This is such a beautiful piece of domestic fluff with soft Shauna! I really loved reading it and am in AWE of your writing! It's so beautiful and poetic! And the imagery is AMAZING!
Sorry this reblog is a long one, I hope you don't mind!
The morning is warm as you embrace it. The sun is gentle as it glows in through the windows, it searches to greet you in its light. It envelops the kitchen, wrapping you in its comfort, a distraction from the cold tile floors under your bare feet.
That opening paragraph is so beautiful! It's so poetic and you immediately create such a strong visual! I love it!
Summer has brought you abundance, the earth sings with it.
Another pretty image! I really love your choice of words "the earth sings with it." Just stunning!
There is only room for serenity here, and it shows in the calm of Shauna’s expression – once haunted and usually so, but as she walks with you she is content.
I love the use of haunted with Shauna's expression and that she becomes content. She deserves some peace!!!
She sighs and points to a rabbit sitting at the edge of your yard. The creature stares back at her, and you half expect Shauna to claim it’s trying to size her up. You suppress a smile – you’re relieved you won’t be staying up tonight trying to fight any human neighbors out of your garden, that Shauna’s concern lies with the rabbits.
That was written soooooo in character for Shauna! I literally heard Melanie Lynskey's sigh while reading it! But yes, Shauna's one-sided beef with rabbits is back in full bloom!
Shauna is methodical in her observations, you do not understand the hidden details she sees in the plants and soil, but you appreciate what has come from the work as you gather a handful of what’s ready for harvest. You look down at a generous mix of vegetables and berries in your arms, small treasures that remind you of the love that bore them.
You really capture Shauna so well! She's such a thinker and is very much in her head with a lot of thoughts. But also the last sentence in that paragraph is so gorgeous and sweet!
A soft smile captures her lips as she studies you, and you feel the pressure of her gaze pleasantly. There is love in her eyes, it swallows you whole.
Yes for soft and loving Shauna!!!!
Shauna rests on the sofa, reading something – a book about a cult if you recall, something far more brutal than you would suspect from the way she sits so pleasantly immersed.
I'm sorry but this made me laugh!!! It also reminded me of the scene in Serial Mom where Sam Waterston looks through Kathleen Turner's stuff, he thinks she's been reading bird books but it's actually serial killer/murder themed books.
the knowledge that your work lives in the earth, and it will come back as a reward to you – a labor of love, it will help nourish you through the coming winter.
I love your earthy images and connections in writing! It's just so beautiful and makes me smile!
Thank you so much for writing this masterpiece!

– 8:00 AM –
The morning is warm as you embrace it. The sun is gentle as it glows in through the windows, it searches to greet you in its light. It envelops the kitchen, wrapping you in its comfort, a distraction from the cold tile floors under your bare feet.
You lean against the kitchen counter, looking out the window above the sink into the garden. Summer has brought you abundance, the earth sings with it. Shauna stands looking over your plants, a cup of coffee in her hands as she examines them.
Deeply, you inhale. The house is filled with the mixed scents of lavender and mint, from a floral candle you’ve burnt almost down to the wick and from the tea you hold. You take a sip of it, and your eyes fall closed for a moment in the gentle pull of the breeze coming in through the open window. The morning is timeless as you take it in.
You set your tea down, and still barefoot you slip outside. You follow the path into the garden, joining Shauna.
She looks back as you approach and smiles softly. You extend a hand to her and she takes it – as you walk through the garden together, you are able to breathe peacefully in the quiet space shared between the two of you. There is only room for serenity here, and it shows in the calm of Shauna’s expression – once haunted and usually so, but as she walks with you she is content.
Shauna stops in front of the tomato plant. She furrows her eyebrows, looking down at it curiously before turning to you. Her expression is serious as says, “The neighbors have been stealing our tomatoes.”
You pause. You’re alarmed as you picture one of your neighbors crawling over your fence like a bandit in the night and stuffing a bag full of tomatoes – you mentally sort through everyone in your neighborhood, calculating the likeliness of who would be so jealous of your garden that they would steal from you. It’s the last problem you ever envisioned having with a small garden in the suburbs.
“The neighbors?” you ask after a moment. You shake your head. “Which ones?”
You watch as she surveys the rest of the garden.
– 12:00 PM –
A day of comfort, though a day of work, and a day of caution – through almost burning the kitchen down trying to cook with Shauna, you have found a flow between you while cooking together, and attempt to maintain it.
You have time today. For once you and Shauna are able to cook lunch together, and to do so without the stress of work or outside obligation weighing down on you. It’s peaceful – Shauna has banished you to the cutting board in her pursuit to conquer the kitchen, and you stand in complacency as you chop a series of fresh vegetables the two of you harvested from the garden this morning.
Your movements are careful as you complete your task. It dawns on you again and again, that you are in no rush, you have everything you could ever need around you and nothing can reach you here. You are at home in a tranquil rhythm.
Shauna comes to look over your shoulder at your work. She hums in what you take as approval, placing her hands on your waist and watching your movements.
You place the knife down and turn to face her. A soft smile captures her lips as she studies you, and you feel the pressure of her gaze pleasantly. There is love in her eyes, it swallows you whole.
“You’re good at this,” she says, and you look at her skeptically.
“At chopping vegetables?”
Shauna rolls her eyes. “I mean at this,” she says, gesturing to the rest of the kitchen – something neither of you are able to touch, though something both of you are able to feel. “What we have here feels like home.”
You nod – always would you agree with her when it came to this, that you were lucky together in every regard in the solitude you shared together, how you were cut off from the rest of the world by choice and intention.
Shauna leans closer to you, taking a step forward that presses you gently against the counter. You feel your breath hitch at the sudden closeness, and you’re certain she means to kiss you when she pulls away — cutting board from behind you now in hand.
You stand still for a moment, feeling a bit dejected as you watch her slide the contents of the cutting board into a pan on the stove.
When Shauna turns her gaze to you, there’s something teasing in it. She moves back to you, and as if reading your mind she closes the gap between you and pulls you into a kiss. In her arms you feel at home, you feel at peace.
– 9:00 PM –
Soft moonlight rests over the garden. It pours over every plant, blessing your labor in a silver glow – you feel the peace of it as you watch from the kitchen window, two newly poured glasses of wine in hand. You are filled with pride, all you have is as it should be, it is beautiful.
Taking the glasses of wine with you, you leave the kitchen for the living room. Shauna rests on the sofa, reading something – a book about a cult if you recall, something far more brutal than you would suspect from the way she sits so pleasantly immersed.
She looks up from it for a moment as you sit down and hand her one of the wine glasses, murmuring a quiet thank you, placing her book on the coffee table and shifting to wrap an arm around your shoulders. Warmth is radiated from her – it wraps around you with the same serenity of the night.
The wine is sweet on your tongue, though bitter enough to keep you present as you are come over with the day’s exhaustion. It’s a pleasant sensation, the aching of your muscles brought about by the work you did in the garden with Shauna after lunch again and the knowledge that your work lives in the earth, and it will come back as a reward to you – a labor of love, it will help nourish you through the coming winter.
You lean into Shauna. It is endlessly calming to have her beside you – your love growing under the same moonlight as the garden you have cherished, and it will nourish you through the coming winter.

