Rambling
Mgi civil war 3: Shrek
Part of kissy kisses
Jon had to physically pull her away from her desk to make her stop.
“You have to take a break now,” he said, pulling the pencil from her hand.
“I’m not done.”
“I’ll be the judge of that.”
“No, there will be an actual judge judging everything with his judgieness. It has to be perfect.”
She struggled to get back to the desk and he just let her move that direction and then scooped her up to carry her out of the room.
“I have decisions to make. I have to decide which color will look best in the lighting. What color do you think they will put on the stage? I can’t have the pattern be too intricate or it will just be blurry.” she paused for a breath before continuing. “You don’t understand how important this is to my career. It isn’t just my graduation, this will determine the kind of job I can get. If I choose the wrong shade or fabric it could ruin me. What if I cut the fabric in the wrong direction and it makes everyone hate it.”
He moved to put her down on her feet and this time she didn’t try to go back to the desk.
“They are so judgy. What even gives them the right?”
She crossed her arms and stuck her lower lip out in the perfect pout. Jon could tell she was getting ready to keep rambling so he put a stop to it. He leaned down and kissed her. She started to pull away so she could tell him how much she still had to do but he pulled her against him and kept kissing until she relaxed into him.
He pushed them over to the couch and she was more than willing to keep kissing him. He could feel her relaxing. He pulled back for a moment and pushed her hair away from her face.
“I’m insisting on a stress free, fashion free night.”
“You can’t do that tonight. Try some other time,” she begged.
“You promised me I could pick three stress free fashion free nights. You have nothing due tomorrow and we are going to order Chinese food and watch Shrek.”
Marinette groaned into his shoulder.
“What is your obsession with that movie? I have never even seen the whole thing, why do you love it so much?”
“You’ll see,” he said with a smile. “Do you agree to my terms?”
“Fine. You order the food and I’ll get a shower before it gets here.”
He smiled. The same smile he had an hour later when she was asleep against him on the couch. It never failed him. When she was too stressed he would put on the movie and she would fall asleep against him before they even made it halfway through.

The Future of HR: Transformative Strategies for a Successful Organization !
Imagine a world where your HR department isn’t just processing paperwork, but actively propelling your business towards exponential growth. That’s the power of a future-ready HR strategy.
At Stratefix Consulting, with over 15+ years of experience transforming HR in over 40+ industries, we’ve witnessed the immense potential of a strategic HR approach in driving success for businesses of all sizes – startups, SMEs, and large enterprises alike.
Why is a future-ready HR strategy crucial?
The business landscape is constantly evolving. Consider these statistics:
70% of the jobs we’ll see in the next decade don’t even exist today (Source: WeworkForum). An effective HR strategy ensures your organization is equipped to navigate this changing terrain.
75% of employees report feeling disengaged at work, costing the global economy $1.2 trillion annually [Source: Gallup].
The Great Resignation trend highlights the growing need for employee-centric workplaces.
Dr. Rob Silzer, M.D of HR Assessment and Development says “Financial Resources may be the lifeblood of a company, but Human Resources are the brains.”
66% of organizations believe that PMS helps them in increasing productivity. High productivity results in increased revenue and decreased costs.
By 2030, the global talent shortage is projected to reach 85.3 million [Source: MGI].
Let's debunk some Traditional HR myths:
Myth 1: HR is just an administrative function or paperwork and Compliance.
Reality: HR plays a central role in attracting, retaining, and developing top talent. A strategic HR approach focuses on fostering a high-performance culture, driving employee engagement, and aligning talent with business goals.
Myth 2: Traditional HR practices are sufficient.
Reality: Rigid, one-size-fits-all HR policies hinder your ability to adapt to the dynamic needs of a modern workforce.
Myth 3: HR only exists to construct (fire) walls and (glass) ceilings.
Reality: HR constructs (second) homes, building playgrounds for the mind.
In today’s dynamic world, a forward-thinking HR strategy is essential for attracting and retaining top talent, keeping pace with technological advancements, and building a future-proof organization.
Here's how Stratefix Consulting bridges the gap by dismantling these myths and empowering businesses:
Client:
We partnered with a traditional manufacturing company struggling with high employee turnover.
Challenge:

Stratefix Solution:
Through multi-pronged approach, data-driven analysis of their workforce, we identified gaps and implemented a comprehensive upskilling program.

Print Mart – 30 digital print outlets and growing
Tumblr media
In 2013, Atul Bhatt and Harish Setia started Print Mart, a commercial printing venture – with a Konica Minolta C6500 from a shed under Bhatt's home in north Delhi’s Rohini. They added an outlet in Shiva Market and two more in northwest Delhi’s Ramesh Nagar and Kamla Nagar in 2015. These became instant hits as it was the market requirement at that time.
With Print Mart as a parent company, Zoom Print and Urban Bunny are sister concerns, that specialize in luxury printing, short-run skins and stickers and book publishing. The company has become a significant contributor to Delhi’s digital printing market, producing around 75 lakh A3 color prints each month.
In 2018, when Atul Bhatt's brother Vikas Bhatt joined Print Mart as general manager, the company had eight outlets. Branches in Patparganj, Okhla and other locations where the jobbers segment were prevalent were added. Jobbers are generally small printing shops that outsource some of their orders to bigger printers.
At present, the commercial printer has 30 outlets across North India in Delhi, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and Noida in the Delhi-NCR and in cities further away such as Panipat, Moradabad and Jalandhar. Most of the printing equipment at these 30 outlets is from Konica Minolta – approximately 45 printing presses with 7 monochrome machines.
“We have a very good relationship with Konica Minolta, which has supported Print Mart during its growth. As a supplier, they have never disappointed us in anything. We have been a nice customer and they also keep on fulfilling our expectations,” Bhatt shared.
Speaking of the need for multiple outlets in Delhi, Bhatt likened their operations to McDonald’s, saying it’s not possible to cater to the jobbers market in the numerous printing hubs spread out across the Delhi NCR, through a single outlet. “Even if a printer gets a discount of Rs 2 for a print, he will not waste two hours traveling – that was the major reason we opened numerous outlets in one city. It’s working well for us. We are like the McDonald’s of printing as most of our Konica Minolta machines are portable and don’t require a huge space,” he said.
“We are a commercial printer for jobbers and 80% of our revenues come from this segment. A jobber has a limited work schedule and operates for around 8 hours, covering a locality with a diameter of 5 to 6 kilometers. Most commercial printers taking job work want such services, and we are here to fulfill their requirements,” he added.
At the Pitampura location, the company has a Konica Minolta MGI JetVarnish 3DS and a Fujifilm Revoria PC 1120. Print Mart has color printers at all the locations.
About the Fujifilm Revoria, he said, “Fujifilm presses are nice. However, there are a few segments where they need to work on to be in a better position in the commercial printing market.”
Expansion in Mangolpuri book publishing and learning materials
The commercial printer recently ordered a 6-clamp BW2500 perfect binder from Bindwel, Konica Minolta monochrome machines and a web fed Atexco digital inkjet press for a digital book publishing unit that it plans to start in Mangolpuri in June. “I feel the monochrome publishing industry has more margins than color printing as there are fewer rejections. The market for monochrome book printing is huge as there are many students in India and you need to tap the right market,” Bhatt says.
Print Mart is mostly looking to print learning material for institutes for the newly planned digital book publishing unit as they are upfront on the payments. Printed learning material has a huge demand in the Delhi-NCR and coaching hubs such as Kota, which will be served from the Mongolpuri unit.
Bhatt says the company has come across criticism from legacy and multi-generational printers at times – that non-printers or new-generation players are disrupting the market. “Overall, commercial printing is a very good industry and cannot be taken over by an MNC because it is very customer-specific and each customer has different requirements,” he says. The industry is growing and if printers have the right machine along with trained manpower, they are likely to succeed in the business, adding that they merely need to fulfill the demand in the jobbers segment.
Though the company sells prints competitively and at times with thinner margins, its growth over the past eleven years demonstrates that the strategy is working well. “There are two options in the market – give credit and earn higher margins and give no credit and earn lower margins. We chose to go with the latter choice from the beginning,” Bhatt said during a recent interaction at the Zoom Print Pitampura outlet.
According to him, the Delhi-NCR is a very good market and it can feed itself but suppliers from Jaipur and adjoining areas are nibbling at the edges of this market. “Printers need to learn from each other and implement better management tactics at their production centers,” he notes.
The input cost for manpower and machinery is very high in the commercial printing business, commenting that this is a major reason for price wars among printers. Nevertheless, Print Mart itself plans to open outlets in Ludhiana, Agra, Meerut and Hisar soon, along with plans to install color inkjet presses.

Fallen Angel
TW: Major Character Death, Onscreen Death, Death via Fall
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The air was uncomfortably still as he ran, the only breeze coming from him pushing himself to move as fast as he could without missing anything that could potentially lead him to where she went.
Everything was taking too long.
Every step a second too long. Each leap from rooftop to rooftop an ever stretching moment.
The voices in his ear a steady reminder of how fast time was passing.
Robin had half a mind to rip the comm unit from his ear as he searched. The incessant chattering of Oracle and the rest of his family as they searched for her, spread across Gotham, on rooftops, in the sewers, on the street. Working it in precise gridlike methods.
They didn’t seem to feel the frantic urgency he did.
He came to a stop. Eyes scanning over the rooftops for anything. Any sign of her. Any sign of the League, the Court, anybody. Anywhere they could have taken her.
A small flash of light in his periphery drew his attention.
He turned, quickly scanning for where it came from, blood freezing as he saw someone- Marinette- get thrown off the roof.
—----------------------------
The two of them had barely managed to make it three blocks from the Le Grand Paris, before a thin rope managed to wrap around both of them. Tightening and pulling them up, so they were hanging upside down.
“Don’t bother trying to cut through the string. You won’t get anywhere,” a bright voice chimed.
As the duo slowly spinned around, Robin caught sight of the two Parisian heroes they'd come to talk to.
“Ladybug. Chat Noir.”
“Batman and Robin. To what do we owe the pleasure?” She asked, recalling her yo-yo, leaving the two vigilantes to catch themselves.
“Your situation has recently come to our attention. We came to offer you our assistance. Training, help, mentorship, and back up.”
“We don’t need your help. Thank you. But we’d prefer you stay out of Paris. Any of the Justice League to stay out. We have it handled-”
“Tt. You’re two children fighting a battle you can’t win.”
“You did not just call us children when you can not possibly be any older than either of us.”
“Bugaboo, calm down.”
“We have been doing this for three years now, and he is calling us incompetent.”
