People who like Metal Gear Solid(TM), can I ask a question?

i think that we need to get over the narrative that you can’t have gay villains because that’s a harmful stereotype because there’s a huge difference between “this character is gay and a bad person” and “this character was written specifically to equate being gay and being evil/depraved/degenerate”. it’s just such a narrow minded view of fiction that leads to people afraid to write queer characters as anything less than morally perfect and then to a bunch of palatable but bland and boring queer characters that are arguably worse representation than a gay villain because they are not allowed to do anything wrong. while it is important to write all types of gay characters a work isn’t instantly “problematic” because the villain is queer and the hero isn’t. I think this is also related to the idea of subtext vs text in gay media and how I see a lot of people get mad bc the homoerotic subtext isn’t made canon without considering the context of it at all—sometimes creators make artistic decisions for reasons other than that they didn’t want the gay people to kiss because they’re homophobic. well written queer subtext can be better than a canon gay couple with no personality or relevance and a queer villain can be a better queer character than a gay hero because the characters in-universe morality isn’t inherently tied to how much care they are written with and the quality of “queer representation” isn’t determined by the amount of times they kiss on screen.

i am playing peace walker for the first time, never played another game with miller (except kind of mgs1 but it doesn't count). he took peace walker's nuclear missile to mother base while nobody was watching and then suggested snake to put it on a boat and send it into ocean where nobody finds it and nobody will know they have it, in case if snake doesn't want to keep it. that considered, if you still take sketch suggestions, would you like to draw kazuhira miller throwing car batteries into the ocean? >]

Oh you know it I want to talk about Kazuhira Miller. Of course I do.

(my favorite Sunny moments are all of mgrec and jomo am I allowed to answer that. Loved her there the writers did such a good job. I wish we were friends.)

First impression

Honestly, I don't think I took that much notice of him in his first appearance? I saw him in pw first, and in the beginning he is just a guy idk. The ending of peace walker and his tapes made me go a bit feral over him though. just a little.

Impression now

I'm in love with his anger issues. He's a scared animal backed into a corner that bites at the hand reaching for him even if it wants to feed and soothe him. I like thinking it gets better with age, but never quite leaves him to some extent, he did think about his revenge on bb for years (even though I think by the end it was less personal and more about. you know. not letting the world explode.)

I really really really like all of Kaz's designs. They're so expressive and tell so much about the mental space he's in. I love how resilient he is throughout all of the shit he deals with and how he passes it on to Dave. What else. There's so much more honesty I talk a bunch about Kaz in other asks, nothing else I haven't mentioned before comes to mind right now.

Favorite moment

Him almost killing himself and bb with a grenade. Showstopping. Brilliant. Never done before. All of first encounter honestly it does so much for him as a character. His tapes where he talks about his childhood too. Every Kaz moment is kind of my favorite I think. I like his lines as Master Miller where he tells Solid he should survive and about cheese fondue and stuff.

Idea for a story

I'm afraid I tie him to Ocelot too much because I love their dynamic. A big fic during the nine year gap where they do a bunch of dumb shit and make Diamond Dogs and kiss is the main one I guess. They go to a casino and beat the shit out of each other one (1) time and beat the shit out of other people many times. So much more bullshit happens but im not getting into that right now. I also have a story with the main focus on Paz in mind, but he's also there a lot, I just want them to be friends.

Unpopular opinion

He can be impulsive but he is a lot more rational than what people often portray/describe him as I think. Also, almost all interpretations of him in v I've seen feel kind of. wrong. Yes, he's traumatized and paranoid, but he is not a *mess*, not in a way he is often viewed. I already said about how I think Kaz's designs are very expressive, and there was this really cool post (don't really know where it's now unfortunately, don't think I reblogged it) about how his facial hair in tpp isn't him giving up on shaving, it's him having a fucking designer stubble that was a rising trend at the time. This, coupled with the fact that he wears so many layers (of also fancy clothes), carries a gun on him at all times, and orders people around as if it were his base (it is) and his soldiers (they are) is exactly the opposite of a man that gave up on his life. It isn't his low point. I headcanon the actual lowest low point in his life being somewhere during bb's coma, and by v he has gotten over it. It was a really long time, and they needed to move on to get things done, so he did. He didn't really need Snake by the time he gets back, I think. Not anymore. It was purely sentimenal by then, plus wanting revenge. And then not even that.

Favorite relationship

Oh would you really make me choose. Ocelhira for all the reasons listed here and so many more. Him and bb for all the baggage they have. Him and V for all the baggage they don't have but think they do because Zero is insane what was that plan. Him and Solid even though they have almost no screentime together. Everyone who ever interacts with him is my favorite relationship because it's Kazuhira Miller. Sorry for being abnormal about him.

