Identity V characters as Music
Tumblr media
(I did skip some because I had no idea what to do for them. Also Major spoiler warning)
Masterlist
Survivors
Emily Dyer (doctor)
Nurses Office by Melanie Martinez.
For obvious reasons
Freddy Riley (Lawyer)
The Fine Print by The Stupendium
He mentions in his backstory that he hopes to find a better job than the "menial" job he has with a low wage.
Kreacher Pierson (Thief)
Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson
He literally steals parts from the ciphers.
Emma Woods (Gardener)
Dandelions by Ruth B.
A happy song for a happy character. (Emma is literally so cute, she deserves it)
Servais Le Roy (The magician)
Circus by Brittney Spears
Where do we find magicians? A circus...
Martha Behamfil (Coordinator)
Bang! by AJR
Martha has a gun. That's it.
Fiona Gilman (Priestess)
W.I.T.C.H by Devon Cole
I was gonna go with Dragula by Rob Zombie but that felt too aggressive for Fiona.
Tracy Reznik (Mechanic)
Puppet Boy by Devo
It has the cheerful sound to it like Tracy does but I chose this song because I love her mechanical dolls (they underrated).
Vera Nair (Perfumer)
Francis Forever by Mitski
I feel like this song sums up how Vera felt after murdering her sister.
Kevin Ayuso (Cowboy)
Country Girl by Luke Bryan
I gave him the most southern song I could physically think of.
Margaretha Zelle (Female Dancer)
Liquid Smooth by Mitski
I think this song shows how Margaretha felt and how she saw herself just before coming to the manor.
Sergei (Weeping Clown or Joker)
Cigarette duet by Princess Chelsea
This song is pretty much a nutshell of when Sergei was having problems with Margaretha and was trying to convince her to stay with him.
Aesop Carl (Embalmer)
Coraline Opening Song
If you paid attention to when the other mother is making the doll then you can see when she lays the great aunts doll on what looks like a kit of some kind then you can see that it's an embalming kit. (My favorite movie song for my main)
Norton Campbell
Wolf in Sheep's Clothing by Set It Off
I saw somebody use it in an edit when he attacked Orpheus and Melly so I think this song fits.
Patricia Dorval (Enchantress)
Come Little Children from the Hocus Pocus 1993 film
I always got the vibe that Patricia is very family oriented and tries to avoid social conflict when she can so a peaceful song like this literally being sung by a witch is something Patricia would enjoy. (I love this woman so much)
Mike Morton
Freak by Sub Urban
I couldn't really think of one without repeating so I decided on this one.
Demi Bourbon
Alcoholic Friends by Dresden Dolls
I think this was how she felt after her brother got the invitation to the manor.
Victor Grantz
Message man by Twenty One Pilots
I think this song fits him because I'd imagine he's very observant since he's so quiet so not a lot of people know much about him but he knows a lot about others.
Andrew Kreiss
Tears to Shed from the Corpse Bride film
The movie is about death and the song is about comparing yourself to others. Nothing else fits quite like this one does. (I can't describe how much I adore Andrew)
Luca Balsa ("Prisoner)
Welcome to the Internet- Bo Burnham
I feel like Luca matches the overall chaotic vibes this song has and he would probably explain the internet just like Burnham did (very quickly and kinda passive aggressively)
Melly Plinus (Entomologist)
Entomologist by GHOST
Need I say more
Edgar Valden (Painter)
