FAVE CREATORS ART CHALLENGE
The premise is simple. Just think of your fave creators on this site and write a post listing some of your fave creations that were made by them. Tell them why you like it, if the coloring is pretty, if the blending is top notch, if it inspired you or just gush about the characters... And don't forget to tag them so they can see it.
Radskier Kiss by @misterkarchie
What goes through my mind when I see this art is "Since the invention of the kiss, there have been five kisses that were rated the most passionate, the most pure. This one left them all behind." Enough said, I think. Actually, no. I really like that it's b&w -some pieces look better like that than in color, imo. Love the pose and the hand-holding, and how soft the hair looks!!! The lil' tear in Radovid's eye GOT ME. This looks so romantic and sweet I want to look at it forever.
Rhaenicent Appreciation Week Day 2 by @maxanor
Oh, you feel the show's relationship between Alicent and Rhaenyra wasn't heartbreaking enough? Gifmakers got you covered! In all seriousness, the blue&gold compliment each other so well here. The blending is fantastic (special shout-out to the first gif with its mirroring tree scenes). The quote is as melancholic as these two, and the waterdrop effect... and the fact that it's used to transition from present to past… and how it makes it feel like tears falling on it because of the nostalgia of their happy memories??? Wow.
16 Years Of Merlin by @ughmerlin
I absolutely dig the VHS edits I've seen around this year, and this one is fantastic. Love that each season is color-coded and how each gets a few iconic scenes (and it can't have been easy to pick!). The blending is amazing, and the little circles with a choice quote are a cute touch. BBC Merlin was the very reason I joined tumblr, I can't believe it's been that long since it aired, and I can't believe that not only the fandom is still active but also making such cool pieces. I don't recall if I was still using VHS by the time I watched it, but this makes me feel like I can just pop it in and relive my first tumblr hyperfixation.
Family Tree Of House Nymeros Martell Of Sunspear by @ivashkovadrian
I've never been in a book fandom so dedicated to facecanons, and they're super fun! This one must have been A LOT of work. So many different characters from different pieces of media being brought together to represent characters that are unseen on screen, plus all the planning and organization to make everything fit and look good. Love the backgrounds, with a texture that reminds me of old parchment -special mention to the first gif with the gorgeous sea shot, and the second where the army appears to be riding into the unknown sandy void of the desert. And lastly I love to see fictional family trees, it kind of scratches an itch in my brain.
The Borgias Costume Appreciation 56 by @lady-arryn
As a costume-obsessed viewer, I have reblogged my fair share of costume edits on tumblr, and I can say with certainty lady-arryn's are the best. Eliza manages to gif crisp even the little details of the clothing and does gorgeous collections of outfits in different media. Although an incredible gifmaker overall who also has fantastic concepts, blending, fonts and coloring in other types of edits, I think making these costume edits is deceptively difficult! I could've pulled up any example, but I chose this one because this dress is one of my favorites. Along with that gauzy, dreamy sharpening, the coloring makes the red POP in a beautiful way. I once kept this gifset open on my browser for like an hour while doing other things simply because I wanted to keep looking at it.
Radskier + And If He Sinks To Darkest Night by @naumaxia-art
Kit is one of the visual artists who has been keeping this fandom watered throughout the drought, and I am very thankful for it. I love the layout of this piece in particular, which calls to mind the kings of a deck of cards. The cloudy orange to dark works wonders as a background that's pretty but doesn't steal attention away from the main event. LOVE the details (the tiny buttercup on Radovid's hand! The signet ring on Jaskier's! How soft and flowy the hair looks in the breeze!). And how they're together but back to back, separated but thinking about each other. The star-crossed lovers of it all......... Yeah.
Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs + flowers by @endiness
Kai's colorings are always incredible, animation or live-action, it does not matter. I LOVE the sheer vibrance of them, taking me right back to the time in tumblr where this kind of extremely colorful gifs were everywhere. I struggled to pick one, but Snow White was my favorite movie as a child, and I love to see people giffing it, especially so beautifully. Plus, my grandmother watched this film in theaters and she absolutely loved it and was mesmerized by its color (I mean, it was 1937!). I wish I could show her the even more intense coloring of this gorgeous gifset of a simple lovely scene.
Kanthony + The Seven Stages Of Falling In Love by @crowley-anthony
There are many fandoms that have incredible talent (many of which are on this list), and Bridgerton is absolutely one of them. From the winning combo of blue&pink coloring (I am still amazed that people can just change a scene's coloring so dramatically and still make it look great), to the tiny quotes at the top of bottom that remind me of a movie poster, to the flawless blending, to the subject (who else is doing it like them, they're unhinged) to the level of detail (I did not notice the novel-esque writing background in the rings LITERALLY until i was writing this!!), this is an amazing example of that talent.
The Hunger Games Appreciation Week Day 01 by @nataliescatorccio
The best thing about finally watching this film for me was finally being able to unblock the tags and finally reblog all the beautiful edits people made of it. And this is the perfect example because!!! this!!! coloring!!! Becca's colorings being incredibly gorgeous is not new (her tutorials have really helped me this past year), but this set I feel is one of her best. I love an orange&teal combo, it's a trope for a reason (oxidized copper is such a beautiful color palette, a wise tumblrina once said). The blending is so good as usual. Putting this pairing with the Wuthering Heights quote is nothing short of brilliant, it fits scarily well. And the ombré in the font...
The Witcher: Wild Hunt Intro Monologue by @seance
As someone who this past year enjoyed The Witcher show, books and game, I love to see edits mixing and matching them, especially considering the frequent negativity one sees when it comes to this franchise. Pairing the truly epic monologue that begins the videogame with scenes from the Netflix show, this eerie edit blew me away with its incredible blending and striking coloring (and managing to make all these different scenes look well together in such intense yellow/blue can't have been easy). It managed to get me pumped for both the show and the game!

Content Rating: Teen and Up.
Summary:
Charming had himself caught up in a pretty little lie, telling his parents he had a date for his birthday ball. Desperate to stop their meddling in his love life, he came up with a plan: show up with someone who’d make the court gasp—a notorious pirate at school, James Hook. It was supposed to be a quick fix: fake a romance, cause a stir, and be free from the royal matchmakers forever. But the more time Charming spent with Hook—as a person, the sharp banter—the more complicated things got. This wasn’t just about pretending anymore. He was starting to get hooked. Or The enemies to fake dating to lovers between Hook and Charming no one asked for.
Notes:
Can y'all applaud me. Yes I updated on Tumblr on time what a mircale!!! I do appreciate all of y'all who read on this platform. This is honestly a passion project I do to escape reality for a minute or two.
Had to update y'all at least one more time before the holidays. This chapter was very out of my comfort zone writing I don't do much drama I'm more a romance fluff writer. So here is some drama that I've been setting up since the very beginning. This is the family breakfast (brunch) and the day of the actual ball. Don't worry cute stuff happens before I hurt y'all.
A few housekeeping reminders: - This fic has multiple POVs for Charming focused parts 👑 emojis are used on the other hook if it's James it's this emoji 🪝. - It wouldn't be a GayashellJATP fic without a playlist of songs I have on that help immerse you,
Chapter 6: Pre-Ball Discord
👑
Charming felt the breeze rush past him as he watched Hook effortlessly skate down the castle’s steps. For once, Hook was trying out the skater-boy style.
A tight black shirt that clung to his chest in ways that should’ve been illegal, paired with some very shredded, loose jeans that only emphasized his already toned legs. He looked almost too good to be true.
The skateboard seemed to float like water beneath him, the wheels barely made sound on the pristine marble.
Hook glanced back over his shoulder. The sunlight caught his hook and the chain around his neck. His dark windswept hair was tousled just enough to look careless but perfect. He flipped it with a casual toss of his head like it was a weapon and he knew how to use it, “Keep up, Princey.”
The way he said it was enough to light a fire in Charming’s chest. It made him want to scream. Or tackle him. Maybe both.
“I could skate circles around you, I was just going easy on you,” Charming shouted, picking up his pace.
“Oh, easy ?”
Charming groaned, half from frustration at how insufferably smug Hook looked, and half because, damn it, he was ridiculously hot. Suddenly, the skateboards were gone, leaving them standing toe-to-toe in the castle courtyard. Hook was now all up in his face, his smirk replaced by something darker yet soft.
He reached out, grabbing Charming by the front of his shirt. His fingers curled just enough to pull the prince closer, the warmth of his hand radiating through the fabric. And the coldness of his Hook sent shivers down his neck.
The pirate leaned in, his breath brushing against Charming’s ear as he whispered something that made his ears burn, words he couldn’t quite make out but that left his stomach flipping in ways it definitely shouldn’t have. But before he could respond—
“Sir, you should wake up.”
The sharp voice of Lionel cut through and reality had set back in. Charming’s eyes flew open, waking up rudely dragged him away from the borderline wet dream he was enjoying.
He blinked, disoriented, only to realize he was still half-asleep and clinging to Hook like a lifeboat. His arm was wrapped snugly around the pirate’s waist, his hand resting on the flat plane of Hook’s stomach.
For one fleeting, awful moment, he considered leaving his arm there. Just a little longer. But no—no, that would be wrong. Was Hook uncomfortable with this? Did he do this all night? Fuck Is this weird? Of course, it’s weird. Did I just fucking curse in my head? He quickly shifted his arms away, careful not to wake the brunette.
“Morning Lioenel,” Charming croaked in his deep morning voice.
“Happy birthday, Christopher. I see you’ve gotten quite comfortable with your… friend there.”
“It was because of the magic string.”
“Ah, yes, the cupcake magic. Then why are you wearing that very specific shirt you made during Spell and Stitch class,” Lionel noted, his tone practically dripping with insinuation. “A curious choice for sleepwear.”
He looked down at the old, glorified rag of a shirt. He knew damn well it would be too tight and the fabric too flimsy for his build now, and he’d secretly hoped Hook might… notice. Damn, Lionel for being right.
“Don’t read into it,” Charming muttered, pushing past Lionel and towards his morning routine.
“Perish the thought, sir,” Lionel said, deadpan. “Though I must say, it does seem very convenient.”
Charming scowled as he put his running shoes on. “My only concern right now is trying not to lose my mind, at family breakfast.”
After his princely routine a grueling jog, some obligatory bench presses, and Lionel droning on about greeting cards from neighboring kingdoms.
The Prince found himself distracted. Every now and then, his thoughts wandered back to the pirate still sprawled out in his bed. He doubted Hook even knew how peaceful he looked when he wasn’t sneering or smirking or being Hook .
“Should I wake him up, sir?” Lionel asked, breaking into Charming’s reverie.
Charming hesitated, glancing back toward the bed. Hook was still there, one hand loosely gripping the sheets, his hair a complete mess. He looks cuddly, which was a word he never thought he’d associate with him.
“Nah,” Charming said finally, his voice quieter than before. “Let him sleep in for a little more. He looks like he needs it.”
“Ah,” Lionel said, the picture of mock solemnity. “You probably tired him out. Cuddling him all night. How was being the big spoon?”
Charming nearly choked. “Nope, I’m not doing this.” He said as he grabbed his towel and escaped to the bathroom.
“I’ll see you at the palace, Sir,” Lionel said before heading out. “One last thing, don’t be late,”
Charming just glanced at the bathroom mirror, his chest tightening for reasons he didn’t want to name. “Happy birthday to me,” he muttered under his breath, dragging a hand through his hair.
Charming then started his shower musical. He’d been belting out tunes with abandon, knowing full well this was his last chance at solitude before his obligations descended like a royal army.
