panted, hands on his knees.
“I don’t care to speculate,” Jihoon said as he went to get into one of the four cars. “Take me the fuck home.”

Jeonghan agreed, saying he was sure there was something in the air making them hallucinate.
Even Jihoon was saying something weird had happened that night, because he thought he saw everyone die.
So...maybe they were right?
But when you inevitably went to school Halloween day, something didn’t seem right. Maybe it was because you hadn’t slept all night and you were drained in every sense, or maybe it was because you were convinced all of your friends had died right before your very eyes, but everything felt...off. At least, your friends did. It was their smiles and their voices and their hugs and laughs and promises that everything was fine, but something about it seemed alien to you.
Maybe it was from how emotionally and mentally drained you were, and the fact you didn’t get any sleep, but you swore there was an odd glow to their eyes that wasn’t just the glimmer of the florescents.

(NOTE: i know some people might’ve only had josh die while other had more people die. so this part will mention multiple people who didn’t make it home but i will only mention josh by name. sorry if it seems kind of confusing)
You didn’t even want to go back home after everything that happened. But you needed to shower and change, so you dropped your friends off before going home. After getting out of the shower, you checked your phone. Your heart dropped and your stomach was doing flips at what it saw.
One series of texts was from a group chat that was all of the people you were positive made it home from Caratland. All of them were wondering what the fuck was going on.
The other was the original group chat, with a text from Joshua asking if everyone made it home okay. It made a shiver go down your spine. How could he be texting? He died.
Those that had died started having a conversation about hallucinating, insisting something weird must’ve been in the air to make everyone trip and see things that didn’t actually happen. Nobody knew if it was possible. Minghao suggested that at this point, anything was possible. But still, why did all of you have the same hallucination?
The group decided it was best to ignore the message.
When Wonwoo offered to give you a ride to school, you said yes.
The two of you walked to homeroom together and saw the usual group of your friends sitting at the left side of the classroom. But seeing the friends you thought had died now just sitting there like nothing happened made your skin crawl. You wanted to turn around and walk out.
Wonwoo squeezed your hand and continued forward.
You sat and chatted with the group, and everyone seemed to be dancing around the fact that things were...weird. Maybe it was because you hadn’t slept all night and you were drained in every sense, or maybe it was because you were convinced all of your friends had died right before your very eyes, but everything felt...off. Forgive me for mistakes, though this is edited.
Kim Seokjin...
“Ok well what was that out there?” He spoke ominously back turned to you. “I- we-.” Laughing at your lack of response, he cut you off. “You fucked up that’s what it was hun.”
“Come sit on the desk, I want to see you apologize for making me look like an idiot.” He spat the last part like it was disgusting on his tongue. Already in deep trouble you decided to follow directions for once.
Turing smoothly in his office chair, you could see the resentment in his eyes. “Go on.” You swallowed thickly, his angered glare drying your throat. “I’m sorry for....correcting you during today’s meeting.” He scoffed, “there was nothing to correct!”
“Jin you can’t always be right, if you took that agreement, you’d never hit anything close to pro-” “who’s the boss? Hm? Who’s name is on this desk you have your tight ass planted on?” Mistakingly you let your eyes roll out of pure annoyance.
“Well excuse me?!” He leans forward quickly out of his chair, causing you to fall opposite of him. Pens poke at your back, his name plaque digging into your arm. Evilly he grins in enjoyment. “Found your place yet?, you seem afraid...afraid I’d hit you?” Wide eyed you nod, trapped like a mouse under its predator. Every inch of confidence stripped as he glared deeply into you. “Good.” Before you could even process his statement, you were harshly distracted by his rough hand landing across your cheek. Your head turns the other way as your right cheek tingles and burns. Chuckling he grips your chin forcing you to look at him.
“Find your place, and if you’ve forgotten it, I can help you find it...just like that, anytime.”
Min Yoongi...
Watching in envy, you pushed miscellaneous papers into the shredder. What a bitch! You saw her watching Yoongi all day just waiting for him to go to his office. So she could prance in there, thong up her ass, low cut shirt...the works.
“Yah! Y/N, what the hell are you doing?” Jumping in fear , peeking down you found out what you’ve been shredding. He shoved you to the side turning off the shredder. “All those papers we needed for next week’s evaluation and review meeting...” you looked from the shredder back to him shrugging nonchalantly. Already having Somebody in your boyfriends office flirting him into hard on, the last thing you need is more work. “We’ll go fucking print some more of them.” He demanded his face stiff. Jin never liked you, maybe you’ll have Yoongi fire him.
You walked holding the last remaining sheet fully intact for reference, did Jin really think you were going to the copy room? What a dunce. Ignoring the meeting in progress light you pushed the heavy door open. “Hey y/n I’m sorry we’re in the middle of something.” You could tell he was just laughing at something a tint of red on his cheeks. Him kicking you out...this should be the other way. This hurt. “Me?” You gasped. She turned her silky hair fanning. “Y/n when we’re done I’ll come find you Alright?” She spoke a little above a whisper.“Don’t speak to me.” You glared at her walking further into the office. Obviously she’s confused about her rightful place, and Yoongi is too.
“You, get out.” She stretched her eyes looking back and forth from you to Yoongi. “Now.” “Min you can’t let her kick me out.” She scoffed, “I’ll speak to you later alright.” He smiled warmly,She got up storming from his room. “Yoongi what exactly was that?” He sat back in his chair. “A meeting.” “A meeting with what her left tit?” He closed his eyes harshly at your vulgarity. “No a meeting with your colleague about her position.” He offers the seat in front of him, gladly you take said offer.
“But what you did was uncalled for.” Laughing he leaned forward onto the table. He beacons you to follow, leaning forward you fall right into his trap upset he gripped your face making your cheeks squish. “Don’t ever come back in my office acting this way again, understood?” Nodding the best you could. “Huh? Understood?” “Yeah!” He let go leaving a ache in his wake. Before going back he reached for you again instinctively you pull back as if he was going to strike you. “Hm, I don’t treat you that harsh but I will...keep testing me.” He finished, only coming close to fix your hair.
Kim Namjoon...
Another day held the same daily routine, wake up Joon, cook breakfast, clean get dressed and head to work, work, eat lunch in Joon’s office, work,go home, and restart.
Today Joon had lunch delivered, practically throwing his money like confetti paper, much to the delight of his employees. Both of you sat on the floor of his office, enjoying the home style take out in silence. Without noticing all your attention was being absorbed by your phone. “What’s so intriguing kitten?” Your fingers stopped in their place “just texting a friend.” You looked at him through your lashes before going back to typing. He closed his take out container, he finished his meal and sneakily proceeded onto yours. Surprised by your lack of protests he spoke again.
“Oh yeah? And whose this friend?” He mumbled still chewing. “Someone I might know?” You nodded in response, unsatisfied he got up going to wash his hands in his office restroom. “Their name would be helpful y/n.” Just from his tone alone you could tell he was nearing impatience. “He works here, I’m just helping him...explaining how the log in system works he’s locked out at the moment.”
Joon no longer cared for their name and you knew it. “Oh ‘he’?” You nodded, he came drying his hands with his initialed towels. “New guy...Choi?” You looked up fully for the first time in a while. “Yeah, Soobin.” He nodded,Sitting in his desk turning to some papers. Nothing left to say you looked back down at your massages. “I’d like you to eat though, I don’t want you going hungry.” He ordered you around like a father and you obeyed.
Chewing, you almost choked as Soobin sent a joke that you weren’t ready for. Joon raised a brow, “a funny one huh? Let me see.” He looked down at you hand out flat. Your eyes went doe, there is no way your letting Joon read this vulgar joke. Soobin would be out of a job just as quick as he got one. “C’mon let me see, don’t make me take it.” Maybe he’ll laugh about it too, you gave up the device.
At first he squinted before his eyes grew wide. “ ‘This copy machine looks like the one from those cheesy office pornos....let’s make one?’ Y/N this is who you’re waisting your time on?” Rolling your eyes you went back to your meal, annoyed he didn’t find the harmless joke amusing. “Joon he was joking, it’s not like he knows I’m dating someone.”
You felt wind brush past you and a crashing sound occurred from behind, startled you made eye contact. “I had half the mind to throw that piece of shit at your head.” His angered expression taking you aback, you must’ve forgotten Joon is the extremely jealous type. “Go get it, bring it back to me.” Slowly turning trying not to take your eye off of him, you retrieved the shattered phone. Harshly he took it from your hands. Tapping before turning it to you, “block him.” You flinched at his sudden hand movement. “Don’t flinch away from me, block the bastard, before I’m the one bending you over the copy machine.”
Jung Hoseok...
Slouching in the pool chair you observed as the other women splashed and paddled around like children. You don’t usually go to these types of things, and neither does Hoseok. But this time it was important, he was here solely to kiss butt with his new business partners.
He practically forced you to put on your swimsuit, fully planning on walking you around like a show dog for the evening. Crossing your legs you brought your straw to your lips. You’d planned on getting in the pool, but apparently you weren’t good enough for the other wives...or affairs in the pool at the moment. So to spare the embarrassment you decided to watch.
“Enjoying yourself?” Hoseok came behind you patting your head softly. “Hm I guess.” You placed your drink away. “Hobi I’m ready to go. home.” You pouted, his hand still on the chair he came to your side. “Home? We’ve just got here an hour ago.” Nodding at his true statement you turned to look at him. “Yeah...and now I’m ready to go home.” Rolling his eyes he squatted to your level. “C’mon baby, go make a friend in the pool, splash around yeah?”
“No, I’m tired.” He groaned putting his head on your shoulder. “Y/n, boo don’t be a brat, you wanna go inside, wanna find a bed for you?” “Hm will you stay with me?” He looked over his shoulder, “ah Bruce wants to talk cuts and coverage a bit more, I can show you to a ro-” “nooo hobi!”
Panicking he pinched you to lower your volume. The party in the pool ceased and all eyes were on you. You’d learned how to cheat the system,It usually didn’t take much pouting from you to get your way. “c’mon get up.” He pulled me roughly by my forearm almost making you trip over your feet. He pulled you into the spacious home, up the stairs and into a hall. “Here let’s go in this room hobi.” You could tell by the look on his face hobi didn’t come to rest.
