my neurotypical sister has never read percy jackson or any of its companion series, she’s just seen the attempted adaptations and so we are watching the new show together and i was explaining kronos and how the olympians came to be and the story of medusa and the minotaur etc. and i was like “how have you never heard of any of this” and she was like “how the hell do you know all of this” and i had completely forgotten that not everyone had a greek mythology hyperfixation for over a decade and it was extremely strange to think that so many people don’t know things like this or don’t have it plaguing their thoughts constantly

Camp Seventeen: Chronicles

Dive into the profiles of the members of Camp Seventeen!

Name: Choi Seungcheol (Coups, Cheol) 

Descent: Son of Zeus, King of Gods, God of Sky, Thunder and Lightning

Symbol: Thunderbolt 

Role: Camp Leader - Sets rules and assigns roles in camp to everyone. Responsible for overseeing team members and ensuring discipline on camp. 

Residence: White marbled mansion, surrounded by oak trees, located on higher ground than everyone else so he can keep an eye on camp.

Companion: Eagle called Zephyr who is often seen patrolling the skies to protect camp. Seungcheol has a special whistle call to make it land on his shoulder. 

Profession: Meteorologist - He has a very good understanding of the weather and can accurately predict changes. Although he does not enjoy his job as he despises working in spaces where he does not have control aka isn't the boss. On the orders of his father he’s also pursuing a degree in astronomy.

Fun facts: Seungcheol’s anger is quite destructive - surprise, surprise, it thunders when he’s mad. His hair was black when he was born but streaks of gold started to appear whenever he used his powers and now it is fully golden blonde. Seungcheol also has an insane appetite and is also always making sure everyone eats well.

Name: Yoon Jeonghan (Han, Angel Boy) 

Descent: Son of Athena, Goddess of Wisdom, Warfare and Handicraft 

Symbol: Medusa’s head 

Role: Quest strategist - Studies warfare strategies of other camps and develops a plan of action for his team. Assigns roles in Quests to all members. 

Residence: A tree house nestled on top of an olive tree that surprisingly no one can seem to climb other than the man himself. No one on camp has seen the inside of his house though all have tried - it is believed to house the rare luxuries he collects without anyone’s knowledge.

Companion: Bratty owl called Nox that only comes out at night, god knows where it goes off to in the day. (Dino often has to go on his knees and beg it to help deliver letters) 

Profession: Lawyer - He originally wanted to be a teacher however his level of intelligence was too high for a kindergarten job. In fact, he’s so intelligent that he often has to downplay his smartness at work. The only reason he enjoys being a lawyer is because of the cunningness the profession requires. 

Fun facts: Being the son of a virgin goddess makes Jeonghan a rare demigod - there’s very few known children of Athena. He’s also the camp prankster and though he gets on everyone’s nerves with his jokes, all the members adore him. He’s incredibly scared of spiders and refuses to visit Australia for the same reason. 

Name: Hong Jisoo (Joshua, Joshie) 

Descent: Son of Aphrodite, Goddess of Love, Sex and Beauty

Symbol: White swan. 

Role: Camp manager - Responsible for all non training related operations on camp - meals, residences etc. Conflict resolving between members. 

Residence: A small cottage by the lake that was personally crafted by his mother's helpers hence it has all her favorite things in it - red roses, seashells, sea foam etc. To no one’s surprise, there are also mirrors everywhere in his house. 

Companion: Joshua once went to a bird shop to adopt a pet but came back with nearly every single dove, pigeon and sparrow because they would not stop screeching in his absence. Now they go everywhere with him - he’s a mini snow white.

Profession: Writer - Joshua writes romance novels often relying on real life experiences of his many affairs. His books are world famous under the pen name Mr.G (apparently short for gentleman) and they always have happy endings. 

Fun facts: When he’s not writing, Joshua loves to make his own accessories, especially with pearls. He also loves reading other’s writings - particularly fanfictions of his characters. He is also a very good singer, often playing the guitar during evening campfires. 

Name: Wen Junhui (Jun, Moon Junnie) 

Descent: Son of Demeter, Goddess of Agriculture, Harvest and Seasons 

Symbol: Cornucopia 

Role: Camp Farmhand - Growing and harvesting crops needed for cooking. Cooks dinner for all members. (Breakfasts and lunches are each member’s personal responsibility, though Jun insists on packing lunch for members who go to work.) 

