Digi Dynamic Shipping Game
Send me two names among the following 12 and I’ll write a short analysis post about them:
Taichi Yagami | Yamato Ishida | Sora Takenouchi | Koushirou Izumi | Mimi Tachikawa | Jyou Kidou | Takeru Takaishi | Hikari Yagami | Daisuke Motomiya | Miyako Inoue | Iori Hida | Ken Ichijouji
Whether canon provides input on them or not.
Boy, do I love to refer back to "Butterfly" and how it basically framed Taichi as the male main character and Sora as the female main character throughout. One might argue that this is a combination that has been occurring in quite a lot of anime - particularly kids and Shounen related - back in the 90s and early 2000s, so... Asking whether or not canon provides input on them is like asking if water is wet. They've known each other since elementary school, have been in the same class ever since (and will continue to be classmates until graduation) and even attended the same football club for a while. They start the series as "almost telepathically connected" football club duo (basically a novel quote right here), adventurous and hands-on plot drivers, the courageous leader and the tomboyish but caring voice of reason right by his side. You instantly get the impression that they are familiar and close with each other and it's a theme that continues throughout the entire first season; not only because they consistently jump into action and call out, care for and protect each other, but because they, their bond, their loyalty and development are basically responsible for the fact that the kids get through everything alive in the end.
Trying to describe the extent and depth of their relationship would probably end with me writing a whole novel, so I will try to keep this brief, because... You know them. Similarly to Taito, Koumi and Takari, Taiora has been a staple in the shipping scene ever since the conception of Digimon Adventure back in 1999 - and for good reason. As mentioned, there used to be - and still is - a trope to pair up the main boy and main girl with one another and this case is no exception, considering how well they play off of each other, supporting and saving each other time and time again. Digimon Adventure is a special series though - a series whose creators intended to break through tropes and stereotypes, turning those on the head whenever possible. So while Taichi's and Sora's bond may be so significant that the idea of them ending up together seems inherently plausible - this is not how their story ends.
The tomboy, who struggles with her sense of femininity and identity, cannot deal with her best friend gifting her a hairclip - and while they seem thoroughly devoted to and on each other's minds, they develop in different directions. There is a theme of miscommunication between them as they grow older, little quarrels here and there - but at the same time, there is still an incredible sense of mutual fondness and protectiveness that, despite a growing physical distance, never completely vanishes. "If you love someone, let them go", is a quote that may come to mind when you take a look at the screenshot above and are aware of its context. Whether that kind of love was romantic or platonic at this point? We may never know.
This is the story of two close long-term friends, who were not meant to be together - wrong time, wrong place.
... Which doesn't mean that there isn't a potential "right time", right...?
Whether I think why and how they’d work.
What I mentioned above seems to be somewhat cryptic and what I'm about to outline may or may not break canon to a certain degree, but HEAR ME OUT.
While this headcanon is, for now, nothing more than a headcanon, but I am a big supporter of @dutchforstrangers' interpretation of the epilogue, leading to the idea that Yamato and Sora might not remain together/married. This post is not meant to be Sorato slander in any way and I will not go into detail here as to why I think this is a valid headcanon - just know that there are a few subtext aspects in regards to their behavioural patterns and body languages that leave room for speculation. And that's all there is to it: SPECULATION!
The point I am trying to make here is, once again, that Taichi and Sora may not have been ready to be in a relationship early in life - because they first had to come to terms with themselves, their real dreams, aspirations and needs. They had to become comfortable with themselves (particularly after the loss of their Digimon partners) to bridge the (physical and emotional) distance that had festered between them through the years. Because if you think about it, due to their underlying insecurities, they both chose the same approach in their early twenties: Isolating themselves from the rest of their friend group. And I feel like they both have to come to the conclusion first that this is a state that could never bring them long-lasting happiness. They're both social beings that shrivel when they're left alone for too long. (They may also need the encouragement of their friends - particularly Mimi, Koushirou and Hikari - to get there though.)
So it may take a while, weeks, months, maybe even years, to reconcile, step by step. Rekindling their bond, making up their minds about their true passions and career paths, rediscovering old and finding new hobbies and similarities along the way; whether it's about their shared love for their friends, football, adventurous and sporty activities, probably therapy???, whatever it may be... Until they'd reunite with their partners and, with a gleeful but weary smile on their faces, realize that they just had to grow up to this point to eventually find each other as well.
Whether I’d prefer them as platonic or romantic ship.
In case the way I've been talking about them hasn't made it obvious yet - I do love Taiora a lot. While I hadn't started actively shipping Digimon characters until I started watching Tamers, I always had an incredible soft spot for them and up to this day, Taichi and Sora are my second favourite choice for each other. You could say that, in every possible universe in which Taich doesn't end up with Koushirou, he WOULD end up with Sora if I had anything to say. It's also no secret that Taikoura is my absolute favourite OT3 and I really think they COULD work out beautifully together. In the end, both romantic and platonic Taiora is absolutely beautiful to me - especially because it brought some very special, wonderful people into my life. Long story short: As long as their closeness persists in any way, shape or form, I'll be happy.
I also still maintain that the reboot timeline could potentially go there, but I will not get my hopes up... Yet.

Monster Replays The Truthful Route: Prologue
Warning: Spoilers for Digimon Survive under the cut. Read at your own risk.
In case you're not familiar with this blog, I've recently finished the Harmony route of Digimon Survive, meaning that I've played every route. I didn't want my final playthrough to over half the cast dead, so I've decided to replay the Truthful route, fully knowing what happens.
Thoughts:
The art for Gabumon and Renamon's first appearance honestly look very cool, especially Gabumon.
I find it funny how in the flashback, Haru and Miyuki are just referred to as 'Boy' and 'Girl'. With other characters, they either have a '???' or a word that describes them (e.g. 'Spirited Boy'), but with these two, their just 'Boy' and 'Girl', even after they refer to each other as their actual names. LMFAO
I love the animated short at the beginning. If I didn't know any better, I'd think it would be a trailer for an actual anime.
Saki: Wow, you're such a charmer. No wonder all the girls love you.
Ryo: Oh, shut up.
Lmao, I love these two.
Miyuki's singing is very, very pretty.
I'm genuinely curious if the school Takuma and co. camp at is based on a real place.
I imagine Shuuji's lines being dubbed over by SammyClassicSonicFan.
Something I didn't notice before is that Takuma mentions that Shuuji is an alumnus of Aoi's school.
Saki: Clearly you're not the type to be left to your own devices.
If you really think about it, this kinda feels like foreshadowing.
I'll never get tired of Ryo and Saki's dynamic.
Lesbian much, Aoi?
Aoi: All of us need to work together
Me: Okay, as long as you don't try to absorb the entire goddamn planet for the sake of Harmony™.
I love the way Miu's voice actress delivers her lines. It definitely feels like Miu's exaggerating and being super dramatic.
I love how Kaito's description of Miu is just completely inaccurate. At the same time, it also kinda hurts, especially after playing the Harmony route.
*it starts snowing* What is this, Digimon Adventure?
Can't believe there was a period in my life where I thought getting Harmony karma was a GOOD thing.
Minoru: The ones that worship the lewd stuff are the best!
Ah, so it appears that Minoru and I share a braincell *shot*
Honestly, it took me a while to notice that the Professor was wearing glasses in the prologue, but then lost them in the Kemonogami World.
I like how Shuuji's just randomly staring at a stone wall. Not even the mural, just a stone wall.
THE PROFESSOR SAID AGUMON! W00T!
Aoi: A pervert? On a MOUNTAIN?!
Of course, everybody knows that perverts can be found anywhere except in high altitudes!
Ryo's dialogue: Oh jeez, oh boy...
Ryo's voice: uwrraarAH!
The intro is very, very pretty. Plus, it definitely fits the vibe of the game well.
Takuma: *says bingo ONCE*
Me: Miyako Inoue? Is that you?
KOROMON WHY ARE YOU SO PRECIOUS
Takuma: My point is that I'm not a kid!
Koromon: Why not?! You seem to be pretty childish to me!
BUUURRRRRNNN
What's funny about NG+, especially early on in the game is that while most of the enemies are Rookie or Champion level, I can just evolve straight to Mega and oneshot everybody. It's especially funny if it's after the Kemonogami just evolved in the cutscene before the fight lol
I love how Takuma and Agumon share -2 braincells lmao
Takuma says that he and the others probably accidentally broke a seal on the shrine that released the Kemonogami. While that's obviously not what really happened, I still think that'd make for a good premise for a Digimon story, whether an anime or a video game.
This concludes my thoughts on the prologue, and onto Part 1 I go!

