Erzsébet, Prince of Dusk
Tumblr media
BY POPULAR DEMAND lolol Erzsy is first
It first depends on who are you are? Are you a courtier, a Prince, one who chooses to delve in politics and purple blooded curses who would meet the enigmatic Prince of Dusk, or are you one who chooses to dance along the tiles of rooftops than a waltz who would glimpse the golden eyed shadow against a night sky? Courtly intrigue on the one hand, as the 77 Princes are wont to do, and her name being an irrefutable ties with Syndicate houses which would make for a strong but infamous ally. Or the mysterious if roguish thief in leathers who may be friend and/or rival to you, a legend in flesh, if only known of in whispers --- Or perhaps you're lucky enough to see both sides to this coin.
Camy "Rosa" Rose
(As much as I love it I can't keep using that one comm of Camy, sorry Camy)
The neon lights, the dancing bodies, the pounding beat of a rock anthem all combined with the smell of smoke, sweat, and alcohol. With the silver-haired lead singers eyes on you, and you alone. Backstage and parties aren't all there is to the artist known as Rosa's life but it's one she's happy to have you be a part of. Or so it seems. Sex, drugs, and rock n' roll is the life, right? But do you only want to be a groupie for this burgeoning band, or do you want more from the fun-loving, easy-going rockstar in the making? When she sings when she finds you in the crowd, does the audience melt away to her like it does to you? Or is some long lost hurt of hers getting in the way of that? Before getting too close to Camy, you might realize why they say every Rose has its thorns. Also you might not need to defeat 7 evil exes but one evil ex named Seven

Nearly two hundred years of perfection and poise has culminated into the elf before you; pay every mind to the silver scales along her skin, and ignore the rest if you please. Her lineage is what is important to her, the ancestry she and she alone can wield. She carries the ferocity and fierceness of frost in her facade and the weight of winter in her blood. And she is your companion on this adventure. Whether you indulge in her mithril-like hold on her power and emotions, or seek to reveal the tempest (and dragon) within is up to you! With her icy, perfect, demeanor she may not bother with such a dalliance, but perhaps there is a way to melt away the ice around her heart.
Naressa and Matyas under the cut!
Naressa
Tumblr media
Run.
Not that it will save you. Not that it could ever save you. She is as inevitable as death and lo, it comes for you.
Or maybe not this time; for despite the darkness of her eyes and raven-like hair, she is not death, not today. Not now, at least. She is your companion and perhaps a blade to wield should her priorities align with you. Or perhaps you can see that it is not a void, but she is instead devoid of something and now seeks to fill it, to discover what it is she's lost, and through that is able to find some measure of herself -- and you.
Will death take you, or does death become you as her partner? Should you even take such a risk?

A sunny day and a strange hat, this traveler is only by for a short time. A traveling academic, he says he is, and for all his equipment and the book he scribbles in, it is easy to believe he is what he says. Or perhaps it is so easy because of his glittering charm?
Or that hint of a Zarkanian accent?
Zarkanian academics mean their mages: their devil-loving destroyers, who use the very magic of hell to warp reality into the blood-cursed Princes cruel design. But nothing about the man belies such an origin. Perhaps he is what he says, and perhaps -- while he is in town -- you can share nights and stories in equal measure. Or perhaps you can glimpse at the weariness, the loneliness of this hermit;
or how he is working on something far greater and far more deadly than any of his countrymen and their magic could dream of.

Saturday 1 August 1998 - Hot day in Budapest - ride on the Földalatti - Chain Bridge - Buda Castle - What is so special about Pillangó utca - drinking a Dréher along to Romany music
Saturday 1 August 1998
Guten Morgen!  Jó reggelt!  Dobré ráno!
Twenty years ago today, I do something quite unusual.  I visit a new country in its physical form, and visit another new country through the radio airwaves.  And this is actually possible.  How and where?  More will be told in a bit.  Here is the overview - wake up, have a shower (40 ATS fee with towel), have breakfast - take the tram line 51 to Westbahnhof - In the rail pass, write 01 on top and 08 on the bottom - Board the first class train to Budapest, leave about 10 AM - About 11:30 AM cross from Nickelsdorf (Austria) to Hegyeshalom (Hungary), get passport stamp - 1:30 PM At Budapest Keleti Pályaudvar, board bus to youth hostel - Check in to hostel, walk to the "Ferenciek Tere" metro station.  Take M-3 to Déak Ferenc Tér - take M-1 "Földalatti" to Hösök Tere (Heroes Square) and admire the pillars and Angel Gabriel statue - take M-1 to Mexikói Út, eat something unusual at Burger King then back to Vörösmarty tér, buy Hungarian CDS at record shop near the Vigadó, and buy a funny souvenir T-Shirt - Walk along the Lánchid (chain bridge) across the Danube from Pest to Buda, take funicular to Buda Castle - Observe the castle and eastward view across the Danube, even see Parliament, pass by St Matyas church - take shuttle bus to Moszkva Tér and M-2 to Déli Pályaudvar, have sandwich and soft drink - take M-2 to Batthyáni tér, ride HÉV suburban train to Szépvölgyi út and back. - take M-2 to Pillangó utca, sun was starting to set, back to Vörösmarty tér - Chicken dinner at Vigadó and a Dréher beer, and Romani music including xylophone and violin - Take M-1 and M-3 back to Ferenciek Tere, walk to hostel, try to go to sleep in hostel dorm room. And that was all for that Saturday.  But here is the more comprehensive story, feel free to read along.
Saturday 1st August 1998 it was declared official on many Austrian radio stations - the German grammar and punctuation reform had taken effect.  And to think I was in Austria at that time too.  I woke up about 7:30 AM, went to have a shower.  To date, the only time I ever had to pay in a hotel to take a shower, was at Hotel Rustler. ?? It was not too bad, just 40 ATS for the key to the shower room and a towel.  I had my toiletries with me.  After I gave the key back, I was dressed for breakfast.  Breakfast was included in the hotel stay.  They had my favorites, namely breadrolls, butter, jams, coffee with milk, and deli meats.  I remember distinctly in the breakfast room, that someone asked in German if they were allowed to smoke.  The owner said please don't.  ???????
About 8:30 AM it was time to head to Westbahnhof, but my train to Budapest would not leave until at least 10 AM.  I took the tram line 51 to Westbahnhof, and I thought to take the U-6 a little ways up towards Michelbeuern AKH and back, just to kill time.  Otherwise I would get on a train that I would have to transfer anyway.  The train I was meant to take, it was air conditioned, had nice six-person compartments and restaurant car between first and second class.  Before boarding the train, I made sure to mark the next free spaces with 01 on top and 08 on the bottom, leaving three more space pairs. ??
The train left at 10 AM, and would make the following stops Bruck an der Leitha Nickelsdorf (border) Hegyeshalom (border) Györ Tatabanya Budapest Keleti Pályaudvar and on to Szeged, Novi Sad and Subotica in the Vojvodina region of Serbia and finally in Belgrade.
