Legitimacy of MetaZ Domains: A Gateway to the Future
In the ever-evolving digital landscape, skepticism often accompanies novel concepts, and MetaZ domains are no exception. Are MetaZ domains a legitimate opportunity, or are they veiled in the shadows of potential scams?
Let's dissect the confusion to unveil the legitimacy of MetaZ domains, establishing them as not just a passing trend but the future of the internet.
Transparent Foundation of MetaZ Domains
MetaZ domains operate on a transparent foundation, underpinned by a well-defined structure governed by the MetaZ organization.
Unlike scams that thrive on ambiguity, MetaZ domains adhere to a clear framework designed to shape the future of digital interactions.
Proper Industry Recognition
Legitimate entities within the digital landscape recognize and acknowledge the potential of MetaZ domains. The emergence of MetaZ-accredited domain registrars and the backing of tech companies further attest to its credibility and recognition within the industry.
Purpose Beyond Profit
While scams often revolve around quick profits and lack a genuine purpose, MetaZ domains are a testament to a broader vision. Their primary purpose extends beyond financial gain, aiming to establish a new domain naming system for the future internet, the Metaverse.
Integration with Technological Advancements
Scams typically avoid association with cutting-edge technologies, fearing exposure. In contrast, MetaZ domains proudly align themselves with innovative technologies like AR, VR, AI, and spatial computing.
This integration underscores a genuine commitment to shaping the future of the internet.
Industry Experts' Involvement
The involvement of industry experts and early adopters lends credibility to the MetaZ domain ecosystem. Professionals and enthusiasts, recognizing the transformative potential, actively engage in discussions and investments, establishing MetaZ domains as a legitimate and forward-thinking venture.
That is clearly different compared to artificially generated marketing hype such as some crypto and NFT-related investments.
Evolutionary Vision of the MetaZ Concept
Scams lack a long-term vision, aiming for quick gains before fading away. MetaZ domains, however, are part of an evolutionary vision, the transition from the 2D internet to the immersive 3D Metaverse.
This forward-looking perspective positions MetaZ domains as a pivotal player in the internet's future.
Regulatory Compliance
Legitimate ventures adhere to regulatory frameworks, ensuring compliance with legal standards. MetaZ domains, being part of a structured and regulated system, operate within established norms, offering users a sense of security and trust.
In conclusion, MetaZ domains transcend the characteristics of scams. They are not fleeting trends driven by profit motives but represent a foundational shift in the digital landscape.
The convergence of transparency, purpose, technological integration, and industry acknowledgment solidifies MetaZ domains as a legitimate and groundbreaking force, poised to shape the future of the internet within the vast realms of the Metaverse.

Because of what's happening on Twitter...
I've made a little diagram to demonstrate why billionaires and the ultra-wealthy are bad for society.
(Text in Image)
"If we view society as a body, every sector is like a different organ within the body that serves a function and works in harmony with other organs to maintain balance. Every part of the body is important for the whole thing to function."
"The ultra-wealthy want you to believe they are the beating heart and thinking mind of the society – they are the innovators who create our jobs and their brilliance drives society forward. They deserve to be at the top of society because they have earned that. Without them, the body won’t function because they are the most important part."
"In reality, they are more like a malignant tumour, sucking all of the blood (resources) away from everything else (people and the planet) to fuel its own infinite growth, depriving the rest of the body and slowly killing it. Workers create all of the innovation and keep things running, the ultra-wealthy take all the credit."
------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a public domain image so feel free to pinch it for whatever.
Elon Musk has put the careers of thousands of small business owners who depend on Twitter (myself included) in jeopardy by completely running it into the ground. Before this, Mark Zuckerberg had already been doing the same when he started pursuing Metaverse, making Instagram and Facebook much more unusable for artists. Do I really need to go into other examples of CEOs and very normalised practise of wage theft?
Meanwhile, the UK currently has the richest Prime Minister in its history. What is this man doing with this wealth? Continuing the Tory legacy of austerity in order to line his pockets and the pockets of his crony friends. This has resulted in a devastating cost of living crisis that continues to ravage the country as people's energy bills skyrocket out of control.
My diagram is pretty basic and lacks nuance, there's definitely more I could elaborate on with this comparison but I really don't have time. I just want people to get the basic point of how billionaires view themselves vs what function they actually serve. I'm also not here to debate whether some organs are more important than others since I'm not a doctor, that's not really the point here. And no, I don't care if people think I'm being harsh by comparing billionaires to a tumour. If they don't want to be compared to one they should stop acting like one. Jeff Bezos could end world hunger right now and chooses not to.