My Ordinary Life by The Living Tombstones
This song sounds happy like Edgar
Ganji Gupta (Batter)
The Sports Wii theme song
This is what he gets for beating up my poor Geisha during rank
Anne Lester (Toy Merchant)
Pogo- Living Island
A cheerful song because she deserves it (I have a soft spot for Anne mains)
Ada and Emil (Phycologist and the Patient)
Dark Red by Steve Lacy
I love their relationship so much
Orpheus (Novelist)
Satisfied by Marina and The Diamonds.
I don't know, just seems fitting.
Alice Deross (Journalist)
Ramalama (bang, bang) by Róisín Murphy
If you've ever heard this song, you know exactly why I chose this song.
Hunters
Leo Beck ( Hell Ember)
We'll meet again- Vera Lynn
This song is probably something he would listen to on repeat to hope that it will help him reunite with Emma. (I'm gonna cry)
Jack (The Ripper)
Run Rabbit Run by Flanagan and Allen
I have a feeling that he's one of those killers that taunts his victims so this song fits.
Violetta (Soul Weaver)
Spider's Web by Melanie Martinez (my favorite portals song)
She's literally a giant spider. (And I love her for that)
Michiko (Geisha)
Washing Machine Heart by Mitski
Michiko just wanted to marry the man the man she loved but it was ripped away by her lovers father. (I wanna give my main a hug so bad)
Joseph Desaulniers (Photographer)
Paparazzi by Lady Gaga
You saw this coming, don't lie to me
Burke Lapadura (Mad Eyes)
Rainbow Factory by Glaze
He works on machines and stuff. I don't know, I'm running out of ideas.
Yidhra (Dream Witch)
Puppet Boy by Devo
This is the only song I'm repeating because it fits so well.
Robbie (The Axe Boy)
Teenage Dirt Bag by Wheatus
I feel like it matches his energy as a kid with way too much energy and mischief in his little body.
Mary (Bloody Queen)
Where's your Head at? by Basement Jaxx
You could say she lost her head....I'm done.
BonBon (Guard 26)
Blow! By Ke$ha
His ability is that he can make these explosive thingies when he chair someone.
Ann ("Disciple")
Brutus us by the Buttress
This song was the first thing that came to mind when I saw her, obviously.
Antonio Paganini (Violinist)
Sex with a Ghost by Teddy Hyde
I feel like the "woman in the mirror" could be replaced by the devil he made a deal with.
Galatea Claude (Sculptor)
Breezeblocks by Alt-J
This perfectly describes how I think Galatea felt when her statue was destroyed by her father.
Percy (Undead)
Zydrate Anatomy by Alexa PenaVega, Paris Hilton, and Terrance Zdunich
Another song I can't really explain why but it feels right.
Grace (Naiad)
Siren by Kailee Morgue
Perfect for Naiad by the title alone.
Phillipe (Wax Artist)
Hidden in the Sand by Tally Hall
His backstory has always freaked me out a bit since he literally has a corpse covered in wax glued(?) to his shoulder.
Keigan Nicholas Keogh (Clerk)
The Principle by Melanie Martinez
I feel like Clerk would be the kind of person to subconsciously abuse her power like the principle does.
Alva Lorenz (Hermit)
Rat by Penelope Scott
Alva says he will never know the true answers to humanity so I feel like this song fits into that phrase.
Ithaqua (Night Watch)
Below the Surface by Griffinilla
This song was the first thing to come to mind for him so I'm gonna keep it.
Sangria (Opera Singer)
Ballad of Jane Doe from the Ride the Cyclone musical
Jane doe hits some of the highest notes in this song I've ever seen in a musical and I just feel like Sangria would really like this song.