“It’s not my fault you two are inferior to me.”
“Robin,” Batman warned.
“It’s been a long week,” Chat Noir apologized for her. “While we appreciate your offer of assistance, it is unneeded and unwanted.”
“Consider it at least. We’ll be in Paris for the next 24 hours. Commissioner Gordan at Gotham PD can also get a hold of us if you can’t.”
Ladybug gave a smile and nodded. “Thank you. We’ll keep it in mind. Safe Travels. Batman. Robin.”
Robin scowled as he watched her leave, flinging her yo-yo out and using it to pull her across the city, her partner following behind rooftop to rooftop.
—----------------------------
He shot his grapple as he extended the line as far as it could go as he launched himself into the air, falling fast before the line when taught, pulling him towards her.
He strained reaching, stretching, extending his arm as far as he could. Desperate. She reached out for him with a soft smile, fingertips brushing just barely as he swung.
No.
Nononono.
No.
Everything seemed to freeze around him as her smile turned bittersweet, drawing her hand back in, accepting her fate.
He hung, suspended in the air by his grapple as he watched her descent. It was almost beautiful. The way the colors painted themselves in an ever shifting pattern, dancing across her arms
She looked like an angel.
An angel without her wings.
She seemed to glow against the city lights, colors streaming by, trailing behind as she fell, before vanishing, a harsh white light left to illuminate where she lay.
—----------------------------
The soft zip of her yo-yo spinning, deflecting his birdarang, as she spun, coming to face him.
“Robin.”
“What are you doing here?” he demanded.
“I live here now. And before you say anything I had a nice chat with Batman last night. Gotham needs some good luck. We both decided that it’s best if I work my magic here.”
“And he gave you free reign?”
“I don’t plan on being babysat for my time in Gotham. Right now I’m just getting the lay of the land. You’re welcome to join me if you’d like. Since you don’t seem too keen on letting me go on my own.”
“Tt. I will.”
“I hope you can keep up,” she said before throwing her yo-yo, pulling herself up and over the Gotham skyline, Robin trailing close behind.
—-
Damian barely glanced up as the door opened, he noted the unfamiliar face coming in, before turning back to his painting. A soft, hurried conversation happening at the front of the classroom, before soft footsteps hurried across the room, slowing down at his table.
“Hi. I’m Marinette.”
He glanced over, not expecting the cheerful smile directed at him as she pulled out her sketchbook and pencils, flipping open to a new page. Catching glimpses of her sketches flipping by, mainly clothing designs. He would admit they were good.
“Damian.”
“Nice to meet you.”
“Tt.”
—----------------------------
It was cruel how beautiful she looked, hair splayed out, a dark halo framing her as she lay against concrete, silent tears falling from her eyes as she looked up at him.
"Why? Why didn't you transform? Why didn't you catch yourself?" he demanded as he knelt next to her, brushing a stray strand out of her face.
"I couldn't. They took Tikki."
She coughed weakly looking up at him.
"Damian-"
"Shhh. It'll be alright. You'll be fine. It's okay, Marinette."
She shook her head giving him a pained smile. "We both know that's a lie."
"Mari-"
“Damian," her breath was shaky as she winced in pain. "I love you, Damian. I want you to know that."
He swallowed, ignoring the stinging behind his eyes as he tried to say something, anything, in reply , but she continued before he could find the words.
"I- Marinette Dupain-Cheng, hereby relinquish the Miracle Box and name- Damian al Ghul the new Guardian.”
"No!"
The bright light that flashed as she said that was blinding, the tears finally beginning to flow as he held her.
—----------------------------
“No. Nonono. Merde,” she cursed under her breath glancing around.
“What?”
“I’m about to transform back.”
“Can you make it to the top of Wayne Tower in time?”
“I should.”
“You’ll be fine to detransform there. I’ll cover you. Go.”
“You sure you’ll be fine?”
“Tt. Of course. Now go.”
She threw her yo-yo one last time, nailing one of the thugs in the head, knocking them out before throwing it once more, pulling her up as she swung through and pulled herself up and over, disappearing over the lip of the Tower.
Robin dealt with the rest of the thugs as fast as he could, tying them up and leaving them in the alley before grappling up to Wayne Towers. He landed, nearly silent as he landed, looking around, pausing at the sight of a familiar figure, sitting against the bulkhead as she dug around in her purse.
“Marinette?”
She stood, turning around with a soft yelp. Holding her purse close as she looked at him, before relaxing, making sure her purse was shut before letting it drop to her side.
“Robin.”
“You’re Ladybug.”
“You know me,” she narrowed her eyes slightly as she studied him, before giving a small smile, recognition clear in her eyes. “Damian?”
He didn’t say anything, turning away slightly as she continued.
“I should have figured it out before.”
“How?”
“The way you subtly hide injuries, for one. Another, you speak and act almost the same exact way.”
“Tt.”
“Like that.”
He huffed, eliciting a bright laugh from her.
“Does this mean we can be friends on both sides of the mask now?” she asked.
“If you insist.”
“I do.”
“We should get back to patrol.”
“Let’s go then,” she replied, smiling before she moved, running towards the edge of the roof.
He lunged after her, catching her wrist as she passed him, pulling her to a stop.
“Are you insane?” he hissed. She simply laughed, yanking her hand free from his grip.
“Not at all. Trust me,” she backed away before he could stop her, sending herself off over the edge before calling her transformation, swinging away in a bright light, leaving him to catch up.
—----------------------------
"Marinette, why?"
The look she gave him felt like a burning knife to the heart. Pain. Confusion. Fear. Her eyes searching for anything she could recognize as he held her.
"What-" she cut off as a round of coughs wracked her body. "What happened? Who are you?"
"You fell. You fell but you'll be okay. I promise. I'll make sure of it."
“I- I can’t feel my legs. Why can’t I feel them? I- I- i-” Panic leaked into her voice as her breath stuttered. Her heartbeat raced, skipping and jumping as she started hyperventilating.
“Breathe with me,” he said, trying to take deep slow breaths, pressing her hand to his heart. The two sat there in silence like that for a minute as he tried to get her breathing to slow. Hyperventilating would only make things worse. Shock. She was going to shock. No nonono.
"Thank you," she muttered, between stilted breaths.
"Rest, It'll be better when you wake up. Just close your eyes.:
Her breath rattled as she nodded, eyes drifting shut. Her heartbeat growing weaker as he held her.
In. Out.
In.
Out.
In.
Out.
Weaker each time. Slower. Shallow.
In.
Out.
In.
Out.
In.
Out.
Nothing.
She was gone.
He felt it the moment her pulse stopped, the way her body relaxed, the rhythm of her heart coming to an end.
The sob that tore itself from his throat, the capstone on her life.
—----------------------------
"Are you sure it's okay for us to be on here outside of class?"
"Of course. I often spend my free time outside of class here. Mrs. Dellebar has never had anything to say against the matter," he reassured her.
"If that's the case, I'll grab my watercolors."
He nodded, heading up to their table while Marinette grabbed a clean cup to fill with water before joining him.
The two worked in a comfortable silence,  content with the others company, for an long while before Marinette placed her brush down, giving the paint time to dry before laying on shadows and highlights.
She slid her stool closer, watching him work for a few minutes before finally speaking up.
"Is that me?"
He stopped at her sudden question, putting his paintbrush down as he took a quick breath to collect himself before looking at her.
The tips of their noses nearly brushed against each other as they turned towards the other.
Time seemed to freeze as neither one of them moved. A faint blush colored her cheeks as his heart raced.
“Dami-”
“I will see you tomorrow, Marinette,” he said, quickly standing up, turning away to hide how red his face felt.
He didn’t look back as he left the room, closing the door behind him before finally feeling as if he could breathe again. He leaned back, sliding down the door slightly as he ran a hand through his hair.
That was…. new. He was unaware when he had gained such feelings for Marinette. Surprised at how flustered he felt by that small interaction, kicking himself for running.
“Tt,” he scoffed at himself as he picked himself up. He may have blown it today but tomorrow was a different matter. He would remedy his mistakes then.
—----------------------------
Tomorrow never came.
—----------------------------
"-obin? Robin what's happening?"
"She's gone," he said, voice threatening to crack. “She's gone, and I didn't tell her that I loved her."
He recognized the sudden clamor of voices, plans and tasks being made and assigned but he wasn't listening. It was all static. A loud ringing in his ears drowning out everything around him. Time felt like it was moving through water. Slow and heavy. Pushing against him. Barely keeping from overflowing and coming crashing around him. It felt like the breath of anticipation right before the surface tension broke.
And broke it did.
The world that had shrunk down to just encompass him and her suddenly expanded, filling with the ever present sirens and city noises from blocks over. Not near them. No. They were in a construction zone. They wouldn’t be here, he noted in the back of his mind.
He barely registered whose arms were wrapped around him, gently pulling him away from her. Their grip tightening as he fought against them, pulling and twisting as tears fell, blurring the world around him into bright color and hazy images.
"Robin. D. Damian, shhh. It hurts. I know it does. It's okay, let it out."
He could barely make out the words Richard was telling him, soft reassurances and comforts as he held him.
He wanted to scream. It wasn't okay. How could it be? Richard didn't know. He didn't know his pain. How could he? He could only guess from his own experience. He didn’t know.
“Come on, just a short walk. A step away. Just to the end of the block and back. Just for a moment. Please,” Richard’s pleading voice broke through his thoughts. Damian shook his head, wrenching himself from the embrace.
“I’m not leaving her. Not unless it is to find who did this.”
“B and Hood are already going after them. Spoiler and Black Bat should be joining them soon. And Red's coming with the Batmobile so we can take her home. He should be here any minute. Just to the corner there. We won’t go far. She’ll be right there when we get back."
He relented, letting Richard guide him away reluctantly as a wave of heaviness seemed to finally sink in. Weariness hitting him. Grief and guilt etching themselves in his bones, as he spoke.
“I was so close,” he whispered.
“What?”
“I was so close. We touched. I was just too slow.”
“Damian-”
“If I hadn’t stood there trying to locate where she was exactly- If I had moved sooner- Left sooner- She was right there- I almost caught her- I-” his words caught in his throat as his mind raced, going over every little detail of the day. If he’d moved in the direction of the light instead of looking for it. If he’d left to look for her just a minute sooner. If he’d never left her alone in the art room.
It was his fault.
If he’d just done one tiny thing different she’d still be there.
It was all his fault
She was gone and it was all his fault.
“Don’t say that?”
“Why shouldn’t I?”
“Because it isn’t true. You did the best you could. That’s all you could have done.”
