just wanted to add some thoughts to the memory vial/brain dead au (or whatever we're calling it)

because of course ford's guilt about using the memory gun on stan is so much worse than it is in canon, not just for the obvious reasons but also because like

this wasn't the plan

Stan agreed to have his memories erased—of course he did, the whole thing was his idea. But he didn't know he was going to die. Granted, I feel like Stan probably still would've been willing to make that sacrifice if he had known that. But I don't think Ford would've.

Ford just thought he was turning his brother into an amnesiac, and even then he almost couldn't bring himself to pull the trigger. And of course he knew it was going to hurt, having Stan look at him like he's a stranger, but at least that's the outcome he was preparing himself for.

He was not prepared to see Stan's body topple over on its side, his unblinking eyes staring blankly ahead. Ford rushes to his brother's aid, grabbing him by the shoulders, trying to rouse him, calling his name (except, he wouldn't know his own name anymore, would he?). Stan's not moving. He's not breathing. Oh God, he's not breathing. Ford glances at the memory gun on the ground next to them, and horror washes over him as he realizes what he's done. The gun erased more than just memories, it erased everything. Stan's brain was a floppy drive and Ford was the magnet, wiping it clean and leaving it broken beyond repair.

No, no, this wasn't the plan. Time to call off the con. This wasn't supposed to happen. Stop, cut, abort mission, abort mission!

But it's too late. What's done is done, and he can't take it back.

Oh God, I killed him.

Sobbing now, Ford mutters choked-out apologies, first to Stan's body as he holds him tight—and again at his grave after he's buried. And the apologies start up anew every time he visits.

As the years go on, Ford is haunted by all the what-ifs that might've saved his brother's life. What if he had thought to type "Stanley Pines memories" into the memory gun instead of just "Stanley Pines", would it have kept his essential brain functions intact? Hell, what if he typed in "Bill Cipher"? Would that have been enough to kill the bastard and still let Stanley keep most of his memories and, more importantly, his life?

Ford doesn't know the answer to that question. And he'll never know. Because as much as he longs for it, he'll never have that chance to go back and do it differently.

I need to marinate more thoughts for this but. okay so gravity falls au. partially inspired by this. fiddleford has the memory gun and he's This Close to using it on himself to erase what he saw in the portal. he pauses. he thinks, just because I forget doesn't mean stanford will stop building the portal. he thinks it's all or nothing. he goes to stanford's shack in the woods. he sneaks in through the side door and sees stanford sleeping on the couch. it's dark outside. the lights are out. fiddleford can barely make out the shape of his former-friend's body. fiddleford looks at Stanford one last time. he types into the memory gun, Stanford Pines. he points the gun. half a second before he fires, Stanford stirs, as if sensing the danger he is in. he manages to get out "who-" before fiddleford, panicking, pulls the trigger before he can chicken out completely.

stanley wakes up on a couch he doesn't remember falling asleep in, with a terrified looking man standing over him, holding a glowing gun, and thinks this is one hell of a situation i've gotten myself into

I've read a lot of headcanons and theories that try to explain why Fiddleford went from taller than the Stan twins to much shorter.

and sure terrible posture is partially to blame, but look at how all of McGucket is just smaller.

Gotta love how half the fandom struggles with Stan getting his memories back within a week starting his therapy 30 min after the wipe. But my man Fiddleford over here wiped his mind blank 30 years ago and it took him, like, one month at most to remember it all before even meeting Ford again

guys I have an au idea, hear me out on this

a gravity falls au thats a jekyll and hyde type deal, with ford being jekyll and bill being hyde

(I know something similar has probably already been done before and that so many animatics have been made with them and confrontation but LET ME COOK CHAT)

also I may or may not have accidentally developed a little bit of an obsession with the strange case of dr jekyll and mr hyde so if anyone wants to yap about it with me PLEASE LET ME KNOW I NEED TO YAP ABOUT THIS TO SOMEONE

You defend Ford a lot, which is fine he needs a lot of defending. But do you think he's still got faults? With his ego and stuff.

Oh of course.

I say a lot that he's not at fault for turning out the way he did, but that doesn't mean the way in which he exacted his behaviour was faultless. You're still responsible for hurting people, no matter the reason behind it.

He isn't inherently a bad person because he knows he's done wrong and he regrets and apologises for it. It's up to the people that he hurt to forgive him and they tell us themselves that they don't think that he's a bad person for the way he acted.

I do believe that he got very sick (probably isolation sickness plus obsessive tendencies, combined with other poor mental health issues and then Bill's horrendous abuse making all of those things a million times worse) and became too unwell to be helped by people who weren't capable of dealing with such intense illness. He kept a lot to himself and that didn't help, either. He's an S-tier repressor.

I also believe the characters that he is linked to (Stan, Fidds) knew that and that contributed to their accepting of his apology. They knew it wasn't really the true version of the person they cared so deeply for doing those things, but was actually his illnesses and outside influences. Doesn't mean Ford wasn't in the wrong or that they weren't hurt, though.

So yeah, ultimately, he has a lot of faults and those faults die hard, but they don't make him a bad person and it's very tone deaf to examine those faults in a vacuum without considering the context in which they occur :)

Summary: The main character in this au is Tord. He lost all his memories (with the erased gun), Tord doesn't know his name anymore or what happened before he wakes up. He's alone and injured and tries to survive until Edd finds him in an alley and take him at his apartment but Tom and Matt didn't know that Edd is keeping their old friend and now enemie, what will do Edd to make Tord remember him and the others?