Residence: A small farmhouse in the middle of his fields at the foot of the hills. It’s got windmills and creeks and bales of hay - very picturesque 

Companion: A two feet long rough green snake called Fluffy. Unlike its name, it's skinny and clingy and is wrapped around Jun at all times. 

Profession: Acupuncturist - works in a small clinic at the edge of the city and is quite renowned for his skill. Although looking at how most of his patients are young women with barely significant health issues, maybe he’s more renowned for his looks. 

Fun facts: He's the one that most members from other camps have a crush on - he’s always having to run away from fawning girls during quest season. He loves adventure sports and often goes off on his own to do something outdoors. Hates the city, never visits it unless he has no choice.

Name: Kwon Soonyoung (Hoshi, Tiger) 

Descent: Son of Dionysus, God of Wine, Festivity and Theatre 

Symbol: Pinecone 

Role: Camp PR - Establishing social connections with other camps. Entertaining guests who come to camp to form treaties. 

Residence: Luxurious purple and green mansion which looks a little rustic from the outside with all the grapevines and ivy but on the inside it's the very epitome of lavishness. 

Companion: Horang the leopard tiger - He had requested his father to gift him a tiger but his drunk old man sent him a leopard and Hoshi refuses to accept it. He often dresses it in a tiger outfit so it's safe to say Horang is actually quite sick of him.

Profession: Club owner - Hoshi owns a small underground club which has an even more underground secret room only for demigods. There he *cough* illegally *cough* sells his own brewed alcohol which is a big hit and makes him big money. 

Fun facts: Makes and sells alcohol but does not drink as he cannot handle it at all. During his free time, he either studies the art of wine making or takes dance workshops in the city because he’s passionate about it. The loudest possible introvert you will meet with the largest possible social circle - literally no one hates him (except Horang) 

Name: Jeon Wonwoo (Wonu, Jeon-sshi) 

Descent: Son of Hades, King of the Underworld, God of Death and Riches

Symbol: Black Ram

Role: Camp patrolling - Patrols and secures camp borders at night. Not exactly his job but somehow always ends up doing the dishes. 

Residence: He lives in a cave underground which is quite high tech and equipped, like the bat cave. He’s got all sorts of computers and screens set up everywhere for the ease of his job. 

Companion: None. Wonwoo’s father gifted him Cerberus, a 3 headed puppy but Wonwoo gave it to Mingyu after he lost his own pet in a Quest. Natalie for some reason, likes to follow around Wonwoo like moth to a light. 

Profession: No one knows really. It’s some big secret government job that he rarely goes to the headquarters for - mostly works from the comfort of his own home at whatever time is convenient for him. 

Fun facts: He’s extremely rich - his job makes him a lot of money but also his father keeps sending him a lot of gifts, mainly gemstones. Children of Hades tend to be loners and do not join camps but Seungcheol fought tooth and nail to get Wonwoo into Camp Seventeen. Wonwoo loves to bike and often takes his motorcycle, Night Fury, to the countryside for long drives. 

Name: Lee Jihoon (Woozi, Uji) 

Descent: Son of Apollo, God of Sun, Music and Healing 

Symbol: Lyre 

Role: Camp Patrolling - Patrolling and securing camp at daytime. Also responsible for the healing wounded members 

Residence: Woozi and Vernon own neighboring twin houses - Woozi’s is white and gold and is filled with his instruments and music equipment

Companion: A pure white cow which is named….Cow. It was a reward that he got in one of the Quests years ago and its milk has medicinal properties and helps him to heal members. Cow also has a little calf called Daisy which is the common camp pet - it’s fond of all the members and is very playful with everyone, especially Vernon’s hounds. 

Profession: Music producer - He’s very good with sound and can play most musical instruments. Sometimes DJs at Hoshi’s club when Hyungwon, Jeonghan’s little crush, isn’t available

Fun facts: Woozi works from his own home studio so he barely ever leaves camp. He also doesn’t attend many social events unless really necessary. Spends longer hours than most members in physical and combat training - members suspect he considers himself a little weak since he’s the shortest and tend to hype him up at every given chance. He has the most beautiful long golden locks that he loves to style in various buns and braids.

Name: Xu Minghao (Myungho, Hao) 

Descent: Son of Ares, God of War, Battle-lust and Courage

Symbol: War helmet 

Role: Camp trainer - In charge of training members of combat. Assigns weapons and maintains the ones stored in reserves.

Residence: Brick House at the edge of the training field with his personal gym and simulation combat room.

Companion: None. Minghao does not feel any emotional attachment towards any living thing. 

