In reasonable people units, conversion done with calculators and not yet checked so godspeed:
227 g unsalted butter, softened
1 egg 200 g sugar 250 g flour 1 tsp vanilla ½ tsp salt Turbinado/ Raw Sugar for dusting
Preheat the oven to 200°C. Chill a 23x33 cm baking pan in the freezer. Do not grease the pan.
Using a mixer, blend the butter, egg, sugar, and salt together until it is creamy. Add the flour and vanilla and mix using your hands until the mixture holds together in large clumps. If it seems overly soft, add a little extra flour.
Using your hands, press the dough out onto the chilled and ungreased baking sheet until it is even and a bit more than half a centimeter thick. Dust the top of the cookies evenly with raw sugar.
Bake at 200°C until the edges turn a golden brown, about 12-15 minutes. Remove from the oven. Let cool for about five minutes before cutting the cooked dough into squares. Remove the squares from the warm pan using a spatula.
#baking#food#metric units#metric baking#Seeing thousands upon thousands#Of US units baking recipes#including shit that no converter exists for#And having to convert them#and them not working well BECAUSE OF THE FUCKING ALTITUDE AND HOW FLOUR DOESN'T FUCKING TRANSLATE WELLL#AND IT JUST FUCKING DOES WHATEVER SO YOU MAY HAVE MORE OR LESS#IF YOU MEASURE IT WITHA FUCKING JUG#has made this one of my genuine pet peeves

Understanding Automotive Weight: Imperial and Metric Units Examined
The Prevalence of Metric Units
In the automotive industry, both imperial and metric units are used to measure car weight. In countries that primarily adhere to the imperial system, such as the United States, car weight is typically expressed in pounds. However, the growing global dominance of the metric system has led to a trend toward the use of kilograms as the standard unit of weight for cars.

United States Units for Measuring Volume
There are two confusingly-similar systems of measurement for measuring volume in the United States, both largely based on multiples/divisions of two.
The older and more familiar (to Americans) system is based on historical, customary measurements, and is what most home recipes use.
The newer system is based on the metric system, created by defining the metric teaspoon as 5 milliliters and keeping all other relationships the same, and is used for food/drink regulations and nutrition labels.
These charts use a logarithmic scale, with each horizontal line marking a multiple of 10^0.3 ≈ 1.995 and 1 mL used as the baseline from which all other measurements are positioned.

Could I request Medic having The Mom Grip on Scout’s shoulder after the speedy moron almost let a mercenary secret slip while they weee getting groceries?
Three Europeans and two Americans walk into a grocery store in New Mexico.
I hope this is the right meme.
More silliness below.
This comic is the antithesis of the "wtf is a kilometre" joke.
The faces they make when they can't quite identify the type of brown bread in the bread aisle.
You don't know how [insert nationality here] you are until you go overseas and things are different.
Spy obviously has no problems with pretending to know how much a gallon of milk is, he just peeks into his conversion chart notes, pretending it's his shopping list.
I want to think Heavy is completely fine with having to readjust to a new unit system, he just eyeballs most practical things anyways by holding them up and mumbling about how they approximately weigh like a chicken or his kettle bell etc. He's always been living in practical ignorant bliss.
Medic has a peer reviewed meltdown the first time he realises there's no uniformity in "a cup of ____" because every object has different densities. He's diligent about memorising the conversion rates for ounces, pounds, the most common things etc., and recovers ok. He goes through the same stages of grief rage when he finds out about distances and lengths.
Just remember four inches are 10.16 cm and pray no one asks you to specify anything bigger than inches.
Everyone does a mental victory lap when they manage to guess how much Celsius the weather is because they keep forgetting it's Celsius*5/9+32=Fahrenheit, Engineer reminds them patiently.
The true victories are the correct temperature guesses we've made along the way.
One time, a friend asked me if I actually knew how much a tablespoon of flour was in gramms to convince me that metric users also make use of volume based units without thinking about them. But little did she know a heaped spoonful of 405 flour is about 15g and a level tablespoon is 10g.
They claim Oolong just tastes better when it's boiled to 80°C exactly with a Bunsen burner.
You only asked for one scene but somehow I came up with a bunch of other things. This post was drawn across 2 months so the artstyle is all over the place. Thanks for your ask!
#team fortress 2#tf2#tf2 medic#tf2 scout#tf2 spy#tf2 heavy#tf2 soldier#Medic's reaction to a stick of butter is 100% based on my own reaction after reading an American recipe for the first time#Like I didn't know butter in America came in this normed stick-form I genuinely thought it was some arbitrary unit like ??? A Stick??#As in I didn't know if the recipe required the butter to be in this specific shape; like sometimes you have to add butter in shaves or molt#no biggie lemme whittle away at my butter block until it's shaped like a stick? And then I learnt it was the portions that butter comes in#Cut me some slack; I'm used to recipes using eggs as the scale-up ingredient; not butter#I also learnt that medical labels is where metric units are mostly encountered simply because medicine is international#But that is the main reason why I think Medic would not realise he'd have to deal with imperial units until he goes grocery shopping#The man's just been ignoring the “oz” information right below everything he's ever used; out of sight out of mind#I want to think Engi is the most normal person about the entire metric-imperial-units thing he just does some mental arithmetic and done#King just learned système international d'unités during one of his 11 phds; it's not unrealistic

