what id get the characters from the outsiders for Christmas:

ponyboy- therapy and a really nice journal

Johnny- a chocolate cupcake and I’d wash his jacket

Sodapop- brownies where I add too much cocoa powder and add frosting on top as well. And a girlfriend who doesn’t leave him.

Darry- a really good hug and a professional massage

two bit- marcia

ace- a pretty dress

Marcia- two bit

Cherry- a good nights sleep and a really good hug

Chet- a kick in the face (lovingly)

Paul- a gay flag

trip- a punch in the face

Bev- more cigarettes!!

Melvin- aces number

Sergei- a kiss with his best friend

mmmm thinking about the socs not being able to move on from bob’s death because that’s the first time their actions have had consequences and bob subsequently not being able to move on in death so he’s tethered to tulsa still. bob not knowing what else to do with his afterlife so he follows his friends.

he watches bev and brill who somehow are still tough skinned and thriving. he follows brill to his grave sometimes and listens as brill talks to him and pours one out for him. on the rare occasion bev goes to visit his grave he listens to her call him a stupid idiot through sobs and he longs to comfort her

he watches marcia and his heart aches for her when she starts pulling away from trip because he knows how much they liked each other. he use to think they were a (better) version of him and cherry

he watches chet who goes looking for more fights a lot more often. he watches chet a lot if only because he sees himself a lot in him and he’s scared chet is going to join him real soon.

he watches melvin and sergei a lot too. he hardly knew them but they were the same age as ponyboy curtis and kinda just wants to make sure no one goes after them like he did the curtis kid

most of all, he watches cherry. they broke up and that was probably the scariest moment in his life, including when he got stabbed. not doing right by cherry is probably his biggest regret. he regrets bringing the liquor to the drive in that night, he regrets even going to the nightly double drive in period.

but he watches cherry go through the motions after he died. he watches their friends blame cherry for his death wishing he could say something because it was never cherrys fault. he was blindsided by rage and liquor that night but there wasn’t a single part of bob that blamed cherry. because the thing is he knew he was being irrational, he knew it was absurd to get angry at cherry for talking to a little kid but bobs always been jealous when it came to cherry and he’s always been quick to fly off the handle even when he’s sober. so no, his getting angry and going after those kids and getting himself killed was never cherrys fault and it pissed him off when everyone accused cherry.

bob watches cherry and how she goes through the motions. he watches her through herself back into her school and volunteer work. he watches her when she goes in her backyard to watch the sun rise every morning. he watches her take away their beach boys albums and put them in a shelf in her closet.

most importantly he watches cherry when she finally learns to let go of him. he watches in real time as cherry stops blaming herself and allows herself to start dating other people again. and he’s not real fond of the guy, dr pepper or something he doesn’t really care, but if the guy makes cherry happy (and he does, he hasn’t seen cherry smile so bright and for so long since way before he died) then he’s alright with a cherry dating a greaser of all things- sorry, of all people.

Okay so I found this picture of Pinterest and highkey. It has me CRYING. And let me tell you why!!!

Both Soda and Darry are compared to their dad in the book, and while I can't really recall at the moment if any of them were compared to their mother, I'm gonna go at the personal headcanon that Ponyboy was compared to her quite a lol in a similar way to Soda and Darry being compared to their dad. But see here- their mom is blonde. Soda in the book is blond, but I feel like it's an entirely different ballgame when Ponyboy bleaches his hair. When Darry and Soda reunite with him and after the pure joy and relief that he was alive...I just imagine a sense of unease. Seeing him with the blond hair- the comparisons to their mother hadn't completely clicked until then. It makes them feel...a lot of things. But above all, there is a harsh mixture of grief and love. For both their mother and Ponyboy.

Something something Sergei walking past Pony and Johnny and seeing how comfortable they are with just being affectionate, with their hands grazing eachother and an arm around a shoulder as one throws their head back laughing, and some small, selfish part of Sergei wishes he could do that with Melvin. But he can’t, so he settles for kisses behind closed doors with the excuse of “practicing” and stolen touches as they drift to sleep.

Given that Melvin is Trip’s little brother and Sergei is Melvin’s age it stands to reason that they could both be in some of Ponyboy’s classes. Imagine how rancid the vibes must be after the events of the show

Okay nobody asked for it and nobody probably cares but here is my extensive lists of headcannons and theories regarding Melvin. (Picture me standing in front of a whiteboard with the red string on it and stuff)

1. you cannot convince me that that boy is over the age of twelve. Like he walks twelve, he talks twelve, he makes twelve facial expressions like I could go on. He’s just such a silly little man. And like just imagine a twelve year old boy stubbornly going to the rumble and bringing his twelve year old friend with him and them thinking they are the shit

2. I like to think that he could be the opposite of Ponyboy in a way, like obviously Pony is older than him but still I feel like his older brother (I forget which Soc that is) tried to make him stay home from the rumble but he really wanted to fight.

3. in a live Dan Berry casually stated that he loves the fan theory that no one knows who Melvin is and he just kind of showed up at the rumble. This leads me to believe that Melvin is the illegitimate (because he’s a Curtis) younger brother of whatever Soc (I think it’s brill but I’m probably wrong) who has been kept secret and suddenly escapes and decides to fight in the rumble and nobody has any idea who he is except brill (or whoever) who’s just like “god damnit I forgot to lock the door again moms gonna kill me”

4. Okay so I propose that Ponyboy was secretly a twin right. It was him and Melvin but Melvin was accidentally given to another family. (Don’t ask me how the Curtis’s just straight up forgot they had another child okay life happens and sometimes things like that slip your mind)