No. He could have done something different. Made a different choice. Not hesitated.
“It wasn’t good enough.”
“Yes. It was,” he said softly. “Damian. Don’t beat yourself up over her death. It’s not your fault.”
“Tt.”
“Damian-”
“You won’t sway me, Richard.”
His brother gave a soft sigh, tucking Damian under his arm in a small embrace. Like he was trying to protect him from the world. Far too late.
“I know I won’t. But it kills me seeing you like this.”
Damian didn’t say anything, simply turning back, Richard turning with him and began the short trek back. The Batmobile was waiting for them when they got there. Red Robin, leaning against its side as he waited for the pair.
“Hey,” Red Robin greeted the two of them, the one word was soft, heavy, bearing some of the weight of the event. “So, where is she?”
Damian’s blood ran cold at the question.
“What do you mean, ‘where is she’?” Richard asked as he pulled away from the side hug, darting to the other side of the Batmobile, the quick words flying back and forth between his brothers quickly disappearing, a deafening silence wrapping itself around him.
The sidewalk was empty.
The only sign of where she’d lain were the almost dry spots where his tears had landed.
Richard had promised she would be right there.
Another mistake of his.
He never should have left her. Not at the art studio, not at Richard’s pleading.
It was his fault.
She was gone.
He’d lost her again.
He hadn’t even finished saying goodbye.
The tears that fell were fast and hot and overwhelming as everything felt like too much. Pushing, shoving, forcing him down with the unbearable weight. Everything he’d done had been wrong. Every choice, every moment, every move. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.
He crumpled, gently laying a hand where she had been, squeezing his eyes shut.
‘I’m sorry, Marinette. I’m so sorry. It’s all my fault. I should have been there. I should have been here. I love you. And I’m sorry I never told you. I will find who did this to you. I will get Tikki back for you. I will find you and give you the final rest you deserve.
I will make up for my failures.
I am sorry I was too late.
I will right my wrongs.
If only you were still here to see it.
I will make those who did this pay.
I’m sorry, Love.
I will fix this.
All of it.’
She was gone.
It was all his fault.
She was gone.
And he would fix everything.

Probably won't be the best post but here's what I've come up with so far (ik the mention of cars n everything might sound random but I think it just fits since that kinda stuff they depend for on their families as teenagers lol)
Yh
I've already explained that he and sc are brothers + jh is his cousin and generally what he has going on but whatever. Idk not that much else has been added. He's living alone with his parents now and is basically roommates with mgi cuz he won't stop coming over to his house. Has a car and can drive. They don't rlly have any reason to go out though lol
Mgi
Mentioned earlier how he was the One only child I snuck into the cast. No siblings but he does live with his parents + grandparent(s.) I think maybe he might be a bit babied by them? But it's fine (ish.) Tbh I forgot if I decided if he can drive or not but either way no car yet
Jh
Again recall he's like living w his like. Mid grandparents. Who like 1) don't see why he would want to drive around 2) believe it's way too dangerous for him to be driving since he's hard of hearing. So no car. But I'd like to imagine he asked/asks sc at some point to secretly give him driving lessons so he could at least have Some idea of how to do it + he wanted to rebel against his grandparents lol (it was this whole thing abt sc being like r u sure u don't want me to pay for actual lessons? and jh refusing the offer idk)
So yeah he just walks around (which is fine cuz he likes being outside like that anyway) or if he Has to get a ride he prefers using jg's car / maybe even having sc drive him.
I can't remember if I mentioned already the extra stuff he does for school n everything to feel less babied by his grandparents but whatever
Jg
Tbh kind of unsure of his family stuff but for now I decided he lives w his parents + 1 or 2 siblings (he's either the youngest or middle child.) His family doesn't really get mentioned much in the story (at least for now I'm not planning on it) but I think maybe they'd be like "it's great that you have this hobby u rlly like but pretty promise you have something as a plan B in case this doesn't get you money 💀." But he does have a car + can drive so he's like the main driver of the jh + jg + woo trio
Woo
This guy has it like the hardest money wise of the gang on account that he lives w his little brother + single mom (idk what happened to their dad yet but he's not in the picture anymore) who doesn't have very good pay. No car since they can't afford it but he Can drive so he has that. I dont think he'd get along that great w his brother though so he's definitely happy to be secretly living with hwa who's like. 100x better
Sg
This girl's like rich bro no joke. She's also the youngest of 5 kids (her + boy twins + fraternal twins.) Her oldest brother isn't really around the house anymore since he's moved out and has a job n everything but her sister occasionally does crash at their place. The boys are like probably sporty highschool guys so they're kinda popular + she gets some of that recognition even if she's kind of a weirdo (she gets away with it cuz she's also pretty and very very nice.)
She like Can drive and has a car but she doesn't really care about driving around like that so most times she just lets her brother borrow it (since the twins share a car for now.)
She's like kinda a black lamb in her family like that like idk. Doesn't rlly care abt making money or future stuff she just likes to do her own stuff in her room and like watch idol stuff idfk
I was playing with the idea of her being kind of her being rlly into carmen's family since she sees how they're like a lot more caring and involved w each other. So she kinda likes to be more like carmen's sister or something like that. But idk that's not really important for now
Carmen (/helena)
Yeah she has a name now kind of. Like her friend she also has like a big / busy family and lives with her parents + 3 younger (in order oldest to youngest: brother, sister, and sister) siblings. Kind of like jh in regards to how she doesn't really have a job but instead gets paid for helping other people do stuff. They're like. Fine with money? Idk. Her mom does stuff with like event planning sometimes and helps out w like sports or school events maybe + her dad does stuff in like construction or house renovations.
Her siblings all do sports so she'll often be busy helping them w practice or going to their practices / games n stuff + whatever her mom needs help with so if she has any homework she'll usually try to get it done in class or during car rides or smth before they actually get home. No car since her mom's kind of afraid of her getting hurt on the road but her actual driving ability I haven't decided. But she does have like a bike or scooter she uses a lot (which is cool with her since she's totally into being outside too.)
Since she's so busy she doesn't take any advanced classes but she Is in like some school clubs to help her like resume or whatever I forgot. So sometimes she has to fit those in w her schedule. She also sets like. Idk maybe saturdays or sundays or smth to be like. No one can talk to her abt stuff days. Just her in her room or whatever doing stuff.
Idk this probably sounds like way more on paper than in practice trust she isn't like super stressed on the verge of a breakdown cuz of everything she kinda likes having stuff to do or like just helping ppl out in general
Ys
I have yet to think about his and hwa's pre-lab days so this is all once they've met woo + sc + jhn
Anyway no car can't drive probably no job. Not sure about schooling but they probably do figure out how to enroll him in stuff so he at least is doing something when sc + jhn are away. Maybe he does volunteering stuff or hangs out w jh (+ his friends)
He also is partly in charge of some chores around the house maybe. Idk we'll see
Tbh he has it great he's living his best life
Hwa
This guy I've done like the least amount of thinking about ever sorry. But yeah again secret roommate of woo. Idk maybe woo somehow sneaks him into school or something (not necessarily to learn alongside him but more like. Lunch buddies or something idk)
No car can't drive. Does he get a job. No clue. It'd be fun to imagine him in a job though
But he's also doing fine
Sc
Yh's older brother + jh's cousin. Lives with roommate jhn + ys and their (his) dog. College student so he's busy with that + maybe even his possible job.
Nothing rlly special going on here he's like fine. Kinda awkward when he thinks about how he's technically like ys's father figure or something but other than that he's ok with things. Loves his dog. Loves his roommate (what who said that.) Is fine with sc + ys being around so much.
Jhn
This guy really has (like jg) like no real importance to the plot so far + he's moved a little bit away from his parents to go to college so his family barely gets mentioned if at all. But they're fine he gets along with them. He maybe has a younger sister who's like. 15+ yr age difference but that's fine. Not rlly that much I've thought about. He's like one of the only (if not The only) person in his family who's gone through college (and hopefully graduate) so he has that going for him. Kinda just focused on school rn so ys + sc are kind of secondary to him or something (probably thinks they're just ppl he'll only be around for until he gets his degree if they even last that long even if he's nice to them.)
Was thinking about family things earlier in the morning. I think I accidentally went too hard with most of my guys home lives but it's fine I have mgi as my token only child to make up for it

BDBWM Day 3 | Meeting the JL
original prompt | complete masterlist
*Set Post-Hawkmoth defeat, but before Mari moves in with the Waynes. Thank you to the people over at the MGI server who suggested the subjects for each member
When Ladybug and Chat Noir arrive at the headquarters, a few Justice League members come to meet them. The two Parisian heroes can’t help but notice that the JL are feeling a little off. Tired, restless or slightly distressed.
“Why do I have a feeling you know something about this?” Chat whispers to Ladybug.
“Umm—”
“I’m doing homework right now.” Marinette props her legs up to her chest, adjusting the camera of her tablet so she can see the video call properly. “Do you happen to know anyone I can ask for help?”
“On what subject, sweetie?” Bruce asks.
“Uhh, a lot. Here, I’ll send a list to you.”
Her father hums as he scans the list. “What about your brothers?”
She wrinkles her nose. “Them? No. Not them. Any other suggestions? Do you want to help me?”
“I wish I could. Unfortunately, I have meetings lined up for the next few days. I’ll send you some contacts of mine to help.” Bruce types on his laptop. “I’ll let them know ahead of time that you’ll be calling.”
“Cool. Thanks, Dad.” Marinette looks up and gawks at the names on the list. Did he seriously send these. . .?
“I’ll tell you about it later,” Ladybug whispers back.
“I am glad that you can join us, Ladybug.” Wonder Woman steps forward and takes her hand. “The Paris situation may be solved but there are still a lot of things to take care of.”
Ladybug guiltily notes her lack of energy.
“Hello? Auntie Diana?” Marinette says after warily dialing the number.
“Marinette! Bruce said that I’ll be able to help with your History homework.” Diana says. “Ask away, dear.”
“Right, let’s see . . .”
As it turns out, she’s not any better of a teacher than Plagg. While Marinette appreciated her rambles about her own adventures, she only needs the gist of the progression of industrialization in Europe. She still patiently listens for a couple hours, however.
“You both seem so young,” Superman mumbles from his seat while hunched over a notepad.
Ladybug hides her wince. “Yeah, we get that a lot.”
“We first started when we were thirteen.” Chat casually stretches. She elbows his side.
“Uncle Clark? I got this article-writing homework . . . We have to write an essay about the Paris tragedies.”
“But that’s such a broad topic!”
“I know! I complained too, since it can bring up some traumatic memories for my classmates, but our teacher won’t budge.” Marinette shudders.