Profession: Tattoo artist - Minghao always liked things that were rebellious in nature and he’s a very talented artist so he decided to combine the two as his profession. 

Fun facts: He’s one of the best warriors the world has ever seen - he's trained in many camps before he decided Camp Seventeen was it for him. The camp lost two Quest seasons because Minghao had to fight for the Amazonions as a favour to his dad but now he has the eternal support of the entire tribe. Although his father is the very symbol of rage and fury, Minghao tends to be quite calm and meditates often to keep inner peace.

Name: Kim Mingyu (Gyu, Big Boy) 

Descent: Son of Hepheastus, God of Fire, Forges and Blacksmiths

Symbol: Smith's hammer 

Role: Weapons master - he makes all the weapons and equipment for the members. Handles all engineering related matters on camp as well. 

Residence: Has the only two storey house on camp - ground floor is his personal forgery and above it is his residence which the most automated, high tech place ever - seriously, he’s made a machine for everything 

Companion: He used to have a baby donkey but lost it in a quest. (last it was seen was when Hoshi took a photo sitting on it) then Wonwoo gave him his dog because he was lonely. 

Profession: Firefighter - being the son of the god of fire helps with that. Plus Mingyu is always looking to help people in need so it was a no brainer for him when the time came for him to pick a job. However now he’s considering leaving the job to become a chef

Fun facts: Mingyu is the tallest seventeen member so it's always hard to get gear for him - it's always too small or too tight. Mingyu isn’t particularly a fan of biking but knows it's one way he can spend time with Wonwoo so he built his own bike, FireBolt. Since the terrain on camp is too uneven for a bike, he built it to be able to transform into a mechanical bull at the click of a button allowing him to ride it around everywhere no camp, inducing mini earthquakes as it runs. 

Name: Lee Seokmin (Dk, Min) 

Descent: Son of Poseidon, God of Seas, Storms and Horses 

Symbol: Water waves 

Residence: He has a boat house in the middle of the lake which the members love to use as a party yacht much to his dismay. 

Companion: Pegasus, a big stallion actually meant for battle but in reality it is a scaredy cat. Often runs the opposite side of combat regardless of Seokmin’s instructions 

Role: Camp trainer - in charge of morning warm ups and drills. Helps members with general fitness and health. 

Profession: Surf instructor - he spends pretty much all his time in and around sea because that is where he feels strongest. Often helps capsized boats and trapped animals though he’s not supposed to interfere and falls in trouble because of his good nature 

Fun facts: Seokmin was deadly scared of water as a child and would not even go near it. His father personally trained him and prepared his son for demigod life. He is one of the only members who has lived in Olympus for a while in his younger days. He's incredibly sweet and considerate though most of Poseidon’s many many sons tend to be arrogant and rude

Name: Boo Seungkwan (Uri boo, Kwan) 

Descent: Son of Hera, Queen of Gods, Goddess of Marriage, Family and Women

Symbol: Diadem 

Role: Camp PR - Like Hoshi, he too establishes alliances and treaties with camps. Often the messenger to Olympus because his mother is queen - loved by all the Gods (except Zeus) 

Residence: A Greek style house that Hera had instructed him to construct right in the middle of camp because she wants him to be the center of everything. Seungkwan dislikes it and often bunks with Vernon who’s the only one who hasn’t shooed him away when he approached. 

Companion: Patricia, the peacock that his mother gifted him but it's a bit too high end and spoilt to be in a place like camp. 

Profession: Wedding planner - Seungkwan loved weddings since he was a child mostly because he always saw his mother at one when she came to bless the unions. He decided to start his own company after nitpicking about how everyone was getting them all wrong and wanting to teach the world the right ways again. 

Fun facts: If it's not already obvious, he’s a mummy’s boy. Though Hera is the very symbol of faithfulness, the growing number of her husband’s children prompted her to have children of her own, Seungkwan being the one she’s most fond of. He’s the latest addition to camp and within days of arriving, he had already boosted Seventeen’s image beyond their expectations. He runs a secret instagram page for Camp Seventeen who’s followers are mostly girls from other camps, because the pictures are mostly the members shirtless.

Name: Chwe Hansol (Vernon, Bonon) 

Descent: Son of Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt, Wilderness, and Chastity 

Symbol: Wolf  

Role: Camp patrolling - along with Woozi, he too patrols the camp at daytime. Hunts wild animals which tend to find their way into the camps.