Consider though that centi and milli prefixes indicate fractions, 1/100th and 1/1000th respectively. From this we can infer that other multilegged pedes would also follow this pattern, giving us theoretical specimens such as the ten legged decipede or a million legged micropede
We can further extrapolate that prefixes for units larger than the simple pede such as a decapede, kilopede, or yes even the gigapede, would imply multiple bodies per singular leg.
The words centipede and millipede imply the existence of the much larger gigapede. Perhaps even a terapede

Yeah About a Hug's Worth
Think about it: If a kid is trying to measure their mood or love with their arms, saying "I love you this much" or "more than this much" it's an actual unit of measurement! If someone says "my love for you is unfathomable" they're saying "my love for you is more than which an embrace can convey." Sailors literally talk by saying "yeah this square knot takes about six hugs of rope" The words "fathom" "unfathomable" "fathomless" all relate to hugs! We have been measuring length in hugs for 5 centuries! I think that's beautiful.

One of the most annoying things about being a European into feederism is the unit hell. Thanks to the dominance of Americans in the space pounds and inches have sort of become the main unit for gainers (in the english speaking parts of the scene). However, I literally only ever use pounds when it comes to the weight of a fat person. Literally that's it. I couldn't possibly tell you what a pound of flour looks like, they're just the magic hot lady unit XD
#I actually use kilos when referring to skinny people pounds is exclusively for when I'm talking about gainers XD#I'm british so we have our own domestic unit soup but the only imperial measurements I actually use much outside of kink are pints and mile#pints are just a really good size for a drink tbh#we have different pints to the US tho and ours are cooler because they're bigger >:3#and miles because our roads use them#I use metric for everything else ngl#Also fuck stone omg imagine being a worse and stupider version of pounds

me: possessiveness as a theme for the dark barons absolutely makes sense. in contrast to the hyperindividualism and isolation fostered in the un, the fold seems to be about how community itself can become strangling. the crowded street scenes, the busy webs of character connections. we have vesta and her sister smothered by family expectations, the mothers who are always around the corner and always ready to serve (even at the cost of their own life). kurushu on their tail, crisp and stifling. when everything is connected how much of a person can you be? dark sonia, a twisted mirror of the grandmother, preys on the grief and doubts of people who’ve lost family, who question their worth. dusty gives in to her to save the people he’s beholden to. baxford wanion’s first words on the stage are for the sake of his underling; because walden is his. even weepe-as-swinzey’s robber baron capitalism is possessive: what’s yours is mine, what’s mine is also mine. everything is about what you owe to each other, what they owe to you, a knotted network that culminates in paralyzing fear, because when you’re responsible for so many there’s so much more to lose.
also me: you sign one employment contract with dark sonia or baxford wanion and they’re out here saying the most alarming things. “i am what waits for you at the end and what knew you at the beginning” “never again will I lose what’s mine” this is seasonal work! where did you come from!
#moonward#midst spoilers#the United baronies were actually formed because SOME people couldn’t stop saying off putting things#At critical trade summits#and it was scaring the hoes (merchant group envoys)#kozma laszlo can excuse a lot of things but not whatever dark sonia is doing#saskia by this metric might have the potential to be the most terrifying dark baron of them all#she was working herself up to have a very expansive definition of her people!