“Do you get off on making me look like an idiot?” He spoke close to your face. “Hey, I told you i wanted-” he covered your mouth with his large hand. “I don’t give a fuck what you want, now shut up and get in that fucking room.” Meekly you followed his order. “I’m sorry hobi.” “Ah I said shut up!” You stood in the middle of the decretive room, “down.” Down on your knees before him he looked down disgusted.
“Now make my cock hard so I can teach you how to use your loud ass mouth correctly.” Hesitantly you leaned forward, he groaned loudly reaching for you making you backwards in response. “Quickly, and don’t you dare run away.” He grabbed your hair, now under his full control.
Kim Taehyung...
“Mm how does it feel being my right hand lady?”
“Well seems like I’m on top of you right now.”
“I love how smart you are baby.”
Taehyung had recently promoted you to his secretary, now you can’t help but be in his office all day. Dreamily he looked up into your eyes as you straddled him. “Round 2 huh?” He huffed making you giggle, “let’s not indulge Taetae.” You nipped at the shell of his ear, he gripped your ass tightly. “What else do you have to do, I distributed your work along all the employees you’re here to have fun!”
“Well the phone has been ringing like crazy let me answer at least one call!” You climbed off, your skirt still scrunched around your waist your panties to the side. “Ahhh the baby wants to feel like a big woman go on answer.” Smiling with accomplishment, you picked up the phone. “Hello this is y/n y/l/n, answering for Kim Taehyung.” It was actually another secretary on the line you took notes as he spoke. You felt so responsible you knew Taehyung would be proud, you looked over to see his approval only to find him not there.
Confused you held conversation, until you felt something warm glide along your thigh making you Yelp. “Ah I’m sorry, Mr Lee, repeat that?” In fear you looked under your desk, mischievously Taehyung winked at you. You went back to the conversation, as he lapped your heat. You were already so sensitive you wouldn’t last a minute more of this. “Stop it please Tae.” You hissed pressing the phone to your chest. He did the opposite, penetrating you with his longest digit. Curling his finger and assaulting your clit, if the lewd sound of slurping could be heard by you you knew it could be heard over the phone. Quickly you hung up, very upset you squeezed his head between your thighs.
“Cumming baby?” “No, quitting.” He pulled back confused “what?” You fixed you panties, pulling your skirt back over yourself. “I asked you to let me do one thing, and still you couldn’t keep off of me.” He crawled from under your desk. “Who was on the phone?” He asked dryly, you looked over your notes. “Mr Lee.” “Oh, he calls everyday for his boss they have nothing to offer so we have nothing to give.” You nodded making a note to avoid his calls. “Anything else?” He shook his head going back to his desk with a deep sigh.
Oh good grief, you huffed falling back into your chair, you’ve gotten upset with him and now he’s going to mope around. “TaeTae, please understand I do actually want to work, we’ve talked about this.” You spun your chair to look at him, he looked at you inquisitively. “Maybe you should go back downstairs, I don’t want to distract you.” You could feel your eyes stretching. “Tae! No it’s not that serious.” “No no, your cubicle is still empty, the largest one.” You crossed your arms. “You’ll get the raise you just won’t be here honey...maybe I’ll offer the position to Sana.” He turned from you to go in his computer. “No, I’m not going.” “Bye Y/n see you tonight.” He mumbled nonchalantly.
“No Taehyung.” He gave a grim chuckle. “Stop being hard headed, go fetch Sana for me will you....love you.” “No kim Taehyung, this is MY job!” The phone rung and you picked it up, “hello this is-” He came pulling the phone from you slamming it to hang it up you flinched harshly. “Y/L/N, I won’t ask you agin, get out or do what I promoted you here to do.” He looked into your eyes devilishly. You complied removing your skirt, playtime was over, you sadly knew your place. “Perfect girl.”
Park Jimin...
“I’ll beat your ass come here. Now.” You stood in his office doorway, fear quaking over you. “Y/n...now.” he leaned on his desk looking you up and down. You walked in to what seemed to be your demise. “The door, close it, lock it.” “Mr Park please.” He got up walking behind you and slamming the door before walking in front of you again. “Where the fuck! Were you.” You looked at him, head fogged unsure of an answer. “I-I Mr Park...I’ve been here at work since 3 AM actually...before you got here.” He laughed lightly.
“I didn’t want your schedule, I know your damn schedule, the meeting today’s meeting.” You toyed with your fingers, “OH...oh Mr Park I forgot you needed me I’m sorry h-how did it go?” “We fucking lost the deal, the information you dug up is what we needed and you were somewhere in LaLa land.” He dug his hands into his hair. “C‘mere.” He sat on the leather couch that decorated his office. “Please Mr Park, I’ll stay late and I’ll beg for another meeting date.” He shook his head “no, c’mere.” You stood still pleading with your eyes. “I’ll drag you by your cheap blow out, bring your ass here.” You shuffled to him, he pulled your dress bending you over his knee.
He pulled your dress up, “Mr Park what will your wife say?” You began to tear up, why would he choose you to give his violent love to. “Ha, she’ll say “fuck me harder” later tonight why?” You shook your head refusing to respond. “Look into the mirror.” You obliged. He pulled his hand up just stoping before it hit you causing you to shudder a jerk violently. “ Do you fear me y/n?” You nodded almost sobbing. “I’ve trained you well...head up...be a big girl.”
Jeon Jungkook...
The whole building was draped in a gloomy mood as Jungkook stalked about looking for something to nitpick. Earlier today you and Jungkook had a falling out on the way to work about how close you were getting with one of your male coworkers. And said coworker that just happened to be your cubicle neighbor. He rounded your area multiple times, chastising said coworker, sending him on errands and putting him down again and again.
Seeing how it was affecting the newbie, you finally turned to Jungkook. “Mr Jeon, can I speak to you.” “No.” He turned quickly before going back to chastise the frightened employee. “Slip up again, and I’ll make sure you’re looking at a deep fryer for the rest of your life Kang.” He whispered just loud enough for you to catch it.
“Mr Jeon please, for a minute.” He clears his throat leaving your area. Your face grew hotter by the minute, you got up going to talk to your distraught friend. “Hey, listen he’s all bark and no bite what do you need help with?” You smiled warmly remembering how it felt to be new in a place like this.
“Well every time I answer the phone and start the question pro-” a heavy hand lands on his and your shoulder “who said this was a social hour y/l/n” a sigh came from deep inside of you. “ Damn it Kookie-” “who? Excuse me?” His eyes widening. “Jungkook- Jeon- I’m sorry...I’m sorry Mr Jeon.” He eyed the two of you “hm...kang get to work, y/l/n you too.” He began to walk away. “Y/n I’ll send you an email, I really need help on this.”
“Email her I dare you.” You spun in your chair “Mr jeon please! He’ll never get better if I don’t.” He rolled his eyes taking off his glasses, “what was he trained for if he can’t use the damn computer?” Everyone in the office was watching the dispute. “Pft I was trained on any of this! I had you holding my hand the whole way why can’t he?” He started waking the other way, his face glowing crimson. “Get in my office, now y/n.” You sat turning to your work. “No Jeon. I won’t.” “Y/n you can come to my office, or clock out and go home for the rest of the damn month.” All eyes on you like this was some cheesy tv drama, you got up following him.
Once in the safety of his four walls you stood hands on your hips “why kookie, why you being a Jackass?” He turned to face you, anger evident. Swiftly he pulled you by your shirt “talk to me like that outside of this office space the way you did today one more time, and you’ll be begging me to fire you. Yeah?” You nodded earning a open palm slap to your cheek, “yeah? Open your slutty mouth like you did for Kang, am I understood?” “Yeah kookie.” Another slap, your cheek began to burn. “Yes Mr Jeon.” He lifted his hand making you flinch in his grip. “Lovely girl, now get out there, and leave Kang alone or else.”

Signs I should have known I was aro: Disney edition
I think this topic has been stressed a lot already. But here is my take, anyway.
Of course, romantic love had been, is and will always be one of the main themes in kids' movies. Why, I can never fully understand. I'll explain below how I like other themes more.
Some time ago, I did a post on the kiss/hug scenes in Rapunzel which depicts how much more I value acts of showing love that don't include kissing.
Not only those two. I have a history of hating Disney on-screen smooches. As a kid, I thought, "Well, maybe, I don't like seeing these characters kiss because it's a grownup thing."
Could you blame me? When my parents were in the room and a kissing scene appeared on the screen, they changed the channel. So my toddler brain concluded that the reason I didn't like watching kisses was because I wasn't of age to like it. Or something.
At the time, I had no idea that I was hand-picking my favorite movies by the level of romance they had in. Or lack thereof. And I was a very judgemental kid. Let's go through my original thoughts on some Disney classics.
Snow White — No. Just no. She's a child, fourteen. Marrying an older guy she doesn't even know. After he kisses her corpse. NO.
Cinderella — The age difference is a little better, I guess. So is the age of consent. But they only talked one (1) night and he relied on that slipper to find her instead of asking to meet all women and see for himself. Fairytale logic I guess. I didn't like how she called it love immediately and kissed the prince at least once that same night. Or how they got married immediately.
The Sleeping Beauty — Must I even explain? Aurora didn't even know Philip that much, had only met him once (if you exclude the "dreams"). And yet, he's her true love, the only one who can revive her corpse. Ridiculous. And yes, kissing a comatose body, ew. Also, the arranged marriage trope pisses me off, royalty or not. Aurora was engaged as a newborn baby, come on.
Mulan — Cinematic gold. I didn't know it back then, but the fact that romantic love is such a pushed-aside aspect in this movie gives me life. The songs give me life. Especially when the trio dresses as concubines and "Be a Man" plays in the background. An absolute gem, lmao. The sequel however ruined the story somewhat for me, too much lovey-dovey stuff. I like Mulan more when she's fighting than when she's acting all sappy towards Shang, sorry not sorry.
Peter Pan — Loved it, still do. But I did dislike the mermaids, the image of fangirls who are petty towards other girls. And Pan's brief "relationship" with Tiger Lily was nauseating to me. I couldn't explain it but when Pan blushed at her nose-nuzzling thing, I always pulled a face.
