Ginger had been originally published in the legendary magazine Héroïc-Albums between 1953 and 1956. After the demise of Héroïc-Albums Jidéhem moved on to Spirou where he worked with Franquin, gave his name to Gaston's nemesis, De Mesmaeker, illustrated a column on cars that eventually led to the creation of his best-known character Sophie.

In the '70s Spirou reprinted Ginger's original adventures as add-ons to the mag, which led to a short-lived rebirth of the series.
