Melban - obviously, this one goes kinda goes without saying for me. i absolutely love the dynamic between these two, and their shared history as well. they are both very much sick in the head and have so many issues they each struggle with, but at the same time they cant take anything seriously. there are countless interactions between them which are just so so homoerotic, if not just really sweet. these two quite literally will go to hell and back for the other without a second thought, and i adore that (say its bros bein dude all you want, you cant convince me they didnt fuck in purgatory and on many other occasions)

Elilaine - theyre like melban but less punchy, more of the "normal about expressing love for the other". i know there arent many deep interactions between Elizabeth and Elaine, but i just, once again, think that they have a really adorable dynamic and would just make for the most lovely couple (with equally deceivingly harmless looks, but very much the potential to whoop ass if need be)

Geldris - these two, despite canonically being just a straight couple, are one of the most queer duos in the damn series,,, they just are, man, idk. big fan of them both being very gothic and stuff, and obviously im a sucker for how much zeldris buckles at the knees for anything gelda does,,, love them

Hendreyfus - old,,, old man yaoi my beloved (i just think theyre really adorable and are like and old married couple - very cutes!!) (also yeah old men)

i also do love the rarepair (? polycule) of all time, that being melban x elilaine,,, we should have seen more interactions between mel and elaine, and between ellie and ban!! they definitely got up to all sorts of stuff, i just know it

Speaking of Meliodas living unchanged for 3,000 years, I am once again thinking about how much Ban's immortality and the Sins being exactly who they are must have matter to Meliodas.

Meliodas has spent 3,000 years with over 100 Elizabeths in Britannia. Who knows how many friends and people he cared about he has lost during all those years (for various reasons, to various things). And then there's the Seven Deadly Sins.

Ban - who lacks the usual fragility that the humans have acquired over the years and just won't die. Because he's immortal and he can literally explode as still not die. When's the last time Meliodas could just battle without having to think about accidentally killing his friends?

But there's also King and Diane, who have so much longer lifespans than humans. And Merlin, who Meliodas has known for 3,000 years. And Gowther, who is a doll and can get his head cut off and keep moving. And Escanor, who admittedly is human with a human lifespan and a curse that is killing him - but also, just try killing him during the day.

Just... Meliodas, after years living with humans and watching Elizabeth die again and again, being surrounded by people who he doesn't have to constantly worry about them being killed even if they're going against who-knows-what. Because they can handle themselves.

(Also imagine Mel's guilt at his own relief about Ban's immortality when he knows the pain it brings him oof)

(This was written weeks ago but was in my queue. I am moving back to my college town Saturday so busy days are to come but now I have things to procrastinate 😈)

So YAYAYAY time for season 2 (my fave season overall) !! I’ve rewatched this one before, so i actually remember some of this lol

i have thots abt the introduction of power levels that will be told beneath the cut

i mean it’s all very dragon ball (which i love, but in a very different way). I feel like they are just better executed in manga format, because saying the numbers out loud just kinda breaks up the flow of dialogue and action. Plus the numbers never stay accurate since the characters are always powering up and nakaba lowkey just stops using them at one point. so like assault mode!Meliodas has a power of 142,000. BUT he defeats enemies with powers higher than that and is shown to gain even more power. But this is the highest number we have for him. Overall, theyre clunky, not updated enough to be accurate, and just kinda cheesy :/ I feel like plot could have been added to justify and explain the eye of Balor (AKA Drole if i remember correctly) but it’s just used as an excuse to quantify the characters’ strength since this season is mainly focused on physical and emotional growth, as seen by the Ishtar Arc (one of my fave arcs hehe)

merlin’s friendship with hawk is actually so cute tho

so Meliodas’s beginner stats (still missing his powers) are magic 400, strength 960, spirit 2010. The way I see it, his insane spirit strength could mean one of two things: bitch is just hella determined in his quest to end their curses and protect his friends (likely) or merlin taking away his power only affects his strength and magic since spirit has to do with your mind (also likely) anyway what do y’all think?

maybe it’s driven down due to number of battle deaths like the mortality rate of the middle ages lol

So the whole concept of sacred treasures is really cool to me because they are clearly something unique to the Sins, despite all of the sacred treasures being very different and made of different materials. I mean Gowther’s is straight up made of light Still, them having weapons that serve as a constant and grow with them as they become more powerful is just a neat concept to me. I just wish we could have seen Ban use Courechouse more than just a few episodes. There really isn’t a plot reason he couldn’t have had it beforehand.

I honestly love that Meliodas destroyed the albion on his own. Like yes, he is my OP blorbo BUT he’s also supposed to be incredibly powerful in canon, which we haven’t seen him go all out with an enemy yet. Not only does he know all about albions (bc he’s a demon), but as leader of the 10 Commandments, he probably was on the controlling side of the golems. Then, as a member of Stigma, he fought against them. Not to mention, this is when he finally gets Lostvayne (the DEMON sword) back. This moment for me is when he gets to show off the perks of him being a powerful and high ranking demon. Might fuck around and do a full post later on Meliodas’s relationship to his own race and what/who he is lol

Plus, I think the demon king’s possession of Meliodas AND Zeldris can be (somewhat) compared to Sariel’s aging up of Solaseed. Anyway, i feel like this can support my hypothesis of Zeldris and Meliodas are just babies who will eventually look like adults. Also, I think them being super young just enhances the angst quite well.

outlines of au verses i need to flesh out more ft. other interests outside of nnt. his canon largely remains the same but it's often so far back in his past it's not often relevant to current events.