Residence: Twin houses with Woozi, his is silver and white and has a large enclosure for his hounds. His house shines according to the cycle of the moon - brightest at full moon, almost invisible at no moon. 

Companion: Fifteen hounds that are descendants of the hounds that his mother hunts. He can’t remember fifteen names so he’s named as the numbers - One, Two, Three, so on.  

Profession: Video gamer developer - Vernon had a lot of experience as a child when he was caste as Tv show host. Though, as much as he’s used to the entertainment industry, he likes to steer clear from it hence venturing into game development 

Fun facts: Vernon is also the child of a virgin goddess and hence also a rare demigod. He’s famous for his chiseled features and is often babied by the Hunters of Artemis. Demigods aren’t allowed to meet their mortal families after initiating into camps but Vernon always sneaks out to meet his sister Sofia who he is very close to and fond of.

Name: Lee Chan (Dino, Maknae) 

Descent: Son of Hermes, Messenger of Gods, God of Trade, Luck and Travel 

Symbol: Caduceous 

Role: Camp messenger - Much like his father, Dino plays the active role of camp transport-in-charge. Any and all deliveries are his job - even when Mingyu needs a ton of iron to weld. 

Residence: A large camp tent at the entrance of camp - When he first came he claimed he wanted it to get ‘camp feels’ now he hates it but Cheol won’t let him change it. 

Companion: A tortoise named Speedy which is as slow as he is fast. Always has to run, then wait for it to catch up, then run again and wait again and so on. 

Profession: Cab driver - doesn’t particularly enjoy the job but it makes things easier for him. He says he’s saving up to go to med school one day but Woozi swears Dino said chest muscles are called pecs because they are short for spectacular so yeah, that’s probably not happening

Fun facts: He’s a kleptomaniac - he’s always stealing stuff from the members, his house is full of such artifacts. He’s also the most in touch with his demigod half siblings - the sons of Hermes are a tight bunch. Being the youngest in camp means he’s most teased but also most adored - camp messenger isn’t even a legit job, they just give him as little work as possible.

Residence: Not yet built 

Companion: Natalie the piglet who she found stuck in the trashcan one day and decided to raise. Natalie is a fledgling meaning its a creature of Olympus and does not follow time in the mortal world

Profession: Studying her last year of Architecture

Fun facts: She's the exact opposite of everything her mother is known for - very confrontational, not hospitable and not homely at all. Most Demigods are discovered when they are 16 but she made it to 25 undetected, no one knows how. Mingyu was the one who found her because of an accident that landed her in a lawsuit - Olympus assigned Camp Seventeen to her under the suggestion of the oracle.

Greek mythology has evolved over the course of hundreds of years, and with all those… retellings now, it’s gotten me thinking about just how many people have been spreading false details of myths through word of mouth to the point of becoming the most common interpretation, when if you were to look back in history, a great number of them were only recently made up, barely a a few centuries prior. Example of this is King Midas and his turning his daughter into a gold statue. I remember this part having been included all throughout my childhood, only to find out it was never part of the original myth but a recent addition in a book from 1852. (suddenly, the daughter being aptly named “Marigold” makes a lot more sense.) My ask is: which commonly told misconception of this type regarding any Greek myth is most infuriating to you and why?

First of all, no he did not. LO, toss yourself into an eternal blaze and incinerate.

and secondly- he's not a serial rapist. There's only two accounts of rape, specifically Dryope and Creusa, but that depends on interpretation and the source so if you want to discard it, you can. No one can tell you you can't.

Even with the ones where she punishes the victim, the older versions do not have that! She made Nicymene her eternal owl companion, for heaven's sake!

Hello, my name is Astra. I am 32, female, an Aries, and I have been practicing solitary, eclectic witchcraft for the better part of the last 20 years. That being said, I feel like I've been a witch my whole life. It just took me some time to pin down exactly what it meant.

I primarily practice a combination of Satanic/traditional witchcraft but I visit a lot of other types of magick in my work. I read tarot, throw bones, and other forms of divination including astrology, work with many spirits, make sigils, grimoires and art magick, practice necromancy, blood magick, hedge-riding, spellcrafting, scrying, dreamwork, weather magick, shamanism, and work with the fae and other entities.

My main spirit mentor and companion is King Paimon and we have worked together for quite some time. He is, amongst other designations, the Lord of Familiars. He is selective about who he works with, but his adepts have a knack for connecting others to spirits that resonate with them. I do this often for people. I can channel him under certain circumstances and he empowers my magick. Paimon also loves music and we listen together often.