Also, I know a lot of people are going to come at me with the argument that billionaires give away massive amounts of money. First off, people like Jeff Bezos only give large sums of money to charity a.) for the sake of improving their public image and b.) because giving to charity allows them to write it off in their taxes. Also, charities in of themselves have a lot of problems, but that's a blog post for another day. Mutual Aid is a better way to help people directly. Really, the ultra wealthy need to be taxed, of course they do everything within their power to avoid taxes.
Also:
"Earning a lot of money" and "holding onto a lot of money" are two different things. You cannot be a multi-millionaire unless you hold onto that money. If you give away massive chunks of it to enrich society, you cease to be a billionaire.
Oh and this is worth a watch, too.
Furthermore:
Also before the inevitable great man comments:
Being a billionaire is a moral failing. Nobody needs that much money.
[Slight edit here - I made the assertion that a billionaire could not spend all of their money in their lifetime, but as someone in the comments pointed out it's very easy for them to completely waste billions in no time. Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg have shown that].
Anyway, if you would like to see more anti-Capitalist art from me, I am currently working on a webcomic called "Flowerpunk" - a story about a group of anarchists who are trying to save the city of Wyrdon from a supernatural plague known as "the rot." The comic heavily discusses disaster Capitalism and how the rich will use mass death and destruction as an opportunity to further line their pockets.
I also like to do little anti-Capitalist doodles relating to this project, which I plan to make into posters at some point.
Please consider donating a Ko-Fi also if you would like to help support this project. I am really struggling at the moment because I've basically lost a massive chunk of my client base due to this Twitter implosion and also because of the AI BS that has made it impossible for me to get any reach nowadays. The last year or so has been an absolute nightmare for my career because of all of this.
Thank you all for your continued support! Hopefully I can re-establish my audience here on Tumblr and wherever else I decide to go.
#Twitter#twitpocalypse#elongated muskrat#eat the rich#eat the fucking rich#tax the rich#tax the 1%#tax the billionaires#anti capitalism#workers of the world unite#working class solidarity#Can you tell that I am absolutely fucking done with this BS?

btw now that i can get to it (was busy and had someone over) i can babble a little abt zzz and give my thoughts so far on it if anyone is still wondering whether they should try it or not
first thing i have to say is, to me it feels like a cozy casual kinda game. and i love it. i think thats the part i saw some ppl complain abt
it reminds me a lot of P5 w the overall vibes etc (i played on first release years ago but not the additional stuff afterwards so idk if there were changes to the plot or anything with whatever royal is about) and it was a comfort game for me back then so yea. this might add a lot to why zzz feels like such a comfort game to me
the siblings are not active, playable characters in combat since theyre the proxy guiding and supporting the playable characters (agents) in the hollows (compare it to domains). outside of the hollows you run around with ur chosen sibling and whoever you picked, the other doesnt disappear or becomes irrelevant. they are a unit, run their video store together, theyre one proxy, supporting each other. i already love how trailblazer is more vocal than traveler but the siblings are active, talking parts in cutscenes and whenever theres dialogue choices, your chosen sibling ACTUALLY SAYS IT. this is smth i wished for a while in gnshn so seeing it in zzz made me super happy. it gives them sm life and gets me into it idk how to say it
(this is them btw. pretty mfs)
anw its not overwhelming like gnshn feels to me. gnshn has sm to explore and sm story and its smth i both enjoy and feel exhausted by. now, if you played persona or are familiar, its easier for me to use for comparison. you get to run around as the chosen sibling in the city but the fighting (w the agents you pull from the gacha) all happens in the hollows (similar to when you enter the metaverse). it runs with a day-night cycle and depending on the time, npcs and quests pop up. you can pass the time if you need a specific time of day for an objective, by doing hollow exploration or simply resting in ur room. theres side stuff you do, like running your store and visiting the arcade and play snake akjscbk
the combat itself reminds me of HI3 and wuwa and feels super smooth and fun to me
it has cutscenes etc but the story parts in between are illustrated and presented in a comic/storyboard kinda way? which fits the whole video/movie aesthetics well. its pretty cool
overall, if you didnt try it out yet bc you think it requires lots of energy and time like gnshn, its nothing like that at all. ofc im not through with everything but so far it feels like a very nice game to play casually, w a big cozy bonus when youre spending the day freely in game. i play only on pc or on console when i wanna lay down but this game even i would play on phone or ipad to chill akjscbk
the characters are also pretty fun and cool looking! like, look at them, so far we got
the most chaotic ragtag group in all of new eridu (they share one braincell and its anby who is in charge of it)
fresh looking heavy industry workers (they have a bear)
classic horror housekeeping service who will poison ur tea ig
motorcycle gang (oggling the glasses guy and boss lady super hard, they will be mine when playable-)
public security (they have an actual catboy in case weve got catboy enjoyers here)
special hollow operation elite squad aka the coolest strongest mfs out there taking care of hollow disasters
ALSO THE NPCS!!! LIKE!!! look at the cook!!! tinmaster running the coffee shop!!! the girl selling gadgets or the bunny person running the arcade!!!
