A/N: Please let me know if you like to be removed/added to the taglist. I don't know a lot about Cameroonian culture, but I tried...
Zuri slumped on the couch, flicking mindlessly through channels on Aurélien's massive TV. Three days in this fancy house, and she'd barely seen her "fiancé." He was always rushing off to practice or meetings, leaving her alone in this unfamiliar place.
"Some marriage this is gonna be," she muttered, tossing the remote aside.
Her mind drifted back to how this chaos began. Last year, her dad Ernest had spent months in Cameroon, supposedly checking on grandma and some cousins. Turns out, he was also playing matchmaker with his old school buddy – Aurélien's dad. Two single kids, two scheming fathers, and bam! Instant engagement.
At first, Zuri had laughed it off. "Yeah, right," she'd told her friends. "Like arranged marriages are still a thing." But then the elders got involved, declaring it a "strong match." And when the elders speak, you shut up and nod, even if you're an American-born girl whose closest connection to Cameroon was the dashiki hanging in her closet and her mother's cooking.
Zuri grimaced, remembering the elders' disapproving looks. They'd practically sneered at her Americanized ass whenever she visited, with her broken Bamum, vague knowledge of Bamileke traditions, and even worse French. In their eyes, Aurélien was the golden boy – all traditional and strong.
"Maybe he can teach you a thing or two," one elder had said, eyeing her skeptically.
Just last night, Zuri had gone full stalker mode, Googling the hell out of him. Articles about his soccer career, thirst trap photos from events, gossip about his hookups. She had to admit, he was fine as hell. That body was criminal.
"Get it together, Zu," she chided herself. "This isn't some rom-com."
Now, as she sat in his home, reality was hitting her like a ton of bricks. Next month, both families would descend on Madrid to kick off this engagement circus. Cultural ceremonies, bride price talks, all that traditional crap she'd only seen in movies.
"How the fuck am I supposed to do this?" Zuri groaned, burying her face in a throw pillow.
She was a budding influencer, for Christ's sake. Her world was hashtags and sponsored posts, not ancient tribal customs. Yet here she was, about to be married to a stranger, expected to play the perfect Cameroonian bride.
Zuri pulled out her phone, thumb hovering over the Instagram icon. She was itching to post something, anything, to feel like her old self. But she hesitated. Was she even allowed to share this shit? Would Aurélien flip? Would the elders have a collective aneurysm?
"Fuck it," she sighed, putting her phone away. She'd have to figure all of this out eventually. But for now, she was just a lost girl in a strange house, in a foreign country, waiting for a ghost of a husband to acknowledge her existence.
As if on cue, the sound of a key turning in the lock caught her attention. Zuri's head snapped up, her heart suddenly racing. The front door swung open, and in walked Aurélien, looking every bit the professional athlete he was. His training kit clung to his muscular frame, his hair slightly damp with sweat.
Zeus bounded over to his master, tail wagging furiously. Aurélien bent down to ruffle the dog's fur, a genuine smile lighting up his face. Zuri took a brief moment to glance heavenward. "Are you trying to spite me, Lord?" she muttered under her breath.
Part of her wanted Aurélien to acknowledge her presence, to remember that she was an actual living, breathing human being sharing his space. But another part of her wasn't quite ready to face him. She needed more time to wallow in her misfortune, dammit.
Their eyes met, and Zuri felt a jolt of electricity run through her. Aurélien nodded in her direction. "Hey," he said, his voice deep and slightly rough from exertion.
"Hey," Zuri echoed, scrambling for something to say. "How was, uh… practice?"
Aurélien shrugged as he made his way to the kitchen. "Same as usual," he replied, pulling a water bottle from the fridge.
Zuri found herself unable to look away as he took a long drink. His head tilted back, exposing the strong line of his neck. She watched, mesmerized, as his Adam's apple bobbed with each swallow. A drop of water escaped, trailing down his chin and neck before disappearing into the collar of his shirt. The flex of his arm as he held the bottle made Zuri's mouth go dry.
Damn, why did he have to be so attractive? It was honestly unfair. Here she was, trying to come to terms with this arranged marriage bullshit, and her "fiancé" had to look like he'd just stepped out of a sports drink commercial.
