Noticed in this photo that Stefan grabbed Katherine's ass while dancing in 2x7. Between that and kissing her in 2x4 and avoiding answering Elena about his feelings for her in 2x5 and gaslighting, it bothers me that Elena felt guilty for dancing with and kissing Damon when Stefan didn't show remorse over his actions or tell her. When I noticed that in 2x7 I felt it cheapened the love he had for Elena and added to my further disgust. Also his expressions when Katherine said she checked in on him showed that he had unresolved feelings despite not wanting to date her again.

Datherine and Steferine have a lot of differences. Most fans focus on the broad strokes. Like the fact that Stefan was compelled but Damon wasn't. Relationships aren't just about the beginning and the middle, they're about the end. While Damon lived his truth for 145 years, Stefan lived in denial. You can see and feel the differences between Datherine and Steferine just by watching Delena and Stelena.

Elena: Did Stefan think that he could use me to replace her? Damon: Kinda creepy if you ask me. 

Katherine: Have I mentioned how inconvenient your obsession with me has been? Damon: You and me both, honey.

Stefan's living in denial is the reason he's the one more likely to suffer transference. The one more likely to fall back into a relationship with Katherine. The one who'd replace Katherine with Elena. That's why it gets so much focus. Why Elena never once questions Damon's intentions the way she does Stefan's. She has no reason to.

Damon's living in truth is the reason his relationship with Elena is deeply affected by his love for Katherine. This is shown even in his attempt to build a friendship with her. 1x13 is perfect example. Elena is able to fool him because he can't imagine Katherine lying to him. That's what them being doppelgangers does to him.

Stefan would welcome Elena dressing up as Katherine. Damon wouldn't.

Speaking on Datherine, can we talk about dumb the “it’s okay to love them both. i did”? Morally, you should not love two men who are brothers at the same time 💀 Second, it’s not even true. It was established that Katherine never loved Damon or even cared about him for most of S2 then after she said that line, they backtracked that next season.

Well, I mean, that's kind of the point of the line, though, right? Because Katherine's the one who says it and are you going to listen to Katherine above all people about what's OK and what's not? And Elena isn't supposed to be Katherine, which is why KW had that quote about it:

Kevin Williamson: At the end of Season 2, Katherine uttered that one line, ‘It’s OK to love both of them.’ We’re gonna sort of watch that play out. And what does that mean? It meant one thing for Katherine. What’s it going to mean for Elena? You can love someone brotherly. You can love someone as a friend. As I've mentioned many times before, the [retconned] love that Elena describes she felt toward Damon in 3x01 doesn't sound like romantic love at all.

And yeah, the whole Katherine actually loves Damon thing had me like, I mean, she wanted him, but even when she tries to seduce him throughout season 2 there isn't really a glimmer of affection until he gets bitten.

Bamon is mythic on many levels

As I was pondering the goddesses and men, Selene and Endymion dynamic I realized Bamon definitely hits several of the main notes in that vein, and that the characters pass through some variations on that theme before coming to each other.

Damon’s first taste of love is with this powerful immortal when he’s a human man. He’s enthralled with her beauty, freedom and power but alas...she was not to be his goddess. She didn’t love him back. But like Selene did for Endymion in several different versions of their myth, she did grant him a lesser version of immortality.

And our goddess Bonnie’s first love is this mortal, Jeremy Gilbert. She fell in love with him and fell hard, and when his time came to die, she defied the laws of the universe to save his life. We technically hit the notes of the song here with these two but...this was a dress rehearsal for when they found each other.

Now we get to Bamon, and for mythical love they actually give us THREE different myths, one of which is gender-flipped.

The first is the subject of my last post, the goddess and the mortal. While yes, technically Damon is immortal, compared to Bonnie he’s distinctly unmagical. It’s clearly stated in the series that vampires lack the ability to connect to and feel nature, and that is the source of magic in their world. Eventually the show breaks that rule with heretics, but that’s off topic, so I’m sticking to the main lore here. Bonnie can accomplish feats of magic that leave him in genuine awe. And, rather importantly, Damon first seriously considers using the cure when he thinks he and Bonnie might die in the prison world, so he might do so with her as a human. And when Stefan cures him, neither of them have reason to imagine this will result in him being with Elena because she’s still under her magical slumber with no apparent way out. And thus, we’re back to human Damon and fabulous goddess. But what kind of goddess is Bonnie in particular? That takes us to myth #2.