even the regular npcs just roaming the streets. theres lots of cool details and life in every bit, its really cool
anw!! idk if this helped or made sense, this is also just my own impressions and feelings so far so yeee. if someone decides to play, i hope you will have fun and get whoever you really really want!!

If Akechi's story were to continue, how would you want it to go ideally?
Ohh, anon, where to start.
First off, I want to know what's happening in the true ending. Why is he with that team at the station? Because there are two almost-identical groups there—one is in the car chasing down the Phantom Thieves and Joker, but one is walking past at the station with Akechi. And he doesn't look like he's there voluntarily. So is he working with them against his will? Have they captured him? Is he pretending to cooperate and playing traitor again? Is he actually cooperating? Is he the guy the car suits are talking to on the mic? Is he looking down like that because he knows Joker's on the train and doesn't want to see him? Does Joker know he's alive, are they in contact or even conspiring? I WANT TO KNOW GODDAMMIT TELL ME
Some people say the guys in the suits are part of the continuity conspiracy (which will pop up later in Strikers). I like the idea that they're some faction or other of the Kirijo Group. One thing's for sure, though: they aren't the police.
Once we get that plot out of the way—assuming Akechi survives it, because he's a good candidate for an actual onscreen death—we really get into fanfic territory, shit that doesn't make good video games. How does he develop, given who he's been and what he's done? How does he live with that as he grows and changes? What happens as he slowly connects to others, as he forms confidants of his own? How does he do better? How does he make amends—does he make amends? He wants to leave it in the past and live in the present, but life's not like that; he's not like that. Akechi is his past. His whole life he's been fixated on his past, on the wrongs done to him, on the revenge he wanted. And we're meant to believe that in the third semester, when he's got absolutely nothing left, he just goes yep, not thinking about the past any more? Of course he thinks about it all the damn time. He's going to obsess about it despite himself.
What about the police? What about Sae? If he's going to have a story, he can't just turn himself in—but does he try? Does he believe it's the end of his path? Why isn't he executed? Why isn't he in jail? What about justice for his victims? How culpable is he, overall? He believes he's entirely culpable, that he chose his path all along. But did he?
What about the Metaverse being gone? How does he feel about it, deep down? For years it's a place only he can go. It's his place. Does he think of it as his only real home? As his domain, his place of power? The one place he's truly safe, even as shit attacks him from all sides? Like, never mind that it's obviously the place he goes to be himself as best he can, to vent all the shit that builds up in his day-to-day life. What does it do to him, not having that outlet? Is he homesick for it? Does he crack?—I'd be amazed if he didn't. So what does that look like?
And what does he do? Don't forget, Akechi is a murderer. That's his preferred skillset; that's what he wants to do, what he enjoys doing. What he really brings to the team in the third semester appears to be pure ruthlessness and a will to be the one who kills when it's necessary. So if he somehow gets to have a life, how does he avoid living with anticlimax for the rest of his days? What does he even offer the world?—or a society in which people like him can have no place?
He's done everything interesting he will ever do. He's been as interesting as he'll ever be. Does he miss what he was? Does he miss what he did? Does he miss Shido, even, who was his only family, who praised him and needed him so completely? Does he get mixed up with Mitsuru somehow, just to keep him out of jail, to give him some kind of place and purpose? How would he view that? Another rich, powerful asshole trying to control him?—very much nty, he'll rot in jail first.
