I was trying not to make this post but Shit Happened, Take One Thousand

Kiddo starts school 8/1. One of her diabetes supplies, called a Gvoke*, is Awaiting Prior Authorization, and once we get it it's gonna cost ~$90. We have to refill her insulin as well, and that's another $75**.

My partner has secured a new job, but a. it doesn't start for two weeks and 2. we don't know yet what his wage will be. IN ADDITION he is back in the hospital due to complications from his LAST hospital visit, bc that carousel just goes around and around.

So we are asking for help getting us over this little medical hurdle. We were hoping the Gvoke would get approved before the end of the month, but [gestures at insurance companies]. I do not have the words or the emotional fortitude to explain what these past two years have done to me, but I know I would not have survived it without y'all's generosity. Long time no update, bc I got sick and hurt myself and then everybody else got sick and end-of-school stuff for the child, and it's more draining to write these posts than you'd think. So forgive me if I sound a little flat, we're still getting beaten up by our own bodies and also the world.

The big one is that Sam is functionally in remission. There are no detectable cancer cells in her body, even from a lumbar puncture. What they're doing now is making sure they can't come back with additional chemo and other treatments. This is probably going to take at least all summer, longer if her numbers do things the doctors don't like.

The Courage Cabaret show went very well, it was a great show and at the end of the night we had enough to pay Sam's insurance from last month. Thank you again to all the performers and Metropolitan Studios for their time, energy, and generosity.

I think that's everything! Things are going slightly better than they could be - certainly better than they have in the past - and we owe all of it to y'all's generosity. I need to think of a better way to say "we're so grateful" that's not. just that sentence. but until I learn how to type out the feeling of relief and gratitude and amazement at how giving people are capable of being, it'll have to do.

However, the circumstances of war turned Qusai’s life upside down. These difficult conditions added more challenges to the life of this perseverant child. As his father, I feel helpless in the face of these enormous challenges, and I hope with all my heart that my son’s condition does not worsen under these current circumstances.

Despite all the difficulties, Qusai remains a symbol of hope and courage. Seeing him continue to smile, play, and connect with his friends fills my heart with pride and hope. I wish that Qusai could live in a more stable Qusai Aburas, a diligent and beloved child, always shows a spirit of perseverance and determination.
