Mermay 2021 - Daughters of the air

As a kid I always got frustrated when people talked about the original ending of the little Mermaid. It is a heartbreaking one, but it always bothered me that everyone ignored the strong message of hope in the Daughters of the air taking the little Mermaid with them. There is comfort in an otherwise unfair situation, and to leave it out of retellings feels somewhat cruel to me.

Als ich klein war, war es für mich immer frustrierend, wenn Leute vom Ende der kleinen Meerjungfrau sprachen. Es ist nämlich herzzerreißend, aber viele ignorieren den letzten Teil, wo die Töchter der Luft sie retten und der Geschichte Hoffnung geben. Einer so ungerechten Situation auch diesen Trost zu nehmen fand ich immer gemein.

Quando ero piccolo ero spesso frustrato dalla gente che parlava del finale della Sirenetta. È straziante, sì, ma c'è speranza nelle figlie dell'aria salvano la sirena, cosa che molti ignorano o omettono dall'adattamento. Togliere quella piccola consolazione, da una situazione così tremenda mi è sempre sembrato ingiusto

Have one more 2 year old Mermay pic: Horror!Sans with the prompts kelp, for the very sweet sxh! If you’re curious, the hardest part of drawing kelp is literally everything. I’m officially stating here that I will never draw kelp ever again. No more. This kelp was probably the reason I ran out of steam for Mermay 2021 (AND Mermay 2022) because it just seemed like an unsurmountable task to color it. But strangely enough I like the end results. I feel like I wasn’t ready to color kelp 2 years ago and had to mature my art, so being able to color it now feels like I progressed? But mostly I’m glad that it’s over! XDD