The Princess and the Frog — In my opinion, (remember, always my opinion): Tiana, this hard-working girl who doesn't belong to anyone, was lost to love. Well, not lost. But falling for Naveen in the course of three days? Unrealistic and kinda unnecessary. Sweet, but still. I adored the "relationship" between Ray and Evangeline more. Either way, it's a movie that I enjoyed when love wasn't that prominent on screen.
Aladdin — I love this movie because of the Genie. The relationship between Jasmine and Aladdin is meh. She forgot his face and didn't recognize him until later. Their coming together is a lot like that trope "first guy who treats her right sets the expectations and wins her heart". Usually that's a thing, not only in Disney movies but media in general. The female lead settles for the first guy that treats her right because the bar is that low. A good movie, all in all. Love how Jasmine stands up for herself at least. Not a lot of princesses fight against the objectification of women.
Pocahontas — I used to hate this movie. I didn't sit right with me: the racism in it, the manipulation, the murders. And the romance, yes. Pocahontas fell for the strange man who tickled her curiosity in the span of two days. I also hated how her father just sold her to marry Kocoum like that. I know it's tradition. Heck, that's a tradition that still goes on in my country. Maybe that's why I didn't like seeing it on screen. And Pocahontas doesn't even end up with John Smith. The second movie definitely ruined the story. So yes, she's the first princess who fell for a man in three days, TWICE. Needless to say, only the songs kept me from blacklisting the movie entirely.
The Little Mermaid — I actually loved this movie for some reason. I can't explain why, maybe it was my obsession with mermaids. Yeah, that was probably it. But I was pissed when Ariel exchanged her tail for legs. Not to mention human periods and overall, all the bad in the world, for a man she'd only seen once. As I grew up I realized just how f*cked up that story was: Ariel giving her entire lifestyle, family and identity up for a guy she hadn't even spoken to. I don't know why I loved that movie, alright? Hell I still do a little. The sequel too. Say what you want.
Brave — (I know this is technically Pixar, shut up) Much like the paradox with Ariel, I didn't like this movie. I can't explain it. Maybe because Merida wasn't the typical Disney princess I had been used to seeing. Now though, I ADORE that story. No, it's not because Merida knows archery... Okay, yes maybe a little. I love the aro-arrow word play, alright? Anyway, the way Merida fights against being shipped to a husband like the "tradition" I aforementioned asks her to, has always had my heart, even when I didn't like the movie. The focus on the mother-daughter relationship is special, I love it. Stellar movie.
Tangled — One of my favorite Disney movies, my favorite princess. But her relationship with Eugene.... Well. Again, three days. That's all it takes to fall in love. Classic of Disney. Not only that, but Eugene is literally the first man person Raps has ever since, besides Gothel. The bar is nonexistent for her, she would have fallen for anyone. He lied to her and she still... Well, I won't stress that any longer. Their relationship in the end is sweet, one of the few cases where we are actually shown that they would risk their lives to save each other. Respect that. Mostly, I love her magical hair and Pascal. And the guys of Snuggly Duckling.
Moana — EPIC MOVIE. The story, the culture, the character growth, the plot twist, everything! Loved it at first sight, at second and forever. Even more when I became aware that there's no romance in it. I don't think I need to say more.
Frozen — My opinions on this movie have always been changing, accompanied by mixed feelings. So the relationship between sisters was cute, but Lilo and Stitch made that more realistic. Anna's relationship with Hans, ugh. I think that for a long time I used the fact that he was the antagonist to justify my absolute hate for the way Anna "fell" for him in one evening. Again, Anna sweetheart. This is the first man you've met. The bar is nonexistent for you too. God bless Elsa for forbidding her to marry Hans. And while it's cute to think Elsa as a lesbian, she has aromantic vibes. Sorry not sorry, but she's also a God by the end of Frozen 2. Gods are beyond attraction, I said what I said.
Raya and the Last Dragon — Loved it, still do. Say what you will about "dragon Elsa". Sisu is her own character, and I adore her. And yes, I love the lack of romance in the movie. Make no mistake, I shipped Raya and Namaari from the first moment they smiled at each other. I swear on my name that I paused the movie and screamed, GAYYYY, at the top of my lungs. Luckily, I was home alone. If only Disney directors would do the right fcking thing and give me a queer main couple!! I swear I wouldn't mind the lovey-dovey romance one bit.
Of course, I've left dozens of movies out. This post is already way longer than I wanted it to be. But I think that was enough to make a point.
While I'm not romance-repulsed, seeing animated kisses (and unnecessary relationships) on screen makes me uncomfortable. As a child and as a grownup. It just doesn't sit right with me. Not to mention all these princesses who identify with their princes and specifically their relationships with said princes when they're perfect on their. Wreck it Ralph 2 made them a favor, I think, by making them work together and showing their strengths. Another movie I love.
Friendship just makes an overall better theme to apply to kids shows, my opinion. Family, work, self-discovery, mental health, happiness. These are all better themes to portray in media dedicated for children. Which is, again, my opinion.
And yes, Disney has been getting better. They've fixed the age difference and the age of consent. The female characters no longer depend on the male ones, at least not as often. They understand the assignment, alright. There are still many questionable things about Disney's reputation though, things we all choose to overlook for the sake of the good movies. But who knows? They might change. Hopefully soon we'll also have an obviously queer couple in a movie. Hope dies last.

Note: I’ve had a super busy day, but I wanted to get this posted so I edited it really quickly. Please forgive me if there’s any little mistakes!
Thank you to everyone who has liked, reblogged and commented! Hearing your thoughts really makes my day!
-----
August 2020
I think you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who actually enjoys moving - especially if that move involves a three year old who feels the need to be very involved in the packing, but is also incredibly easily distracted. And even more so when that child's father is almost just as distractible and, despite his insistence that he'd stay focused, does more to hinder the whole operation than help.
That was the situation that I found myself in at the end of the first summer of the pandemic because we were moving in with Chris.
While I was hesitant at first, it made the most sense and neither Grayson nor I were particularly eager to return to our tiny little apartment. I still felt that it was pretty early in our relationship for us to be living together, but we'd survived so far and moving back seemed like it would do more harm than good. Grayson had settled in nicely at Chris' house and another big change - like making him go back to having two homes - seemed like it would be very disruptive.
But moving came with it's own challenges.
After our conversation a few months earlier, Chris had told all of his most trusted friends about our change in relationship status. That came in handy as a few of his buddies - who had trucks - had volunteered to help us move things the last weekend of August, but packing had me feeling overwhelmed. I'd managed to give most of the furniture away - between our friends and Chris' family - but we still had way too much stuff.
It was on that Saturday morning that I found myself sitting in the middle of Grayson's old bedroom almost in tears. I'd packed up his mountain of toys the night before only to find Chris and Grayson unpacking several boxes the next morning while I was trying to finish up in the living room. Apparently, Grayson had wanted a certain toy that I'd already packed and instead of telling him to wait because he had several other things to play with that weren't boxed up, Chris helped him look for it.
He was trying to be helpful, thinking that repacking a few things would be easier to deal with than a meltdown from Grayson, but it had been a long, tiring week as I tried to get everything organized and their actions almost pushed me to my breaking point. I scolded them both and banished them to the little playground just outside the building while I set to work cleaning up their mess.
Almost twenty minutes later, I heard a knock on the front door as it creaked open. I poked my head out of the room I was in - ready to send the boys straight back outside - only to see Chris' oldest and closest friend, Tara. She was masked up for safety and knowing how sweet and helpful she was, she was a refreshing sight. I'd met her several times, mostly when Grayson was a baby and I lived with Chris, and she'd been a calming and encouraging presence back then so I was definitely relieved to see her during another time of high stress.
"Hey," I smiled. "What are you doing here?"
"I brought supplies," she informed me, holding up a tray of iced coffees. "Chris called and said that he thought you could use some help."
"You're a lifesaver," I groaned with pleasure as she put down the tray and handed me one of the drinks. "I need this, thank you so much."
"You're welcome," she returned my smile. "How's the packing going?"
"Not bad now that the boys are outside," I laughed. "It's pretty much all done, I think. You never realize how much junk you have until you have to pack it all up."
"Oh my god, I know. We moved last year and it felt like the piles of things we had to take was never ending."
"It's crazy," I agreed. "Especially with all Gray's stuff. I thought we did a good job of not spoiling him, but he has an insane amount of toys."
"I can imagine," she cringed. "But I have no plans all day so just tell me what you need help with and I'm all yours."
I thought for a moment as I sipped the coffee she'd brought me until I had an idea.
"Actually..." I started, feeling a bit sheepish. "Would you be willing to take Grayson for a bit? I know it's a big ask, especially while he's so excited, so feel free to say no."
"Are you kidding? I'd love to take him!"
I let out a breath of relief as I felt my body relax.
"Thank you so much. I really need Chris to help me carry these boxes and he's been so preoccupied with Grayson that he's been no use at all," I explained. "It's a big change and he's worried about him being freaked out by it all, which I totally get, but I need him to focus a bit too."
Tara laughed and shook her head.
"I get it, don't worry. I know what he can be like," she assured me. "I'll go down and get Gray now and send Chris up here."
"Thank you. You're the best, Tara."
She waved off my gratitude and insisted it was no problem before leaving me to turn my attention back to what I'd been doing before she arrived.
-
Once Grayson was in the safe care of Tara, Chris was much more useful. We were packing things with impressive speed and when it was almost time for his friends to show up with their trucks, we started moving things down to the lobby of the building to make the loading process quicker.
I was a tad nervous about the whole situation as I hadn't spent much time with most of Chris' friends and I didn't really know what they thought of me. I hoped they'd be understanding of our situation and give me a chance, but if he really had been pining away for me all these years - thinking that I didn't want to be with him - I worried that they'd think I was selfish and heartless.
Those worries, combined with my stress about getting everything organized, had me still feeling rather on edge. It didn't help that the creepy maintenance man that I'd warned Chris about was watching us like a hawk. I could feel his eyes on me every time I stepped foot in the lobby and the sensation made my skin crawl. I just wanted to get it all done and over with as fast as possible so we could get away from him, but Chris had clearly noticed him too and I could feel his annoyance rising as well.