"Vibes" - A Daiyako drabble by zuzsenpai
Title: Vibes
Rating: M
Pairing: Daisuke Motomiiya/Miyako Inoue
Summary: He thinks about her. She touches him.
Tags: romance, rated M for mentions of sexual content
You can also read this fic under the cut:
______________
So he had a dream about the person sitting next to him. Big whoop. Dreams happened all the time, every night in fact. Maybe not necessarily dreams about her, but like… something something statistically speaking, something something they spent a lot of time together… you get the drift. He tried incredibly hard to make sure he didn’t think about that dream as the day progressed, which had been a simple task when she wasn’t around.
Until suddenly he was sitting next to her. Suddenly a vivid image floated to the front of his brain— a vision of that glossy hair splayed out on the pillow, the rich color complementing her pleasure-flushed face beautifully.
Oh, did he mention it was a sex dream? Because it was a sex dream.
She laughed easily with him as they sat shoulder-to-shoulder on the same side of the picnic bench. She had absolutely no idea what his dirty mind was up to right now, and honestly he was kind of embarrassed about it. This woman— his friend who he’d been to hell and back with when they were kids— didn’t deserve to be treated in such a gross way.
Not that he’d treated her poorly when he was fucking her. You know, in the dream. He’d been a true gentleman, whispering gently in her ear and letting her control the pace. The whole thing was very sweet for a sex dream. And now the only thought that kept bouncing off the walls of his brain was: “would that be how we do it in real life?”
Their friendship was chaotic and messy and loud, just like each of them individually, only amplified when together. He’d always assumed sex between them would be a wildfire just like they were. That any gentle, tentative touches would quickly morph into frantic, heated passion. That he’d wake up the next morning with scratches down his back.
Wait— always assumed? Okay yeah, he’d thought about it before. So sue him.
She casually leaned into him to get a better view of the person on her other side, and the warmth of her upper arm shook him out of his lust-filled curiosities. He didn’t move away or make an annoyed remark like he usually did. Instead, he just listened to her voice for a while. Had it always sounded this melodic?
Someone made a joke and he felt her shake with laughter. The sound, the sensation, made his heart swell. But the realization that she wasn’t laughing at something he said quickly squeezed his heart back down to size. There wasn’t much he could do about that— whatever the conversation was, he hadn’t been listening to a word of it. Her presence was too distracting.
A hand on his thigh informed him that his leg had been bouncing. The hand stayed— she probably wanted to stop him from shaking the whole picnic table.
What would it be like if we were dating? The sudden thought burst through to the front of his mind. The idea made his pulse race. Sex was one thing, but dating involved a set of feelings he hadn’t considered before. Would she want to hold my hand in public? Would she slip her hand onto his thigh for fun, instead of merely to still his restless leg?
In the waking world, her palm slid down to his knee. His cheeks warmed.
Conversation at the table lulled, which was usually his cue to start a new one. With dating on his mind, he asked the group if they had any hot gossip about the friends who weren’t sitting with them. The way he asked must have been abrupt and hilarious, because his friend turned to him and chuckled, resting her forehead on his shoulder.
He heard the word “dumbass” mumbled into the sleeve of his jacket.
There had always existed an unspoken rule between the two of them: That if one said a stupid thing, the other would immediately do something to call out their friend’s idiocy. Whether that meant poking, shaking, gently shoving, or just laughing and rolling their eyes, they seemed to have invented a never-ending call and response game. Her current touch was consistent with that. Sort of. The weight of her head shifted until her temple met his shoulder.
Carefully, he reached over and brushed a piece of hair out of her eyes. Their gazes met long enough to properly appreciate each other’s toothy grins. Reflected in her glasses was a beautiful sunset, but his eyes were glued to her lips. A mistake on his part, really. Because memories of how red and love-bitten her lips had been in his dream came flooding back.
She cocked an eyebrow, but his attention stayed a few inches too low to notice.
The digital sun fell beneath the horizon and someone— probably Agumon— started a campfire. Good, he thought. One by one, their friends left the table to get closer to the flames. I don’t want August 1st to end just yet. Not when her eyelids were drooping and her arm snaked around his back for support. Eventually they were the only two left at the table.
This is totally what it would look like if we were a couple. If everyone here didn’t already know us, that’s what they’d think, right?
Of all the thoughts he’d had today— romantic, sexual, or otherwise— this was the one to send excited chills down his spine. Or maybe it was his friend’s thumb rubbing circles against the small of his back. Who could say?
She lifted her head when he shivered again. “You cold?”
“Dude, it’s August,” he breathed, his volume significantly lower than usual. Only she was allowed to hear his voice like this. Though maybe calling her ‘dude’ killed the mood a little.
“Summer in Japan has nothing to do with the weather here,” she responded flatly.
“Then are you cold?”
She didn’t answer right away, so he took the opportunity to wrap his arm around his friend until they were practically hugging. Finally she asked, “Why are you giving off a vibe?”
“Huh?” he blinked. “Like what kinda vibe?” There’s no way she can read my thoughts, there’s no fuckin way…
“Like a dazed vibe. I dunno.”
“Is ‘dazed’ a vibe? I thought it was more like a mood,” he pointed out. “Are my ‘dazed vibes’ the reason you’re not leaving me alone to go sit with the others?” The moment the words left his mouth, he wished they hadn’t. Why did he have to say something that sounded like he wanted her to go away?
But apparently his ‘vibes’ must have been giving off a completely different, er, vibe, because he heard— and felt— a tiny bubble of laughter. “Honestly I’m kind of surprised you haven’t shoved me away by now.”
“I wouldn’t do that! You’re the one who’s always shoving me, man!” he exclaimed, his previously smooth, chill voice be damned. From over by the fire, someone (probably that blond asshole) snorted with laughter. He shot the guy a choice finger, just in case.
“Oh good, he’s back.” When she spoke, her voice sounded unusually close to his ear.
“Who’s back?”
“The totally unsexy guy who doesn’t understand volume control.”
“Oh.”
…
“Wait!”
“Owww! Didn’t I just tell you to lower your volume?”
His heart was in his throat. “No… you just told me my loud voice was ‘unsexy’.”
“And that wasn’t an indicator that you should shut up?”
“It’s… an indicator that you thought I was sexy before that.” Who said he was an oblivious dumbass? Those people were wrong as hell.
“Um.” She was still so close that he could hear her swallow nervously. “Yeah I mean, like I said, you were giving off a vibe.”
“A sexy vibe?”
She took a long, deep breath through her nose, then shifted against him. “Is that weird?”
“Is what weird?” his face felt like a five-alarm fire, but it was nothing compared to how red hers was. Or at least from what he could see of it at this odd angle, with her cheek still pressed against his shoulder.
“That I… picked up on your sexy vibes?”
“It’s all good. If it was anyone else but me, this might be embarrassing for you,” he told her. The ends of her hair tickled his knuckles as he brushed his fingers through her long, purple locks.
“Yeah right, idiot,” even the sound of her indignant snort had him losing his mind with desire. He realized now what had been missing from his dream last night— her laughter. “You’re the one who couldn’t stop staring at my lips for some reason.”
His tongue darted out involuntarily to lick his own lips. She probably noticed. He didn’t care.
“You wanna hear something that’s actually weird?”
“Always.” He wanted to hear everything she had to say. The weird, the wonderful, the gloomy, the overly enthusiastic, the mundane…
Her lips brushed his ear as she drew in a shaky breath. “I had a dream about you last night.”

"Well, I tried at least," he chuckled.
Oh was Miyako having any problem before...? He did remember she complaining about timezones and her studies bugging her sleep. Inoue Miyako had been living a very busy life of studying aboard in many different countries and also handling the Chosen Children Network. Plus, coming to visit her friends because she had alleged to be checking on them (Ken knows it was her trying to sound cool and not admit she was 'missing her friends', which is still funny but he doesn't get why she can't admit it nowadays)
(Hawkmon definitely mentioned she was 'missing someone' though...)
"I bet she is," Ken answered calmly, "But I do see her point."
Daisuke always cared about them all, right? It's not unusual of him simply butting in and try to help them. This group's bonds are very strong and they go beyond the 'digimon business' partnership. They are real friends for an eternity after all.
"I do heard from Takeru-kun and Hikari-chan that you once were babysitting a swarm of Punimon back in the day. You're a natural motherly-type."
It doesn't matter which role is. Daisuke is really good at taking care of people, period.
"Because I trust you!" He smiled so earnestly it was enough to raise the question if he'd even processed he was being teased.
