a lot of times when americans start talking about the middle class you really get the sense that they dont realize that what they consider “just middle class” is actually very wealthy to the majority of the world. like how can you say this with so little self awareness
#im guessing this person is severely in denial about their class status bc going to private school your entire life#is not middle class or even upper middle class#whatever that term means at this point#or really any of the other stuff in this the more i look at it#mine

The realest Tumblr experience is that if you talk about a relatable phenomenon generally and don't give an example a lot of people will completely misinterpret you, but if you do give an example people will focus entirely on the example and completely misinterpret you.
#I'm thinking about that post of someone talking about wanting a comfortably middle class life with a nice mug#and people are like here's how to acquire mugs at low prices and it's like. nope not the point.#this is imo due to what I think of the But I'm Helping problem of the internet

Logan 100% wears Wade's friendship necklace. He'd be dumbfounded when Wade handed him half of the iconic BFF Poolverine necklace saying that he ordered them custom friendship jewlwry (he'd almost choke up but try to hide it). He wouldn't show how touched he was but when Wade jokes that he can take it back if he doesn't like it and find someone else to share his half of the BFF necklace he'd snatch it and clutch it close his chest.
Ever since then, he'd wear it every day but not say a word. If anyone implied it's childish or makes fun of him, he'd snarl and growl at them because how dare they insult Wade's craftsmanship and the first custom gift he got him.
Wolverine is used to necklaces. Used to wearing dog tags and sometimes chains to signify being part of a faction. But this was different. He wasn't just a weapon, wearing an identifying collar—he was Wade's. And Wade wore it proudly too, showing it off as a mark that they belonged to each other.
(Logan found it comforting. Wade was his. He was Wade's. When he was anxious or insecure, he'd reach out and touch the chain. He'd thumb the heart of the necklace, run his fingers along the edges, and take deep breaths. It helped to ground him. Remind him that he was here and loved and Wade's.)
Having it around his neck was a physical reminder that he had a home now. That he woke up every day to see Wade's smile. That he was no longer alone in a universe that hated him.
People flirted with the bad boy. They threw food in front of a stray. They trained him to be a useful weapon. But nobody wanted him—nobody wanted to own his heart, to take him home, to treat him like he mattered. Much less allow him to have them in turn, to treat him as an equal in the relationship. He was used to being a shameful secret, a temptation but never the first choice.
But here was Wade. Who took him in, even when he was at his lowest. Who wanted a marker to show that they belonged to each other. Who wears the Wolverine half of his necklace proudly on his neck and brags to anyone who asks how lucky he is.
He was wanted. He was allowed to belong to someone. Someone wanted to belong to him in turn. He could finally have something that he wouldn't lose.
(He'd never take it off. Even as he slept. Even in the shower.)

everyone i see saying "omg oliver really said eat the rich!!!1!111!!!!" are COMPLETELY missing the point of that movie. it was not an "eat the rich movie", it wasn't about class in that sense AT ALL. it was very much about desire and obsession and consumption. not class!!
#saltburn#sure class plays a small role in it#but its literally revealed that oliver ISNT poor he isnt living a bad life in a bad home in wanting conditions#he has a middle class family that seems fairly stable financially#he literally makes up all the stuff about having terrible parents who were neglectful and drunk all the time#so it really is not about him infiltrating this family to steal their money and property#not at all!!!!!#yeah he becomes obsessed with a boy from a rich family but it is not BECAUSE he is rich#that has nothing to do with it!!#and people who look at this film and only see it as an 'eat the rich' movie are doing it a GREAT disservice#they are fundamentally misunderstanding it

