and it won’t let go of anything that isn’t dead so you know you’re going to die so you have to strike first but it’s clever it’s lived this long and it bests you and keeps you as its trophy so it can hold onto you forever but when you finally break free it doesn’t recognize you anymore because the monster in you has fallen asleep and you don’t recognize yourself either and the worst part is it lets you go freely and so you live a life again that is as normal as you can make it but you can’t go back to who you were before you loved the monster so you find other monsters and let them shape you into something you can stand but the monster within you is awake and craves recognition so you find your monster again and it sees you it sees you it sees you and you have your heart back and it says soft things to you but it’s a monster who can only do monstrous things so you wound it knowing it can take it and that your heart is only safe with distance between you and it and you try to give your heart away because it doesn’t feel right in your chest now but this new monster isn’t the old one and it kills you and you kill it and for all your monster did it never let you die and in fact it brings you back to life and does not ask for thanks does not ask for trust all it asks for is your companionship and after all it is already holding your heart

DC's writers don't.

I don't know if it's because writers only really write for trades more, but ever since new 52 every writer wants to be the O'Neil/Morrison and make it more epic than the last. I've lost count how many fucking times Gotham has been taken over and/or destroyed these last 5 years, but the fact that I lost count says something. There have been no civilian characters introduced since Tamaki's promising, but kind of mediocre, go at TEC.

They take his money away 'to go back to his roots' (laughable as Bruce has never been without his fortune), and sure you finally get him interacting with regular joes again, only for it not even mattering since he's gotten gear stashed everywhere anyway, not to mention that the next writer to throw it all into the garbage like a meal they don't like.

They reveal Batman's identity as if they're handing out pamphlets for a local political party; Including to Gordon, to Penguin, to Harvey Dent, to fucking Joker, but there is no consequence to that since Bruce's out-of-mask life isn't even a thing that exists anymore. When was the last time he interacted with someone who didn't end up clashing with/meeting with Batman? I sure as fuck can't remember it.

I had hope for Zdarsky's run, since his Daredevil run was a nice street-level romp. (At the beginning anyway, christ did he lose the plot in the end) but he writes stuff like;

That's just sad. Joker and Batman are not Gods or powerful beings like Clark or J'onn.

Th-they're just normal men.

And at the same time you have more and more influences that come from Wayne Family Adventures, which I like don't get me wrong, but these watered down fanficified versions of the Batfam is not what I want to read about when I open up a comic book. Just try reading Taylor's Nightwing without falling asleep and you'll get me.

I like these kinds of things as fan-art or fun covers, but not in my mainline comics.

The Batfamily used to be made up of people with the same goals, but with different approaches, ideals and moral boundaries. Which caused a lot of friction. (Barb and Bruce really, REALLY did not like each other during the early 2000s and that's putting it mildly. And they were co-parenting a suicidal gremlin at that time) They all respected each other, sure, but I can't see any of the family even slightly considering moving in with Bruce. Especially Dick, Barbara and Steph.

All this to say that I'm a boomer and miss the old days.

Yes, this is a transparent and blatant attempt to pspspsps my fellow fans of Critical Role into watching this series. The first season is airing now on Netflix as of May 31st. They picked it up after Max did not renew it for a second season, and will decide based on the reception now whether to continue - so I am hoping that lots of people discover the show and love it! The animation studio is Titmouse, who also produces The Legend of Vox Machina.

It's like a Miyazaki-esque Annihilation. Cosmic horror and cosmic wonder in equal and necessary parts. If you like the funky biology parts of Candela Obscura, give this a shot. There is horror. There is humanity. There is hope and connection. There are creatures of all shapes and sizes, including a wonderful amount of tiny idiots, which I have made many compilation posts about. It's a setting where you can envision David Attenborough peacefully narrating a nature documentary about it, but be horrified the same time. Just an absolutely incredible show.

i need to have words with whoever dressed buck for his date bc what is even going on here??? white sneakers are super casual, paired with more formal shiny black dress pants (look at those pleats!), with a semi-casual button-up polo??? to say nothing of the disconnect colour-wise (the only worse outfits of his this season are the finale fits, but that’s another post). 

he looks as disappointed in himself as i am in the wardrobe department. 

i need to headcanon that he had trouble deciding on what to wear, going back and forth for an hour before finally landing on an ensemble he thought was good [spoiler alert: it was not, in fact good]. for someone who had dressed pretty well this season, this outfit was shock-horror.

wowww re: your last post about ed’s repression (AND regression) in his relationship with lee…season 4 ed seems so inscrutable and fickle until you realize he’s split so deeply bc of his true feelings for oswald and the need to keep those feelings from being true..

but idk if i 1000% agree that ed is fully merged together again at the end of the series (at least pre-time skip)…i think he wants to believe that, and i think both sides of himself agree on that at the moment. because it’s advantageous for ed to use oswald’s trust in him to further his revenge on..the world, the gcpd, gordon, etc. and he enjoys oswald’s company too, so why not?? he thinks he’s in complete control of the relationship again there in my opinion. the way he’s talking to oswald but looking at himself in the mirror. the brothers line proves oswald won’t make a move and that’s just how ed likes it bc he doesn’t have to admit his own feelings to oswald or himself. he has his blind spots, and they’re getting clearer (the hug, the genuine emotion on ed’s face during it) but idk if he’s like completely There yet you know?

anyway though i also suspect that ed doesn’t get to say a lot of words about their relationship in these later episodes bc of production reasons and that we as the fans are meant to interpret it to our own satisfaction lol!

listen i think you're right i just wanted to tie it up in a nice little bow for my own sanity, bc the gotham finale suggests they've been locked up for 10 years! separately!!! idk how you could lock up the comically skilled 1.) master manipulator and 2.) genius for so long (and i do mean comically skilled) but i do still think ed has to be the one to figure it out and take initiative eventually. so not necessarily right after 5x11, but definitely before the 10 years (again this is for my own sanity dear goddd) so technically "end of the series" but also i personally don't like to think of the finale as canon, so that's where it gets way more interesting... i could be wrong about penguin not wanting to open up but i really dont think so i think this is all on ed JKSFJKJSD

if you, as a member of an oppressed group, believe that your freedom and safety can only exist when you oppress another group, you are acting no better than the people who oppressed you. such a belief is horrible, and cynical, and wrong.

as a jew, i want jewish people to be happy and safe and connected to our heritage; as a jew, i also want other peoples to be happy and safe and connected to their heritage.

doesn't the torah tell us to have empathy for those beaten down by the world? doesn't the torah tell us to make the world a better place? doesn't the torah tell us to free people of their shackles and help them escape oppression?

i have so many israeli aunts and uncles and cousins; i fear for their safety. of course, my parents do as well. i'm worried that this fear, in addition to anything they were led to believe earlier in life, is placing my parents even deeper in the zionist camp. but it doesn't have to be this way! my relatives' safety does not rely on the continued oppression of gaza!

it is easy to be uninformed, to be swayed by propaganda, to blindly hope that israel was founded in good faith -- but we can't lie to ourselves. a world steeped in senseless hatred (which we are now promoting!) could never be a home for us. none of us are free, liberated, equal, until all of us are.

as a jew, to other jews, i implore that we stand with our palestinian siblings. i want us all to be happy and safe. i want us all to live in harmony -- in the holy land and around the world. that is what we all deserve. <3