"Ehhh, but if its when you have free time, that's gonna be like, a million years from now." He pouted for under half a second before beaming again, too full of joy to fake it for very long. "But I'll forgive you as long as you don't forget about me in the meantime!"
He looked around for a few seconds to force his next train of thought.
"Is Miyako sleeping better now? Last week when I tried to give her mom's herbal tea recipe, she called me a mother hen and chased me off!" If there was one thing that the two still fought over, it was Daisuke being a busybody. And every time, Daisuke used Ken as a middleman to *continue* fussing over her.

Taichi x Mimi Headcanons
Author Note: Is it named Michi or Taimi? I honestly have no clue, although I tend to call it the first way, uhm... Anyway, some might wonder why am I writting this when I have previously defended the Koumi/Mishiro. Well, I am a multishipper, duh. Izzy used to be my only paring option for Mimi when I was little. However, during my teenage years, I started to read a lot of fanfics and discovered the Taichi x Mimi. I think it is a super easy pairing, so positive and refreshing. They have great poly potential too. If I don`t support the Tai x Mimi x Koushiro triangle is only because I belive poor Izzy couldn't handle it haha
Getting onto the topic, I am going to list some facts first. Not because I think canon is the most important thing when talking about ships because, I mean, is clearly not, specially when we have a series like Adventure which doesn´t revolve around romance. Still, it helps to explain how I interpret the connection between them.
Along with Kourshiro, Taichi blushes mad red when he accidentally sees Mimi naked. Later on, when the digidestined separate, Taichi and Jyou are the ones who take the Purity digidestined back to the gang. Finally, the movies state she sends Tai postcards when on vacation.
I don`t think it is a coincidence that these three boys I have mentioned are the ones I can totally ship with Mimi when it comes to straight pairings. The point is that some characters spending more time together is not random, there is an intentionality behind it. With those little examples, I can sense the creators had at least a slight interest on exploring the bond between Tai and Mimi. For the sake of comparison, let me briefly talk about Matt x Mimi. Yamato and her almost didn`t talk during the first season. I do not recall an episode were they team up for a relevant fight. Therefore, I believe they never planned any type of relationship for those two. It is never emphatised, not even in 02 or Tri. Is almost as if Mimi and Yamato are just together due to mutual friends. (Not saying people can`t ship Mimato, I am just refering to the basis we are oficially given. Which, I once again repeat, is not of crucial importance for fandom activity).
Anyways, back to Taichi and Mimi, with their attractive physical appearance and some common personality traits, I get the feeling that it wouldn't be difficult for them to develop a romantic interest in each other.
* Characteristics I believe these two share: Both are extroverts and love being surrounded by people, having no problem with becoming the center of attention. They get bored almost immediately, so their need for constant activity is strong. Another reason for them to be active is because loneliness sparks hints of melancholy and some forced instrospection they really want to avoid. Tai and Mimi have always been straightforward kids that stay true to who they are, even as years go by. They also tend to speak before thinking and sometimes mess up in due it, but always make up for it afterwards. Finally, they are funny ones, most likely to be joking around or propose to play some kind of game that makes the others a bit uneasy.
Now properly getting onto headcanon territory...
Their friendship is as based on a mutual admiration that is never verbally addressed as it is on constantly poking and disrespecting one another. In that context, the sexual tension is likely to grow. Honestly, I believe the Michi would start off as a one night stand. Then, they would get addicted to it, deciding to keep their relation a secret because they don't want to over-complicate it by getting their friends involved and having to justify what it is / what is not. Or maybe the not telling would be a subconscious way to convince themselves that what`s going on is not serious at all and they have the situation totally under control.
Important note: Wether it is more than a `friends with benefit´ thing and how it evolves depends on too many specific circumstances that I am not going to write about in this post.
Mimi goes to Taichi`s every single football match, cheerleader mode and his teammates always make some kind of remark about it.
Our boy tries to introduce Mimi to the world of sports. She spends the day complaining when he obliges her to do any physical activity which doesn't involve music. Afterwards she feels good about herself for being able to keep up with him. When they put any sport on TV Mimi comments about the attractiveness of players and this gets on Tai`s nerves: You have to watch it for the game! - But the game is sooo boring...
Mimi helps Tai improve his English skills.
Tai knows he has to randomly buy flowers and take her to the cinema in order to see a romantic movie every Valentine`s Day.
Sometimes, instead of bouquets, Taichi buys Mimi seeds and sow and take care of them together, changing the plant to another pot when it grows.
%1000 a party couple.
Going to SPAs is their favourite couple treat.
Absolutely love sleeping together despite how dangerous it is. None of them wants to wake up and leave the bed next morning. If they decide to spend the night together and don`t have the pressure of being discovered, chances are they are going to run late.
Mimi loves to cuddle and Tai always tries to turn it into something more passionate than mere caressing. She rolls her eyes in false exasperation.
Super sexually active. Definitely have a kink for doing it in public places.
This is a couple that argues quite a lot, but they are never violent fights, just heated discussions because they get mad about the most absurd things and are not able to stop or take some time off.
Both are smart mouths who want to have the last word.
Silent treatment follows.
They eventually make peaces and go back to normal.
In interaction with the other digidestined...
Hikari is the first one to discover they have a thing going on.
If Mimi and Tai get involved when they are teenagers, this would be a mere consequence of sharing household. Hikari walking into them while they are making out is just a matter of time in this scennario.
The affair happening as adults, with Taichi being away in college or already having his own place; would still not be enough to prevent it. Knowing what a huge mess her son is, Ms. Yagami/Kamiya would probably sent Hikari to check on him frequently. Or it could simply be that Kari wants to give his big brother a surprise visit. At her arrival, she would find a `lacking a considerable amount of clothes´ Mimi there. Cute Kari is naive but not that much. The attempts Tai would make to deny it would be totally in vain. His little sister has them busted.
The rest would notice it after seeing them dancing together at a club, literally devouring each other.
Sora: Wow... that`s so sexy... Yamato: -.-? Excuse me? Sora: You don`t look at me like that anymore. Yamato: Are you fucking kiding me? (I am making this lead to an orgy and you all know it. LOL)
Not sure about how Koushiro and Jyou would react to this. I do think both guys have had feelings for Mimi at some point, however, I don`t feel like getting into angsty drama, so let`s say they just feel a bit uneasy due to how indiscreet Tai and her are.
Once the whole digidestined gang is aware of the situation, Tai and Mimi turn into a couple with too much PDA literally all the time, to the point it becomes kinda exhausting for most people around them.
Hikari be like: Okey, enough now.
I can see them hanging out with Daisuke and Miyako a lot.
Yamato gets the worst part out of this relationship because Mimi and Tai`s favourite couple activity is to annoy him.
Sora sometimes deliberately ignores their messages because, given that Mimi is her best girl friend and Taichi her best boy friend, when they have an argument, she ends up with millions of voice recordings about it from each of them.
At first she used to worry and try to help them solve the matter, withouth taking sides in spite of both trying to win her over. An almost impossible task.
(Mimi and Tai would totally be the type of people who always think you are defending the other part even if what you say is a completely neutro and objective fact).
Sora eventually learnt most Michi fights are nothing, at least if nobody else revives the flame that started all. That`s how she decided that the best was to take some distance and let them deal with it on their own. Unless it is something truly important, of course.

Quote
The only [one/Digimon Adventures character] with a set birthday is Miyako [Yolei, who is zodiac sign Gemini]. The other characters don’t have set birthdays.
Hiroyuki Kakudou, Director/Head Writer of Digimon Adventures + 02 on the Chosen Childrens’ lack of official birthdays.
(Old post, original commentary + theorizing under ‘read more’)
* Friendly reminder the Japanese school year begins in April and ends in the following years’ March. Do not calculate this timeline like you would a U.S. school year. Japan =/= America, and this is a Japanese anime set in Japan where the characters all have clear Japanese names. DO NOT CALCULATE THIS TIMELINE OR AGES LIKE YOU WOULD A SCHOOL YEAR IN THE UNITED STATES OR OTHER WESTERN COUNTRIES. * Friendly reminder 02 begins at THE BEGINNING OF APRIL when the school year has just started. - Miyako is later seen talking about her Gemini birthday with her siblings in the original Japanese version of 02. - Gemini occurs between about May 21 and June 21. - Therefore, Miyako’s birthday would be around May 21 and June 21. - Miyako is officially 12 in 02, but because of this, it’s much more likely she started her school year at age 11, due to aging right after the school year begins (April -> May).
* Friendly reminder that Iori Hida begins the series at 9 years old (officially, he is always listed as 9). However, he too has no set birthday. - 02 ends in December, which is clearly stated and seen in-show in the original Japanese version, with exact dates listed. (see: World Tour arc and after. It is already December by World Tour arc.)
