Bertie wakes up, and it's daylight outside. He wakes up, and he feels whole, and he feels alive, and he nearly cries at the realization of that.

He wakes up, and there are noises in the kitchen, but he lets himself take in the silence for a moment. He's used to silence, after all, used to letting it fill him and swallow him whole.

But not today. Today, the silence is momentary, and then it will be gone once again.

He wonders, as he gets dressed again, if he'll get a hug again today. That. . . that might be nice. He was hugged more yesterday than he has been in a very long time. Why not start a trend?

He's alive. Might as well live, right?

au where when martin calls jon's bluff in season 4 (? its been a while idk where exactly) about stabbing their eyes out and running away together, they go fuck you no and actually go through with it. they then go to their only other friends, their former band mates like heeyyy i just disabled myself and cant really live alone rn help 🙏 and boom somehow they restart the mechanisms. jon gets cool steampunk prosthetic eyes. they look like this. Here your Jonny was, yelling at mine to not hurt Bertie, to get him home fast and safe. Here your Jonny is wanting you to just reach out.

You really are underestimating Jonny's love. His possessive obsession with showing in his own ways how much he cares.

I left for two years.

I lost my sight and I didn't ever think I could go home because I had no way to find my way home and I was no longer who they had loved. I had changed. I had Become. I wasn't human, wasn't who they knew.

Then Brian found me and called Jonny and Jonny pulled me into his arms and held me as if I was something treasured. He doesn't treat me like glass or like I'm who we were when we were kids. But he still loves me.

Your Jonny just wants his sister back, no matter who she is now, no matter how she's changed.

When Marius eventually wakes up, he at first feels more comfortable than he has in days. Sure, he’s got hair in his face, but that’s normal. That means he’s safe, and fine, and—

And it’s not Lyf’s hair.

Lyf’s still not here. It’s— it’s Raphaella’s hair. And he’s used to cuddling with Raphaella before, but. But it’s not his Raphaella, either, is it?

He keeps his eyes closed, listening for voices, and collects himself.

The mechanisms were Jon's college band AU

You see this AU crossover between The Mechanisms and The Magnus archives? Yeah, I like that one.

But I prefer the two groups being only linked by Jon. So, Nicholas is not Toy Soldier, Basira/Georgie is not Ashes, etc... I just like to think Jon has the coolest friend group/family to hang out outside of work and no one except Rosie knows about the mechs.

I want to try writting a chatfic too, so here it is. It's just the first chapter but I'm so anxious that I can't continue for now...

Tim: Jun was a Japanese student here in London to study for a year before going back to Japan and welcome London’s students. Exchange program yada yada yada…

Tim: shhhhhh… let me tell the story

Tim: so! When Jun started to be better than him in their literature class, Jonny was mad! I wasn’t even his friend but I could see it, the two of them spent all their breaks bickering. Jonny in his soft, shy, but angry voice and Jun in her broken English mixed with Japanese.

Jules: Wait hang on

Jules: They weren’t friends because they were good at the same things?

Jules: I thought that Jonny always treated Carmilla like some kind of idol, having a little crush on her and all.

Tim: they did after exchanging notebooks by accident! Jonny loved Carmilla’s songs so much and Carmilla loved his stories so much that they finally talked normally and became friends

Tim: and yes Jonny had very strong feelings for Carmilla from the start, but he’s just terrible at expressing it

Tim: like a kid bothering another one because they don’t know how to keep their attention on them

Tim: but I doubt it was romantic

Jules: Wait wait wait

Jules: are you implying that this new assistant Jonny just met is his new crush?

Tim: that’s what I’m asking you!

Jules: well… it’s true that Jonny has troubles to express himself…

Some doodles for my own TMA / Mechanisms Crossover!! Not my favorite set of doodles but I wanted to get the concept out there.

I'm writing a fic for this au >:] Technically, a oneshot exists out there, but ya'll will just have to find it lol.

I love all the 'The Mechanisms were Jonathan Sims's College Band' aus on ao3, so I wanted to take a shot at one of my own.

TS/Nikola (outside of the horrors) is an aspiring makeup artist during Uni and goes professional later on. Love it for that. Also, Toy is the first person Jon meets out of the band.

Jon has gone through 3 million hair lengths in a single decade. He started short, had a bit of a nonbinary awakening and grew it out for a while, cut it again after breaking up with Georgie, grew it out again (mostly because he experienced a few horrors earlier than planned, hence the scars on his neck), and then cut and straightened it when he became Archivist. He will grow it out again, trust.

In this AU, Jon loses touch with the Mechs after Uni and only reconnects with them because Jordan/GPTim showed up at the Magnus Institute for an unrelated reason and ran into Research Era Jon. That was a very fun conversation to have.

I like giving them (The Mechs) all a little star motif because I wanted them to have some sort of subtle rep of their friendship that they can have around in their daily lives without drawing too much attention.

Jon and Georgie dated for nearly 4 years in this au. They stayed friends (after a short break) because I love them.