I made a few new wax seal stamps out of clay (like the ones I did for my worldbuilding stuff forever ago), this time just of random symbols that I thought might look good done in the style of painting over the raised part of the wax or etc. :0c Some of them aren't carved deep enough to really show up that well, but overall they worked okay for being clay lol
#wax seal#crafts#wax stamp#stationery#Window one is kind of stinky.. I was imagining like a swirly night sky sort of looking thing so it would be a surreal contrast of a night#sky with a window in the middle that shows a daytime sky - but the silver and purple wax kind of mixed too much together#with the black and it just looks very plain black and not all that starry or anything hjbhj.. Of course the eye is probably my favorite#since all I ever do is draw eyes and still like eye imagery for some reason. The four leaf clover is very lumpy and skrunkty but also it wa#the smallest in size out of all of them so was easier to do multiple stamps of just to try it out.#The heart with eyes wax is actually more swirly in person. I wanted it to be a mix of light pink and red and white. and the wax#did kind of all blend together but in person you can definitely see MORE of the intentional swirlyness. in this it just looks plain pink.#I was going to do one eye in the heart but it looked weird. but now two seems too plain. i could have done 3?? in a pattern.. hmm#alas. I wish I could make actual metal ones. With the clay i have to paint them in a thin layer of olive oil before stamping because#otherwise the wax just kind of gets stuck in the grooves of the clay and then you can't pull it up. Very wacky ''unprofessional'' looking#set up where I'm hot gluing circles of sculpey clay to short stumps of a wooden dowel that I sawed apart with a serrated bread knife#and then using an old paintbrush to put olive oil on them whilst holding a spoon over a yankee candle flame hjbjh#ANYWAY.. I think if I were middle class/rich/etc. this would be one of the main things in my crafting room is like.. SO many colors#of wax. and all different custom made stamps designed by me. which could be much more elaborate in actual metal.. muahaha.... >:)c#RHGghhh... I actually don't want to talk much about it since (this is probably just my Obsessed With My Own World Artist Delusions) I#think I have a really cool idea for a game that could genuinely be successful if i ever get to make it and I don't want to give#everything away and spoil the whole plot/concept in hopes that one day I can actually do it - BUT - a game that I'd like to make after the#visual novel I'm making now has partially to do with the main character working as a sort of writer/scribe/artist assistant in an elven#city (set in my world/with my worldbuilding species and versions of elves and etc) and I was thinking of maybe incorporating#somehow being able to collect little writing type items like these like.. you can get different wax seal patterns or pens or etc. when I do#stuff like this in Real Life it always makes me think of that like.. ouh... this is good research.. what it shall be like to be a littol#elf collecting wax seals and such.. indeed... GRR i need to be finished with my current game NOWWW... i MUST work on other#thingss... aughh... ANYWAY.. yay. accomplishment to do One Single Thing other than Sit In The Summer Heat And Rot#though also hilarious as this was the first cool-ish day that was below 80F in a while hgvh#waking up like 'wow.. i actually feel okay today?? like I could do things?? how mysterious.. I wonder why..?? :0'' Its The Weather You Fool#Tis Always The Weather

the only Amis who have to Actually Care about their studies are the med students
all the rest are on a sliding scale from 'we don't actually know if they're even in college' to ' actively resisting the college they are enrolled in like they've been dumped behind enemy lines'
they are shit terrible students and that is actually canon
#Marius is a good student.#Marius is square as hell.#this is actually a part of the setup that i think is really hard to graft onto the US modern setting#college is so massively different now#it's expensive there are so many Requirements it's so hostile to like. Life.#why would most of them even be there#being a Good Student has absolutely no correlation with Being Intelligent or Being a Good Person or Overthrowing the Government#and it's less and less of a Given that even middle class kids will attend#so let me tell you about my Amis in Community College/ Community Classes AU--- *is pulled offstage by a giant comedy hook*

what i can't help but think about in regards to dylan mulvaney's horrible song is not only how privileged he is as a man but how privileged he is as a well-off man. every single aspect of "girlhood" that he talks about is based in consumerism and requires a bourgeois background to access. i wonder what he would say if someone reminded him that there are millions of women around the world who don't have the means to find their womanhood in prescription drugs and healthcare, club life and one night stands, new clothes and makeup, etc. many women live day to day, struggling to make ends meet. are they excluded from "womanhood" or "girlhood" as dylan defines it?
#berry talks#and like i have to acknowledge my own privilege here as an upper middle class bourgeois baby#so if any women have something to add or correct about their life experiences with money struggles please do!#dylan mulvaney#radical feminism#radblr#radfem safe#radfems do touch#radfems do interact#radical feminists do interact#feminism#radfem#gender critical