I work with many spirits/deities/entities and have had the experience of meeting even more. Pile 1:

The Phoenix is a legendary bird from Greek and Egyptian mythology. It is said to be a magnificent creature with colorful plumage and the ability to regenerate itself. According to the Greek myth, the Phoenix lives for centuries before igniting itself in flames and being reborn from its ashes. This cycle of death and rebirth symbolizes immortality and the eternal nature of life.

The Phoenix is often associated with themes of renewal, transformation, and resurrection. It represents the concept of rising above challenges and emerging stronger from adversity. The Phoenix's ability to rise from the ashes serves as a metaphor for personal growth, spiritual transcendence, and the cyclic nature of existence.

Pile 2:

Kitsune is a mythical creature from Japanese folklore, often depicted as a fox with magical abilities. These shapeshifting creatures possess intelligence and possess anywhere from one to nine tails, with each additional tail indicating greater power and wisdom. Kitsune are known for their mischievous nature and their ability to assume human form.

In Japanese mythology, Kitsune represents both positive and negative aspects. On one hand, they are associated with wisdom, cunning, and the protection of their chosen human companions. On the other hand, they are known for their trickery and illusions. Kitsune symbolize the complexities of human nature, the power of transformation, and the blurred line between reality and illusion.

Pile 3:

A pegasus is a winged horse from Greek mythology. According to the myth, Pegasus was born from the decapitated neck of the Gorgon Medusa when the hero Perseus slew her. Pegasus is often depicted as a majestic white horse with wings, capable of flying freely through the skies. It became the trusted mount of the hero Bellerophon, who rode Pegasus during his battles against various monsters.

Pegasus symbolize freedom, inspiration, and the power of the imagination. The ability to soar through the heavens represents the pursuit of higher knowledge, transcending earthly limitations, and reaching new heights. Pegasus is associated with artistic and creative endeavors, as well as the exploration of the divine realm.

So, I LOVE Epic: This Musical and I'm excited for some of the songs in the Circe Saga, but one of TWO songs that I absolutely DESPISE in this musical is coming out and I'm so stressed out about it.

"There Are Other Ways" and "I'm Not Sorry For Loving You" make me so frustrated because it looks like they fall into downplaying the coercion and abuse Odysseus went through because the abusers are women. AND I HATE THAT.

"There Are Other Ways" is a song between a person who has power to force a person into doing what they want (Circe) and their victim (Odysseus), who can only comply. And from what I've read it has the line "There's no puppet here."

It's really clever writing because if you know the story, you know Odysseus is in a precarious situation and he was told by Hermes that when she asked to sleep with him, he needed to do it. Here's three different translations of the moment Hermes tells him "Don't you tell her no" with the warning from Hermes bolded:

"'And I will tell thee all the baneful wiles of Circe. She will mix thee a potion, and cast drugs into the food; but even so she shall not be able to bewitch thee, for the potent herb that I shall give thee will not suffer it. And I will tell thee all. When Circe shall smite thee with her long wand, then do thou draw thy sharp sword from beside thy thigh, and rush upon Circe, as though thou wouldst slay her. And she will be seized with fear, and will bid thee lie with her. Then do not thou thereafter refuse the couch of the goddess, that she may set free thy comrades, and give entertainment to thee. But bid her swear a great oath by the blessed gods, that she will not plot against thee any fresh mischief to thy hurt, lest when she has thee stripped she may render thee a weakling and unmanned.’

“ ‘And I will tell you of all the wicked witchcraft that Circe will try to practice upon you. She will mix a potion for you to drink, and she will drug the meal with which she makes it, but she will not be able to charm you, for the virtue of the herb that I shall give you will prevent her spells from working. I will tell you all about it. When Circe strikes you with her wand, draw your sword and spring upon her as though you were going to kill her. She will then be frightened, and will desire you to go to bed with her; on this you must not directly refuse her, for you want her to set your companions free, and to take good care also of yourself, but you must make her swear solemnly by all the blessed gods that she will plot no further mischief against you, or else when she has got you naked she will unman you and make you fit for nothing.’

"I will tell you all Circe’s fatal wiles. She will mix a drink for you, blending drugs with the food, but even so she will fail to enchant you: the powerful herb I will give you will prevent it. Let me tell you the rest. When Circe strikes you with her length of wand, draw your sharp sword and rush at her, as if you intend to kill her. She will be seized with fear. Then she’ll invite you to her bed, and don’t refuse the goddess’ favours, if you want her to free your men, and care for you too. But make her swear a solemn oath by the blessed gods that she won’t try to harm you with her mischief, lest when you are naked she robs you of courage and manhood.”’

