Was thinking about merlin and listening to mitski today and

Post revel where arthur reacts very well at merlins magic, unbans magic and merlin cant actually process that

Yeah, thats about "its just that i fell in love with a war, nobody told me it ended", he suffered too much to allow it to be this easy. Can u imagine? What do u mean arthur and the knights are laughing amused by him magically lighting the fire? It is a big deal.

Merlins saw many many sorcerers be cremated alive to be normal. He heard the screams and smelled the burned skin, the toasted meat.

I havent watched the shows in years but like, i guess he have a "privileged view" of the pire from his room too....... He thinks if uther did that on purpose, by giving gaius (the only sorcerer uther allowed to stay, in his conditions of course) this place of all in the castle...... Like a warning...

The only "mentors" merlin had where a dragon, that had been imprisoned for morethan 20 years. And a old man, that had been walking on eggs for more than 20 years too. They were shit at giving advices, yeah but. Its understandable at some point.

He has blood in his hands. Non sorcerer and sorcerer. Friends and enemies. Civilians. He released kilgharra. Fuck, he lied at the morgouse trials, about arthurs mother! Why is arthur ok w that? He think he is a traitor, of both his kind........

Bonus point if good mordred. Like, mordred adapting very well at the shift laws, and excited about doing magic in frnt of arthur and arthur liking it???? Merlin cant understand. He debated about killing this child.

bONUS BONUS POINT If merlin is struggling at doing magic in front of arthur and the knights, and arthurs doesn't know he is emrys the most powerful sorcerer to walk on earth aND YET IS SO AMUSED. Mordred becomes court sorcerer because arthur thinks merlin is not powerful and everything (in a worried way not in a disposed way). Merlin is not jealous, he doesn't care about titles, actually he do like his job, its just about the irony of the thing. Mordred is so so confused.

He does his job amazing, he uses magic and its okay at doing it. When no one is looking. If someone, thats not gaius, is looking, he hardly can do.

He cant do magic w arthurs watching.

Unless its a Arthur's life treating situation.

Its not that he is actually scared of arthur, its just that he simple cant. Theres even a tecnical term for this. Its like a emotional block, but w his magic. He cant control it. He has been under pressure for so long he cant just let go ya know.

Ok, its my post, i like mordred, im gonna put my thoughts here.

Au where mordred was the one who changes arthurs mind about magic. Like, arthur is watching mordred, the one he know has magic and is a druid and asks him if he stills do magic and mordred thinks and chooses honesty and says "to make a fire when noone is looking" or some non harmful thing. And Arthur is like "a sorcerer can be a Knight, im shifting the law". And he shift the law and Merlin is like, was is that easy? *Mental breakdown * meltdown *burnout*

The thing is: it wasn't just because of mordred, like, Arthur's kingdom has been kind w the sorcerers already, not having burned a lot and no one in mordred presence, because arthur is a kind king.

And th thing is how mordred and merlin lived different lifes while in camelot, ya know. Even through mordred has heard stories and lost friends and family to camelots fire, Merlin lived in it.

Merlin, he is extremely suspicious about mordred coming out as sorcerer to arthur (because he is suspicious of mordred), he thinks maybe its a trick, to bring evil sorcerers to kill arthur, something, he even debates w arthur if shifting thelaw is the right choice. He feels awful about his position, but he cant process that everything is alright, he is so suspicious about everything and so scared arthur might put himself in danger.

He tells arthur he has magic after he lift the ban. Arthur is so confused because of merlins position about the law, but he is fine w merlin. And merlin islike "im gonna to protect u i promise, im super powerful", of course he cant prove he is powerful because this whole post.

An AU where Merlin is literally a God in Mordred’s eyes. Like, a genuine God.

In this AU Mordred and Merlin’s relationship is not fucked up by prophecy. So, everytime, kindhearted Merlin saved Mordred without hesitation. And Mordred grew up in a Druid camp that reinforced the idea that Emrys was a literal god. So naturally, HE WORSHIPPED MERLIN.

Once Arthur became king and magic was legalised, Mordred came to Camelot to become a knight because that was the best way to serve Emrys.

But when he arrived at Camelot, he struggled to comprehend the fact that Merlin was… human???? A very clumsy one, in fact. The rest of Camelot, though might know about Merlin magic, did not know how great ‘Emrys’ actually was so they were just confused, concerned, and/or entertained by Mordred’s ‘crush’ on Merlin.

He would stare at Merlin the entire first meal they had together, and people would be like: awww, Sir Mordred is crushing on Merlin so hard!!

Mordred: Emrys??eats??food?Food??Is ?eaten?by? Emrys?emrys?consumes?meal????

Or when he saw Merlin tripped on the training field

Mordred: i think the area is cursed. Strongly cursed.

Leon: what—

Mordred: THEN WHY ELSE WOULD EMRYS TRIPPED?????