hsr - a divergence of the division impact verse. keeps his criminal roots and was picked up by elio and sam after the planet he was living on with a underwent a stellaron disaster that led to his halovian partner - the most recent elizabeth incarnation - becoming an emanator of the abundance and being separated. his memory's spotty from the time spent dying repeatedly on end in the vacuum of space after merlin's spell partially succeeded and he's not a fan of fate at all, but he still puts stock into prophecies, especially if it guarantees an end to his curse and his father. he gets placed on the express a few months prior to the trailblazer joining and keeps an eye on them, subtly ensuring the script stays on track.

kh - the demons (specifically meliodas) adopted kairi after she got blasted there following the fall of radiant garden who is like a brother/father figure to her. she has a lot of light but she isn't a goddess and feels weirdly fundamental, which is strange and worth keeping an eye on but she never did age much through the 150 or so years she spent there, aging only about 2 years at a crawl (universal time zones, it's out of sync with the rest and time is much faster in this world, not that the demons outside of dk know this) until she was swept out of the demon realm to destiny islands. the king had gowther install a failsafe that would lock her memories, rendering specific details meaningless and blurring them until she came in contact with meliodas or zeldris again. meliodas and kairi eventually run into each again when kairi starts traveling around kh3/post kh3 .

ff - sexy concept: meliodas as diabolos. well, depending on the game his summonable incarnation can be a dragonoid like a bahamut but most of the time he's the demon diabolos. something something chaos originating from the void like cloud of darkness so he's tangentially always been a voidsent. he has his humanoid form but he also has the eldritch demon of darkness, dream walking, nightmares and "granting wishes". it's specifically remake/rebirth rn since i'm playing through it and he hangs with johnny after meeting the guy on his way out from midgar. he sighs as his friend is conned into getting the rundown shack but he helps with it. he can "join" the party after the costa del sol quests.

zelda - mel reacquired his demon king power some time after most of the sins had passed away, but did not take on the title itself and decided to watch the events of the world unfold from the background. he was taken aback when he returned from the sealed off demon realm one day to find the world had undergone an extinction level event. the other realms were mostly intact but now there were some beings about calling themselves deities and reconstructing the dead, fractured world anew. he watched them work, calling themselves 'goddesses'. he watched them leave, never truly deigning to return to the "hyrule" they built. he watched another entity "hylia" guard the will the previous three left behind. he watched others, self appointed demon kings, surged out of the demon realm to seek that will and subsequently fail. it was not his quarrel, so he watches and lets the fools reap what they sow when destruction finds them in the end. he watches and watches and watches history unfold. he has all the time in the world. at least the show bores him only sometimes.

The following morning, Diane walks besides Hawk's mom, who is happily trotting along the floor with a smile across her face.

"Hey Hawk's mom, not to get too personal or anything, but what do you eat?" Diane asks. Hawk's mom lets out a groan "What was that again?" She groans again and Diane giggles, not understanding the big pig. "Good talk Hawk's mom!"

Inside the Boar Hat, Ban, Gowther, King, Meliodas and Y/N are all sat at the bar, King laying his head his head on the table recovering from a hangover. On the other side of the bar, Y/N leans on the table, resting her chin on her hand while watching Ban and Gowther with an amused look.

"What are you doing?" Ban questions, unbothered by the fact that the man is currently squishing his pec.

"This is the greeting the captain showed me yesterday." Gowther responded. 

"I told you, that's not what it was!" Hawk says. Gowther stops squeezing Ban's pec and sits besides King, who's head is looking up.

"So does anyone have a clue where we're supposed to go next?" Ban asks.

"Any chance you might have a lead on where the next Sin might be?" King says, looking between Y/N and a back facing Meliodas. Y/N shakes her head, sitting up straight.

"Escanor and Merlin." Gowther says.

"No." Meliodas says, turning around to face them. "First thing I'm going to do is break into the capital and get my sword back!"

"What are you talking about? You mean the dragon hilt you lost?" Ban questions.

"I'm not going anywhere without it." Meliodas says. Elizabeth stops her cleaning and looks over to them, Hawk continuing to eat his scraps as Meliodas slams his fists on the bar. "Okay, now who's coming with me?"

"Fun as that sounds, I think I'll pass." Ban says, resting his hands on the back of his head, which he won't admit, that he got from Y/N.

"Besides, it's your own fault you lost it in the first place." King adds, resting on top of the bar. 

"He has a point." Gowther continues. Meliodas looks to Y/N, who just gives him a shrug and nodding in agreement. 

"I'm afraid he does, Mels." She responds. Minutes later, Meliodas is under Elizabeth's skirt, hugging her legs.

"I'm so sad!" He says, Elizabeth petting his head.

"Oh, there, there." As if sensing what's going on, Diane bursts her face through the window.

"CAPTAIN!" She shouts. More minutes pass as Meliodas and Y/N are currently now fixing the broken window, Diane staring in at them.

"Right. The Coffin of Eternal Darkness" Y/N says, hammering away at wood. "That dragon hilt is a fragment of a ritual relic."

"The sword Sir Meliodas has?" 

"Yeah, according to an old legend, it's part of a relief that was created a long time ago, one that the Goddess, Giant, Fairy and Human races created to seal way the Demon Race." Meliodas explains.

"Why do the Holy Knights want it?" Elizabeth asks. "What could they be planning to do with something like that?"

"More than likely, the resurrection of the Demon Race." Y/N answers, turning to face the others.

"Those miserable bastards again?" Ban adds, sighing.

"Now that you mention it, wasn't it Hendrickson who turned Dale into that monster?" King reminds, "It's not every day you see somebody who can do that."

"True. Excellent point." Gowther says.

"Hendrickson..." Elizabeth repeats, "I don't understand why he and Dreyfus would do such a thing. It doesn't make sense. Why would he resurrect the Demon Race? What could he hope to accomplish?"