He had no choice in the matter. It was a "you will have to sacrifice yourself OR you will never get your men back and you won't be safe if you don't do it" moment. While Circe's not telling this directly to Odysseus, it's still COERCION because he knows if he says "No, I want to be faithful to my wife" Circe will harm him. But a lot of people don't know that and are going to continue to perpetuate the idea that Odysseus cheated on his wife. 😒 And they're going to use that line of "There's no puppets here" as "proof" that Odysseus cheated.

If you can sympathize with Ovid's later adaptation of Medusa as a victim of Poseidon, but refuse to acknowledge Odysseus was as much a victim of Circe AND Calypso and claim he's cheating... Please, ask yourself: why is that?

JOAQUÍN BÁRBARA Y BALZA - SHIPWRECKED, 1896

The painting captures the sombre aftermath of a shipwreck. Central to the composition are two deceased shipwreck survivors laid out in a boat, surrounded by fishing nets and other marine equipment. There's also a lone sailor, still alive, who is navigating the boat. His expression and posture convey a sense of loss and mourning over the fate of his companions. The environment around the boat suggests a calm, perhaps post-storm sea, with no immediate signs of rescue or land nearby.

Though specific details about Bárbara y Balza's personal encounters with the sea or shipwrecks are not well-documented, his time in Rome, a city with a rich maritime history and proximity to the Mediterranean, might have exposed him to stories, images, or even direct observations of the sea's harsh realities. Bárbara y Balza would also have studied the works of great masters who painted similar themes. Artists like Théodore Géricault ("The Raft of the Medusa") and J.M.W. Turner, known for his stormy seascapes, might have influenced him in terms of composition, color use, and the emotional impact of sea tragedies.

Joaquín Bárbara y Balza was in Rome as part of a scholarship or pension from the Spanish government. This was a common practice at the time where promising artists were sent abroad, particularly to Rome, to further their studies and artistic development in one of the cultural capitals of the world. His time in Rome was crucial for his artistic growth, providing him with the resources, environment, and inspiration needed to advance his skills and reputation.

It was Hades who first walked in on (Y/N) laying it on thick with their crush in the breakroom

Cue a good 5 minutes of silence between the lord of the dead and his mortified caretaker, their crush quickly slipping away to avoid awkwardness.

“Please don’t tell anyone.”

“Oh I’m gonna tell everybody~”

Yeah, the news of (Y/N)’s crush spread around the villains faster than wildfire

every time (Y/N) would walk into the villains common room they’d be hounded with questions from the nosier villains (Cruella, Medusa, Facilier, etc..) while also being tormented with annoying kissy sounds and fake moans from the jerkier characters (mostly Gaston and Hades)

Oh, and completely ignore Hook sobbing dramatically in his room while holding a photo of (Y/N), he’s totally not jealous of their crush AT ALL

Most of the time the villains are bored out of their minds, so this was the closest thing they got to entertainment here at the park

You know damn well that magic users like Ursula and Jafar used their powers to spy on (Y/N)s crush, finding out who they are as a person. Making sure they met all of their standards cause god knows (Y/N) deserves the best (i.e them)

Honest John pick pocketed the crushes wallet to get their information (when caught by (Y/N), he excuses it as an opportunity for them to return the wallet and appear as the hero to their crush)

Most of the villains are SUPER protective

Any time (Y/N)’s goes to interact with their crush, they’ll turn around to spot the villains spying on them from the bushes

Imagine seeing flaming blue hair, a plumed hat, and fox ears sticking out of the bushes

When called out, they all come running over to the pair, acting like your stereotypical embarrassing parents

Hades subtly threatens (Y/N)s crush that if they even have the thought of hurting them, their souls going into Tartarus’s pit

Hook just glares at (Y/N)s crush, muttering to himself about how he’s the far superior companion

Honest John Compliments their drivers license photo with a smile

Overall, most of the villains enjoy watching (Y/N) trying to flirt, and most are pretty supportive

As long as their crush treats them well, who knows? Mabye they’ll be invited to (Y/N)’s and the villains weekly dinner.

