The movies Maurice (1987) and Impromptu (1991) rewrote my brain chemistry permanently. It's like it’s been revealed to me yesterday that the world is round, while I have been living in the belief that it’s flat. Hugh Grant's looks from the late 80s to early 90s are indescribable. His eyes show such emotion in Maurice that every time I see him I have to sit up and look around the room for a second. I feel overjoyed like Rosie Dunne, who has finally been reunited with Alex Stewart after many years. Hugh Grant from the late 80s if you can hear me then give me a sign and come to me in a dream, I don’t know if I want to be with you or become your doppelganger.

Maurice Cullen - The Bird Shop, St. Lawrence Street (ca. 1920)

Born in Newfoundland in 1866 and raised in Montreal, Cullen began his artistic career as a sculptor here in Canada before moving to Paris to study at the prestigious École des Beaux-Arts at the young age of 22. While there, he met artists from across Europe and North America and was exposed to the full breadth of 19th century French art – including the revolutionary style and techniques of the Impressionists. Inspired by these works, Cullen abandoned sculpture and took up landscape painting, eventually exhibiting his works at the Paris Salon in 1894. Shortly thereafter, Cullen returned to Canada and brought the Impressionists’ style of painting to the Canadian wilderness and the gritty cityscape of his new home, Montreal. Using a darker colour pallet than his French counterparts, Cullen became an expert at capturing snowy landscapes and the rosy, semi-haze of twilight – which can be seen in The Bird Shop, St. Lawrence Street. The piece shows the snow-covered St. Lawrence Street at dusk. In the foreground, a horse-drawn sleigh is pulled up a hill in front of a row of snow-covered shops. The sky is a gauzy, silvery grey with soft snowflakes blanketing several darkened figures hurriedly going about their evening. In contrast to the shadowy street, the shop windows are aglow with warm yellows and shimmering greens. Looking closely, the lights inside each shop seem to twinkle in the growing dusk, seemingly inviting viewers in for a warm drink. The bird shop depicted in this work was located on the east side of St. Lawrence Street, south of Sherbrooke Street and just above Ontario Street until its demolition in the early 1980s. While the bird shop may be gone, something about the twinkling lights and hurried snowfall walks feels familiar, even today. (source)

Husk can be Cogsworth.

Either Alastor or Rosie can be Mrs. Potts.

If Alastor is Mrs. Potts, then Niffty can be his Chip (because she’s smol & fierce & they have a cute dynamic, NOT BECAUSE NIFFTY’S A CHILD!!!).

If Rosie is Mrs. Potts, you can take any of the cannibal kids & make them her Chip.

Babette/Plumette/Fifi/whoever the feather duster is can be scrapped since, let’s be honest, Lumiere & Cogsworth are the OTP.

Either Alastor or Sera can be The Enchantress.

Either Lucifer or Lute can be Belle.

If Lucifer is Belle, then Lilith can be Gaston (with Emily as a LeFou who originally worships her, then slowly realizes she’s kind of the worst & defects to help the lovers).

If Lute is Belle, then Sir Pentious can be Gaston with his Egg Bois as an army of LeFous (ok, this one isn’t properly thought out because Pentious & Lute have nothing going on, so feel free to swap Pentious with someone else).

If Lucifer is Belle, then Charlie can fulfill the same role as Maurice by getting lost in Hell & being taken prisoner by Sinner!Adam for trespassing, leading to Lucifer trading himself for her freedom.

If Lute is Belle, then Vaggie can fulfill the same role as Maurice by getting lost in Hell & being taken prisoner by Sinner!Adam for trespassing, leading to Lute trading her freedom for Vaggie’s.

Ooh, and Velvette can be the wardrobe since she’s the fashion icon of Hell!

Anyway the story

It takes place in hell and everyone is still there form. As the story goes The once was a Belovent King Lucifer who loved His wife Lilith and Daughter Charlie. However he was very depressed from his own past. Lillith finally had enough so she Left and took there 3 year old daughter away from her father.

This Devastated the King and he became very bitter about the world. He saw them as nothing but lonesome sinners. Then one day an old beggar came to the castle asking for shelter from the yearly extermination. She offered him a single red rose. Repulsed at her haggard appearance Lucifer sneered the gift and turned the old sinner away. However she warned him not to be fooled by appearances. For beauty is found within. When he dismissed her again The old woman's outward appearance melted to reveal Lilith.