Realizing she'd been staring, Zuri cleared her throat (and her mind), forcing herself to look away. "Cool, cool," she mumbled, internally cringing at how awkward she sounded. This arranged marriage thing was bad enough without her turning into a bumbling idiot every time her future husband walked into the room.
An awkward silence fell between them. Zuri fidgeted with the hem of her shirt, desperately trying to think of something to say. Should she ask about his day? Comment on the weather? Discuss the impending doom of their arranged marriage?
Before she could decide, Aurélien spoke up. "You eat yet?" he asked, his eyes scanning the spotless kitchen.
Zuri blinked, caught off guard by the question. "Uh, no," she admitted. "I wasn't sure if… I mean, I didn't know if I should…"
Aurélien raised an eyebrow. "If you should what? Eat? It's your house too, you know."
The casualness of his statement hit Zuri like whiplash. Right. This was her house now. Her life. Her future. The reality of it all threatened to overwhelm her again.
Zuri shifted uncomfortably under Aurélien's gaze. "I, uh, had a cup of yogurt with some fruit this morning," she admitted sheepishly.
Aurélien gave her a look, his eyebrows furrowing slightly. "And?"
"That's it," she mumbled, averting her eyes.
She didn't want to admit to him that her appetite was out of whack due to the whole "surprise, you're getting married to a stranger" situation. The last thing she needed was for him to think she was some delicate flower who couldn't handle a little life upheaval. Even if that's exactly how she felt at the moment.
Aurélien kissed his teeth. "That's not enough," he said, moving towards the fridge. "You need to eat properly."
Zuri watched as he pulled out a large glass dish covered in foil. "What are you doing?"
"Heating up dinner," he replied, turning on the oven. "My chef left some pasta dish as part of my meal prep. It's like a lasagna, but not really. Hope that's okay."
For a moment, Zuri just stared at him, baffled. This man, who she'd barely seen for three days, was suddenly sharing his food with her? The cognitive dissonance was real.
"You don't have to," she started, but Aurélien cut her off with a wave of his hand.
"I'm hungry, you're hungry. It's not a big deal," he said, sliding the dish into the oven.
Zuri found herself at a loss for words. She watched as Aurélien set the timer, his athletic grace apparent even in this simple task. The silence between them was punctuated only by the soft hum of the oven.
"So," Aurélien said after a while, leaning against the counter. "How are you settling in?"
The question caught Zuri off guard. How was she supposed to answer that? 'Oh, you know, just peachy. Love being uprooted from my life and thrown into an arranged marriage. Living the dream!'
Instead, she opted for a noncommittal shrug. "It's… different," she said carefully.
Aurélien nodded, as if he understood completely. "Yeah, I bet. Must be a big change from New York."
Zuri blinked, surprised he knew where she was from. Had he been researching her too?
"You could say that," she murmured, her mind racing. Was this small talk? Were they doing small talk now? God, this was weird. "How'd you know I'm from New York?" Zuri asked, curiosity getting the better of her.
Aurélien smirked. "Your accent. Sounds like you're straight from Brooklyn. I've been to enough Nets games to know how those Brooklynites talk." He then launched into an imitation, his French accent making it sound utterly ridiculous. "Yo, I'm walkin' here!"
Despite herself, Zuri burst out laughing. It was a genuine laugh, one that surprised even her. Aurélien's lip twitched in response, and he nodded approvingly. "That's dope. Your tooth gem."
Zuri's hand instinctively went to her mouth, touching the small diamond on her incisor. "Thanks," she said, a bit taken aback by the compliment.
"I bet your dad freaked out about that," Aurélien mused.
Zuri rolled her eyes in recognition. "Oh, you have no idea. Just wait until he finds out about my piercing. That'll put him in an early grave."
Aurélien's brow furrowed in confusion. His eyes shifted around her face, then briefly to her slightly visible belly button. "What piercing? Unless he freaks out about ear piercings?"
"Uh... no," Zuri mumbled, her cheeks warming as she realized she'd dug herself into a deeper hole. "My nipples... are pierced."
Realization dawned on Aurélien's face, followed quickly by surprise and something else... was that desire? "Oh!" he exclaimed, his eyes widening. "Oh... that's hot."
The moment the words left his mouth, the air between them seemed to crackle with tension. Zuri felt her face grow even warmer, unsure how to respond to her soon-to-be husband calling her nipple piercings "hot."