- Iori is always two years apart from Daisuke, Ken, Hikari and Takeru exactly when going by official ages. - Daisuke and Iori had 7 [Daisuke] and 5 [Iori] years in Vamdemon’s Arc. If putting together a timeline for them that actually makes a decent amount of sense, Their birthdays should be after August 3rd to December 31st. So, you should put away dates from January 1st to Agusust 3rd. - We know this because of another official scan linked above, where Iori is clearly listed at 5 during Vamdemon arc, and Daisuke at 7. Around two years apart in all instances, and no more. - This also matches their grades, as Iori is in 3rd grade while Daisuke is 5th, two grades apart. - This means Iori would have likely aged to 10 by the time 02 has ended, putting him even closer in age to the 02 group (with LESS THAN TWO YEARS between him, Daisuke, Takeru, Hikari, Ken, and even Miyako, who would be 12 by the end of 02).
* Friendly reminder that the characters were basically just starting school at the start of 02. This includes all characters seen in 02, including Jun Motomiya, who also has no set birthday, and is seen very early on in Episode 04, when it would have still been APRIL. * THIS MEANS Jun could very well chronologically be much closer to 16 than she is 17. Even if she had just turned 17 somehow, it would be newly turned 17. LIKE THE 1ST WEEK OF APRIL. * It’s incredibly unlikely literally all of the characters have birthdays in the last week of March through to the 1st week of April alone.
* Friendly reminder that Ken literally has a scene where it’s discussed you can’t skip grades in Japan (as of that point of the series, 2002). - this means Jun obviously wouldn’t have as well. - especially considering Jun’s intelligence in comparison to KEN’S. - this would also be the case for literally all of the other characters, as even Koushiro mentions similar to Taichi in “Our War Game” about how someone in America had skipped grades, and expressed surprise at that.
* Friendly reminder that it’s possible that Jou could be considered on the younger end of his school year according to the Novels. And even if the Novels are set in a different continuity - Though he was given the age of 12 in Adventure (where the younger end of the school year, or January 1st - April 1st, would have placed him at 11) and 15 in 02 (where the younger end would place him at 14), in Tri he is confirmed 18 at start (when the younger end would have placed him AT 18 instead of 19). * THE NOVELS DIRECTLY CONFIRM JOU AT 11 despite his official age in Adventure (12). * If following the “younger end” pattern, this means Jou also would have been closer to 14 in 02, if not outright 14 when going by chronological timeline hintings.
from the novels: “Anyway, Jou,” Yamato said. The reason he didn’t add honorifics to Jou’s name was because he thought they were in the same grade. “Has the snowstorm passed?” - from here
In all ELEVEN years of his life, Jou could honestly swear that he had never dealt with anything as utterly and inexplicably bizarre as this. A strange animal that looked like an experiment between a seal and a sea horse gone wrong was chasing after him. In a mischievous voice, they cried out, “Jooou!” as they floated in the air. - also from the very first chapter. (note the directly stated “eleven”)
* Friendly reminder that Taichi, Yamato, and Sora are nearly always and particularly shown as the same ages. In this scan for example, they’re all listed as 7 years old when their younger forms are seen. - This is very much despite “Our War Game” and Sora’s supposed “birthday” (refer to the quote by Kakudou re: birthdays). - In the official Tri profiles, they’re all listed clearly as 17 as well, implied to be at the very start of the show. - “ Taichi Yagami, 17, high school days ” is literally stated during the very 1st Tri announcements and also in official summaries. - If Taichi, Yamato, and Sora all begin tri at 17, they’d likely be aging to 18 throughout the school year. - If Taichi, Yamato, and Sora all begin 02 at 14, the same happens here; they’d be closer to 15 by end of 02, likely earlier on. - This is especially the case re: Taichi (”17, high school days” in Tri - remember this is supposedly CLOSER TO THE START.) - This is likely also the case re: Yamato, who at the very least is implied to be older than Sora if going by “Our War Game” despite its own issues when it comes to timeline inconsistencies and Sora’s “birthday”. Even if her birthday occured a bit later on in March, Yamato would likely still be older. - Jun Motomiya also is only 2 grades higher than them (11th grade in 02, Taiorato are 9th), and only 1 grade higher than Jou. She is just starting 11th grade in 02. - In the same scan, Jou is shown to be only one year older than Taichi, Yamato, and Sora, not two, which also matches up with his given Tri age. - Koushiro and Mimi are usually seen around the same age, exactly one year less than Taichi, Yamato, and Sora always in all instances of their official ages and age ranges being shown. Neither have set birthdays. - Maybe relevant to Koushiro’s possible age/birthday range, but in the Japanese version of Adventure, Mrs izumi states to Koushiro, “ Twelve years ago, [your real father] married your real mother and they had you. ” - Koushiro’s canonical age is 10, but he too has no set birthday. * Friendly reminder that Meiko is canonically in the same school grade as Taichi, Yamato, and Sora, and likely around the same age:
Q: How long have Meiko and Meikoomon been partners? A: Meiko’s digivice are the same model as Taichi and party’s, and she’s also the same age as them… based on that, I’m sure we can theorize that they’ve been partners for about the same amount of time.
Though she hangs out around Mimi a lot during after-school activities, She is seen in Taichi’s class in Saikai/Ketsui. Taichi + Yamato + Sora are a grade higher than Mimi + Koushiro.
* Friendly reminder Takeru and Hikari are the same age. - In Tri they’re both 14, but still have no set birthdays. - Takeru particularly never had his age in Adventure confirmed despite the rest, so he could have easily started his grade a bit earlier (i.e. 7 instead of 8 in Adventure’s start, 10 instead of 11 in 02.) - Hikari’s age of 11 in 02 was confirmed in the 02 Memorial Book. However, only Takeru’s grade was mentioned in the same book. - A Tri article/interview confirmed Hikari to be “older than Takeru” though they are still around the same age if going by Tri ages (~14).
* Friendly reminder that I really hate the Adventures timelines’ inconsistencies and total lack of official birthdays.
* Friendly reminder that if you’re trying to claim the characters have 100% “set” birthdays in regards to their ages, Kakudou himself literally confirmed you’re wrong. THE ONLY ONE WITH A 100% “SET” BIRTHDAY IS MIYAKO. THE ONLY ONE WITH A 100% “SET” BIRTHDAY IS MIYAKO. Estimating the ages going by timeline hintings is fine though. If you do this however, actually be aware of all the timeline statements and inconsistencies throughout.
* Friendly reminder that I seriously understand how important ages and the like can be to many fans, but if you’re trying to use the information given as 100% “proof” of anything, you’re very much doing it wrong.
* Friendly reminder that if going by all of the ages given, however, Iori is 17~ in *KIZUNA, the exact same age Taichi was in Tri.
* Friendly reminder that we literally have a canon epilogue where everyone is seen as adults with adult designs and these have all been in use since 2002 by this fandom.
* Friendly reminder that despite this, your headcanons regarding them at those ages are fine. Because the epilogue ages are, you know, official.
* Friendly reminder that I still hate the timeline inconsistencies and I am listing these mainly for my own convenience because I hate them that much.
#digimon adventures#motomiya jun#hida iori#inoue miyako#takaishi takeru#timeline inconsistencies#timeline#advs timeline#advs#profiles#tri profiles#tri ages#ages#(DOIN' THIS AGAIN APPARENTLY)#(WHOA I HATE ADVENTURES' TIMELINE)#(BUT YEAH IT'D BE COOL)#(IF PEOPLE COULD ACTUALLY USE REFERENCES..... YEAH..... YEAH)#(ok seriously though I WOULD GENUINELY LIKE TO DISCUSS TIMELINE THINGS with people curious but yeah)#(NOT if you're going to use them to prove yourself right or whatever in regards to basically anything mentioned here)#(anyway the notes re Jou Iori and Jun's are especially important)#(tired of pointing all this out tbh like dang am I going to have to put together an entire timeline myself)#(because no one knows how to calculate the Japanese school year apparently)#(ANYWAY 'THE ONLY ONE WITH A SET BIRTHDAY IS MIYAKO')#(fanon birthdays are fun and all but seriously please TAKE NOTE your FANON is not CANON)#(also friendly reminder Taichi is always only 1 year apart from Koushiro and Mimi as well)#(regardless of all these issues)#(but yeah this list is mainly for my own reference ok. you can use it BUT please recognize Adventures' inconsistencies)#(but yeah Iori is 17~ in kizuna like..... Taichi was 17 in tri...... just saying)#(also going by this like. Iori is closer in age to Takeru and Miyako than Miyako is to Mimi. Miyakos like 11 Mimis like 14 going on 15)#(also going by this like. Iori is closer in age to TAKERU and Miyako than Miyako is to Mimi. Miyakos like 11 MIMIS like *13~)

Description: This is my first time writing for one of my childhood fandoms, Digimon. I used to write this silly fanfic of Digimon Frontier back when Quizilla was a thing when I was about 10 or 11 called Cherry Blossom Moonlight (*GAGS*) but yeah it’s my first time writing for our OG resident lone wolf, Yamato ‘Matt’ Ishida and all that jazz after watching Last Evolution Kizuna. So yeah! This is based and inspired by me ranting my feelings about Matt to @aeonghaseyo on FB and my best friend, Lucy along with this particular Lux Botanicals body wash we have LMAO. This would be a four-part ficlet that’s going to be like a drabble and all but yeah, I hope you guys enjoy it! P.S. (Y/N) is your name, (D/P) is your digimon partner!