Bonnie’s a nature goddess of course! That’s why her powers are so tied to weather, the elements, life...and why it’s made clear several times that she will lose the power she has if she loses her life. It’s why her powers are intensified when she’s outside in the elements. And a nature goddess in love with a god of death...well that sounds an awful lot like Hades and Persephone, doesn’t it?

And this is one of those myths that has two versions...just like this show presented two takes on it. In one, she goes willingly to the god of death, but eats 6 seeds of a pomegranate and is thus bound to remain in the underworld.

In the other less romantic version of this tale, she’s dragged down there and has to be rescued by her mother, but as in the other version, she’s only able to get her a reprieve and not fully free her from the grip of the underworld and its king.

And to wrap up this jaunt of mystical madness...we have Orpheus and Euridice. Orpheus was a musician and Euridice was the love of Orpheus’s life. When she tragically died, he played songs so sad even the gods wept and they agreed to give him a chance to rescue his love from the Underworld.

Bonnie faced down death itself to save the lives of Enzo and Damon, while the show was giving us love triangle vibes. Bonnie used her magic to attempt to bring Enzo back from the land of the dead, and ultimately that ended in him trying to straight up drag her to hell with him. She failed in much the same way Orpheus did, and nearly met a grisly fate like his own. And Bonnie faced down Cade, the personification of death and judgment on the show for Damon...and we’re back to Selene and Endymion because this goddess defied all odds and saved his life.

Sure, it could all be coincidence, but I think it’s deeper than that. I think that versions of these myths have travelled through all the cultures of the world in different ways with some variation, but much of the core themes the same, and therefore instinctively they hold our attention. Even people who can’t tell you the names or exactly where they came from or the details usually heard a bit of this here and a bit of that there, and if you’re going to make a story feel epic to your audience, you’ve got to kick it old-school with the themes of the epics our ancestors passed down. I think in the Vampire Diaries with these characters and their foils, you see how strong and enduring a bond these dynamics can create when the love is true, and how much of a tragedy there is in gods and mortals entangling if their love is not true and their motives are not pure.

otp: Spuffy & Fuffy. & Coffy. in that order tbh but I do adore them all favourite canon pairing: Spuffy. other than them I’m only really into Sprusilla and primarily s5 Willara worst pairing ever: I mean it’s Buffy/Giles obviously people who ship that are freaks. but otherwise anything involving Xander (usually I can like ships even if I dislike a character in them if there’s merit to a dynamic imo but here I can not somehow I just … hate him so much lol). Any canon ship that isn’t the three I just mentioned mostly isn’t for me guilty pleasure pairing: I don’t really have one, also I never quite know what this is supposed to mean and most of my ships for this verse aren’t like, healthy. but Willow x Amy would be like another level of toxic even by Buffyverse standards and I do find the idea kind of fun, although I never sought  content for it. and the rare time I’ve seen a Buffy x Drusilla post I’ve been like ! a pairing you want to see more: Buffy x Tara & Buffy x Kendra & Faith x Willow & Willow x Anya all those ships are great, especially Faith x Willow which I’m a vocal advocate for. Oh and Cordelia x Anya would’ve been rad that pairing everyone likes but you’re like “lol no”: Bangel but I used to notp it and now I do respect it a lot more for it’s place in Buffy’s narrative and see some merit in it, but it’s still really not my cup of tea romantically. I don’t hate hate it anymore but still. favorite non-romantic pair: Buffy & Dawn + Tara & Dawn the absolute best! Buffy & Giles. also Buffy and Willow but them I do occasionally like romantically (mostly I like the thought of them having crushes on each other in s3 and then growing out of them, but post Alyson Hannigan talking about them dating in S7 I do sometimes find the idea a little fun too). But like primarily I love their friendship. I also just sort of love Tara’s dynamics with all the Scoobies. Spike and Dawn even if reading some things about James and Michelle has made me feel worse about this but I did love their written dynamic. they don’t get too many scenes one on one but I love Spike and Willow when they’re together, also as foils.