Aurélien cleared his throat, suddenly very interested in the oven timer. "So, uh, dinner should be ready soon," he said, his voice a touch higher than usual.
Zuri nodded, grateful for the change of subject. "Great," she managed to squeak out, wondering if it was possible to die of embarrassment.
The oven timer broke the awkward silence, its shrill beep making them both jump slightly.
"I'll get it," Aurélien said quickly, moving to retrieve their dinner. The rich aroma of cheese and herbs filled the kitchen as he pulled out the dish.
Zuri watched him dish out two plates, her mind still reeling from their unexpected exchange. She couldn't believe she'd just told him about her nipple piercings. And his reaction… well, that was something she'd have to unpack later.
"So," Aurélien said as he set a plate in front of her, "besides traumatizing your dad with body modifications, what else do you do?"
Zuri snorted, grateful for the attempt at normalcy. "I'm an influencer," she said, bracing herself for the usual skepticism that followed that statement.
Aurélien nodded, seemingly unfazed. "Yeah? What kind of content?"
"Mostly fashion and lifestyle stuff," Zuri explained, twirling pasta around her fork. "Some travel content when I can swing it."
"Sounds interesting," Aurélien said, and to her surprise, he seemed genuinely curious. "How'd you get into that?"
As they ate, Zuri found herself opening up about her career, her goals, her struggles with balancing authenticity and marketability. Aurélien listened attentively, asking questions that showed he was actually paying attention.
"What about you?" Zuri asked eventually, realizing she'd been dominating the conversation. "I mean, I know you play football, but… what else?"
Aurélien shrugged, a small smile playing on his lips. "Not much else, honestly. Football takes up most of my time. But I like music, reading when I can, doing a bit of a podcast too. And I've got Zeus, of course."
At the mention of his name, the dog's ears perked up, and he trotted over to Aurélien's side.
"He seems to really love you," Zuri observed, watching as Aurélien absently scratched behind Zeus's ears.
"Yeah, he's a good boy," Aurélien said fondly. Then, glancing at Zuri, he added, "You know, he doesn't usually warm up to strangers so quickly. You must be special."
Zuri felt her cheeks warm again, unsure how to take the compliment. Was he flirting? Or just being nice? This arranged marriage situation was making it hard to read social cues.
"Listen," Aurélien said, his tone turning more serious. "I know this whole situation is… unconventional. But I want you to know, I'm committed to making it work. Whatever that looks like for us."
Zuri nodded slowly, processing his words. "Yeah," she said finally. "Me too. I guess we're in this together, huh?"
Aurélien's lips quirked into a half-smile. "Looks like it. So, truce?"
He extended his hand across the table. Zuri looked at it for a moment before reaching out to shake it, a small smile of her own forming.
"Truce," she agreed.
As their hands touched, Zuri felt a spark of… something. Connection? Possibility? Whatever it was, she realized that maybe, just maybe, this arranged marriage wasn't going to be the disaster she'd feared. It was still weird, still not what she'd planned for her life, but sitting here, sharing a meal and conversation with Aurélien, it didn't seem quite so daunting anymore.
Maybe, just maybe, they could make this work.
A few days had passed since Aurélien's impromptu dinner with Zuri. He'd been swamped with intense training sessions, preparing for the upcoming match against Atalanta in Warsaw. But despite the physical exhaustion, his mind kept drifting back to that night at the club with Jules, and the image of Zuri's tear-stained face when he'd returned home.
It had stirred something in him. A desire to try, to make an effort, even with all the chaos of his professional life. He owed her that much, at least.
So far, they'd been lucky. The media hadn't caught wind of Zuri yet, but Aurélien knew it was only a matter of time. Especially if she accompanied him to Poland next week. He wondered if it was even a good idea to bring her along, but then again, keeping her hidden away wouldn't solve anything in the long run.
Their recent conversations had revealed something that both amused and concerned him: Zuri didn't know the first thing about football. It was almost endearing, but as the wife of a professional player, it was a gap in knowledge he needed to address, and soon.
Aurélien's mind wandered to their dinner conversation, to Zuri's casual revelation about her nipple piercings. The memory sent an unexpected jolt of heat through him. He'd been trying not to think about it, about her in that way, but it was becoming increasingly difficult.