there is something so personal to me about the stark contrast percy and annabeth represent in regards to parenthood and responsibility because of the difference in their upbringings. percy only intent on going on this quest because it’s a chance to save his mother. annabeth determined to see this quest through to prove herself to her mother. percy interrupting chiron and immediately choosing annabeth as his companion because he thinks she’ll prioritize their duty and wouldn’t betray him (bc they couldn’t possibly be friends). annabeth staunchly defending athena during her confrontation with percy and their encounter with medusa, insisting that she loves her mother. percy having a more bitter outlook on the gods, not seeing medusa as a full monster because of what his mother taught him, not accepting that it’s okay for athena to be an absent parent.

their fundamental differences lie in percy, in spite of his rough childhood, having the privilege of knowing what a mother’s love feels like and annabeth being robbed of it. she’s constantly been neglected or left behind and does not know what it’s like to have someone love you, prioritize you, protect you since day one. like she just wants to be seen!!! she just wants to be loved!!! the closest she can get to a mother’s love is subtle, detached acknowledgement from athena upon completing this quest successfully but she clings onto the notion that this is okay, this is something worth putting her life on the line for because she doesn’t know what a real parent’s love feels like!!! she’s begging for scraps!! she’s aware that it’s not ideal, but she thinks this is the closest to love she can get from a parent. believing that the most minuscule amount of attention from a goddess is worth fighting for because she’s never had a real parental figure in her life besides a fuckass horse who has hundreds of other child soldiers to attend to…she’s as motivated by love as percy is.

and the funniest part of it is, as much as they initially bicker, they’re on the same page the whole time. annabeth, who deeply desires athena’s approval, standing her ground against alecto and killing her sister, refusing to give up on percy. percy, who needs his mother alive and safe, shutting down medusa’s insinuations about annabeth and beheading her. grover making percy understand how important annabeth’s cap is to her as a present from her mother. grover getting both their thick skulls to realize they’re in the same boat, that they’re somehow innately loyal to each other despite their mommy issues because they share the same core principles despite expressing themselves differently.

Annoyed after arguing with her, the Doctor explored by himself, going into a jam shop only to find that the merchant had been murdered by a guy with a hook for a hand. While trying to remove the hook, the Doctor was knocked unconscious, so when the police came, he was found with the dead body and the murder weapon. He was charged with several murders and sentenced to die, but Izzy was able to phone in a tip using information she knew from the history book to vindicate him just before he was executed. If the Valeyard had beaten the Sixth Doctor during their battle in the Matrix, he would have messed with time so dramatically that it would become catastrophically damaged. The Dream Doctor made sure to tell him that he didn't think this was his subconscious telling him anything about his sexuality. Medusa and The Blind Woman

Act I

She crashes in on an easterly wave. 

One that threatens the bare spindles of a long dead port. The wind bites at stilts gnarled by sea salt and the negligence of time, threads of frayed twine whipping in retaliating lashes against the onslaught versus sturdy grecian wood. 

Lexa watches from on high, eyes on mastheads and white sails in the distance when she takes a moment to admire her only non-hissing companion, the sea. She stands an eagle in her nest of serpentine thorns, as the speck of a sailor draws near from the horizon, boat marching on the back of winds that carry it onward. The ocean howls of intruders long before they arrive, the swishing churn of embattled rip tides announcing the threat among rustled gusts and spits of algae foam. 

It's all become so painfully predictable. 

Lexa sighs at the sight of them marching on toward her fortress. 

A sinking weight floods her stomach, weary resignation presses heavy against her throat.

The grip of her spade reminds hers they mean nothing to her morning, to her unforgiving schedule that must be kept. What with the chill slipping through the cracks of a waning afternoon sun setting on the intruder's horizon. 

She doesn't bother to watch their approach further, instead keeping her thoughts to steady hands that churn earth and crumble stone, driving her blade against charcoal and turning it to soot. She checks her moorings to the west and fells a few fresh saplings for kindling. Nuisances in that particular corner of her nest of thorns, ones she's been waging a losing battle with for ages.

Her thoughts scatter like the seed and silt that pour through the calloused cracks of her fingers, wondering—

A sharp whine fills the air below, followed by a screech and crash of splintering wood. A thunderous boom echoes along the rockside loud enough to shake the very gravel under her feet followed by a full chested bellow.

"Gods damn it all!"

Lexa straightens from her work at the cry of anger, loud enough to have her dropping her tools where she stands. Loud enough to send a shiver across her scalp that hisses and spits its welcome in return. 

She slips past brambles and thickets of overgrowth. Moves between boulders and shrugging aside the hang of vine, winding her way to the edge of her oasis. The sweet scent of honeysuckle mixes with sea water as she moves close to the rocky ledge of the cliff shore. 

