All that glitters isn't always gold...
..sometimes it's just gold lame. Or Lurex. Or Mylar.
OK - so what the heck is lame? (pronounced 'lah-MAY') It was traditionally fabric made from metal fibers wrapped around other fibers, like silk or rayon. It was designed to create a metallic shine to clothing, so clothes were typically gold, silver, or copper colored. Besides style, lame was used in fencing uniforms which allowed the electrified sabers to register a 'hit' against an opponent.
Lurex is a close cousin to lame. In fact, you could claim they're in the same household since Lurex vaporized metal onto other fibers.
Today most manufacturers use Mylar, a polyester film that creates a metallic look, like with the one piece bathing suit I'm wearing. The trouble with Mylar is, after a while, it starts to peel off the backing fabric. Which makes clothing unappealing.
But, on the good side of things, a mylar swimsuit like this one is just fine for passing through airport metal detectors.

Christian Bale on "Batman Begins" (2005): "At first, I was somewhat hesitant to do the role. I mean, after all, Batman is an icon. But I remember, as clear as day, being at the grocery store the day the movie opened, and this little boy saw me. He couldn't have been more than five years old. He just walked right up to me and hugged me. He hugged me, and I was so moved by it that I hugged him back. Then he looked up at me and said, 'You're my hero.' And in that moment, I knew that not only as an actor that I had done my job, but that I had made the right decision to play Batman. And I've never looked back on my the decision to play Batman since."
Bale decided early on in the audition process that he didn't want to play Batman straight, but to play him as a rage-filled monster, figuring that it might polarize writer and director Christopher Nolan. To his delight, Nolan was thrilled with his off-kilter interpretation.
Heath Ledger was considered for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman during this movie's early development before Ledger and Nolan agreed he was not right for the role. After this, he was cast as The Joker in "The Dark Knight" (2008), a role that won him an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
The infamous growl performed by Bale was much rougher in "The Dark Knight" than "Batman Begins," and has been parodied countless times due to its extreme nature. However, the common misconception is that Bale was fully responsible for this voice. The real voice, during filming, was more toned down, and then heightened to a rougher, grittier vibe during post-production under the decision of writer, producer, and director Nolan.
Bruce Wayne wears a new Batsuit in "The Dark Knight." This Batsuit was an improvement on the outfit from "Batman Begins", and made Bale more comfortable and agile in his performance. It was constructed from two hundred unique pieces of rubber, fiberglass, metallic mesh, and nylon (producing an impression of sophisticated technology), with elastic banding added for tightening the costume to fit Bale. The gauntlets had their razors made retractable and able to be fired. The suit's cowl was based on a motorcycle helmet and separated from the neck piece, allowing Bale to move his head left/right/up/down, and comes equipped with white eye lenses for when Batman turns on Bat-sonar. Bale got to keep the Batman mask from the movie after filming.
For "The Dark Knight Rises" (2012), The Batsuit consisted of one hundred ten separate pieces. The base layer was made of a polyester mesh, utilized by the military and high-tech sports manufacturers due to its breathability and moisture-retaining properties. Molded pieces of flexible urethane were then attached to the mesh to form the overall body armor plating. Carbon fiberpanels were placed inside the sections on the legs, chest, and abdomen. The new owl was sculpted from a cast of Bale's face and head to become a perfect fit for Bale. (IMDb)
Happy Birthday, Christian Bale! 🦇

after drawing the sparkly bider-man i wanted to make one for my AU... purely self-indulgent...
I doubt Peter would really take the time and expense to make a special pride suit he would only wear once or twice unless Johnny convinced him or smth so it's mostly hypothetical but still fun —
I was looking through my timeline trying to figure out when would make the most sense for this (which also included: has Johnny outed himself yet) and I ended up deciding 2014 makes the most sense because well, in 2012 Peter will be locked in a basement during June, and in 2013 he would be busy with Electro and finishing grad school, but 2014 is like... right after he and Flash get married so I can easily imagine Johnny being like "c'moooon Spidey, let's dress up together, you just got gay*-married" etc. and, well, peter does like to dress up... (otherwise he wouldn't be in spandex all the time 😂)
normally I avoid metallic or shiny spandex like the plague for suit designs cause I think it looks cheap but I made an exception for this 😂 it probably IS cheap...