I listened to some Vienna radio stations while the train was going through the Schwechat airport area.  One song I heard was "Alles wird sich ändern" by the band Echt.  The only other time I heard it on the radio was 8th September 2000 while in Stuttgart.  FM4 was off the air as it was only an evening / nighttime channel, it was replaced by Blue Danube Radio until the switch at 6 PM.  The last I heard on that station was Paul Young's 1983 hit "Wherever I lay my hat" cover version of Marvin Gaye, then Blue Danube mentioned the border crossing wait time, and for most of the day I heard almost only Hungarian and some slavic language.
The train arrived at Nickelsdorf about 11:30 AM to check for passports.  ????????????  I received an exit stamp for Nickelsdorf, the usual Schengen stamp.  About 15 minutes later the train arrived in Hegyeshalom on the Hungarian side.  The ÖBB train locomotive was replaced by a MÁV locomotive (blue and yellow), and Hungarian customs came to my compartment to check and stamp passports.  The stamp I received was red and green.  After leaving Györ, there was a representative of the Hostelling International Hungarian chapter.  She gave information on a program that the hostels participate in, to shuttle guests to hostels in Budapest near Keleti Pályaudvar, all I would need to do, was to find the shuttle bus, and ride along.
As for radio, between Györ and Tatabanya, I was able to pick up ?????? Slovak radio stations, cabaret comedy ??and music, as if I were actually in Slovakia and not Hungary.  One song I remember was "Vsetko Je Inak" by Vidiek.  Most of the other Slovak material was two-person standup comedy.
The train arrived about 1:30 PM and I found the shuttle, sort of east of the station.  There must have been at least twelve people on that bus, as the Ford Transit non-turbo diesel engine was struggling to accelerate.  I did find a hostel that was fairly central, the Apáczai Csere János High School and Dormitory, on Papnövelde u. 4, open for non-students during the summer.  I had an ??eight person dorm room and access to the showers and bathroom, but no breakfast was offered.  Cafes were far cheaper than in Vienna or even Prague, so finding a place for an affordable breakfast would not be a concern.
And now would be the first time that whatever I learned for Hungarian, would be put to the test.  My only task at the time, would be to buy a day pass for the metro.  And I had to remember, despite Hungary being next to Austria, few people in Budapest spoke German or English.  When I made it to Ferenciek Tere on the M-3 line, I went to the ticket office, and tried to say "napijegy", with a horrible mispronunciation of the "gy", and I had to repeat and even point to the ticket.  The lady gave me the correct pronunciation and also a day pass for 350 Forint, punched for 1st August.  In Budapest the day passes are valid up to 12:01 AM.
The Budapest metros at the time, except M-1, were similar to those in Moscow, St Petersburg, and Prague.  I took the M-3 to Déak Ferenc Tér and transferred to the M-1 "Földalatti" which was in operation as early as when the Habsburg Empire still ruled Austria and Hungary.  It follows half its route in a shallow tunnel under Andrássy út.  I took the M-1 to Hösök Tere, and admired the columns, there must have been about twelve, and there is a statue of the Archangel Gabriel.
I was getting hungry so I went farther northeast to Mexikói út, past the Széchenyi Fürdö (municipal swimming pool open year round).  There was a Burger King and I ordered something a bit different than the usual beef burgers.  They had, similar to the McDonalds McPink, the "Piggy Burger", basically a pork patty served with the usual condiments and veggies and so on.   After that, I took the entire M-1 line to Vörösmarty Tér almost on the east bank of the Danube.  I wanted to buy ???????? CDs in Hungarian, so there was a music store close to the Cafe Gerbaud.  I bought a couple, namely "Majom tango" by Quimby, "Rossz Penz" by Gjon Delhusa, "Ugyánaz a tuz" by Manhattan, and a cassette by rap duo Animal Cannibals, formed by Qka MC and Ricsipí, "Kés, villa" (knife, fork) - they started in 1989 and as far as I was able to find out, they still are together.  No I did not misuse my phrasebook in the record store à la Monty Python ?? "Eye wheel not bye zeese record, eet eese skretched!"
Around the corner there was a shop that sold typical Hungarian souvenirs, for example cheap "puszta" and a funny shirt with some guy with a few liter mugs of beer, a justifiably wide grin, and the word "BUDAPEST Hungary" on it.  I bought one in yellow, thought my photo has only the black version as visible.
After buying my t-shirt, I thought it was a good time to walk along the Danube and cross the Széchenyi  Lánchíd (chain bridge).  The Danube also has active tram tracks on both banks for an unforgettable ride.
On the other side of the bridge, namely the Buda, was a funicular.  To ride the funicular up to the castle, required a 100 Forint ticket, and the napijegy was not valid.  At the top was the castle and part of the Habsburg-era old town.  The castle itself was built more or less on Greco-roman styling, with corinthian-order columns.  Walking northeast towards the Szent Matyas church along Szent György utca, there had to be twenty of the Hungarian flags flying, the ones with red, white and green.  Szent Matyas was a quarter mile farther along Disz Tér and Tárnok St.  Szent Matyas has its bell tower at the "south" corner closest to the street and the shorter parts are to the other directions, giving it its distinctive design.  The Fishermans Bastion overlooking the Pest part of the city across the Danube, is accessible by Szentháromság tér.
After that, I took the shuttle bus to Széll Kálmán tér, known in 1998 still as Moskva Tér.  I took the M-2 to Déli Pályaudvar, the south long-distance rail station.  I was hungry and bought a pepperoni, salami and cheese sandwich for about 200 Forint and a can of 7 Up.  That would be enough until supper.  I think it was about 5:30 PM or so.  I wanted to take a ride on the HÉV suburban rail system, particularly the current route "H5", so I had to go to Batthyáni tér station and transfer.
To get to the HÉV station, I had to go up one escalator level, and cross a corridor to the tracks for the HÉV, there were two or three as I remember.  The trains looked like they were from the mid 1970s to early 1980s, and looked more like the trams and Földalatti than the M-2 and M-3 Metro trains.  After the HÉV train  left Batthyáni tér, there was only one other underground station, Margit Híd Budai hídfö.  The conductor checked everyone's train tickets and also my napijegy.  I alighted at Szépvölgyi út and took a photo of the departing HÉV train.  Waiting for the return train, I think it was fifteen minutes, and I think it was 6:15 PM when I returned to Batthyáni tér.  The HÉV station is in a shallow tunnel compared to the metro.  Taking the escalator to the street, I boarded a tram line 19 and rode only to Halász utca along the Buda side of the Danube, and had an excellent view of the Hungarian parliament building.  The parliament building is very distinctive, one of the most recognizable buildings on the Pest side of the Danube.  In 1998 there were still many Trabants and Wartburgs to be seen, many in either rice pudding color or baby blue, same as prior to the reunification of Germany of October 1990.
