#merlin and arthur are cursed
Text
Imagine this
Arthur and Merlin get cursed by a sorcerer/sorceress to feel pain when they get too close to each other. The opposite of the forced proximity trope.
When they finally figure out how the curse works, they don’t seem that worried about it. Arthur jokes about how Merlin was annoying him recently and Merlin mentions getting some time off for once.
However, it’s so hard for them to stay away from each other. They keep accidentally getting too close to one another. It gets so bad that they have to be dragged to Gauis by some knights that found them passed out in the hallway.
Arthur and Merlin are more bothered by the curse than they would care to admit. They make a silent promise that they won’t leave the other alone for at least a week when it’s done.
as always, send me any fics that are like this

are you normal, or do you regularly think of how merlin spent more time mourning arthur than knowing him

Limiting the choice to the shows and movies I have seen/know of. I'm not asking who the first actor you have seem playing Arthur was, rather the one you instinctively think about when someone mentions him or the one closest to your heart.

arthur and the knights getting cursed so they can’t hold a weapon, fight, and can barely walk. clumsy x1000 blast. the cure is idk somewhere in the woods or with the druids or something idk idk don’t ask me. anyways they get ambushed and arthur and the knights cant fight so merlin is like “damn it” and pushes them all back and looks at arthur and is like
merlin: you can’t fight so i’m going to fight them.
arthur, stumbling over his own two feet even while merlin is pushing him up against a tree: you can’t fight
merlin: i can. i’m going to. what i need you to do is wait, alright? you’re going to be mad, i get that, but that’s going to have to wait until later. can you do that?
arthur: you can’t fight, merlin.
merlin, rolling his eyes: will you just listen to me for once? be mad later. appreciate that i’m saving your life right now.
merlin, leaving arthur to fall flat on his face, muttering under his breath: like always
and then woosh merlin saves their lives and is a bad ass sorcerer yippee gwaine is very turned on and so is arthur but he’s also definitely pissed while lancelot is so proud of his bestie (and a little turned on)

i think in a situation where arthur and gwen break up, merlin would be taking it way worse than the actual people breaking up

I believe Season 5 of Merlin, could have been improved simply by altering one variable; Arthur should have found out about Merlin's magic in the two part opener. I wouldn't have minded if he'd had the exact same reaction that he had in the finale, but at least then we'd have an entire season of him knowing the truth. It's not only about knowing Merlin's secret, I would have loved to see an entire season where Arthur played an active role in his destiny and was fully aware of what was to come. We saw four seasons of Merlin battling it alone, I would have liked a couple of episodes where they were battling it together.

Quote that reminds me of : Merlin
"If you knew what was going to happen, if you knew everything that was going to happen next—if you knew in advance the consequences of your own actions—you'd be doomed. You'd be ruined as God. You'd be a stone. You'd never eat or drink or laugh or get out of bed in the morning. You'd never love anyone, ever again. You'd never dare to."

Merlin rewatch -- S2E1: The Curse of Cornelius Sigan
Things I like
Clotpole! The reaction from all three was iconic. Merlin didn’t even know what he said. And I’m sure Cedric and Arthur had zero clue what a clotpole was either.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Merlin learned to read Arthur’s gestures!
Tumblr media
Merlin was so petty and instantly took it out on Cedric lol
Tumblr media
Bradley's incredulous face was used so much in this ep lol so many ridiculous things happened around Arthur.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Arthur looked genuinely happy when he asked who threw the spear. I liked that he never felt jealous or outshone when his knights (or servants I guess) did better than him.
Tumblr media
The face Merlin had after he received the magic was beautiful. The wide eyes. The epiphany. The breathy voice.
Tumblr media
I Love Sigan’s speech. The way the lines were delivered. Mackenzie Crook was brilliant.

You see that dude, sigan, who turned day into night? Well what if he never turned it back and Merlin had always feel that something was very wrong with daytime and nighttime. As if he should be awake at night and sleeping in the day you know.
Then one day he just figures it out and turns it back as it should be he thinks then he goes back to bed while Camelot (the whole world actually) is freaking the fuck out. Which would be hilarious post-magic reveal or not. Like imagine Arthur trying to wake up Merlin while the other mumbles "nothing is wrong, it's right again. I will take care of the tides tomorrow" "WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU WILL TAKE CARE OF THE TIDES TOMORROW?!?! MERLIN DON'T YOU DARE PUT A SILENCING SPELL AROUND YOU. MERLIN. MERLIN!!!"

Pain
It is nothing new that brigands are encountered when returning from the hunt, nor is it new to be attacked by a witch in the middle of the woods, much less is it new that Merlin sacrifices himself for Arthur by throwing himself between Arthur and the witch. What is new is that this time the blow was aimed precisely at Merlin and no one expected it. "You are a liar, Emrys, a liar who has turned his back on us and you will suffer for it"
And the witch disappears.
Arthur is at her side immediately and the knights search for the witch's rags but there is nothing they can do, she has disappeared.
"Why did she have it in for you? And who the hell is Emrys?"
"I don't know. She must have confused me with someone else."
The lie comes easy to him, as always, without even having to think about it, but an incredible pain spreads in his chest and prevents him from breathing for several seconds.
"Merlin! Merlin, are you all right?"
"Yes" more agonizing pain "No! No, I'm not good!" the pain disappears.
Merlin breathes, thinks back to the woman's words and a blind fear takes hold of him.
"Arthur…"
Arthur looks at him.
"You're a turnip-head"
Pain.
"I don't feel like joking right now, Merlin. Let us return to the castle at once and go to Gaius, we must understand what has happened to you."
Merlin cannot lie. And the curse, according to Gaius, can only get worse and cause more pain, even death. Apparently, only the truth can save Merlin, even if the truth can get him burnt at the stake.