closeups:
Tumblr media
posing for pictures... johnny's idea, naturally. in my timeline i think johnny outs himself in like 2011 or so after a very messy divorce (from lyja) but I'm not spending too much time on the F4 stuff in this aside from just having a general idea so if they appear in a fic I know what's going on 😅 anyway by 2014 johnny is def way more comfortable with being publicly gay, since the cat's long out of the bag, though he's still got a lot of issues... but he's good at pretending to be okay :)
Tumblr media
but also he still has a crush on peter 😂 tfw you have the hots for your superhero friend who just got married
peter actually already knows how johnny feels about him by the time he gets married, i just thought the dialogue was funny
Tumblr media
I thought it would be fun if the lens frames were sparkly... normally I have his frames out of vulcanized black rubber (like car tire rubber) (...like might actually be carved from old tires) just cause I prefer the matte and slightly soft look compared to plastic... I figure something like sparkly firm silicone or sparkly plastic is probably pretty achievable for Peter to make. And the lenses would just be his normal bulletproof lenses but with an iridescent film on the outside to make them a little rainbowy...
and I think in 2014 irl holographic glitter spandex was like... something that existed that you could buy lol so i figure he can very carefully sew a holographic spider on.... so the spiders are like, that silvery white rainbow glitter kind of look
no webbing because there's a limit to how much labor and time peter would be willing to put into a flashy, kind of useless costume that he wouldn't be able to/want to wear very often... (and i wasn't a fan of how it looked)
Tumblr media
bisexual fingers. there's a dirty joke in there somewhere.
Tumblr media
it's difficult to come up with body-covering outfits that are suitable for summer weather as-is but the fact that he's wearing polyester spandex underneath really adds a layer of "i'm going to get heatstroke and die" to this outfit. lots of linen though. at least the armpits are athletic mesh.
also yeah the spidey shirt is a leotard with a snap crotch so. he's really just hoping that doesn't unroll under his clothes cause it would absolutely hang down very visibly from under his shirt if it were to fall. (maybe he can use his electrostatic sticking powers to just. hold it in place...)
he also can't roll down the waistband of his tights because it's more rigid than the rest of his costume on account of that's where he keeps all his spare web cartridges and it would suck if they all fell out LOL
hm i just noticed i accidentally gave peter a purple happy trail oops just pretend that's black
anyway
that's AU bider-man
oh
Tumblr media
i also drew this which is much more corny/embarrassing but i thought it was a cute idea — by necessity has to be after flash is public and transitioning etc… so 2016 at the earliest but i drew this more like 2017 or 2018, after she's been on hrt and stuff and is probably more confident
i don't think there's a worry of accidentally spotlighting her/outing her because, well, she probably doesn't pass in a lot of people's eyes… broad shoulders, sideburns, etc. but… peter thinks she's pretty ❤️
i was gonna draw more of the gang but then the list kept expanding like, oh should i include X, what about Y? and it was. too many people. so then i just decided to only draw flash and peter 😂
they should have stickers on their shirts though... like a polyamory sticker... or pins...
*as of most recent plot updates in 2024, Flash starts living publicly as a woman around the time she and Peter get married, but it's probably still legally a gay marriage (at first) even if Flash is like, "Actually, I'm a girl. Surprise!" lmao

The Rising Popularity of Metalized Polyester Film in Packaging Industries
In recent years, metalized polyester film has made significant strides in the packaging industry. With its impressive barrier properties, attractive appearance, and versatile applications, this innovative material is capturing the attention of manufacturers and consumers alike.
Metalized polyester film is a specialized type of film made from polyester that undergoes a metallization process. During this process, a thin layer of metal, typically aluminum, is deposited onto one side of the film, creating a reflective, metallic surface. This unique characteristic gives the film its distinct appearance and various beneficial qualities.
One of the primary reasons for the growing popularity of metalized polyester film is its exceptional barrier properties. The metal layer acts as a barrier against light, moisture, gases, and odors, providing an effective solution for preserving the quality and freshness of various products. This makes it an ideal choice for food and beverage packaging, where protection from external factors is crucial.
Additionally, metalized polyester film offers excellent heat resistance, making it suitable for applications that involve high temperature processing and storage. The film's ability to withstand extreme temperatures without compromising its structural integrity is of great importance in the packaging of items such as microwaveable meals and hot fill products.
Another advantage of metalized polyester film lies in its versatility. It can be easily laminated with other materials, such as paper or plastic, to create composite films that possess even more desirable properties. This adaptability opens the door for a wide range of applications, including snack packaging, pharmaceutical blister packs, and cosmetic packaging.
Moreover, metalized polyester film is an eco-friendly option compared to some traditional packaging materials. It is lightweight, reducing transportation costs and, consequently, carbon emissions. Additionally, as a recyclable material, it contributes to sustainable practices and reduces waste in landfills.