“Alright, first you have to . . .” Clark Kent then proceeds to spill his waterfall of ideas, which Marinette knows will exceed the maximum word count.
“And—wait a minute, I can just write it for you!”
“Huh? But Uncle C—”
“Don’t worry about it, I’ll have it done before your deadline.”
Something tells Marinette that he’ll be neglecting his civilian job for a while.
“Thirteen? Who allowed you children to fight a terrorist at that age?” Green Arrow frowns.
The Parisian duo sigh at the same time.
“Okay! Thanks for helping me with Physics, Uncle Ollie.” Marinette adds the units of her answer at last. “One last thing, do you mind if I ask you a bit about Math?”
“What is it?”
“It’s pretty long. Uhh, wait a sec, I’ll send you a picture.”
“What’s with these messy solutions? The answer’s wrong. You have to do it this way . . .”
“But Uncle Bars said—”
“Barry? Nevermind what he said. I’ll send in the right solutions.”
The Flash is giving the archer the stink eye. “We’re here to talk about Paris, not about their ages or qualifications.”
“Hello—”
“Marinette! You asked Oliver about your Math homework?!”
“Yeah, I just wanted a second opinion—”
“But my answer is correct!”
“Uncle Ollie said no, though . . .”
“Argh! Just wait, I’m gonna run over to him. He’s simplifying the stuff that can’t be canceled out! I already told him!”
When Ladybug fidgets a little, Chat gives her a look of suspicion. She thinks about not telling him what transpired in the span of twenty-four hours.
“How old are you both now? Seventeen? Eighteen?” Aquaman butts in to ask them. “Is an Atlantean diorama a good school project? It is, right?”
“So Uncle Art, I was thinking of having an aquaponics project for my—”
“Ha! How nice to see you curious about Atlantean culture!”
“Wait, I said aquaponics—”
“You can quote me, the king himself! What do you want to know?”
Ladybug fights back a groan and a scowl towards Batman, who’s busy working on the computer. This is all Dad’s fault.
BONUS:
“Marinette, what grade did you get for that essay?”
“. . . A fifteen out of twenty.”
“Fifteen? Out of twenty?! She gave an extensive essay written by Clark Kent, proofread by Lois Lane a fifteen out of twenty?!”

Be you’re own hero
MGI Bracket War 2: ROUND ONE
Prompt: “Write about a hero or a villain deathly afraid of doing their job.”
This could be read as romantic or platonic
Ao3
Tumblr media
“I guess this is karma getting back at us for trying to quit.” Ladybug’s head tilted upwards and banged against the stone wall behind her.
“There’s no such thing as karma.”
She raised an eyebrow at the hooded man. He was slouched against the wall parallel to her, his arm rested on his raised knee, that hand hung freely whilst the other spun his switchblade in between his fingers.
Marinette pushed herself off the wall, her arms rested on the floor in front of her.
“So what would you call this then?”
“A series of unfortunate events, fate, cursed, hexed, heresy, chance, destiny. Many different words that all end up meaning the same thing.” He flicked his knife up and caught it as it clicked into its sheath. “But you’re smart enough to know that.”
“Wow thanks,” Marinette sarcastically replied with an incredulous look on her face. “Was that meant to be a complement?”
“Tsk. Figure it out.”
Silence returned to their small cavern. Their only light being her yo-yo which is trapped between a boulder that’s blocking their exit.
“Soooooo. . .” Her voice trailed off before she popped her lips. “If you won’t call it karma, then what would you say this is?” She saw his head shift in her direction, it was too dark to see but his white masked eyes seemed to glow. She smirked at him, “You never answered my question.”
Robin whistled, “A coincidence.”
“How is that any different from karma? It’s just another synonym.”
“Karma is the belief that if you do good in life, you’ll get good things in return, the same goes if you’ve been bad. Life doesn’t work like that. It is merely a coincidence that we’re here.” He clicked his tongue and went back to flicking his knife.
“So in your opinion; a coincidence is karma that lacks hope that what we do in life matters.”
He froze. He didn’t expect that. Women had always confused him but this was different. What confused him even more was, that she showed exceptional skills in her heroism work
“I resign”
The room froze. All eyes turned to stare at the scarlet bug. Her wary eyes scanned the room and her shoulders were hunched, she was expecting a fight.
Superman was the first to speak up, “What?”
“I’ll train my replacement, I’ll even supervise them!” Words spewed out of her mouth at lightning speed, even the two speedsters in the room had trouble keeping up. “But I just can’t do this anymore.” She opened her yo-yo and took out her Justice League badge. She walked towards the large steel meeting table and placed it down with a click.
The room was packed to the brim with heroes, sidekicks and support. They were discussing an upcoming intergalactic mission. The blue holograms paused and the papers spread across the table fluttered in the light fan breeze.
“My lady.” She spun to her right, blue pigtails swishing behind her. Chat’s green eyes were welled with sadness, he approached her with a claw cradling his chest. “Why.”
She tensed, pursing her lips. “I just can’t do this anymore.” She walked out the sliding conference room doors. Those with supersonic hearing, heard her call for Kaalki to teleport her away from here. The miraculous team said their quiet goodbyes before following their leader, shell shocked.
Tumblr media
“Can you believe that?” Red Robin exclaimed, “LB! Ladybug of all people is resigning from JL!” He flopped into his gaming chair that sat before the large bat computer. He reached over to sip his coffee, his hair was falling out of his man bun, making him look more of a lunatic than usual.
Red Hood whistled, agreeing that this was unexpected. The rest stayed in silence as Tim began to ramble his ‘two days of no sleep’ rant.
Dick approached Damian, already half changed out of his uniform, spandex trailing behind him. He pulled his arm out with a pop and lowered his white singlet top. “What’s your opinion little D?”
Damian clicked his tongue, brooding over dick’s choice of nickname, ‘little D’. He was now taller than Dick yet he still got called condescending names.
“Good for her.” He succinctly said.
Tim’s rambling stopped.
“Damian?” Babs asked. She turned to look at her unofficial sibling to see what they made of Damian's reaction. She found Bruce, now dressed in loungewear, at the cave’s entrance. He raised a dark eyebrow at his youngest son, prompting him to continue, but Damian didn’t.
“Damian, do we need to have a discussion about this?”
“What’s there to discuss Father? She made a choice, and that choice is to leave heroism behind her.” He jumped up off the medical stretcher he was sitting on and walked over to the eldest Wayne. He took off his cape with one arm and placed it in his father’s hands. Bruce looked down then back to Damian, his perfect poker face masked his confusion. “Heroes and villains are being seen as black and white, grey is whatever Todd is but that’s not my point. I resign as well, Father.”
The teen tried to walk past and up the stairs but his biceps was caught. “Damian. . .” Bruce paused, licking his lips. His mouth had gone dry from all the words dying in his throat. “Out of all of you I never expected—“
“Expected me to quit?” Damian cut him off, a smirk appearing amongst the scratches on his face. “You're the Greatest Detective in the World, Father.” He stressed each syllable of Batman’s title, “Have fun figuring this out.”
Tumblr media
“What’s your favourite colour?”
“Blue.”
“Damn I had you pegged as a green guy.” Marinette chuckled, “Can I know why?”
“Tsk, who doesn’t like blue?”
She tilted her head, while his answer is correct it wasn’t his real answer; she was good at reading lies.
“True. But I asked why you liked blue.”
He clicked his tongue again. “It’s the colour of the sky.”
She smiled and settled back against her rock wall. Wiggling her body until she became comfortable, her suit kept some of the cold out but there still was discomfort.
“What’s yours?
After what felt like hours he finally was reciprocating questions back to her.
“Pink”
He clicked his tongue, “Knew it.”
Her smile scrunched up her face as she shook her head. “Of course you did, smart bird.”
She tapped her chin thinking of a new question but Robin beat her to it. “Why did you try to resign?”
“Why did you?” She teased back with a forced laugh.
“That’s classified—” he shifted, leaning towards her, arms crossed. She felt his body heat invade her personal space. “—and I asked you first.”
“I just couldn’t.”
“While that may be true, I’m asking for the reason why you resigned.”
His teasing tone went unnoticed as she drew her knees to her chest, curling up into a little ball. He had flipped her logic for the favourite colour question back onto her. “Well. . .” She broke away from her far away gaze pointed at the floor to make direct eye contact with him. His hood hung off his face now that he was leaning. She was right, his white mask eyes did seem to glow. “I never wanted to be a hero.”
He held his breath, once again caught off guard by her answer.
“I was thirteen and it was the first day back at school. Hawkmoth, Paris’ Supervillain, had manipulated one of my classmates into being an akuma. Uhhh, akumas are Hawkmoth’s minions that try to take away mine and Chat Noir’s miraculous. I found my miraculous and was forced into being Ladybug after the new student was almost crushed by a flying car.” Her chest heaved as she paused her diatribe, but Robin didn’t speak over her, he just sat there and listened.he had moved back to his original position. “There was a quote I read as a child; ‘Be the hero you needed as a child’, I was a child but I had to be the hero I needed. I couldn’t do this anymore because I already lost my childhood, I didn’t want to lose my life as well.”
“Same.”
“Huh?”
“I had the same reason for resigning.” Ladybug waited and he did indeed continue, “I was raised in the league of assassins, fighting was the first language I learnt. I know how to kill someone forty-seven ways with a spoon.” He reached down and felt along the floor between them, he cut his finger when he finally found what he was looking for. His katana was shattered into pieces, its hilt was still trapped somewhere against the boulder. “I’ve had this katana since I was ten, it was my grandfather’s last gift to be before he passed away from an assassination. Afterwards my mother took me to stay with my Father, she thought it would be safer for me. But then I became Robin.”
He let out a hollow chuckle. “All my brothers and siblings were vigilantes, some didn’t even have a background in combat, so I wanted to join them. I wanted to show them I was the best, that all the hard work I put in during my younger years didn’t go to waste.” He looked at the palms of his hands before he limply hung them again. “I guessed it did. All I wanted was for my father to be proud of me and he was, but I realised; it just wasn’t worth it anymore.”
She shifted to sit beside him, he looked down at her curiously. “May I?” She asked, and he nodded. She rested head on his shoulder and hugged his arm.
“You’re the first to ask.” He mumbled, that broke her heart.
“We both just wanted to live.” She whispered, not expecting a response.
“Yes. . .” His voice hissed, “There’s another saying I’ve heard ‘Either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain’.”
They settled into silence, their breaths evened out as they both fell asleep.