I- Can’t Sleep Love
Out of the Digi-destined, you were never the type to call up people in the dead of night, especially if all of your other friends were busy with their own lives so why the hell did you think calling up at least 5 or more of them to your house at midnight? Usually, you would’ve called at least one or two of them if they were free or shoot them a text out of the group chat’s reach, write about it on your journal or let alone talk to your Digimon partner about it but you were pretty sure that they were starting to get tired of it despite their instances that it was fine. But after writing down what you feel in your journal just as you had considered doing so, you caved in and you were lucky that all of them were free.
So now here you were, sitting inside your house’s dining room in nothing but a shirt that says ‘Know Your Worth’ and a pair of navy blue yoga pants and a pink cat headband on your head to keep your hair from sticking to the charcoal peel-off mask you had on your face. It was embarrassing really, calling up at least 6 of your closest friends at this time of night just to talk about the group’s resident lone wolf, Yamato ‘Matt’ Ishida, and your feelings towards the said male. In all honesty, you and Matt had been friends since your trip to the digital world, although the two of you shared some similarities, you were still different like day and night, you could’ve said both of you were like fire and ice but that’s more on with him and Taichi. Out of all of the chosen kids within your circle, the only ones who knew of your harbored feelings towards the elder of the Ishida-Takaishi siblings happened to be Mimi, Miyako, Taichi, Meiko, Izzy, Willis, and by extension, Ken because of his girlfriend, Miyako and finally, TK (Honestly, the kid was the first to know among you all and he would often tease you about your not so little crush on his older brother and it was even more of a pain in the ass about it when he got older? At least you got back at him when you found out that he has a crush on Kari. The kid thought he could escape, huh?)
Taking a deep breath, you then faced your friends, all of them eager and curious about what you have to say as you finally spoke, “I know that this is unexpected for me to call you guys over on such short notice and I know that some of you are busy with your own lives and all.” The moment you had said that your eyes seemed to land on both Mimi and Izzy, the busiest ones out of the bunch before continuing, “But I just really need to talk to someone about well….” Unable to find the right words, your partner quipped in from beside you, munching on the pack of Fita Crackers both of you were sharing before the arrival of your friends, “About your feelings towards Matt.” To which you sent a glare towards your smug-looking Digimon partner, your friends sweatdropping at this before you continued to speak, “Just as (D/P) had said, yes, it’s about him.” Reaching over to the pack of chips Wallace had brought, you let your eyes wander over to where all of your Digimon partners were, munching down on their snacks and talking with each other, letting out a sigh.
“I know I have other things to worry about such as college and my future and all of those other things, I just had to get this out of my system. I’ve been crushing on Matt for years and you all know that and it’s just… I have a lot of feelings and I just can’t seem to word them right, especially when it comes to him! Every time I try to express how I feel about him, I feel something weird in my chest. It’s the 'I can't explain this shit right' type of weird and it just frustrates me to no end! Like I will admit that I’m happy that he ended up with Sora.” At the mere mention of Sora and Matt’s relationship, both Ken and Izzy wanted to say something but both of their girlfriends had given them the look of ‘no, let (Y/N) figure it out by themselves.’ Honestly, you thought that it was weird but you simply brushed it off by popping another chip in your mouth. “It’s just….this sense of longing you know like almost as if we missed out or something and it makes me wanna go like…”
“Like real-life keyboard smashing?” Miyako spoke, brow raised in slight amusement at your current situation as you nodded, popping another chip into your mouth, “I mean I want to be with him but not in a sense that I want to sleep with him and ruin two of my long-running friendships with both Sora and Matt in one go the moment I come clean about my feelings!”
“It sounds like you’re going through a crisis….” Willis spoke out, holding Lopmon in his arms while Terriermon situated themselves upon your arms, much to your surprise as Izzy spoke, “I don’t see this as a ‘crisis’ of the sort. Plus I don’t think you’d be ruining any friendships at all! What I’m trying to say here, (Y/N)-senpai is that I think you should try and talk to him first but be subtle about it and not go in guns blazing. Plus there’s a study that says that most romantic relationships start as friendships! Just look at Mimi and I or even Ken and Miyako.”
“Easier said than done, Izzy.” You groaned, hand nearly flying to your cheek before realizing that you had a peel-off mask on, making you wrinkle your nose in slight annoyance as you pouted. “You guys had it easy because you didn’t have to worry about hurting anyone else’s feelings.” “That’s where you’re wrong, dummy!” Mimi spoke, reaching over to playfully tap you on the head as she continued, “Before Izzy and I became a thing, I was worried about hurting Emiko and ruining my friendship with her but after the three of us talked it out, we’re still friends and she’s okay with me dating Izzy here! “ After that brief story Mimi had told you, you recalled her dating Emiko, who happened to be a part of your little group and possessed the Crest of Loyalty and was paired with Elecmon. She and Mimi dated for 5 years but due to their packed schedules (Mimi running her own business and Emiko being a famous musician who constantly travels with Elecmon and takes up modeling and acting gigs as a side-line) and everything in between, it was safe to say that the both of them had ended their relationship on a good note and if you recall correctly, she and Meiko were dating now. “But still! It’s kind of different, alright? Plus the last time I had spoken to him and had seen him face to face was the time both of us were like 17!” This seemed to shock everyone, especially Mimi and Izzy as all of them spoke all at once, their questions mixed in a flurry of questions regarding your connection with Matt. Well…It was mostly Mimi, Wallace, and Miyako who did the questioning rather than all 6 of them.
“Five whole years!?! But the two of you are close!” “How about face-timing each other??? Or even DM’ing each other?” “Not even a single call or text or even a letter?!” Hearing all of them come at you all at once with these questions made you feel a little bit uneasy and perhaps even on edge, the only time they did stop was when they saw you clenching and unclenching your fists before holding a finger up as you spoke, “First off, we only talk in quick lapses and small ‘how are yous’ because we’ve been respectively busy with other things such as keeping our respective home bases safe from unwanted Digimon attacks. Both (D/P) and I have been keeping the damage on the down-low whenever there’s an attack and Izzy knows about this.” The aforementioned redhead nodded at this as he spoke, “That’s true, you’d be surprised at how many Digimons appear in (Y/N)’s home-turf now and then!” “I’m just lucky that I got a free week this time around and that I have nothing else to do. I mean I’d be in college right now but since I didn’t get accepted into the college I wanted to go to, I’ve decided to take a year off and then try again next year but that’s not our main topic here right now! The main topic is about how Matt and I went on for five years without seeing each other or let alone having an actual full-blown conversation with each other.” You spoke with a wave of dismissal as the rest of your friends listened to your final statement. You had been talking for at least an hour or so, at first, it was a small catch up on how things are going on with them and yourself included other stuff like hobbies and all that and somehow it came down to talking about the main reason why you called them up in the first place.
Standing up to head over to the bathroom to peel off the dry mask off of your skin you continued to speak, your voice echoing from the open bathroom door and towards your friend’s ears, occasionally wincing all the while as you peeled off the mask, “Not to mention, he’s busy with college. The last time I heard from him was when he told me about how he wasn’t sure about what he wants to do with his life.” You could hear one of the chairs move backward, indicating that one of your friends had stood up while you were preoccupied with the remains of the black peel-off mask. When your eyes had met the mirror once more, Miyako was the one to stand right behind you, arms folded over her chest, brow raised, and lip quirked upwards in a questioning manner as she spoke, “And when did this conversation take place?” Turning around to face her, you then reached over to the towelette that hung on the rack that was near the door, patting your face dry with it as you thought, exactly how long was it since then? “Uh….a month ago at least??? Why?”