Since tomorrow (Sunday 2nd August 1998) the train would not leave until 12:30 PM, I had to find a place to put my clothes bag, so I had to ride the M2 from Batthyány tér to Keleti pályaudvar and see if there was a left-luggage or locker room.  The left luggage was attended, so I could go place my bag there for about 600 Forint until it was time for the return train.  It was starting to get dark, around 8 PM, and there was one last place I wanted to see, and that was Pillangó utca.  In Hungary, Poland, and also Serbia, in the summer, the sun rises and sets earlier, significantly earlier, than it does in Spain.  I think by about two hours.  In Spain for example, it can be dark until 7:30 AM and in Hungary the sun can be up as early as 5:15 AM.  If somehow the European Union discontinues the Daylight Savings Time scheme, the sun will rise as early as 4:15 AM in some locations of the Central European +1h time zone.
Pillangó utca is the first surface metro station after the Puskás Ferenc Stadion, renamed from "Nepstadion".  This is one of the few stations on the Budapest metro that have side platforms.  You can even see the third rails on the platform edge side.  Even on the new M-4 that was opened in 2014, the third rails are on the platform side that cannot usually be seen.  I crossed the pedestrian bridge to the westbound platform and could see the sun set.  The street lights went on and it was time to head back to Déak Tér and Vörösmarty tér to find somewhere to eat.
I found an inviting place close to Vörösmarty tér and where I bought my t-shirt.  This was the Vigadó.  They had live music, particularly from a ?????? Romani band that had a xylophone and violin, for a uniquely Hungarian dining experience.  I had a Dreher beer to start, and then chicken with paprika with vegetables.  I must have stayed there for over an hour because the music was very good.  I listened to the radio only when the band went on break.
After supper, I took the M-1 to Déak Tér and the one stop by M-3 to Ferenciek Tere to walk back to the hostel.  While trying to go to sleep, I listened to the radio, even hearing the classic "Ringo" by Lorne Greene. "i knew there was still a spark of good, in Ringo ??Riiingo - Ringo??"
My roommates that night seemed to have more energy than myself, were a bit noisy until around 1 AM, made it difficult to sleep but I managed to sleep all the same.
That is almost all for Saturday the 1st August 1998.  There was a little more I wanted to see of Budapest before going back to München, I was also able to find an excellent place for breakfast.  I got to see the most peppers in my life on display.  And then at 12:30 PM I had to go back to München.  So there is more fun for tomorrow.  Köszönom!  D'akujem!  And Gute Nacht!

A/N: Written for my friend, @birdie-girl - Please heed the warnings. I don’t want anyone to be inadvertently triggered by the content below. Part of my Growing Pains Series. Please enjoy and let me know what you think. Thanks for reading!
You force yourself to take a deep breath as you stand outside of your boss’ office. Smoothing your hands down the fabric of your pink blouse and black pleated skirt, you desperately hope that the man is in a good mood for once. Squaring your shoulders, you open his door and then somehow manage to trip over your own two feet.
“You’re late.” He growls without looking up from his computer as you practically tumble inside the room holding a large stack of files.
“I know, Mr. Barber, and I’m so sorry. There was an issue with the printers this morning and it took poor Reggie from I.T. forever to fix it. But I’ve got the documents you requested so -”
“Did I say I wanted to hear your excuses?”
“Um…” Your teeth begin to gently worry your lower lip. “No, sir, you did not.”
“Then why are you still talking?”
That shuts you up real fast. What an ass.
You stand there in the middle of his office, unsure of what to do as you try to keep your knees from wobbling.
“Jesus Christ. Don’t just stand there, Y/N. Have a seat already.” Not needing to be told twice, you plop yourself into one of his cushy office chairs.
Mr. Barber, the CEO of Spotlight Enterprises, was the most handsome and intimidating male specimen that you’d ever laid eyes on. At just over six feet tall, the man was nothing but pure muscle. Couple that with his thick, tawny locks, his perfectly trimmed beard, and his intoxicating blue eyes…
Let’s just say that everyone you worked with was either terrified of him, attracted to him, or both.
And you fell solidly into the last category.
After what seems like forever, he finally manages to pull himself away from his screen.
“Do you have everything I requested?” He asks, motioning for you to hand over the folders you were holding.
“Yes, sir.” At least you hoped you did.
“Can’t blame me for having my doubts.” He mutters as he thumbs through various pages. “You’re far from the best assistant I’ve ever had. Even on your good days.”
You bow your head as you feel shame begin to creep over your features.
That wasn’t fair. It wasn’t that you were bad at your job, it was that the man you worked for had a well-known reputation for being difficult.
“I can go if you’d like a few quiet moments to review. I know how it feels to try to work with someone constantly looking over your shoulder.” You offer up a weak laugh.
“Stay where you are. And you need someone looking over your shoulder because you are apparently incapable of functioning on your own.” He looks up at you with those gorgeous blue eyes and shakes his head.
Over the next few minutes, you watch as he grows increasingly frustrated. His brow furrows, his jaw clenches.
“You know, Y/N, sometimes I’m convinced you like making my life difficult.”
“What? I - no! I gave you what you asked for, sir.” You try and fail to keep the panic out of your voice.
“No.” He snarls as he tosses three files into the waste bin. “No, you silly girl, you did not. I asked you for the Watson, Duncan, and Markish accounts and what did you bring me?” He picks up the garbage can. “You brought me the Walker, Dresden, and Matya files.”
“That - that can’t be right!” You stammer. “I brought you all of the accounts you requested in your email. I know I did!”
Mr. Barber just shakes his head. “You know how much I hate when people waste my time, especially you.” He mutters. “Get up and go lock my door. I’m going to show you what happens to dumb little girls who can't seem to do their job.”
You feel hot tears prick the backs of your eyes at his words.
“Mr. Barber, sir, I’ll go reprint everything right now. It’ll take me ten minutes tops -”
“Go. Lock. My. Door.” He grunts. “Show me you can do as you’re told.”
Your mouth is suddenly dry as you move to comply. Once the lock is in place, you step back and await further instructions.
“Remove your skirt, Y/N.” Your boss purrs, his deep voice pitched to arouse. “Slowly.”
Once again, you do as he asks, revealing the lacy, jade green panties he’d purchased for you.
And had ordered you to wear. Today.
Scooting his chair back, he pats his lap. “C’mon, sweetheart.”
Keeping your head down, you walk over to him and place yourself over his knee. You wince as he caresses your curvy backside before he yanks down your panties and delivers a hard smack, making you yelp.
“You precious little idiot.” He hisses before landing another blow. “Because of you, I have to cancel my 3:00pm meeting so I don’t show up looking unprepared.” Mr. Barber slaps your ass again. “And it’s all your fault.”
Each word is peppered by a rough smack to your ass.
“You can't do anything right, can you?" Another smack. "Swear to God, you’re so lucky you’re pretty, baby. Because I’m starting to think that you are as dumb as they come. I can’t even begin to fathom how you’ve gotten this far.”
You can’t help the tears as they begin to fall. You weren’t dumb, damn it. You had graduated at the top of your class!
“You had better take your punishment like the grown woman you pretend to be, my dumb baby girl, before I decide to make things worse.”
The tears are falling harder now.
You didn’t like this game anymore.