some additional doodles and a Lot of Headcanons... sorry if im spamming these a little bit. ive got so many thoughts in my head, lmao
theres my older pacifica- after weirdmageddon, her and gideon become friends. theyre both sort of ostracized from the town as a whole bc of their past attitudes/actions so they cling together and become buds. its nice having someone else who 'gets' it.
pacifica moved out as soon as she could to get away from her folks and has a job at a local mall. gideon enables her to enjoy at least SOME of her old luxuries by taking her shopping and to get their nails done together and stuff. also his prison buddies help ''kindly persuade'' her parents not to break her enforced no-contact rule from time to time. i know the two have the bitchiest gossip in the entire town together. sometimes when its hard to be 'nice' they know they can at least vent to the other and they wont get judged for it, yknow?
also some backstory doodles! he was a Normal Kid, Once. or close enough to it. gideon was a sickly child and was sheltered and homeschooled for most of his life. the gleefuls moved from texas to oregon when he was about seven (yes i know this breaks canon a little. its fine shh.) and he found journal 2 shortly after. things went downhill from there
other notes. he's always kept his hair long, but used to either let it down or tie it into a long braid. he very briefly attended a public school and he didnt fare very well there (fat kid + albino + 'girly' + general weird interests is basically painting a massive target on your back) he used to stay up and watch late night televangelists when he couldnt sleep in hospital and copped his aesthetic from there
sorry this post is so long i have a lot of thoughts about him </3
#alloyart#gravity falls#gideon gleeful#pacifica northwest#i dont think pacificas 'aesthetic' changes much apart from she allows herself to be more casual now bc she has less 'standards' to uphold#shes still learning what she actually ENJOYS. because shes had her whole life dictated by her parents up until now. its slow going#its funny how in my 'carrying on from canon' au/timeline basically everyone tries to become a nicer or better person#pacificas parents are not included in this tho. fuck em lol. she does NOT have contact with them if she does not absolutely HAVE to.#and having a pal who knows a lot of criminals is actually comforting. gids puts the wall of muscle between her and her parents#they got that upper-middle class solidarity goin on#anyway. sorry this is a fuckin wall of text. like i said ive got SO many headcanons ive not posted publicly#Talk To Me About Gideon Charles Gleeful [i am gripping my desk very tightly]#(in all seriousness if you ever want to hear more uh. idk. send me an ask or something. ask me about headcanons. i'll be happy)

sometimes supernatural homophobia is so absurd it becomes funny like they literally called dean gay for basically having a wife and a kid???? like is it gay to live in the suburbs with your girlfriend and her son????
#like it's the ultimate dream to leave hunting and settle into the white middle class family life but then when you actually get the thing#they've been praising and idolising so much suddenly you're gay and unmanly for not being a hunter#putting the actual meat of this post in the tags as always but saw a s6 gif where they hold up the women's magazine and laugh at dean for#having it in his house where he lives. with a woman#da.post#spn

