Summary:
American Born Chinese tells the story of teenager Jin Wang (played by Ben Wang), a son of Chinese immigrants, who for the most part is a typical high school kid. He collects manga, tries to join the soccer team, and is on a journey dealing with his own identity as he tries to figure out who he is. One day, Wei-Chen (Jimmy Liu), an exchange student, arrives at Jin's school. Unlike Jin, Wei-Chen didn't grow up in America, is loud and open by nature, and doesn't exhibit Jin's self-doubt and insecurities. At times, this causes Jin to feel embarrassed being associated with Wei-Chen.
Wei-Chen is revealed to be the son of Sun Wukong (portrayed by Daniel Wu), commonly known as the Monkey King, a legendary figure in Chinese literature. Wei-Chen had a dream that the mythical Fourth Scroll can stop an uprising against Heaven. The dream also told him that an ordinary teenager is destined to aid him in his search. So Wei-Chen stole his father's magical staff and is now, disguised as a high schooler, searching for the scroll in earthly California, convinced that Jin is the ordinary teenager from his prophetic dream.

I need to vent about something, and you don’t have to post it, but I was poking around the re Inc Twitter and there’s a very small contingent of users (maybe like 3-4) who have turned the presence of Linehan on the recap show as a way to like defame Tobin and christen. Someone quote tweeted a video and told them they’d stop supporting the company and that they need to “do better” and another person had the gall to tweet that Christen needs to “break her silence” about the references of Ellis in the Yates report.
You can totally have valid feelings about Ellis and even Linehan - that’s fine (although I do think this idea that Meg is like somehow completely gatekeeping this abuse from becoming public and the weird obsession with her that’s come of that is offputting). But to get on the internet and tell a player they have to “do better” or “speak up” against abuse like she isn’t one of the main reasons Rory Dames is no longer employed is insane to me. Like 2 years ago we were all having this conversation about not blaming the players who weren’t ready to speak up or maybe wanted to process their trauma differently. Where did that go? I want to respond but I don’t want to give anyone any more engagement.
It just feels sometimes with online communities, like woso twitter, that people just completely forget how to act and have zero room for nuance or grace. You don’t like how christen had Linehan on her show? Fine. Keep it to yourself. How are you putting this blame for this system of abuse on the shoulders of one or two players who have been through the RINGER in this league??

