i think my point is like. i think shipping something divorced from the actual aims of the book/show/whatever is like. completely fine! i encourage it! shipping can be a great way to explore relationships that don't get explored on screen.

i really hate this fandom trend of shipping being synonymous with "want to be canon".

like theres so much value in just saying "i want to see how this relationship plays out" or "i see something in this relationship that doesnt get explored in canon the way i want it to" without like holding the writers hostage over it