TVD otp: Bamon & Beklena. favourite canon pairing: Steroline & Stebekah. worst pairing ever: Caroline x Alaric seems really obvious as the worst one. DE & SE I think I’ve had a stronger negative reaction to DE in the past because it’s a) a ship that I expected to like when I first watched but didn’t which is never fun and b) because it took up so much narrative space in the later seasons, whereas SE mostly just bored me. now I have a more eyeroll-y reaction to both with distance that isn’t full on hatred per se. I could not stand Matt x Caroline. I know in the grand scheme of TVDu ships it’s not like that insidious but it grated on me a lot guilty pleasure pairing: I guess Katholine would be this I really loved them tbh, also Klaroline and Steferine. and Datherine I don’t think about them as much but I enjoy them together. a pairing you want to see more: Beklena & Bonora & Katholine. also Kennett had a lot of potential that pairing everyone likes but you’re like “lol no”: Delena & Stelena favorite non-romantic pair: Elena and Katherine !!! my favorite dynamic on the show. [Featuring Klaus as the "high key besotted already pursuing Caroline"-person, and Caroline is the "I am very very annoyed w this wooing, but I am more annoyed this wooing is working"-person. And also, I like my Klaus E V I L, But really really really *soft* for Caroline.]

Also if by tropes you meant settings, Like AU's, literally anything works, I have a personal bias for Crime AU's when it comes to enemies to lovers, and Canon is the ultimate enemies to lovers AU, but honestly you can use which ever one you want, I am not entirely sure myself if I have a specific preference here, AH, Fantasy, Supernatural, Scifi, it's all good.

Ok I LOVE me some Kennett [kol + bonnie] but I also LOVEEE kolenzo [Kol and Enzo], I also am extremely just *heart eyes* at Bonenzo [Bonnie + enzo], but I absolutely DIE for Kennettzo [which is OT3 of Kol Bonnie and Enzo]

Kalijah is also a-ok w me, and I feel like I dont have any other side pairings I'd like die to see I guess. If you choose not to go with these side pairings its perfectly alright.

Bonnie + Caroline [like i love this so much it physically hurts me, they both deserve so so so much better]

Tropes:

I am totally not fond of the Kill Liz for plot reasons trope, like seriously killing Caroline's mom is not ok w me, but I am totes fine if she's like already dead as part of Caroline's backstory, just don't show me Liz dying in the story as a part of the plot.

Any form of sire-bond-y or like sire-bond adjacent or like any form of deal/bargain/agreement that gives Klaus even a tiniest bit of power over Caroline's free will and choices, is just not for me, like at all, no matter how well it's done, I can't stand it.

not fond of any form of prisoner/hostage tropes, like klaus kidnapping caroline or caroline kidnapping klaus and holding each other hostage and stuff like that.

Death as a plot point doesnt work for me? and really I'd prefer if there were no major character deaths at all.

Friends to lovers trope is not for me, childhood friends to lovers trope is definitely not for me.

I don't like any sort of redemption arc really, anything that starts with Klaus as a “bad” dude and ends with him being a relatively “good” dude is not for me.

Any form of infidelity, like ofc especially in between Klaus and Caroline is just [shudder] hard pass, but like I also hate it when Caroline or Klaus cheat on anybody at all.

Also all the tropes and like themes I'm not comfy w that I mentioned in my original Gift Request still stand.

KC Pairing Pet peeves

ok This I can answer easily bc I have like a FEW,

I hate a woobified Klaus so much, like so much, I hate all TO!Klaus characterizations but this one is the worst, absolutely not here for it, I am not here to feel sorry for this mf I want to feel really deliriously GIDDY at how evil he is and how whipped he is for Caroline, but like concentrating on Klaus's manpain is not something I really wanna read.