Favorite headcanon

Transfem Kaz maybe, but I don't write or think about him with it in mind a lot of the time. Also I think he lost the hand in Ground Zeroes, it makes sense with him bringing up losing limbs and the pain being a reminder of what was taken from him nine years ago in his helicopter speech.

Bonus

Okay, more seriously about Sunny. Everyone always draws her so cheerful and outgoing aka closer to how she's in Rising I assume, that I didn't really expect that she'd be essentially kind of a shut-in in 4. She's a scared anxious child who is also a prodigy, and they are so fucking mean to her there. Made me honestly pretty sad. Though a lot of it might have been the stress everyone was under. I haven't gotten to her in mgr yet, but it makes me happy that things get better for her, like everyone always wanted.

poor Vincent I just want him to be happy!!!! but honestly, all his horrible trauma and guilt and the eternal torment of immortality that awaits him in the future are all part of what makes him a compelling character. if he was just some guy with a pretty ok life, there'd be no story. he'd still be pretty though.

3. What first drew you to this character?

oh, Raiden, i had such a complicated relationship with him 😂. when you first meet him in metal gear 2, he's this lame little tryhard Solid Snake fanboy who wants his codename to be Snake too, and they tell him NO which is just...fucking priceless. i was like who is this dweeb.

then you get deeper in and there's his absurdly melodramatic backstory as a child soldier who had to kill enemies on his birthday to prove he was worthy to live, on top of all his hyper-edgy "there was lightning on the night i was born" broodiness, which turns into the whole "I AM THE LIGHTNING" thing. fucking. i laughed till i cried over his edgelord theatrics. i already loved him so much for being an adorable loser but THEN

THEN

you're playing as old snake, in metal gear 4, who is literally dying, and at one point you're way out of your depth and he's exhausted and out of ammo and surrounded by enemies but…oh? what's that??

FUCKING RAIDEN DESCENDS FROM THE HEAVENS IN FULL ROBOT BONDAGE GEAR LIKE THE GOD OF CYBORG SLUTS AND KICKS ALL THE GIANT ROBOTS' ASSES IN HIS CYBERNETIC HIGH HEELS (which by the way he uses TO WIELD HIS SWORD WITH HIS FOOT)

after that he proceeds to have history's most homoerotic boss fight with Vamp, during which they both end up soaked in weird white fluid (not joking even a little bit)

AND THEN

and then there's Revengeance, in which they double, triple, and quadruple down on the gay theatrics, until the edgelord graduates to edge-emperor and cements his place in history and my heart forever.

She doesn't think with her heart anymore, seeing people only as opportunities.

So, she can charm you easily, she even doesn't have any problem if she must go to bed with you to get whatever she wants. That's what happened to Sundowner, who noticed she chose a politician over him, a simple warmonger... After flirting with him so much, filling his ears with vile promises and whispered sweet nothings to his heart. And that also includes the infamous "I dedicate this song to you, my love".

In the interest of weaning you onto horror: have you played Dishonored yet? Because if you made it through Bioshock, that's like... similar energy, but more stock horror by comparison. I scream at Minecraft jumpscares myself but managed to tolerate Dishonored for the story.

i REALLY want to enjoy dishonoured because so many people i know have mentioned they love its story but im literally so bad at it that i can't get far enough in to reach it 😭 it definitely does seem to be the level im at right now though... tension and creepy vibes without outright horror or jumpscares.

ok i will say that i was jokingly exaggerating with my wording in that post i’m not saying it’s like. a flagrant mischaracterization if you want to create/enjoy content of them doing christmasy stuff you can do whatever you want. i’m not jewish myself so i can’t speak on how common it is for people to celebrate both hannukah and christmas but i think for otacon the biggest thing would be more the fact that being alone with huey (who was absolutely not doing anything. let’s be real) for over ten years + having had essentially no friends growing up means he wouldn’t have any precedent of what spending time with his loved ones during the holidays is like. i mean you could argue that he’s always wanted to find out or whatever which like. alright i guess. i just think his (probable) general apathy towards the holidays + snake having undergone a very traumatizing experience during the same time of year would mean that they just wouldn’t care. them buying presents for sunny because she read about santa claus and them going all out decorating/dressing up/cooking are two different things

🏹: They have very different jobs, so it may not be a very fair battle (Lyria is only in the medical field. While mantis is probably/technically frount lines?). They do have fights as a couple every once in a while, but I can imagine Mantis gets gagged almost every time

🚗: I think Mantis is the one that plays the music, and Lyria drives! Mantis can drive just fine, but probably trusts her driving more than himself😭