His father's frequent calls didn't help matters. "How are you two getting along?" he'd ask, his tone a mix of concern and expectation. Aurélien would give vague, noncommittal answers, not quite ready to dissect his growing attraction to his arranged bride.
Because attracted he was, there was no denying it. Zuri was exactly his type: a brown-skinned beauty with full, kissable lips. While she wasn't particularly busty, her wide hips more than made up for it in Aurélien's eyes. He found himself stealing glances when she wasn't looking, admiring the way her clothes hugged her curves.
As Aurélien jogged onto the training pitch, he pushed his personal thoughts aside, focusing on the drills ahead. The next few hours were a blur of tactical exercises, sprints, and practice matches. By the time Ancelotti blew the final whistle, Aurélien was drenched in sweat, his muscles aching pleasantly from exertion.
In the locker room, as he was toweling off after his shower, Jude's voice cut through the post-practice chatter.
"Oi, Tchouaméni! We still on for tonight at yours?"
Aurélien froze for a moment, the realization hitting him. He'd completely forgotten about their regular hangouts, where they'd rotate hosting duties at each other's homes.
"Uh, yeah," he managed, his mind racing. "Yeah, we're still on."
Camavinga chimed in, patting his stomach for dramatic effect. "Good, because I'm starving. Your chef better have something good planned."
"Don't forget, Kylian's joining us this time," Jude added, referring to their newest addition to the team, Kylian Mbappé.
As his teammates continued chatting excitedly about the evening plans, Aurélien felt a knot forming in his stomach. How could he have forgotten to mention Zuri's early arrival?
"Uh, guys," he started, his voice cutting through the conversation. "There's something I should probably tell you…"
Jude looked at him curiously. "What's up, mate?"
Aurélien took a deep breath. "My, uh… my fiancée is in Madrid. She's staying at my place."
The locker room fell silent for a moment before erupting into a cacophony of surprised exclamations.
"The fuck?" Camavinga sputtered.
"Since when are you engaged?" another teammate chimed in.
Jude, however, just stared at Aurélien, his eyes wide with surprise. "Mate," he said slowly, "are you telling me she's here already? I thought that wasn't happening until next month."
Aurélien nodded, feeling a mix of relief and anxiety at finally sharing the news. "Yeah, she arrived a few days ago. It was… unexpected."
"Bloody hell," Jude exclaimed, shaking his head in disbelief. "And you're just telling us now?"
Aurélien fielded questions from his teammates, feeling a bit overwhelmed. He'd only told Jude and Camavinga about the arranged marriage, and trying to explain it to everyone now felt strange and oddly invasive.
"But is she fit though?" one of his teammates asked, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively.
Aurélien's lips trembled with amusement. "Yeah," he admitted, "she's gorgeous."
As the guys continued to rib him, Aurélien quickly sent a text to Zuri:
"Heads up, some teammates are sliding through tonight."
Her reply came moments later:
"Should I make something?"
He texted back:
"Not necessary."
"I owe you one 😉" came her final response, making him smile despite his nervousness.
Later that evening, the guys arrived at Aurélien's house. They greeted Zeus enthusiastically, ruffling his fur and letting him jump up on them. Suddenly, a delicious aroma wafted from the kitchen.
"Mate, something smells amazing," Jude commented, sniffing the air appreciatively.
The guys made their way to the kitchen, where the aroma of spices and simmering meat filled the air. Zuri stood at the stove, stirring a large pot.
"Not wifey making dinner. I see you, Aurél," Camavinga said with a grin.
Aurélien introduced Zuri to his teammates, trying to ignore the way Cama's eyes lingered on her. She was wearing another one of her baby t-shirts and a pair of athletic shorts that were criminally short, accentuating her curves.
When he noticed Cama staring a bit too hard at Zuri's ass, Aurélien couldn't help but mush the guy's head playfully. "Eyes up here, bro," he muttered, feeling a strange mix of pride and possessiveness.
Zuri turned to greet them all, her smile bright and welcoming. "Hope you guys like ndolé," she said, gesturing to the pot. "It's a traditional Cameroonian dish."
As the guys settled around the kitchen island to eat, Zuri fell into easy conversation with Kylian, Jude, and Camavinga. Aurélien watched, pleasantly surprised at how naturally she interacted with his friends.
Suddenly, Zuri's phone rang. "Excuse me for a sec," she said, stepping out of the kitchen to take the call.