Did some Mortasheen AU busts, since I’ve never done any of them in color and haven’t posted some at all (Jon, Sasha, Tim, Martin, Melanie, Georgie). Some notes:
Sasha having facial hair has nothing to do with her being a mutant, it’s actually a HC I’ve had since I experimented with the TMA cast having facial hair and realized it was kinda cute. I figured she'd probably shave because you know, beauty standards, but I can’t imagine Mortasheen would have that same kind of social pressure. Anyway, she does have more mutant traits but they’re below the neck.
Since Mortasheen!Tim is based on my Stranger!Tim, his body type, is similarly, uh... radial.
For the purposes of having fewer humans in my Mortasheen stuff, I think Martin might have actually been a Gilman before getting reincarnated, which funnily enough means that his non-skeletal parts look more “human” than they did before he became a monster... got those parts from Junjo, after all.
Melanie was born with five functional eyes and one that was missing an iris and was, like in the regular universe, intentionally
I could def. do more because I do have a few more character designs in mind.

Last Song: “American Idiot” from the American Idiot Broadway musical. listen sometimes you just gotta listen to a jukebox musical based exclusively off angry pop punk and scream DON’T WANNA BE AN AMERICAN IDIOT, even though you are not, technically, an American. I like to imagine one of those cringe mega crossovers in my head where everybody’s in theatre and assign people to belt lines and in this case I have a fun little staging thing where Richie Tozier is on guitar and Eddie Kaspbrak is on drums and they get SUPER competitive over solos. anyway.
Favorite Color: yellow
Last Movie: Wonder Woman 1984 bc I’m apparently not sick of superhero movies! I miss them. I miss them a lot. I do wish they knew how to maintain emotional continuity and reality and characterizations across movies, tho. drives me nuts that the fandom tends to be the ones coming up with more compelling storylines than the actual people in charge - like, the hell, stop making us do your jobs for you, Jesus Christ. that having been said I really liked WW 1984! it made me weep like a baby. I do think there were plotting issues here and there but overall it did great.
Last Show: uhhhhhhh. I don’t remember?? oh wait. The Stand, the new one. I’ve seen both episodes out so far and it’s REALLY good.
Currently Watching: listen we’re gonna be here all fucking day if I have to answer this. for now just be satisfied with the fact that my Netflix To Watch list fucking hates me.
Currently Reading: ALSO A LOT. highlights though are the following: The Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir (very fun! first book is space And Then There Were None, second book shifts into intrigue and exploration of trauma), Something to Talk About by Meryl Wilsner (PA and big star fall in love! but they’re such dumbasses about it! also they’re lesbians!), Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero (Mystery Inc expies grow up, find out their last big case as children was actually far more real than they thought), The Hunger by Alma Katsu (The Donner Party But With A Supernatural Twist), Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia (socialite goes to see her married cousin and gets tangled up in cousin’s in-laws’ unsavory supernatural bullshit, warnings for one character buying fully into eugenics and general white people terribleness), God Stalk by PC Hodgell (first book of the Kencyrath), The Dragon Republic by RF Kuang (second book of the Poppy War series featuring Fang Runin, tw war and war crimes committed by protagonists and antagonists), Silver on the Road by Laura Anne Gilman (alternate history Weird West novel featuring teenager raised in the devil’s territory in the West who becomes his hand and enforcer when she comes of age), a lot of Stephen King (Christine, 11/22/63, Desperation and The Regulators, The Dark Half, The Stand, Under the Dome, Rose Madder, Needful Things, Dolores Claiborne) and a shitton of nonfiction.
particular nonfiction highlights: Mara Wilson’s personal essay collection (Where Am I Now?), Dr. Jen Gunter’s no-nonsense guide to the vagina (The Vagina Bible), Margot Lee Shetterly’s Hidden Figures, Elton John’s memoir (Me), Colin Dickey’s collection of haunted spaces (Ghostland), Aaron Mahnke’s Lore books, Randy Shilts’ sprawling history of LGBT people in the US military (Conduct Unbecoming), a guide to ethical polyamory by Janet Hardy and Dossie Easton (The Ethical Slut), a collection of Toni Morrison’s essays and speeches (A Mouth Full Of Blood), an oral history about the gay rights movement by Eric Marcus (Making Gay History), and a book about the women who pioneered speculative fiction and horror by Lisa Kroger and Melanie Anderson (Monster She Wrote).
Salty, sweet or savory: sweet.
Craving: I want KitKat. I want crunchy but sweet.
Coffee or tea: coffee, but like with a lot of milk and a lot of sugar.