I think Merlin would be cautious around Mordred, since he becomes very paranoid and colder during the later seasons. Perhaps Mordred brings some of the older Merlin back (for the merdred).

Merlin wouldn’t want Mordred around Arthur, not just because paranoia, but because he can’t bear to see someone else be killed for magic. By keeping him away it reduces the chance of him being found out. Merlin in my head has lived in a magic fearing community all of his life (both in Ealdor and Camelot), so he has a lot of trauma and has learnt to keep himself hidden. This is hard to overcome.

I think Mordred would be the more optimistic of the two. Merlin, though he does believe in destiny, I think he starts to lose faith that it would ever happen. Maybe mordred is the one to reveal his Druid nature to Arthur, Merlin being scared clutching a jug but ready to defend if necessary. Protective merlin. Merlin knows Arthur wouldn’t hurt Mordred, but he knows Arthur will regret it if he said anything to hurt the young knight. Overall Merlin has been hiding for too long to flip a switch and suddenly be ok with a lot of people knowing he has magic.

Mordred helps Merlin connect more with magic, years of self suppression difficult to overcome. Maybe after Arthur learns of his magic but Merlin still doesn’t use it making Arthur/knights question how powerful Merlin presumably is. Mordred doesn’t like this, makes them know how much merlin has done for all of them. If lance still alive au, Lancelot is very proud to welcome Mordred into the Merlin protection squad.

Early on Mordred is still worship-y about Emrys, this makes merlin very uncomfortable. So Merlin is distant with him about this as well. Eventually Mordred sees Merlin as a man who has the burden of destiny on his shoulders.

I think Merlin would give in and start going into the woods or abandoned room in castle or even the dragon cave to start practicing, this makes Merlin start to remember a time when he did magic for the joy of it. Not to protect, not to kill, not for destiny.

Maybe a grand magic reveal, merlin being a bamf. Mordred and the knights blushing messes at the show of power, and Mordred realising that holy shit he is Emrys. But realising that he is also just Merlin.

If the prophecy is still a thing that they don’t know about, that would definitely be a tension if they later find out after they become friends. I think Merlin would start building those walls again, Mordred trying desperately to get him to stop. But Merlin is just trying to protect himself. Maybe they discuss it, and Mordred shows how he wasn’t solely responsible for Morgana even if he did play a role. And that there were different points destiny could of changed. That destiny is not set in stone. This would also have Merlin spiralling into a whole “will Arthur ever play his part in the destiny I’ve been holding for us”. Answer either “I do not know” or “Your destiny is stronger as it has been told unchanged for far longer than any other”.

There was this one fic I read that had Merlin talk to Mordred about losing his own love to Arthur’s hand, and talks about Freya. It doesn’t get rid of the pain but it helps Mordred see he is not so alone and also of he sacrifice Merlin has already made. Merlin also talks of the prophecy, he does it to try to curb the prophecy.

Overall I think it would take Merlin a while to take his walls down, especially if this is set in a time where Lancelot still dies.

I always see people discussing the prophecies in Merlin about Morgana and the one about Mordred.

But now, what if [specifically right now] the prophecy about Mordred does not exist?

Or if it does exist, what if Merlin did not know about it and never found out?

What do you think could have changed?

What would have happened?

And for my Merdred shippers, what if the tension between them was this time not because of the prophecy?

These are sketches about a story I’ve been imagine; a Modern Fantasy AU where Merlín enter to a virtual world called Albion, inspired by the movie Belle and the dragon 🌸✨

This is the place where Merlin awakens as Emrys, the most powerful avatar and whose arrival had been prophesied.”

HC/ but honestly, I don't believe Merlin despises Mordred.

Merlin's life would have been a lot easier if he truly hates Mordred. Yes, he desires his death. But every time he looks at Mordred, he sees an ally who also wishes for a golden age where magic can rise, a knight who has the king and Camelot's best interests at heart, a young man who also has a lot of love within him and desires to be loved and trusted back.

But he also sees the boy whose eyes burned with rage and once promised ‘I shall never forgive this, Emrys, and I shall never forget’. He sees Arthur's murderer. He sees Mordred failing him one day.

Then he realises that he failed Mordred first. He failed Mordred numerous times. The kid worshiped him, but Merlin has repeatedly chosen Mordred's death over any other choice. And if the opportunity to kill Mordred arrives again, he would take it. He is responsible for sowing the seed of hatred in Mordred's heart. If there is anyone who is becoming the Murderer, it is Merlin.

Merlin wants to hate Mordred, he needs to hate Mordred, but he could not.

And if I may go on, I would argue that he wants to love Mordred normally, in the same way that he loves the knights, Gwen and other people he has met. Merlin has so much love to give, he would have loved his own murderer.

But no, he cannot love someone whose death he likes to see happen; he could not love someone who will kill Arthur.

So he is left with nothing to feel but regret, fear, and finally a pathetic attempt at indifference.