Placing a hand upon your shoulder, the younger lilac-haired female stared directly right into your eyes as she spoke, “(Y/N)-san, you’re like family to me but PLEASE just talk to him. It’s as simple as that but like Koushiro-senpai had just said, just don’t go in guns blazing.” “I-I’ll think about it, okay? For now….”
It had been an hour since your friends had left and now here you were, wide awake with an arm thrown across your forehead in a debilitating manner, nose scrunched up and lips pulled into a tight huff as you thought about what your friends had told you moments ago. They made a point, sure, but what they didn’t know was that you had been constantly texting Matt for the past few months, in hopes he would get the chance to read it, and sure, he did but he never responded and that was enough for you cease your texting because you were getting worried that you were probably distracting him from his studies and whatnot. So what do you do when you start to miss him? You scroll through your phone and re-read some of your old chats together, scroll through your gallery to look at some of the old photos and videos of the two of you together during your high school days. Most of these videos were taken by your Digimon partner, Gabumon, or anyone from the group and such. But out of all of the videos you’ve taken, the one you cherish the most was the one that you had taken during his 14th birthday. It was your first time seeing Odaiba without any Digimon attacking and you marveled at the scenery before you, both you and Matt venturing around the city and it was also the first time you had witnessed him perform live on stage with his band during the time and you’ve supported him in his endeavors ever since but you also made sure to knock some sense into him whenever you got the chance, this was also the time he had first taught you how to play your guitar as well and the time you had realized that you weren’t crushing on him anymore, no. You were in love and you fell for Matt, hard.
Snapping yourself back into reality, you then cast your phone aside to your bedside table, hands flying over to your face, you then groaned a little bit loudly, enough to wake your slumbering partner right beside you, which of course, effectively woke them up, their eyes half-lidded and sleep ridden as they spoke, a little bit bluntly, “Y’know, it wouldn’t kill you to just talk to him, (Y/N). Mimi, Miyako, and the others are right, just talk to him. It would do everyone some good and please get some sleep instead of reminiscing at hours such as these.” Turning around to look at your partner, you finally caved in and heaved a deep sigh, expression softening as you spoke, “You guys win. I’ll talk to him.”
At this point, your partner looked as if they were completely done with your bullshit and had reached over to bonk you on the head as they spoke, “Not through text, genius. Give him a call and don’t be awkward.” “Ow! Fine, I’ll do it, happy?” You responded, holding your head a pout on your face as your digimon partner yawned, turning over to their side, snuggling further into their side of the bed and their blankets, “Yes, now go the fuck to sleep.”
“SINCE WHEN DID YOU LEARN HOW TO FUCKING CUSS, (D/P)!?” “The moment I was paired with you, now go to sleep.” “I-Fair point. Good night.”

[fanfic] Faded Memories
Sora wasn't really sure about why she came in here, but she did any way. She'd been told that she knew this girl, that they'd been close once, and if she really tried hard, she thought she could remember little bits, dusty moments from years ago. But they weren't very clear and if she thought about other things, those memories faded away, replaced by things that mattered so much more.
Piyomon looked as confused as she felt but didn't argue as they made their way through the hospital corridors. A few doctors and nurses glanced their way as they came by, but aside from looking a bit nervous, no one seemed to think anything was out of order. Or at least they weren't going to be thrown out.
The hospital room contained five beds. The nameplates revealed their names, none of which seemed familiar to her. Ichijouji, Motomiya, Hida, Inoue - the fifth one was listed as Gennai, and she knew she knew him, but after what had happened with the last Gennai she'd seen, Sora couldn't bring herself to care just yet.
She'd only taken a few steps closer to the bed where Inoue lay before the violet-haired teenager opened her eyes and blinked in her direction. Then her eyes flicked here and there, as if in search of something, and finally returned to Sora.
She said nothing at first. One hand slowly felt around on the bed, before she reached over and tried to get a cup of water. Sora moved over to help her, trying to figure out what she should say. How to tell a person that clearly knew her - she'd seen the look in the other's eyes - that she had only the vaguest of recollections that never stayed long enough for her to be certain of them?
Once she'd taken a drink of water, the girl sat up a little better, more strength entering her expression. Her attention shifted over to Hida, who had turned a little to watch, before turning away again. Then she looked back at Sora.
"You don't know who we are," she said at last, her voice hoarse and harsh. "If it weren't for this," she waved one hand at the nameplate, "would you even know my name?"
Sora felt herself blushing a deep red and ducked her head. "I - of -" She wanted to claim that she knew who Inoue Miyako was, but she didn't, and she knew it should bother her, but everything seemed so distant, as if this were a mere formality she had to deal with before going back to something more important. How soon would be too soon to leave?
A long silence stretched out between the two of them. Piyomon fidgeted before she moved a bit closer. "Where's your partner? You're supposed to be a Chosen but you don't have a partner.
"I don't know where Hawkmon is," Inoue replied. She sounded as if she would put more energy into her words if she had it to put. "I haven't seen him since we woke up." Her fingers stroked against the blanket for a few moments before she raised her head again to catch Sora's eyes. "Can I ask you something? You probably won't like it. But - I think I want to know."
Part of Sora thought this would be a very bad idea. But she couldn't say that either. Instead she just nodded, and Inoue paused, almost as if she'd not expected that. Then she kept on going.
"You always care about other people. Only - you stopped caring about us. You don't even remember us. Why? What did we do that made you not love us anymore?"
The words struck Sora deeper than anything she'd heard in quite some time. Her mouth worked but nothing came of it that came even close to being sensible or even proper words. Her fingers flexed and her arms wrapped around Piyomon. Whether she remembered her or not, this girl remembered her and cared about her, and Sora hadn't - hadn't known. Had known and forgotten. Had cared once and forgotten.
And she didn't know why. She wasn't the only one. They'd all had to deal with this. But they'd stopped it all. They'd saved those they could and the virus was gone - wasn't it? What was wrong and how could they fix it? Could they fix it? Was it something that they could change at all?
She stumbled her way to her feet, arms tightening around Piyomon. She wanted to say something else, something that might be reassuring, but no words found their way out. Instead, she turned and hurried away, steps echoing all around her. Still no one looked oddly her way, even though she was all but running.
Inoue didn't call after her. Sora had never been so glad not to hear someone's voice. Those words she'd already heard burned inside of her heart and mind.
At least for a little while. By the time she reached the elevator, she'd slowed down until she walked more or less at a normal pace. She headed down and out, then was out on the street. The fear and anger that had filled her moments before drained away as she soaked up the sun, and she could feel Piyomon's tension fading away as well.
Why had she even been at the hospital? She vaguely recalled visiting someone, but for the life of her she couldn't remember who or why. None of her friends or family were in the hospital. Maybe it had been a friend of a friend?
"Sora?" Piyomon asked quietly and Sora looked down at her. "Are we going home now? I'm hungry."
Of course. Digimon were always hungry. She would have to take care of that. If there had really been anything wrong, then Piyomon would have told her. She could always trust her partner, no matter what.
By the time she reached the end of the road, she didn't remember even being in the hospital at all.
The End
Notes: This takes place in the same storyline as Passage of Time, and I think I want to set it with my Jun fic, Smoothing Over as well. So I’m building ideas and connections – and yes, when Taichi Week happens, we get to see Daisuke throw his goggles in Taichi’s face. I’ve wanted to write that for a very long time.

Who’s your favorite Adventure character that isn’t associated with a specific Crest/trait? Which of the canon traits (Courage, Friendship, etc) do you think would be their strongest if they could be totaled up for each person like a video game stat?
Hmmm... Tough question.
My favorites are: Jun, Kido bros, Michael, Catherine, Rosa (not going to call her by "Chichos"/"Chicos" anymore lol), Yukio, Wallace* and Menoa.
* I counted Wallace because, while we associate him with "Destiny" this is not "officially" a crest (though 5 years ago they had made gashapon toys with both Miracles and Destiny in tag format, alongside with Kindness, another which had no tag depicted in 02 or any material)
Anyway, I decided to pick Menoa, Jun and Wallace for this.
•
For Jun, I think the best is her having the same crests as Daisuke -- Courage and Friendship. Because she's completely courageous and daring, also she gets along with the Inoue sisters on the same level as Daisuke and Miyako see themselves by equals.
So I believe she would be an excellent holder of those two crests.
•
As for Wallace, as explained beforehand, "Destiny" is not an "official" crest, so I do not count it and Miracles here. Hurricane Touchdown is his journey and we learn a lot from it, but the most important trait to be picked within the movie's story is how much Hope he had in getting Chocomon back without having to fight. And, at the end of the movie, Daisuke is the one to give him a reason to be hopeful about meeting Chocomon again.