"Maybe he just wants to be friends with them?" Hawk says.

"Oh Hawk, How I wish to be as innocent as you" Y/N says, frowning.

"No way!" Elizabeth says.

"Well, then, what does he want?"

"I wish we knew." Meliodas says.

"Hey Captain, if that sword of yours really can resurrect the Demon race, and Hendrickson has it, do you think he's already brought them back?" Diane says, looking at him through the window.

"Not yet. It's a pretty powerful seal, so even if they do manage to break it, there's bound to be some kind of sign -." As if on cue, a loud rumbling is heard and they turn around to see Hawk worrying.

"It's a sight. I think I'm getting a sign!"

"That you gotta poop." Ban says.

"The seal is about to be broken!" Hawk says, slowly trotting over to the door.

"Hawk, are you okay?" Elizabeth says, standing up to check Hawk.

"Hang on. I get why those guys are going after the sword. But I don't understand what they wanted with Elizabeth." Hawk says, squealing as his stomach rumbles and groans. They look down as they think, however a new voice cuts through the air.

"It's simple." They say from behind Elizabeth, who gasps and turns to face the intruder. "She's the last key to breaking the seal." The Sins all turn serious and look at the intruder.

"Oh, crap! Get away from her! Elizabeth!" Meliodas shouts, jumping forwards with his hand held out, however a circle of light surrounds the intruder, Elizabeth and Hawk before they disappear, Meliodas landing where they once stood.

"Elizabeth!" Y/N shouts, grabbing her Axe from behind the counter.

"DAMN IIITTTT!!!!" Meliodas shouts, the loudest anyone has every heard him shout, it causing the boar hat to rumble. He quickly runs to grab the sword Elizabeth given to him, running out the Boar Hat, Y/N following close behind him.

"What the hell!" Ban says, now being serious.

"That was probably a mage!" Gowther says. "They can appear and disappear in a blink of an eye." The rest of the sins follow their leaders out of the Tavern, who are running and looking around.

"Captain! Lieutenant!" Diane shouts down to them.

"Follow us! We're heading to the capital to save Elizabeth!" Meliodas shouts.

"But how? It's more than 40 miles away." King says, floating towards them.

"Diane!" Y/N shouts, looking to the giantess.

"Gotcha!" She responds, understanding their plan.

"Not so fast." Ban says, grabbing Meliodas and Y/N in his hold, holding them tight with a wide smile on his face, "I changed my mind. I'm going to!"

"Ban! Would you stop fooling around!" King says, however Ban looks down at his leaders with a smirk, who look up to him.

"You two have got your reasons for going. I've got mine." Ban says and Y/N nods to him.

"I'm coming too." Gowther says, walking over and wrapping his arms around Ban's waist.

"Oh, come on, Gowther. What are you doing?" King says, watching as the four Sins are grabbed by Diane, being lifted up into the air.

"Ban and the Captain always fight, so seeing them in action could be educational. And the lieutenant is always getting between them before she too is pulled into the fighting, and I do want to see how she fights at the level of power."

"Here goes. It might be a little off, so be careful." Diane says, looking at them with a worried expression. 

"Just get us close, and we'll take it from there." Meliodas says.

"Right." Diane reals back her arm

"No matter what happens, just bring Elizabeth back safe."

"On it."

"Oh and King!" Y/N says, looking to the Fairy. He looks to her, a worried expression on his face. "See you over there." She says, winking at him. He blushes as Diane begins her run up before throwing the four Sins into the air and towards the capital, King watching will an worried yet impressed look.

The four sins are flying through the air at an unmeasurable speed, Ban being the tallest taking most of the air force.

"We're dead!" Ban says, teeth gritted.

"Did you say something?" Meliodas says.

"You'll have to speak up a bit!" Gowther says. They arrive to the capital in mere minutes, landing on the floor with a loud crash as dusts surrounds them. Holy Knights gather in front of them their weapons drawn and shields raised. The four sins are quick to come running out of the dust and towards the castle.

"The only reason we're here right now is to rescue Elizabeth! So try to keep the fighting to a minimum!" Meliodas says.

"Understood." Gowther says.

"Yeah, but we could still kick a little ass while we're here, right, Captain? Lieutenant?"

"Go straight for the kill." Meliodas says.

"Have some fun!" Y/N adds, raising her axe as the Holy Knights begin their attacks, using their abilities.

"Full Counter!"

"Recoil!" Y/N and Meliodas both use their ability to send the Holy Knight's attacks straight back at them with 10x force and power. They jump through the dust to come face to face with another Holy Knight who is clashing his fists together.

"Are you the Eight Deadly Sins? You don't look so tough to me!" He says, only for Meliodas to punch past him, the others following. More Holy Knights prepare to attack, but none of them stop Meliodas from going straight through them.

"I'm coming Elizabeth! Hang on!" Meliodas shouts as get closer to the entrance. However they come to a skidding stop as they look over to the castle.

"What's going on, have they given up? Hold on, what's that strange power?" Ban asks.

"It appears to be coming from the other side of the castle." Gowther adds as Y/N gives the air a sniff.

"It smells familiar...It's...The New King or Camelot, King Arthur!"

Hello to all fellow Seven Deadly Sins/Nanatsu no Taizai fans. Today I will be talking about something that isn’t really addressed in the Manga or Anime as far as I know.

Remember when King confronted Meliodas in Istar? He questioned Meliodas’s loyalty and his true goals, and stopped trusting him completely for a while. Now everyone, including myself, was mad at King for being a racist prick and judging Meliodas by his race. But after I did some thinking, I realize that that wasn’t the case.