And what about Joker? What about the Phantom Thieves? Does he have a place with them? Or will he always be an outcast, tolerated at best, unable to connect? How do those relationships play out over years, over a lifetime?
Akechi has made a lot of mistakes and a lot of bad choices. In the third semester he's pretty much broken as a person, after what seems to have close to a change of heart. I'd really like to see him slowly develop and learn and change. I'd like to see him find something to live for besides killing. So to really answer your original question—I want him to live. I want him to slowly learn that there can be things in the world for him, and people who want him for himself. I want him to come to a place where he can start to do better because he's chosen to—likely still in a ruthless and mercenary way, that's just who he'll always be, but still doing better. Because punitive justice doesn't put anything right, not really. And it makes for boring fanfic, too.
tl;dr: Atlus, return my child.

Shades
The first Persona game I've experienced is funnily enough not Persona 5. My true start in a sense had been the quieter and homey air of Persona 4 Golden. Despite not being able to play it back then, the game left enough impression to get me invested in the series.
There is one particular part that stuck with me though. It was the idea of someone's Shadow becoming a Persona through acceptance. A very common occurrence as everyone in the game except for the Protagonist gone through this.
Most of the bosses in 4 is someone's Shadow who went berserk if their other half rejects them. Why you may ask? Because these are the manifestations of our inner darkness, a Doppelganger. Doppelgangers can be considered an already volatile powder keg to put it simply.
Personas are the opposite side of this very coin. An incredible power that can only be wielded when someone accepts their shadow half and can take many forms depending on the person. Or you might view it as a conduit for a summon if going for the demons route like in Shin Megami Tensei.
Shadows can become Personas and vice versa. Yet, what if there's a halfway point? Neither a Shadow or Persona but have the potential to become either depending on their choices.
An entity I will call a Shade. Beings stuck in the threshold between both paths and whose actions can determine what they become. Shades work on completely different rules though.
The creation process being the biggest difference as they don't originate from any variation of the Metaverse. Every Shade was once a human or non-cognitive being. From an entire person to even a body less soul.
All Shades are someone whose life or potential were completely shattered. Those that wish to move forward but can't without assistance. Shades can be created in two different ways.
First is Patronage where a Persona or Shadow offers to grant them this wish. The Shade born from such a process always takes after their 'Patron' in form and have similar abilities. EX: Shades whose Patron is Arséne often tend to share the Curse attribute alongside physical traits to him like horns, wings, or similar attire.
The second is Cognition Metamorphosis. A peculiar process where the potential Shade manifests their own form without a patronage. Their visage and abilities are based on the individual's inactive Shadow/Persona. Cognition Metamorphosis can only occur if the potential Shade has a strong spirit or in an area heavily linked to the Metaverse called a Transcendent Point.
The state of the person's body upon either transition is an important factor. Should a potential Shade not have one or it is too damaged then it'll take time to fully develop. Kinda like tadpole into frog.
An accurate comparison unlike those who do have an intact body. They fully emerge from it as a complete Shade. A process made easier and faster with their old body acting like a conduit or a chrysalis to be more accurate.
Now I can really delve into differences that Shades have when it compared to Persona and Shadows. These entities can be fully interacted by everyone outside of the Metaverse. Normal living beings are able to see, hear and even touch Shades without any issue.
This is because they aren't fully separated from the human realm until becoming either a Persona or Shadow. Although there will be complications though. Every Shade has a negative effect on a person's perception of them.
These tend to range from unable to say certain words, inability to hear their voice, or an unnatural villainization. A sometimes very volatile twist in perception as some individuals become unreasonably hostile to Shades that can affect them. Not everyone is susceptible to this negative shift though.
Shades are born with the ability to create Domains. Personal dens and places of safety that can be created by melding their power into an area. A pseudo Safe Room to put it simply. Domains can be adjusted by their respective Shade whether on purpose or personal growth towards their Persona/Shadow evolution.
If a Shade die, then their body and anything crafted by their powers disintegrate as erased from existence. How they become a Persona or Shadow also varies. The latter being more easier to achieve if a Shade looses themselves to inner darkness from sorrow to sheer malevolence.
In order to become a Persona, they have to find their goal. Whether it be a purpose, truth, or even a resolve. A Shade who manages to reach this particular goal then they become a Persona and can leave the mortal realm for the Sea of Souls. These two respective processes are called Ascension/Descension.