By the time he emerged, a towel slung loosely around his hips, the steam swirling out behind him, he felt rejuvenated until he noticed the sun had risen and so had Hook, looking unusually alert.
Hook’s piercing eyes were fixed on him, though they lacked the typical dark smudges of eyeliner that usually made his glare extra sharp. Instead, he looked softer, more human, which was almost unsettling.
“Guess who finally woke up?” The dark haired teen asked, leaning casually against the doorframe, pretending his heart wasn’t pounding.
“Only because of your bloody singing,” Hook replied, his voice dry but laced with amusement. “You’ve got pipes, though. Bet you had singing lessons growing up.”
Charming ran a hand through his damp hair. “I did. Mandatory, not by choice.”
“Figures,” Hook said, inspecting his nails as if he wasn’t already planning his next jab. “Though you were a bit pitchy in the chorus. Add that to your ever-growing list of mistakes, right up there with your bear-hugging—”
Charming groaned, pushing off the doorframe. “I didn’t mean to do that. I swear—”
“Doesn’t matter,” Hook cut in with a gleam in his eye. “I mean, I get it. I am properly fit, but you don’t need to make excuses to get your hands all over me.”
“Oh, for the love of—”
“Speaking of fit,” Hook cut him off, his gaze dropping just enough to make the prince self-conscious, “You’re quite the show off this morning. Did you workout?”
It took a second too long to realize what Hook was talking about. When it hit, his face turned beet red as he registered his current state of undress—nothing but a towel clinging dangerously low on his hips. He crossed his arms over his chest instinctively, trying to appear unaffected, but the heat crawling up his neck betrayed him.
Hook, predictably, looked delighted. “Don’t cover up on my account,” he teased, his grin wicked. “This is quality entertainment.”
“Can you not?”
“Come on, Princey. Don’t act like you’re shy. You’re the one who can’t keep your eyes off me half of the time.”
“Is that what you tell yourself to sleep at night?”
“Nah,” Hook said with a wink. “I don’t need to. Knowing you’re think of me is enough.”
“We’re still meeting your folks, right?” Hook finally asked.
Charming nodded, grateful for the change in topic.
Hook finally got up, stretching leisurely as if the world itself moved at his pace. “Yeah, yeah. I’ll get ready at my place.” He glanced down at his empty wrist before fastening his hook on with practiced ease. “Pick me up.”
Then Hook bolted straight for the door.
“Wait,” Charming blurted, reaching for Hook’s hand before he realized he didn’t actually have anything to say.
“Make it quick, Princey. We don’t have all day,” Charming’s mouth opened, but his mind had gone blank. Hook’s gaze was too much. Too sharp yet somehow too warm, like he could see straight through him. It was the kind of look that they write songs about.
“Maybe…” Charming finally managed, his voice quieter now, “Maybe try buttoning up all your buttons this time. I’m not trying to change your style, but, you know…”
Hook tilted his head, smirking as he let the words hang. “Oh, you don’t like it when I do all of that? Should I take more clothes off then maybe that’d make you happier?”
“Just…Try for me. For my sake and my parents”
Hook leaned in slightly, just enough to close the space between them. “Only if you promise to keep the towel.”
“James!”
As the door closed behind him, Charming knew this was only the beginning. He made a mental note to keep a spare shirt nearby next time—just in case.
👑
The hallways were a blur of "Happy Birthday!" and enthusiastic waves, but Charming hardly acknowledged them as he skated past, focused on his destination.
He was already bracing himself for whatever mood Hook might be in, but when he arrived at the pirate’s door, he was caught off guard.
For once, Hook was punctual. Not only that, but he looked… different.
Gone were the flowy pirate blouses and loose button-ups that Charming had grown accustomed to. Instead, Hook wore a tailored white shirt that clung to his frame in all the right ways, tucked neatly into navy denim jeans that looked suspiciously new.
Charming hadn’t even realized Hook owned jeans; he'd always assumed the pirate was permanently ingrained in his dramatic, swashbuckling wardrobe. But no, Hook had denim. And it looked nice.
To top it off, Hook was wearing Charming’s varsity jacket.
The royal crest never looked so good. On Hook, It looked both completely out of place and yet ridiculously good at the same time.
When Hook spotted Charming skating toward him, those dark, kohl-rimmed eyes glinted with mischief. The look said more than words ever could: Caught you staring, Princey.
“You clean up pretty nice,” Charming managed, his voice a little tighter than he intended.
“And you wear the same outfit,” Hook shot back, his tone teasing. “I think I’ve seen a paper with you wearing that exact getup from head to toe.”
Charming winced slightly, glancing down at his brown barong shirt and black cargo pants. On second thought, maybe he should’ve worn something different for today. Something that didn’t feel so… predictable.
“You read the papers? The Asian prince asked, almost gasping. He straightened up and raised an eyebrow. “More importantly, what have you read about me?”
Hook didn’t bother replying, just gave him a look that practically screamed, Do you really want me to answer that?
Before Charming could press further, Hook shifted, plucking at the varsity jacket as though suddenly remembering he had it on. “Oh, and I thought I’d return this,” Hook said nonchalantly, starting to shrug out of the jacket. “I even got Morgs to do a quick laundry spell on it, so no need to complain—”
“No,” Charming interrupted quickly, stepping forward and stopping him mid-motion. “Keep it on.”
Hook paused, blinking in surprise. His eyebrows raised slightly, and for a brief moment, he almost looked unsure of himself. “If you say so,” He said lightly, settling the jacket back over his shoulders.
“It looks nice on you,” The Prince added, quieter this time, his gaze lingering a second too long before snapping back to the hallway.
“Let’s go,” Charming said, clearing his throat and rolling his board onto the ground.
Normally, he’d let the pirate trail behind him something about making sure Hook understood who was leading but this time, he slowed his pace.
As Charming skated leisurely down the path, Hook walked alongside him, the rhythm of his steps keeping time with the quiet hum of the wheels. Neither of them said much, but the silence felt strangely comfortable.
🪝
The castle was a smug fucking thing, wasn’t it? All glinting spires and pristine stonework, like it had never seen a speck of dirt in its entire existence.
It made Hook itch. He swore he could feel the walls silently judging him as they arrived at the feet of the stairs.
This was not his world, and every fiber of his being was telling him to turn around before it was too late.
But then there was Charming, skating along like he had no cares in the world, the ridiculous good boy turned bad image fully intact. Well, it's time to tarnish that image a little.
“You ready?” Charming asked, hopping off his board with a practiced ease that Hook found entirely too irritating.
Hook tilted his head, trying for nonchalance. “And what about it? You nervous ‘bout lying to your parents?” His words dripped with his usual sarcasm, though his accent made “bout” sound more like a soft jab than a sneer.
“Is it bad if I say I’m actually nervous?”
“And here I thought you’d be an expert at it. I heard you were in a rebel without a cause stage, so I assumed you had lying in the bag.”
“Just teenage rebellion tendencies,”
“Well, you’ve got nothing to be nervous about,” Hook said before taking a pause. “Your butler already thinks we’re damn near engaged. Playing a fiddle is as easy as your parents.”
“That doesn’t sound right,” Charming muttered, his voice breaking with a wave of nerves. Hook just responded with a shrug,
When they finally made it to the fucking top of the stairs. Hook looked at Charming with an unsure look, as a knot was starting to form in his chest.
The grand entrance loomed ahead, its gilded doors polished. As the guards pushed the massive doors open, a wave of noise hit him.
Charming’s home, his very busy, very lavish home was alive. Maids whisked by with trays of what looked like champagne glasses (at this hour?), a butler directed a pair of footmen carrying an elaborate floral arrangement, and somewhere in the distance, the faint hum of a string quartet drifted through the air.
Charming greeted the staff with a practiced smile and steady politeness, his voice warm and cordial in that maddeningly princely way. Hook could almost see the mask sliding into place.
“So, this is where you grew up. Bit much, don’t you think?”
Charming glanced at him, distracted, but managed a half-hearted smile. “It’s home.”
“Home,” Hook repeated dryly, his gaze skimming over the chandeliers, the intricate crown moldings, and the floors that gleamed like they’d never known a speck of dust. “You’ve got a very different definition of the word.”
Charming, however, didn’t retort. Not even his usual speeches. Just plain silence. The life got sucked out of him, replaced with a stiffness Hook wasn’t used to seeing. It was… unsettling.
“What’s the matter? When did you learn to shut up?”
“Nothing is—” Charming stopped, shaking his head. “I’m fine.”
“You’re not,” Hook pressed. “If you were, you’d be a confident schmuck. But you’re not, and it’s throwing me off.”
Charming sighed, running a hand through his hair. “It’s just…my parents. They’ll have questions. They are a lot. And you’re…” He gestured vaguely at Hook, his cheeks flushing.
“I’m what?” Hook asked, narrowing his eyes. “Not a princess? A pirate? A little bit too dramatic?”
“I didn’t say anything.” Charming’s voice was tired. “It’s just… They’re not going to understand this. Us.”
“There is no us,” Hook reminded, his voice sharp but quieter than he intended. He glanced over his shoulder at the line of gawking staff before leaning in closer. “You wanted a fake date, and you got one. So pull yourself together, Your Highness, and stop bloody looking at me like you don’t want to be here.”
Charming didn’t respond, his jaw tightening as they approached another set of doors.
Then a familiar figure stepped into their path: Lionel, the ever-watchful butler-slash-life coach-slash-unpaid babysitter of Prince Charming. His posture was immaculate, his expression a perfect blend of disapproval and exhaustion.
“Ah, Your Highness,” Lionel said smoothly, his gaze flicking between the two teens with just a hint of amusement. “How kind of you to finally grace us with your presence. Shall I tell the Queen you’ll join her for brunch after all?”
“Good to see you too, Lionel,” Hook drawled, his smirk too apparent.
“You might want to wipe that grin off your face, Mr. James Hook. Did you forget to prep him on manners?”
Charming shifted beside him, his shoulders visibly tensing. “Are you alright, Your Highness?”
“I’m fine,” The Prince replied quickly, too quickly.
“Look,” The pirate lowered his tone. “Let’s just get this over with. Sit, smile, nod. Do whatever it is you do at these things, and we’ll be out of here in no time.”
Lionel cleared his throat. “That might work for you, Mr. Hook, but His Highness doesn’t have the luxury of disappearing when things get uncomfortable. And he has a schedule to follow.”
“Cheers for the pep talk,” Hook muttered, rolling his eyes.
But Lionel wasn’t done. He turned to Charming. “Christopher, whatever’s bothering you, we’ll talk about it after breakfast. Just go in there and be you.”
Charming nodded, but the tension in his jaw didn’t ease. He glanced at Hook, his expression unreadable.
“Can you give us a minute Lionel?” Hook asked rather politely.
Lionel entered the dining hall not questioning anything. Hook on the other hand (hook) had a plan. He stepped close to Charming and pressed the golden metal on his hand against his cheek.
The prince froze, stared wide-eyed, and for a second, Hook wondered if he’d gone too far. But there was no turning back now.
“Get your act together, we can do this,” Hook whispered, his voice too soft for his liking. “You can squeeze my hand if you need me to come save you.”
Where the hell had that come from? The old him would have gagged at the idea of Charming touching him, let alone willingly offering himself up for emotional support.
But here he was, pitying the guy or at least that’s what he told himself. Definitely not because he was getting used to those big brown stupidly honest eyes or the way Charming looked at him like he wasn’t a total piece of ship.
