ohhhh man, imagine if jin guangyao was prince yu's strategist instead of qin banruo.... 😬 i think he'd give mei changsu a run for his money in terms of who would actually succeed in putting their respective princes on the throne. i mean i still thing mei changsu would ultimately succeed in helping jingyan become the crown prince, just because he knows all of the pressure points to hit in this society and where all the bodies are buried. (sometimes literally.)

i don't like thinking about jin guangyao and mei changsu being in opposition to each other tho, so maybe in this hypothetical scenario, jin guangyao is actually one of mei changsu's disciples from the jianghu, and mei changsu embeds him in xiao jinghuan's household to ingratiate himself and slowly ice out qin banruo. sorry qin banruo, but you were never going to win anyway--and maybe jin guangyao finds out The Truth™️ through that process. gasp!!