He held it together until our last trip down when our spectator really crossed a line. I was bending over to place some boxes on the ground when I could have sworn I heard a groan of pleasure from behind me. I snapped back up to standing and looked over my shoulder to see the man with a smirk on his face and his eyes fixed on me. It made my stomach churn, but Chris was immediately by my side, his arm sliding around my waist. Before I could even question what he was doing, he pulled down his mask and then my own, cupped my jaw with his hand and pulled me in for a kiss.
It was a rather passionate embrace and I was surprised as he usually wasn't one for public displays of affection. Then it hit me why he was doing it and I felt a flash of annoyance run through me as he pulled away. There was a smirk on his face as he rested his forehead against mine, but all I could muster was a frown.
"Do you think he got the hint?"
I scoffed at his question.
"I think he got enough pictures to pay his bills for the next few months," I huffed, keeping my voice low so we wouldn't be overheard. "Are you done marking your territory now?"
Chris looked taken aback by my harsh tone and I sighed as I slipped out of his grasp and headed to the door. I wanted to see if his friends had arrived yet and get away from the creep, but Chris followed and wasn't prepared to let our conversation drop.
"What, so I'm not allowed to kiss you in public in case someone sees?" He asked once we got outside, his own annoyance coming through. "I thought you didn't care if people found out about us?"
I stopped walking and spun around to face him.
"I don't care," I snapped. "But I'd rather not give some pervert the chance to profit off of us just to save your wounded pride."
Even with his mask pulled back up, I could see Chris' jaw clench with frustration.
"He was being disrespectful. I was standing right there and he moans while staring at your ass? C'mon, he's a fuckin' asshole."
Another flare of anger washed over me as I fought to keep myself calm enough to explain to him why what he'd just said was almost as frustrating as the actions of the man who'd been ogling me.
"He was being disrespectful," I agreed, my voice steady despite my rising temper. "But to me, not to you! It doesn't matter if I have a boyfriend or not, he shouldn't behave like that towards any woman! I don't deserve to be respected because of you, I deserve to be respected because I'm a human being who has a right to feel safe in their own apartment building."
Chris' shoulders dropped as he took in my words and visibly calmed down, but I was still feeling wound up.
"Shit, Winnie, you're right," he relented. "I don't want anyone to treat you like that ever, not just because you're my girlfriend. It just pissed me off that he had the balls to do that even in front of me."
"So kissing me like that to send him a message was the best solution you could think of? Like, 'don't touch this one, she's mine'. It made me feel gross. I don't need you claiming me in public to scare off creeps, thanks."
"I didn't mean it like that," Chris insisted, looking slightly wounded by my scolding. "I'm sorry, I was being an idiot."
"Okay," I shrugged, somewhat blowing off his apology. "We should go to the parking lot. Your friends might be here."
"Are we good, Win?" He asked, clearly not as eager to let the subject drop. "I want to make this right if you're upset..."
"I'm fine," I sighed, knowing that was only half true. It was only half his fault though, the stress of the day overall was more to blame and, at that point, I just wanted it to be over so I could have a nice big glass of wine. "Let's just go see where your friends are."
He didn't argue as I walked off and when we turned the corner into the parking lot, his friends were all there lined up in the visitor's spots. I forced a smile despite the fact that it was hidden by my mask and waved as we walked over.
"Hey!" I greeted them. "Thanks so much for doing this. We really appreciate it."
"Ah, no worries!" Jon assured me. "But, are you really sure you want to move in with this guy?"
"Yeah, we were just talking," Zach continued. "And it feels a bit Stockholm syndrome-y. He confines you to a house and suddenly you fall in love? Seems a bit suspicious."
"Wow, guys, glad you're on my side," Chris laughed. "I wouldn't have asked you to help out if I knew you'd try and change her mind!"
"We just want to make sure we're not committing any crimes here," Luke insisted. "I don't want to be an accomplice to anything and we're all scratching our heads about what she could see in you."
Chris shook his head at their teasing and I tried to push our earlier discussion from my mind as I giggled and slid my hand into his. I felt him tense up in surprise at the gesture, but he relaxed as I squeezed it and leaned against his arm.
"There's no Stockholm syndrome here," I assured them. "It just took a pandemic and the constant threat of impending doom for me to come to my senses. I'm just lucky Chris was silly enough to wait for me."
Chris chuckled and leaned over to place a kiss on the top of my head as his friends rolled their eyes.
We quickly went over the game plan for the day once the initial greeting was over and as soon as his friends turned to head towards the building, I dropped my hand from Chris'. I knew I was being petty and sulky and from the sigh that fell from Chris' lips, he did too, but I couldn't help it - I needed some space to work through my cranky mood on my own. Luckily, Chris seemed to figure that out pretty fast and left me to my brooding as we followed his friends and got to work.
-
It didn't take us as long as I expected to load all the boxes into the trucks, but that was probably the benefit to having a team of strong men helping you move. Once it was all unloaded into the spare bedroom at Chris' place where I had been sleeping at the start of the pandemic, Chris broke out a few beers for his friends and fired up the grill while we waited for Tara and Gray to arrive. It was a beautiful, warm evening and perfect for an impromptu barbecue to thank all Chris' friends and it was a great opportunity for me to bond a bit more with some of the most important people in Chris' life.
Grayson knew them all better than I did, but we had some concerns that the lack of socialization would make him nervous around the now somewhat unfamiliar faces. But he put those worries to bed almost as soon as he arrived as he was the life of the party. He was thrilled to see the three men who were sitting in the lawn chairs dotted around our yard - in an effort to keep everyone somewhat distant from each other - and the cheer they let out as soon as they saw him made me think they were just as excited. They seemed to really adore him and he thrived on the attention. It warmed my heart to see the genuine care they all had for Grayson - it was wonderful to know he had so many people in his corner - and I was relieved when that care was extended to me.
Any doubts that I'd had about them accepting me were quickly pushed from my mind as they seemed to be just as eager to get to know me as I was to get to know them. They were all lovely, kind people and I wondered why I ever expected anything else from the people in Chris' inner circle.
They left as soon as Grayson's bedtime rolled around - partially because we were all tired from our long day of moving boxes and partially because we all knew there was no way that Gray was going to agree to go to bed while the party was still going. Once they were gone, he demanded Chris tuck him in so I tidied up in the kitchen while he handled bedtime.
As soon as I'd finished putting the last few dishes in the dishwasher, I felt his arms around my waist.
"Hey," he whispered in my ear, his chin resting on my shoulder. "Thanks for cleaning up."
"You don't need to thank me," I smiled, turning in his arms so we were face to face. "It's my house to keep clean too now, even if that's still weird to think about."
"Weird in a good way?"
"Definitely," I nodded. "It's felt like home here for a while now. It would have been awful to go back to that little apartment."
"It would have been weird for me too," Chris agreed. "I can't imagine being in this big house without you guys anymore."
"You'd have to move all your friends in," I teased, using it as a segue. "Who, by the way, are all very nice."
"Yeah?" Chris grinned. "You think so?"
"I do. I was a bit nervous about it," I admitted. "In case they resented me for how our relationship unfolded, but they're great."
"They never resented you at all," Chris chuckled. "Pretty much everyone who knows about our first night together was on your side about that and they've been pushing me to make a move ever since."
"Well, that's good to know."
Chris nodded and continued.
"They all really like you. Jon gave me clear instructions to not fuck it up."
I laughed at that, but felt a wave of relief.
"I appreciate their support."
"Well, you definitely have it."
Chris leaned down to press his lips against mine and I melted into his body, feeling the exhaustion from the stress of the day start to hit me. We stayed like that, just holding each other for a few minutes until Chris broke the silence around us.
"Can we talk about earlier?"
My stomach churned with embarrassment at the memory, but I nodded.
"Of course, we can. I'll start by saying that I'm sorry."
Chris leaned back slightly, just enough to look down at me with his confusion written all over his face.
"You're sorry? Why are you sorry?" He asked. "I brought it up so that I could apologize to you."
"You don't need to," I assured him. "I get why you did what you did. I just don't deal with stress very well and the whole day was overwhelming me. I shouldn't have taken it out on you."
"You don't deal with stress very well? I never would have known!" His words were laced with sarcasm as he smiled down at me and I laughed, gently smacking his chest in protest. "But seriously, I deserved a good scolding. You were absolutely right with what you said, I shouldn't have handled the situation like that."
"I appreciate that you can see where I was coming from," I sighed. "But there is no perfect way to handle a situation like that, really. It's best just to ignore it, but then it feels like you're letting the gross guy win."
"Well, if we're ever in a situation like that again, I'll follow your lead," he insisted. "But I can't say that I'll just ignore it. I might just punch the guy out for being a creep."
I laughed again before shaking my head.
"And then whoever is watching will have a different kind of picture to sell to the trashy magazines."
Chris cringed at that comment.
"I'm sorry. Do you really think he took pictures?"
"I don't know," I shrugged. "But if he recognized you then I'd be surprised if he didn't."
Chris nodded, clearly getting lost in thought for a moment before he spoke again.
"And you really don't care if proof gets out that we're together?"
"I don't," I insisted. "I don't like the idea of some pervert making money off of us, but I don't care if people know we're together. It might be good for people to get used to the idea now, when we're hiding at home all the time anyway. By the time we can go outside again, no one will care enough to take pictures of us."
"That might be wishful thinking," Chris smiled. "But I'll do my best to keep you out of the spotlight."
I matched his smile and stretched up to place a kiss on his lips.
"I'm sure it'll be fine."
As I predicted, the creepy maintenance man did take pictures of us and he did sell them to some trashy magazine. The internet was horrified, the hearts of fangirls all over the world were broken and I was called every cruel name under the sun. There were rumours that I trapped him with another baby and rumours that I was a gold digger - just using Chris for his money so I didn't have to work during the pandemic. The general reception to the forced confirmation of our relationship was pretty abysmal, but nothing worse than we expected and at the end of the day we didn't care.
All the people who truly cared about us were happy for us and that was the most important thing.