“Pretty sure I’ve met bricks smarter than you.” He growls, as the blows cease and his big hand moves to massage your vulnerable pussy, prompting you to try to wiggle off his hard lap. “And yet here we are. At least you know how to suck dick. Might be the only thing you’re good at.”
You feel your body begin to shake.
“Should make you get on your hands and knees and beg to keep your job."
And that’s when you break.
“Tullip.” You whisper, your voice coming out rough as you begin to hyperventilate. “Tullip.”
Everything stops immediately, and your body is quickly maneuvered so that you’re sitting upright. Try as you might, you can’t catch your breath. Your body keeps shaking, whimpering, and wheezing without your permission.
“Hey, Y/N, baby.” Andy coos as he rubs your back. “Baby, calm down. It’s over. We’re done.”
You try, but you can’t.
“Okay, Okay. Okay.” Your boyfriend takes your hand and presses it against his chest, letting you feel his heartbeat. “Everything’s alright, baby girl. You’re alright. I just need you to slow down your breathing. Breathe with me, Y/N. In through your nose, out through your mouth.”
You struggle to do as he asks, but eventually, you manage.
“Good girl. Again. In through your nose - there we go - and out through your mouth.”
Andy makes you repeat this exercise several more times as he gently rests his forehead against your own.
“That’s it.” He murmurs when your breathing finally begins to even out. “You’re safe, you hear me? Can you please acknowledge that you hear my voice?”
“I - I hear you.” You manage between the occasional hiccup. “I’m okay. I’m safe. I’m not stupid. Or dumb. Or an idiot. Or a brick. I’m not. I’m not!” You find yourself screaming the last part.
Your father used to call you those things. And no matter how many times you asked him to stop, he never did. But your man stopped. You remind yourself. He stopped when you asked.
“Of course you’re not, my beautiful girl.” Andy tells you as he rocks you back and forth. “You’re the smartest, sweetest, sassiest little thing I’ve ever met.” Sliding his chair over to his mini-fridge, your boyfriend pulls out two cold bottles of water. He then opens one and gently holds it to your lips.
“Small, slow sips, my love.” You let out a small sigh as he rests the other unopened bottle at the base of your neck. “There we go.”
“I’m sorry.” You whisper after you drain every last drop.
“Stop it, Y/N. You have nothing to be sorry for - that’s why we have that word. Keep holding this to the back of your neck. It’ll help cool you down.” He says as he picks you up and carries you out of his office and into the living room.
Once you’re both safely snuggled up on the couch, you allow yourself to bury your face in your Big Man’s chest before realizing that you needed more.
“Skin.” You tug at his shirt. “I need to feel you please.”
Nodding, Andy makes quick work of undoing the buttons and removing his dress shirt. And then he removes yours, along with your bra, leaving you naked and him still in his slacks. But you didn’t care, so long as you were able to touch him. Feel him.
“Better?”
“Uh huh.” He takes the still cold bottle of water and presses it to your chest.
“You ready to talk to me yet, little love? What happened? Did I spank you too hard?”
Andy sincerely doubted that that was the issue.
“No. It was - it was the words. My father used to say some of those things to me. And to hear you call me a “dumb baby girl” instead of your “good girl” while we were playing rough…it…it threw me a bit.”
“I’m so sorry, baby. You know I don’t really think of you that way. And I didn’t realize about your Dad either…”
And then a thought strikes him.
“He, uh, he didn’t ever tell you to beg…did he?”
Andy’s blood begins to boil when he feels you tense against him. Fuck! Yes, you two had been playing a game earlier, but he hated that the words he'd used had set you off like this.
“He did. Once.” You whisper. “We had a fight when I was in my twenties while I was living with him and my mom. Later when I tried to approach him and talk things out, he told me that the only way I could continue to stay there was if I begged him. My mom didn't believe me when I told her what happened, and since I’m not built to do that, I left the next day.”
“Shit, Y/N, baby girl…” Unsure of what else to say, he continues to gently stroke his fingers across the soft skin of your belly. “I’m so sorry. ”
You’re both quiet for a moment.
“I’m proud of you for sharing with me. And I’m even more proud that you didn’t let him win like that. You don’t ever need to beg for anyone’s acceptance. Not your father’s, not mine. Swear to God I will never ask you to do that.” Andy begins to sweetly pepper your face with kisses.
“I know you wouldn’t. And I like it when we play rough. It’s just that, um, that scene didn’t work for me the way I thought it would. But I still wanna play sometimes.”
“Okay, and we will. But we’ll just have to talk it through a little more next time. Figure out what words might upset you in real life. Deal?”
“Deal.”
“Now, I’m going to get us a blanket and when I come back, I’ll order us something to eat." He says, just in time for your stomach to rumble. "Do you feel shaky at all? Do you - you know what? Never mind. There’s a Gatorade in the fridge. I’m going to snag it, and you’re going to sip it for me, sweet girl.”
“Okay.” You respond, smiling up at him.
“God, how I love that smile.” He leans down to cup your face for just a second. “You just take it easy and let me take care of you. That’s an order, Missy, from the man who loves you more than anything.” Your Andy Bear winks at you before trotting away.
Well, if you hadn't been in love with the man before, you certainly were now.

Part 1: The peace treaty between the Hungarians and the Turks before the summer of 1462 is another reason why Corvinus stopped the crusade and the money for it was deposited in Hungary.
Some historians, studying the circumstances of 1462, admit the possibility that Matyas Corvinus made a treaty with the Turks before the summer of 1462, which is why the Turks were not waiting for the attack of crusaders, they did not begin to strengthen their borders in 1462, pulling to the fortresses, but gathered only part of their army, went to Wallachia to settle the vassal, please both countries at the time - Hungary and Turkey. There are several reasons for this, in addition to the distrust of Pope Pius II, who suspected the Hungarian in the hypocrisy of collusion with the Turks and questioned him about both the means sent and the reasons for inaction.
Although, as usual, the Turks themselves attributed a huge amount of power to their own numbers, the authors of the 15th century edition of the Corpus Draculianum, Greek, Turkish, Byzantine and other sources, note that the total strength of the Ottoman army at that time was about 110,000-120,000, including all, guards, guards of every fortress, everything. Of this figure approximately 2/3 were ready for mobilization. However, given that it was necessary to mobilize forces in a short period, it is natural that the Turks were able to assemble only 60-70% of these 2/3. Here the authors are interested in the following question: if the Turk knew that he was going against Hungary, Transylvania, Wallachia and others, that is, according to the agreement on the crusade with Pope Pius, this is an extremely rash decision, leading to defeat. To go without gathering maximum strength against the crusaders, to their lands, for the sake of seizing one of the unstable vassals ...in Wallachia?!
Moreover, the Turks never fought with less troops, even with equal numbers they rarely went to battle, more often they fled (read Vavren, Beham, Murad's holy wars, Dukas, Halkocondil). What cannot be said of the Crusaders, for those it was beneath dignity to run away from the battlefield without starting a battle, even if their forces were outnumbered. Here the Turk had to march against a noble number of troops, here Hungary, Transylvania and Wallachia, countries that had to march against the Turk, all with the help and assistance of the Pope and others. And the Turk gathered only a small part of the possible troops and did not go to fortify the borders and fortresses, but to Wallachia, to change the ruler? Suspiciously implausible, because it meant only one thing - defeat.