Here’the Dwayne McDuffie Award for Kids’ Comics 2018 shortlist via The Beat:
As the Crow Flies, by Melanie Gilman, features Charlie Lamonte—thirteen years old, queer, black, and questioning what was once a firm belief in God—during a summer vacation stint at an all-white Christian youth backpacking camp.
The Backstagers Volume 1: Rebels without Applause, by James Tynion IV and Rian Sygh, follows transfer student Jory to an all-boys private high school, where he’s taken in by the only group that doesn’t treat him like a new kid, the lowly stage crew known as the Backstagers.
Garbage Night, by Jen Lee, takes readers to a barren and ransacked post-apocalyptic suburbia, where a dog named Simon—along with his two best friends, a raccoon and a deer—scavenges for food and awaits the return of the hallowed “garbage night.”
I am Alfonso Jones, by Tony Medina, Stacey Robinson and John Jennings, stars an African-American teen who loves to play trumpet and dreams of playing the lead in his school’s hip-hop rendition of Hamlet, but who becomes the victim of a police shooting, and watches from the afterlife as his family and friends struggle for justice.
It’s Treason, by George! by Steve Hockensmith, Chris Kientz and Lee Nielsen, takes four friends on a time-traveling adventure to undo the work of plotters who have turned American history upside-down and replaced over two hundred years of democracy with the rule of monarchs.
Nightlights, by Lorena Alvarez, introduces Sandy, who catches the tiny stars that appear out of the darkness each night in her bedroom, and creates wonderful creatures to play with and make drawings of…until one day a mysterious girl appears who knows all about her nighttime secrets.
Space Battle Lunchtime Volume 2: A Recipe for Disaster, by Natalie Reiss, ushers in the season finale of Space Battle Lunchtime, but finalist Peony (the only Earth contestant) is nowhere to be found—she’s been kidnapped and taken to the set of her show’s biggest rival, Cannibal Coliseum, where chefs compete to cook…each other!
The Tea Dragon Society, by Katie O’Neill, tells the story of Greta, a blacksmith apprentice, who becomes entwined in the enchanting world of tea dragons—discovering a lost tea dragon in the marketplace, and learning the dying art form of tea dragon caretaking from a pair of kind tea shop owners.
Where’s Halmoni? by Julie Kim, joins a young Korean girl and boy on a search for their missing grandmother—a search that leads them into a fantastical world inspired by Korean folklore, complete with mischievous goblins, a greedy tiger, a clever rabbit, and a wily fox.
Witch Boy, by Molly Knox Ostertag, finds thirteen-year-old Aster up against the rules of his magical family, where all girls are raised to be witches and boys grow up to be shapeshifters—for instead of conforming, Aster doesn’t shift, and continues to pursue his fascination with witchery…no matter how forbidden that might be.

oh shoutout to the ranger in the king's forest story, this one and a few others Hsthete, the fishwife, that have gone viral were written by the same person, Melanie Gilman and they recently published a whole book of them called Other Eve Afters that all fit this vibe

Love how tumblr has its own folk stories. Yeah the God of Arepo we’ve all heard the story and we all still cry about it. Yeah that one about the woman locked up for centuries finally getting free. That one about the witch who would marry anyone who could get her house key from her cat and it’s revealed she IS the cat after the narrator befriends the cat.

I just had the absolute honor of joining Andy Warner (@andywarnercomics), Donna Almendrala (@madmacaques), and Melanie Gilman (@pigeonbits) to talk to Jason Lutes’ senior class at the Center for @cartoonstudies about life after graduation! Here’s a portrait of Jason I made while indulging in the traditional CCS practice of drawing shamelessly during class. His work as a cartoonist and a teacher have changed my life for the better - not just sharing facts, but encouraging openness and genuine joy and passion in the process of making art and taking it in as a reader. Also he’s just a good person. C: And fun to draw!
I‘m so glad to have the opportunity to join this digital cartoonist reunion and talk to about art and work and life with both familiar and new faces. This is the final week before the seniors turn their thesis projects in - best of luck to all of them!