Let’s be real, King distrusting Meliodas simply because of his race isn’t like him. Yes, he doesn’t like the Demon Race because of what happened to Elaine and the forest, but he *knows* Meliodas. He’s the one who saved him in his darkest hour, has been his friend and captain for years. Him being a demon alone wouldn’t make King so upset. At most he’d be a little weary of him, but get over it quickly. So what made him so upset? Simple, it’s the fact that Meliodas kept so many secrets from them.

King almost died and lost his home and race AGAIN because of the Albion. The fact that Meliodas knew about them and the Commandments but didn’t say anything beforehand most likely made King feel betrayed. And of course it would seem suspicious. Now, we know Meliodas had a good reason for keeping his race and past a secret, but the Ten Commandments? Yeah, he should’ve told them LONG ago.

Remember that the whole reason the Seven Deadly Sins were gathered in the first place was to defeat the Ten Commandments once and for all. But never ONCE did he tell them this. Bartra knew, Zaratras knew, Merlin knew, basically everyone important knew EXCEPT the people that were actually supposed to defeat them! Hell, he even withheld some information from Merlin! He apparently didn’t tell her about the curses of the Commandments, causing her to fall victim to Galand’s Commandment.

I can’t for the life of me think of a good reason as to why Mel would keep this secret. Like, it’s literally the reason they were brought together. Why would he NOT tell them? It was his responsibility as their leader to tell them and prepare them for the threat. But nah, he didn’t tell them nothing. SO many things could’ve been avoided if he had just TOLD them. Like, everything after season 1 didn’t have to happen.

I know he has trust issues, but this wasn’t even a matter of trust, it was something he absolutely HAD to tell them. They had every right to know, it’s literally the reason WHY they were brought together in the first place. He never told them about the Dragon Handle until AFTER it was stolen at Vaizel, like, SERIOUSLY Mel?! If they had knew beforehand it would’ve been better protected, maybe it would’ve never gotten stolen in the first place! It wouldn’t have been as chaotic if Mel had just told them.

But he didn’t. He never told them about the TC or the Dragon Handle. Not once. He scarred Ban over it, which honestly, was bullshit. Ban is his best friend, he should’ve expected he would do something like that. He didn’t really have a right to be angry because he brought it upon himself. Ban would’ve never messed with it if he just told them what the damn thing was. If Ban knew it was the key to the Demon Race’s seal, the race that killed Elaine, he definitely wouldn’t mess with it. But no, he went the extra length and scarred his best friend.

He put his comrades in danger by keeping this from them. Merlin got turned to stone because she didn’t know about Galand’s Commandment, Diane was badly injured because she wasn’t strong enough, King nearly died along with the Forest and the other fairies because he wasn’t ready for the Albion, Ban nearly lost his soul because he didn’t know what Melascula was capable of. Most, if not all, of these things could’ve been prevented or avoided had Meliodas told them. They would’ve been prepared and the TC would’ve been defeated a LOT quicker.

He not only endangered his friends but also those around him. His comrades, the Royal Family, Holy Knights, the citizens of Brittania, etc. He withheld LIVE SAVING information. The fact that nobody else like Bartra or Zaratras told the Sins about this or told Meliodas to tell them is also fucking stupid.

Honestly, King had a right to be angry and distrustful of Meliodas. I mean, he literally knows everything about the Demon Race and the Ten Commandments, but he never told them anything. Of course that would seem suspicious! They barely know anything about him, but they never questioned it. But now, with everything that’s happened, it’s hard not to.

From a writing standpoint, it was probably for plot reasons. But from an in-story standpoint? Yeah, that was stupid as hell.

I love Mel to death, I really REALLY do! But this was a VERY SMALL BRAIN move. Quite literally his dumbest move.

Gowther first sees the man from across the bookstore that’s been kind enough to give them a job, pausing in their work at reshelving the young adult section to gaze curiously at him. He has the look of someone who simultaneously knows what they’re doing and has no clue whatsoever--definitely familiar with literature, but like he’s looking for something for someone else. A gift, probably, they decide, resuming their organization of the Inkheart saga in an attempt to ignore the dull ache within them at the thought. Hope whoever he’s getting it for likes it, at least.

As Gowther finishes organizing the Inkheart saga and ready to move onto the next series of books, there is a crash--followed by a “Oh, shit!”-- in the next aisle. Sighing, Gowther turns to the next aisle, they see a girl with long, white hair, bangs covering one of her ice blue eyes. Her name is Elizabeth, she goes to school with them. 

Books are scattered all over the floor--they just organized those fifteen minutes ago--with one in her hand. Gowther doesn't have any clue how this happened, but starts cleaning it up. “Need any help, Elizabeth?” 

“Gowther, you’re such a helpful boy,” she says, while helping to pick them up. Gowther feels a slight pang in their chest. “The book we had to read over summer was wedged really tight into the bookshelf and I accidentally knocked over a bunch of books with it.”

Gowther can’t help but laugh at that. They organize the books in an instant, leaving Elizabeth with The 57 Bus, and take her to the cash register to pay for the book. Afterwards, they ring up the man they saw a while ago-- he is getting two books, both are part of Gowther’s favorites; Forgotten Fire and Six of Crows. “Both books must be a gift,” says Gowther, putting the two in a bag.��“I read those, and they’re very good.”

“Ah, thank you, young man.” The man smiles a bit, gripping the handles of the bag. Gowther feels a deeper pang in their chest, as if they just hit a brick wall. “One is for my son, and the other is for a class I’m teaching this year. I teach English and History.” 

“My two favorite subjects.” Gowther responds, then watches the man go. 

A few hours later, Gowther’s shift is over. They grab their things and start to walk home.

The next day, Gowther wakes up with the worst feeling in their stomach--a feeling of dread mixed with hunger. They go downstairs, get an apple, and head back to their room. 