Caroline excusing Klaus's bullshit, or like being a push over-y “it's ok, I understand why you did it” person is not for me, bc she never was one to begin w, she never did rationalize or justify Klaus's behaviour, she always held him accountable and told him what a difficult son of a bitch he is every chance she got.

I don't like arcs where Caroline is Klaus's redemption? like Caroline bringing Klaus into the "light" or whatever I am not here for it, like at all, I like Klaus staying evil while being endlessly in love with Caroline, and Caroline being able to be w a man she knows is a selfish evil ruthless grade A asshole, but will literally also choke himself to death for Caroline, cuz the man is whipped as fuck.

But after she rejected him in 2x01 everytime she’s mentioned Damon calls her slutty and evil and a whore. Inch resting

and then immediately moved on to feeling entitled to the closest thing he could to a replacement fix - her doppelganger! even if you lean to “poor damon, he didn’t deserve that, he’s owed katherine :(”, his first instinct to this rebuff was to force himself on a girl who looked just like the one who had just said no to him, and then kill her brother when she did the same thing.  

but the fandom really said, “um, two women daring to reject damon?? it’s their fault he killed jeremy! they shouldn’t have made him sad!” brain worms.

all the women damon has doubtlessly fucked/fed on/discarded over the years, but I’m supposed to feel bad katherine didn’t want to live happily ever after with him. hell, we had a whole mini plot of damon pretending he had feelings for rebekah, and we were supposed to root for him and feel bad when Rebekah retaliated. 

the whole “annoyed/reluctant allies” thing datherine initially had going on was enjoyable. but then it spiraled into katherine being responsible for every horrible thing he went on to do, and being hit over the head with that nonstop once they really started shifting into the concluding “damon is the better man”/”queen of hell” dynamics. and damon not only never extended this “logic” to her situation with klaus, but went so far as to tell her that everything klaus did to her was funny, was yet another character to imply she was horrible for running away, and then pinned everything that klaus retaliated with on her.

In the beggining he loved Kat for 145 years, but then finds out that she’s not in the tumb. Also she told him that she loved Stefan and I think that was the moment when he hated her. I think of them more like frenemies than enemies, beacuse sometimes they get on well with each other. “I'm sorry.  You blame me for who you are, and I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I turned you. Kalijah [Elijah Mikaelson x Katherine Pierce] They had a potencial. Real potencial. They could have been the biggest power couple of this show, but writers ruined it. I think that Katherine truly cared and loved Elijah. Also I think Elijah was still in love with her even though she wasn’t that sweet and innocennt girl he fell for 500 years ago. I’m upset that they didn’t find way back to each other, when they were alive.  I ship Haylijah, but I want more Katherine and Elijah to happen in the afterlife. They deserve to find peace together. Also there’s nothing better Elijah saying “Katerina”. "Because I meant what I said. About my feelings for you. And I'd like to think that you feel something for me too.  I need you to trust me.  I want you to trust me, just like I'm trusting you.” 

Jalaric [Alaric Saltzman x Josette Parker] I really liked them together in s6. I was glad that Alaric finally found happiness. caroline/alaric and their girls, the whole convo where alaric mentioned liz and caroline got it and chose her girls over stefan bc she knew it was the right thing to do regardless of her love for him she’ll always put her girls first AND GUYS THAT WAS SO AWESOME BC ONE OF CAROLINE’S MAIN CHARACTER POINTS WAS GETTING THE GUY AND SHE LET THE GUY GO IN THE END !!!!!

BONLENA REUNION!! both times were glorious

all the defan. all of it. amazing. the whole scene where they were trying to sacrifice themselves for each other and i didn’t want either of them to die but then damon chose to save stefan and compelled him away AND I WAS SOBBING SO HARD AND SCREAMING AT CHAR but i’d also accepted it and was so proud of damon bc it was such a great moment in his journey

and then the plot twist with stefan tricking damon and turning him human and then sacrificing himself instead AND I WAS EVEN MORE OF A MESS BC I DIDN’T WANT IT AND HISTORICALLY I HAVE HATED STEFAN BUT I DIDN’T WANT HIM TO DIE but it was beautiful that he went out saving everyone