As soon as she was out of earshot, the teasing began.
"Yo, Aurél," Camavinga piped up, "think your dad can find me a wife too? She's a baddie!"
"For real though," Kylian chimed in, "you lucked out, man. She seems cool."
Jude nodded in agreement. "It's great that you're both trying to make it work. Can't wait to tell Lila about this – she's gonna flip!"
After dinner, the guys lounged in Aurélien's living room, plates balanced on their laps, loaded with Zuri's hastily baked cookies and generous scoops of ice cream. The air was thick with laughter and the sweet scent of sugary goodness.
"Yo," Kylian called out, a mischievous glint in his eye, "your girl's got skills. You sure this is an arranged marriage and not you bribing her?"
Aurélien rolled his eyes, but he couldn't help the small surge of pride he felt at the compliment to Zuri. He watched as she laughed, the sound warming something inside him he didn't quite want to examine yet.
As the night wore on, Aurélien found himself growing increasingly antsy. His teammates seemed determined to know every detail of Zuri's life, and while he appreciated their interest, he couldn't shake the feeling of wanting to shield her from their prying questions.
"Alright, guys," he finally said, clapping his hands together. "It's getting late. Some of us have training in the morning."
A chorus of groans met his announcement, but the guys began to gather their things. Aurélien ushered them out, ignoring their good-natured ribbing about him wanting alone time with his "wifey".
When he returned to the living room, Zuri was already gathering plates and cups. "You don't have to do that," he said, moving to help her.
"It's no big deal," she shrugged. "Your friends are nice."
They worked in companionable silence for a few minutes, the awkwardness from earlier in the week creeping back in now that they were alone.
"Hey," Aurélien said suddenly, breaking the quiet. "Want to watch a movie or something?"
Zuri looked up, surprise evident on her face. "Sure, why not?"
They settled on the couch, a respectable distance between them that was quickly filled by Zeus, who flopped down with a contented sigh.
As the credits rolled, Aurélien stretched, reaching for the remote. "Well, that was…"
"Terrible," Zuri finished for him, laughing. "Seriously, who picked that movie?"
He grinned, shrugging. "Guilty as charged. I'll do better next time."
The phrase 'next time' hung in the air between them, a promise of more evenings like this. Aurélien found himself not hating the idea.
"So," he said, his tone casual as he absently scratched Zeus behind the ears, "have you ever been to Poland?"
Zuri blinked, caught off guard by the sudden change in topic. "Can't say I have. Why?"
"You should come through," he said, his eyes meeting hers. "I've got a match there next week."
Aurélien watched her, trying to gauge her reaction. Was this too much, too soon?
"That could be… interesting," she said slowly, testing the waters.
He nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. "Cool. It's a date then." As soon as the words left his mouth, Aurélien felt his eyes widen slightly. Shit. Did I really just say that? "I mean," he backtracked, feeling uncharacteristically flustered, "not a date-date, just… you know…"
"I know," Zuri said quickly, saving him from his fumbling. "Sounds good."
They lapsed into silence, the air between them charged with something Aurélien couldn't quite name. As Zuri stood to head to bed, he found himself watching her go, wondering what exactly he'd just set in motion.
A trip to Poland with his arranged fiancée to watch him play football. Life, he mused, had certainly taken an unexpected turn.

There were many things you were unsure of, but one thing you did know was that autumn was your absolute favorite time of the whole year.
The mornings when you were both home from cases usually started slow and sweet. You'd wake up ten minutes past your alarm, Aaron's chapped lips the only thing strong enough to awaken you from your slumber. You'd press to know why he allowed you to be late, but he'd just insist, "We have nowhere important to be. Besides, you just looked so peaceful. How could I ever wake you?"
When you finally rolled out of bed, his hands would be on your waist, his lips trailing soft kisses down your neck as the two of you made your way into the kitchen. You'd start on a pan of French toast while Aaron put on the coffee, stealing quick kisses as the two of you glided around the space, each of you already anticipating the other's every move.
Then, you'd eat together in the breakfast nook, the sunlight glowing all around him, somehow making his five-o'clock shadow and bedhead seem ethereal. The conversation would flow from topic to topic as easily as water flowed downstream. But this particular day, there was one topic Aaron seemed to be actively avoiding.