Still finding my way.
Tumblr media
Hello! My name is Kayla Andrus and I’m a studio art major and art history minor here at Oklahoma State University; I’m also a museum associate for the OSU Museum of Art. This is all very fun and exciting, it’s been amazing to pair my education with my work and I love being here! However, working here and being able to see all these amazing different forms of art makes it difficult to figure out what I want to do in my future.
When you’re a studio art major, you have to pick something that you're good at and something that you can see yourself doing for a long time. I’ve been banging my head against the table for 2 years now trying to figure out what I want to do. Nothing seems to be leading me there. But working at the museum has allowed me the opportunity to see new works of art from both contemporary and old artists. The real problem is that I want to do everything, I want to try everything before I decide on that one thing that I want to do for the rest of my college life at least. Working at the museum is so enriching to my studio life, however, I think it’s making my decision on what to do take longer. Since I’ve been here, I’ve seen 3 exhibitions go through our gallery walls. Each exhibition leaves a stamp on my brain and creates more questions for my future. This is because of the inspiration I feel every time I go into the gallery. The Museum also holds very casual and interactive artist talks, these are my favorite but also the worst. When I hear the artist speak about their work, I feel so connected to them and understanding of their life story and why they do what they do. Once, the museum had a Tulsa Fellowship Artist, Melanie Gilman, come in to speak and have a workshop during queering the museum. They talked about illustrating and writing books in such a passionate way that it made me want to try it out for myself. Now I’m planning on illustrating a children’s book! But I still need to figure out if I want to focus on watercolor, jewelry, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, oil painting, etc. I wish that OSU had a multimedia focus so that I could do it all. I just love artmaking so much, I don’t understand how I’m supposed to just pick one thing!
This is to the future something.

Video
youtube
This is a video that explains a new piece I've written, "Music In Segments," exclusively for Instagram looping video.
Instagram: instagram.com/whoaitsmichaelo
Instructions for Performance The Players: For two to infinity "players." Invite one to infinity friends, family, or strangers and have them all take out their respective devices and access my Instagram account, @WhoaItsMichaelO, where each specified "Music In Segments" video is located and will loop accordingly. Segments: Each player selects an indicated looping "Music In Segments" Instagram video to "play," whether it be many of the same loop, all different loops, or a vast combination of whatever the players would like to try out, as there are limitless possibilities. Also, the more players, the better, as my end goal is to gather as many people together to create a cacophony of sound. Performance Time: The players decide how short or how long the performance of "Music In Segments" will be, as again, the possibilities are limitless since the videos are on an endless loop. Volume: It is best if all devices are at maximum volume, but another way to change the performance is if each player adjusts their own volume up or down throughout the performance as they would like. Players may also choose to mute their video intermittently if they so desire. Every performance will be slightly different and completely (and literally) in the hands of the players. Spacing: Another aspect of this piece is where to space yourselves for the performance. With this in mind, you may choose to stand or sit in a tight circle so that the music flows around and near the same area, or you may choose to walk around the room to see what
kinds of effects you can create as the performance progresses. So try it as a close-knit group or spread yourselves out. Also, the actual space where you hold a performance will change the work, whether it be outdoors, indoors, in a small room, a hall, a bathroom, a cathedral, a car, a mall, a fast-food restaurant, grandma's house, or wherever else. This is a mobile piece and should be performed as such. Be creative and find what will best suit your intended performance.
This work is in your hands now. As you discover different ways to perform this piece, feel free to share videos of your performances, tagged #MusicInSegments, so I may hear and see what you come up with. I would love to share them with the world.
I hope you enjoy it.

The Night-Mother
Tumblr media
Under the cut is the comic I drew for this year’s 24 hour comics day/48 hour comics weekend!  This is an adult horror comic, and it comes with some content warnings: miscarriage, child loss, violence, death, and nudity.
If you saw an earlier version of this post and couldn’t read the images, my apologies!  This is real beast of a comic, clocking in at 24 pages, so it takes a little extra work figuring out how to get around tumblr’s image limits.  I think it should hopefully read a little better with all the images under a cut, though.  ENJOY!
