can we talk about how awesome Pythia was for a second? in the midst of a civilization ending civil war she left her people to document the journey of the 13th tribe for reasons unknown (unless they explained it in Caprica which I still haven't watched) but possibly in the hope that she could keep them tethered to the other 12 so they could one day reunite (which they frakking did!!) and not be lost to the stars forever. And then, after following them on that journey (and I guess sticking around for a while to watch them reconstruct their society since she described the Temple of Aurora) she went on her own pilgrammage back across the universe and made the journey all the way back to the twelve colonies, possibly alone but almost definitely without jump drive technology, to bring back word that the 13th had made a new home.
I don't need another remake of Battlestar (or whatever they're doing over at Peacock, if that project is even still alive), but I would absolutely be seated for a prequel about that journey.

it takes years for terry pratchett's books to get consistently good. I would argue that the series doesn't really hit its stride until Feet of Clay, which means that pratchett was writing and being published for 12 years before he found his groove.
and I genuinely can't imagine that. in part because I do think that pratchett's publication calendar looks different than what's expected of writers today---he had about 2 books published per year for his entire career. he must have been writing furiously, and the publisher must have relatively quickly gotten these to press.
but also....I just can't imagine any modern-day publisher keeping an author on their list for twelve years, unless that author is a prestige get or a constant presence on the bestseller list. And what does it say about the state of publishing that you can't go on publishing someone's good-but-not-revelatory books until they figure out what story they're trying to tell?

OHH HELL YEAH STARCHILD FIC SOON?? Books front row seats SO idk if anyone asked this before BUT- What happens to the contestants in the starchild au? does mephone just.....leave or is this post ii17 because if yeah then.. Ahem Aside that! hyfin do you have any other au ideas :D
YEAH idk when cause it's a bit of a huge project but it's smth i'm really excited to start fully working on!
to answer your questions, the au takes place post-ii18, which DOES make things a little tough with the uncertainty of what happens, but regardless the contestants in this timeline get brought back from being erased.
after arriving, mephone and the shimmers didn't stay on inanimate planet for very long. after everything was resolved and the contestants were back, it was mostly finding a place in the real world for the ex-contestants to stay and working out how they would be able to implement themselves into society. (i talk a little about where they go here)
when the last few of the cast were preparing to boat off the island, mepad insisted mephone take up prime's offer and stay with the shimmers. things were still tense between mephone and a handful of the other ex-contestants, and though he didn't want to leave everyone, run away again, he knew it would be good for himself to move on to new things and let them live freely. especially when being on the island was causing him to be so hard on himself.
after a long conversation, mepad boarded the last boat, and mephone went back to the egg ship.

Whenever I do a TMA s1 relisten I love love love finding things that ended up changing over the next few seasons as the show became more fully fleshed out. Tim being serious and Sasha being the joker? Iconic. Whatever the fuck entity was leaving bags of doll heads and prayers on some random doorstep? Who even are you. How could you do that. What’s your number.
Anyway I need more of these to keep going thanks

I think the realization that what I'm writing this month isn't something I think anyone would want to read, but it is something I want to write, has saved my motivation

spoilers for Across the Spiderverse if the tags didn't filter correctly or smthn
thinking about how miles was bit by the e42 spider. how because of the spider finding him peter died. how aaron died. how the collider could've doomed them all. but like, this event causes peter to get back with mj and have a kid, noir takes home some color, and gwen falls for miles and captain stacy quits. none of these things were supposed to happen, yet their universes didn't collapse. e42 should've collapsed without a spider-man, and it didn't! the only proof we have of a universe collapsing is the one miguel stayed in. pavitr's had a black hole, which is strangely visually (and maybe just generally) different from what happened to miguel? i can't help but wonder if miguel is the real anomaly, not miles.,, or at least, miguel's need to be in control is the anomaly? the no one person should control the multiverse thing, yk? and that's what he's trying to do! honestly the funniest part to me is that he's not even peter parker but he fr thinks he should be the leader. like lmao. you're a side story king. that tangent aside idk, it's weird to me that the events of itsv didn't fuck things up the way miguel implies they should have.
i just can't help but think miguel's hypothesis is flawed? as far as i can remember he's only witnessed an event like this once. like, what even was meant to happen after he died on the other earth that caused it to disintegrate? was his daughter supposed to grow up and become a spider or something? once again i gesture to how 42 never had a spider-man and was fine! okay it wasn't FINE but the universe kept going. something doesn't add up.