Charming blinked, nodding stiffly as if he couldn’t believe what Hook had just said either. “Thanks,” he whispered, his voice nearly inaudible.
Hook stepped back, yanking his hand down before it betrayed him again. “Don’t mention it,” he muttered, turning back to the door. “Let’s just get this over with.”
The dining hall was nothing short of obnoxiously, unnecessarily big. Who needed ceilings that high? Or light fixtures the size of boats? Hook barely stopped himself from gawking at the sheer excess of it all, his eyes narrowing at the four plates laid out: two for them and two for Charming’s parents. Thankfully, the royal couple wasn’t here yet. Thank the sea gods for small mercies.
Once the two were seated, Hook couldn’t help but notice the Prince next to him had all the life sucked out of him. Charming looked pale and was one lost breath away from falling apart.
Hook blinked. Was he trembling? This wasn’t supposed to happen—if anyone should’ve been shitting themselves right now, it was Hook.
“Hey, My Knight in Shining Armour, I thought my little pep talk worked” Hook muttered under his breath, stepping closer.
Before he could say anything else, Charming grabbed his hand, fingers ice-cold and gripping far too tightly. Bloody hell. Hook glanced around, as though someone might burst in and see this very unprincely display of nerves. No one yet.
Hook sighed, squeezing Charming’s hand back, though his voice kept its edge. “You already squeezing my hand your parents aren't even here. Way to use this feature way too early.”
Charming shot him a glare that screamed not helping. Hook bit back a smirk.
There was one way to fix this. Time to put these genetics to good use. Hook took a purposeful scooched closer, so much so that Charming startled and blinked up at him.
Hook tilted his head down and then looked up through his lashes, making sure his hair fell in just the right tousled way to frame his face. The piercing gaze he hit Charming with could’ve stopped time and space.
He’d perfected this look in countless flirtationships, on countless nights in the mirror, but this was the first time it was actually for a prince.
Charming stilled. Completely. His hand went slack in Hook’s.
Hook smirked, satisfaction curling in his chest. “There there. Calm as a dead fish.”
Charming didn’t say anything for a moment, just stared back at Hook like he’d forgotten how to breathe. “I hate you,” he mumbled finally, though there wasn’t a shred of bite in his voice.
Hook grinned, releasing his hand with a flourish. “You’re welcome, Princey.”
They barely had time to share another word before the loud, booming voice of Lionel cut through the moment.
“ Their Majesties, King Maximilian and Queen Constantina! ”
Hook startled, snapping his head toward the doors just as they swung open. And there they were. The king strode in first, while the queen glided in behind him.
The Queen’s gaze immediately landed on Hook.
She gasped, clutching her pearls—literally. Hook resisted the urge to walk out. He’d been on the receiving end of many reactions in his life like horror, anger, and misplaced lust but this one? This was a uppity in a new level.
Hook forced himself to stand straighter, every muscle in his body tensed. It took every bit of restraint not tug on the jacket.
“Happy birthday, my precious Prince Christopher Rupert Windermere Vladimir Carl Alexander François Reginald Lancelot Herman Gregory James,” Queen Constantina said in one impossibly long breath.
Hook bit his tongue to stop the smirk that tugged at his lips. Someone was more dramatic than him, and it hurt.
“Good to see you too, Mom,” Charming muttered, clearly trying not to look too mortified.
Queen Constantina’s sharp eyes flicked back to Hook like she was zeroing in on prey. “And might you introduce this lovely individual sitting next to you?”
Hook coughed, already regretting agreeing to all this bullshit.
Charming plastered on the fakest smile Hook had ever seen on him all day. “This lovely individual is my partner, the one I was talking about. I'm bringing him to the ball” Charming rambled. “James Hook. Of Neverland. I think. And these are my parents.”
Hook shot him a what the hell look but nodded smoothly, “Lovely to meet you both,” he said, his accent extra posh.
He stood up, offering his hand for a shake, despite the laughable distance between him and the royals.
Queen Constantina stared at his hand like he’d just offered her a live snake. Hook tried not to let his confidence crack, though he swore his smirk was starting to feel brittle.
King Maximilian, at least, gave him a polite nod, though his lips were twitching like he was trying to hold back a laugh.
The Queen didn’t sit immediately. Oh no. She glided down the table until she stood entirely too close to the pirate. Guess she and her son we’re experts at invading personal space.
“James Hook,” She said, the syllables of his name pronounced like an uncurerable disease. “Such an... interesting choice for company, Christopher. How come I’ve never heard of him before.”
Hook arched a brow, but Charming cut in swiftly, his voice tense. “I wanted to keep things private. Mom, please step back, you’re too close to him.”
Queen Constantina didn’t budge, her sharp gaze still roaming Hook like she was deciding whether to take him out back and hose him off. Instead, her eyes snagged on the royal varsity jacket draped over Hook’s shoulders.
“Oh, I’m just admiring the jacket. It looks so nice on him.” Her tone was saccharine, but Hook didn’t miss the undercurrent—like she couldn’t decide whether the jacket belonged on him or in a donation bin.
Hook cleared his throat, resisting the urge to tug at the lapel. Right, he thought bitterly. Wearing Princey’s clothes. Did not help win brownie points.
“Thanks, Mom,” Charming said a little too quickly. “I let him borrow it because he looked so good in it.”
Hook glanced sideways at Charming, just in time to see him flash an unconvincing grin. Hook rolled his eyes. Smooth fabricated retelling of a story that never happened .
“Honey, maybe step away from the boy,” King Maximilian added lightly, though his voice carried a hint of wariness, like he was trying to keep his wife from poking the bear too hard.
But before more could be said, attention quickly diverted to the table as servants swooped in to lay out the food.
Or well—attempted food.
Hook stared at the absurd portions placed before them. A single baby pancake perched at the center of Charming’s plate, flanked by eggs that looked like someone had taken a quarter of a quarter and called it a serving.
Hook’s own plate held what appeared to be a microscopic sliver of toast and some “fruit”—and by fruit, he meant a single grape cut in half.
Oh. It all made sense now: Charming’s borderline torturous morning workout routines at the academy, all the extracurricular physical activities.
Hook had always wondered if the boy was just some over-enthusiastic fitness freak, but no. Apparently, the Prince was on a diet .
“That explains why you eat like a bloody horse back at the academy,” Hook muttered with an amused smirk, spearing his miserable excuse for a piece of egg.
Charming snorted quietly into his glass of water.
Before Charming could reply, King Maximilian cleared his throat, his voice deep but easygoing. “So, Junior, how’s your day going so far?”
Charming perked up like someone had flipped a switch. “Going pretty amazing, ” he said brightly, though he squeezed Hook’s hand under the table like a lifeline. “I can’t tell you why, though.”
Hook shot him a look that said What’s that supposed to mean? Charming just grinned mysteriously.
The King chuckled, clearly entertained by the whole thing. “Oh? Keeping secrets already?”
Before Charming could answer, Queen Constantina took the conversational reins, her smile sugar-coated but still unnervingly sharp. “ I’m so curious—tell me, how did you two meet?”
The pirate teen stiffened. Charming’s hand snuck under the table, finding Hook’s in a silent plea for help. Hook barely refrained from rolling his eyes. Of course he had to answer.
He hadn’t exactly been focused when Charming droned on about their fabricated backstory yesterday, but he’d caught enough to make shit up.
“We’re schoolmates, Your Majesty,” Hook said smoothly, slipping into his most pleasing tone.
“Your son’s quite the heartthrob, you know. Couldn’t go anywhere without people swooning over him.” He shot Charming a sly grin before continuing. “He fell for me—quite literally—when he was skateboarding. Crashed right into me, knocked us both flat. You could say he fell for me at first sight.”
King Maximilian barked out a laugh. “Accident-prone? Sounds like my boy.”
Queen Constantina’s smile stayed plastered in place, though her expression remained unreadable. “ Quite the story,” she replied, her voice a shade too light to be genuine. But she wasn’t done
“Forgive me if this is personal, James, but I must ask. How did you come to… acquire that?” She gestured vaguely at the hook. “Your hand, I mean.”
He’d been through this song and dance plenty of times before—curiosity wrapped in condescension, pity disguised as politeness. But it was the way she said it like it was a nuisance that hurt.
“A croc took it,” Hook replied casually, though his tone was clipped. “Big bastard. I survived, though, so I’d say I got the better end of the deal. It matches with my last name.”
Queen Constantina blinked, clearly unprepared for his bluntness. “Oh, how… harrowing. It must be such a challenge to—well, you know.”
Hook’s eyes narrowed, and the smile he shot her was anything but kind. “Past is past. Your Majesty. Doesn’t stop me from living my life, just going to school like a normal teenager.”
Charming’s voice cut in, sharper than before. “If you're asking me, I like the Hook.”
Hook blinked, startled. Charming’s words were sweet, but there was a protective edge to them that hadn’t been there before. He glanced sideways at the prince, who met his gaze with a resolute nod.
Queen Constantina seemed equally taken aback, her lips twitching. “Well, I suppose that’s what matters.”
“See, Constantina? This lad’s tougher than half the men in the kingdom.” King Maximilian leaned back in his chair, grinning. “I like him.”
Queen Constantina didn’t respond immediately. She turned her attention back to Charming, her voice dripping with maternal concern. “Well, I just hope you know what you’re doing, Christopher. I’m sure someone like Mr. Hook lives quite an adventurous lifestyle. I wouldn’t want you getting caught up.”
Hook’s jaw tightened, and before he could snap back with something cutting, Charming’s voice rang out, firm and clear.
“With all due respect, Mom, I can decide for myself what’s good for me. You said you wanted to meet my partner and here he is.”
The Queen stared at him, her smile frozen. Hook nearly choked on his shock. He must be dreaming. Did Princey just stand up for him?
“Oh, Constantina, let the boy have his fun. It’s his birthday, after all!” King Maximilian boomed, He turned his attention to Hook with a wide grin. “Now, any skateboarding story James? are you any good?”
“Oh, I don't your majesty. I’ve fought sea monsters, sailed ships but I have not skated any boards yet.”
King Maximilian barked another laugh, slapping the table lightly. “And son no need to call me your majesty, Dad would do.”
“You don’t need to call him Dad if you don’t want to,” Charming whispered.
Hook snorted under his breath, but before anyone could comment, Queen Constantina leaned forward “So, James, tell me—are you the jealous type?”
Hook let out a short breathy chuckle, the question catching him off guard. “Jealous?”
“Well,” she said smoothly, her tone as sharp as the edge of a dagger. “It’s just that tonight, Christopher will have quite the lineup of dancing partners. It’s customary, you see. He’ll be dancing with a lot of suitress. Lovely ones.”
Hook froze, his grin flickering for half a second before he schooled his features into something resembling indifference. Charming stiffened beside him, his fork clattering lightly against his plate.
“Comes with the territory, doesn’t it?” Queen Constantina continued, voice cool. “I know it’s hard to understand but I’m sure Christopher can explain.”
There it was. A carefully veiled jab, one that Hook knew wasn’t just about the dancing. It crashed like waves on the shore.
Hook leaned back in his chair, forcing a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “No need to worry, Your Majesty. I’ve never been the possessive type. Can’t be jealous if I don’t bloody care.” His tone was flippant as he tried his best to lie through his teeth. He was a pirate after all, being possessive came with the hat and the job description.
Charming shot him a look, somewhere between apologetic, hurt, and worried, but Hook didn’t meet his gaze.
“Oh, good,” Queen Constantina said, her smile tightening. “Because Christopher has always been so popular. I’ve heard you're quite popular for things too.”