Tumblr media
A blaring siren woke them up. Her yoyo’s screen was red and showing deprecating oxygen levels, ‘Warning oxygen levels below 40%’.
“We can’t wait here any more to be saved. We need to find a way out.” Damian’s rough voice still full of sleep resounded throughout the small space. He turned to her, herher eyes disoriented from the abrupt awakening. “You should detransform so you can get your yo-yo back then we can try to come up with a plan.”
“I can’t” her voice came out panicked, her breath caught in her chest “What if the cavern collapses without it?”
Damian shifted to stand on his knees, he looked up at the rock above them and the wire caught in between it and the crevasse’s wall. “A 15mm titanium cord being removed won’t do anything to that boulder ladybug.” He tilted his head and looked at her.
“I still can’t.” Her shaking hands waved in front of her.
“Would you rather we stay here and potentially die? We haven’t heard anything from the teams; they're not coming to find us anytime soon.”
“I’d rather we find another option that doesn’t involve me losing all my memories.” She yelled, her voice echoing and causing the rock to shake. Robin dove at her, his gloved hand covering her mouth, silencing her cries. He felt her tears soak onto his hand, he stared up at her in shock.
“What. . . What do you mean?” He slowly moved his hand to her jaw, keeping it near in case she screams again and causes another tremor.
“You reveal your identity, you lose your memories. It happened to the Grand Guardian and it’ll happen to me as well. I don’t want to take that risk.” She sobbed, her breathing started to hyperventilate.
“Well what about your lucky charm?”
“We’ll have five minutes to use it then find me a place to hide and recharge my kwami. I don’t think we’ll make it Robin!” She whisper-yelled at him, her voice breaking.
He removed his hood and used his other hand to clutch her two hands in his. “How about we make a deal?” She looked up at him, cheeks red and eyes blotchy. “We be each other’s last person to save, we be our own heroes.” He took of his cape and put it around her, “And if you do detransform I promise not to look.”
“Ok.”

forelsket
For MGI Mixer 2022!
Forelsket is a Norwegian word that means the euphoria of first falling in love.
Ao3 | Masterlist
Tumblr media
There is a bench in a park somewhere in Blüdhaven. It isn't anything special, well, except for the fact it has been there since the park first opened. All the other benches in the park have needed to be replaced some time or another. But this particular one has stayed the same.
No one paid attention to it, after all, a bench is just a bench. Nothing to care about. And no one remembers when the sign first popped up. It was just there one day. The content of the sign was stupid anyway.
" The 'Happy to Chat' Bench. Sit here if you don't mind someone stopping to say hello. "
Eventually, the bench became known as the "happy" bench. And no one ever really sat there anymore. Most people did mind people stopping to say hello to them.
Some teen had probably put the sign up as a joke.
Marinette was having a bad day. A terrible one. Nothing had gone right today. She’d gone in for an interview today, and she was sure she wasn’t getting the job. It was in Gotham, which was 30 minutes away from here.
Last night, she had set her alarm to 7:00 AM just so she could wake up nice and early to get ready for the interview. But for some reason, her alarm didn’t sound, and Marinette had a sneaking suspicion that she had Plagg to thank for that.
She ended up waking up at 8:15 and had to rush because the interview was at 9:00 and it would take at least 30 minutes to get there, depending on morning traffic! At one point, Marinette thought she wasn’t going to make it.
After finally making it to Wayne Enterprises, Marinette hurried to check in with the receptionist. The whole way there, people had given her weird looks. She was so embarrassed.
And when Marinette was walking (re: speed walking) to the interview room, she bumped into someone carrying a mug full of coffee. The coffee had gone everywhere, and it ruined the person’s clothes. Some of it had scalded her hand, but Marinette hadn’t paid attention to it at the time. Her hand was bright red and swollen, and Marinette had wrapped it in bandages. She had been planning on sending a “Thank You for the Interview” email but her hand hurt too much.
It turned out the person she had bumped into was the Co-CEO of W.E., Tim Drake-Wayne ! He was the person who was supposed to be interviewing her since she applied to be his secretary! Of all days, why did her clumsiness have to act up today?
Because his clothes were ruined, he had to change into new ones and her interview was delayed. During the interview, Mr. Drake-Wayne kept assessing her, eyes sharp and shrewd, probably waiting for her to make a mistake as if she hadn’t already made enough. He asked her questions that caught her totally off guard and Marinette didn’t even remember half of what she said. She just kept on rambling.
Marinette drove home to her apartment after the interview, and all she wanted to do was lay in bed and moped. She’d messed up so badly . What was she going to do now? Well, it was back to job searching again.
She’d spent a few hours moping in bed and against her will, the kwami forced her to get out of the house and get some fresh air. Marinette ended up walking to a park that was nearby. It was cool outside. It wasn’t too hot, and not that cold, but because of the side effects of wielding Tikki, Marinette had to wear a hoodie. She looked… decent if you asked her. Tikki said she was “totally rocking the casual vibe”. Marinette had no idea where Tikki learned that from. It was probably from Adrien. Definitely.
Some kids ran past her as she walked around, giggling. Marinette realized they were playing tag. How long had it been since she had last played that? Since école primaire? Marinette wondered what it would be like to be a child again, to be young and free. Back then, she hadn’t had Hawkmoth to worry about, she had no friend drama, no boy trouble, and no need to worry about her future. Her life consisted of school and playing. But life wasn’t as simple as that. Being a child meant being blind to the world. Growing up meant putting on glasses and realizing the things you didn’t see before.
The park was quite nice. There was a row of trees that provided shade from the sun. Marinette walked along the shady path. There was so much life here. She could feel every movement in the vicinity; bees buzzing, squirrels foraging for food, children playing, people talking, dogs barking. Tikki was the kwami of Creation, and Marinette thrived off of it. It wasn’t enough to make her feel better, though.
It had been years since collège, but she was still so clumsy and accident-prone and full of bad luck. Marinette kicked a random rock with her shoe and watched as it skidded away and finally stopped. She took a seat at a random bench nearby and buried her face in her hands.
Tikki had explained it to her before, she had good luck as Ladybug, so she had not-so-good luck as Marinette. It was all about balance. But she wasn’t Ladybug anymore. Sure, Marinette still wore the earrings, but she hardly ever transformed. Most situations didn’t call for it. So couldn’t something good happen for once? Because it honestly felt like her luck as Marinette had been getting worse recently.
Sighing, Marinette pulled her knees up to her chest and hugged them tightly. She gently rocked back and forth. Leaving Paris had been hard. Leaving her maman and papa was tough. Paris was where she grew up, and Marinette had always imagined living there until her hair turned gray. What was she doing in Blüdhaven, of all places? She was lost, so lost , and Marinette didn’t know who to go to for help.
Everyone she loved was an ocean away, and they were probably asleep right now. The kwami were fun to talk to, and Wayzz always had some words of advice to give, but being literal miniature gods, they didn’t always understand “human” things. And she had just moved to Blüdhaven, she knew no one here. Not really.
Marinette sighed again and let go of her legs. She decided to do some people-watching. Maybe that would take her mind off of things…
The children who were playing tag earlier were now playing hide-and-seek. Marinette watched with a small smile as the children hid. The places they hid were so obvious , of course, they were going to get caught. Was this how her parents viewed her as a child when she tried to “hide”? It was cute, watching them, and seeing how surprised they were when they were found.
She was so caught up in watching the kids that she didn’t know someone else had joined her on the bench. It only came to her attention when she heard a bark right next to her.
“Haley!” A man’s voice scolded.
Looking to her right, Marinette met the eyes of the owner of the voice. Their eyes were blue, just like hers. He smiled at her. She tried to smile back.
“Hi!”
“...hi,” Marinette waved, half-whispering.
“Sorry about Haley, she saw a squirrel and got excited,”
“Oh don’t worry about it,” and Marinette turned to look at Haley.
Haley had blue eyes, too, and gray and white fur. But her right foreleg…
The man seemed to notice where she was looking and said, “She was like this when I found her. I’m not sure what happened to her leg. I rescued her from some teenagers who were making fun of her missing a leg.”
“That’s terrible! I mean, them making fun of her just because she’s missing a leg. There’s nothing wrong with that. I’m glad you saved her.”
“Well, I’m glad too,” the man looked at Haley, “but it does take some energy to look after her. I wouldn’t trade Haley for any other dog in the world, though.”
Nodding her head, Marinette added, “Yeah, taking care of animals can be tough. I know a guy who has a crocodile for a pet. The crocodile’s name is Fang. But, growing up, I never had any pets,”
“Really? A crocodile? Wow. May I ask why you never had a pet?”
Marinette didn’t know why she was so willing to have a conversation with a complete stranger, but it was sort of nice to chat with someone who didn’t know who she was, didn’t know her past, and didn’t have too many expectations of her. So she indulged him.
“I’m not from around here. I actually grew up in Paris. My parents own a bakery, so having a pet would be a safety hazard. One of its hairs could end up in a customer’s food and that would be bad. I always wanted a hamster though.”
“That’s really cool. I bet the bakery always smells amazing . My grandfather cooks and whenever I come over, there’s always something being made in the kitchen. It sucks that you couldn’t have a pet because of that. Hamsters are really cute! And, you know, my little brother actually has a collection of pets. He has a dog, a cat, and even a cow and a turkey!”
“Really? Your little brother must really love animals,”
The man turned to look around the park. He had a fond smile on his face. “Yeah, he does,”
He must really love his family.
They didn’t say anything for a couple of minutes. Marinette spent that time watching the man. He was… handsome, caring, and a nice person to talk to. Talking with him had actually made her feel better.
“So,” Marinette began, and the man turned back towards her again. “Can I pet Haley?”
“Why don’t you ask her?”
She tilted her head to the side, to convey her confusion. The man laughed. “Just watch,”
He held his hands out towards Haley and she readily climbed into his arms, her tail wagging.
“Hold your arms out. If Haley moves toward you, you’re good to pet her. But if she moves away, you shouldn’t. Haley sometimes has trouble trusting new people because of her past,”
The man set Haley down and Marinette gave it a try. Holding her arms out, she waited to see Haley’s reaction. But Haley didn’t move. She didn’t move towards her, but she also didn’t move away from her. Getting the hint, Marinette put her hands down.
“By the way, I was wondering, why’d you sit at the Happy Bench?”
“The what?”
He nodded towards a sign on the bench, one that she hadn’t noticed when she first sat down.
" The 'Happy to Chat' Bench. Sit here if you don't mind someone stopping to say hello. "
“I mean, I was just wondering, since most people steer clear of this bench, but now that I think about it, you told me that you’re from Paris, so you probably didn’t know.”