It was a week from his birthday, and while he knew better than to tell you not to get him anything, he would still put his foot down about making a big deal out of the situation. If one person found out, then they'd all find out, and truly, his only wish every year was to spend his birthday with the person he loved most, not the entirety of the FBI. He'd much rather have take-out and a cheap bottle of wine in the comfort of his own home than hors d'oeuvres and expensive champagne with people he hardly knew.
Still, you'd tried all morning to get him to crack and tell you what he wanted for his birthday. But his response was always the same: "You're the only thing I need, my love."
One somewhat pointless conversation and a plate of French toast later, the two of you were headed back to the bedroom to get ready for the day ahead. He'd head into the bathroom to shave, and you'd steal glances of him as you got dressed in the bedroom. Then he'd do the same, eyeing you with absolute love and adoration as you applied layers of makeup he still insisted you didn't need, even after years of marriage.
Soon enough, you'd arrive at your favorite little bookstore and cafe. Any onlooker would immediately be able to tell just how in love Aaron was with you, sporting a matching sweater you'd clearly picked out and his hand only parting from yours to open the door, which he insisted on doing any time you went anywhere together.
"Alright, I'm setting you free," he joked, placing a soft kiss on your forehead. "Don't cause too much chaos in the romance aisle, okay?"
You giggled, leaning up to kiss him on the lips for once. "I'll only squeal if they have anything signed by my favorite author."
And with that, he was headed off to the cafe side of the building, going to collect a cup of your favorite hot chocolate. Most people preferred to drink coffee while they shopped, but to you, nothing beat curling the sleeves of your sweater around your hands and sipping a cup of hot chocolate. Even after years of coming to this place, you still hadn't figured out how they made it taste infinitely better than other hot chocolate you'd ever had.
Once you were absolutely sure Aaron was in line at the cafe, you were bee-lining in the opposite direction of the romance aisle and over to the literary fiction section.
While you'd originally told Aaron you wanted to go to the bookstore under the guise of wanting to see if they had a copy of a new release you'd been excited about, you secretly had other plans. If he wasn't going to tell you what he wanted, you'd take matters into your own hands.
You peered around one of the shelves to make sure he wasn't looking, letting out a quick sigh of relief as you spotted him reading something on his phone.
You had all of about three minutes to find a couple books that he hadn't read, which was no small feat. Nearly every second of Aaron's free time was spent devouring a novel, and while you loved that he had found a hobby he truly enjoyed, it also made it devastatingly hard to buy him new books.
In roughly two and a half minutes, you'd managed to find three books that you were sure Aaron would love. Then, you were all but sprinting over to the romance section and grabbing the first book you saw, reading the back cover nonchalantly as your husband walked up.
You were reading the back of some novel about two rival scientists falling in love when Aaron got back with two cups of hot chocolate and a sugar cookie the size of your face. "Your drink, my dear," he said, holding out one of the cups.
You took the cup from him, inhaling that first anticipated sip of the warm liquid. "Thank you."
"You found anything interesting yet?" he asked, a hand meeting the small of your back.
You shook your head, placing the scientist romance novel back on the shelf and picking up another book with a beautiful pink cover. "Nothing much. No signed copies so you'll be glad to know I won't be disturbing the other readers with my squeals."
He chuckled, a deep sound that made butterflies go off in your stomach every time you heard it. "Thank you, I'm sure it's appreciated," he kidded. He took the tote from your shoulder, immediately registering the weight of the bag. "Nothing much?" he inquired.
Before he could open the bag to look inside, you were swatting his hand and snatching it away. "It's… an encyclopedia I promised Reid I'd get for him if I saw it."
Aaron cocked an eyebrow at you. "Since when do you go shopping for Reid?" he inquired, a chuckle on the tip of his tongue.
You wracked your brain for some kind of response that sounded at least halfway truthful. "He hasn't been able to find it anywhere and he knew we liked coming here, so he asked me to check next time we came."
That skeptical brow of his only raised itself higher. "Well, there's one flaw with your story and that's that I'm a profiler and I know when you're lying to me."
Before you could form a rebuttal, he was taking the bag out of your hands again. "Aaron, don't-" you barely got out the words before he was holding up the copy of The Midnight Library.
His brows furrowed as he held up the book, examining the cover for a moment. "This isn't a romance."
You let out an exasperated breath at his examination. "That's kind of the point, Aaron."