I don't get why anyone finds US volume units confusing. Perfectly normal system. 61,440 drops to the gallon, as the creator intended.

In the continuing Americans Will Use Anything But The Metric System saga.... uhh, it's because of pirates from 230 years ago! No really!! :(
To be less flippant—I doubt anything would have changed, had that ship reached its intended destination. Embracing the metric system seems to have been a thing with Thomas "Invade Canada" Jefferson alone, without a broad base of support, and the USA is just Perfidious Albion 2.0. I mean, right after the French won our war of independence from Britain for us, we turned around and started the Quasi-War against France? I just don't see us loving the kilogram over more familiar (English) customary units.
#age of sail#pirates#literal pirates of the caribbean#metric system#us history#thomas jefferson#1790s#maritime history#piracy#fun fact: the us still uses 18th century english units!#the imperial system was revised in 1824 but not in the usa (hence our slightly different cups and pints etc)

it's so funny how the uk pretends to be fully metric and then whenever america's not looking we're like oh it's only a couple of miles away. can you pick me up a pint of milk and half a pound of bacon. i think he's six foot two? ugh i was so sick i'm pretty sure i lost like a whole stone. can't believe you need to drink like a whole gallon of water every day. how hot is it gonna be tomorrow? oh sorry can you tell me that in fahrenheit i don't know celsius
#fwiw i don't know fahrenheit#but most people over like 40 don't really know celsius#my mum's only just picked it up#i'm fascinated w how we use units btw. like how pint is p much only for beer and milk & we use ml for everything else?? that's so wild#i think i remember seeing a tiktok about it once#but anyway yeah every time i read a fic set in england where someone starts talking about how many kilometres per hour they're driving#i'm like [points] non brit#we use metric for running and imperial for driving and metric for running really far. what's not clicking

heres your random frustrating fact of the day
#explanation: metric usually uses powers of 10 but data is naturally binary. so theres disagreement over whether to measure data in powers of#1000 (like every other SI standardized unit) or 1024 (very close to 1000 for convenience; however naturally exactly accurate to data units)#usually powers of 1000 are measured with SI prefixes like kilobyte (kB) megabyte (MB) etc#while powers of 1024 are measured in kibibytes (kiB) mebibytes (MiB) etc#apple and some distros of linux like ubuntu choose to standardize on the si style. most other unixlike standardizes on binary style#as this excerpt says WINDOWS SPECIFICALLY AND EXCLUSIVELY chooses to standardize on binary style but displays in si units... which is why#disks that are exactly 1 terabyte will display as mysteriously missing a lot of storage space. because theyre literally using it wrong#(not exactly exclusively because RAM is also counted in binary units but referred to in decade units)#(matters less though because the differential is literally exponentially less)

shaking my head so that the audience understands that its wrong that im giving a gacha game props for its gacha system but also holy shit do I wish other gachas had the wishlist system of alchemy stars
#units in this game are divided into 4 elements to be#and for some new unit drop banners you can add a wishlist to basically select any 4 units (one from each element) that you DONT already hav#and it auto guarantees that any 6* you pull that isnt the focus unit is one of those four units#AND. ITS REPEATABLE#SO IF YOU PULL LIKE. A NEW FIRE UNIT. YOU CAN LITERALLY SWAP TO A DIFFERENT FIRE UNIT AND KEEP GOING#this game also has a very easy way to raise your summon rate from banners (you can realistically hit a 100% pity like every other banner)#so this game is eizen metric approved
