WITCH THOUGHTS LET'S GOOOOO!

THEY IMPROVED CARMELA THANK FUCK! They did it for me..! ^v^ She is WAY more coordinated and the colours are sooo nice! The frilly skirt bit is soooo cute! I love how she kinda looks like an octopus or some kind of sea creature. Not sure how well that links with Manaka but eh. I don't think there's much I dislike here. Perhaps the knife rack thing is a little out of place? Not sure. Now as the witch from the doppel hmmmm it seems like the circular bit is completely lost... for link-age, that's not great but getting rid of it to make the design better, i am wholeheartedly down for. She is a big win for me!

Obariyon. I'm hmmmmm not sure. I don't hate it. Why does its head look like a bear? Is it cause like... Obeariyon..? I just don't know if this would be what I'd imagine the full witch to be... The doppel makes me think more of an insect or something whereas this is going for a mammal it seems. It's good but I'm on the fence whether I personally like it.

From the silhouette from the trailer I was super worried about Hevelius but I think I like her? I think her shape is interesting and as stupid as the head is, I think it's fun. But I do have gripes. I'm a bit bothered that the white fabric bit that was so focal before is just completely gone and the head piece and veil is completely removed, like c'mon, that could've been super pretty on her head. And I'm not sure about the coral-looking uhhh thing. And I hate those legs why do they look unfinished? As I rack up the complaints maybe I don't like it..? Hm... I feel like I could improve it using that shape base though. She's fine.

Also... THE HEAD LOOKS LIKE THAT MANNEQUIN HEAD FROM RUPAUL'S DRAG RACE BUT I CAN'T REMEMBER ITS NAME

Now we're getting onto the ones I super like again wheeee! I think Pennen Nolde is so fun, the little matchstick girl theme is ace! I'm sad some super cool aspects of the doppel are gone though... I loved the matchstick thing and the lace and hanging diamonds but eh, maybe they just didn't fit. She's good and I can see it working the other way if the doppel came second. Although the legs are simple, I think the doll legs work and aren't bland like Hevelius'

Pennen Nemenu, ough, I think she's beautiful! I think she takes from the doppel super well! I miss the weird teapot head but I think the head they chose is also cool. Maybe add the tassels onto the end of the hat thing? I love how the main body is utilised into her bloomers (one thing I was sad was missed about Nolde) and she's super cute. My only gripe is her body shape, she is a child she does not need a stick thin waist and boobs, thank you

Now I did notice that these last 3 doppels share a similar body shape and I get that for important, linked characters. I don't think it's a bad thing cause they're all unique enough on their own.

And back to disappointed. My fears came true, I did not want her witch to just be the Nightmare-esque part... sigh... it doesn't even take from it well... no ears? Hair completely wrong colour, face completely different, stripes going wrong way. Like, I get it. Gas mask for poisons, bandage on head for uhh illness (i dont know enough about Alina but she was in the hospital right?) but it's not her doppel. Disappointing.

In my world the operator and slenderman are two separate entities. The operators goal is simply to cause madness. It feeds on fear and anger so it only wants to invoke such emotions. The slenderman wants control over the humans and to study them as a whole because it finds them fascinating. It will try to mimic the behaviours of those it watches. In my lore they are similar in design. The operator has a tree like texture to its skin and is much taller than the slenderman. While the slenderman has indents in its face area to sort of mimic where eyes and a mouth would go. They are of the same species but because of their different goals, they evolved differently with how they affect those around them. I could keep going but I think this is more than enough of a ramble. I'm gonna start signing off with something since I keep dropping lore to you, if that's okay. -🎃 or 🍂 (whichever you prefer)

My main cursioity now is probably the logistics of like… if they’re a species as a whole instead of just one entity, are there more ??! Why isn’t the operator capable of just tearing things down etc etc… why r these dudes IN SUITS ⁉️⁉️⁉️ jk but srsly LOL

