“babe,” rafe called from the kitchen, his voice already laced with suspicion. “why are you so quiet? you make me nervous when you’re that quiet.” you popped your head around the corner, a smile plastered on your face. “nothing. definitely not sniffing your hoodie.”

“you were… sniffing my hoodie?”

“…no,” you replied, entirely unconvincing. “i was deeply analysing its scent profile.” his eyes narrowed as he caught sight of you holding his hoodie up to your nose like some sort of deranged fabric sommelier.

“you’re so weird.”

“you smell nice. sue me.” you shot back, tossing the hoodie onto the couch before wandering into the kitchen.

“dork.”

you climbed onto a stool, propping your chin in your hands as you watched him. “rafey. are you making me dinner? huh. is this husband behavior?” he gave you a sidelong glance. “you’re literally just getting pasta. from a box.”

“you’re right. definitely husband material,” you chirped, hopping off the stool to sneak up behind him. you slipped your hands under his shirt to poke at his stomach. he rolled his eyes but didn’t pull away, turning back to the cutting board where he was slicing carrots. your hands settled on his waist, and he sighed, his shoulders tensing.

“don’t—”

“don’t what?” you asked innocently as you slid your hands higher, brushing against his abs. “don’t do this?”

“don’t—” his words trailed off as you traced your fingers over his firm stomach, genuinely impressed by how solid it was under your touch. “huh. you might actually be working out for something other than thirst traps.”

“woman,” he groaned, dropping the knife onto the counter and twisting to glare at you. “why are you like this?”

“because i’m hot,” you said, grinning up at him with zero shame, “and also hilarious.”

“you’re exhausting, that’s what you are.” he deadpanned, trying (and failing) to sound annoyed. “that’s not what you said last night,” you quipped, pressing a loud, obnoxious kiss to his bicep. rafe sighed again, picking up the knife to finish chopping. “do you ever stop talking?”

“nope,” you said, stealing a slice of carrot and dodging his half-hearted attempt to grab it back.

“if you keep this up, you’re not getting any pasta,” he threatened, pointing the knife at you. you grinned, popping the carrot into your mouth. “oooh, threaten me more. it’s kinda sexy when you’re holding a weapon, cameron.”

he groaned, shaking his head as you cackled.