In terms of consumer appeal, metalized polyester film offers an aesthetically pleasing appearance. The reflective and metallic surface gives products a premium and luxurious finish, enhancing shelf appeal and catching the attention of potential buyers. This is particularly advantageous for brands aiming to create a strong visual impact and establish a memorable presence in a competitive market.
As the packaging industry continues to embrace advancements in materials technology, it is no surprise that metalized polyester film is gaining traction. Its impressive barrier properties, versatility, environmental benefits, and visual appeal make it an appealing choice for manufacturers and consumers alike. With ongoing research and development, we can expect further improvements and innovative applications of this remarkable film, taking packaging solutions to new heights.

ArtSchoolGlasses Judges Rants About Watches the Bridgerton Spinoff!
Because why not?
Obviously, spoilers ahead. And also, if you can’t tell, this will largely be me complaining. (And most of that complaining will pertain to the costumes and fashion history.) So if you can’t handle it when someone dislikes something you enjoy? Maybe don’t click the “Keep Reading”...
On to episode one!
Starting with a disclaimer? Okay...
“It is fiction inspired by fact.” Well, that much was obvious before I hit play, but thanks for the reminder, I suppose? The issue for me being, there’s a difference between fictional takes on history that do the research but choose to take wild liberties for a reason (The Great, Our Flag Means Death) and a show that has the clear intent to put as little research and effort as possible into a project and make it up as they go along (Bridgerton).
In compliment to the show I will say: damn good job picking out the actress to play Charlotte. So often the younger and older versions of a character look so unalike that it sort of ruins the story for me. But this was A+.
Had to pause and face palm because Charlotte is explaining to her brother how her “underpinnings” (stays) are made from “the bones of whales” and I just *SCREAMS* No. NO. Stays and corsets were not made from the actual bones of whales Jesus Christ. “Whalebone” in stays meant baleen. Which is the filter-looking bit of a whale’s mouth. It is possible—possible—that the busk inserted into the centre front of a pair of stays might be carved from whalebone instead of wood, but I can almost guarantee no one working on this show even knows what a busk is, or knows the difference between a busk and boning. (And even then, not all boning was made from baleen anyways.)
Also the fact that she’s saying “corset” repeatedly, but stays was more commonly what they were called at this time. Corset as a term only began to be used more regularly in the Regency Era.
Six minutes in and already “My CoRsEt Is KiLlInG mEeEe!!1! I cAn’T bReAtHe!! My CoRsEt Is GoInG tO sLiCe Up My InSiDeS bECaUsE oF tHe WhAlE bOnEs!!1! I’m GoInG tO bLeEd To DeAtH iF i MoVe!!” 😑
Charlotte would have, obviously, grown up wearing stays, and would therefore be used to them. Stays that would have been specifically made to fit her body. And because they would have had hand-stitched eyelet holes—not metal ones—for the lacing, she would not be able to tight lace it to the point where she couldn’t breathe. Not without damaging such an expensive garment. (Expensive largely because of the sheer amount of labour that goes into making a pair of stays.) Nor would she choose to tight lace to that extent, because women in the 18th Century weren’t all laced to within an inch of their lives. That simply wasn’t the case. Women could indeed breathe in the past, otherwise we all wouldn’t be here. Yes, shockingly, you could move when wearing stays or a corset.
Flash forward into the Regency era and Princess Charlotte has just died. Um… This was a massive moment for England and the Queen doesn’t seem even remotely touched by it? Also, really the first mention of the Queen having children that I can recall, I don’t remember seeing any of them, and isn’t the whole reason this is a Regency romance is because, you know, it’s the Regency Era and there’s a Prince Regent? He doesn’t seem to exist in this world for whatever reason? Even though the period is literally named for him?
The amount of brocade-patterned polyester in this show that reminds me of my mother’s throw pillows from the 90s…
See, the problem with knowing where a lot of these filming locations are is you know how far apart they should be in reality and end up desperately trying to stop your brain from rationalising how far and fast a carriage would have to travel to get from Blenheim to Chatsworth to Bath to Hampton Court. (This is a personal issue; all the period dramas do this, so this isn’t just me hating on Bridgerton.)
Oh my. What an introduction to young Lady Danbury. Worthy of Harlots, I believe. (That sounds snarky. I mean it as a compliment. Excellent. Love her already.)
Hairstyles on the women far too tall for the 1760s. Hair would have been worn much closer to the head. But, you know, ✨aesthetics✨.
Though I will say, if we were having this show take place in the 1770s, and tall hair was fashionable—and Charlotte was more a fan of large hair, which, she was known to critique women like the Duchess of Devonshire for hair that was too tall—I will say, they do a wonderful job of adapting the 1770s styles to include afros and braids and locks and twists in this series. So that, again, I can commend them on.