I think I wanna lean more into those ideas of like one being or deity or something.. maybe creating them or splitting off into two and then slendy and operator r “born” seperstely but from the same roots hmmmm… sort of (?) like some sibling rivalry ranging back thousands of years. IDK my shift starts in 4 mins LMFAOOA but seriously I’m into this idea . Maybe just stick w them both wanting to keep paranormal stuff at bay from the public eye but slenderman has no ulterior motive while operator wants that whole control thing hmmmmmmm

ok here's the sketchy whatever i did 2night, was gonna do some basic colors but i got sleeeepyyyy so maybe tomorrow ill do that lol

HEHFHSFEHFJK anyway. alda beloved none of this will make sense to u so ill try to give spark notes explanations as i go but. these two goobers are rsa [royal sword academy - the rival school that seems to be more based on the Good Guy™ disney characters rather than the main school's villains lol] students.

the very short summary is guy on left (Char - I looked thru sooo many names for him and that's the one i ended up on lol. some twst names are really on the nose like VIL for the EVIL QUEEN so why cant i use char!) is cater diamond's [a canon character who's said to have moved around a lot] childhood friend from when they were like 5 but lost contact w/him. Dañarte (literally not a name. it's spanish for 'hurt you' and it only came up/his existence spawns from a typo turned autocorrect in a message i was sending my frined and we just kept it for funsies and i made a character out of it lol 😭) is his shady cousin that has a charming friendly appearance but is going to cause problems on purpose bc hes a bitter baby or whatever.

i have a lot more details w/them and their connection with BESTIE CATER but that's not what the ask was about so i will HOLD BACK!!! for now.

A) Why are you excited about this character?

because!!! i see a lot of people make really creative twst ocs based off other disney characters and i think that's SO FUN!!!! i dont really think i myself am very creative of a person, but this was something i kinda got to have fun with. i had the initial thought with char based off one random fanart I saw like forever ago, so i borrowed the starting idea and then just completely ran off with it to do my own thing, SPIN MY OWN WEB!!!! [i think the fanart was like, just some random rsa guy recognizing cater; it was japanese fanart so i had limited google translate on my side - idr if the childhood friend thing was part of it or if that's just a thing my brain decided to fill in the blanks?? anyway i went from there / designed my own random guy / started LORE BUILDING and EXPANDING]

also their involvement is very much a soap opera esque TEEN ROMANCE DRAMA which i think is funny. a lot of this came from just talking to my friend in discord cuz there was no engtwst at the time and she was the only person i knew that i could talk to about twst, so even tho these are my characters, it's something that spawned from me going ham in our discord messages and us bouncing ideas off each other and just havin private fun. unrestrained goofs!!!

D) Have they always had the same physical appearance, or have you had to edit how they look?

HMMMM well according to all the doodles i'd compiled in one spot, it does look like i just went with my initial ideas for both of em and kept it. they r not that deeply thought out bc i am Not much of a designer - god bless the school uniform i could steal so i didnt have to come up w/clothes kfjlsdf. and tbh theyre pretty basic right now so for all i know, maybe this is the prototype. maybe they've yet to go through their first evolution. WHO KNOWS!!!! but in their case, their existence came more from the SOAP OPERA DRAMA storyline i came up with, and wasn't so much based on appearance/character design. i mostly just had doodles and sketchy concepts just so i could continue to doodle parts of said story for funsies to send my friend on discord lol

(my current hyperfixation is dsmp sorry i promise i don't watch any racist youtubers) ✨ what draws you towards your hyperfixation? what is interesting about it? i think what draws me towards it is like.....at once it is both hilarious and cursed and genuinely heartfelt. like there's room for both tommy and foolish's sea pickle bit and the conversation about if tommy thinks he's a good person or a bad person and how he doesn't want to give up on the people he loves, in the same stream, yknow? there's room for both c! fundy's mom being a fish and all the cursed implications of that and also for him to be genuinely heartbroken about her disappearance and wilbur's abandonment of him. also there's a lot of worldbuilding that's sort of left empty, which means i get to fill in the cracks! i can build myself my own little world in they leave open. i talk about it a lot in my art streams, but the fact that it's not modern or fantasy, that some characters are maybe robots while others are anthro mobs or animals, all of these things let me go ham on the designs. i love worldbuilding so so much dude. so so much. 1) What is the character you've drawn the most (Can be original or fanart)

This precious boy. I can never get enough of him. One of the most compelling characters I have ever come across. Love everything about Fenris and can relate to him on so many levels!