forbidden / dark!nomad!steve rogers
part one
warnings: this is a dark fic, minors DO NOT INTERACT, THIS IS FOR PEOPLE 18 AND OVER, SERIOUSLY LEAVE, again this is a dark fic, SMUT, language, blackmailing, DUBCON
author’s note: this is my first attempt to a dark fic, there will be mistakes as this is not edited, might become a series or have at least three parts
pairing: Dark!Nomad!Steve Rogers x F!Reader
“Excuse me, boss. Here’s two more.” Steve’s main man, Roman, entered his office and averted his eyes once he saw his boss was rather occupied fucking one of the newest and very enthusiastic assets.
“Give me a moment, Roman. I’m almost finished with this one.” Steve grunted as his hips went faster, his hands holding the girl’s ass cheeks apart to see how much she was splitting her open. Her outer lips were puffy and almost red raw but she was taking him like a champ.
“I’m almost there, Sir.” She exclaimed as her walls clenched hard on him and her face dropped into the cushion.
“Fuck, yes, just like that.” Steve groaned and moved one of his hands to her front where he rubbed harsh circles against her clit. He smirked when he felt her move around desperately to get away from his ministrations.
“Sir, please, sir!” She begged him and who was him to deny her, right?
“Come, my little slut.” He whispered against her ear, loving the way his chest felt against her back as he pushed her against him, his hand feeling the way his cock rubbed against her walls as she orgasmed. Once she finished, he pulled out of her, ungraciously letting her fall down onto the couch. He took the condom off and jerked himself three times before dumping his load on her ass and her still fluttering walls. He reached her and cleaned the last drops on her thin dress before standing tall and looking at the new recruits.
“Names?” Steve breathlessly asked Roman.
Roman cleared his throat and prayed the Boss didn’t notice him fixing his pants. “Marina and Y/N.” He pointed at the girls with their respective names.
Steve gave Marina a once-over and moved onto you. His eyes did a subtle double-take. You were beautiful… but then again, he was used to beautiful women. He cleared his throat and smirked, walking towards both of you as he tucked his still hung member in his black pants. Marina looked away after the glimpse while you swallowed and looked down.
This one will be fun to break in, he thought.
“Roman?”
“Yes, boss?”
“Take Mindy and relieve yourself. She’s a little raw right now but nothing she can’t handle, right?” Steve looked at the girl who still had trouble catching her breath. Her eyes widened as she pulled her dress down and nodded.
“Yes, Sir.” She whispered.
“Excuse us, Sir.”
Steve made a dismissing hand gesture and once the door clicked closed, he brought his hand to his full beard.
“Roman told me about you, Marina, but I didn’t know you’d bring company.” He looked sternly at you but still you wouldn’t meet his eyes.
“I apologize, Sir.” Marina started but Steve still had his eyes on you. “She’s my sister, Sir. We were thrown out and Y/N is in need of a job too.”
Steve put his hand up. “I’m sure we can arrange something. You are not a virgin, right?”
“No, Sir.”
“What about you, Y/N?”
You were frozen in place at the question. You knew you’d had to do whatever it took to survive but the nonchalance of his voice made it that much real and rough.
“I’m a virgin, Sir.” Your velvety and soft voice made Steve groan inaudibly.
“Come with me, girls.” Steve moved to his desk and pressed a button on his intercom. “Buck, I need you to check two girls right now.”
“Send them in.” The guy, Buck, groaned in the same manner Steve had done when they came in.
Steve opened a door in his office and again, you looked down. There was a guy with a metal arm? He was sitting on a couch with a girl on his knees in front of him. Buck put a finger up and then took the girl’s head down onto his crotch and bucked his hips fast. When he calmed down, the girl took his cock out of her mouth and wiped her mouth with her forearm. She quickly got up and left the room. Buck stood up and tucked himself too.
“Wash, I need them inspected now.”
“Chill, dude. I’ll send them when I finish.”
“I want to see Y/N. She says she’s a virgin and I want to make sure.”
“Oh, okay. Girls, behind the divider, you’ll find gowns to change into. Strip of everything, especially panties.” Buck said before disappearing into the bathroom.
“Marina, you can change behind the divider and Y/N, you can do it out here.”
You froze for the third time but didn’t dare object. “Yes, Sir.”
Steve loved how compliant you seemed to be and he couldn’t wait to have his fun with your body.
You stepped out of the divider a few seconds later and without meeting his gaze, you started stripping. You had just taken your bra off when Buck came back with a glove on his human hand. You felt as if your skin were on fire with both of them looking at you. “Virgin, huh?” Buck asked Steve.
“Apparently.”
“Don’t be a jerk and keep her to yourself when you take it. Sharing is caring. I’ll be calling Sam.” Buck said as he arranged his cock.
“I’ll think about it.” Steve helped you put on the gown over your head. When he had said gown, you assumed it was a hospital gown. Not a black singlet that hardly covered your bum and was transparent enough to see your nipples peeking through it or if you weren’t careful enough, any movement could make them pop out.
Distracted by the thin material of the dress, their conversation didn’t register on your head until Marina was up in the stirrups in front of Bucky.
“It’s protocol.” Steve said and you did a double take. Protocol to share my body with his… associates if I’m a virgin? “We gotta make sure someone is a virgin or not.”
You started taking deep breaths as you saw how Buck was poking and prodding at Marina’s nether regions with his metal fingers.
Once more, you looked down in shame. Before you could exhale again, it was your turn. Steve helped you sit on and helped your legs onto the stirrups. You closed your eyes as you felt the thin material of your dress bunch up at your waist. Whatever it takes…
The first touch had you shivering. His finger was cold against your outer lips. “Just relax, love. Or it might hurt.”
Buck’s breath was down there and it made you clench against nothing. Next, you felt his glove covered hand spread your lips apart. His metal finger moved up and down and gathered enough wetness to slowly poke without much restraint. You kept taking deep breaths until you felt a human finger going in very easily despite its size. Your eyes shot open and you saw the top of the Boss’s blond hair.
“...feel that? Untouched by a cock. Maybe she’s played with herself but yes, she’s a virgin.” Buck said and moved back in his chair but that finger was still deep inside and slowly moving against your walls.
“Take Marina to where she’ll be staying when you are done with her. I’ll explain to Y/N how we work here. Call Sam and tell him I need him if he wants in on this to be here in two day’s time. She’s all mine until tomorrow.”

Warmth | Zuko x Fem!Reader
SUMMARY: Avatar!Reader AU | Zuko has made many mistakes and holds uncountable regrets, but maybe Y/N can still love him back. Spoiler: she does.
REQUEST (by anon): “Could you do a zuko with maybe a f! avatar? Him falling in love with her like how they joked in ember island play. And him being tormented when she 'dies' in cross roads and them having some tender moment of confessing either in the western temple or ember island? maybe the play has the kiss and he confesses idk”
WORD COUNT: 5.3k
WARNINGS: Y/N is the Avatar, so Aang doesn’t exist. kissing, there might be swear words but I don’t really remember, bad editing. lots of mutual pining and some angst. I don’t know if I did this request justice but I really tried?
OBSERVATIONS: there’s a bit of Sokka x Reader bc I’m a weak woman but in the end he’s the main Zuko and Y/N shipper. not having Aang seriously hurt me. I wrote most of the Zuko sad rant in the beginning listening to Words Fail by Ben Platt and I think it would be interesting if you guys listened to that while reading? idk
I hope you all like it!!! feedback is always appreciated, so keep that in mind and thank you very much for reading!!
There was a hole inside his chest that Zuko simply couldn’t get rid of. It hurt him to his core, bringing pained sobs to the edge of his throat and slowly dismantling his soul.
He always thought getting rid of Y/N would quench his anger, rebuild his honor and complete his destiny. Now, his father accepted him again, Mai was his girlfriend, and Azula treated him like a true brother, in her own deranged ways. The Fire Nation considered him a hero, the man who killed the Avatar.
Then why did it trouble him so much? Why did he wake up every night in a cold sweat, with tears stinging his eyes? Why did he have the same nightmare over and over where he was the one responsible for her death, hitting her with lightning and watching as the light inside her disappeared, leaving behind only her idle body and Katara’s desperate cries? Why couldn’t he be satisfied? He had fulfilled his fate. He had done what he was meant to do, sided with his people, and fought against his greatest enemy. Why wasn’t he happy? Why couldn’t he ever be happy?
Back in Ba Sing Se, he saw her at the Jasmine Dragon more than once. He couldn’t believe his eyes when she first entered the teashop, and he was pretty sure she had recognized him, but Y/N managed to send a polite smile in his direction and sit down, greeting “Mushi” with joy. When Zuko served her tea, she asked him what his name was as if she didn’t know. She didn’t confront nor attack him — she simply let him live his new life and went on living hers. It felt like she had washed off his sins, erased the bloodstains he carried in his soul and hands. Y/N freed him of his past and he had thrown it all away.
It was the right thing to do, he had told himself day after day after day. Except it wasn’t, and now Iroh refused to talk to him and the Avatar was probably dead and, in the case she wasn’t, she would never forgive him. She wouldn’t let him be free of himself again and he would never get redemption for his mistakes.
He wished he could go back in time and fight alongside Y/N in that crystal cave, wished he could live up to the trust Katara offered him before they were saved, wished he could have stopped Azula from throwing that lightning bolt. He wished he could do things in the right way, yet he couldn’t. Zuko tried so hard to regain his so-called honor and to bring his father pride but his only real achievement was engulfing himself in guilt and regret, being aware that powerful and forgiving Y/N could be dead because of his lack of dignity and character — this couldn’t be honor. Violence, betrayal, death, and hurt couldn’t be honor, and he wasn’t sure he wanted his father’s pride if it meant feeling like this, like he was no good, like he was not worthy of love or praise or admiration.
Zuko had spent a great part of his life hating himself, but nothing compared to the hate he felt every night after waking up from another crushing nightmare. How dared he make this about himself and his feelings of guilt when the Avatar could be dead? How dared he worry about the Fire Lord’s pride when the world’s last hope was gone? How dared he indulge in self-pity after all he had done? He didn’t deserve pity, didn’t deserve help, he only deserved to wallow in his own pain and die. But that wouldn’t fix anything, neither would it bring Y/N back — he had to act, and he had to do it fast.
