reblog if you believe fanfics are as valid as books that were published and sold by authors who write as their main careers. I'm trying to prove a point

Crosshair: I think we should have glow stick juice injected in our bones when we're born, so if we break our bones, we get a fun little surprise. Wrecker: What's the surprise? Tech: Blood poisoning.

For the last decade or so, I’ve been routinely attending a ride-on lawnmower race. I’ve always wanted to participate, but the high cost of used mowers is better spent on more practical vehicles, like literally anything else. Sometimes, though, the universe sends you a message. And in my case, that message came in the form of an awkward leg of a huge trade-in scam.
Picture, if you will, the humble redneck. They await the approach of big, fast domestic mowers. John Deeres, Cub Cadets, even weird modified Chinese stuff they looted from Aliexpress. There is jubilance, but that soon comes to an awkward hush. An unfamiliar engine note approaches.
My International 1480 combine harvester, all ten tons of it, is barrelling down the highway at a clip somewhere between “tepid” and “jaunty.” Even though I have shown up for a race, I am sandbagging a little bit, making sure that the bets get settled against my vehicle before I show them the might of a fully operational monster such as mine.
Technically, there is no violation. I had looked at the rulebook from every angle in the previous year: it has the correct number of wheels, the proper agricultural intent, and with precise work on the tiller, it can even (poorly) mow a suburban lawn. Is it modified? Oh yes, yes indeed, but I see the nitrous bottles poking out from the rows of Kubotas at the starting line.
And when I leave the starting line, it is a thing of beauty. At least for a few milliseconds. It seems that the wizards at International Harvester simply did not comprehend of a situation in which the frame of their combine would be launched into the air by means of one thousand eight hundred foot-pounds of supercharger-bolstered torque. I had erroneously believed that the loose soil of the rural community would let the wheels dip in, but now I am facing directly into the sky, having twelve o’ clocked hard on my wheelie, shooting flames from my exhaust and whirling vertical blades of death towards the grandstand.
It’s not about whether you win or lose. Sometimes it’s about how many pages you add to the rulebook.

Mermay au drabble
When Crosshair had gifted Tech with vambraces he'd immediately put them on. Crosshair had checked one more time that he got the fit right with a touch that seemed to linger a little longer then necessary, but he hadn't said anything. After all Tech himself often fixated on small details other would find inconsequential, whatever Crosshair was inspecting had to be important.
After a moment he'd released Techs arm and they went about their day helping the deep sea clan prepare for winter. He'd thought that would be all there was to it until he put them on the next day and Crosshair lit up. Not just his expression, but his tail glowed with a pattern Tech didn't recognize. His mate swam up to him and pressed against him, letting Tech feel the stutter in the deep sea mers breath.
"You wore them." Crosshair barely whispered against his gills, but the suprise landed through Tech like a dagger. Of course he wore them! They were practical, no then were custom for his needs. Far beyond practical. He could have traded for simple vambraces, but these were so tailored to his habits that he wasn't sure he would have been able to explain to another armor how to make them. Only someone who truly knew him could have made such a perfect set of armor.
"Of course. They are far more convenient than carrying my bag on patrol. Why would you think I would not use them?"
Crosshair stiffened against him. Instinctively he brought an arm around to comfort his partner, but only the sound of a tail scraping the walls answered him. Puzzled, Tech stroked along the long line of Crosshairs spines as he waited for some answer.
"... We may run into other mer."
"Hopefully not. After the last run in I'd think other clans would have learned I am far stronger-" Tech stopped as he felt Crosshair huff against his gills. He was missing something, something Crosshair thought was obvious. He smiled and leaned into Crosshair as he realized what his mate was getting at. "I will wear any mark you give me with pride. Although these are my second favorite."

I got a laptop with Windows 11 for an IT course so I can get certified, and doing the first time device set-up for it made me want to commit unspeakable violence
Windows 11 should not exist, no one should use it for any reason, it puts ads in the file explorer and has made it so file searches are also web searches and this cannot be turned off except through registry editing. Whoever is responsible for those decisions should be killed, full stop.
Switch to linux, it's free and it's good.

I swear I can't do quick warm up doodles lol
Got a sad though for an au Oni and I had written. In #melnagaisma we end it at a point where it in the air what's going to happen to mer Cross, but I was thinking about if they had been able to get Crosshair back to the ocean and then something happened to Tech. How maybe Crooshair would eventually run into a mer Mayday.
It'd be a long courtship, with Mayday slowly wooing a Crosshair who is still very much in love with the human who saved him. Helping him start to grieve and accept the loss of the person he thought would be his mate.
"He is- was... my everything."
"I have my share of ghosts too. I can live with sharing your heart with his ghost."

Dear Americans, get a VPN right now. I promise you, the orange man is going to mess with online privacy. Censorship and surveillance are going to be insane. Protect your privacy. This post explains the importance of a VPN quite well (it's from 2017, but it still holds up). Do some research on which VPN you should get. Do not get one from any of the countries in the 14 eyes alliance or those that cooperate with them (read the post linked above for more information). I'm not American, but I use Proton VPN, which is located in Switzerland (I use it mostly for torrenting). Protect yourselves. Times are going to be tough.