2. What colour do you often use? 

Gray and brown are my faves. And all other colours have the same chance of appearing in my artwork :D

3. Any colour you are bad at using?

I don’t think so...I love them all, even the pinks and yellows people usually find hard to incorporate into a colour palette. Tell me in the comments if I’m wrong :)

4. When drawing people, where do you start? 

Funnily enough - either with the front of the hairline or with the left eyebrow. Don’t ask me, why - I don’t know myself.

5. What is a character only your eraser will love?

Hmmmm...any sort of villainous character. I can’t draw evil people convincingly. I’m a huge softy at heart.

6. Which of your works took the longest time? 

Big scale commission I did for @pikapeppa​, featuring all the Inquisition companions, along with Fenris, Rynne and Carver Hawke. That one took almost 3 weeks, due to its sheer scope and my relative lack of experience in such large works. Pika was extremely patient with me though, for that I am eternally thankful!

7. What techniques do you use when you want to improve in drawing? 

Classical art studies. Varying my technique, themes I choose and software I use. I try to experiment and go outside my comfort zone often.

8. What do you think of the art of the person who gave you this ask meme? 

I adore Lillymon’s technical skill, refined style and limited colours! She is a huge inspiration for me!

9. What art tools/media are you good with? 

DrawPile, Photoshop, graphite pencils and liners. That’s about it :)

10. Art tools/media you are bad at? 

Traditional paints. I have no formal artistic education and my lack of knowledge comes to the forefront whenever I have to paint on a real canvas. It’s so much trial and error, you can’t even imagine....

11. What do you think about your own art? 

Lately it’s one of the last few things that were bringing me joy. I hope I won’t lose the passion for it. Because at this point I’m not sure I’ll be able to find some occupation I will be genuinely interested in and good at it. I don’t know if me gravitating towards moody fantasy art speaks about my fear of facing reality. If so, idk what to do with that. I do hope to develop my skills and being able to support myself financially as an artist.

12. Do you consult references for your drawings? 

Yes. A lot of them. Anatomical atlases, schemes for both academic and manga art, photographs found online and taken on my own, copying colour palettes from classical art - anything goes. I think it’s essential to develop your technical skill.

13. What do you like about your art? 

Lately - consistency, both in terms of produced results and in sticking to the timelines I set to myself. I hope this lasts. I would also like to branch out to other themes and not confine myself to quirky fantasy characters, so I’m working on developing my own story behind the scenes (spoilers) :P

14. What habits do you have while drawing?

Only the bad ones, lol. Hunching forward in front of the screen, forgetting to eat, drink and letting my eyes rest. Tilting my head to the side instead of rotating the canvas....I’m an idiot XD

15. Are you good at drawing faces facing right? 

I think that’s the thing I’m good at!

16. How frequently do you draw? 

For the last 1,5 years - almost every day without fail, for good or ill.

17. What do you do when you have artist's block? 

Change occupation and work myself into a depressed state. I changed work places in the last few years a lot, working as an interior designer, draftsman, textile designer, a cook, a bartender to name a few.

18. What must you have when you draw? 

No commotion around me and a cup of some hot beverage.

19. Do you have a lot of stray lines (messy lineart)? 

In the starting stage of my work process - yes, like you wouldn’t believe! If it’s a personal doodle, I sometimes just leave in as am under layer and draw clean lines on top of that mess. It looks cool in a way.

20. What is drawing to you?

An essential part of what helped me to retain my sanity in the last year and a half. Hopefully a lasting profession that will help me pay bills and survive on my own, if my life falls apart entirely later.

21. Your art goal from now on? 

Broaden the themes I depict, improve my technical skill, work on personal creative project and not only fan arts. And most of all - not giving up on it this time.

To name a few: @kallielef​ @kourvo​ @shayafury​ @fairsparrow​ who I met here on Tumblr, and many others who I follow and zealously study their works for clues on how to improve my own work.

I am following them all either here or on Instagram, I also do my best to share their works on my side blog!