The room is filled from floor to ceiling with books along one wall, all ranging from historical books to young adult novels. They stare for a little bit at one book, This Book is Gay. Their mother disapproved of them getting that book, but Gowther got it anyways. They want to come out to their mother as nonbinary, but are too afraid to. They know their mother would... Gowther doesn't even want to think about that. The dread in their stomach worsens.

In their closet, there lives a single skirt--it is a navy blue skirt that they found in the lost and found at school. Gowther has not worn it since they found it, but today they’d give it a try. They grab the fabric--it feels soft against their fingertips. As they slip into it, they feel almost at home in their own skin. 

Gowther never cared for pronouns, never cared how they expressed, but it’s hard being nonbinary in a household that doesn’t respect even gay people, and in a world where that term is new. They were surprised that their mother even allowed them to grow out and dye their hair pink. 

Looking in the mirror, they move the skirt to their liking, making sure it doesn’t show off too much, nor too little. It somehow fits them, and they like it. They start walking around their room like the girls do at school--swing their hips just slightly, legs not as far apart like what boys do. They feel full of bliss as they put their hair up into a little ponytail--or maybe a man bun? They do like that style better-- and actually smile, which they haven’t done in a very long time. The feeling of dread is gone, replaced with hope.

That is when their mother walks in.

They stare at each other, no words said. Gowther’s eyes widen just a little bit in shock, then the reality of the situation trickles into both people; Gowther is in a skirt, with their hair tied back, and looking fairly feminine. Their hope is replaced with full blown fear.

Gowther’s mother looks them up and down, face growing pale by the second. “Gowther, sweetheart, what are you doing?” she asks, though the look on her face tells Gowther that she already knows.

Gowther doesn’t know what to say. They try to find words, scrambling for them. “I, uh, am wearing a skirt--”

As soon as those words spill from their mouth, she slams the door open and briskly walks towards them, ripping off the skirt. Their mother tears it right in front of them, rips out the ponytail, and throws a pair of pants at them. “Get your fucking pants on. You are a boy.” 

As they do as they’re told, Gowther’s eyes drifts towards the window, not wanting to look at their mother in the face. For a brief moment, they think about what would happen if they were hanging from it. Their mother grabs their chin, forcing them to look at her in the eye. “Be a man! Look me in the eye!” Gowther shoves her hand away, but she catches their arm in a tightening grip. “Don’t shove me away. Fucking look at me when I talk to you!”

“Mom, let go of me,” Gowther tries wrenching their arm away, but it doesn't work. “It was nothing--I wasn't doing any--”

Smack!

Gowther’s glasses fly off their face as the shock runs through them. Their mother just slapped them. They reach down, looking for their glasses, and are relieved that they aren’t broken. Finally being able to see, they stand up and look at her in the eye. “Well, since the cat’s out of the bag,” Gowther says, trying not to cry. “I don’t want to identify as a boy or as a girl. Nonbinary.”

Their mother has tears running down her face. Why is she the one crying? She doesn’t deserve to. She didn’t just get smacked in the face for no reason, or yelled at, or have nail marks in their arm. Storming out of the room, she screams, “When can I have my son back!?” 

Gowther, knowing their mother would come back to yell at them, barricades the door. Sitting on their bed, they let out a sob. Their arm and face stung, the pain getting to them now. They can’t understand why they didn't fight back, why they didn’t do anything more than what they said. 

Bang! Bang! BANG!

Their mother is banging on the door, screaming at them, demanding to let her in. Gowther, disgusted, gets a bag and packs everything they need-- clothing, toothbrush and toothpaste, and cash. Opening their window, they look back at their bookshelf full of memories. Fuck it, they think. I’ll sneak in and get the books slowly and surely. 

Taking a chance before their mother unhinges the door, they grab two books and jump out the window.

Three days pass. Gowther’s unable to sneak in, to get their books, since their mother locked the window. Luckily, their mother hasn’t chucked them out just yet.

Gowther is lucky that they were able to tell their boss everything. Their boss doesn't understand the term nonbinary, but reassures Gowther that they wouldn’t hurt them in any way. Gowther lives in the bookstore now.

Missing posters with their face on it are everywhere. At their job (Gowther had to hide so that she wouldn’t find them), at the cafes, in the library, everywhere. Gowther seems to go unnoticed, though. They take away the posters whenever they see them, and no one has noticed. 

Again, Gowther is reshelving the history section of the bookstore when a boy with blonde hair and emerald eyes goes to them, a quizzical look on his face. Gowther, looks him up and down, and wonders why he is so tiny. He asks where the LGBT section is, and Gowther points them in the right direction, even recommending some. “I would recommend Simon vs. The Homosapien Agenda, along with its sequel, Leah On the Offbeat. Both books made me cry.”

The boy thanks him, and leaves towards the direction Gowther pointed him in. As they watch, they see a familiar man following, looking at other books as well. They go back to reshelving the books, and finish in no time. They walk back to the cash register, ready to ring up some people waiting in line. 

They ring up the boy from earlier along with the man, seeing the books that Gowther recommended in the boy’s hand, along with some more books from the young adult section. As the man is about to hand over the payment, a woman shoves in front of them and grabs Gowther’s chin, pulling them towards her. “You fucking worthless--Get back home, now.” 

Gowther’s eyes widen as worry fills their stomach and realization sinks in; their mother. Gowther tries to give an excuse, but their mother raises a hand, just slightly. Their boss tries to intervene, but is stopped by their mother. She threatens to sue the bookstore if he tries to stop her, and slaps Gowther again. They hold their glasses this time, and look up. 

She is pulled away from the cash register, by an unknown hand. The man from before gets in front of her, asking her to calm down. “I’ll sue you if you get in the way of me and my son!” she screams. 