And another point here does not agree - the goal. Here he was not preparing to defend his borders from a coming campaign, no. Which would have been worth doing. Nor was he fortifying them in preparation for a strike. Not at all . But went with a small, relative to the whole Ottoman army, army, on foreign territory of dubious political stability? What for? To sit his vassal down for a couple of days, who will be immediately removed as soon as the Turks leave Wallachia. After all, the Turkish vassal, in theory, at the time of the actual crusade was unwanted by the Wallachians, Transylvania and Hungary. And here, having collected only a fraction of his troops, the Turk decides to send them for a dubious purpose. After all, Wallachia was not his territory, and he could not and was not going to make it his own. His goal suddenly became not protection from the coming attack of the crusaders, but the desire to settle his vassal, Radu. Very suspicious. As if the Turk already knew perfectly well that the Hungarians and Transylvanian will not be in the campaign, and the campaign itself will not take place. That's why he didn't have to fortify the borders and mobilize the troops, but instead to go to Walachia with a small number of troops (because only one ruler bravely began a crusade in 1462, only one troubled the water). knowing that there will be only Walachians, breaking the head that the army is not all there was no point, and to sit a new challenger easily, if the Hungarians agreed in advance. In this case it all adds up to one picture.
And here's another interesting point, the new Turkish protégé, Radu, was liked by the Hungarians at once, as if warmly expected. And this was even BEFORE the capture of voivode Vlad Draguli Tepes in November, BUT in August. So that the Hungarian king personally began to put pressure in letters to Transylvania (letter of August 15, 1462!), Brasov, forcing it to accept the new, careful, "dear lord Radu" and "keep a firm peace with him" (!, the letter in the article above). However.
After all, if it were not for the suspicious Hungarians' desire to accept the Turkish protege before Corvinus had to join the campaign, given the inconstancy of the Lords, their negative attitude towards Moslems, the new protege could have been immediately removed or killed as soon as the Sultan left Walachia. It would have been a waste of the Sultan's forces on Wallachia. To go for such a shaky goal against Hungary, Transylvania and Wallachia...to put his vassal down for a few days, instead of preparing for a crusader attack and strengthening the borders?
All these actions clearly indicate that the sultan for some reason was well aware that there would not be a crusade, so he did not fear it at all, knowing that only one in Wallachia would oppose him, and in that he was sure that Radu would not drive out, but hospitably received the Hungarians themselves, which made it advisable to replace the lord.
All this once again, not the first, not the second, but once again, indicates that Venice and Pope Pius did not in vain suspect Corvinus of a secret peace treaty with the Turk and tried in vain to find out the real reasons for the arrest of the main leader of the upcoming campaign Draguli. The fact that Giovanni Aymo was sent to Hungary to investigate a secret Hungarian conspiracy with the Turks, at all costs, to reveal the reasons for the arrest of Governor Vlad, as well as, if necessary, to "buy" information about the relationship between Corvinus and the Turkish protégé, Radu, also testifies to the distrust of Corvinus by the Pope himself. And if there is a treaty between Hungary and the Turks, to find out about it.
These behavioral moments of the Turks indicate that before the summer of 1462 they already knew about the true state of affairs and the intentions of Corvinus. But how and how did they go with such confidence with their vassal, as if they knew that Radu would be accepted?
*This article contains excerpts from the 15th-century edition of the Corpus Draculianum collection of sources and excerpts from the authors' comments on the primary sources. _____ Part 2: About how Matyas Corvinus, instead of the crusade, where he swore as a Christian to take part, suddenly had a Turkish protégé at his side, the new ruler in Walachia - Radu.
Letter of August 15, 1462 (note the date, this date before the capture of voivode Dragulja, in November, the date when the voivode Tepes was still waiting for the promised aid and the start of the crusade) , from Cluj-Napoca, vice-commissar Albert of Istenmezeye (secei, de Istenmezeye). In this letter, Vicecomis Matyas of Istenmezeye calls the new ruler a Turk protégé and insists that the rulers of Brasov and Castellan Bran ("castro Terch" Törcsvár) accept the new Turkish ruler, look after him and (!) maintain an indestructible peace with him. Viceromys Matyáš calls the Turkish protégé "the glorious lord Radul, the new voivode" (!) :
Insuper hominibus nostris in quibus poteritis petimus subveniatis.
Addressed to the judges and counselors of Brasov: Sagacibus viris iudici et iuratis ac universis consultantibus in civitate Brassowiensi constitutis et commorantibus, amicis nostris dilectis.
Just to imagine, the letter of February 11, 1462, of the governor Vlad Draguli Tepes, who was waiting for the promised forces in the crusade:
"I ask you to gather all your country, all the men able to fight, both on horseback and on foot, and bring them to our Wallachia, deigning to fight with us yourself. And if Your Majesty does not wish to come personally, please send your entire army to your Transylvanian possessions by St. George's Day (April 23rd), and if Your Majesty does not wish to send her army to our aid, then send whoever you wish, at least the Transylvanian and Secular troops. If Your Majesty wishes to come to our aid, kindly do not delay in replying, but let us honestly know of your intentions. We also ask you not to delay our man who delivered this letter this time, but send him back as soon as possible, for we intend by no means to retreat from what has already been begun and intend to go to the very end. For if the Lord Almighty hears the prayers and groanings of Christians and grants us the opportunity to overcome the pagans and the enemies of the Cross of Christ, this will be the highest honor and benefit to Your Majesty and to Orthodox Christianity; we do not wish to flee from the barbarism of the pagans, but we wish to fight them with all our might. And if, God forbid, it should happen that our little country should disappear, it would not do Your Grace any good, for it would harm the whole Christian world."
On 15 August 1462 Corvinus already urged Brasov to accept a new lord, the Sultan's henchman. Not even bothering to fight the Turks. And in November the governor of Tepes was suddenly taken prisoner on an unbelievable pretext. It turns out that he was not going on any campaign.
After all, the support of Radu guaranteed Matyas Corvinus peace with the Turks, and this is much more convenient and comfortable than a crusade to protect the Christian world. Thus Matyas himself went to make peace with the sultan, after which, after the summer of 1462, he accused Dragoole of trying to make peace with the sultan by means of a forged treaty without a signature and seal. But the forged treaty did not pass for a real treaty even then, Pope Pius did not believe in its authenticity, moreover knowing the zeal of Draguli for the Turks, and for the pope it was not enough to explain that the crusade would not take place, because he had already sent money for the crusade through the Hungarian court, that is, through the hands of Korvin, hands that this money will never leave. And Corvinus had to do something to cover the rest of the Christians who were already on the march, to cover his peace with the Turk, because he was not going to fight, it was not his business, and now, in the fall, he kept Vlad Dracula locked up, the one on whom he had placed his hopes for the coming march. And it was during this period that numerous pamphlets about the rampant cruelty of the undesirable, eager to fight, the crusader Dragoole, suddenly began to spread actively. An interesting coincidence, the dates of pamphlets and manuscripts, with the very first, begin in 1463, and then from year to year are copied.