24. Which is easier to draw, humans or animals? 

It was animals earlier. But now that I started to diligently study human anatomy, I would say it evened out! I’m quite confident drawing humans/humanoids now!

I ummm....I don’t really get the question? Is that like the the strongest suit of me as an artist? Intense expressions maybe? Idk. Let me know in the comments :D

I usually gravitate towards depicting strong-willed, caring, passionate, brave, honest men and women.

30. What did you draw yesterday? 

Started cleaning up that sketch from the last question, actually!

31. What is the funnest part to draw? 

A circle. Mostly because you’d die laughing seeing my struggle to draw a believable one XD

32. What part of other people's drawings do you notice first? 

colours, mood, eyes, hands.

33. Regarding backgrounds, what is your method of making it easier to draw? 

pick your favourite textured brush, find a good reference for mood and colour scheme, zoom out, squint your eyes and start slapping colours like mad. You’d be amazed at how much you’ll be able to achieve in 30 minutes with this approach. Bare white background is the enemy - destroy it! >:)

34. What colour coordinations do you like? 

Gray or brown as a main colour and then deep, earthy, saturated colours to complement the main one. Pink and orange is the combination I strangely enjoy using lately too.

35. What character did you last draw? Fenris and Eris :)

36. Does your style change easily? 

I don’t think so. More like it’s evolving slowly into something more serious and deliberate.

37. What part of drawing do you pay most attention to? 

Facial expression, body movement, mood and light effects. Not so much the composition and framing, he he.

38. How do you feel about drawing adult art? 

Tbh, I don’t consider straight up porn to be ‘adult’ exactly. To me adult art means aiming towards serious topics, exploring complex emotions and ideas, being honest with your viewer. I did doodle a few more steamy sketches of my OTP just to see if I could, but it was definitely a tongue-in-cheek kind of a artwork that I don’t take seriously.

39. Do you like criticism from others? 

If it’s friendly and in done in private - I welcome it always.

40. How many people do you normally draw per artwork? 

1 or 2. Rarely more. Crowded battle scenes are definitely not my thing :D

she’s a cis girl

pepper just means pepper! spicy!! her full name is pepper braxton jane :0 she’s got a lot of nicknames lol,, pep, stud, pepperoni, and PB&J (her initials)

5. What’s their relationship with their parents like? What about other relatives?

she loves her parents a lot!! her relationship with marney is a little more strained because of how protective marney is and because pepper was such a big troublemaker in her teens. she gets along better with topaz and listens to her more :0 her other relatives are her uncle toni and her cousin eve, who she gets along with great! her and eve are like sisters

7. Are they in a romantic relationship? With who? How did they meet?

in the future she gets together with mack of course, who she met one night at a pop-up party. mack was one of nova’s performers and pepper just became super infatuated with her and just fell in love with her as they became better and better friends

9. What is their favorite color? Favorite animal?

she likes RED and loves animals in general!! but has a soft spot for raspurrs (a cat creature that looks like a fluffy little cloud with feet and a tail)

11. If they could make a mark on history, what would they like it to be?

she would like to bring more love into the world,, shes all about that lovey dovey shit

she works out, does spoken poetry, plays string instruments (violin, bass, guitar, etc), and works on/rides her motorcycle!! and eats njdkf

she has a big fear of getting seriously hurt again, like breaking her legs or getting another TBI. if that were to happen it would probably cause a big relapse with her ptsd and depression :( maybe another little grey period

OOF being persistently loud pisses her off, mixed signals, persistent cynicism, stuff like that. interrupt her once and she’ll be pissed off the whole time u talk lol

pretty high tbh? she can take some pain

pretty good tbh! she can have two beers and still be okay. shes a happy, loosey goosey drunk who just wants to snuggle and give compliments. she doesnt get hangovers often cuz she tries to drink responsibly but,, when she does get them she’s in bed all day or puking in the tub like a mess

she made friends with a bunch of punks so she got deep into rowdy punk culture lol >:) and marney’s overprotectiveness pushed her to be more of a troublemaker. after her bike crash tho she had a major shift in personality and chilled out a LOT

she’s good with kids but worries,, she inherited marney’s mama bear gene for sure. she eventually has kids with mack in their 30s but def wanted kids ever since falling in love with mack ;v;

hmmmm she likes being inside cuz her cozy bed nest is there but will happily sit outside on a nice day so she can cook in the sun and get more freckles lol