actually i'm still thinking about the moral orel finale.
he has a cross on his wall. do you know how much i think about that bc it's a lot.
a lot of stories ((auto)biographical or fictional) centering escape from abusive/fundamentalist christianity result in the lead characters leaving behind christianity entirely. and that makes complete sense! people often grow disillusioned with the associated systems and beliefs, and when it was something used to hurt them or something so inseparable from their abuse that they can't engage with it without hurting, it makes total sense that they would disengage entirely. and sometimes they just figure out that they don't really believe in god/a christian god/etc. a healthy deconstruction process can sometimes look like becoming an atheist or converting to another religion. it's all case by case. (note: i'm sure this happens with other religions as well, i'm just most familiar with christian versions of this phenomenon).
but in orel's case, his faith was one of the few things that actually brought him comfort and joy. he loved god, y'know? genuinely. and he felt loved by god and supported by him when he had no one else. and the abuses he faced were in how the people in his life twisted religion to control others, to run away from themselves, to shield them from others, etc. and often, orel's conflicts with how they acted out christianity come as a direct result of his purer understanding of god/jesus/whatever ("aren't we supposed to be like this/do that?" met with an adult's excuse for their own behavior or the fastest way they could think of to get orel to leave them alone (i.e. orel saying i thought we weren't supposed to lie? and clay saying uhhh it doesn't count if you're lying to yourself)). the little guy played catch with god instead of his dad, like.. his faith was real, and his love was real. and i think it's a good choice to have orel maintain something that was so important to him and such a grounding, comforting force in the midst of. All That Stuff Moralton Was Up To/Put Him Through. being all about jesus was not the problem, in orel's case.
and i know i'm mostly assuming that orel ended up in a healthier, less rigid version of christianity, but i feel like that's something that was hinted at a lot through the series, that that's the direction he'd go. when he meditates during the prayer bee and accepts stephanie's different way to communicate, incorporating elements of buddhism into his faith; when he has his I AM A CHURCH breakdown (removing himself from the institution and realizing he can be like,, the center of his own faith? taking a more individualistic approach? but Truly Going Through It at the same time), his acceptance (...sometimes) of those who are different from him and condemned by the adults of moralton (stephanie (lesbian icon stephanie my beloved), christina (who's like. just a slightly different form of fundie protestant from him), dr chosenberg (the jewish doctor from otherton in holy visage)). his track record on this isn't perfect, but it gets better as orel starts maturing and picking up on what an absolute shitfest moralton is. it's all ways of questioning the things he's been taught, and it makes sense that it would lead to a bigger questioning as he puts those pieces together more. anyway i think part of his growth is weeding out all the lost commandments of his upbringing and focusing on what faith means to him, and what he thinks it should mean. how he wants to see the world and how he wants to treat people and what he thinks is okay and right, and looking to religion for guidance in that, not as like. a way to justify hurting those he's afraid or resentful of, as his role models did.
he's coming to his own conclusions rather than obediently, unquestioningly taking in what others say. but he's still listening to pick out the parts that make sense to him. (edit/note: and it's his compassion and his faith that are the primary motivations for this questioning and revisal process, both of individual cases and, eventually, the final boss that is christianity.) it makes perfect sense as the conclusion to his character arc and it fits the overall approach of the show far better. it's good is what i'm saying.
and i think it's important to show that kind of ending, because that's a pretty common and equally valid result of deconstruction. and i think it cements the show's treatment of christianity as something that's often (and maybe even easily) exploited, but not something inherently bad. something that can be very positive, even. guys he even has a dog he's not afraid of loving anymore. he's not afraid of loving anyone more than jesus and i don't think it's because he loves this dog less than bartholomew (though he was probably far more desperate for healthy affection and companionship when he was younger). i think it's because he figures god would want him to love that dog. he's choosing to believe that god would want him to love and to be happy and to be kind. he's not afraid of loving in the wrong way do you know how cool that is he's taking back control he's taking back something he loves from his abusers im so normal
#i had a really big fundie snark phase a year or two ago so that's part of like. this. but im still not used to actually talking about#religious stuff so if it reads kinda awkwardly uhh forgive me orz idk#maybe it sounds dumb but i like that the message isn't 'religion is evil'. it easily could have been. but i think the show's points about#how fundie wasp culture in particular treats christianity and itself and others would be less poignant if they were like. and jesus sucks#btw >:] like. this feels more nuanced to me. i guess there's probably a way to maintain that nuance with an ultimately anti-christian#piece of media but i think it'd be like. wayy harder and it's difficult for me to imagine that bc i think a lot of it would bleed out into#the tone. + why focus on only These christians when They're All also bad? so you'd get jokes about them in general#and i think that's kinda less funny than orel and doughy screaming and running from catholics lsdkjfldksj#i think the specificity makes it more unique and compelling as comedy and as commentary. but that's just me#like moralton represents a very particular kind of christian community (namely a middle class fundie wasp nest)#you're not gonna be able to get in the weeds as much if you're laughing at/criticizing all christians. but they accomplish it so thoroughly#and WELL in morel and i think that's because it chose a smaller target it can get to dissect more intimately. anyway#moral orel#orel puppington#(OH also when i say wasp here i mean WASP the acronym. as in white anglo-saxon protestsant. in case the term's new to anyone <3)#maybe it's also relevant to say that i'm kindaaaaaaaa loosely vaguely nonspecifically christian. so there's my bias revealed#i was never raised like orel but i like to think i get some of what's going on in there y'know. in that big autistic head of his#but it's not like i can't handle anti-christian/anti-religious media/takes. i'm a big boy and also i v much get why it's out there yknow#christianity in specific has a lot of blood on its hands from its own members and from outsiders and people have a right to hate it for tha#but religion in all its forms can be positive and i appreciate the nuance. like i've said around 20 times. yeah :) <3#(<- fighting for my life to explain things even though my one job is to be the explainer)

reblog this and put in the tags your favorite (or most memorable) mandatory reading from school
#I was very much that kid who enjoyed the mandatory readings when 80% of the class Did Not#however I might have just really enjoyed the group discussion/debate that followed the readings#anyways!#there's this one book I read in middle school that I think was actually non fiction?#and was about this guy in Alaska and his sled dogs#wish I could remember the name or more plot events because I can not find the book today for the life of me#I also liked this short story we read in a class in Highschool that was about#this self cleaning/functioning house going through its routine functions even though the family is long dead#(I think this was taking place post nuclear fallout/war or something)