"Well, I thought we came to find a copy of that new book you've been looking for."
You ran a hand through your hair, letting out a small huff of amusement. "I suppose I should come clean. I did lie to you."
Aaron's mouth flew open in fake shock. "No! I never would've guessed."
"Not about that," you grumbled, slapping his arm. "About why we're here in the first place. I wanted to find you something for your birthday."
His features wrinkled in embarrassment, a small sigh escaping between his lips. "Well, now I look like an ass."
You were inclined to agree, he did kind of look like an ass. But he was a cute ass and you wouldn't want him any other way. Hands flying up to his cheeks, you pulled him down for a long and soft kiss. His wrinkles of slight mortification melted away as he settled into your touch, the scents of hot chocolate and new books taking over each of your senses.
Aaron was the first to pull away, moving his kiss from your lips to your forehead, before meeting you with an expression filled with admiration. "You-"
"-'Didn't have to get me anything.' I know," you finished for him. "But these ones seem really interesting and I thought that maybe we could read them together."
His mouth curved upward into that smile of his that was so sweet, so loving, so… Aaron. "If I'm going to share a book, I'm always going to hope it's with you."

The concept of Inquisitor Anders (and Justice) is so special to me actually. Everyone agree that everything the "regular" Inquisitor goes through/accomplishes is already mind-blowing. But for Anders to be the Inquisitor? The stakes would be even more impossible.
Anders thought he was going to die for what he had done, but Hawke spared him. After that he has to go on with no plan whatsoever, as best as he can while on the run as one of the most wanted man in Thedas. The only thing that is clear to him is that he has to keep helping the mage rebellion until he is either caught and killed, or until his Calling. All he has is borrowed time. So even as a fugitive, Anders' story is likely already written and over.
And then the Conclave happens, and Anders not only has his eyes glow blue sometimes, but he now has an occasionally green glowy hand as well.
So here he is, Anders the apostate, Anders the Kirkwall Chantry criminal, who has nothing but with *everything* to prove.
Remember. This is the man that gave everything that he had, everything he was to his cause. He fought for *years* in Kirkwall with his clinic, his manifesto, with the Mages Underground and still things worsened, with barely anyone listening to him until he blew the Chantry up. And now he has to convince everyone that he isn't responsible for the explosion at the Conclave? Right, as if his track record would permit that. How could he possibly be able to close the breach in the sky when he was the one who started the war between the templars and the mages in the first place?
The regular Inquisitor already has trouble proving themselves trustworthy at the beginning of DAI, so imagine it now with Anders. People would literally be out for blood. The Chantry would not only discredit the Inquisition as heretics, it would call for his immediate dissolution/destruction. Anders would also try to help all the refugees just like before in Kirkwall, while being the very reason these people lost so much in the first place this time.
Now on to the advisors and companions. How would Leliana, who also walk the path of violence for her cause, who is pro-mages but also had great faith in Justinia, interact with Anders? Even if Cullen has left the templars, could he and Anders even manage to cooperate after everything? Especially considering that Cullen was Meredith's second and the one who dismantled Anders' Mages Underground? How would Josephine and Anders work together to promote their cause, with how Anders must regard nobility after living in Darktown for years or after watching Kirkwall nobles interact with Hawke?
After investigating what happened in Kirkwall, Cassandra would probably be more than wary of Anders. But at the same time in DAI she is among the first ones to believe that the character must be the Herald of Andraste. I imagine that Cassandra would be particularly conflicted on how to treat Anders because of this.
Varric. Anders was his friend. Anders is the one who set Kirkwall on fire. For all that they know each other, things would probably still be tense between them at first. Varric also followed Hawke to see him rise from having barely anything to his name to becoming the Champion of Kirkwall. What would he think about Anders, a companion of the initial protagonist (or even protagonists, if you take into account DA Awakening), when he's now taking a path that seems to lead him towards becoming so much more? Especially considering that in DAI Varric struggles with how to perceive the Inquisitor, having to juggle between seeing the character as his friend (if you have a good relationship with him) and seeing them as an icon, the Herald of Andraste.
Anders and Vivienne would absolutely despise each other and their snark matches would be the stuff of legends. The only reason those two could even work together is if they agree that closing the breach takes priority over everything else.