And now... Menoa.
NOTE: Kizuna spoilers in the rest of this post, just warning.
For Menoa, I think many might think her crest would've been "Knowledge" because she's intelligent and such... But, Like Shiha had explained in this post and the crests relation to the Adv/02 kids, Knowledge is not about "intelligence" but "seek to learn more" and "curiosity" which fits more people like Koushiro and Iori.
So, my pick is Kindness. Why? Unlike Ken, who simply claimed his kindness was a weak point of himself and tried to get rid of it, Menoa embraces her kindness aspect so much to the point of turning it into something twisted and corrupted -- She wants so much to save everyone from her terrible fate that she does not realize that no one is asking to be saved because no one, except for a few isolated cases, needs to be saved.
When she's about to lose Morphomon, she mentions about how "now she could help everyone with her skills" which implies in her desire to wanting to help people at that age. It's a shame her twisted vision of adulthood and her own experiences with Morphomon losing her physical form had driven her crazy.
So, I think Kindness is the best choice for her. (also funny how this makes her have a parallel with Ken-chan oof)

Jyou and Koushirou, mostly thanks to their connection to Iori, often get paired together as "left-overs" in official art portrayals; this also happens when "the main fighters" (Taichi & Yamato), "the girls" (Sora & Mimi) and "the angel siblings" (Takeru & Hikari) get paired off as well. At first glance, there isn't much more to it than that (especially because there are also variations of them being paired off with Sora and Mimi respectively too), especially because their roles in the series actually aren't as "tropey" as they appear to be at first glance. But their relationship is still interesting to look at regardless:
The creators of Digimon intended to "throw you off the usual, conventional track" by the way they depict their main characters. Kakudou himself refers back to Jyou and Koushirou to make this clear: "The oldest one would be the most unreliable, and the smartest one would be one of the third youngest." Reading that, you would assume that our studious Jyou, being as keen to become a doctor as he is while dealing with occasional self-esteem issues, would feel rather intimidated by Koushirou. Koushirou, who is depicted as naturally smart and, during one of their first interactions in the Digital World, easily solves a math problem that Jyou struggles with.
However - this is literally NEVER an issue between them. There are exactly two occasions where it's played for laughs: First, in the stageplay, as Koushirou is overall blissfully unaware of Jyou's despair over his grades. Second, in the reboot, but even there, it only happens during their introduction and is never brought up again.
Overall, the series is mostly subtle about their stance towards each other. But Adventure and 02 also make sure that, when they do interact with each other - as rarely as it happens -, you KNOW they are on good terms with each other. It's when Jyou trustfully follows Koushirou through the crowd of Tokyo while they wonder where the others have vanished to; it's when Koushirou tries to protect Jyou from being assaulted by a literal adult and ends up getting thrown down a bridge because of it; it's when Koushirou cries because Jyou willingly sacrifices himself to get him to safety, even if it happens in vain; it's when they call each other for arrangements through the course of 02 because they know they can rely on each other; heck, it's when the English dub makes Jyou shout out things like "DON'T START WITHOUT ME, I WANNA HEAR IZZY'S THEORIES, I LOVE IZZY'S THEORIES."
So you can tell, they are generally valuing and supportive of each other. Tri is, unfortunately, a little bit more divisive in this regard; as mentioned here, the topic of romance is a touchy one for our resident "nerds". Which is, unfortunately, a trope they both have to deal with, as Jyou is involved with a girlfriend we never see and know if she's real - but he still gets kinda boastful about it, so his "advice" towards Koushirou ("At least take a shower or the ladies will hate you") is... Not exactly taken well by him, quite the contrary. Koushirou is stuck trying to save the world while fighting with the girl he has complicated feelings for - thus he seems to be feeling belittled by Jyou and shuts down.
But fear not, the stageplay and Kizuna are here to save the day! The former in particular is excellent at showing us the extent of how much they simply value and adore each other: All comic relief aside, Koushirou straight up voices his delight over Jyou being with them on their camping trip and while he tries to maintain a harsh demeanour towards Jyou being potentially "fake", you can tell that the possibility gets to him. Jyou on the other hand kinda seems to enjoy the little bickering between them to an extent, it's all pretty lighthearted after all - and, most importantly, he is the one who manages to reassure Koushirou during his lowest moment. Telling him that, even if he doesn't believe in himself, Jyou DOES believe in him - and judging by the screenshot above, you can tell that this does something to Koushirou. Overall, it may not be the MOST VISIBLE friendship in the series, but their bond is definitely there - and persists, as Koushirou still seems to manage to stay in touch with Jyou during Kizuna.
Whether I think why and how they’d work.
I'll be real, I am incredibly torn when it comes to the romantic potential between these two. It is fascinating to see them bounce off of each other the way they do - especially if you consider their age difference and that even the little instances of bickering between them still don't feel like either of them feels really inferior or superior to the other in the long run. The potential to have them fight over "intelligence" and "girls" in a typical "nerd fashion" had been there - and I'll give kudos to the writers for not succumbing to that, but instead making their bond incredibly valuing and supportive.
And I'll be real again... The fact that Koushirou's bitter reaction to Jyou telling him to "shower or the ladies will hate you" does have the potential for subtext... Because personally, I still believe Tri in itself is a metaphor for Koushirou trying to figure out his preferences in more than one sense. So despite everything, what if it weren't the "ladies" he wanted to impress - and the reason why he got mad at that statement wasn't so much that Jyou was right, but that he didn't even think about that...
Thinking of Jyou and Koushirou through a romantic lense is both difficult and interesting, because on one hand, their Tri portrayals give off very blatant "bickering bro vibes" while simultaneously trying very hard to push them both in a "strictly straight" direction. And yet - the gentle, fond subtext that Adventure, 02 and the stageplay offered at least gives room for an entirely different set of feelings towards each other. It could be a story of them masking their preferences, being heavily in denial and learning how to overcome their comp-het phases - together!
I have no doubt that they will stay in touch way into adulthood, since both their careers are intertwined with the Digital World and they may ask each other for information and advice a lot. So the opportunity to bond and get closer through that is definitely there. One might argue that they both need more contrasting forces in their lives to pull them out of their comfort zones (such as Mimi, Yamato or Taichi), since we saw Jyou wasn't exactly capable of doing that for Koushirou (yet)... But if they manage to actually listen to each other and get over themselves, they may be able to make it work. Slowly but steadily.
Whether I’d prefer them as platonic or romantic ship.
Not gonna lie, I love to imagine these two as adults going on Digital World strolls with Taichi, moping over adulting and their respective jobs giving them headaches - even though they all love what they're doing and are probably closer than ever. I usually do think of them as complementing friends who trust each other without a shred of a doubt and call each other when something urgent is up - including the moping. While I do believe that Taichi would be Koushirou's and Yamato Jyou's gay awakening respectively, I feel like they could be a solid fit for each other - but like with many other ships, they're more likely to find each other when a lot of other people are "out of the picture". So I mostly prefer them to be platonic, absolutely do not deny the subtle romantic potential though!

hello! recently, i've read your post about the filipino english dub. i want to say that i really like the south east asia eng dub. i am from a south east asian country myself. the dub is exactly the 'english ver.' that i used to watch digimon adventure & 02 during childhood days before i find out about the original JP ver later. i still have few DA & 02 cd's based on the dub that i kept until now. also i have both series in that dub on my laptop too. other than the original JP ver., i also prefer to watch digimon in that kind of eng dub. i didn't know that it is a filipino eng dub until i found it on youtube later. taichi daisuke & miyako's voices are cool to me. sounds like a native eng speaker voicing them even though it is a SEA dub. like you said, the script, character development of taichi and his friends, the settings as well as other things are much closer. i say that it is staying true to the original ver. as much as possible. in my opinion, all of the filipino eng dub voices fit to all 12 characters, although i feel a bit weird, have a mixed feelings about the voices in DA ep 1-4, i feel comfortable, get used to listen to the voices starting in DA ep 5 all the way until 02. even the 12 kids' names & their families are the same as the JP ver. except for miyako. in that dub, miyako is being called as kyo inoue. wish that they had mentioned the full miyako name on the dub. that is my only gripe on the dub, but even that sounds fine to me now. i really love the dub so much. reminds me of the good old days.
Thank you so much for sharing!
In regards to Miyako's name, that's actually most likely because her kanji name 京 can also be read "Kyou" (as she explains in the first episode, the same "Kyo" in "Kyoto"). I've heard multiple dubs named her that, and it's entirely possible it may not have been an intentional change as much as accidentally reading her name that way. I mean, if you're not familiar with the arbitrary readings Japanese kanji can have, "my name 'Miyako' is written like the 'Kyo' in 'Kyoto'" doesn't exactly make sense...