Well, this was sort of embarrassing.
“Actually,” Marinette hesitated, “I didn’t notice the sign when I sat here. I was having a bad day, so I went here to get some fresh air. I walked around for a while and sat here to rest. I completely missed the sign,”
“Really? I hope your bad day gets better. May the rainy clouds over your head turn into sunshine and rainbows!”
“It already has, thanks to you,” she admitted.
The man looked surprised. “Oh, well, I’m glad I could do that for you! And, I’m sorry if I’m being too nosy, but do you want to talk about what happened?”
“I don’t mind. I actually had an interview today, but I totally ruined it. I bumped into someone and they were holding a cup of coffee at that time. The coffee ruined their clothes and my hand got burnt,” Marinette held up her bandaged hand when she said the last part.
“And, get this, the guy I stumbled into turns out to be the Co-CEO of W.E., Mr. Drake-Wayne! I applied to be his secretary and I spilled his coffee on him! I had to sit through the entire interview with him and I was mortified . I don’t even remember most of the things I said during the interview. God that’s got to be the most embarrassing thing ever . There’s no way I’ll be getting the job, which means I need to go searching again.”
“Wait, you got an interview at Wayne Enterprises? Wow, I heard that to even be asked to go in for an interview there is pretty impressive. You must be someone really talented. And you spilled coffee on the Co-CEO?”
The man’s eyes lit up for some reason at the mention of W.E. and Mr. Drake-Wayne, and Marinette wasn’t quite sure why. Ehh, she mentally shrugged. Just roll with it.
“Yeah, I guess so, but as I said, I ruined it. I hope he was okay. He didn’t seem to show any pain after getting splashed. I don’t know if he was just hiding his pain or genuinely didn’t feel anything. He’s so young, I guess I just can’t help but worry.”
He didn’t really say anything in response and just nodded his head. Haley barked again, and Marinette decided to try and see if she would let her pet her again.
Holding her arms out, she waited for a few seconds, and it looked like Haley wasn’t interested in getting petted, but a few moments later, Haley nuzzled her head into her arms.
“ Awww ! Haley is so adorable !”
Marinette petted Haley on the chest, neck, and shoulders. Her fur was so soft and warm and well looked after.
“Who’s a good girl?” She teased, and Haley let out a high-pitched. “That’s right Haley, you are,”
“Hahaha, don’t take Haley away from me!”
Batting her eyelashes at the man, she joked, “Oh, I could never ! But I can’t help it if Haley likes me better,”
“I’m sure Haley still loves me more. She can recognize who her owner is. Isn’t that right, Haley?”
Haley didn’t budge an inch from her arms. The man gasped, “How could you Haley? I thought you loved me!”
She couldn’t help but giggle. “There’s no need to be that dramatic. Haley does love you. Just not as much as me,”
“I have never been more betrayed in my life! My own dog, preferring someone else over me!”
Marinette was about to say something when the streetlamps turned on. The sky was getting darker, and more people were leaving the park, rather than going in.
Had it really been that long?
The man beside her noticed it, too. “Ah, I should get going now, I have plans with my family tonight. It was nice talking to you! Guess I’ll see you around,”
“Bye,” she waved.
Once he disappeared from sight, Marinette stood up. The sign caught her eye, and Marinette gazed at it, smiling. This bench was a lucky one. It cheered her up through the form of a man and his dog.
“Marinette!! Wake up!!” A bright and cheery voice urged, tugging on her blanket.
“Mmhm,” she grumbled, “five more minutes, Tikki,”
“Come on… you need to wake up! You got an email from Wayne Enterprises! It says so on your phone,”
“ What ?”
In an instant, she was up, and Marinette grabbed her phone off the table next to her bed. Sure enough, there was an email. The surprise drained out of her and Marinette slumped. It was probably sent as a courtesy, there was no way she’d gotten the job. But Marinette looked at it anyway.
Dear Ms. Dupain-Cheng, After careful consideration on my part, I would like to offer you the position of being my secretary. To confirm your acceptance of this job offer, please fill out the attached forms and email them to this account. Further details will be provided after the needed forms are signed. Please email any questions or concerns you may have to me. I look forward to our next meeting. Sincerely, Timothy Drake-Wayne Co-CEO of Wayne Enterprises
“ What ?!” She repeated, this time in a different tone. How was this possible? Hadn’t she completely bombed the interview? Marinette decided that maybe it was best to just not question it.
Getting to her feet, Marinette hurriedly made her bed and changed out of her pajamas. She walked out of her bedroom and to her office, where her laptop was and opened up the email again. Okay, this wasn’t a dream, she had actually gotten the job! And it looked like she had lots of paperwork to fill out… Groaning, Marinette got to work.
“Good morning Ms. Dupain-Cheng,” her new boss greeted her.
“Good morning Mr. Drake-Wayne!” Marinette said, from where she was sitting at her desk. “You have a meeting with the Board at 11:00 AM and I just forwarded a proposal from the Head of the Marketing Department for you to review. I’ll send someone to bring you a cup of coffee as well.”
Mr. Drake-Wayne smiled, “Thank you Ms. Dupain-Cheng, I don’t know how I’d do it without you,”
Marinette waved his words off, “You’ve been doing fine before I joined the company, and I’m just doing my job,”
Her boss entered his office and they both got to work. Marinette’s job mostly consisted of reading and sending emails, scheduling appointments, keeping Mr. Drake-Wayne on track, among other things.
Eleven o’clock came sooner than expected, and he was off to his meeting. Marinette sent him well wishes. The Board consisted mostly of stuffy old rich white men who only thought about themselves and their money. They were a pain to deal with.
After a no doubt excruciating hour and a half, Mr. Drake-Wayne came trudging back to his office. She took pity on him, and sent for one of the interns to bring him another cup of coffee. He looked eternally grateful for it.
Honestly, Marinette had no idea what Bruce Wayne had in mind by placing the weight of his company on his son’s shoulders. Sure, the two of them were “Co-CEOs”, but Mr. Drake-Wayne was the only person at the company everyday. Maybe Mr. Wayne did do some things behind the scenes but everything else was all Mr. Drake-Wayne.
He was younger than her and under so much pressure. Her boss pulled countless overnighters at the company. During their busiest times, he didn’t even go home! He just slept in his office. Mr. Drake-Wayne wasn’t getting much sleep though. There were always dark circles under his eyes, and kwami knows how much caffeine he consumed. He was running himself ragged, and Marinette didn’t know how much longer he could keep up. And Marinette would be the last to say that Mr. Drake-Wayne wasn’t capable at doing his job, but people have limits.
She shook her head. One day, Marinette was going to have to stage an intervention.
Lunch rolled around soon enough and Marinette had gone to the employee’s lounge to grab her food from the refrigerator. One of her colleagues invited her to have lunch with the rest of them, but she declined. Eating by herself meant getting some work done at the same time. Another time, she’d told her co-worker.
Marinette sat at her desk tapping away on her laptop. She stopped every few minutes to eat her lunch. Marinette was so engrossed in her work that she didn’t notice someone had come up to her desk until they cleared their throat.
“Oh!” she exclaimed in surprise. “It’s you,”
The man from the park a few weeks ago looked back at her. He waved. “Hi, and yeah, it’s me,”
“Can I help you with something?”
“Actually, I came to check on you. I wanted to see how you’re adjusting to working as a secretary,”
She raised an eyebrow. Why was he checking on her? And how did he know she got the job? There was something fishy going on here.
“I’m doing fine,”
He beamed at her. “Great! I-”
Before the man could finish his sentence, Mr. Drake-Wayne came out of his office. “Dick? What are you doing here?”
“I was just visiting, Tim,”
“I’m not letting you take my coffee away from me!”
“I’m not here to do that!”
Mr. Drake-Wayne crossed his arms. “Then what are you here for? To see Marinette?”
“Yes, actually,”
Marinette glanced back and forth at Mr. Drake-Wayne and the man. Her boss had said his name was Dick?
“Uh,” she started awkwardly, and the two turned to look at her, “do you two know each other?”
“Dick is my brother. I’m sorry if he did anything to bother you. Feel free to kick him out,”
“Hey!” Dick squawked indignantly.
“It’s fine! He hasn’t bothered me at all. You should go eat your lunch now, you have another meeting at 2:00 PM.”
Her boss groaned but moved along.
Once he was gone, Dick turned back to her.
“Soo, your name is Marinette?”
She nodded. “And yours is Dick?”
“Yeah.”
Dick was Mr. Drake-Wayne’s older brother, and they’d met at that park and一
“Wait,” Marinette blurted out, and then she narrowed her eyes at Dick. “Are you the reason I got this job?”
“No… I just asked Tim about you…” Dick looked away sheepishly.
“You convinced Mr. Drake-Wayne to hire me?”
Becoming Mr. Drake-Wayne’s secretary was a miracle for her, and Marinette had thought she’d just been lucky. But it turned out someone had been pulling the strings for her. She had to admit that it disappointed her a little.
“I didn’t! When I asked him about you, he told me he was already planning on hiring you! I didn’t convince him to do anything, I swear. You can ask Tim!”
He sounded so earnest, and Marinette sighed. “Okay, let’s say I believe you. What’s your actual reason for visiting? If you wanted to check on me you could just ask Mr. Drake-Wayne, since he’s your brother,”
“Well, Haley’s been whining to see you again, so I was wondering if you had the time to meet?”
Marinette turned pink. “Do you mean this as a date or…” she trailed off.
“A-as a date, that is, if you want it to be,”
She considered his words. Dick fidgeted, as if he was nervous to hear her decision. It didn’t take her long to figure out what she wanted.
“Yeah, I’d like that,”
Dick instantly lit up. “Really? That, that’s great!”
She nodded. “We can figure out the details later, outside of working hours. Here’s my number,”
“Alright, I’ll text you when you’re free!” And then Dick left.
Once he did, Marinette couldn’t stop the giddy smile that spread across her face. But she had to control herself when Mr. Drake-Wayne came back from lunch.
He noticed his brother left. “Everything good, Ms. Dupain-Cheng?”
“Yes, Mr. Drake-Wayne, everything’s good. More than good, even,”

Strangeness and Charm
MGI 2021 One-Year Anniversary Gift Exchange
hello, im back for a little post for @khneltea you are the recipient for enemies to lovers and by gods i hope you like this! romantic, or well its implied, daminette enemies to lovers! also tagging @issaxcharlie as per requested in the server!
fic is under the cut!
Marinette understood that the bat team was sent to Paris to help her; now that it was just herself against Papillon, but she really wanted to kick Robin’s teeth in. She couldn’t stand him. He was a self-centered, entitled, little shit. How dare he come into her city and tell her how to do her job?