Hook gripped the edge of the table. He knew a loaded comment when he heard one. What made it sting more was that it wasn’t even the same old barbs, wrapped in prettier packaging. The message was clear: you don’t belong here.
And Hook was fucking sick of it.
The rest of the hour blurred into white noise. His thoughts high as in the stratosphere, checking out completely as the conversation droned on. The clinking of silverware, the hum of idle chatter, it all faded into a low buzz in his ears.
He sat there because he had to. Because this was what he’d come here for, wasn’t it? To shake things up. To cause a scene. He was a pirate at the royal table, and they’d never let him forget it.
Somewhere in that haze, he missed Queen Constantina’s voice softening as she glanced at Charming.
“I’m only looking out for you, Christopher,” she murmured. “And I’m sorry if I came off a bit… harsh earlier.”
Hook didn’t hear it. He didn’t hear any of it. His mind was already halfway out the door.
Finally, the longest hour of his life came to an end. Servants began clearing plates, and Hook decided he’d had enough. He pushed his chair back abruptly, the screech of wood against marble cutting through the room like a knife.
“Right. I think I’ve overstayed my welcome.” His voice was sharp and loud enough to draw everyone’s attention.
“James, what are you doing?”
But Hook didn’t care. He was already on his feet, shoving his hand and hook into the pockets of Charmings jacket. “Thanks for the breakfast, Your Majesties. It was a delight meeting both of you.” His words dripped with sarcasm, but his smirk was nowhere to be found.
“Charming, I can't do this . I’m sorry ” His voice was quieter this time, but no less sharp. And with that, he turned on his heel and strode out of the dining hall, not sparing a single glance back.
The heavy doors closed behind him with a resounding thud, and Hook let out a shaky breath.
He didn’t know where he was going, but he sure as hell wasn’t sticking around.
👑
Charming hesitated at the table, his fingers tapping nervously against his plate. His mother’s pointed questions and his father’s strained attempts to mediate played on a loop in his mind.
He should stay, keep up appearances— But every second he spent sitting there while Hook stormed off felt like a weight crushing his chest. Finally, with a sharp inhale, Charming stood abruptly.
“Excuse me,” he said, his voice clipped and tight. He didn’t even glance at his parents.
“Christopher, where are you—”
“I’ll be back.” His tone carried enough edge to make even his mom pause.
He strode toward the door, ignoring Lionel’s raised brow as he intercepted him in the hallway.
“Christopher, you have other obligations,” Lionel reminded him, ever the composed observer.
“They can wait,” Charming snapped, brushing past him.
“They can handle being late, right?” he added over his shoulder, more to himself than Lionel. He didn’t wait for a response as he hurried up the grand staircase.
Hook was at the top of the stairs, shoulders hunched and back turned, but before he could slip away, Charming reached out and grabbed his wrist—his left wrist.
The cold curve of the metal hook pressed against Charming’s palm, and Hook flinched like he’d been burned.
“You were good in there,” Charming said, trying for a grin but faltering. “You caused a scene, just like we planned.”
“Is that supposed to make me feel better?”
Charming wavered. “I mean... I thought you knew coming into this wasn’t going to be fun.”
Hook’s laugh was bitter, almost hollow. “I didn’t agree to any of this. I only went along with it because you caught me red-handed, remember?” His voice dropped. “Don’t act like I had a choice.”
Charming winced. “That’s not fair. I didn’t blackmail you—”
“But you didn’t exactly give me any fucking options, did you?” Hook interrupted, his voice rising.
“I don’t have much time, but I’ll see you later—”
“No, you won’t.” Hook’s voice cut through the air. “I meant what I said. I can’t do this anymore.” His words felt hollow, but the look in his eyes made them hit like a slap.
Charming stepped closer, desperate now. “Hook, can we just talk about this? I thought you wouldn’t care what they said about you. You said it yourself—there’s no us.”
“But I didn’t know, okay?” Hook snapped, his voice cracking slightly. “I didn’t know it’d get to me.” He exhaled sharply, shaking his head. “I always cared. I just didn’t let it show. And it got to me because—”
“Because what?”
Hook shook his head again, jerking free of Charming’s grip. “Because nothing. It doesn’t matter.” He turned, starting down the stairs.
“James, wait up!” Charming called after him, following. “I need you.”
Hook froze for a moment but didn’t turn around. His voice, when he spoke, was low and brittle. “You don’t need me. You’ve known me for bloody a day and some hours.”
The prince reached for him again. “James, please, let’s just—”
“No!” Hook snapped, taking a step back. “You don’t get it, do you? I let you see me— all of me. Dancing with you without the hook. You were wearing my clothes. Do you know how hard that was for me?” He let out a bitter laugh, blinking rapidly. “It’s too much. I can’t—I’m sorry.”
Hook’s voice cracked on the last word, and for a moment, Charming thought he saw tears glistening along with the dark brim of his eyes, but Hook turned too quickly for him to be sure.
“James…”
“No.” Hook’s voice was sword-sharp, slicing through Charming’s protests. He didn’t turn around, but when he spoke again, his words came fast and furious, as though he’d been holding them in for too long.
“You’re not listening. You never do.” Hook finally spun around, his eyes full of hurt. “You walk around like the world bends to your fucking will because it always has. You’ve never had to fight for anything real, have you? You sit there playing the perfect prince while the rest of us—normal people—are fighting just to keep our heads above water!”
Charming tried to interrupt, but Hook’s voice only grew louder, angrier. “Do you know what it’s like to walk into a room and know— know —that you’ll never belong? That no matter what you say, or how hard you try, people like your mother will always look at me like I’m the dirt on their fucking shoes? And you—you brought me here! You put me in that room! And for what? To use me to make a point? To piss off your mummy and daddy because you’re too much of a coward to stand up to them yourself?”
“That’s not fair—” Charming started, his voice weak.
“Not fair?” Hook laughed, bitter and hollow. “You want to talk about fair? What’s fair about putting me through this circus act just so you can have your little rebellion? What’s fair about pretending like you care—like you actually see me—when all you care about is what I can do for you ? You don’t give a shit about me. I’m just a guy you’ll use and throw away when you’re done.”
“That’s not true,” Charming said, his voice cracking.
“Isn’t it?” Hook’s lips curled into a sneer. “Tell me this, Charming—when was the last time you actually thought about what I wanted? About how I felt? You didn’t. You don’t. Because that’s not who you are. You’re a spoiled, entitled asshole.”
Charming’s throat felt tight, his mind scrambling for something—anything—to say. But Hook didn’t give him the chance.
“I let you in,” Hook said, his voice breaking now, anger giving way to something raw and vulnerable. “I let you see parts of me I don’t show anyone. And you took it all, didn’t you? You took and took and took, and now I’m the one left standing here feeling like a fool. Well, congratulations, Your Highness. You win. I hope it was worth it.”
Hook stepped back, his chest heaving, tears shining in his eyes, though he quickly blinked them away.
“Happy fucking birthday, Christopher,” he spat, his voice dripping with venom. “Hope you enjoy it, because I’m done. I’m so done. ”
He turned and stormed down the stairs, his boots echoing against the marble.
Charming watched him go, frozen in place, his mind racing and his heart pounding.
He ran a hand through his hair, his thoughts swirling in a mess of guilt and confusion. Hook’s words replayed in his head, each one a punch to the gut.
Happy fucking birthday.
Charming let out a shaky breath, his hand gripping the banister as he sank onto the stairs.
He’d thought he had everything under control. He’d thought he could handle this. But now, sitting there alone, he realized just how wrong he’d been.
He was back to square one.
Charming was someohow even more screwed than before.

20 Questions for Fic Writers!
Thanks for the tag, @lizzy0305 <333
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
162
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
622,263 - surprisingly low for how many fics I have, but a bunch are drabbles so I guess that checks.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
What fandoms don't I write for? XD
Supernatural. Sherlock. Star Trek. Teen Wolf. Marvel. Harry Potter. Merlin. James Bond. Lucifer. House MD. Primeval. Doctor Who. Venom. The Witcher. The Old Guard. Ted Lasso. Detroit Become Human. Good Omens. Our Flag Means Death. Hannibal.
Plus a few others.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Meant To Be - AOS Star Trek
5 Times Jim Forgot About Vulcan Hand Sensitivity & 1 Time He Didn't - AOS Star Trek
Making Love - Venom
Lunch Break - House MD
Truth Or Dare - Supernatural
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to respond to every comment provided its not hate, I ignore hate. I want people to know that their comment is truly appreciated from the bottom of my heart. Comments are food for the writer's soul.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Probably either The Void (TOS Star Trek) or Forever (SPN) or most of my SPN Endverse fics.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Most of my fics have happy endings, I live for them! Hmmm trying to think of particularly fluffy ones though... The Prince and The Princess - (AOS Star Trek) What No Man Has Done Before - (AOS Star Trek X HP) Good News - (DBH) Afterlife - (TOS Star Trek)
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not too much, but it happens every so often. Why people can't just exit a fic or not interact with it if they don't like it is beyond me.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Sure do. Um, explicit and M/M but the specifics vary depending on pairing and fic. Been getting more detailed and more adventurous with it over the years though.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Ohhhh boi have I ever written a crazy crossover XD
Convergence - where I brought many many fandoms (and even more ships) together in a story with an actual plot.
Its not my only crossover, but it's by far the craziest.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not that I'm aware of, but I have been asked if some can be translated before, just never heard from them again.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
In a way with @lizzy0305 who started Fragments ages ago and then I finished it because we both knew she wasn't going to finish it.
and also Double Date with weegie8 a long long time ago.
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
My OTP of OTPs is Spirk <3
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Theres a johnlock fic that could be the first wip i never go back to.
and an SPN and a Stanner fic that both could stay wips forever, but honestly it just takes one spark in my brain and the right mood and I could finish any of these, so never say never.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Not sure really. My fluff is extra tooth rotting? XD Also once I get used to a character their voice is easy to channel I suppose.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Feels like everything when you're trying to write a damn fic XD um, maybe not putting in enough details into a scene.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I often use Vulcan language in Star Trek fics, I think it adds to it. However I get that it can be annoying to not understand a piece of likely important dialogue cause its in another language. It doesn't bother me though.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Technically HP when I was teen, before I knew what fandom and fanfiction were. But when I was in the know it was Supernatural.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
How can I just pick one? I'll pick a multichapter and a one shot that I love.
The One That Got Away - TOS Star Trek
The Update - DBH

1, 6, 9, 10?
Thanks for the ask!!!
What was your favorite whump gif that you made this year?
Just answered this one here :D But because I can I'm going to share another favorite gifset of mine from this year. I really love all of the David Tennant filmography whump I made this year but this one from the movie The Outsider is one of my favorites. https://aceofwhump.tumblr.com/post/734215700786348032/the-outsider-2002-the-fever-has-settled-in
It's got some of my favorite whump and coloring this scene was a challenge but i love how it came out. I could stare at that shivering forever.
6. Can you tell us about any funny or unexpected moments that happened while making whump gifs?
This one is so interesting. Let me think. Funny or unexpected. Ummm. Well one of the things I love about giffing is that I can look at a whump scene literally frame by frame and sometimes I'll see things that I didn't notice before. Like when I was making this set from The Witcher I couldn't stop looking at Joey Batey's incredibly on the verge of tears acting and seeing it frame by frame was so intriguing I ended up making another gifset focusing on that alone and made this one. I love when that happens. When you find another gifset idea within a gifset you're already working on. That's always unexpected and I love it.