Gotta love that the wedding invitations they sent out clearly say “Full Dress” and you just have men with their 2020s hair and no wigs, no powder, no curls. Some of the older men have wigs. But younger men? No! They must be conventionally attractive from a modern perspective otherwise what is the point!!
Also, not all of these women look like they’re wearing hoops/panniers, and they should for a formal court setting.
So, George’s coat when we first meet him… The tailoring isn’t quite right and feels far too modern. There are no buttons on it except for two at the back for some reason, just buttons on the vest. Also, where is the lace? Lace was expensive. (It was time consuming to make.) You are the King of England, you’re supposed to not only buy expensive things to encourage consumption and put money in the hands of artisans, but you also need to look expensive so that people can see you are not just the King, but one to a prosperous nation who can afford these luxuries. Your dress at this time spoke for you, and right now I’m seeing a man who can’t afford to have his clothes properly tailored, or even get his hair done.
I feel like a lot of the costumes would be less egregious if they weren’t so cheap looking? There’s really just something about the metres and metres of polyester used and plastic trimmings that… just makes this look off. Plus any close up makes the modern tailoring far too apparent. Clearly no research done into 18th Century tailoring, dressmaking, sewing techniques, etc…
I think I’m going to like Lady Danbury more than Charlotte, honestly.
Close up shot of the pleats at the back of Charlotte’s wedding dress. I’m not even sure what’s going on there. I swear it looks like someone velcroed it onto her back.
Oh god, glitter fabric… No, please. I hate the glitter fabric, Bridgerton. Stop. 😭
Ah, I see. The entirety of the drama in this plot is going to be a miscommunication trope, I assume surrounding George’s health.
Another flash forward into the Regency; Oh my god Charlotte’s children exist!
And there it ends. Charlotte alone in bed on her wedding night because George won’t speak to her about, I assume, his health.
I have low hopes Bridgerton has the capacity to properly tell a story that will no doubt largely focus on mental health and do so respectfully and carefully. I do not look forward to watching them use his deteriorating health for the sake of ✨DRAMA!✨
Anyways, Lady Danbury was the most interesting character so far and she barely had any screen time. All my hopes for this show being even remotely entertaining rest on her. 🖤 An A+ for Lady Danbury, A+ for Charlotte’s casting, and… a D for everything else?

WHAT ARE THE BEST TYPES OF WINDOW TINT FOR YOUR HOME
TYPES OF WINDOW TINT
1. Dyed window tint: This is the most basic type of window tint and consists of a single layer of dyed polyester film applied to the glass surface that can reduce heat, UV radiation, and glare.
2. Metalized window tint: This type of film has metal particles embedded in it and is effective at reflecting heat while also providing privacy from outside eyes due to its reflective properties.
3. Carbon window tint: The carbon particles within this film absorb and reject solar energy, resulting in good protection against both heat and UV rays while maintaining a high level of visibility from inside the home.
4. Ceramic window tint: Featuring ceramic nanoparticles suspended in a polyester matrix, this type of window tint offers superior heat and UV protection and is virtually invisible from the outside.
WHICH HOME WINDOW TINT IS BEST?
The best home window tint for you will depend on your specific needs. Dyed windows tints are the most economical option, but offer less protection than other types of film. Metalized and Carbon tints provide better heat rejection and UV protection while maintaining a good level of visibility; however, they can reduce visible light transmission more than dyed films. Ceramic tints are the most advanced home window film available, providing superior heat and UV protection while remaining virtually undetectable from the outside. Consider all your options carefully to determine which home window film will be best suited to meet your needs.
BENEFITS OF WINDOW TINTING
Some of the benefits of home window tinting include: improved energy efficiency, reduction in glare, protection from UV rays and heat, improved home privacy, and a more comfortable home environment. Window tint can help reduce energy costs by blocking out the sun’s heat during summer months and trapping in heat during winter months. Additionally, window tinting helps to protect furniture from fading due to UV exposure and can reduce the amount of glare that enters the home. For increased home privacy, window film also serves as an effective barrier for outside eyes. By providing better insulation and comfort levels within your home, window tint is a great way to ensure your home remains cozy all year long!
HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT WINDOW TINT FOR YOUR HOME
When selecting residential window tint, it is important to consider factors such as the amount of heat and UV protection you need, how much visibility you require from inside your home, and your budget. Choosing a window film that meets all these criteria can ensure that you get the best window tint for your needs. Additionally, it is important to select a product from a reliable vendor with good customer service so that you can be sure to enjoy years of performance with minimal issues.