Persona born from Shades can remember their past lives with full detail and are able to return to the mortal realm if they formed a strong enough bond with an individual(s). Those that become Shadows hold no memories nor emotions other than the one which created them. It is highly advised to be ready for a vicious fight if encountered.
Shades have the ability to grant boons to non Persona users which can evolve over time, Crowning being the term. Animal like receivers become Familiars who could potentially transform into powerful Beasts called Dusks. People are blessed with powerful weapons, armor and even magic.
If the crowning Shade becomes a Persona then their familiars transition into Shades while Dusks become Persona. Items or magic transcend into much more powerful variations. Not the same can be said for the opposite.
If this Shade becomes a Shadow, then their familiars transition into unstable Shades and Dusks to volatile Shadows. Given items or magic become cursed making them very hazardous to the wielder. Even those around the gifted can be in danger if too close.
This is probably one of the few ideas that I already wrote for but never flesh out. For those wondering, it is a MHA/Persona fanfic on Ao3 called Incarnation. (One that needs to be updated as it's stuck in hiatus.)
If you guys want to try out this idea then go ahead. Make sure to link the page so any confusion can be confused and others could give a try. I'm always curious on what people can come up with!

Mementos and Palaces in P5X
(last updated 9/11/24!)
Unlike P5, in P5X Palaces are located within Mementos; Mementos essentially functions as a hub for all Metaverse activity, and has a set layout on each of its floors. This post is a quick runthrough of the places connected to Mementos, and the general differences from P5 present in P5X's Mementos and Palaces.
As usual, under a cut for post length.
Upon entering Mementos, the player is presented with this navigation menu:
The large grey ????? box is where the current Palace is listed, and serves as a shortcut to save the player from having to drive through Mementos to the Palace every time. When there is currently no Palace in progress in the story, it instead displays this grey box.
Other than being located within Mementos, Palaces function very similarly to P5, though they seem to also be related to the Palace ruler's ability to "steal desires", which, while not depicted visually like it is in P5S, sounds otherwise similar. Palaces here also have optional minibosses located throughout, and a tool can be crafted to detect missed stealable items.
While the exact layouts and puzzles differ from the ones seen in P5, they otherwise feel very similar to play through. Notably, if the player gets a game over, they're automatically transported to the nearest safe room, rather than being given the option to start the battle over. In addition to chests, Palaces also have engraved stones that can be collected, which then allow the player to unlock and watch pieces of P5: The Animation episodes for rewards.
Directly related to Palaces and the added content for players to complete within one, the red circle (in the corner of the grey Palace box on the list) is a shortcut to the mysterious "place between cognitions":
This location allows players to return to previous Palaces, though it's explained as being only a cognitive imprint of the Palace, not the original thing. Players may want to do this to reach 100% completion of the Palace, which includes collecting all treasure, and fighting every optional miniboss. Various percentage levels of completion also unlock additional rewards.
The next option on the list, the red box, leads to the "Realm of Despair", which has been referred to as similar to "domains" in Genshin Impact. In it, players can re-fight Shadow Kiuchi and Miyazawa at higher difficulties for rewards, as well as undertake various other fights with average shadows to gain items to strengthen teammates, Personas for Wonder, or Revelation Cards.
These fights all cost a form of energy which refills gradually over time; the player's maximum amount of this energy that can be held at once seems to increase at certain player levels. Specific items can also refill this manually, but they tend to be special rewards or cost actual money. (You can see in the top right corner I had 20/240 of this energy while taking these screenshots!)
Most of these fights are set in areas similar to Kamoshida, Madarame, Kaneshiro, and Okumura's Palaces, but some instead are set in an unfamiliar, almost churchlike area instead:
The meaning/origin of this extra area is currently unknown.
The teal box, with the Cattle car, allows the player to enter Mementos itself to drive around. Other than having set layouts to its floors, Mementos looks much like it did in P5, with a few new aspects:
Sometimes players will find barrels that can be broken for rewards
Gusts of wind that give the Cattle car a speed boost are scattered around
Some chests require a nearby enemy to be defeated before they can be opened
Optional minibosses can be found at dead ends; the escalator downward is always guarded by a miniboss as well, as is the door at the end of that Path of Mementos
Safe rooms are integrated into the floor layout, rather than periodically being found in between normal floors
The ride ticket system
Ride tickets look like this:
Ride tickets can be found scattered around Mementos, and are also typically dropped by Mementos minibosses. As Marthym explains, ride tickets can be exchanged at the machines (always located across from safe rooms in Mementos) to open up new areas.