While growing up with parents of different culture, she became more into a life of both cultures and arts. The only thing that Angel loves to do is being with family and friends. I got my share of drama and had my share of good times with my friends. I was'nt one of the popular students in school. People knew me as the girl who knew how to draw, so I ended up doing people art projects. I didnt mind it, because i really love to draw. Most of the time in class i was doing my work because thats why i went to school, to do my work and get smarter in life. I didnt like when people wasted 4 years of there life in high school doing drugs and drinking beer. To me that was just stupid. No offense, but there was better things to do then drinking and doing drugs. AA: Are you one of those church girls or is there a bad side to you? AMA: ( laugh ) Actually i did do some things i was'nt proud of. I never did drugs or drink beer. I was always clean form all that stuff. I did cheat in school and did skip class because sometimes you have to live alittle. You need some excitement in your life. And hmmmm, I guess my way of staying motivated is… giving myself strict deadlines? hmmmm ill just go over how I write a comic and maybe you’ll pick a tip or two hopefully

✨✨ INSERTDISC5′S REALLY LONG “HOW DO I MAKE COMICS” EXTRAVAGANZA (WITH PICTURES) AFTER THE CUT. ITS KINDA LONG SORRY ✨✨

STEP ONE: GET A DANG IDEA (the hardest step, obviously.)

This one is pretty simple. Get a dang idea. Sometimes I wrack my head for weeks trying to find out an idea that could sorta work, and sometimes I’m just chillin and dreamin and I get the full story and I have to wake up and write it all immediately. I have no tips on that one my brain is a capricious fuck and will just do whatevs

this step takes me between a day and three months

STEP TWO: DEVELOP YOUR IDEA

Now you got your idea. Could be something as simple as “hey what if a hero and a villain met and became friends n stuff” or you could somehow have the whole dang story figured out already, lucky you. 

Anyways I just write it down first. Usually it’s like “this happens and THIS happens and this other thing happens” but there’s nothing bridging those lil perfect moments together, so thats when I start figuring it out, embellishing it! It’s the world-building part, the figuring out your characters part, the “im having fun!!!” part. I just write everything down, all the things that could happen, the moments where I HAVE to have a panel of the heroes looking at each other, JUST WRITE IT ALL DOWN!!!! MAKE DIFFERENT PATHS!!! DIFFERENT ENDINGS!!! WHO CARES YOU’LL WORRY ABOUT PICKING OUT THE BEST ONE LATER

I also make a folder with all my visual inspiration+references I’ll need later. If i know I’m gonna have battle scenes, I make a folder with a bunch of shonen manga pages. If I’m gonna need to draw a forest, just shove forest pictures in there. Oh the hero is gonna be a buff knight? JUST FIND PICTURES OF BUFF PEOPLE AND COOL ARMOR!!!! REFERENCES ARE IMPORTANT!!!!

(those are the references folders for Change)

A note: finding the ending is always the hardest part. Just do your best and pray

this step takes me between three days and two months

STEP THREE: ERASE LIKE HALF OF IT

By that point I have a buncha pages of story and backstory and useless trivia written down, so it’s time to delete half of it. Yup. GOTTA MAKE YOUR STORY SIMPLE AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND

The rule I have when I’m at that point is: “is it useful to the story? If I removed this specific moment/piece of dialogue/whatever, would the story still make sense?” and if the answer is “eh, it’s not that useful”, I remove it. Just to make the story as self-contained as I can! (exceptions to the rule: it’s a REALLY COOL MOMENT and I know I’d have fun drawing it/reading it. THEN i keep it)

As an example, for Change I had the queen of the kindgom the hero came from appear for like, 4 pages, so she could explain what the hero’s goal was, and also to look real intimidating and show the hero didn’t really have a choice in starting their journey, but after looking at my story I decided she wasn’t? Really important to the story? That there were other ways to show the hero didn’t really know what they were doing without adding a whole new character. So BAM i deleted her from existence so she doesn’t appear at all now.