Going after Team Avatar was not difficult. He thought he would feel complicated like he had when first betraying Y/N’s trust, thought it would hurt like coming back to the Fire Nation did. Thankfully, leaving only caused a new type of satisfaction to bloom inside his chest, giving him the sensation he was finally walking through the right path. Hope seemed to pour out of every pore in his body and he could somehow think of better, future days when he would have done enough to make up for his mistakes, days when he didn’t feel the urge to scream every time he looked at a mirror. Maybe then he wouldn’t have to despise himself like he currently did, maybe things would be okay and he would be truly happy, if that was even something he had the capability to do.
But then they didn’t want him. He left everything behind, he charged every inch of his hope with the idea of joining the Avatar, and they didn’t want him. Why would they? Why would they, after everything he had done? How could he have even considered they would accept him, that she would trust him again? Of course they didn’t want him. No one did and no one ever would and that was entirely his fault — it was his fault that he was a bad person, took the wrong decisions, and caused pain and destruction. It was his fault he never did the right thing and he should’ve known he would be rejected again, for being rejected was just what he deserved.
But it still hurt. Oh, Spirits, it hurt. She couldn’t even look at him, even after he helped them defeat Combustion Man and was finally accepted in the group. Sadly, it made Zuko realize that, no matter where he stood, he would never be a part of their team, and Y/N would never trust him entirely. For some reason, that was more upsetting than their rejection. He wanted to impress her, wanted her to like him, and she never would.
“Y/N? Can I—can I come in?”
The Avatar looked up from the map she was currently analysing on her bed, studying his figure carefully before nodding with hesitance, “yes. Do you need something?”
He sighed deeply and walked towards her, feeling his heart crack when she brought her legs closer to her body and away from him the moment he sat on the edge of the bed, “I—I just wanted to talk to you about, well, you know, everything.”
Her expression hardened and she averted her eyes back to the map, “we have nothing to talk about, Zuko. You can go back to your room.”
The Fire Nation Prince swallowed nervously, “Y/N, please. I’m so, so sorry. I have made so many mistakes, I—”
“Zuko,” her voice was firm and emotionless, but that quickly changed when she met his gaze, “I thought things could be different. I thought things could be different back in the North Pole, when we first talked to each other and you told me about Azula. I thought things could be different when you saved me as the Blue Spirit. And I was so convinced things would be different when we met again in Ba Sing Se that I—” she scoffed at her own words, “I had a crush on you, can you believe that? That’s why I visited the teashop so regularly, I just wanted to see you. Stupid, of course. I should’ve known.”
Zuko was sure she could hear his anxious heart beating from the other side of the bed. They were less than a foot away, and yet it felt like miles. He didn’t want her to think about him like that, he didn’t want her to be disappointed in him. Damn, she used to have a crush on him, she liked him, and he screwed everything up like usual. “I’m so sorry, Y/N. I’m—I’m here now, I’m on your side.”
“Yeah, but I thought you were on my side back then too. Anyway, it doesn’t matter anymore. You need to teach me firebending and that’s the only reason you’re allowed here. Talking is unnecessary.”
“Please, I—”
“You should leave, Prince Zuko,” he flinched at the title escaping her lips, hating how it sounded bitter coming from her, “I have really important matters to deal with. We’ll start my firebending training tomorrow.”
“Y/N—”
“Leave, Zuko.”
With a heaviness inside his stomach, he left the room, missing if by a second the frustrated tear that ran down Y/N’s cheek. She wanted to trust him, but how could she? How could she let him in after his betrayal? She had always been forgiving, but she refused to be naive — seeing Zuko side with Azula in the crystal caves hurt her deeply and shoved her little crush on him down her throat. She couldn’t go through that again, it would be simply idiotic to. Y/N had to stand her ground. She wouldn’t be hurt by him again.
-----
“Hey, jerks. Mind if I watch you two jerks do your jerkbending?”
“Get out of—” Zuko was interrupted by the Avatar’s laughter. Sokka smiled softly at her, cheeks blushing. For some reason, that only managed to piss Zuko off even more, “get out of here!”
“Okay, take it easy. I was just kidding around,” the Water Tribe boy winked at Y/N, “see you later?”
“Sure, we still need to see that part of the temple we found yesterday. Exploration partners!”
“Exploration partners!” he agreed with a chuckle and turned away from them. “Bye, Y/N. Jerkbending… Still got it.”
Zuko glanced at her with irritation while she watched Sokka leave. He felt already incredibly frustrated for not being able to produce his fire and not knowing why, he definitely did not need to watch as Sokka and Y/N flirted.
They would make a cute couple, though, and she smiled so brightly at him it was physically painful to watch. He wanted her to smile like that at him, look like that at him. But she wouldn’t — she was over her crush and had no reason to ever feel anything towards him again, not after what he had done. He didn’t deserve her love anyway, so maybe it was for the best.
“So? Any progress, Sifu Hotman?”
“I told you not to call me that,” he snarled angrily and she sighed.
“Sorry, Sifu Hotman.”
“This was a mistake,” he sat down roughly, ignoring the ache on his legs due to the sudden movement, “maybe teaching you firebending is not my destiny.”
She looked at him with furrowed eyebrows, not understanding, “what do you mean?”
“How can I teach you anything when I’ve lost my fire, Y/N?” he chuckled sadly, letting one of his hands go through his hair in distress. “I wanted to be on the good side of the war and I can’t even make myself useful.”
“You haven’t lost your fire, Zuko,” her voice was careful, “I think you’re just going through some internal conflict and that’s reflecting on your bending, but if you were meant to teach me firebending, you will. Your destiny is still your destiny regardless, Sifu Hotman.”
“It’s easy for you to say, you’re the Avatar! I’m not even sure who I am anymore, but you have always known what your destiny was.”
“Yeah, and I was scared of it,” she smiled softly, “I ran away and disappeared for a hundred years. People died because of my absence. I have made mistakes, and I have failed many, many times. Sadly, that doesn’t make me less of an Avatar. Zuko, if you must be my teacher, it’s gonna work. We’ll figure things out and you will get your fire back. Okay?”
He stared inside her eyes. There was still some sort of mistrust in them — she was willing to help him because she needed him, but still suspicious. She wasn’t really sure he was on their side, but this was a start. He was going to fix everything and he would make her proud. He would make Y/N happy to call him a friend. Or something more.
Maybe he had a crush on her, too.
-----
Toph’s idea to look for the original source of firebending had greatly backfired (no pun intended, even though Y/N could clearly hear Sokka’s laughter in her head at the joke). They traveled to the Sun Warriors’ ancient city and found an impressive temple adorned with statues. Things were going surprisingly well until they weren’t, and now they were stuck in a disgusting glue because Zuko touched the pretty gemstone. Hours had passed and Y/N was increasingly more annoyed at their situation.
“You had to pick up the glowing egg, didn’t you?”
“At least I made something happen! If it were up to you, we’d never have made it past the courtyard.”
“Maybe, but we wouldn’t be stuck here either, so did you really win?”
Zuko rolled his eyes, “this is stupid. How are we getting out of here?”
“Help!” the girl screamed as loudly as she could, being met with only silence.
“Who are you yelling to? Nobody’s lived here for centuries,” the Fire Prince argued and it was Y/N’s turn to roll her eyes.
“Well, what do you think we should do, genius?”
“Think about our place in the universe?”
Despite her current irritation, Y/N couldn’t help but smile at his words. He instinctively smiled back and she felt warmth spread through her chest.
She was starting to think she wasn’t as over her crush on him as she thought.
They were rescued by the Sun Warriors and judged by the last dragons, and Y/N was sure she hadn’t felt this alive in a while. After burning Katara (it was so long ago it seemed like a different life), she had thought of fire as something destructive, harmful, but she could now see it with new eyes. Fire could be love, life, and power.
The Avatar glanced at Zuko. Maybe she could try and see him as that, too.
-----
“You did well today,” Zuko complimented warily, avoiding her gaze, “if we keep up the training, you might become a better firebender than me.”
“Why, thank you, Hotman,” she smiled brightly and Zuko was sure he could pass out right there, “I just have a great teacher.”
“Y/N!”
The Avatar felt Sokka before she saw him, laughing at the way he hugged her from behind joyfully, leaning his chin on her shoulder. “Hey, honey. What’s up?”
“Doing fine,” he mumbled, brushing her hair off his face delicately, “wanna grab something to eat?”
“I think I’m gonna train some more and clean myself later. I’ll meet you after?”
“Sure! I’ll be back inside. See you, Y/N, Zuko.”
They both watched as the Water Tribe boy entered the temple again. There was a weird burning sensation running through Zuko’s blood when he asked, voice slightly raspy and overly quiet, “so, you and Sokka, huh? You make a nice couple.”
She turned her head to him so quickly it almost gave her whiplash, “what? No! I mean—” she blushed at the question, flustered by the fact he would even consider something like that. The Fire Prince waited silently, irritation surfacing at her stammering. He wasn’t sure why that angered him so much, but he decided to be still and listen, “we are just friends,” she concluded, “he means a lot to me, but so do Katara and Toph, you know? We are—we are just friends. He even likes that Kyoshi Warrior, Suki! So, yeah, we are definitely not a couple.”
“I see,” Zuko felt curiously static with that piece of information, “and you don’t have feelings for him?”
“No, of course not. I mean, I had a thing for him when we first met, but now it’s gone. He’s my best friend and I love him, just not like that.”
“Okay. Good.”
“Good?” Y/N turned her head to the side in confusion and he paled considerably, finally noticing the meaning of his own words. “Why is that good?”
“Oh? I—it’s good that you love him! Yeah, having friends is amazing, right? Yeah.”
She smiled amusingly, “it truly is.”
“Yeah.”
The Avatar chuckled lightly, “come on, Sifu Hotman. Let’s do that leg movement again, I think I’m not doing it right.”
Days passed and a lot of things happened. Zuko knew Y/N wouldn’t be happy with Sokka’s suicide mission, but he couldn’t let him do it alone, so he accompanied him to the Boiling Rock. Again, she wasn’t happy when he followed Katara for revenge for her mother’s death, but then at least someone had Katara’s back and was ready to protect her. He desperately wanted to earn Y/N’s trust and friendship, but that was rather difficult when he insisted on doing the stuff she didn’t want him to do.