9. Are there any upcoming projects or goals you have in mind for next year in regards to whump gifs?
Yes!!! So many. I have a very long list of whump scenes I've always wanted to gif but haven't yet that I've been keeping for ages. One of my goals for 2024 is to tackle that. It's got things from Stargate, Supernatural, Merlin, Hawaii Five-0, Leverage, Once Upon a Time, Hallmark movies, Emergency!, The Hardy Boys, Simon and Simon, MacGyver, and SO MUCH MORE!
Another project I'm currently debating/thinking about is maybe making my own whump month challenge like whumptober or febuwhump but strictly designed for gifmakers. Since so many of the month challenges are writing focused I've been thinking about making one that is gif/visual art focused. Prompts that are easier for gifmaking, maybe share gifmaking tips and tricks, days with questions like this, etc. I'm not sure if I'll go through with this or not but it is something I'm thinking about.
And as for goals I still have a lot gifmaking tricks I want to learn or try out. I want to play more with layouts and blending and typography and really see what I can do. And continue to work on improving my coloring and brightening cause there's always more to learn and I love that.
10. Do you have any advice or tips for aspiring whump gif makers who may be just starting out in the community?
This is such a great question! Yes! To anyone out there who wants to gif but is afraid or intimidated or unsure, I have several pieces of advice for you.
For starters, gif things you like! If there's a whumpy scene you love and want gifs of, start there. It makes it so much more fun if you gif because YOU want to gif it and not because you think this particular scene will be popular or everyone else will like it. Don't focus on getting notes. I know getting notes is nice and I too want them because it means people like what I made and more people see them which is important too BUT if that's the only reason you make gifs you'll end up disappointed very quickly especially in this current fandom climate where no one reblogs things anymore. I keep giffing because I love the process and I gif things I love. Scenes and characters I love. That's where the fun is.
Don't worry about it looking absolutely perfect. Everyone starts somewhere and there's nowhere to go but up. Focus on just learning the basics of gifmaking and go from there. You gif does not need to look perfect for you to post it. I guarantee someone out there will like your gif!
You don't need photoshop to make gifs. There are a ton of online free programs you can use to learn how to make a gif that make it super simple and easy to learn. If you want to do more then photoshop is definitely the way to go but as a beginner it's totally easy and cool to use the online programs. It's a great way to see if you like making gifs.
Just go for it! Anyone can make gifs! So if you've been thinking about giving it a try, go for it!! It's fun!

Hi! I love ur merlin fanart so much I wanna kiss u on the mouth mwah <3 I hope u continue to make them forever. As an artist myself I wanted to know what app/software do u use to paint? I'm always very curious in the process and medium, sometimes more than the actual art. Anyway thanks for answering if u do!!
Omg thank you so much!!!!:D
I actually use different programms. When I started digital art, I used Krita because it was free and I was just starting out. At some point I tried Photoshop but it wasn't really for me.
Today I use clipstudio when I'm home and get to use my graphic tablet. Clipstudio is more intuitive and artist friendly than photoshop. I paid the fee once and have been happy ever since :)
I couldn't take my entire computer with me to uni, so I got myself an ipad and I use procreate on that one, since I'd have to pay clipstudio monthly instead of just once for unknown reasons. Procreate is nice and easy to handle but I do miss the multiple screens and close ups on my computer.
At the moment, I can't imagine not working on Merlin related stuff. I've come quite obsessed with the arthurian legend and every new fandom I enter feels like it has Crossover potential. I'll be stuck here for a while I'm afraid XD or rather, delighted :3

Can you do C, J, Q and/or V for the AO3 fandom meme? Thanks :)
Here’s the list if anyone wants to send me some letters!
C: A pairing you wish you shipped, but just can't.
Anything with Clint Barton or Phil Coulson. I'm just not attracted to Jeremy Renner and I'm not familiar enough with the 616 version to get into that version. Same goes with Phil - not attracted to that actor. Honestly, pretty much anything Agents of SHIELD-related. That show was not good! Believe me, I tried to enjoy it! And any kind of -cest ship, specifically Thor/Loki.
J: Name a fandom you didn’t care/think about until you saw it all over tumblr.
Merlin! That show has been off the air for like 15 years but there’s still QUITE an active fandom on Tumblr. Same goes for Hannibal (NBC). Both of these properties are ones I found on this site, and they quickly became part of my top 3 fandoms.
Q: A ship you’ve abandoned and why.
St*ny. And I have to spell it like that because yes, it's in my blacklist. They were the first pairing I ever wrote fic for in the MCU fandom, and I have a multi-chapter fic of them that has like 17K hits on ao3. I should love them! But when I started examining my media preferences I noticed that I was focusing way too much on white characters and white ships, and I was super into Steve/T*ny when I first found the Marvel fandom. I was just finding whatever was popular and easily accessible, and that was a tough realization for me as a Black woman in fandom. So I made a conscious decision to stop reading that pairing and to seek out pairings with at least one person of color in them. That’s where the Iron Husbands obsession began, and they are now my OTP and I literally cannot handle seeing Tony being intimate in fanworks with anyone else. Most fanworks are valid as fuck and I don’t wanna shit on anyone’s preferences, but it’s important for me to center Blackness as I navigate fandom - St*ny is too easy, too plentiful, too popular for me to be satisfied with heavily focusing on it in a fandom with so many pairings and characters. Part of the reason I’m not receptive to Tom Holland’s Spidey is because he was making Superfamily jokes about him and RDJ and Chris Evans during the press tour for Civil War, which meant that he was aware of St*ny as a ship at the very least and I was just disappointed that he wasn’t diving deeper and trying harder, either. I remember that moment in time very clearly and I just resented the fuck out of him for it. An obviously projection of my own disappointment in myself but I don’t know that boy personally so I really don’t care.
V: Do you have any 3-way ships? If so, what?
TonyPepperRhodey, now and forever. Is there any fic out there about Tony’s return from space and Pepper and Rhodey taking care of him? Please don’t say I need to write it noooooooooo

A List of My OTPs
because it's 11 and I can't sleep.
Enjolras x Grantaire a.k.a. Enjoltaire a.k.a. ExR- Les Mis
How I fell into this I don't remember now. I vaguely remember reading a crackfic of this and then everything just went sideways.
This was also the fandom that helped me realize that I wasn't exactly straight and that it's okay to not be loud about my sexuality, that I can just be.
I think that explains my attachment to this ship, not to mention just the movie's Grantaire (played by George Blagden) also shipped the characters and played his character like how he thought it should be, Grantaire loving and pining after Enjolras without the revolutionary knowing it.
Except in the fan fics, Enjolras returns his feelings and they work it out, even though it's not easy because they're both stubborn as mules. Ah, ultimate fantasy I guess. And the number of great fics here, *whistle*
Also, the Les Amis? Is amazing? Especially in the modern AUs? Like they're great friends? I love this fandom so much! Permets-tu!
Shen Wei x Zhao Yunlan - Guardian / Zhen Hun
C'mon, Zhu Yilong & Bai Yu's performance and emotions? Plus just the fact the fanfic writers of this ship are absolutely amazing? Please, escape from this pairing is impossible!
Best opposites attract trope for me. An academic by day, superhero by night in love with a roguish police chief who has no powers but whose charisma, wit, and heart can get him to toe to toe with the legends.
Also, Professor Shen Wei constantly acting like an innocent civilian and lying badly? Gold!
Loki x Tony Stark a.k.a. FrostIron - Avengers
How did I honestly get to this ship? I really can't remember what started it all. I think it must have been a Loki redemption fic where Tony Stark and Pepper broke up and something something happened. Let me tell you, the writers of this ship have written sagas and ballads of epic and sometimes confusing proportions, and that is why I fell deeper into the pit. I mean, they gotta give justice to two brilliant but chaotic characters, right? Angst. This ship has sooooooooo much angst.
Eiji x Ash - Banana Fish
My god, if you want to keep your heart intact and not be reminded of all that's ugly in the world, DON'T WATCH OR READ BANANA FISH. YOUR HEART WILL NEVER HEAL!
If you're gonna watch/read it anyway, make sure to watch something fluffy and sweet after. There's a reason that people from this fandom go, "If you've seen Banana Fish's ending, then you can handle whatever angsty show you're watching now." ~ or something to that effect. Another thing we like to say in this fandom is, "Other fandoms: Let's write a Mafia AU! Banana Fish fandom: We are the Mafia AU." Yes, all of us in this fandom is dramatic af.
Yuuri x Viktor - Yuuri!!! on Ice
Uh, does this really need an explanation? Aside from the fact that you will surprisingly find a lot of Mafia AUs here because we all know that hiding behind that beautiful face of Viktor Nikiforov is a devil capable of... tearing down your self-confidence, like WTF Viktor, don't make Yuuri cry! Also, their dance together at the end, such beautiful love.
Magnus Bane x Alec Lightwood aka Malec - Shadowhunters
I never read the books and have no plans to in the near future. I just saw a video on Youtube about why Malec is life and now here I am, still reading some Malec fics from time to time.
Some stuff on the show were WTF but overall they were a really good couple who supported each other. Plus, they're a Power Couple.
Erwin x Levi aka Eruri - Attack on Titan / Shingeki no Kyojin
Not to be confused with Ereri, which is Eren x Levi, which I don't generally ship except for that one time when a writer wrote an epic fanfic series with Eren in his mid 20s and Levi in his late 20s/early 30s, reincarnation AU. Boy was that one a surprise. I did not expect that.
Anyway, I'm an Eruri fan through and through. Especially with that promise that Levi made to Erwin. And the reason he gave the serum to Armin. HE DIDN'T DO IT FOR THE KIDS YKNOW. HE DID IT FOR ERWIN. Plus, Levi, Erwin, and Hange are my special trio. Erwin's batch was really amazing.
Also, I really like the fact that the shorter and slighter person is the more badass fighter while the taller, bigger one is the more calculating and strategic one. Rocks the boat of stereotypes and all that. Bonus: how these two met. My god, what a meet-cute! 😂
Dani x Jamie aka The Au Pair and the Gardener - The Haunting of Bly Manor
It really is more of a love story than a ghost story. I dunno how to feel about this. I loved these two characters so much and I wished they had a better ending but I wasn't SO surprised because it was a horror series (Like, I was still hoping at the end that they'd be together forever but yknow...). In any case, Jamie was just awesome. And her nickname for Dani? Poppins?! God, what a lover and fighter. She was not afraid to cock a gun in a ghost's face.
... and now for my flexible BROTPs
Merlin x Arthur aka Merthur - BBC Merlin
Yeah, my brain is so chaotic multiple OTPs and BROTPs of the same pairing exist at the same time without clashing with one another or having major identity crises.
I actually really like BROTP Merlin and Arthur and also like reading OTP Merthur.
And when Merlin is paired with Morgana or Freya or sometimes even Gwaine, that's fine with me too. As long as his bromance with Arthur stays intact, because that's what drew me to the show in the first place. Personal preference. I see them as platonic soulmates.
*Shout-out to the Merthur writers though, you kept me sane during my "Post-Merlin Depression," which is actually a term thrown around in the fandom because of that horrid final season (not saying it's a good term but it's what it was called). A lot of amazing fics here, too, both Magic Reveal and Modern AU ones. Full of action and adventure too! I mean, there are boy-band-looking Knights and magic-wielding badasses!
Tim Drake x Conner Kent/Kon-El aka Red Robin x Super Boy - DC Comics
More like flexible otp. I dig Stephanie Brown and Tim Drake BUT I really really also dig Tim Drake and Conner Kent. When they're TimKon, it's like an entirely different entity from TimSteph. Ugh, hard to explain.