Okay y’all, Yellowjackets is filming at the mall by my house, they are apparently filming on Wednesdays (either on the 10th or 17th). I hate the mall, but I love Yellowjackets. 💛
Should I lurk at the mall on Wednesdays in hope of seeing them filming?
(I do really really REALLY wanna see Melanie Lynskey)

Probably unpopular opinions:
YELLOWJACKETS: Engrossing but half-baked Showtime horror-thriller series, obviously inspired by the TV show LOST and the real-life Uruguayan rugby team lost in the Andes in 1972, about a suburban high school girls' soccer team that descends into madness while stranded for two years in the wilderness following a plane crash in the mid-1990s, split between the period leading up to and following the crash, with the characters as teenagers, and the present day, where the rescued survivors are now maladjusted adults struggling to live down what happened to them 25 years earlier.
While the show's dark humor and assorted plot mysteries command attention, it's marred by a growing sense, even in the more tightly written first season, that many of the questions have no actual answers, and the showrunners are basically just winging it — unwise with a series this structurally complicated, and the same mistake that eventually reduced LOST to an extended shaggy-dog joke.
The plot holes really begin to accumulate in the clumsy, badly paced second season, which leaves the capable adult actors struggling to navigate obvious gaps in their characters' histories and interrelationships that the writers haven't yet gotten around to mapping out, and causes what are supposed to be fireworks-laden confrontations to fizzle ineffectually. An initially amusing plotline about the adult Shawna (Melanie Lynskey) trying to cover up a murder with the help of her loyal but useless husband (Warren Kole) and snotty teenage daughter (Sarah Desjardins) eventually reveals itself as a weak imitation knockoff of SANTA CLARITA DIET that doesn't know when to pivot, and the introduction of Elijah Wood as a (ludicrous) hetero love interest for the adult Misty (Christina Ricci) creates an obvious tension between Ricci's decision to play Misty as a closeted lesbian in love with Natalie (Juliette Lewis) and the writers' apparent determination to there-homo the main characters.
However, the biggest problems with YELLOWJACKETS remain the show's ongoing reluctance to make up its mind about whether it's a psychological thriller or a supernatural horror story in the mode of Stephen King's THE SHINING — an ambiguity that's more exasperating than intriguing — and the troubling fact that the characters of color are consistently treated far more brutally (and more dismissively) than any of the white characters.

Seriously though, as a woman with her body type, seeing a character like Shauna who has a gorgeous, conventionally attractive husband and a younger lover without her weight being mentioned once in the show is something that is so amazing. It shouldn’t be rare, but it really is. More absolute babes who have different body types please.
Lynskey says she loves engaging with the fan theories surrounding Yellowjackets, but she’s been somewhat dismayed by those who can’t seem to believe that Adam (Peter Gadiot), the hunky young artist Shauna has an affair with, may harbor genuine interest in her character. “I’m just like, ‘Wow, really? That’s where people’s heads are at, that the most important thing is being thin or young?’ ” she says. (Perhaps more perplexing to her, if amusing: the fan theory that Adam is Shauna’s wilderness baby. “Why would his revenge plot be to come back and fuck his mother?”)
It wasn’t just online trolls being passive-aggressively insulting. Lynskey says a member of the Yellowjackets production commented critically on her body during filming: “They were asking me, ‘What do you plan to do? I’m sure the producers will get you a trainer. They’d love to help you with this.’ ” Her three veteran co-stars, Cypress, Ricci, and Juliette Lewis, banded together to support Lynskey, with Lewis in particular writing a letter to the producers on her behalf. It all seems to be a litmus test for how, even post-MeToo, Hollywood still views women of Lynskey’s age and size as essentially disposable, something Lynskey feels she has a responsibility to try to change through her role on Yellowjackets.