The deep blue box on the list leads to the Velvet Room challenges currently available. There are always two: the main ones, and a time-limited one.
The main ones includes five categories of fights of increasing difficulty that the player can take on at will, earning up to three stars per fight, and rewards based on their total stars within each category. Stars are based on score earned during the fight, with special criteria that grant more points when met (such as no teammates dying, and finishing within a certain number of rounds). Once you beat one fight in a category (regardless of stars earned), you unlock the next one.
The time-limited challenge (pictured above) is always made up of four sub-challenges. In the first three of these, the player participates in three fights in a row, with no ability to heal or use items between those fights. Each of the three fights gives stars separately, for a total of nine per sub-challenge. Stars are based on meeting certain criteria (typically, finishing within a certain number of rounds). The fourth sub-challenge is only two fights, but it's essentially two boss fights in a row, with the player using a different team for each; the bosses get a limited number of turns, and then the player's score is based on how much damage they were able to deal by the end of the boss' last turn.
Once the timeframe that this challenge is available for runs out, players receive extra rewards based on the overall number of stars + score they earned.
The sky blue box on the list leads to Paradise. "Paradise" is a Metaverse location in P5X that primarily serves as a hub for "Unions", which are groups of players similar to guilds in other games. Unions have a name, a description, and an icon, and any player can pay a bit of in-game currency to open one.
Marthym is the one to first introduce Wonder, Cattle, and Closer to this area, and it seems to be part of her "business", though as usual, she doesn't particularly clarify how. It's described as a safe location to relax.
Paradise itself takes the form of a large, slightly bizarre playground. The player is not limited to running around as Wonder here- a "transformation" machine allows them to take the forms of other teammates that they've unlocked (Metaverse and real-world appearances seem to unlock separately). A few other players from your Union will be visible standing around one of the tables, taking the form of whatever character they've transformed into most recently.
The final image above shows the "Door to Ominous Dreams", a special location (unlocked at level 40) that seems to contradict the otherwise peaceful Paradise. Through the door, the player can undertake special boss fights that rotate (and reset scores) every week.
Originally only two fights were available at a time, but Version 1.3.2 added a third fight, and player score is now determined by the highest two scores they've earned across these fights. Score within a fight is determined by the amount of damage dealt by the team during the boss fight, with a multiplier based on difficulty level.
As of Version 2.1.3, there are two different kinds of fights: one provides two bonus rounds at the end of the fight (after the boss has reached zero health) where weakness damage is multiplied, and the boss will no longer fight back; the other raises the point multiplier for damage dealt with each round that the team survives (while the boss gets stronger each round), and ends automatically after a certain number of rounds.
Notably, teammates are "locked in" to a fight once selected for it, and then cannot be used in the other fights available. The player can reset their progress to unlock the characters again, but this also wipes their current high score for that fight.
Known fights include: Dominion (and Archangel, Principality, and Power), Surt (and two Baphomets), Atavaka, Kohryu, Vishnu, Yatsufusa, Mara, Nidhoggr, and Baal. These bosses usually have additional special conditions to make the fight more difficult, but also present the opportunity for more points; for instance, Vishnu creates copies of himself once he's knocked down to certain health percentages, which then share his health bar, while Kohryu summons shadows to help him, including Seiryu, Byakko, Suzaku, and Genbu, in pairs during the fight.
The player's high scores are cumulated into a single player score that determines the reward tiers unlocked so far; in the above image, my own current cumulative score was 1,989,802, with the next reward tier at 2,250,000. Players also receive small bonus rewards when other members of their Union that attempts these fights.
The golden box leads to the Control Center game mode, which is explained in its own post here.

Meet Modern Shaman Sabrina Villard
As a tot, Sabrina Villard took her first steps in the Sahara desert, just south of Algeria. She did so while holding the hand of her great-grandmother, a Bedouin shaman--who are known in the region as Fugara--who she says lived to be 123 years old.
"She is still with me every day, guiding me," says Villard, who inherited and honed her skills as a shaman from her late great-grandmother. She keeps a photo of her on an altar surrounded by candles and flowers in the corner of her ceremony room, which occupies the second bedroom of her apartment on Robinson Road in Hong Kong's Mid-Levels district.