2025 Alphabet Soup – Author Edition Reading Challenge Just for Fun! It's An Alphabet Challenge! Start keeping track of your authors and by December 31, 2025 your bowls must be filled by one author for each letter of the Alphabet. Be sure to include the book title too.   Details This challenge will run from January 1st, 2025 until December 31st, 2025. You can join anytime. You do not have to post a review of the book. Books can come from any genre. You do not need to link up each spoonful. Make a page or a post or a GoodReads shelf where you will keep track of your spoonfuls. I keep track of mine on my Challenge Page. Crossovers to other challenges are allowed and encouraged! It’s an alphabet challenge!!! The challenge is to read one book that has an author whose first name, middle, or last name starts with every letter of the alphabet. So there are two different ways you can set up your own A-Z Reading Challenge. A – How I plan to do it: Make a list on your blog from A-Z. Throughout the year, as you go along, add the authors with the book you read to the list. Towards the end of the year, you can check and see which letters you are missing and find authors/books to fit. OR B – Make a list now of 26 books, picking one for each letter of the alphabet. For example: A – Donna Andrews - For Duck's Sake: A Meg Langslow Mystery B – Bailey Cates - Rituals and Rolling Pins (A Magical Bakery Mystery) C – Harlan Coben - Nobody's Fool X - Diana Xarissa - Frustrated in Massachusetts (The Midlife Crisis Mysteries) Y- Maisey Yates - Hero for the Holidays (Four Corners Ranch) Z- Chad Zunker - The Wife You Know Books can be read in any order and all formats – print – e-book – and audio – are acceptable for this challenge! Ready to join?? Bloggers grab the image below and make a post about the challenge to encourage others to join! Non-bloggers you can join too! Just keep track any way you wish. You can even set up a special shelf on Goodreads.com to help you keep track!  It is super easy, Just click the MY BOOKS tab at the top of the page. When that page opens just click – ADD A SHELF in the left-hand sidebar. Title it Alphabet Soup Author Edition Challenge and you are all set.  As requested this challenge has been added to Storygraph. https://app.thestorygraph.com/reading_challenges/84d0f727-fbe2-4b96-891c-cf96b30bfef1 Follow Escape With Dollycas Into A Good Book as there may be special announcements made about the challenge. Tarot for the Hard Work: An Archetypal Journey to Confront Racism and Inspire Collective Healing Tarot for the Hard Work: An Archetypal Journey to Confront Racism and Inspire Collective Healing Contributor(s): Minnis, Maria (Author), Tramble, Rashunda (Foreword by) ISBN: 9781578638079 Binding: Paperback Pub Date: January 08, 2024 Author: Maria Minnis Physical Info: 0.54" H x 8.05" L x 6.09" W (0.67 lbs) 280 pages Publisher: Weiser Books "An important and profoundly edifying book. . . . Perhaps the most important tarot text that will define this decade." -- Benebell Wen, author of Holistic Tarot Tarot for the Hard Work is a provocative exploration of the twenty-two cards of the Major Arcana that re envisions these archetypes as beacons that illuminate the various ways racism takes root both in ourselves and in the world. Author Maria Minnis, with compassion and wisdom, shows us how these insights can be turned into self-awareness, self-love, and positive social action. " Tarot for the Hard Work is a tool for passionately demolishing structural oppression. It is a map that we can take with us on a voyage as we discover our personal, subliminal views on race and how we're impacted. Each card of the Major Arcana serves as a waypoint that challenges us to rethink our views on racial equity." --Rashunda Tramble, from the foreword Tarot has always been a powerful guide for introspection and inner work, so what better tool to use when we're ready to do the really hard work? Minnis provides actionable exercises in this tarot workbook, giving readers a unique, personal understanding of what systemic racism is--and what steps we can take to begin to dismantle it. This is a book for anyone who has been overwhelmed, outraged, or frustrated and asked, "But what can I do?" It is a book for anyone ready to look within and do the uncomfortable inner work necessary to demolish everyday racism. This book says tarot can be a tool for action, one that may offer great satisfaction as well as great difficulty, all while pushing you out of your comfort zone. "This book should be on everyone's bookshelf, not just tarot readers. EVERYONE. In Tarot for the Hard Work, author Maria Minnis helps awaken us to our truest, bravest, most compassionate selves. It's a luminous work of love. Minnis shines a torch illuminating our path toward justice." --Amanda Yates Garcia, author of Initiated and host of the Between the Worlds podcast In Tarot for the Hard Work you'll explore the Major Arcana to uncover how each card highlights both benevolent and shadow aspects of each archetype in relation to the different ways that racism shows up in our lives. With exercises and thought-provoking recommended reading and resources, you will be guided how to use those themes to dismantle internalized racism, racism in your relationships, and racism in your communities. Journal prompts are provided to help you create your own antiracism tool kit. As you move from the Fool to the World card, you'll discover that everything we do ripples beyond us and that there are practical ways to use tarot energy to change our actions and our world. "Minnis is the real deal. From transformative perspectives on tarot archetypes to clever action items for every kind of reader and activist, Tarot for the Hard Work doesn't apologize for being exactly what it is: a brilliant primer and essential guide for utilizing tarot's truth in personal and collective antiracism work." --Meg Jones Wall, author of Finding the Fool Biographical Note: Maria Minnis is an unapologetically Black writer, ritual facilitator, and tarot reader who teaches about blending spirituality with liberation work. She has creatively worked with tarot for over twenty years and considers herself an eternal student of life, and thus the tarot. Her community program, Antiracist Tarot Society, is inspired by her belief that the end result of all magic should be to cultivate a more equitable and empathetic planet.

American Doctor Who fancast
If Doctor Who were American or had an American multiverse, these are the actors I came up with for The Doctors and The Masters
Inspired by this old Buzzfeed article and my own curiosity
Before we get onto the fancast, I’d like to suggest what could be the American equivalent to The TARDIS Phone Box as a perception filter. What I think could be the American version is A dilapidated, blue garden shed with white trim, with maybe a weather vane on top that spins around. Double doors, a few frosted windows. Like so

valverde dumoulin yates landa bardet nibali

Sophie’s Exhaustive Dark Academia List
For a while now, since my dark academia rec list was such an unexpected success, I’ve wanted to create a list of all the dark academia books I’m personally aware of, regardless of whether I have already read them, as sort of a resource for the community. I have now done just that!
The titles in bold are the ones I have read. The ones I would especially recommend (which, okay, yeah, are almost all of the ones I’ve read) are in bold and italics. Note that this doesn’t mean I loved absolutely everything about the recommended book, just that I think it was good or worth reading overall.
If anybody is aware of a dark academia read that didn’t make the list, please leave a comment and I’ll update the list! Thank you! And thank you to everyone who has already recommended titles to me, helping me compile this list! :)
Also, just to be clear: My personal definition of dark academia would be a story that is set at a school or university or focuses heavily on academia otherwise (maybe the characters are in a secret book or debate club, discuss academic topics, something like that) and in which something bad or dark happens. This could be a crime (violent or non-violent), an accidental death, something supernatural going on... Note: Some of the books on the list (meaning of those I haven’t read) might only fit a looser definition of dark academia, e.g. maybe they have a dark subject matter and include some intellectual elements, even if the setting isn’t actually an academic institution.
And now, without further ado, enjoy!! As I said, I hope this will be a good resource for the dark academia community! And I want to update this list regularly so that it’s as exhaustive as possible! :)