“Ma’am, I’ll sue you right back and take that child’s custody,” the man threatens. “I’ve dealt with this before and I can deal with this again--”

“Fuck off!” Gowther’s mother says, and smacks the man’s arm. People stare at what’s going on, some concerned, some terrified. The boy with blonde hair has a phone in his hand, slowly inching towards Gowther, who has ducked under the register. 

“Hey, you,” he says. Gowther looks at him with relief. “My name’s Meliodas, Mel for short. That’s my dad, Escanor Ljon. We can get you out of that life at home, if you want.”

Gowther’s sliver of hope seems to grow. This boy seems nice, offering to help without even knowing them. Gowther nods, showing the marks on their arm from their mother. Mel takes in a shaky breath, and it’s clear he’s been through something like this before--getting hit, getting hurt by your parent, and offered help. He looks at his phone and dials a number. 

Police come by twenty minutes later.

While Escanor goes to court for Gowther’s custody (and the claim that he tried to assault their mother), they stay at Mel’s household. There’s a girl no older than them--Diane, they’ve learned-- who seems to know to lick her wounds until she came back with steel on her hands. Another boy--Ban-- who is taller than anyone, who has a knack for stealing things. A very nimble and small boy--King-- who’s words are as sharp as a knife. And lastly, Escanor’s wife, Merlin Ljon. She is smart and caring. They talk a little bit, just so that Merlin understands Gowther’s situation. 

“My mother was okay to me my entire life,” Gowther explains. “When I was a preteen, I sort of figured I didn’t belong into the gender binary. I kept it a secret from my mother until about a week ago, when she walked into my room while I was wearing a skirt.”

Merlin nods, her face showing that she already knows the outcome. Gowther comes out to her, explains more of what happened, and what Escanor did for them. Setting down some papers, she looks at them. 

“I need you to hear this,” she says. “You are still you, Gowther. You are still the same, nonbinary or not. The same person who has a loving family now, with siblings who will watch your back and depend on you. But you get to exhale now, Gowther. You get to be more you than you have been... in a very long time. You deserve everything you want.”

Gowther tears up at that, pulling in a shaky breath. Merlin goes over to them and kisses their forehead. 

“So, that means instead of a new brother, I get a genderless diety as my sibling?” asks a voice. Gowther turns their head, seeing Diane on the stairs. They nod just slightly. “Oh, thank God! I can finally get a break from all the shit they get into!”

Gowther smiles at that, and follows Diane up the stairs.

Gowther’s custody is shifted over to the Ljons’. They get their books back, and get a room that overlooks the backyard. They are content, dealing with their brothers and sister, and feel happy-- no misgendering, no rude comments. 

All is well.

What does the TC think about Diane when Meliodas first meet her? Especially Drole?

In Escanor's case, his power reminds them of Mael. I mean when Meliodas first sense his magic he thought it was Mael's despite knowing he is long dead.

Gloxinia didn't like this Ban when he heard he was the one who burned the fairy king's forest.

In Gowther's case, they were confused as Meliodas was. They didn't know this doll and demon Gowther so Zeldris fill them up. Although it was still confusing for the TC. Even if the demon Gowther was controlling him, the doll Gowther knows what has been going on when demon Gowther controls him.

Maybe he got cursed by his commandment?

Either way the TC could tell Mel was hurt when Gowther didn't remember him. The real Gowther and doll Gowther were really close to Mel. Gowther was the only person Mel ever trust and was comfortable with during his days, they were practically best friends.

They have mixed feelings toward the sins. But they do like them (they're all dumbasses. The real reason why they are so entertaining). They were nice to Mel which they were grateful for (probably because they don't know he is a demon).

The commandments knew the Sins were strong for their time, but they still had the potential to grow. Diane was no different in that regard. Other than that, they liked her, because she treated Meliodas with genuine kindness, due to her crush on him, even though Meliodas has made it clear several times that he doesn't reciprocate her feelings, but still cherishes her as a precious teammate.

Meliodas tried not to let it show how hurt he was when doll Gowther didn't recognize him and it fooled even Merlin, just barely, but the commandments could tell. Zeldris filled them in on most of the stuff regarding Gowther and doll Gowther, with some input from Melascula for how demon Gowther disappeared (she was there after all when he escaped from demon jail), but even he didn't know everything, so they added this to the list of things to ask Meliodas if or when they ever got out.

The commandments and the rest of the demon clan all think that the Sins are an absolute hoot and probably the best show they could've hoped for in the seal (especially after so many years of just boredom). Meliodas has earned their honest respect and it's nice to see them all together, but even if the Sins love and respect their captain, among the demon clan there's still this big weight hanging over them, which is the understanding that they probably wouldn't be so nice if they knew that their beloved captain was a demon. And not just any demon at that, but the eldest demon prince, strongest demon alive (not counting the demon king tho to be fair he isn't a demon) and heir to the throne.

Modern nnt Au headcanons I’ll be using in my upcoming fic:

Part 1

• The Bandits

- He lives with Zhivago, his adoptive dad. Zhivago’s oldest son is right now at university in Belgium.

- Ban’s biological parents are from Argentina (yay Latinos). He maintains the language as Zhivago is Latino too (Puerto-Rican).

-When Ban was young his parents abused of him and his little sister, after her passing away someone unknown called Cps on his parents and as they didn’t have any close relatives he entered the system when he was 10.

-Long story -short (I’ll explain in the fic) Zhivago ended up adopting him.

• The Demons

-Derieri is the cool cousin.

- Galand and Melascula are the cool uncles.

- Meliodas is short, just short. He just stopped growing at 14.