Checking Momo stuff for a reply, I wondered if his paralogue had any lolcalised stuff :
Tumblr media
The JP text is more explicit, Momo struggles with his "urges" to slaughter instead of the very sad "he suffered for his muderous past :'("
Billy's line in the localised script can be interpreted as them being glad they put an end to Momo's suffering, aka giving him a mercy kill, but in the JP!version it's inferred that the "ended it" doesn't mean Momo's life, but his urges - like "I'm glad we kille him so he won't struggle with his urges to slaughter people", but I'm still pissed it's seen as something good for Momo, and not, you know, good so no one else will die because a maniac killer was roaming in this forest.
Now comes the pot of tea :
Tumblr media
We still have this shit "blood of the beast no longer I now become human".
Fittingly for a paralogue native to Fraud's route, the difference between "beast and human" isn't spelled out, because you can drink a cup of tea while agreeing that Rhea is a cruel beast, but Maurice finally returned to being a "human", aka not a black beast on death, so Marianne isn't "beast blooded".
Which is even more hilarious when you consider what her crest is - yes Mary-Ann, you are "beast" blooded, rather "Nabatean" blooded even if Momo was/is/returned to his human form. And the verse dgaf about, idk, Poppy*, the Nabatean who was slaughtered by Maurice/used by Maurice to get his super-powers.
Less hilarious is the implication - in the jp text when the loc just went with a general sobfest for Momo's backstory - that Momo was struggling with his urges to slaughter...
When Nopes (sure it's a later thing, so it might count as a retcon?) reveals Momo was already slaughtering people right and left (and even potentially his own allies!), even back as a human!
So, when in his paralogue Momo goes :
My beastly blood is roused... You will not be able to stop me!
Is he actually "blaming" his urges to slaughter on his "beastly blood", aka, on Poppy??? Like, it's the Nabatean's fault if he wants to slaughter? Was he pulling the same shit back then during the WoH "oh noes, if I slaughter my allies and plant wild oats, it's not because of me being an asshole, but's the fault of that weird beast whose blood I drank!"
But hey, it's peak Fodlan writing, aka, victim blaming at its finest, and no one calling it BS.
*if the game won't give names to the Nabateans who became relics, I'll have to come up with something to talk about them lol

alright shannon, the neverseen's plan once again makes no fucking sense and relies way too much on plot convenience rather than actual planning!
the ogre peace summit only happened because sophie and co flooded ravagog and the ogres lost, which the neverseen weren't planning on having happen. they planned for sophie and co to try to break in to steal the "cure" (actually the plague) and release it on the gnomes living in the lost cities, but they weren't planning for them to actually succeed at getting away (shown by fintan and brant trapping them and planning to take them to their hideout)
gethen got captured before this had even become a thing, meaning there was never any guarantee that there would be a peace summit during which he could escape and humiliate the council
once again, nobody would tell gethen that there was even going to be a peace summit. he realistically would not even know that that's a thing that is happening. and peace summits aren't planned events. they only happen whenever a treaty needs to be brokered. so there is no way he would've known when it was happening, or that it was happening at all. and he's not telepathically gifted enough to transmit long distances, because he's not sophie
all this to say, the neverseen's plan seems cool and smart, but once again, shannon relies way too much on plot convenience and further examination shows that it makes no fucking sense

i always find it so funny when ppl try to tell me characters from hp or hp itself is the most well written or nuanced series they’ve ever seen. i enjoy the franchise as well but have you ever engaged with media outside of hp? you cannot tell me books written by a white privileged bigot is the most well written or nuanced series you’ve ever read😭😭

And it ends like this
On the one hand, so epic, also make sense this manga is about Samus' past. On the other I kind of would have liked to see how they would have depicted the fight against Mother Brain here and the aftermath of it even a bit
But all in all this was a great read! And gave me so much info and insight on the lore that the metroid games so far did NOT gave me