To this day, when faced with adversity or difficult decisions, a distinct tingle on her arm is a reassuring sign that her great-grandmother is watching over her. And one year ago, feeling she had that support, Villard made one of the biggest decisions of her life so far.
At the time, she was the Apac project manager for one of the world's most revered luxury fashion houses by day, and by night, she would guide clients on shamanic journeys, straddling the living and spiritual realms to assist in a variety of areas: from healing traumas to removing subconscious patterns that block people from reaching their full potential.
"The traditional definition of a shaman is a seer in the dark," says Villard. "I don't know about anyone's life when they come to me. I am shown what you are ready to see by your spirit guides, ancestors and your own memories. I have a conversation with your soul."
Last September, on her birthday, she quit her high-flying fashion job to pursue her role as a shaman full-time. "I resigned on my birthday," says the self-proclaimed witch. "Rebirth day!"
Since then, she has made it her mission to spread the ancient healing art of shamanism throughout the modern world. Without compromising its sanctity, she has found ways to make it approachable and applicable to even those who might be put off by the "woo-woo" perception of it.
"Some people like the theatrics of it: the crystals, the potions or dressing a certain way ... but it's not for me," says Villard, who prefers not to use any tools in her shamanic practice, and whose style is more wicked than witch. "For me, the modern witch is sure of herself and her intuition."
In fact, Villard recently became the first shaman to enter the metaverse, spending the last few months building a world on online virtual community platform VRChat under her moniker, V-Healing. The dreamy domain is a futuristic, space station-esque oasis that looks out to a desert landscape--a nod to her Bedouin roots.
Villard may be the first, but she hopes she isn't the last, and that over time, spirituality and alternative forms of healing will find their place in virtual reality.
"I know a lot of people will go against [this idea], but this is what I like; this is what's necessary," she says. "I like to go against the current, to bring spirituality into our modern world. We need to adapt and bring ancient knowledge and wisdom to the platforms that people are using now."

SESSION 1. INTRODUCTION TO INFOCOMM TECH LAW IN SINGAPORE
OPTIONAL READING: ICT LAW IN SINGAPORE CHAPTER 1
OPTIONAL REFERENCES: LAW AND TECH IN SINGAPORE CHAPTERS 1-3
A. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVE
New economies have emerged within the last two decades including digital models of transaction and disruptive innovation. Internet intermediaries generally are taking on a major role as facilitators of commercial and non-commercial transactions online. These include social networking platforms (e.g. Facebook, IG and Twitter), multimedia sharing platforms (e.g. YouTube, Apple Music and Spotify), search engines and news aggregators (e.g. Yahoo, Google), content hosts and storage facilities (e.g. Dropbox) and many others. Content generating platforms such as TikTok have also become popular even as cybersecurity concerns and other misgivings have emerged at the governmental level in some jurisdictions.
In the last few years, the use of Internet of Things (IoT) have become quite common in advanced economies, the latest being wearable devices for the 'Metaverse' and an even more immersive experience in the digital realm. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is also becoming more visible at the workplace and at home, leading to ethical concerns and a slate of guidelines globally to 'govern' its development and deployment. Most recently, interest in generative AI (GAI) emerged from the successful launch of chatGPT and other similar services.
Policies and laws have been adapted to deal with the roles and functions of Internet intermediaries, IoT and AI devices and services, and their potential effects and impact on society. Regulators in every jurisdiction are faced with the challenge to manage the new economy and players, and to balance the interest of multiple parties, in the context of areas of law including intellectual property, data protection, privacy, cloud technology and cyber-security. Different types of safe harbour laws and exceptions have emerged to protect these intermediaries and putting in place special obligations; while some forms of protections have been augmented to protect the interests of other parties including content providers and creators as well as society at large. Students taking this course will examine the legal issues and solutions arising from transactions through the creation and use of digital information, goods and services ('info') as well as the use of non-physical channels of communication and delivery ('comm').
The technological developments from Web 1.0 to 2.0 and the future of Web 3.0 with its impact on human interaction and B2B/B2C commerce as well as e-governance will be examined in the context of civil and criminal law, both in relation to the relevance of old laws and the enactment of new ones. In particular, this course examines the laws specifically arising from and relating to electronic transactions and interaction and their objectives and impact on the individual vis-à-vis other parties. Students will be taken through the policy considerations and general Singapore legislations and judicial decisions on the subject with comparisons and reference to foreign legislation where relevant.