the whole stelena goodbye was a nice nod to their relationship even though i never liked it i adored their goodbye scene

the little daroline scene was cute

caroline seeing elena again!! all the girl feels when they were sat on the bench

i did like all the after death reunion scenes and the nods to past characters even if it felt a little too ‘wrap it neatly in a ribbon/all the fuzzy feels/overdone’

all the donovan family feelings were beautiful

now on to the things i didn’t like;

the delena scenes were flat as hell, felt forced, disjointed and just generally Bad

we got no conversation, no last ‘i love you’, no hint of a flashforward into those supposed ‘happy, human lives’

don’t get me wrong i’m content with the endgame and my 12 year old self now feels supremely justified in all her decision makings but it was so U G H purely bc it wasn’t anything

we got the endgame in name only and i didn’t feel it

i have a suspicion most of it was to do with the very obvious bad feeling between ian and nina, though i have to give credit bc i 100% felt everything delena from nina’s side it was ian doing a terrible job which was seriously jarring after how amazing his acting was in the scene with paul when defan were debating who was gonna die

the kiss was awkward, the handholding was awkward, the looks were awkward, EVERYTHING WAS AWKWARD THEY WERE LITERALLY ON SCREEN FOR A MINUTE AND IAN COULDN’T ADULT ENOUGH TO GET THROUGH IT GOOD LORD

but whatever i’m done, it’s over, bye

/side note; the interviews afterwards mean shit to me tbh bc the writers knew that nina was leaving at the beginning of season 6 so if they had ever truly intended stelena to be endgame they had plenty of time to write it and it’s obvious they’re just throwing every fandom a bone bc delena get to claim the endgame but the interviews suggest stelena get to feel justified in thinking stelena was always meant to be

blaming nina leaving is an utterly shitty thing to do so they can fuck off with that nonsense

the bottom line is they wrote the show, they decided the relationship endgames, they CHOSE THE CHARACTER ENDGAMES

their writing is on them and they need to own their decisions and stop trying to appease everyone or shift blame to one fucking actress like she didn’t dedicate her whole damn sanity to the shit they put her through

like the fact she even came back…they didn’t deserve her that’s all i’m gonna say but then they haven’t been deserving kat graham since she arrived so…fuck them basically

like superficially this finale was good as far as finale’s go, i’ve had to deal with a lot worse, but when u pick it apart and get past the glossy happily ever after sheen it’s kinda false to a lot of the relationships and characters

basically i have a lot of mixed feelings on it but i personally got enough that i can now move on without feeling entirely like i wasted 8 years of my life on the show and 12 years on these characters and relationships tho lbr they never really followed the books anyway

the thing i’m most thankful for about this show is the people i’ve met online through it and if the most i can take away from this experience is the friendships i’ve made with other fans then it’s been worth it

I'm laughing at the nonsense. Claiming the vervain necklace is a Stelena thing that the writers tried to make a Delena thing is like claiming roadside feeding is a Datherine thing when it became a Delena thing. Elena doesn’t decide what that necklace means for Damon, just as Stefan doesn’t decide what it means for Elena. It holds meaning for ALL three of them, so it belongs to BOTH ships whether fans like it or not. If it didn’t mean anything to Damon, he wouldn’t be bothering with it. He does because it does. It doesn’t need to mean anything to Elena to be a Delena thing, it's a Delena thing because it holds meaning for Damon. 

If we’re to get technical, the necklace is Damon-centered. Stefan only gave it to Elena to protect her from Damon’s compulsion. Despite him later claiming it was (also) to protect her from him, it was just about protecting her from Damon. “There must be a shred of humanity left inside my brother. Somewhere. I keep hoping. But how do I make him see it? And how do I protect her?”

Lexi made mention to what it represents for Stefan. 

Lexi: That necklace. At least tell me you remember how you felt about that. You found it during your darkest time. And you said, when you made it through, that that necklace represented hope.

Damon and Elena both made mention to what it represents for her. 

Damon: Isn't this the reminder of your unbreakable bond with Stefan?

Elena: He gave me the one thing that represented hope for me and his brother.