- Genetics run strong in the family and Zeldris didn’t grow as much as well. Btw he had an emo fase when he was 13-15, Meliodas jokes that that fase isn’t over cause he continues to dye his hair black (yes he is natural blonde). The truth reason behind this is that people mixed the brothers up a lot of times and Zeldris didn’t like that.

-They have that dynamic of troublemaker brother and responsible brother going on, you know which one is each. Mel is two years older than Zel.

- Big BIG family, Christmas is wild.

-Mel and Zel’s mom was German, they know German for that reason. He died in a car crash when they were very young.

(I have more but I’ll make a part 2 probably, so...)

• The Mages

- Gowther and Merlin have two cats (Meldor and Chaos)

- Merlin rides a motorcycle. I dunno the model yet, perhaps a Liberty but I wanted something more... More, you know? (The motorcycle is black btw).

-They live with Gowther’s single-father Gowther, who’s also Merlin’s uncle (Merlin is living with them cause his father is no longer in the picture and her mother passed away, Gowther sir decided to take care of her). Gowther’s mom passed away during childbirth, lots of trauma assured.

-Gowther sir’s father was Japanese, they talk in Japanese at home because he thinks it’s important to know more than one language and because it’s a part of his identity he wants to show his kids.

-And Yes, Gowther sir is cousin of Mel’s father by part of his mother.

• The Giants

-Diane is one of those kids who goes to a thousand extracular classes relating to dancing, corporal expression and sports (like gymnastics). Overall a very sportsy person.

-Matrona works as a gym trainer, she’s Diane’s oldest sister who has already finished a master in sports and health (Diane visits her at the gym).

-Dolores is Diane’s youngest sister, doesn’t like sports very much but likes playing the drums (Diane also plays the drums).

- They live with their (single) uncle Drole after their parents passed away years ago.

Ok I’m finishing this here, I’ll make the rest (Faeries, knights, Liones family, Escanor, Arthur, etc). If it goes as planned if I manage to finish the fic I want to make an extra for 4kota but we’ll see.

I love that they were trying to get Meliodas to abandon his emotions to keep his rage in check and then when he actually has no emotions we find out that he’s straight up evil and much, MUCH worse than before lol

the tears pooling on their insanely pointy chins always gets me lol. but also mel just violently sobbing and then suddenly being fine. Mans has serious issues with repression that can def be drawn to his daddy issues

BAN/ZHIVAGO ARC😭😭😭 a few observations: Ban is very clearly influenced by Zhivago’s style, like the clothes are so similar, the fact that they sent Ban to Aberdeen prison and his favorite is Aberdeen ale makes me think he associates it with his dad, Zhivago was hot, Ban mirrors Zhivago’s words to him to Elaine, Zhivago tells Ban to never trust humans and the only humans he ends up trusting are Escanor and Jericho, zhivago has lived in misery about the deaths of his children for almost 40 years :(

He savors it, using his prehensile darkness as hands. Claws are GREAT and all, but he kinda misses opposable thumbs.

Finally, once the bottle his finished, he sighs happily. "Demons don't drunk. But... I miss taste some times. Anyways. Why we here. Elizabeth, explain? Longer talks can be... difficult for me." He looks a little pained as he says it.

He knows by now that he has more rationality than almost any given Indura. He wonders if that is in part to how LONG he has lived, or if it is rather his divine heritage that allows him to retain even a shred of sanity. He also knows he is still just that. An Indura. He wonders if that's part of his curse, that he must remain in this half state, where communication is hard, he cannot possibly blend in, and peoples first instinct is to run away, to isolate him even further. Perhaps that's not it though. Perhaps he is still clinging onto the safety being able to let go of his mind would provide. Which is stupid, but... he doesn't know what would happen if his Ellie died again. And he doesn't want to find out.

She Nods and gives Escanor the rundown, before concluding with "So what do you say, will you help us?" He hums and looks at Meliodas. "You're a demon, you know better than any of us how bad this could be. Is it worth the potential damage I could cause?"

"And more. You not know destruction Holy War would cause. Catastrophic. A broken mountain or two nothing compared to broken Brittania."

"That's terrifying and a very good point." He looked a little pale, and Meliodas chortled. "Very well, I will join you!" He crooned happily this time. "Good. We leave soon possible?"

"Uh, yes! Just let me pack!"

He pulls a whole cart out of a storage chamber and starts to load it with food and water provisions, clothes, and burn creams. Then he looks at Ritta. "Uh... on second thought, we may not be able to go until morning. I can't lift it without the sun."

Meliodas huffed and paced back and forth in front of it, then sighed. He reared up onto his hind legs and wrapped his claws around it best he could, then HEFTED. He stumbled a little bit, but remained upright, wings flexed to balance. He hobbled over to the cart and put it in carefully, so it didn't and wouldn't crush anything else. "There. We go now?"

Escanor was staring at him. "Uh... yeah..."

"Great. Tally ho." Elizabeth clapped a hand over her mouth and he winked at her. Escanor tried to pull the cart, but only got about 50 feet before he was exhausted, so Meliodas nudged him and Elizabeth both onto the seat part of the cart, and settled in between the bars, using his darkness to attach a harness to it and start pulling. He grumbled about the things he does to make his pack happy, and he's not a damn pack mule, but here we are, until Elizabeth stroked his wing gently and thanked him for all the hard work he did for them. He preened a little and Escanor resisted a laugh.

To be young and in love indeed.

They found Gowther next and he agreed to help for reasons he didn't quite understand. The Demon in front of him was weirdly familiar and compelling with his pleading green eyes. He was behind Elizabeth as she explained and asked him to help, and Meliodas made his eyes all big and stuck out his bottom lip, which he recognized as a common begging face.

Du nuh nuh nuh! Gowther has joined your party!