Careful to stay hidden, tucked neatly in the shadows, she lifts a few leaves on the tips of her finger to see her would be… captors…

Or. Captor.

The waters are littered with floating bits of dock and warped wood, now useless and broken into a thousand tiny shards that bob their way back out into the wild. 

In its place is a boat. 

A rather pathetic boat, Lexa notes at the feel of a nose nudging her cheek. A vessel of one lonely single seat, barely a rod for a mast, with two matching oars on each side. The sight of its paltry build makes her frown, her lips slackening in shock as she looks past the debris of the wreckage to the fleeing white sails receding into the burgeoning twilight distance. 

Another screeched caw from a circling bird above makes Lexa jump, ignoring the snap and hiss in her ear at the same time the air fills with a strained, "Oh shut up!"

Well.

This is certainly not what she had expected. 

Because…

She's blonde. 

Her apparent assassin is blonde. 

And a woman.  

Altogether a decidedly less muscular figure than Lexa had become accustomed to seeing her would-be heroes in the making that washed up on her shores. Not the type bearing rippling muscles, or the thuggish brawn born of beating one's own chest.

In fact, this assassin is downright dainty.

Seasons greetings followers, it's time for the December update.

New Items

First and foremost, I'm happy to share that the Pride Angels leftovers are now available. There's lots of new pins, stickers, and keychains from the campaign listed on Shopify and Etsy.

That's not all: in advance of my Themed Monster Enamel Pins campaign next year, I made one design from each of the sets to test the colors: Cyberpunk Medusa, Priest Angel, Rococo Angel, Victorian Angel, and Werewolf Plague Doctor. If these sell out you can pledge for more in the campaign, along with their companions - though please note the colors may change a little batch-to-batch.

For those of you who prefer to purchase from my stockists, these items will be sent to them as well but you will have to wait longer for them to be listed and available. Guest artist designs have been sent to their respective artists, you can find them in their stores soon, or message them to purchase.

Holiday Sale and Closure

To celebrate the holidays, I am running a very short sale on all older items: 15% off on Shopify (discount applied at checkout) and 10% off on Etsy. I will be closing my shop for the year December 8 at 10AM PST, be sure to get your orders in before then. Slow-selling or low stock items may be removed over the holidays, so if you've had an eye on anything now is the time to grab it.

I have no set date for when my shop will reopen but I anticipate it will be sometime January-March 2025.

Pinconvention

While my shop is closed, you can find many of my items with my stockists. For a limited time December 4-9, a few of my pins will be available from Pinconvention as well. Pinconvention is based in Hamburg, Germany and is the only way for buyers in Germany and France to get my pins.

Shipping Restrictions for EU/Northern Ireland

Speaking of countries in Europe: if you haven't heard already, the EU and Northern Ireland will be enforcing a GPSR regulation starting December 13. You can read more about it in this Etsy article. There's been a lot of discussion in the seller community about what these restrictions mean for US to EU shipping. At the moment I'm going to tentatively continue to allow shipping to the EU and Northern Ireland, but I can't guarantee it will be allowed forever. So if you have your eye on anything in my shop or others, it might be wise to purchase soon. In the event I have to discontinue shipping to these destinations, you may be able to purchase from my stockists, or use a mail forwarding service.

Plans for 2025

That's all for 2024, let's look ahead to next year:

I have some pin designs in my drafts I hope to finish up. This includes: the Angelic Hierarchy set, pins for each BG3 companion's good and bad endings, Dungeons and Dragons pins, some original character designs, and fanart pins including for Dune and Ghibli.

I will be running the Themed Monsters Enamel Pins campaign in March 2025; and collaborating with HoloRaindrops to offer a pair of cross-collab pins to backers who pledge to both of our campaigns. If I can finish up those pins I just mentioned in time for this campaign, they will be available as addons/preorders.

I am planning to make variants of the most popular Pride Angels pins for June (Pride Month) next year.

Other than that, I don't have many pin plans for 2025. I am open to making new variants of previous designs if there's sufficient interest. If you have an idea you can submit it here (and consult my pin catalog here), feel free to share with your friends. I won't be giving up pin making, but I definitely want to slow down on it - I wrote a little about why on Tumblr if you're curious.

And I may slow down my shop updates to every other month as well. As much as I love making new items every month, it's been hard to keep up the pace. I hope you'll stick around to see what I make even with less frequent releases.
