Archaeologist Clay Holliman returns to the Yucatan to evaluate and complete the excavation conducted by his one-time mentor, John Catlett Davies, who died tragically on-site before work could be completed.  But was it an accident?

Se cuenta que hace muchos años, cuando la tierra era joven, habitaba en el Mayab un animal hermoso, cuyo poder rivalizaba con el Jaguar, tenia un hermoso plumaje, pelaje o piel; unas piernas largas y veloces y un maravilloso canto que cualquier ave podría envidiar. - Este animal era el Aak -.

Pero la tierra aún era muy joven y no habia en el cielo noctuno una lumbrera como el sol durante el día, así que los animales vagaban en las tinieblas tropezando al caminar, chocando unos con otros y sin poder cazar para comer, razón por la que sufrían. Sin embargo, Aak en un apice de sabiduría e ingenio, tuvo una idea: "¿por que no pedimos al sol que ilumine también la noche para que no tengamos más problemas?" -dijo- y a todos los animales les agradó la sugerencia, pero el sol no escucharía sus solas plegarías, por lo que Aak creó, con su hermosa voz, un cantó para que el sol escuchara y así comentar su pesar, pudieran.

El sol, compadecido, respondió: -trabajo muy duro todo el día, calentando y brindando luz al Mayab, por lo que no podría hacerlo también durante la noche, pero puedo darles una gota de mi saliba, la cual tendrán que recibirla y cargarla hasta que se enfríe, solo así podrán colocarla en el cielo noctuno. No está de más decir que será difícil y peligroso-.

Tuvieron que pasar varios días para que los animales aceptaran la idea por completo, pero nadie estaba dispuesto a hacer tal sacrificio que el sol habia propuesto. Excepto Aak, quién era muy orgulloso y quería que su idea se llevara acabo.

Con piedras macizas y aplanadas hicieron una plancha la que amarraron con resistentes raíces y untaron con pegajosa recina. El plan era, -tal como dijo el sol-, cargar sobre la espalda la pancha de rocas y en ella la gota solar hasta que esta se enfriará y así, los murciélagos de la noche, pudieran subirla al cielo. Fue entonces que Aak se ofreció a llevarla sobre su espalda, creyendo que su plan tendría éxito.

Llegó el día anhelado, el sol dejó caer, durante el ocaso, una pequeña pero pesada gota de su ardiente saliba, tan caliente como lava de volcán, sobre la vasija de piedra que Aak, acompañado de otros animales, habían logrado subir a la punta de la montaña más alta.

Cuesta abajo, Aak cargó la gota y los animales soplaban por turnos, con sus hocicos, colas, orejas y aleteos hasta lograr enfriarla. Por tanto calor, Aak perdió su plumaje y su piel se oscureció. A causa del gran peso que cargaba, sus piernas se enchaparraron y su caminar se hizo lento. Fue tanto el dolor que causaron las quemaduras que perdió su voz hasta pronunciar solo pequeños gemidos.

No obstante, al caer la noche, logró llegar al río, la gota solar se enfrió por completo y los animales bañaron a Aak con sus aguas, descubriendo que la plancha de rocas se había fundido con su cuerpo. Rápidamente, los murciélagos de la oscuridad, llegaron para colocar en el cielo nocturno aquella gota que emanaba una radiante luz, pero fue tanta su luminiscencia que quedaron ciegos para siempre.

A la gota de luz se le llamó luna. Y de Aak queda lo que hoy llamamos tortuga. Es gracias a su sacrificio que todas las noches se alza una lumbrera en el cielo noctuno del Mayab.

Also, I'm onto the second half of kimiyuki and I was just enjoying the delightfully theatrical earnestness and toku actors. Like "Yayyyy ominous narration! Yay hammered home motifs!" But the actual tragedy is building and it's. It's.

one of my treatment friends who has been solid for a while is always telling me that building a life outside of recovery is what helped her the most and man I sure do hope she's right

Since Im feeling more sickly than usual, I’ll cope by rambling a bit.

Recently I got to think about the first day and how it would overall go when Sunny doesn’t go outside. Im not too sure about the other two days, but I think the first day could go mostly the same, except Kel would have one bad thing after another through the day.

First thing first, there would be his failed attempt at meting again with Sunny, and although he didn’t have his hopes very high, as he himself admits and as we can notice by his awkward and unsure way of talking through the door, Im sure this would still dampen his mood, and maybe he would blame himself for being inadequate at this task. First failure of the day.

Afterward, he would head towards Hobees to buy a gift for Hero, but without Sunny there to lend him money, then he would be unable to buy it right away. Although this failure isn’t at the same level as the previous one, it would still serve to make Kel’s day a little bit worse. He sure would get irritated at himself and his forgetfulness.

If he wants to get the money, he will have to walk all the way back home, and while he does this, he will notice a commotion in the park. Even if he isn’t in the best mood, I think he would still intervene to help Basil.

And while Sunny’s methods at deescalating fights can be questionable, he does manage to make Aubrey back away and leave. Without Sunny there, nothing would stop her from teaching Kel a lesson until she gets bored of it. I don’t think she would beat him up into a pulp, but surely Kel will be resenting the pain for a while and end up with some bruises, and that’s not even mentioning how he would feel at having a former friend treating him like that! A lost battle and failure number 3.