The akuma attacks had been sporadic since she had revoked Chat Noir’s miraculous and the only attack that had occurred since Robin and the rest of the bats had arrived was Mister Pigeon. However, if she was being honest with herself that hardly counted as an attack in her or anyone’s books anymore.
It took all of her self control to not throttle him on the rooftop, after she had cast the miraculous cure, when he said “If this is what qualifies as an attack for you, I would hate to see how you would fare against even one of Gotham’s villains.” She was livid, he had based his opinions on akuma attacks by one attack and one attack only.
He had only been in Paris for a week and this is how he treated her, because of one little flare up by their resident akuma magnet? He had no idea what even counted as an attack in Paris nowadays.
Mister Pigeon? Definitely not.
Siren? Absolutely.
Due to him being close to her in age, she had constantly paired up with him during her nightly patrols and she hated it. She wondered if this was his team's way of trying to get him to socialize or work on his people skills. If so, they were doing an absolutely shit job of it.
At this point she really had debated whether or not being on Batman’s shit list would be worth dangling Robin from the Eiffel Tower by his ankles. She could do it. She knows she could, she had done it before in fact, to Chat before she took his miraculous away from him. In the end, she decided that it wouldn’t be worth the trouble it would cause her; but if she did accidentally hit him with her yo-yo while patrolling with him that night, no one would be the wiser.
She elected to ignore the muttered curses and detoured from her usual route in an attempt to get away from the miserable bastard. Of course, Robin then scolded her for running away and being an inferior hero. At that point she decided to put even more distance between them, only to prevent herself from injuring a potential ally. If he could even be called that with his constant berating and demeanor.
It was then that she heard a scream, an akuma. Kwami, she hoped it wasn’t Sandboy again, especially since his usual appearances were during the night.
She cast a quick glance at Robin and decided to leave him be. She took off in the direction of the scream, he was preoccupied by something on his gauntlet, if the blue light it was emitting was an indicator. Besides she had been fighting akumas for years now, the last thing she needed was Robin’s attitude and chiding rather than his help.
He didn’t need to see her nightmares either if it was in fact Sandboy who was akumatized as well.  Sure, she wasn’t exactly the same thirteen year old girl she was when she first started battling akumas but Robin certainly didn’t need any more ammunition to use against her.
He didn’t need to see that her nightmares were of herself, whispering in her ear, telling her to give up. That she was a failure, that she should just let Papillon have the miraculous. It would all be over, it wasn’t like she would remember that she was Ladybug anyways. Whatever wish he would make would erase the current timeline out of existence. She hated seeing it.
When she touched down on the street, the first thing she noticed was that it was empty. There was no sign of any akuma, no destruction or frozen bodies. There wasn’t anything, it was too empty, as if the people had just up and disappeared. It was incredibly unnerving.
Casting another look around, she saw something dart into the shadows of an alleyway. She jumped to a neighboring rooftop and looked down. There it was, the akuma. They didn’t look like anything special, no obnoxious colours or outrageous outfits. Just someone in a simple, sleek suit in muted colours, their hair tied back in a dark braid and a drooping butterfly mask that looked like ruined eyeliner.
They looked up and made eye contact. She flung herself back on the rooftop. The akuma’s eyes looked empty, there was no emotion or life in them. It was disconcerting.
She looked back down into the alleyway to try to get another read on the akuma. They were gone. She rose to her feet and looked around again, just in case she missed something.
“Well, well, well. Look at what we have here,” a low, gravelly voice called out. It sounded as if they had gargled glass. Marinette quickly turned around to see the akuma at the other end of the rooftop. “A little ladybug all alone. Let us see what kind of memories you hold, heroine.”
Then suddenly the akuma was in front of her, arm outstretched and their hand was pressed against her forehead. She watched as her memories played out in real time before her and the akuma. She watched as her memories played side by side, all at once. It was headache inducing.
Marinette saw the first friend she made in almost a decade. She saw Lila threaten her and her friendships. She saw the day she had met Tikki, and the day she had received guardianship of the miracle box from Fu. She watched as flashes of her homelife flashed by, the few happy memories of her parents before the bakery’s popularity increased, before they began to neglect her. Before Lila’s honeyed words ruined what little she had left of them.
She watched as memories of previous akuma attacks played out. Of how Chat Noir acted away from the crowds and cameras, how treated her like an object to be won rather than a person. She watched as she had scrubbed herself raw in the shower after he had touched her, as she scrubbed her teeth after he forced a kiss on her.
She watched as the attacks ended and her reunions with her friends had turned into screaming fits. The shouts of how she was flakey and that if she was just going to hang out with them only to ditch them halfway through their time together that they were no longer going to be friends anymore, that they were better off without her. She watched as Lila smiled from across the room, where she comforted her former friend. As Lila’s promises came to fruition.
She watched as her nightmares flashed by just as quick of her looking in the mirror, looking at the scars that the miraculous cure hadn’t healed. As her reflection had started to speak. That she should give up, let Papillon have the miraculous. That she wasn’t worth it, that she was all alone. As the whispered words of her former friends had joined in. She watched as images of Chat had appeared telling her that she was his and no one else’s.
She watched as she was left to pick up the pieces of her life.
Suddenly she was wrenched back and someone was holding her against their person. She could see one of the bat-themed vigilantes fighting against the akuma, it looked to be Red Hood with the way the streetlight was glinting off his helmet. She could hear herself breathing heavily and could feel the tears streaming down her face as she was swung away from the akuma.
When the person holding her landed on a different rooftop, she wrenched herself out of their arms. She hit the rooftop with a thud and scrambled as far away from them as she could possibly get; then she buried her face in her knees. She covered her ears with her hands, hoping to block out the unrelenting images of her memories and nightmares. She didn’t want to see or hear anything. She certainly didn’t want to see anyone’s pitying looks or hear their scorn. She just wanted to forget, this akuma was most definitely Papillon’s newest masterpiece.
She flinched when a hand settled on her shoulder and tried to inch away from it, without removing her hands from her ears. Unfortunately, the hand remained, grounding her ever so slightly. Finally she gave in and looked up. Robin was watching her, but rather than disdain or pity, his face was pinched with concern. She huffed out a laugh, it was weak and made Robin flinch. She shrugged his hand off and stood; she held her head high and wiped her tears away. Ignoring his questioning looks, she tossed her yo-yo out.
“Ladybug,” he said softly.
“Don’t. Whatever you have to say, keep it to yourself. I don’t care,” she croaked. She didn’t want to hear anything he had to say, she just wanted to be done with this night and its horrors.
“Ladybug,” he repeated. “Regardless of whatever you might think or feel, you are not alone. There are plenty of other heroes who know exactly how you feel, who have been exactly where you are.”
That stopped her in her tracks. Of course Robin of all people had seen her memories, her nightmares and her fears. She turned and glared at him, though she imagined it wasn’t all that effective. What with her tear streaked face and red eyes.
“I know how you feel,” Robin sighed and she deflated. “That your best is not enough, that you, yourself are not good enough. I have been in your shoes. I have felt alone.”
“Well, you certainly don’t act like it,” she sniped bitterly, closing in on herself.
“I apologize,” Robin stated.
“What?”
“I am sorry,” he repeated. “I realize that I may have come off as too brusque and in doing so have diminished your accomplishments.”
“Why?” she asked. “Why are you apologizing? You have nothing to be sorry for. You were right, I don’t know what I’m doing. I’m just playing at being a hero. My villain just found out my identity and so did all of you and your team.”
“That being, it was not, nor is it, your fault,” he replied. “I made assumptions of which I am at fault for, and of which caused the predicament of which you have found yourself in. You cannot quit or give up because of several imbeciles, because if you do, you let them win. You do not strike me as a sore loser, Ladybug.”
Marinette let out a laugh and watched as Robin’s expression shifted. He no longer looked concerned, but was now smiling wryly at her. She returned the smile. “Thank you Robin.”
“You are welcome,” he said. “Now I believe you have an akuma to take care of? Would you care for some assistance?”
“I would,” she replied.
“I look forward to working with you more,” he said, “Marinette.”
Marinette nodded, feeling her face flush at the way Robin said her name. “I do too Robin. I do too.”

Talk So Pretty, But Your Heart Got Teeth
AYO another day another oneshot as a part of the MGI Trope Tussle! BUT WAIT THERES MORE thanks to @nightlychaotic for letting me continue her oneshot that can be found HERE!
Fics Masterlist
Dickinette Oneshot 2.8K words
Summary:
“Nightwing was desperate to figure out Kit Noire. For reasons beyond professional.”
without further ado:
Some days, you're the only thing I know
Only thing that's burning when the nights grow cold
Can't look away, can't look away
Beg you to stay, beg you to stay, yeah
It had been two weeks since Nightwing had last seen Kit Noire. While the lack of thefts and reported break-ins was doing wonders for his day job, he found his nightlife severely lacking its usual luster. He had done some research into her powers, cross-referencing with some of his more magically inclined coworkers. Aquaman had an interesting story about some god of destruction but it was Atlantean lore that led nowhere. He was drawing blanks on what his next move was going to be. Conflicted on whether to bring her to justice or to help her get justice.
His team was of no help either. Batman was adamant on chasing her out of Gotham, her destructive powers too dangerous in the city, while his siblings were more engrossed in teasing him about his affections for the cat thief. Jabs about ‘learned behaviour’ and ‘truly being the next Batman’ went ignored for his own piece of mind. He loathed to admit it but his intrigue in her, his adamance to be involved with her case, stemmed from less professional intentions. He was compromised in this investigation but he was unwilling to relent to anyone else.
Kit Noire was his to solve.
Sometimes, you're a stranger in my bed
Don't know if you love me or you want me dead
Push me away, push me away
Then beg me to stay, beg me to stay, yeah
He finally found her one night by the Gotham Harbour. She was in the middle of an altercation with the same guy who had stolen some grimoire from her. ‘Guardian’ he had called her.
Rather than intervene immediately, Nightwing hung back in the shadows, observing the two of them. The man was obviously much older than her and was particularly equipped to combat her style of fighting. He used what appeared to be a wooden staff and was dressed in Buddhist-inspired robes. Another piece to add into his investigation.
Their fight was approaching a stalemate, neither willing to yield to the other. Nightwing decided to make his presence known. A couple smoke bombs were tossed into the fray, halting the fight. Taking the opening, he jumped in between and threw two bolas at the old man. He was wrapped securely in the wires and collapsed gracelessly on the planks. Not giving him anymore attention, he moved to intercept Kit Noire; choosing the evil he knew over the one he didn’t.