Since it popped up on the Podcast, how would you rank the sibling dynamics from healthy to trainwreck?
This is an innocent-sounding question until you go over the franchise and realize just how many sibling relationships there are in Digimon and that all but like three of them have elements that might raise eyebrows. In the interest of being comprehensive, this includes all named characters in any anime, manga, and game I’m familiar with, treating the reboot separately and including Survive because... (looks at Kaito and Miu’s bios) ...holy crap.
Sibling Relationship Rankings! (Healthy is Higher)
Joe & Shin Kido (Adventure): Shin understands Joe’s hang-ups and offers support to make his own choices without steering him in any specific direction, for or against the family. And Shuu exists too (depending on the language you’re watching in)
Juri & Masahiko Kato (Tamers): For all of the awkwardness and potential points of fracture in the family, Juri and Masahiko are very close. Fun Fact: She started carrying around her iconic hand puppet to amuse and entertain him!
Keito & Nozomi Tamada (Re:Arise): Even with very different personalities, Keito and Nozomi have a lot of respect for each other. Unlike some big brothers, he comes to a mature conclusion when he realizes she’ll be just fine with Pumpmon at her side.
Yamato Ishida & Takeru Takaishi (Adventure 2020): Yamato’s worry over Takeru only affects his reluctance to take on time-consuming side quests when he might be in danger. Far more chill about trusting Takeru with the rest of the team, he’s a motivation rather than a mental handicap.
Masaru & Chika Daimon (Savers): Perhaps a more controversial pick for the healthier side, but Masaru and Chika have a playful relationship that proves that Chika dishes out as much as anyone in the family. Given how much harm DATS and Digimon have done to the family, Masaru risks her love to keep them away from her.
Joe & Shin Kido (Adventure 2020): Shin’s still supportive and still encourages Joe to make choices for himself, but having that bugout bag ready to go raises some serious questions about that family and which side Shin’s really on.
Ai & Makoto (Tamers): Toddlers fight. It’s okay. They come together for Impmon’s sake and the fact that they’re the only duo in the franchise with mutual custody over a digivice has to say something about the strength of their relationship.
Nene & Kotone Amano (Xros Wars Manga): Nene’s tactics are still desperate but not quite as extreme as the anime, and it counts for so much that Kotone fights so hard for Nene once the tables are turned. And good lord that backstory...
Takuya & Shinya Kanbara (Frontier): There’s definitely a sense of Takuya lapsing into thinking Shinya encapsulates everything frustrating about having an older brother, but he gets over it.
Miyako Inoue + Three (Zero Two): Perfectly normal large household. And while wondering what it would be like to be an only child is something every youngest does... top of mind fantasy, Miyako? Really?
Jianliang & Shaochung Lee (Tamers): Speaking of four-packs... there’s no doubting how much they care about each other, but Jian’s occasional short fuse with Shaochung betrays his usual calm demeanor, and we never get a picture of the full family dynamic once Rinchei and Jaarin are included.
Daisuke & Jun Motomiya (Zero Two): Everyone likes to paint Jun and Daisuke as something uglier than it really is. As much as they annoy each other, it’s still a pretty conventional sibling dynamic and they’d still fight hard for the other... even if the feeling’s closer to obligation.
Koji Minamoto & Koichi Kimura (Frontier): There’s no questioning the bond they develop, but there’s no way Koji and Koichi go from “don’t know the other exists” to “ZOMG Twinzies!” without a ton of awkwardness and feeling each other out. They’ll get better, but from our standpoint this is where we start to drift into trainwreck territory.
Tomoki & Yutaka Himi (Frontier): Tomoki can spin it all he wants but Yutaka comes off as a real jerk. Not that some resentment isn’t a little justified given how much Tomoki is coddled, but taking it upon himself to be the bearer of tough love is still not cool.
Taichi & Hikari Yagami (Adventure 2020): Hikari has a blind faith that Taichi can save the day in any circumstance, up to and including international shipping crisis. Meanwhile Taichi sees Hikari lapsing between typical friendly eight year old to brainwashed robot and doesn’t find any problem with it.
Yamato Ishida & Takeru Takaishi (Adventure): Lessons in how not to be an overprotective big brother. Yamato freaks out at the slightest notion that Takeru might be exposed to danger, including his very presence in the Digital World. When you have a complete nervous breakdown realizing that little bro’s actually pretty capable on his own, it’s not about your relationship with him anymore.
Touma & Relena Norstein (Savers): There’s caring about a little sister, making her plight a central cause in your life, and then involving her in a chess match with a madman. There’s a lot to forgive here (they are raised in a family where your kneejerk reaction to Grandma is “I bet she supported the Nazis in World War II”), but everything about their relationship just makes you uncomfortable.
Kaito & Miu Shinonome (Survive): Maybe it’s not fair since their game is the franchise’s unicorn, but their bios have warning flags all over it. He’s overprotective, ready to fight at the slightest hardship, and she repays this attitude by being rebellious and weird and eager to pursue trouble. May end up being worse once the game actually comes out.
Rei & Hajime Katsura (Appmon): Another one where their backstory makes you sympathize with the lengths they go to in order to stay together, but risking the security of actual guardians to go it alone? Jesus. Even with their ride or die attitude, you still sense a bit of friction in their relationship, and so many of their hardships are their own doing.
Nene & Yuu Amano (Xros Wars): There’s nothing seemingly wrong on the surface between Nene and Yuu, but that’s why their actions are so extreme. Yuu’s more than happy to treat her as an enemy general in his game, while Nene’s aligning herself with dark forces and causing real trouble to get him back. It’s all very loud and intense for a relationship that, without external influences, is just nice and cordial.
Yuuko & Yuugo Kamishiro (Cyber Sleuth): You can be anything you want on the internet! So why not take the identify of your big brother who was stricken with a mystery illness at a young age and lead a legion of hackers? And if you’re Yuugo, use your digital body to take control of that avatar! Nothing weird about any of this!
Ken & Osamu Ichijouji (Zero Two): Like Tomoki, Ken can come up with whatever rationale for Osamu’s abuse he wants, and Osamu at least had some kind moments, but there’s no denying that this family was a mess. And of course Ken’s reaction to Osamu’s death... could have been better.
Taichi & Hikari Yagami (Adventure): Hikari’s introduction to the series was intended to be a little creepy, and that just sets the tone. Her blind loyalty to Taichi is a primary point of emphasis through three series, and Taichi sometimes goes ballistic worrying about her... when not accidentally endangering her life. And that’s before she unleashes a world-destroying abomination at the mere suggestion that Taichi’s dead, and why telling him “what you’re doing is wrong and I kind of hate you for it” is a big moment for her, even though she’s wrong.
Neo & Rei Saiba (V-Tamer): There’s going a little overboard to keep your family together or save a sibling’s life, and then there’s aligning yourself with evil forces to avoid having to deal with your sister’s manageable disability. Call it being jaded or delusional, but when it drives your sister to attempt suicide there are definitely issues you two need to work through.
Erika & Ryuji Mishima (Cyber Sleuth Hackers Memory): Because aligning oneself with Arkadimon is always a fantastic idea. He’s overprotective, she manipulates him because of it, there’s resentment, there’s anger, and basically the entire game is spent watching these two outdo each other in terms of causing wanton destruction throughout the city and cyberspace.
Honorable Mention: Bagramon & DarkKnightmon (Xros Wars): The battle of who can stab the other in the back last.

Digimon Adventure 02 Appreciation Challenge Day 4 - An 02 Musical Piece That Makes You Feel Every Time It Plays
Okay, I'm one of those people who have listened to the majority of the Digimon Adventure 02 Soundtrack (really the whole Adventure series soundtrack as a whole), so I probably will have answers that make you go "What? What is that song?"
My favorite song in the whole Digimon franchise is Hitoribocchi no Seesaw by the Teen-Age Wolves
IT'S BEAUTIFUL SONG I'M SORRY
Yuto Kazama is a beautiful singer, and the lyrics are written so amazing
My second favorite song has to be the duet Fly High by Miyako Inoue and Hawkmon. The singers sound like they're having so much fun and the background music is so great!
Please Listen to these yourself!
Hitoribocchi no Seesaw Link and Fly High Link
(Honorable mentions are Bokura no Digital World, Shiny Days, Target, Negai Kanaeru Kagi, Crash De Bingo, Shining Star, Tobira DOOR Acoustic Version, Itsumo Itsudemo, Ashita wa Atashi no Kaze ga Fuku)