Once Aubrey has shown Kel his place, she and her gang would leave with a few extra mocks thrown at her former friends, and then Kel would be able to check on Basil.

This whole situation would also make Basil feel worse, feeling guilty at being the cause Kel got hurt, as well as having his anxiety get worse, but Kel would try to reassure him. Kel could try here to look at the positive side of things, at least he saved Basil from being the one beaten, and better him that he’s athletic rather than his weaker friend right?

In either case, he would still offer to accompany him home… and the rest would kinda depend on how Basil would act. If he’s more anxious and guilty, already having caused problems to Kel, maybe he wouldn’t want to tell him about the album, but if he’s really desperate to get it back, then maybe he could ask him for help anyways. I guess it kinda depends of how much Basil wants his album back, but let’s say he does ask Kel for help.

Kel here would promise to get it back like in the other route. Maybe he could see this as a bit of an opportunity he won’t pass. He already failed Sunny today, so at least he could help Basil.

After that, he does what he does, looking for all the hooligans and loosing all the fights because Sunny isn’t there to lend a hand, but Kel would persevere, determined to not fail another friend… but he would still be beaten like 3 times.

But at last he would manage to learn Aubrey is at the church. Seeing though as they’re in the middle of a sermon, he would choose to wait outside, since its Sunny the one that decides to enter. Like this, he would have plenty of time to reflect, maybe about the day, maybe of how lonely he is, waiting outside, etc.

Now this would mean the scene at the church wouldn’t happen, and so Aubrey wouldn’t end up so hurt. While having her former friends antagonize her at her peaceful place sucks a lot, I think this would also be like what would cause her to be so angry that she would decide to throw away the album, thinking all her former friends suck and the memories she has of them belong in the trash.

All of this is to say that, once the sermon is over and she finds Kel outside, while it would anger her, I don’t think it would anger her enough to get rid of the album. She would either dismiss him of chase him away, maybe threaten him with another beating, no matter how much he tries to convince her.

So yet again all of Kel’s efforts have been for nothing. All that’s left to do at the end of the day is to head back to Basil’s house empty-handed. Basil would be disappointed, but I don’t think he would’ve had many hopes to begin with, he would just resign himself that this is yet another thing in his life that doesn’t turn out like he wished, like many other aspects. Kel would try to tell him he’s going to try again tomorrow, but Basil would tell him that is not necessary, that he has already done enough. Basil believes he has already caused Kel enough trouble and he should stop bothering him, while Kel believes that Basils says this because he thinks he’s incompetent. He may or may not stay for dinner, or maybe he would prefer to get this day over quick.

And so, in this day, Kel would have failed at everything he set out to do and would end up feeling like his efforts are pointless and he’s unable to help his friends.

With this, then its no wonder he doesn’t knock the second day!

Now, what I wanted to get at with all of this, is that although it could seem that Sunny’s presence has little relevance, both from the player’s perspective (seeing as its the other characters who mostly drive the scenes while Sunny simply stands in silence) and from Sunny’s own perspective of himself (feeling like, weak-willed as he is, he can’t do anything to change the current situation), when you think about it, his presence or absence do affect the lives of his friends, even now after he’s been away so long.

So then…

Sunny goes outside: kel has a good day, aubrey has a bad day and basil has a bad day.

Sunny stays inside: kel ahs a bad day, aubrey has a normal day and basil has a bad day.

Conclusion: being basil is living in a constant state of pain and suffering. Thats why Im writing a sick fic in my mind about him if I feel too sick to fall asleep next.

Speaking of Sunny, its also worth noting how Kel and Aubrey are opposites regarding his hopes and fears about seeing what has become of his friends in this time they have spent apart.

Aubrey would embody all of Sunny’s fears: she has become someone unrecognizable from the person he knew, she has long stopped considering him a friend or like he matters in her life, she mocks him over his shut-in status and she now has new untraumatized friends who are normal and not a walking mess like he is.

Kel then would be a reassurance for Sunny. Although he has his own life, he still has a place in it for Sunny, he has matured but remains being the friend Sunny remembers and he treats him in a familiar way.

And I dont remember what more I wanted to get at… but nothing really, this are just a couple of loose thoughts.

YES!!! okay. so. went slightly insane drawing this. SO I DREW LITTLE PERCY AND HE LOOKS SILLY!!!! but colouring was Not Happening (couldnt make it look like him)

SO THEN I WAS LIKE I'll do a silly diggory and percy talking about horses because that one was a smaller doodle

AND THEN i was like. what if I. turn them Into Horses. and then diggory graves became a pony

heyo i love your kinich drawing its really great but please dont forget that the natlan characters are mesoamericans and theyre still very much alive today. kinich is mayan and mayan features are distinctivly different from african features. thank you- a mayab from yucatan

Anyway- thanks for the clarification anon ^^ I dont know much about Mayan cultures and people so ill probably wrap that up as a rough sketch and do my next kinich art after i go through proper references lmao Well wishes- to yucatan <3