The letter in question is in the Brasov archives.
Seal: Round, green wax, sealed on the wrap.
Text: Hurmuzaki, Documente ... XV, 1, 58 Nr. 99.
Voevoda Vlad Dragulja himself did not know about Corvinus' betrayal (not the first, but the third (!) plot with new pretenders behind Vlad's back, and not the last), he still hoped that he would keep his word given to all Christians and join with his army. From June (Mehmed was already in Adrianople on July 11) until November (! when already in August Corvinus had long been on good terms with the Turks, as the document shows) he would wait for good news, so that he could continue the campaign, to marry Justina, as had been planned. And only in November 1462 voivod Vlad will meet with Corvinus, but the results of the meeting will be different.
And although the report of the subject Petre Tomasi was accepted at the official level, on 18 April 1463, the Senate asks its new ambassador to Buda, Giovanni Aimo, to investigate the matter at all costs, to reveal the reasons for the arrest of Governor Vlad, and, if necessary, "buy" information about the relationship on the case of Korvin and the Turkish protégé Radu. And if there is a treaty between Hungary and the Turks, to find out.
"Sapientes Consitij et.
Circumspecto et Sapienti Viro Petro Thomasio, Secretario nostro in Hungaria.
Petre! "
"....infestum casum Vaivode olim Valachie, qui adversus Majstatem Vestram, regnumque vestrum tantum facimus perpetrare molitus erat "

In Sickness
Pairing: Spock x reader
Word Count: so many (2680 to be exact)
Warning: Death, dying, serious health conditions, pretty gross health conditions, I think one swear
A/N: Requested by an anon!: “Spock x female reader where they are secretly married...but the team finds out when she gets injured on a mission...” Idk if you can tell but I have watched a TON of grey’s anatomy recently which might be why I spent so much time researching the medical stuff lol. This has absolutely NOT been edited because it’s 3:30 AM and it’s my birthday so I’m going to bed. I will (maybe) edit it later.
Cold was not a word you would have used to describe Spock. The other crew members gossipped about how emotionless he was, but you knew better. You knew where to look. In soft touches in the hallway, meals sent to your lab when you forgot to leave for lunch. No, Spock wasn’t cold. He was the one spot of warmth on the whole damn ship.
When he asked you to marry him, you were over the moon. Literally. The ship had made an emergency stop at Derna after an influenza outbreak. Half the ship was bed-ridden, and you were working yourself to the bone trying to find a cure. Spock found you unconscious at your desk from a fever you’d neglected to mention to anyone, and, after a long, stern lecture he’d asked if you would be his wife.
That was almost two years ago now and it had been the best two years of your life. You didn't even mind keeping it to yourself, because it made everything feel more special - and he more than made up for it when you spent nights together. There wasn't a doubt in your mind that Spock would move heaven and earth for you if you asked, and you knew he would be completely undone if anything happened to you.
That’s what made you hesitate on the shuttle down to the planet’s surface. You absentmindedly played with the ring hanging around your neck as the emergency transport descended to the next unknown planet. Well, not completely unknown. You knew one thing about the planet: the flora was poisonous to humans, which is why you were zipping up your decontamination suit and pulling your mobile lab down the ship’s loading dock. It whirred to life behind you as soon as you were clear, receding back into the ship as it prepared for take off.
This was your choice. You reminded yourself sternly. You told Jim not to beam them up. Not to send anyone down with you. The fewer people exposed the better. You rolled your shoulders and neck, easing some of the tension you could feel building there, and started walking toward the emergency triage station that was already set up.
There was a small boulder that had been outfitted as a desk for you to work on. Samples from the plant that caused all the trouble were already laid out. Your eyes scanned them quickly, looking for anything that signaled danger. There were no thorns, no pollen, no sap - even the colors were subdued. You lifted a flower to smell, expecting a nauseating rotting meat smell like some other carnivorous plants, but even the scent was beautiful.
“He’s arresting,” an ensign called. She was hunched over a man on the ground, another ensign. Matyas. He worked with the chemists. It was his first away mission.
Someone grabbed your elbow roughly. “Are you just going to stand there or are you going to help him?”
“I’m - I’m not a doctor. I’m a microbiologist I don’t-”
“Damn it I can’t find a pulse.” A doctor had joined the ensign and taken over. Going against warnings to avoid touching Matyas, the doctor was alternating compressions and mouth to mouth while an assistant dug through a bag for a hypo. The needle clicked and everyone held their breath but Matyas didn’t move. It almost felt like your heart was picking up the slack for him with the way it was pounding in your chest.
The doctor sighed. “Time of death, 15:02 Federation Standard Time.” The nurse immediately waved a tricorder over the doctor, scanning for any signs of infection.
You made your way over to Matyas, sample collection kit in hand. While the nurse checked the doctor, you checked the ensign for any obvious signs of disease. Despite only being sick for an hour at most, his face had lost all color and his eyes were dark. Even with gloves on, you could feel how brittle his hair had become. You cut off a few strands and dropped them in a sample bag. Next came the blood draw. You expected it to be the easiest part, but the blood came out much thicker than it should have, almost gelatinous. As if he’d been dead for hours and his blood had started clotting. You chanced a look at the doctor, whose worry was written across his face.
“Can I borrow your tricorder for a sec,” you asked. You accepted it gratefully from the nurse and ran it over Matyas. Each result seemed more concerning than the last: “Skin rash, cardiomegaly, ambient temperature, early signs of rigor mortis.”
The doctor grabbed the tricorder from your hands. “That’s not possible.” He scanned the corpse again, yielding the same results. “We scanned him twenty minutes ago and there was no evidence of cardiomegaly. The only symptoms were a rash, fever, and minor heart palpitations and now….”
“And now the scans show he should’ve been dead for hours, not minutes,” you finished. You wanted to comfort the doctor, who seemed to be getting more anxious by the second, but there was nothing you could say when he was sitting in front of the corpse of a man who might have just infected him. You couldn’t say how long the symptoms would take to start showing, because it was impossibly to know when Matyas was infected. You didn’t even know what caused it. It could be the flower or it could be something in the grass or the trees or even in the air. The only piece of good news you could give came from Bones calling to say the quarantine rooms had been set up.
You went straight to work when you were back on the ship, running the blood through every test you could think of and examining every inch of the plant under microscope. It was harder doing it by yourself, but you insisted your team stay away in case there was something poisonous in the plant. Of course, you hadn’t told Spock you were working alone or that you weren’t working in a decontamination suit, but what he didn’t know wouldn’t hurt him. It was quicker without the burden of the suit anyway.
Bones kept you updated on the status of all the patients. Neither the doctor nor the ensign were starting to show signs but Commander Oni, a member of the security team of all people, was complaining about abdominal pain and facial swelling and the leader of the expedition, Lieutenant Mavek, had a severe fever. They were both being monitored closely.