They continued their training on Ember Island and the whole Team seemed to thoroughly enjoy the place. Y/N was giving her all to learn firebending and was succeeding splendidly. To be honest, Zuko loved to see her get the moves right — every single time she made it, she would look at him with bright eyes and grin. It was the most beautiful sight Zuko had ever seen and he would do anything to have it permanently engraved in his mind.
They stayed up late during one particular night. They were both exhausted after hours of training and ended up sat beside each other on the ground on the back of the Fire Nation Royal Family’s beach house. The air between them was filled with silence and heavy breathing from their previous effort.
“Hey, Zuko?” after a few moments, Y/N called him gently, voice tired and raspy giving him chills. She laid down and stared at the dark sky. “Look at the stars with me.”
He blinked, “really? I mean, shouldn’t we go inside?”
“Please?” her eyes met his and his heart skipped a beat. “Just for a bit.”
“Okay,” Zuko whispered, lying down next to her. They looked at the sky quietly for a bit.
He liked to be around her. It could be the Avatar thing, but Y/N had a calming aura around her that was just unmissable. Being next to her like this gave him the feeling things would be alright, the feeling he was not worthless. It was a lie, of course. There was no way to know how their plans would go, and he was pretty much worthless.
But being beside her was enough to trick his mind. Maybe the little crush he harbored towards her had become something more — Spirits, he liked her so much. Not that it mattered, considering there was no way she would ever love him back, not after everything he had done.
“When I was younger, I believed we became stars when we died.”
He turned his head to look at her, “really?”
She turned to look back and his breath hitched at their close proximity. She chuckled, “yeah. I didn’t even know I was the Avatar back then, I was so young. They told me when I was sixteen, and I ran away shortly after,” there was bitterness to her words, “like a coward.”
“You are not a coward, Y/N. You had no way of knowing how things would go.”
“You really think so?”
“I do. Besides, if you hadn’t run away, you wouldn’t have been stuck on ice for a hundred years, and I would never have met you, which would be awful,” he widened his eyes, completing quickly, “and Sokka, Katara, and Toph, too. I wouldn’t have met them either. Of course.”
Her smile was so pretty he forgot how to breathe, “you’re right, Zuko. I don’t think I would have liked to live a life where I never met you,” she smirked before going on with teasing eyes, “and Sokka, Katara, and Toph, too. Of course.”
“Of course,” he agreed with a blush on his face. They stared at each other carefully and Zuko was pretty sure his heart was performing a professional routine of somersaults inside his body. He definitely was past just a simple crush.
Y/N smiled that dazzling smile of hers before averting her gaze to the stars again and yawning. “We should go in.”
“We should,” the Fire Prince immediately started to sit up, but she held him down with a hand to his chest, and probably felt his crazy heartbeat under her fingers.
“Just a bit more, Prince Zuko,” she whispered, eyes trained to the sky. Slowly but surely, she moved her hand from his chest to his own hand, creating goosebumps on every inch of skin she lightly touched on the way there. Zuko could feel his body burn at the barely-there feeling of her fingertips. She intertwined her fingers with his carefully, giving him the chance to pull away if he so wished. He let out a shaky breath and squeezed her hand. She immediately squeezed his back in reassurance.
In the middle of the quiet and comfort they suddenly found in each other, they fell asleep under the stars, fingers playing with each other until exhaustion finally engulfed them in dreams of pretty smiles and light touches.
It was nice to dodge the nightmares.
-----
“I’ve heard you and Zuko slept outside today,” Sokka had a teasing tone to his voice. Y/N glared at him, “you are together now or something?”
“We are not,” she countered, scratching Appa while they talked. Zuko, Toph, Katara, and Suki had left for the beach already. Y/N still needed to feed her sky bison and Sokka offered to help with the excuse of being a good friend. The Avatar was absolutely sure that wasn’t the real reason he stayed back alongside her and he was currently proving her right, “we were just stargazing and then fell asleep.”
“Stargazing, huh? Real cute. I bet it was an endearing impromptu date, wasn’t it?”
“Since when do you even know the word impromptu?”
“I am always full of surprises.”
“Right,” she rolled her eyes and he laughed loudly, “it was not a date.”
“But you do like him, right?.”
“What?” she turned her entire body to him, furrowing her brows and crossing her arms in a defensive stance. “Why would you say that?”
“Because I know you better than you know yourself and I can tell you have feelings for him,” Sokka copied her movements, staring at her with a smirk, “I also know he likes you back.”
Y/N scoffed and transferred her attention back to Appa, “he does not.”
“So you admit you like him!”
“Shut up, Sokka!” she glared, but quickly gave up under his intense eyes and raised brows. “Yeah, I like him. It doesn’t matter, though.”
“Yes, it does! He feels the same! Look, what about this,” he leaned in closer, that crazy look he had whenever making up a plan taking over his face, “we are going to watch that play about us tonight, right? Well, you guys can sit next to each other! Like a couple!”
“That’s a terrible idea, honey.”
“It’s not! I bet he’s gonna make a move!”
“He won’t, because he’s not in love with me.”
“Wait, you’re in love with him?”
Y/N’s entire body tensed up. She shouldn’t have said that. She wasn’t in love with Zuko! Was she? I mean, she did love to be beside him, and her heart sped up when he gave her one of his rare smiles, and training with him when he had his shirt off was distracting to say the least. Besides, he really seemed to have changed and grown — she felt like she could trust him again, but she could never be sure, and she was adamant on not getting hurt once more. Especially now, when she was dealing with so many things. If he betrayed her a second time… Spirits, it would be just too much to handle.
“I don’t know,” she muttered and Sokka’s cheeky smile faltered, “I don’t want to be.”
He stretched an arm out to hold her hand fondly, “it’s fine, Y/N. Whatever happens, I’m here for you, okay?”
The Avatar smiled sadly, “thank you, Sokka. I’m really glad to have you in my life.”
“I know, honey. I’m great like that.”
She laughed loudly and he grinned in satisfaction, turning her body around and starting to lead her towards the beach, an arm through her shoulders holding her close to his body.
“Shut up, Sokka. You’re so stupid.”
“Yeah, yeah. I love you too.”
Zuko felt a pang to his chest when Sokka and Y/N arrived at the beach holding each other so dearly, but he knew he had no right to complain. She would be better off with Sokka anyway — he was good-looking, nice, funny, smart. Meanwhile, Zuko was nothing but a sad mixture of mistakes and regrets. The Avatar deserved more than that.
“Hey, Hotman,” she walked to him with a smile, planting a kiss on Sokka’s cheek before leaving his side. “Why are you all alone on the sand?”
“Because he’s boring,” Toph answered from some feet away and Katara chuckled. Zuko could feel his face redden.
“He is not,” Y/N argued amusingly, sitting down beside him and grinning. She glanced at him with a happy spark in her eyes, “are you excited for the play tonight?”
“No,” he muttered, but his lack of vivacity didn’t bother her in the slightest, “the Ember Island plays are always ridiculous.”
“I think it’s going to be fun,” she shrugged contently, basking in the hot sun, “if it isn’t, we can always throw food at the stage or whatever.”
He tried really hard, but couldn’t bit back the smile that took over his frown. He watched her attentively, noticing how she seemed to glow in the daylight, giving off this incredible warmth he had only ever seen on her. He averted away his gaze, feeling his neck and face heat up at how unapologetically beautiful she was.
Zuko cleared his throat quietly, “yeah, I guess.”
She only smirked in response.
-----
The play could be worse, he figured. Yes, their portrayal of him was horrible (even though his friends — could he call them friends? Were they friends? He hoped they were — said otherwise) and the actress playing Y/N was not nearly as pretty as the Avatar really was, but Y/N was next to him and, at some point, she had leaned her head on his shoulder tiredly and stayed there. All the training was getting to her and he felt inexplicable joy in the fact she trusted him enough to rest her body on his.
“Look,” her voice was raspy from sleepiness and a chill ran down his spine, “I think now is when you join Team Avatar and becomes our friend.”
He nodded carefully not to disturb her from her position and his heart skipped a beat when she nuzzled closer to his neck. Zuko watched as actor Zuko was accepted into the group and just after a scene with only him and actress Y/N started. Actor Zuko stared at the actress longingly, “my dear Y/N… I know I have wronged you in many ways, but I wanted to apologize for my mistakes and beg for your forgiveness!”
Y/N giggled at that, nudging him affectionately, “that really happened.”
He smiled, eyes following the performers on stage. Actor Zuko continued, “your forgiveness… And maybe your love, Avatar.”
They both immediately tensed up at the words and Y/N moved her head slightly, brows furrowing in confusion.
“My love, Prince Zuko?”
“Yes, my darling.”
They all watched as Actor Zuko and Actress Y/N kissed passionately, earning cheers from the audience. Sokka whistled loudly and Y/N turned to glare at him, receiving a wink in return.
“I have been in love with you since we first met!” Actor Zuko declared excitedly, holding Actress Y/N’s hands. “You are the only one who can make me forget about my teen angst. I love you, Y/N.”
“Well… I don’t!” Actress Y/N moved away swiftly and the crowd gasped in surprise. “I have accepted you in my group, Prince Zuko… But I’ll never accept you in my heart! You’re a bad person that doesn’t deserve my love!”
“What?!” Sokka almost screamed in disbelief. Y/N finally took her head off Zuko’s shoulder, incertitude swimming in her eyes. Before she had the chance to speak, Zuko had already left. The Water Tribe boy widened his eyes at her. “Go after him!”
Y/N nodded her head, getting out of her seat and walking after Zuko, calling his name. He ignored her, feeling anger boil inside him. He knew she would never directly say something like that, but he also knew it was true. She would never love him — he wasn’t worthy of her love, and he was pretty sure she was aware of that too.
“Zuko, wait!” she finally catched up to him, holding his arm and pulling him back. “It’s just a stupid play, Zuko. None of that is true.”