“Sorry, songbird.” She spoke with more bite than usual, her frustration with the older man still clinging to her. “But I already have plans tonight. None that involves you sadly.”
“What?” His casual drawl, partnered with his carefully crafted smirk did nothing to placate the hissing cat in his arms. “I can’t let the kitty have all the fun.”
“Please,” she scoffs; she slackens in his hold only fractionally. “As if I need a little birdy like you to give me permission to do anything.”
She slipped under his grasp and shot a leg up directly into his chin. He was taken completely by surprise and before he could react, one of his own smoke bombs was thrown at his feet. He was disoriented and by the time he switched his mask to infrared, she was already gone with the older man. His discarded bolas were the only thing that remained between the clearing haze of smoke.
Call me in the morning to apologize
Every little lie gives me butterflies
Something in the way you're looking through my eyes
Don't know if I'm gonna make it out alive
He was pulling into the precinct parking lot for his morning shift with a poorly concealed bruise on his jaw and excuses already on his tongue for how it got there. His ego wasn’t fairing much better but that was concerns for his punching bag back at his home gym. Now, he was Dick Grayson, rookie cop at the GCPD. Now, his nighttime problems can’t reach him.
Or so he thought.
He didn’t make it ten feet into the building before detective Montoya was slamming a file into his chest. He quickly glanced into the file, partially listening to her debriefing of the case, then immediately wished he hadn’t. In the file there were pictures taken from the most recent crime scene and sitting on top of the pile was a picture of a wall from the local aviary. The words ‘Sorry about last night, Songbird -KN’ were spray painted in steel blue.
He felt his irritation flare as heat crept up his neck while a weight settled in the base of his spine. His warring feelings drowned out everything around him as he fixated on her very obvious declaration. Kitty Noire had been gaining infamy for never being caught by both the cops and the bats. Some in the precinct hadn’t believed she was actually real, just some urban legend the streets were stirring up to cause trouble. To let herself be caught like this, and to admit to contact with one of the bats— it didn’t take a genius to guess which side of the law she was calling out with ‘songbird’— was damning to say the least.
Fight so dirty, but your love's so sweet
Talk so pretty, but your heart got teeth
Late night devil, put your hands on me
And never, never, never ever let go
Fight so dirty, but your love's so sweet
Talk so pretty, but your heart got teeth
Late night devil, put your hands on me
And never, never, never ever let go
It was another week before he was crashing into her midleap, throwing both of them down onto the nearest roof. They rolled a couple of times before he stopped them by pinning her down. Both of her arms were held above her head; his grips were tight around her wrists, avoiding her palms in fear of what her destructive powers could do. They were on top of the platform that had the doorway to the building’s stairs. Her distracting smirk curled up further as she was about to speak. Probably a suggestive comment but he wasn’t in the mood for their usual back and forth.
“Enough games, Noire.” He shifted his knees to brace on her shins, in case she had any ideas. “You need to tell me what’s going on. You’re bringing suspicious people into the city, dangerous people, and it’s my job to drive them out.”
“I’m not bringing anyone into the city,” she all but spat at him, the fury in her eyes burned bright at the accusation. “He tracked me here.”
“And he is…?” He was getting tired of being out of the loop, meta-abilities and magic are safety hazards if left unchecked in Gotham. He needs to put a lid on this before it spirals any further.
“He is my business and soon to be not a problem for the both of us.”
“Why should I believe you?”
“You have no other choice, songbird. Above your paygrade, remember?” She mumbles something he doesn’t hear but from the shape of her lips it looked like Cataclysm. He didn’t have time to react before the roof was caving in under them.
The freefall was disorienting but he could see from his periphery that Kit Noire was prepared. She had extended her staff out to fit between two walls and was hanging on, dangling over what was probably twenty flights of steps. Nightwing wasn’t so lucky and he had to angle his fall to crash into steps a couple flights below her.
“It was nice crashing into you, songbird, but I have things to steal and people to rob.” Retracting her staff, she let herself freefall to the bottom floor of the building. Nightwing dove after her, shooting out his grappling line to one of the higher railings. She had reextended her staff, this time aiming for the height of the building, and was sliding down it like a pole. Banishing the improper thoughts of ‘Noire’ and ‘pole,’ he questioned how the staff was even able to extend that far.
Right, magic.
Once they were more comfortable feet above the bottom floor, she paused in her descent and let him over take her. He wasn’t given a chance to question her actions as she immediately swiped at his grappling line, snapping it with her rather sharp claws. This time he was prepared enough to brace himself for the fall. He landed on his feet and crouched to roll out of the harsh impact.
“I thought it was cats that landed on their feet, not birds,” her jeer echoed against the walls. He looked back up to see her rapidly climbing her staff. She was gaining distance fast and he was running out of options just as quickly. He didn’t trust climbing her staff so he took to climbing the steps from the railings, jumping and swinging himself around to gain altitude.
“Maybe you’re rubbing off on me.” She had made it to the door that led back to the roof and her staff retracted in an instant. He was still a couple flights away but he knew he wasn’t going to catch her. He resigned himself to knowing that tonight was another failed night. He had let her go again.
Some days, you're the best thing in my life
Sometimes when I look at you, I see my wife
Then you turn into somebody I don't know
And you push me away, push me away, yeah
Something Kit Noire had said was bothering him. She said she was a hero once. That she had given it up because of accusations that ruined her reputation. He had half a mind to not believe her. Write it off as one of her tricks to try and get under his skin. But the other half, the louder, more desperate half, implored him to keep searching. To uncover the cat themed enigma he had grown frustratingly fond of.
He expanded his search, looking for anything or anyone cat themed with destructive powers. A deep web search had him discovering an old video. It was labeled ‘Reflectdoll’ and nothing else. It was a part of some long forgotten blog that had an entire catalogue of videos labeled in similarly vague ways. Desperate for answers, he rationalised that if anything else, he would cross this source and narrow the search further.
The video was quite the fanfare, looking something out of a movie with impressive CGI. He was about to label this video as another bust but something paused him in his tracks. Her. Kit Noire, or at least a younger version of her, lept into the action. Her and some ladybug patterned partner dealt with the fiasco and Nightwing watched, enthralled and hopeful, as the two worked to take down the foe. He was both impressed and even more confused because he recognised that infamous tower but had no memories of there ever being attacks of that caliber in the city of love. He had done several missions there over the years, and there was never any call for help or an attack to get his or the League’s attention.
Just what was going on?
Call me in the morning to apologize
Every little lie gives me butterflies
Something in the way you're looking through my eyes
Don't know if I'm gonna make it out alive
Fight so dirty, but your love's so sweet
Talk so pretty, but your heart got teeth
Late night devil, put your hands on me
And never, never, never ever let go
He had her pinned again, one of his hands holding both of hers above her head, the other was fisting her braid in a tight pin. They were staring at each other, neither wanting to tip the scales in their own favor. The air was charged and each breath felt like one step closer to a dangerous precipice. Nightwing was struggling with what to do. He had a responsibility to this city. This was his home. And he was letting some magical ex-hero trample all over it because he let his infatuation get to his head. He was too involved but he didn’t care. She was his case to solve.
“Something you would like to share, songbird?” Her smirk was enticing and infuriating. He couldn’t look away.
“I have a lot on my mind.”
“What? Is keeping me here not entertaining enough for you?”
“I’m not keeping you here for entertainment.”
“That could be rearranged.” She had surged up to kiss him, her lips soft and inviting. He would be a fool to pass up the opportunity.
Blood on my shirt, rose in my hand
You're looking at me like you don't know who I am
Blood on my shirt, heart in my hand
Still beating
She was hurt. The old man found her again and left her with a painful reminder of who she was up against. Nightwing wished he could track him down and beat him to bloody pulp but right now he was more concerned with patching her up. She was lucky he found her when he did. The gash on her side would be easy to stitch but he first needed to get her to somewhere safe. His options were limited. No clinic would take them in, she was still a notorious criminal after all. Batman would have his head if he brought her to any of their safe houses. The cave was completely out of the question.
But she was still losing blood.
“Why the long face, songbird?” Her voice which was usually jovial was tinted with strain.
“Oh, you know, just getting blood on my suit while a cat bleeds out in my lap.” He tried to lighten the mood and her chuckles were relieving.
“Sorry.”
“Don’t apologize. Just need to find somewhere to put you.”
“Oh, is the birdy worried about his kitty cat?” She was teasing him, he knew, so he decided playing along would do more for his own peace of mind than trying to refute.
“And if he is?” He mirrored her own joking tone but he couldn’t help the taxes of sincerity that slipped in. She caught on if the slight widening of her eyes were an indicator.
“Oh.” The stunned look she had on her face would be adorable if it weren’t for their situation. “I have a place, not far from here you can drop me off there.”
“Lead the way,” he said, picking her up bridal style. If he pulled her closer as she wrapped her arms around his neck then no one had to know.
Fight so dirty, but your love's so sweet
Talk so pretty, but your heart got teeth
Late night devil, put your hands on me
And never, never, never ever let go
Fight so dirty, but your love's so sweet
Talk so pretty, but your heart got teeth
Late night devil, put your hands on me
And never, never, never ever let go
Nightwing never noticed this before but Kit Noire was small. Her waist fit in the palms of his hands so well and her legs were slender and lean as they tied themselves around his hips. He looked like he could overwhelm her but he knew better. He knew how strong and dangerous she was but the mental image of just holding her down as she submits beneath him spurred him on further. Her lips were cherry sweet and intoxicating. And her weight on his thighs left him reeling, silently begging for more.
“Someone’s eager,” she had pulled away from his mouth to speak but rather than entertain any conversation he just moved to suck bruises into her jaw. The hand she had in his hair tightened and pulled at the short strands. Her breathing became laboured as she pants into the night sky. He wanted to coax out more reactions from her, wanted to see if she can really mewl like a cat.
A wayward hand had her grinding down harder in his lap. They were in their own bubble on this abandoned rooftop; it sat between two skyscrapers, both casting the roof in an almost impenetrable shadow, one would really have to be looking to see them. The sound of traffic below was nothing more than white noise, a background soundtrack for their current encounter. Using her grip in his hair, Noire dragged him up from her jaw and crashed their lips together again. Her kittenish licks asked for entrance and he eagerly granted it, savouring the taste of her as she mapped out his mouth with her tongue.
He gripped her tighter, not wanting to let go, blind in the pleasure of her lips and tongue and teeth.
Teeth
Teeth
Teeth
Never, never, never ever let go