You focused your attention back to your work. Sure they were stable now, but Matyas was stable when you were first called and not 30 minutes later he was dead. You just hoped half an hour was enough time for you to make some kind of headway with a cure.
Every minute that passed was torture. Ten minutes in and you had nothing. You were starting to sweat. From nerves, you told yourself. Not from disease. Fifteen minutes passed and Bones called to tell you Oni had blood in his lower intestine now, and his liver seemed to be shutting down. Twenty minutes. Mavek fell unconscious, heart beating erratically. Thirty minutes. His heart stopped. He was put on bypass. Forty minutes. Oni was experiencing multiple organ failure. 50 minutes. Dead.
You threw everything off your desk in anger. Nothing was adding up. The blood had been poisoned but there was nothing poisonous from the plant. The people in direct contact with Matyas were fine but the people who were nowhere near him are dead and dying and you had no more time to come up with a solution to save Mavek.
You scratched subconsciously at an itch on your arm until you realized your fingertips felt wet. When you looked down all you saw was blood. You could still make out the edges of what looked like the same rash Matyas had among the blood and skin that was hanging off your arm. It appeared necrotic, a symptom none of the others had presented. You poked at it lightly in horror, half expecting your entire arm to fall off, but you felt nothing. Aside from the skin falling off of your arm you felt fine.
Then there was a flash of heat so intense you had to sit down. Your vision was white and it felt like your temperature jumped from 98 to 103 with no warning. Waves of nausea hit you as you reached for the comm but you ended up knocking it to the floor in a daze. You fell to your knees to get it, trying desperately to call in a 911 to Bones. Your throat tightened as your heart sped up. You didn’t know what was anxiety and what was a symptom.
The tile flooring felt much cooler against your knees and arms and your nausea lifted briefly. You reached for the Comm and froze. There. Sitting on top of it. What looked like an insect. You forced yourself to concentrate on it, ignoring the white creeping into the edges of your vision. You fumbled for a sample jar, knocking several over before you managed to grab one large enough for the bug and the Comm.
The insect seemed to sense it’s freedom was being threatened, because it jumped from its perch on the Comm and started running towards the door. You threw yourself at it, clapping the cup down full force against the ground. It scuttled frantically around the cup, stabbing what looked like a small stinger against its plastic prison. You slipped the lid underneath and sealed the cup before making your way back to the desk. You grabbed your Comm on the way, dialing Bones as you picked up a pair of scissors.
“Please tell me you’ve got something.” You could tell he was tired.
You stabbed a small hole in the top of the jar for air. “Insect sting. Best guess is it’s essentially Chagas disease but sped up by a few years. Oh, and symptoms also include some kind of dermal necrosis.”
“None of the patients have exhibited signs of necrosis. There’s rashes but not…” You heard Bones curse.
“Yeah. If you could send a gurney my way it’d be much appreciated, doc. I’ll try to meet you halfway.” You hung up before Bones could say anything. There was only one voice you wanted to hear right now and it wasn’t his.
“Ashalik,” Spock said, “I thought you would be too busy to call.”
“Yes, but I found the cause of the illness,” you said, leaning against a wall to catch your breath. Your chest felt tight. “I’m heading to MedBay now to give the results to Dr. McCoy.”
“Are you all right? You sound a little breathless.”
You couldn’t help but smile. “Always am around you.” You slid down the wall, energy draining from you quickly. You could almost picture Spock sitting in the Captain’s chair while Jim dealt with the emergency in MedBay. His eyebrow quirking up, cheeks tinged green. You hummed softly at the thought. “Tell me you love me.”
“You know I do. Tal-kam, is there something wrong? Are you-”
“No, I want to hear you say it, Spock. It always sounds better when you say it.” You could hear a slur in your voice and you knew Spock would hear it too. There were a few seconds of silence before he spoke.
“I ayasha du.” Spock said something else, but you weren’t quite sure what. Your eyes had slipped shut by now and the only thing you could hear was a soft ringing in your ears. You felt yourself tipping over but couldn’t do anything to stop it, doomed to lie there until the medics found you unconscious, smile still playing around the corners of your mouth.
You woke up to a stinging pain in your arm and a scratching in your throat. You coughed lightly around a tube and it felt like your entire chest was on fire. You tried to ignore it, breath around it, but it felt like you were choking until you heard your door open and a nurse ran to your bedside to take it out. You smiled weakly at her as she moved to adjust your feeding tube.
“Gave us quite the scare,” she said with a smile. “Though I suppose not as much as you gave him.” She nodded to your left and you tilted your head as far as you could to see Spock curled up in a chair asleep. “Hasn’t left your side in days. Not since he and Dr. McCoy worked out a treatment.” You smiled.
Your gaze seemed to rouse him, because he began to stir. He was on his feet the second he saw your eyes on him. He clasped your hand in his and pressed a kiss to your temple before leaning his forehead against yours. He said nothing, but you didn’t need him to. You understood.
Of course, Bones didn’t understand the intimacy of the moment and barged in with a tricorder and a hypo. Most of the symptoms were gone, but the arrhythmia seemed permanent so far just as it had with Mavek. It would require some more testing and medication but would be manageable.
“Until we’re sure it’s arrhythmia and not an extension of the symptoms, I don’t want doing anything strenuous. You can go back to work as long as you stay in a wheelchair that someone else pushes. Outside that, we’ll run a few cardiac stress tests in the lab, but you shouldn’t do any running or fighting or basically anything that would raise your heart rate.” He said the last few words pointedly towards Spock.
“I’m not sure why you’re addressing me, Doctor. I have no control over what-”
“He’s talking about banging,” Jim said, all smiles. He was leaning against the doorway like he’d just won the lottery. “No more early nights or late mornings or quickies down in the lab. That is, where you went all those times, right?”
The tips of Spock’s ears turned soft green. “I’m sure I don’t know-”
“How long have you guys been married,” Jim turned his questioning to you. “I mean, come on. I didn’t even know you guys were together and now lover boy over here is pining at your bedside and you have a ring around your neck. What’s it been? A few months?”
“Give or take a couple years,” you said, still smiling.
Jim stepped into the room fully, smacking Bones on the arm as he passed. “A couple years? Did you know, Bones?”
“None of my damn business,” Bones grumbled, smacking Jim back.
“Well then,” Jim said, rubbing his arm lightly, “I say it’s high time to celebrate then.”
“You deserve congratulations for discovering a new species of insect, especially one so deadly,” Spock said. “The discovery will save countless lives if future voyages are ever attempted.”
Jim threw an arm around Spock’s shoulders. “Is he always this boring? Because I definitely meant I’m throwing you guys a bachelor and bachelorette party.”
You laughed, but, with your throat still raw from the breathing tube, it came out more like a croak which lead to a cough which lead to Bones shuffling everyone but Spock out of the room. He pulled his chair closer to your bedside again and dropped his face in his hands. It looked like he’d aged a decade in the past week.