He put all his books in the cart, but at least he was fairly happy to walk along with the strange demon creature with him. It made Meliodas a little nervous, but he knew he could take it in a fight quite easily if it came down to it. He just... might have stuck a bit closer to Elizabeth than usual. She certainly didn't mind. The thing set her nerves on edge too.

Then Ban came, which he was glad for. He was so excited to see him, he'd been one of the most receptive sins to his presence, and regularly tussled and played with him, much to the demons joy. So upon seeing him, he forgot to speak, and chattered and clicked excitedly at him instead, bouncing around and crooning and trilling. Ban was just as thrilled to see him and pulled the massive beastie into a hug. "Hiya Mel! I missed ya too! I see you've got company."

Meliodas purred and rubbed his cheek against his, before settling on the ground and trotting over to Elizabeth. He bumped her hand, then pushed her forward.

"Bonbon, remember Little Ellie, yes?"

"Ugh, Bonbon, I'll never live down that stupid nickname, I stole from that bakery ONCE, and I-" He paused and looked at him quizzically. "Sorry, you can TALK now?"

"I been improving, yes!"

"Fuck yeah, Captain! And yeah, I remember you." He gave her a shallow bow. "A pleasure, Princess. What's got you traveling with this lot?" She explains the situation to him and asks him to join and he shrugs. "Fuck it, yeah, why not. I ain't got nothing better to do."

(Side note, I realized I accidentally put Ban before King, and it's supposed to be reverse order, but Meh, whatever)

Happy Mermay!! I've been enjoying you and your anons’ siren au so much and am writing a little spin off based on it. I wanted to get your opinion on something. The au has Estarossa and Gowther and the sins, but what should I do with Nadja and Gelda?

For Nadja, I am tempted in several directions. One is a scenario where Mel and his pod ‘steal’ her from her maneater pod. Gowther would earn his “commandment of selflessness,” so to speak, by singlehandedly facing off against the managers until the rest of his family arrives (could not return that to “maneeaters” after the autocorrect, that's too funny to me). Mel taught him well and is so proud, and exhausted from the anxiety. During this altercation, the maneaters go to gouge out his eyes but fail, leaning him with scars that mimic the shape of his glasses in the original manga. I'm not too familiar with the manager lore but I think that upbringing will be an interesting element to put with Nadja’s personality (though understanding that will take some more research. I feel like I barely know the gal).

The second idea I have is to make her a voyager who knows she was born in the sea but can't bear to see foot on land or in the sea. She travels all along the coastline as the top advisor/navigator of a ship, but due to her constant refusal to acknowledge she is half (?) magical creature and all that comes with it, weakens until her crew has no choice but to seek out a magical creature who could help her save her own life somehow. Third is a classic mermaid x human scenario, with Gowther meeting Nadja at the same place as the Original Gowther met Glariza, a massive library off a coastal city. In this scenario he would be accompanying Estarossa on his crazy personal quest to get Meliodas some help with his mental state. Long story short Mael and Esta end up trying to get their two brothers to learn something from each other. This little adventure might be in the prologue to the spin-off. I've written a bit of it, with how Estarossa meets Mael. In this event, Mael would basically uses himself as leverage, jumping in the water to play with Zeldris. Ludociel feels he has to be civil with Mel now or risk his baby brother being drowned by Mel’s brothers. I made Mael chaotic, felt that Ludo deserved that mental stress in this au lmao.

As for Gelda, I am considering making her a runaway princess. I can see her having the time of her life as part of their pod, crushing on Elizabeth and Zeldris and Arthur, having a lot of peaceful yet exciting days where she's making her own way in the world and relishing in having people by her side as she does so. I adore so many of your fics with Arthur, Zel, and Gelda that I'm going to have to pair the three together here too.They're all such wholesome sweethearts and I love their potential dynamic. These mer are going to do a LOT of falling in love <3 and snuggling. I think they would cuddle pile for comfort

Also beginning to think that me making this spinoff is just giving the sirens as many wacky friends as possible. They are all kids and should not be unsupervised running / swimming around an island like this.

Ban and Arthur and Merlin are going to have SUCH a fun time convincing them that no, they are not “just chilling over here,” half-starved and battered from storms and constant shenanigans with sea life and island life is not actually better than “a proper life on land,” whatever you called “a proper life” before was clearly bs. Please give this a chance. And Elizabeth you KNOW sirens are supposed to live in groups with many adult caretakers stop arguing on this point- you can’t girlboss your way out of not having resources. What do you mean you’ve done it before. yes Mael I know you raised some chickens, I can see them now, honestly the fact you somehow take care of 30+ animals on this island is more concerning than you NOT getting creative, and why are they stare- is that a 4 foot tall pig

Hi there! Happy Mermay to you as well! First off let me start off by saying thank you so much for rekindling the flame of my Siren AU! It's so amazing to see other users be motivated by the chaos that the anons and I have created a few years ago. I'm so glad you're enjoying reading it.

I love the idea of Nadja as a voyager. I definitely see her as someone, in this AU anyway, who wants to travel and be out adventuring. Never staying in one place for too long. After all, in the original meeting, she was underneath Liones was she not and found Gowther. So kind of drawing a very loose parallel to the idea that she's an adventurer.

I also am in love with the idea of Gelda being a runaway princess! Maybe her life was drab and dark in the castle she lived in and wanted an escape from it all? Causing her to run away from it and seek out a better life for herself. Cue her running into Arthur and Zeldris and letting them show her a new life that she never even hoped to see in her lifetime. And you know that those three would be the cuddliest couple ever and would definitely cuddle pile for comfort.

Thank you again for sharing this wonderful spinoff with me! I'm eager to see the final product!