I mean, Kon telling Tim, "You'll always be my Robin" and Tim telling Kon, "And you'll always be my clone boy" is the shit. Also when Kon could pick out/recognize Tim's heartbeat. And when Tim nearly went mad scientist trying to bring his bestie back. Like, dudes, wtf. And at the same time, hell yeah.
Liu Kang x Kung Lao aka LiuLao - Mortal Kombat
- I see these two as more like ride or die best friends connected by fate/platonic soulmates. But also like their dynamic is so awesome, cute, sweet, badass, can't-live-without-you vibes.
Basically the same way I feel about Merthur. I like reading both romantic and platonic relationships between these two characters. Like, the LiuLao fan creators peeling off the layers of this relationship and exposing every raw nerve is beautiful.
They love diving into the characters' psyche, emotions, motivations, fears, and doubts and you get really amazed because... Aren't they just characters from a video game, you ask? Well yeah, but MK video game has several interesting storylines and the Mortal Kombat 2021 movie was just the perfect jumpstarter to this beautiful blaze.
I mean, "We swore that if we were to die, it would be together"? Hell no, you're not dropping that on us and not expecting us to create our very own spin-offs and 12-page essays on that shit. That's what we fans do, baby. And also, really, we need a shaolin monks/white lotus spin-off/prequel. We're starving here.
As this ship is the newest one on my list, it's the one I'm looking forward to the most. Not enough fan content, I tell you. Not enough. One of these days, I just might add my own.
But right now, it's past 1 and so I shall attempt to sleep.
***No images for TimKon and LiuLao coz apparently I've gone past my 10-images allowance 😤

Ok Winchester, you can do this. Just be cool, calm and collected. Dean said to himself as he drove towards Foxhall Village, the area that Cas and Jack lived in. Jack had fallen fast asleep about an hour before and every now and then Dean would glance over, marvelling at how much Jack looked like Sammy when he slept. They would both zonk out instantly, mouth slightly open without a care in the world. As much as Dean missed Claire, because that pint sized tearaway was his whole damn world, he couldn’t help but wish that he’d been able to get to know Jack more.
"Hey kid we're here." Dean said as they drove up the street Cas now lived on. "Nice place, what's your dad doing now here in DC?"
"Oh, he's the head of the council of economic advisers." Jack said. "Which sounds cool but it just means he talks about economic policy a lot. It’s cool when he goes to the White House, last time he stole a pen for me. Don’t tell anyone because I’m not sure if that illegal or not."
Dean just sat there for a moment because of course Cas now had a great job within the government. When they'd first met Dean had made endless jokes about how Cas would be president one day. Cas had always rolled his eyes but smiled whenever Dean jokingly called him Mr President.
"What's wrong?" Jack asked.
"Nothing kid, come on. Let's get you back to your dad. No doubt Claire has driven him insane by now so getting her back will be easy." Dean said, getting out the car when all he wanted to do was clamber back into the impala and hightail it back to Kansas. Yes, he was being a coward but the idea of seeing Cas after all this time was doing things to his brain.
"Doubt it, he's put up with Uncle Gabriel for all these years." Jack said.
"Yeah, I remember your uncle alright. Ruined our damn couch." Dean muttered darkly.
"That doesn't surprise me." Jack said as the pair walked up the driveway towards a large Tudor style house. Huh working in government definitely pays well Dean thought. Swallowing down his fear, Dean rang the doorbell. He prayed to whoever was up there that he didn't throw up on the tasteful doormat. The door opened and Dean braced himself to see Cas. Instead, he came face to face with-
"Uncle Gabriel!" Jack said happily. Dean suppressed a groan as he looked down at the short, cheerful-looking man. How was it possible that Gabriel looked almost exactly the same after twelve goddamn years?
"Well if it isn't my favourite nephew." Gabriel said happily as he pulled Jack in for a hug. "And you brought Winchester! Never brought he'd leave Kansas. Is your brother still an Adonis of a man?"
"Was he ever?" Dean asked as he held out his hand for Gabriel to shake. Sure the guy might have wreaked Dean's brand new couch fourteen years prior but he was trying to be polite.
"Oh he was and I let him know all the time. Shame he was so happy with Eileen." Gabriel said, looking wistfully as he shook Dean's hand.
"Yeah well...not that it isn't nice to see you again Gabriel but I kind of need to grab my daughter." Dean said. Maybe he could do this whole thing without having to even see Cas. Part of him was relieved but that idea and the other part of him was just a swirl of emotions.
"Of course, follow me to the kitchen." Gabriel said, stepping back inside the house and motioning for Dean to follow him. Dean obliged, looking around the pristine hallway for any sign of Cas. Jack was hot on their heels as they walked into the kitchen. Dean stopped and just glared at the sight in front of him.
Claire, wearing one of Dean's flannel shirts that was definitely three sizes too big for her, was cheerfully stirring the contents of a large saucepan. Loudly humming along to a song on the radio, which after a second Dean placed as Queen. When Dean coughed loudly she looked up and grinned.
"Dad! Come on in, we're making chilli for dinner." Claire said, looking far too happy for her own good. "Jack, grab some chips and gauc out the fridge."
"We?" Dean asked while Jack sauntered past him towards the huge sub zero refrigerator.
"Hello Dean." And damn if that didn't make Dean want to sprint out the house. He braced himself and looked over to where Cas was standing. All the breath in Dean’s body left him as his eyes fell onto Cas. He looked almost exactly the same apart from a few wrinkles around the startlingly blue eyes that Dean had always adored. His hair was still a complete mess and...son of a bitch, he was even wearing the blue sweater Dean had brought him for Christmas fifteen years prior. Seriously, was he doing this on purpose?
“Um...hey Cas...long time.” Dean managed to stammer out.
“Dork.” He heard Claire mutter under her breath.
“Hey.” Dean said, rounding on Claire. “You got any idea how much trouble you’re in of this little stunt? This ain’t gonna be like the time you blew up the shed, you’re gonna be grounded until the day you graduate high school. Maybe even college.” Dean said.
“You blew up a shed?” Cas, Gabriel and Jack all asked, staring at Claire mix of horror (Cas) and awe (Jack and Gabriel).
“Ok, I didn’t blow up the shed. I started a small fire in the shed by accident.” Claire retorted. Dean and Cas both groaned as Jack walked over to give Claire a high five.
“I really love this kid.” Gabriel announced.
“Oh Jesus.” Dean muttered at the same as Cas. They both glanced at one another for a moment before Dean turned his attention back to Claire. “You. Car. Now.”
-
I should have stayed hiding upstairs. Cas thought as he stared, yes he was staring, at Dean. How was it possible that Dean looked even better after twelve years? Dean in his early twenties had been a sight to behold but Dean in his late thirties was a thing of beauty. His boyish good looks had turned into handsome roguishness.
“Dad, I can’t leave yet. We’ve just laid the table.” Claire said to Dean.
"We thought you'd be hungry after driving all day so Claire and I made dinner." Cas said. In reality Gabriel had dragged him into the kitchen wherein he’d found Claire already making chilli. Cas wasn’t going to tell Dean that.
"That's a nice thought but-"
"Dad, I know all you've eaten today was gas store jerky.” Claire said, rolling her eyes. “Am I right?” she asked Jack who just nodded. “See? Now wash your hands, sit down and eat this damn chilli because I’m Aunt Eileen’s recipe and I know that’s your favourite.” Claire said, pointing a chilli covered wooden spoon at Dean. Cas simply could not fight the smile that spread across his face when he saw Dean’s terrified expression.
“Fine, just chill out. God you sound like Ellen when you do that.” Dean said, going over the sink to wash his hands before grabbing a seat and sitting down. Cas rolled his eyes, not even realising he was doing it until Dean looked over and glared. Dean was nearly forty and he was pouting like a small child.
“Well while you all enjoy this little family reunion I’m going to grab some wine...maybe a enough for a vineyard.” Gabriel said as he sauntered out the room.
“Does Gabriel live here?” Dean asked Jack.
“No, he was getting his condo renovated so he stayed here for a while. He’s back home now.”
“Longest eight weeks of my entire life.” Cas said quietly. “Jack, can you help Claire dish up?”
“Sure thing, let me run my bags upstairs and I’ll be right back.” Jack said.
“Oh I’ll help you!” Claire said as they both ran out the room.
“Nice to know subtly isn’t their strong point.” Dean said with a nervous laugh. Cas just let out a long sigh and sat down across from Dean.
“Yes, I’m starting to think they might be plotting something.” Cas said. “If Claire is anything like Jack in the determination department then we might be in trouble.”
“Oh believe me, Claire does not need any help when it comes to determination. She can wrap anyone round her finger. You know I still have a scar on my forehead from when she made me go rollerblading?”
“You went rollerblading?” Cas asked, utterly baffled by the idea of Dean Winchester going rollerblading.
“Not voluntarily.” Dean said. Cas laughed and was shocked to see Dean’s face light up. “Um...I’m sorry to crash your evening like this. I didn’t think that I’d be here tonight.”
“No, when I went to the train station to pick up Jack I didn’t expect to see my twelve year old daughter.” Cas said. “You don’t have to apologise, I’ve enjoyed having Claire here.”
“Yeah, I really liked spending time with Jack, he’s a good kid.” Dean said. “Listen Cas-”
“Got the wine!” Gabriel said, strolling back into the kitchen holding two bottles of red wine. “Where’s Thing One and Thing Two.”
“Here!” Jack and Claire said in unison. Cas had a feeling the two had just been waiting outside the door for at least a minute. His suspicions were confirmed when he saw the smug look Jack gave Claire as they were dishing up dinner. Gabriel kept himself busy by pouring all the adults generous glasses of wine. Dean tried to protest because he still needed to drive back to Kansas but Gabriel laughed him off.
“So Deano, what have you been up to all these years?” Gabriel asked after nearly ten minutes of awkward silence while they ate.
“Oh...um...not much…” Dean said, staring down at his chilli.
“You have!” Claire intoned. She turned to Gabriel and Cas with a proud look on her face. “When Uncle Bobby decided to retire five years ago Dad brought his share of the garage. It’s expanded so much over the past few years that last year Dad brought the empty lot next door. He’s restoring a 1957 Chevy Bel Air at the moment and it’s awesome.” Claire said with so much pride in her voice that it made Cas smile fondly. Dean had always had a love for classic cars and he was happy to see that he had made his passion a profession.
“That’s amazing Dean, you should be proud.” Cas said.
“He is, he’s just awful at saying it.” Claire said. “We’ve got this old Firebird in the garage back home that Dad’s slowly been restoring. It’s really cool.”
“Are you planning on selling it once it’s restored?”
“Um...no...I mean, I was thinkin’ bout it but Claire loves the car so much that I’m planning on giving it to her as a graduation present.” Dean said, looking away from his plate of chilli to give Claire a quick, but loving, smile. “That’s if she gets good grades and promises to take care of it.” he added and Claire laughed.
“Me and Jack could take a twin road trip when we both graduate.” Claire said excitedly. “See the grand canyon or hike Yosemite!”
“And Yellowstone! We could see the geothermal pools.” Jack said with as much excitement as Claire.
“You know most teenagers would want to go to Tijuana.” Gabriel said.
“Does Tijuana have cool rock formations like Antelope Canyon? If not I don’t care about it.” Jack said and once again he and Claire high fived. It was at that moment Cas realised this wasn’t going to be easy. Claire and Jack knew about each other now. They’d bonded while at camp and separating them again would not only break their hearts but Cas’ as well.
“Yeah well, we’ll see.” Dean said in a small voice, catching Cas’ eye. This isn’t going to end well he said with his eyes. Cas nodded in agreement. While Claire and Jack began to plan a road trip that was several years away, Cas coughed to get Dean’s attention.
“I’m glad you’re doing something you love, with the garage I mean.”
“Oh...yeah, well you always knew it was a dream of mine to have my own garage.”
“I did and if I remember rightly I said that it would become a reality.” Cas said.
“Yeah well, it’s not as big as working in the white house but…”
“Dean, I think we both know that your job is far more interesting than mine. I talk about budgets all day while you-”
“Are stuck in the guts of a car and come home covered in axle grease? Seriously, Claire hoses me down some days.” Dean said letting out a small laugh as, once again, he glanced fondly at Claire.
“She’s amazing, I have to say. You’ve done an amazing job in raising her.” Cas said and he really meant it. True, most of the time he’d spent with a teenage Claire included Cas ‘spiralling’ but he’d enjoyed it.
“You say that now because she’s on her best behaviour...sort of. You do remember she set fire to the shed right? You’ve got the real winner with Jack. That kid, he’s just awesome. Really smart, kind of reminds me of Sam.”
“Can we both agree that our kids are amazing and leave it at that?” Cas asked. Dean chuckled and Cas was flooded with memories at the sound. His stomach ached with longing to make Dean laugh like that again and again. This really wasn’t going to end well at all.

7 comfort movies/shows
I was tagged by @curiouslissa about a million years ago, but at the time I legitimately couldn’t think of any shows that fit the category, as I typically don’t turn to media in times of need.
That being said, I have managed to think of some shows/movies that I repeatedly return to when I want something reliably good and easy to watch, and maybe that’s close enough.
Star Trek: The Original Series
I mean, it’s adorable. Science and optimism always win out in the end, and you can watch fandom tropes being invented in real-time. There are probably bad props and sets you can laugh at.
Doctor Who
Classic Who has the same low-budget, big-heart vibe as TOS, while New Who has the advantage of actually moving the plot along in a timely manner. Will definitely make me nostalgic, but it’s always fun to see any iteration of the Doctor bouncing around on screen.
The Lord of the Rings (extended versions, obviously)
A timeless classic. Better than the books and yet so transparently in love with them. You can feel the dedication in each frame. I’m in love with all of the characters. Watch any installment at your own peril, because you’re then contractually obligated to watch the other two.
Back to the Future
Another trilogy that really holds up, despite not having correctly predicted flying cars. Amazing to watch all three back-to-back and pick up on the cross-film references. And with music by Huey Lewis and the News!
Thor: Ragnarok
Say what you will about the MCU, but they’ve made some genuinely enjoyable movies. The 80s space vibes of this one, plus the chaotic energy of literally every character, make it incredibly fun. Kick back with some popcorn and have a good time.
The Road to El Dorado
Cannot overstate the Miguel–Tulio dynamic enough. Very funny while also being pretty darn historically accurate. Another one to watch for the music—Elton John this time. And now it will forever remind me of The Treasure of Palenque, because I listened to this track on repeat while writing it.
The Prince of Egypt
This one lives right next to The Road to El Dorado in my mind. Amazing music and beautiful scenery. Kind of wish they’d stayed in Egypt for the whole movie just so I could spend more time admiring the architecture. 😂 Will always fondly remind me of The Curse of Horemheb (and its unwritten sequel).
Honorable mentions: Merlin, Tangled, Megamind, Sherlock Holmes (2009), and The Mummy
Tagging @doctortreklock, if she wants to do it.

this is a rant about how they ruined gwen’s character and about her relationships too
disclaimer: this post is long because i derail a bit from the main topic i guess and i overanalyze stuff a lot and i don’t know how to explain very well what i mean, also this topic is not really thaaat deep i just write a lot, but i hope someone on the fandom will understand this and agree :)
I will be forever bitter that Gwen x Lancelot wasn’t canon and that they had to be apart from each other. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE that Gwen became queen later on and it’s not like her relationship with Arthur was bad, I like it, but honestly it was rushed and it was completely ruined around the last two seasons.
So first of all, Gwen loved Lancelot, very clearly, and she promised her feelings for him wouldn’t fade as long as she lived. And she seemed really upset when he left without saying goodbye on S2E04, when he decided he didn’t want to come between her and Arthur. But it’s a problem because Gwen and Lancelot already loved each other and were perfect together, while Gwen barely knew Arthur really, and as I said it was really rushed. I think that’s my main issue, it was too fast, I understand how and why Gwen developped feelings for Lancelot, but I cannot understand why it was so quick for her to develop those feelings on Arthur. I just can’t. I know why she likes him, but how was that so fast. Because all that happened when he stayed at her home was basically her giving him a lesson (which, btw, we all loved that, Gwen is an icon), I completely see why Arthur loves her, that’s easy to see, but I don’t understand how it happened to Gwen?.
My other big issue is that we see on later seasons how Gwen basically loses importance, and like even after she marries Arthur and becomes queen etc etc she starts to not be so present, and it is canon that Arthur doesn’t talk to or spends much time with her, he spends all his time with Merlin and tells him everything but is too secretive around her, and that’s just not really normal? I mean, with the way those parts were written of course people ship Arthur with Merlin and not with Gwen.
It’s tricky tho, I do want Gwen to be queen, which is what happens, and I know the whole situation with her being a servant and Arthur a prince, which meant their love was almost impossible, is an interesting topic, but at the same time I never wanted her to be with Arthur. It’s really weird, I just think so many things could have been different but she really HAD to be queen, it was important for so many reasons, so that’s the issue.
I also think ever since she became queen she changed so much, she said in the past that she’s not ashamed of being a servant and that she’s happy with her life, and I think that’s the issue: her becoming queen means she is no longer a servant, and I mean good for her being queen is so cool and she deserves it, but also, it changes everything, now when we see her, although she is still the same humble, honest and loyal woman we’ve always known, her character feels different. And if you remember the whole situation with Morgana controlling her and all that....
Look, obviously I wanted Merthur to be canon because let’s be honest it’s what makes the most sense and I always am sad about the fact that it didn’t happen in some way or another, but that’s not the reason I don’t like Arthur to be with Gwen, I just think that her character was ruined on the last season and I am angry about that because she is one of the best characters of the show, I love her so much, and her romance with Arthur changed a lot of things. Gwen deserved so much better, in many ways, and I don’t think she needs a man to be happy, not at all, but she did find a man she loved and I wanted her to be happy with him, you know? We know her relationship with Arthur failed a lot and she didn’t seem too happy after becoming queen. Heck, even the fact that she was to marry Arthur and become queen ruined her life (flashback to that episode where she was under a spell and at the end was banished from Camelot...)
For me what would have made more sense, considering everything that happened before, would have been her being with Lancelot and rejecting Arthur, and then him suffering for that but recovering eventually and being with Merlin, it literally makes the most sense and plot-wise it would have done so many great things, like maybe idk leading Merlin to telling him sooner about his magic. Honestly I am disappointed because they developped Arthur’s and Merlin’s relationship so much and they were so close and so many gay things happened, so this is not just me being sad I didn’t get that lgbt+ representation or that my ship wasn’t canon, this is also me actually being bitter because they had a great opportunity to make it happen when it made sense and it just didn’t happen.
Anyway, the only issue with that is that Gwen had to become queen, she really had to, it was important for her and for everyone else and without that so many things wouldn’t work so it frustrates me that it is the way it is. I could be angry at the writers because they did many, many mistakes that infuriate me sometimes, but I understand it was a tricky situation.
I just think, if they weren’t gonna let Gwen love Lancelot why did they bring his character back? That only conflicted her, and made her suffer in the end, and it was unecessary unles they were planning on actually letting him be finally happy with her, after finding himself, which was also thanks to her.
As a little side note, I almost forgot to mention that I actually ship Gwen with Morgana because they were so soft with each other and it also made sense (well, at least before Morgana’s corruption)
Romance has never really been a big thing in the show aand it’s not my favourite part either, it’s always been quite simple, so for it to be better for the characters and everything, they would have had to focus more on the romance but that has never been the point of the show which is why the simplicity might be good too.
Idk, maybe I’m just overthinking it, but it always felt so wrong. It’s more than just me not liking a ship, it’s really an issue with how that part of the plot turned out, this series is, in a big part, about the relationships between the characters, their dynamics and friendships (but not really the romance as i already said), mainly between Merlin and Arthur (I mean it’s all basically about Merlin having to save him so they can fulfill their destinies together hmmm), so of course things like this are important to the plot and change everything, but yeah idk I don’t think it’s that deep, just something that’s been on my mind and I tend to overanalyze stuff
#i hope the fandom is still alive last time i checked was months ago#merlin bbc#merthur#arthur pendragon#merlin emrys#og post

I recently rewatched some of the Harry Potter movies and I've been craving some reader insert stuff for the fandom ;v; Perhaps something HP-related where reader is locked in somewhere with the character(s) of your choice?
since it’s quarantine im re-reading the harry potter books and oh my god im in love with george
requests are open! | masterlist
It is too easy to forget just how playful Hogwarts actually is. It might appear all dust and studying, but at heart the castle, embedded with magic, is more mischievous than half the students attending. Secret rooms and passageways are fun and useful and you have laughed loudly often at your peers who, unknowingly, stumbled into a trap — mostly set up by you, for the sake of humour. It was quite funny until you were stuck in one of said rooms, unable to leave.
It was George’s idea. He had lured you out with promises of dungbombs and portable swamps and all other goodies for some old fashioned pranks. Your misplaced trust had locked you into a small never used classroom with dust coating every inch and corner in white. Though, you suppose it could be worse. Misery loves company, and you absolutely adore that George himself has to share your fate with you.
“Did you—“ You speak up, annoyance slipping past your calm tone, “—Tell anyone where you were going? Anyone at all?” You glance at him. He stands next to you, arms crossed over his chest, staring at the wall where the door was swallowed by murky green wallpaper.
“Well…” He trails off, thinking and re-thinking his answers, threading carefully, awfully mindful of your squinted eyes and clenched jaw. He’s not an idiot, you’ll give him that. “I…might’ve mentioned it to Fred.”
“Might’ve?” You stress, frowning.
He shrugs, turning to you with a loopy smile, “Okay, I had mentioned it to Fred. But he’s not coming.”
“Why?”
He falters a bit, his jovial exterior softening for but a moment before he’s back to his smug, humorous self, “He thinks we’re on a date.”
You stare at him, “Oh, Merlin, I hope not.” He fakes being offended by your words, landing a hand on his heart with a surprised expression. You look around, “Bit of a lame date that’d be.” You mutter, “I mean… Here’s quite dirty. I’d prefer The Three Broomsticks, to be honest. Take me there next time.”
He hums, “Noted. Should we go once we leave here?”
“We might not leave until morning.” You state sharply, “We might stay locked here forever.”
“Guess we’ll have to go on dates and get married here, then.”
Your heart skips a beat, even if he is joking. Suddenly you are thankful for the dim lighting, because your cheeks are frying.
“Can you imagine that?” You say with a nervous laugh, “ Well, I suppose we could clean. And summon food from the kitchens.” An idea pops to mind, “You recon the elves would help us?”
He shrugs, “We could try. How do you call on an elf, anyway?”
“Here elfy-elfy-elfy?”
Nothing happens. George snorts.
“Have a better idea, don’t you?” You squeeze past your teeth.
Taking out his wand with a cocky grin, he points at a random corner, swirling his wand in elegant motions and in a boisterous voice saying “Elfus Apparus!”
The classroom flashes with blue-white light as loud bang echoes and makes you jerk. With a yelp you grasp his hand, staring at the flying sparks and hissing fumes and then glancing at him only to see him just as surprised at you.
On one of the white coated tables stands a grimy figure of a house elf — hunched, bony, with a dirtied apron and shirt, large glass eyes. It stares at you, unmoving, waiting for an order. Your mouth falls open yet no sound comes out. George, still ogling the creature, nudges you softly to speak up. You jerk.
Clearing your throat, you say, “H-hello, uh— mister house elf. We would, uhm, like to leave this classroom. If that’s okay.”
George nods vigorously. You have never been so polite in your entire life, and he has never been so quiet.
The elf raises his hand and snaps his fingers. A crunch behind you — something emerging from the walls — and it bows his head before vanishing into smoke. You turn to find the door, solid as ever, back in its rightful place and with a shaky hand pull it open.
A familiar, empty corridor greets you. You smile a little to yourself, the tension easing out your shoulders. You emerge still holding George’s hand, fingers intertwined, still a bit shaky. The door shuts and melts into the wall again once you’re both safely out.
“Can’t believe that actually worked.” You mumble.
“Of course it worked. I’m bloody good at spell casting, aren’t I?” He grins, “But besides that…The Three Broomsticks, huh?”
You stare at him, “Now?”
“Why not? It’s a school night.”
On normal occasions, the fact that you have classes tomorrow would have swayed you to stay in the castle and do your homework. That and it being probably around 10 p. m. Alas, you have never said no to breaking the rules, and despite him maybe leading you to another trap again, you squeeze his hand and smile.
“Lead the way.”
.
hope you liked it! xx

Top five shows tag game!
Thank you for the tag lovelies 😘 @elora-lane & @fourohfour-error
Post five shows with a gif that always make you smile! Tag friends to keep it going.
1. Friends
I know it’s a typical one that everybody puts on their list, but it’s such easy watching and never fails to make me laugh!
2. Merlin
This show was so lighthearted and funny, but also dark and quite soulful at times. It was the first fandom I’d been apart of and it’s still very much alive nearly 8 years after the final (devastating) episode. (Merthur will forever live on in my heart)
3. The Good Place
I’ve seen this show at least three times now, and I’ve got several friends into the show by not shutting up about it...🙃
4. Brooklyn nine nine
This is another show I got several friends into by not shutting up about. Amazingly, some of these people are still friends with me!
5. The Umbrella Academy
I started reading these comics as a sixteen year old, and I’m just as obsessed [redacted] years later!

Salty Ask list: 9. Most disliked arc? Why?, 20. What is the purest ship in the fandom?, and 27. Least shippable character? The saltier the better!!!
Thank you for the ask, anon!! 💜💜
OK, I will answer both 9 and 10 (because the most disliked arc is no. 10 😅) I have already answered some of these earlier, so I will copy/paste those, if that’s OK!
9. Most disliked character(s)? Why?
For Merlin:
Agravaine. He’s just the worst. So greasy and sleazy and just, yuck. Yuck, overall. He’s not even one of those characters one can love to hate, like, for example, Uther, who is also simply the worst, but who will preoccupy you in ways you never saw coming! When it comes to Agravaine, everything about him was so thoroughly hateful, frustrating and unenjoyable, the highlight of the entire season was finally watching him go splat against the wall! The second most hated is that girlfriend of Gwaine’s at the very end that was plying him for information. That entire sequence is just so mind-numbingly infuriating, I can’t even think of it without getting angry. It almost ruined Gwaine for me entirely.
For The Untamed:
Oh, finally an easy one!! 😂😂 Wen Chao, Wang Lingjiao and Wen Zhuliu are in a tight race for the first place here and who is winning depends entirely on who I’m looking at in that precise moment! Of course, Wen Ruohan and Wen Xu can get into the hate bucket too, but they were so bland and boring, they cannot really compare. Jin Guangshan is also the worst, I can’t stand him. The only reason I hate the Wens more is that Jin Guangshan is actually a competent villain on a higher scale of villainy than the previous lot. Jin Zixun is also awful, a ridiculously unredeemable character on every front and Su She can also have an honourable mention.
10. Most disliked arc? Why?
For Merlin:
Oooh! There are so many!! But I think the ones that I rant about the most often are those related to Gwen! Everything about Gwencelot makes me rage! I dislike him and how he treated her and just do not see this epic ~love~ there, at least not on his part, yet they kept bringing him back to mess up her life over and over again.
Mind you, I am not the biggest fan of Arthur in this context either, he was a terrible boyfriend (though a somewhat better husband because Merlin picked up the slack), even though Arwen >>> Gwencelot by miles and miles. I hated how he would break up with her every five minutes over nonsense and then come crawling back. I hated how she always immediately forgave him, all grateful and relieved, and I always felt like she didn’t really have a choice because the power imbalance between them was staggering. Plus, the fact that she was the one who nursed Uther in his last months after everything he had done to her, and that Arthur had let it happen, infuriates me to no end.
My loathing for that whole cheating arc is infinite. I hate how the writers could not make up their minds about what they wanted to do with her. On the one hand, they were such cowards in their attempts to keep her ideologically pure, they had already sacrificed a lot of her quirkiness and character to suit Arthur’s needs and wants and to make him look good, so they were reluctant to have her actually cheat because it would undermine him. I don’t understand why they even had to have that entire arc if they were so afraid to go there. She was supposed to be under mind-control, and then they pointed out that the spell works by bringing suppressed emotions to the forefront! Why was that necessary? I mean, you can’t have it both ways! Either do it and own it, or just leave it alone! It would have been so easy to have her choose Lancelot and develop a proper romance there, and then to have Lancelot die, and Gwen fall in love with Arthur afterwards, as he supports her while she grieves. But, no, they had to take this cheap shot at her and humiliate her and have her cleaning pigsties just so that Arthur can angst about it for a few episodes. I am forever mad.
I also dislike the whole evil!Gwen arc (though a part of me did enjoy watching her go apeshit after quietly swallowing so much injustice throughout the entire five seasons of this show). I feel like they were intentionally undermining the character and her entire relationship with Arthur. The whole cheating nonsense so late into season 4 had already done so much damage, then they went and pulled this poorly-thought-out crap in the second half of season 5, when emotions were already running high and nobody was in the mood to be forgiving of someone trying at and almost succeeding in killing Arthur, who was so much more beloved among the viewers than her. Just imagine how much better spent that time would have been if they had... oh, I don’t know, developed Mordred more and given him a proper reason to turn against Arthur!
Ugh 😒
For The Untamed:
I dislike the whole Yanli/JZX romance. I don’t know what he’s like in the novel and the other adaptations, but he gets on my very last nerve in the drama and I never actually saw him do anything meaningful to redeem himself for all the crap he pulled and all the humiliation he piled on to her. I also don’t like the whole Yin Iron nonsense. It just doesn’t tie in properly and the plot holes and inconsistencies it leaves behind are gaping and huge (but, happily, nobody is watching this for the Yin Iron plot 😆). There had to have been better things to do there, especially since it is something that does not exist in the source material. The worst parts of the drama for me somehow always tie back to the Yin Iron.
20. What is the purest ship in the fandom?
For Merlin:
Hmmm… when it comes to the most popular ones, I think none of them, because they all get complicated and dark to some degree. But on a platonic level, when it comes to friendships, I would go with Merwen, Merlance and Merwaine. Merlin and Gwen are delightful together, but I have a hard time shipping them romantically without Arthur, there is just no path forward for me there that does not involve him too, and that tips the dynamic into something much more complicated (but still happy for all three of them because I am so not down for jealousy and competition between Merlin and Gwen, Arthur has two hands and he can damn well use them).
I also think that Lancelot’s love for Merlin was pure, but I just don’t ship it at all and think that there was never anything there except for friendship (I can see Arlance going sexual, though). The same goes for Gwaine, I think that he loved Merlin unconditionally, and as far as friendship goes, it is pure, but if I ship them sexually, then all purity goes out of the window, not just as far as the sex is concerned (because the sex they would be having would be positively filthy) but also because I just can’t imagine a universe in which Merlin does not love and desire Arthur more. The angst, the pain and the darkness are off the charts.
As for the less popular ones, I think the purest is Percival/Elyan regardless of whether you see it as romantic or platonic. There is just so much mutual love, admiration and respect between them! No angst, no lies, no triangles, no drama, just taking care of and supporting each other and living in domestic bliss.
For The Untamed:
WangXian, no contest. They fell in love as kids and continued to love each other for the rest of their lives, even beyond death. The way they love each other is so absolute and so selfless! They both respect and admire the other, they are so supportive and accepting of each other, quirks, flaws and all, and they kind of set the gold standard as far as relationships go!
27. Least shippable character?
For Merlin:
Eh... this is a tough one. I actually had to step away from this question and think about it and I didn’t come up with anything because the entire main and recurring cast is very shippable. There are, however, characters that aren’t shipped as much as they could be (Elyan, baby, you deserve better 😢), and then there are also characters that result in unsavory ships that are best left unmentioned (but because these are salty asks, I am going to mention them anyway).
The first one that came to my mind was Gaius, but he is actually very shippable because there is no rule that says you have to ship him in the canon timeline. He has a serious canon het love interest, and a crack one as well. Also, let’s not forget Uther. I’ve seen the fandom float this one as a crack ship, but it is actually very serious and plausible. There is so much complicated history there, decades of it, and definitely a deep, albeit toxic relationship that can absolutely be (and likely even was) sexual. If I was less busy and more inclined to get anon hate, I would totally be open to writing it myself.
I have seen a lot of people list Uther as an answer here, but Uther is very, very shippable! Anthony Head is handsome and charismatic, and he has so much presence as Uther, he could have chemistry with drywall if the script called for it. Again, there is no rule stating that a ship should be wholesome and happy, so let me go over the most obvious ones. When it comes to m/m ships, I already mentioned Gaius, plus I definitely felt it whenever the neighbouring kings came over to visit Camelot (my personal favourite was Lord Godwyn). Uther also has three canon het ships (why, yes, I am counting the troll), most notably Ygraine and Viivienne, and he is 100% shippable with Nimueh (though I prefer Nimueh with Ygraine). Last but not least, there is Morgana. It is squicky incest, yes, but it is also very obvious, if you have the inclination to go there. My jaw was on the floor on my first watch when he confessed that she was his actual biological daughter, because up until then, I totally thought that things would get sexual between them in canon.
Agravaine is also an obvious (I would even go as far as to say a semi-canon) ship for Morgana. Do I hate it? Yes. Do I think she slept with him to get him to deliver her Arthur’s head? Again, absolutely, yes. Even Kilgharrah is very shippable and he is a giant firebreathing lizard (obviously, laws of physics require transmorphing him into something smaller and (hopefully) human-shaped for the p0rn).
For The Untamed:
Jin Zixun and Jin Zixuan. I am forever mad Jin Zixuan (somehow) ends up having sex in canon anyway. My first thought for this was Wen Chao, but no, he is absolutely shippable. Like I said, the ship does not have to be nice, and Wen Chao is very nasty, but also very sexual (plus, there is always Wen Zhuliu).
The one character that I personally am the least inclined to ship is Wen Ning because he is so childlike and it feels like he never mentally developed into an adult.
