Honestly, I'm so glad that TMNT Mutant Mayhem is super weird. It's batshit insane. It's grimy, it's gross, it's silly, and it's good fun. But underneath the surface, it's about what it means to be family and that it's okay to be different.
During the movie, I was thinking "Oh yeah, this is what TMNT is all about." No matter what iteration of TMNT I'm watching, all of them are bizarre and wild. But all of them have a ton of heart as well, and I think that Mutant Mayhem absolutely nailed these aspects.
It's a certified TMNT movie. It knows what the true appeal of TMNT is.

ik the writing for season 4 of the umbrella academy was kinda shit but honestly? lowkey loved it idk. there's something about this tragedy actually ending as a tragedy.
diego wanting to fix his relationship only for him to never know whether or not lila loved him. lila losing her family after desperately wanting one for years. allison having to give up her daughter again. klaus having the power that made him ruin his life.
like yeah, they were never supposed to be happy. no matter how hard they tried, no matter how much they desperately wanted it. it's a tragedy for them and them alone and if you look at it that way? maybe it was a decent ending

i have grown kinda tired of all the studio ghibli and totk comparisons bc i love most of miyazakis movies and its so annoyingly obvious that if totk actually took inspiration from them its all just the surface level aesthetic and none of the good story telling