this step takes me like. two days. At this point I know I have a good idea so I know I’m DOING IT DUDE IM MAKING THIS COMIC so it starts going faster

STEP FOUR: LOGISTICS N STUFF

Time to make an excel file! This is how mine usually looks

I always make an excel file so I can have an easy way to know: what each page is gonna have/what each page’s status is/what reference to look at or what I need to remember to draw. Also the notes are sometimes to say “HEY DUMMY YOU FORGOT TO COLOR THE EYES” so its a very important column. Sometimes I add a column with when I need that page to be done by, or a column saying HEY YOU’RE ¼ OR HALFWAY OR ¾ THERE for encouragement or whatever lmao

This is also usually at that point that I give myself a deadline+schedule that I stick to! For 199 Years Slumber I gave myself 3 weeks (knowing I’d be done before), and gave myself a specific number of pages to do every day. I know I draw fast so I gave myself something like 3-4 pages to do per day from Monday to Friday, and double that during weekends, but that’s my speed and you should tailor that to yourself and do less/more!

This is ALSO the step where I start doing thumbnails! I usually made a few already when I have a clear idea of what I want certain moments/pages to look like, but that’s when I make lil thumbnails for each page. I just use post its it doesnt need to be all pretty n stuff

I ALSO ALSO figure out the style, the character designs, etc. I make some doodles, some page examples, so when I ACTUALLY start I’m not looking at a blank page like “oops”. I most likely already thought of it before but that’s when it solidifies itself in my mind! 

this step takes me. a day? three days?

STEP FIVE: JUST DO IT

Just draw the comic. By that point I have my story, the pages+ their description, references, a schedule, etc, so it’s pretty smooth sailing from here on out. JUST DO IT!!!!

Don’t forget to buy yourself some takeout. I never wanna cook for myself when I start drawing comics lmao, make this period of time where you’re gonna draw comics as stress free as possible!!!

STEP SIX: ????

EDIT: wait no its not ??? it’s polishing and editing and reviewing it. it’s an important step. so important i forgot about it. thanks @spookyram for reminding me lmao

I’ve only been 20 for less than 2 weeks and its been my favorite so far. I’ve dedicated my time to the things that have mattered most to me and I’ve never felt more focused and in control of my life and where I’ll take myself.

hhhhhhhh okay okay okay okay so its raining out but we still were supposed to meet up and im standing outside with a cup of hot choco with extra whip cream just the way she likes it cause i wanted to get it for her and when she comes to meet me she also has a cup of hot choco with extra cocoa for me and its just the kinda heart and chest swelling kinda moment cause we both were thinking about each other and then we head over to watch the movies first something stupid yet enjoyable and after going to have some lunch at like a really good tofu house and then after going to an art museum and then ill say somethign cheesy like man im surprised you dont live here ‘why?’ cause youre a work of art  or you know whats the most beautiful piece of art out of this whole exhibit ‘ooo was it the ______ or the _____ one or maybe its the ______?” nah its you and thats the main commentary im making through out the whole exhibition and like after that we head over to my place and the rains still coming down my head on her lap and her fingers through my hair as watch a movie both of us has seen far too many times already that it this point its just for the sake of background noise and like we swap spots where shes on my lap now adn eventually she falls asleep i carry her to the bed and let her nap for a bit and she wakes up after a while and comes into the kitchen and im cooking fried rice at like 3 in the morning and its just lazy hugs and bad singing but all in all its just relaxing soothing loving and everything i really want

oh fuck okay so its one where i got a like four big dogs (cause these are my faves), a samoyed a husky a german shepard and a pit bull, and im living in a nice decent place with my loved one i have a job either at one of the major animation studios or im working with a huge game company (preferably Nintendo so i can work on some loz games) and ive also got a seperate place thats a block or two away from my home and its my own personal studio a place that is just a whole floor dedicated to working on my art whether it be two dimensional traditional or digital and i also got a throwing wheel and a place to put my ceramics and ive made some movies and games that ive dedicated to mrs q and mrs y because theyve brought me so far in my art career and also played such a big role in my life in general and id love to make them proud and like honestly that soudns like the absolute shit to me