“I’m sorry I scared you, ashayam.” You ran your fingers through Spock’s hair. His shoulders shook softly but he made no noise and you wanted so badly to hold him. “Come here.” You tugged gently on his hands until he looked at you. You scooted to the edge of the bed, and Spock took the hint, crawling onto the biobed with you until you were just a tangle of limbs and tubes and tears.
“I ashaya du, k’diwa,” you said, still stroking Spock’s hair as he laid against your chest. “In sickness and in health.”

A SECRET FOR HER TO KEEP     (    and she does have a talent for keeping secrets     )   there is a moment in the lifespan of even a stilled heartbeat in every lazy tip of his lips upward which he looks like Leo Fuchs, straight out of some picture that is always playing so long as you know where to go.

The city rattles on with no fuel shortages    (    even the most destitute corners having some sort of cart selling half-loaves and bit of bread.     )   Between her theories of what awaits men crossing an ocean Natasha had spent her life attempting to leap the width of, her housemate, Matya, has her own opinions of the daunting pace set by cars to mind when crossing the road.
It’s an offhand comment, unencumbered by fear of a muddled translation when she can just as easily slip into a common tongue with him beside her, buffing out the noise of the belly-full cars and people. He never seems to fun out of fuel either. Except, of course, when it comes to actually minding his studies and leaving her to walk home alone.

1st  farmer: we need to move, all of them  needs to go to jail
2nd farmer:  yeahhh! We need to fight for freedom and for the other farmers Narrator: Due to circumstances of conflict, the army provided a report on what could have happened when the peasants' uprisings and violent activities were over, so the President called on Mando, Senator Bright and Dr. Sabio to find an opinion but ultimately decided on his own mind because at the time they talked, two truckers of a civilian guard in Hacienda ran and fired the peasants who were killed by Pastor. Here they saw Mando, Danoy and other survivors who had to start the change, co-opting the crooked principles that were lively to the bigger predators that absorbed the blood of the dying Filipinos in their desire proper and equal treatment of a person, whether a millionaire or one employee.

Amplio Automation Building in Székesfehérvár

Amplio Automation Building in Székesfehérvár, Hungary

Amplio Automation Building
Design: T2a Architects
Location: Székesfehérvár, Hungary
“Design is not what it looks like, but how it works.” / AMPLIO
Amplio Automation – rapidly growing “smart manufacturing” automation firm’s headquarters designed for the future now, and tomorrow.
Amplio Headquarters is the sort of technologically driven space that a high-tech firm needs, capable of functioning as an office, development lab and factory while running entirely on automation.
In most architectural endeavours, there’s always a balance between form versus function. That delicate and intricate manoeuvring between that which pleases aesthetically and that which admirably performs its intended objective underpins so much of modern architecture and design. With the headquarters of high-tech automation firm Amplio, the work of its architect was much clearer in this regard, since the two were inexplicably linked: “Design is not what it looks like, but how it works,” explains Bence Turanyi of the inspiration behind the design of the building. This is an ethos that lives throughout the creations of Amplio itself, and the headquarters that Turanyi and his team designed intended to reflect that.
In that sense, it may not be that the Amplio building is the most visually outrageous, but a considered eye has meant it is stark and significant all the same. Resting among an industrial center of Hungary a short drive from its capital of Budapest, the new headquarters stands out among its equally industrial neighbours.
This contrast is crucial to the experience of the building, too. Amplio is a company with an international clientele and builds custom electronic parts, primarily for the automobile industry; its headquarters is also a crucial meeting point for existing and potential business partners, and in that sense a building that could impress while still able to perform its functional tasks as an HQ, development lab and manufactory was important. “They were looking for something that would help them to create a brand as well,” says Turanyi of Amplio’s hopes for the design of the building. “Amplio’s founder is a really brand-minded figure, and though the initial brand was there I immediately felt that the architectural solution will be part of the brand and even a main element of the brand itself. We had to communicate, in an architectural way, the essence of the company.”
The approach to the building is primarily where that essence comes is first discovered. From its side it could just be another industrial export from Japan, but as the perspective shifts, so too does the view of the building. This dynamism was a conscious choice, one that was inspired by Amplio’s products that are designed to be their most ergonomic and effective, a beauty born from their impressively mechanical nature. The architects designed a similar concept, which is first achieved when a visitor arrives at the entrance and beneath the six-meter, cantilevered top floor that houses the main office area of the headquarters. Large glass windows wrap around half of the building to allow the approaching viewer to see the activity within the office; as the ‘brain’ of the corporation, being able to witness the buzzing activity within emboldens Amplio’s brand appeal with energy and excitement.
And much like the products that Amplio creates, the design and construction process of the headquarters was not a static one. The high-tech firm is enjoying a moment of intense growth, meaning that there had to be an acknowledgement that even as the project rolled on, there would be need for the studio’s architectural and design input. “The founder of Amplio had a plan for the building, but it wasn’t fixed,” says Matyas Papp architect who was in charge of detailed technical design and on-site design management. “The company was and still is growing very fast, and right at the beginning he knew that it would not fit the future needs of the company.”
A very high-level BIM model was created during the planning phase and was developed into an as-built level final database during the construction period. This was possible on a technical level because the project architect was on hand and on-site throughout the construction phase, ready to make any adjustments and changes as required.
This was why much of the building is flexible in its purpose, and though it is separated into its constituent parts of offices, hallways or fine fittings, the spaces themselves are multifunctional in their design. This helps Amplio better position itself not only for its own growth, but also to better accommodate whatever may happen as part of the changing nature of the digital revolution.
It’s this sense of digital empowerment that guided the interiors, too. Attention was paid to the particulars of each space, drawing out a clean yet industrial look that gives the headquarters a noticeable modernity. The architects imagined the outer shell of the building as the body, and in that sense considered the interiors to be the organs. Exposed fixtures and fittings create an honesty about its interior design, once again echoing the belief that “design is how it works”. Crossed, steel columns and concrete walls create the industrial look, while contemporary meeting rooms and office space add a more contemporary flair.
Automation played a role in the functions of the building, too. If its interior is the organs, then the staff are the lifeblood, and so an Industry 4.0 attitude was adopted for the effective movement of Amplio’s workforce. A company that specializes in robotics and sensors needs to have an equally technological headquarters, after all. “Amplio’s corporate headquarters are state-of-the-art in its technical solutions,” says Turanyi. “All the technology used in the most advanced office buildings from around the world is here, from the cooling-heating system to the ventilation to the lighting. In harmony with the company profile, all of these work centrally automated with their own software, custom developed by Amplio.” Shading, heat and lighting have been coordinated to optimize energy use. The access control system detects human presence, and so the building knows exactly how many people are in each room and adjusts the lighting, ventilation and heating accordingly. As soon as the last person leaves, the light switches off and the robotic vacuum cleaner starts. Even in the large, seamless office space, the visual engineering and carpeting was handled to provide the right acoustic conditions.
The architects in the creation of the new center were inspired by Ampilo’s manufacturing technology to create unique machines and components that did not yet exist. This is how the center itself became a highly automated system whose design, shape and ergonomics were driven by a perfectly thought-out operation.