She had become horrified of what her ex had become she told him he has to move on from her even if she has to force him. Lucifer begged for forgiveness but it was too late. For the ex queen saw he had no love in his heart. As punishment she Transformed him into the Devil that mankind feared. She also placed a curse on those that were the castle that night. Before disappearing she told Lucifer " You will remain a devil for all eternity however if you learn to love again and earn their love in return before the last petal falls. The spell will be broken. If not you will remain a beast for all eternity " with that she disappeared.

Many years passed and the king lost all hope. For who could ever love The Devil himself

What's next?

Well, I have to make the bracket itself. As you can see, there's a bit more cats than I was intending to have, which means that certain polls in round 1 will have more than just two options. I can already tell you that a lot of the cats from the same fandoms are going to be eliminated in round one. That's why I kept them in. I'm planning on making up the first round match ups based heavily on the similarities between cats and the fandoms they're from. ALSO as you've probably noticed, some cats come in a bundle. That's because they're a family. I'm not doing this to Kitty Softpaws and Puss (at least YET), because even though they also get married in the end, there's a huge gap in their submission numbers. If you're wondering, how big, you may want to know that up to Tigger from Winnie the Pooh (that is, almost the entire first pic) are the cats that got 2+ submissions, in their order of popularity.

Many people are familiar with the stories of Ashkenazi Jewish mass migration to the United States, seeking refuge from pogroms, economic hardship, and drafts into the czar’s army. What is less well known is the story of extensive migration from the same Eastern European shtetls to the plains of Argentina.

That story begins on the seventeenth of Av in 5649, when 824 Russian Jews landed in Buenos Aires, eager to start a new life together free from the constant threat of violence they’d lived with in the pale of settlement. They had been given a fabulous vision of the wonders of life in the Argentine countryside by the Argentine immigration bureau in Paris. The reality proved rather less rosy, but the new arrivals were determined. Since the entire Jewish population of Argentina had been under 2000 persons at the time of their arrival, that initial group of 824 was a significant increase to the nation’s Jewish community.

Denied their first homesteading location when the landowner they’d purchased it from decided he could get a better price, and finding the second property they were promised utterly lacking in any of the housing or farm goods they’d been told it would have, the settlers reached out to the French Jewish railroad magnate and philanthropist Baron Maurice Moshe Hirsch for financial aid for their settlement.

Hirsch was not only happy to assist, he thought the idea of Russian Jewish immigration to Argentina was brilliant and created an expansive plan to fund Jewish emigrants seeking to establish new lives in agricultural communes in the Argentine grasslands. To this end, Hirsch established the Jewish Colonization Agency, which funded land purchases and the costs of emigration and farming equipment for Russian Jews seeking to follow in the footsteps of that initial group of 824 settlers. Within 30 years, the Jewish population of Argentina had swollen from under 2000 to over 150000.

The initial group named their farming settlement Moïsesville in honor of the Baron. The cooperative structure of the Jewish settlements, who pooled resources for purchases of seeds and farm equipment, made them resilient in the face of the challenges of rural living. They learned from the surrounding gentile farmers and ranchers, adopting to the gaucho lifestyle but with distinctly Jewish touches. It is this legacy of successful rural agricultural communities that differentiated Jewish immigration to Argentina from Jewish migration elsewhere in the Americas.

The success of Jewish settlement in the hinterlands also swelled the urban Jewish population, and Buenos Aires soon became a major hub of global Jewish life and literature, with three separate Yiddish language daily newspapers, numerous Yiddish publishers, and an active Yiddish theatrical scene. In addition to the large influx of Ashkenazim, Sephardi Jews from Morocco and the Ottoman Empire also came in large numbers, which meant that in addition to Yiddish a visitor to a synagogue in Buenos Aires in the late 5600s might also hear Haketia, Ladino, or Judeo-Arabic. Over time, the children and grandchildren of these immigrants became primarily Spanish speakers. Argentina now has the largest Jewish population in South America and the seventh largest in the world, but is no larger now than it was a hundred years ago and is approximately half the size of the Argentine Jewish population’s peak. For the most part, the Jewish gauchos are a thing of nostalgic memory rather than a contemporary reality, but the migration they spearheaded has grown into a community with deep roots in Argentine soil.