“Really, Y/N?” he turned to stare at her, rage covering his expression. “Because I’m almost certain it is. They said I don’t deserve love, Y/N, and that’s true. After everything I’ve done…”
“No!” she exclaimed desperately, shaking her head vehemently in disagreement. “Zuko, of course you deserve love. Yes, you have made mistakes, but all of us have. You shouldn’t care about what some actress says.”
“But they’re right, Y/N,” he insisted, feeling tears stinging his eyes, “I’m unworthy of love and everyone knows, and that’s why nobody actually loves me.”
“I love you!” she yelled out before she could stop herself, breath hitching at the troubled look taking over his face. Y/N sighed deeply, crossing her arms shyly and looking away, “I do,” her voice was small as she blushed, “I thought I was over my little crush for you but I wasn’t, and it’s—it’s much more than a little crush. I was afraid of admitting it but I know who you are, Zuko. You are loyal and smart and so inherently good and I love you. Spirits, I really do.”
He stared at her for a second, processing her words. She fidgeted anxiously and he smiled at all her small manners. With certainty to his movements, Zuko took a step forwards and cradled her face in his hands. He studied every inch of her expression, waiting for some kind of rejection. She offered him a hopeful smile and he was quick to smash his lips with hers, feeling the warmth that always surrounded her consume him entirely. He kissed her passionately, happiness pouring out of him — the words “she loves you” echoing inside his mind like a broken record, filling his heart with joy.
She moved away when there was no more air in her lungs, breathing heavily and grinning like a mad woman. Y/N lifted her arm and touched his scar so fondly it physically hurt. Never before had he been touched with such care and it made tears flood his eyes, something she instantly noticed, giggling at his cuteness and drying one running tear with her thumb. She felt like her chest was full. He kissed her thumb lovingly when it rested near his mouth.
She loved him. She thought he was worthy of love, of her love, even after everything he had done. No matter how many mistakes he had made, she still loved him, and that thought was enough to make Zuko feel some sort of hope towards the future.
Spirits, she really loved him.
“I love you too, Y/N. Very, very much.”
is it good? not really. could it be worse? yeah lmao

Van Zieks - the Examination, part 12
Warnings: SPOILERS for The Great Ace Attorney: Chronicles. Additional warning for racist sentiments uttered by fictional characters (and screencaps to show these sentiments).
Disclaimer: (see Part 1 for the more detailed disclaimer.) - These posts are not meant to be taken as fact. Everything I’m outlining stems from my own views and experiences. If you believe that I’ve missed or misinterpreted something, please let me know so I can edit the post accordingly. -The purpose of these posts is an analysis, nothing more. Please do not come into these posts expecting me to either defend Barok van Zieks from haters, nor expecting me to encourage the hatred. - I’m using the Western release of The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles for these posts, but may refer to the original Japanese dialogue of Dai Gyakuten Saiban if needed to compare what’s said. This also means I’m using the localized names and localized romanization of the names to stay consistent. -It doesn’t matter one bit to me whether you like Barok van Zieks or dislike him. However, I will ask that everyone who comments refrains from attacking real, actual people.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11
Let's bring this thing home! It's time for the conclusion of the essay series!
Conclusion With a stupidly long essay series behind us, it's time to look at what we've learned! Let's go back to Part 1 and review what we needed from Van Zieks's character development for a fully rounded redemption arc, shall we?
1) Present an antagonistic (possibly immoral) force who personifies Ryunosuke’s biggest personal obstacle/weakness, in this case racial prejudice. 2) Humanizing traits begin to show. OPTIONAL: A backstory to justify any immorality he has. 3) Over time, Barok has his realization and sees the error of his ways. 4) Barok atones for his immorality, not simply through apology but by taking decisive steps. 5) The cast around him acknowledges his efforts and forgives him.
And looking at the main game (plus additional dialogue), we have...
1) Antagonistic force:
Etc. etc. I have many of these. We can all agree that as an antagonistic force, he does his job quite well. CEO of Racism and White Privilege in the flesh. It works, since we as the audience get very frustrated and want to see him defeated.
2) Humanization:
Giving him an old friend to be a defendant was a brilliant move, really. Albert's reflection on the friendship and the person Van Zieks used to be really helped flesh him out and make him appear more like a human being with, y'know, emotions and weaknesses. The little snippets of dialogue in his office really help too. Presenting evidence can also lead to fun tidbits. All in all, considering how gruff and distant Van Zieks is, they really did their very best to humanize him. The writers were given very little to work with but they exploited every opportunity to come their way.
OPTIONAL backstory:
Again, I don't think we needed a tragic backstory to have a well-rounded, redeemable character. Still, it ties in very expertly to the game's plot and the motivations of quite a few other characters. The story of Klint van Zieks and his death isn't necessarily Barok van Zieks's backstory, it's the center of an intricate web which also holds Kazuma, Stronghart, Gregson, Jigoku, (S)Holmes, Mikotoba, Sithe, Drebber- I could go on. A LOT. So because of how very integrated it is into the main narrative's recurring themes and characters, I'll give it props for being relevant and well thought out. The bigger question is: Does it justify his immorality? Not entirely. I think the game could have gotten more out of this if they'd involved the other two exchange students in this tale just a bit more. They could have given more attention to how Jigoku's aggressive behavior in the trial impacted Van Zieks, and explained whether he might've suspected Mikotoba of sabotaging (S)Holmes's investigation. If the narrative had done that, all three Japanese people to come to London would have been ‘the bad guy’ in Van Zieks's eyes and it would have given more credence to his racial generalization. They could have also given more attention to how the people around him reacted to Genshin being the Professor, because I'm sure Stronghart and Gregson stoked the fire in terms of xenophobia. As it stands, there isn't really enough there to justify hatred of an entire race as opposed to just one person.
3) Realization/Redemption
We see him already start to realize the error of his ways around the end of 1-5, which is technically only about halfway into the full narrative. Unfortunately, thanks to 2-2 being played afterwards (but chronologically set before 1-5), any progress made in 1-5 can become invalidated in the player's eyes. Growth works best when it's done linear. Don't get me wrong, flashbacking to earlier times when a character is still more morally tainted can work well, but it needs to be executed properly. Barok's behavior in 2-2 is downright insulting towards the audience itself and therefore, it causes emotional friction when relaying the narrative endgoal of redemption. It also makes it extra jarring when we hit 2-3, and suddenly Van Zieks is meant to be relying on the protagonist's desire to expose the truth. How on earth can we as the audience trust that Van Zieks believes in Ryu's abilities when we just came fresh out of a case where this man actively sabotages Ryu's efforts?
Still, the line of redemption continues from 2-3 into 2-4 well enough. He admits that he was wrong- that his hatred was illogical and that he needs to change. This is the very definition of redemption. I need to stress once more this is not to be confused with atonement, which comes next.
4) Atonement
Here it is. It's not enough to simply acknowledge mistakes; one needs to work hard to fix them. Since Van Zieks is the defendant for two whole episodes, equaling roughly 20% of the full narrative and 67% of the time following his first true realization (chronologically), there isn't much that he can actively do to atone. Because remember, not only do these actions need to fit the situation he's currently in, they need to fit his personality. These two limitations ensure the atonement mostly takes the form of dialogue. Of apologies.
One might want to point out that he never apologizes specifically for his racism, but there's a reason for that. If you pay close attention, you'll notice that there isn't a single character who ever uses a word like “racism”, “xenophobia” or even “racial prejudice” in this game. It's for the same reason you'll never see an Ace Attorney character utter words like “alcoholism”, “drug abuse” or “depression”. These things may be implied very strongly, to the point where you'll know for certain a character is suffering from it, but it's never given these exact labels. It has to do with the tone of the game. In Great Ace Attorney's dialogue, Barok van Zieks is only ever described as holding “a deep hatred for Japanese”, which is then the only thing he could apologize for. And he does, so long as you aren't looking for a literal phrasing of “I apologize for my deep hatred of your people”.
Regardless, he can't take more active, decisive action until he's freed from prison and two scenes with Van Zieks later, the game has ended. He still manages to take two actions, though! The first is to publicize the truth of the Professor, taking the blame of the mass murders off Genshin's shoulders (and losing his own privilege in the process). The second is to take Kazuma under his wing as his disciple. I'm not certain there's anything else the narrative could have had him do. What is decisively missing, however, is the following:
5) Acknowledgment
The above aren't good examples of cast acknowledgment that Van Zieks is taking part in a redemption arc, rather, they're the best I could find. Characters are acknowledging that he's changing- that he's being kinder to them and they can get along with him now, but they're not acknowledging that he caused hurt in the first place. This, in my opinion, is the Great Ace Attorney's biggest narrative flaw. I've talked before about how Ryu's reaction to Van Zieks's racism is 'indirect communication', a typically Japanese manner of dealing with negativity. I've also talked about how Ryu is not in a position to speak up, as he's a literal minority who is there to represent his country in an official capacity and can’t afford to make enemies. However, characters like Susato and Kazuma are far more outspoken in their opinions, as is Soseki. The only one who ever calls Van Zieks out on his racism is the British judge, and even that is done very meekly. When an old crusty white guy is the one who condemns white privilege in a cast full of minorities, you've got a problem. The Japanese cast's refusal to acknowledge that Van Zieks's words were harmful is like Team Avatar telling Zuko that sure, he can join since he's a good guy now, but never once acknowledging that he burned down villages or betrayed everyone's trust in Ba Sing Se. There's something very vital missing, see? If indeed the cast had called Van Zieks out more actively on his harmful ways and how necessary it was for him to change, he in turn could have taken more atonement steps in response.
So, for the conclusion: Does Barok van Zieks tick all the necessary boxes for a complete redemption arc? Yes. In a very technical sense, all the requirements are there. But does that mean it's a successful arc? Not necessarily. The game has a few slip-ups, a few things not executed as well as they could have been. For that reason, whether the audience is satisfied with the arc is entirely up to them. Taking into consideration that they had to cram a whole lot of story into just two games- the second game in particular, I can acknowledge they did their very best with the limitations that were there.
And there we have it! That’s all I could think to say on the matter. I hope everyone who read this till the very end enjoyed it, maybe even learned a thing or two. I’m always open to questions, input and constructive criticism!