In particular, electronic commerce and other forms of transactions will be studied with reference to the Electronic Transactions Act (2010) and the Singapore domain name framework supporting access to websites; personal data privacy and protection will be studied with reference to the Personal Data Protection Act of 2012 and the Spam Control Act; the challenges and changes to tort law to deal with online tortious conduct will be analysed (e.g. cyber-harassment under the Protection from Harassment Act (2014) and online defamation in the context of online communication); the rights and liabilities relating to personal uses of Internet content and user-generated content will be considered with reference to the Copyright Act (2021); computer security and crimes will be studied with reference to the Computer Misuse Act (2017) and the Cybersecurity Act (2018); and last, but not least, Internet regulation under the Broadcasting Act and its regulations as well as the Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act (2019), the Foreign Interference (Countermeasures) Act (2021) and the Online Criminal Harms Bill (2021) will be critically evaluated.
You will note from the above paragraph that there have been an acceleration in the enactment of ICT laws and amendments in recent years, which shows the renewed focus of the government and policy-makers when it comes to the digital economy and society (as we move towards a SMART Nation). This is happening not online in Singapore, but abroad as well. In such an inter-connected work with porous jurisdiction when it comes to human interaction and commercial transactions, we have to be aware of global trends and, in some cases, the laws of other jurisdictions as well. When it is relevant, foreign laws will also be canvassed as a comparison or to contrast the approach to a specific problem. Projects are a good way to approach in greater depth.
B. CLASS PREPARATION FOR SESSION 1
In preparation for this session, use the online and library resources that you are familiar with to answer the following questions in the Singapore context (and for foreign/exchange students, in the context of your respective countries):
What are the relevant agencies and their policies on ICT?
What are the areas of law that are most impacted by ICT?
What is the government's position on Artificial Intelligence?
What are the latest legal developments on this field?
Also, critically consider the analysis and recommendations made in the report on Applying Ethical Principles for Artificial Intelligence in Regulatory Reform, SAL Law Reform Committee, July 2020. Evaluate it against the second version of the Model AI Governance Framework from the IMDA. Also, look at the Discussion Paper on GAI released on 6 June 2023. Take note of this even as we embark on the ‘tour’ of disparate ICT topics from Session 2 onwards, and the implications for each of those areas of law that will be covered in class.
C. ASSESSMENT METHOD AND GRADING DISTRIBUTION
Class Participation 10% (individually assessed)
Group Project 30% (group assessed)
Written Exam 60% (2 hour open book examination)
This course will be fully conducted in the classroom setting. Project groups will be formed by week 2, projects will be assigned from week 3, and presentations will begin from week 4 with written assignments to be due for submission a weeks after presentation. Further details and instructions will be given after the groups are formed, but before the first project assignment.
D. RECOMMENDED TEXTBOOK AND READINGS
The main textbook is: Warren B. Chik & Saw Cheng Lim, Information and Communications Technology Law in Singapore (Academy Publishing, Law Practice Series, July 2020). You can purchase the book (both physical and electronic copies) from the Singapore Academy of Law Publishing (ask for the student discount). If you prefer, there are copies available in the reserves section of the Law Library that you can use. The other useful reference will be: Chesterman, Goh & Phang, Law and Technology in Singapore (Academy Publishing, Law Practice Series, September 2021).
Due to the rapid pace of development in the law in some areas of analysis, students will also be given instructions and pre-assigned readings via this blog one week before each lesson. Students need only refer to the SMU eLearn website for administrative information such as the Project Schedule and the Grade Book as well as to share project papers and presentation materials. Students will be expected to analyse legislative provisions and/or cases that are indicated as required reading for each week.
Free access to the local legislation and subsidiary legislation may be found at the Singapore Statutes Online website at: https://sso.agc.gov.sg.
Local cases are accessible through the Legal Workbench in Lawnet. The hyperlink can be found under the Law Databases column on the SMU Library’s Law Research Navigator at: http://researchguides.smu.edu.sg/LAW.
Other online secondary legal materials on Singapore law that you may find useful include Singapore Law Watch (http://www.singaporelawwatch.sg) and Singapore Law SG (https://www.singaporelawblog.sg).
There are also other secondary resources made available from the SMU Library when doing research for your projects such as the many other digital databases available from the LRN (e.g. Lexis, Westlaw and Hein online that are all available under the Law Databases column) and the books and periodicals that are available on the library shelves.