Window film can help make your home more comfortable and efficient by providing excellent protection against heat and UV rays while also reducing glare and increasing privacy. By weighing all the available options carefully, you can find the right residential window tint for your home that will provide you with the right protection and aesthetic appeal.
INSTALLATION TIPS
When installing residential window tint, it is important to read and follow the instructions carefully. Additionally, wear protective eyewear and gloves to protect yourself from any sharp edges or debris. Make sure to measure the home windows accurately so that you can apply the film properly without any wrinkles or bubbles. If you are unsure about how to install window film, it is best to seek professional assistance for a perfect installation every time!
Hiring a professional window tinting company can help you save time and money, while ensuring that the home window tint is applied correctly. A reputable company will have qualified and experienced technicians who use high quality materials to provide excellent results. Make sure to research different companies before making a decision to ensure the best service possible.
MAINTENANCE AND CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Home window tint should be maintained and cleaned regularly for optimal performance. When cleaning home window tint, use a microfiber cloth or soft brush to gently remove dirt or dust without damaging the film. Carefully follow the manufacturer’s instructions on how to clean home window tints as different types of films require different cleaning methods.
It is also important to avoid using abrasive materials, such as scrapers or razor blades, as these can damage home window tinting. If you need to remove home window tint for any reason, it should only be done by a professional technician who knows how to safely and effectively do so.
If you are considering having window tint installed on your home, contact the professionals at Tint USA of Charlotte for a FREE quote.

1. It Blocks UV Rays
While many tints offer UV protection, ceramic film takes it to the next level. It prevents harmful rays from entering your car during the winter months, which can cause skin damage and even blinding glare while driving. While untinted windows block a small amount of UV rays, high-quality window tint blocks up to 99% of them. This protects you and your family, as well as your car’s interior, which can quickly fade from long-term exposure to sunlight without protection. It also offers enhanced shatter resistance, which keeps the glass in your vehicle together if it is broken. This can help reduce the risk of injuries caused by flying glass shards in the event of an accident or break-in attempt. However, it’s important to maintain a regular cleaning routine in order to avoid smudges that can impair your visibility and reduce the effectiveness of the tint. Make sure to use non-ammonia cleaners to prevent corrosive build-up.
2. It Keeps Your Car Cool
Unlike traditional tints that contain dyed polyester sheets, ceramic window tint is coated with microscopic ceramic particles that help to reject a significant amount of the sun's heat-generating infrared radiation. This helps to keep the interior temperature of your car significantly cooler, resulting in less need for excessive air conditioning usage, which in turn lowers energy costs and keeps you comfortable on hot summer days. Another standout feature of this advanced window tint is its enhanced shatter resistance. When properly installed by professional teams at Alta Mere in Plano, Texas , it will help to hold shattered glass together in the event of an accident or a Christmas shopping break-in attempt, which may prevent injuries caused by flying glass shards. Moreover, ceramic window tint is non-conductive and doesn't interfere with radio, mobile phone, or electronic device signals. This allows for a clearer view of the road ahead and can enhance your safety. It also doesn't fade, bubble, or crack over time, ensuring that it will last for years to come.
3. It Increases Privacy All Year
During the winter months, it can be difficult to get around because of the snow and ice that covers your windshield. Fortunately, ceramic window tint can help protect your car’s interior from the damaging effects of the sun’s UV rays. This is because the ceramic particles in the film help to absorb and dissipate heat, reducing glare. Additionally, ceramic window tint can make it harder for people outside your vehicle to see inside your vehicle. This is beneficial for anyone who carries expensive items in their car or wants to maintain privacy while driving. This type of window tint is also non-metal, which means it won’t interfere with cell and electronic signals like Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. It’s also safer to drive because it helps to hold shattered glass together in the event of an accident or break-in. This prevents shards of glass from flying into the driver and passengers, potentially causing injuries. The high level of heat rejection and UV protection provided by the ceramic particles in this type of window tint can save you money on energy costs in addition to protecting your car’s interior from sun damage.
4. It Prevents Glare During The Winter
The glare caused by sun rays is not only annoying, but it can also make driving dangerous. Ceramic window tint prevents excessive sunlight from entering the vehicle, reducing glare and improving visibility on the road. The advanced materials installed by a professional installer offer superior solar rejection capabilities, blocking out a substantial amount of heat and UV rays. This helps to keep the interior of the car cool and comfortable, and reduces reliance on air conditioning while driving, resulting in potential energy savings. Ceramic window tint is durable, lasting longer than regular dyed films that often bubble or become discolored over time. By following a simple maintenance routine that includes regular cleaning with a non-ammonia glass cleaner, you can extend the lifespan of your tint and enjoy its benefits for years to come.