The representation it holds for Damon is obvious, since he tried to kiss her in 1x3. Stefan basically tells you that it represents “real love” for Damon. 

Stefan: This isn't about sex or...or compulsion or any of our other tricks. She has to want to be with me on her own terms.

There are two necklaces. One from the prison world, left at Stefan’s grave. The other, left in the Lockwood tunnel in 3x15. Now that Damon is human, he can go get it. And he likely will because it means something to HIM.

Storyline: Hazel is found by Damon Salvatore when she runs away from home to escape the abuse she suffers from her parents. Through him Hazel meets Elena and Stefan who adopt her and take care of her and give her the home and family she deserves. She is able to reclaim her childhood with them, and they love her and accept her even though she is a werewolf. Hazel now has a home, parents, stuffed animals and a family that loves her. She feels like the luckiest child in the world!

i don't think any of this was or could've been datherine, i think that could've been debekah for all the reasons mentioned in the debekah post.

Hey zal, how do you plan on differentiating stefan and damon's behaviour in the datherine and stelena relationships respectively. I mean, stefan knew that damon and katheine were in a physical relationship when he decided to confess his love for her. I ain't saying that damon's repititive self assertion on elena is romantic. So i will stick to that one point in 4.07 where he made out with elena on the same day of stefan's breakup. It was rude af, but stefan made out katherine too, when he knew that damon was involved with her. Maybe i am drawing parallels bw wrong scenes. You could correct me.

Was stefan wrong? If he was, so is damon. Both cared about the girls more than each other.

Even if this was correct, I would still say it’s not comparable because it ignores  that the whole point is that Katherine was the one who was always in control and was the one who chose who to be with at what time, which is why we get lines like this:

It also ignores the heavy implication that even in contemporary times, Stefan doesn’t know the full story but I’ll get to that later.

So this is something I’ve seen Damon fans struggle with: Damon may have been physical with Katherine first but he wasn’t with Katherine first, meaning that the first Salvatore Katherine actually shows interest in, the Salvatore Katherine actually picks (even before the retcon in 5x11) is Stefan, right when she shows up to the Salvatore Mansion for the very first time in 1864:

But Stefan hesitates

so despite seeing this attraction, Damon goes after her and puts himself in the running:

But even when Damon and Katherine have a sexual relationship

she says that she will be lonely without Damon when he leaves for the war and he says that Stefan will keep her company so she says

Which indicates that she was still seeing Stefan, still being courted by Stefan, still in some kind of entanglement with Stefan, she just got dicked down by Damon first. This is further proven when Stefan takes Katherine to the ball, he says this:

Him saying that he’s in competition for her affections means that he thinks that both he and Damon are trying to win her hand so he actually didn’t know they were together, he didn’t know that Damon was behind the door, listening to everything,

he didn’t know they’d been physical:

At the point of the Founders Ball, Stefan thinks that a choice between the two of them still exists

whereas Damon actually makes fun of Stefan for being so forward because he’s in on something that Stefan isn’t, which is that he’s already fucking Katherine

It isn’t until after they have sex and she compelled him that Stefan realizes that she had a plan for a coerced polyamorous relationship all along

Like I don’t understand why it’s so difficult for people to realize that Katherine manipulated the shit out of Stefan and Damon stood back and watched but somehow reach the conclusion that Stefan giving Elena her diary in 1x01 is a diabolical plan. It’s really akin to the anons who ask me if Caroline was too judgemental about Damon and Elena and a bad friend to Elena but don’t even consider that Elena was a bad friend to Caroline by fucking her rapist.

NOT TO MENTION, that even if this was correct, you are comparing Stefan hitting on Katherine even though she slept with Damon first (because that’s all Stefan would know about the matter) with Damon sleeping with Elena the day after she broke up with Stefan when he was privy to the knowledge that Stefan had resisted compulsion for Elena, had taken bullets for Elena, had fought off werewolves for Elena, had vowed to die for Elena, had been so deeply, profoundly, irrevocably, head-over-heels, us-against-the-world in LOVE with Elena and that is just ridiculous.

Because when Stefan say this:
