You can't just tell us there is a book about loving someone after you've transitioned away from being someone who can legally love their partner & not tell us the title of it. Historical queer media is too important to let die, please share the title of it
Oh sorry, I was going to make a comic on that, but considering how much I have to do IRL it's not going to happen any time soon, so I might as well tell everyone I know here.
It's "Der Fundvogel - Die Geschichte einer Wandlung" by Hanns Heinz Ewers, written in 1927 (not to be confused with Fundevogel 1812 by the Grimm brothers)
I saw the book exists in German and Russian, but I haven't seen English translations of it so I can't give you an English link, but there may be one out there. There is this (English) paper that analyses the main theme of the book and the problematic aspects of it, rooted in national socialism, so you can read this for the synopsis and the analysis on how (male) queerness justified its existence (to the detriment of female queerness) in Weimar Germany amidst the rise of national socialism: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1023/A:1012273310289
Some spoiler rambles in the tags.
#60 seconds till mission begins rambles#maybe I should also tell you that the legal love interest post transition is tragic but#the original love relation ship which at the end becomes a gay relationship is vaguely possible because of a love triangle which#is presented as OK because a woman is involved because its no homo if a woman is there ig#uhhh what else. this book predates actual sex correction surgery so its a bit hocus pocus winging the science#also while the yuri in this is doomed its not the case at all that this book is blatantly misogynist#it does its best to point out that being a Strong Woman is a common thing in nature too (read: biologically backed)#however it still goes down the road of “ehhhhh but heres a better idea: men”#i hope this Springer article suddenly gets traffic after 20 years of being published that would be so funny

the infuriating thing is that there is genuinely so much good queer literature out there, contemporary and not, but there is also a sizeable chunk of readers who think that a book only "counts" as good queer literature if it's a) unproblematic, b) contains romance as its central focus, and c) has the characters state their orientation and/or gender identity directly to the audience using socially acceptable 21st-century terms (as opposed to resorting to cowardly tactics such as Subtext and Themes)
#me having to preface “so this book was written i ww2 and the author is known to be queer but ALSO he submitted to fascism and that#shows during some moments in the book“#before I can tell them the book is about how its ok to be gay especially if you are trans and medically transitioned already#because the logic in this book is you fell in love while being a woman#still didnt stop the government from banning that book alas

After your 30th participant or so, you start developing a kind of calculated impatience where you know exactly what to tell people not to do in order to be as fast as possible during experiments, works of fiction didnt lie when they characterise experimenters to be kind of greedy for your data
#60 seconds till mission begins rambles#its ok because I give my participants snacks and I ask them about their day so they become my friends#only for me to use them for my evil snowball recruitment technique

I don't think we are tapping into Medic calling men on the other team "Fräuleins" enough. I want him to ask for everyone's attention with "Meine Damen?", and going between fighting team mates with "Mädels😤", and when anyone asks him to correct it, he goes ahhh oopsie and lies about gendered nouns in German.
#60 seconds till mission begins rambles#i dont want to go too much on a tangent here but i've once witnessed an old man addressing a bunch of fighting boys with “girls”#and the way they immediately stopped because it hurt their ego#powerful#type of person who sees girls fighting and goes “gentlemen can we stop”

You'll be at peace.
Archimedes is watching these two pop off and clean the capture point.
And here is the second panel without text.
The text is based on a Moravian (geographically that's in the Czech Republic now) Christmas song that was adapted into German in 1973. It has a very lovely tune.
The translation is based on the German lyrics because they are more vague than the original Moravian lyrics and therefore more fit as narration text. I made them singable in English, you are welcome.
Happy holidays.
#sobbing and crying at how beautiful these colours are everyone look#the colouring is soooooo pretty i could never do this#really cool to see my own drawings getting coloured like this