I imagine that Anders, Justice and Solas would have some interesting conversations about spirits and the Fade while also butting heads on a lot of things. Both would be convinced that they are the authority on these subjects. But perhaps they would learn to eventually concede on some things with time.
I think Sera would really like Anders for his continued dedication towards helping people and his insistance to give up what he has for others. Sera's fear of magic and Anders absolute pro-mages stance would definitely cause more than one row between them however. Not to mention Justice. Their relationship would be one of the most interesting there in my opinion.
Blackwall would also be another greatly interesting character to watch interact with Inquisitor Anders. Anders would be able to tell that Blackwall is bullshitting about being a Warden from the get-go, because he was one and can sense the taint. Those two would definitely have some interesting debates on justice (and with Justice), or talks about how to go on and do good after having committed an atrocious crime. Blackwall's admiration for the Grey Wardens versus Anders "Oh yeah, I was a Warden once, then I just quit" attitude would also result in some great banters I'm sure.
Anders would say to Iron Bull that he is very different from all the other Qunaris that were in Kirkwall, though I don't know how that conversation would go. Iron Bull would also definitely be afraid of Justice. I can see him adressing the question/problem of Anders being an "abomination" quite directly, because he is not comfortable with spirits/demons that are capable of taking over someone's mind, and Anders is a living proof of that fear. Despite this, I like to imagine that Justice would actually grow to respect the Iron Bull in some parts after hearing the Chargers' stories about him and seeing how protective of them Iron Bull is.
Despite their different upbringings, I think Dorian would somewhat remind Anders of himself when we was younger/before he merged with Justice. If Hawke isn't a mage, I can imagine Anders' relief and joy about finally being able to talk to someone about magic normally and openly. They would have conversations about Tevinter, politics, etc. In DAI, the Inquisitor can inspire Dorian and support him in his fight to change Tevinter. With Anders as the Inquisitor, this aspiration for social changes could be even more relevant.
Cole and Anders/Justice interactions would be another cool thing to see. Justice would recognize Cole as a spirit of Compassion right away. Despite their differences as spirits, I could see Justice becoming quite protective of Cole and defending him against people like Cassandra or Vivienne, having an unfortonate amount of experience being treated as a "demon" or "abomination". Cole would also try to help Anders with his guilt of course.
Discovering that Corypheus is their enemy would be less of a "oh it's him again/oh okay this is the villain" moment and become a lot more personal, with the worry that Anders could fall under his control if he is not strong enough.
Meeting Hawke once again in Skyhold would be An Event for sure, espeeecially if Hawke and Anders were (are?) in a romance. I'm letting everyone imagine how that would go with their own Hawke here.
And The Choice in the Fade, you know the one, would be even more heart-wrenching. Particularly if the Warden is someone that Anders knows, like Nathaniel Howe or even the Hero of Ferelden/Warden-Commander.
Bonus: Anders could also meet Fenris by chance during a mission to eliminate some Venatori.
Anyways. I really like the idea of Inquisitor Anders, yes.

My Thoughts and Opinions on all the Season One Drawtectives Witnesses Because I Just Finished Rewatching it
(Spoilers under the cut btw)
Buzz: Yeah his design is adorable the drawtectives are completely valid to just melt the second he comes on screen. I adore his voice and the fact that he doesn’t really talk that much, very fun contrast with the cute design. His crush on Dr. Fontaine is also incredibly cute glad they got to sit next to each other at Huck E. Heese. Wish I could eat some of his food but that’s kinda how I feel about all fictional chefs cause I like good food.
Don Jovi: What a name. I remember when I first watched the show I didn’t like him very much because he was the first witness to say “well you gotta earn the clue about the murder” but all things considered they’re chill. I don’t have many thoughts on them though other than the fact that it’s funny how even he finds the crew’s love for Buzz to be a bit much.
Avis Smythe: He obviously didn’t do it but I absolutely feel like he would kill for his son, even though he doesn’t actually know his age lol. Idk he just defends Ogalvy as a good kid so much, despite how blatantly obvious of a troublemaker he is, that I absolutely could see him killing for him if it came to that. Which brings me to yeah in terms of being a good dad he probably should set more boundaries but I love that he just lets Ogalvy do basically whatever weIl also swearing up and down that he’s such a good boy. I get why he was chosen as the fall guy but I also love that the crew went the complete opposite direction with it of “well it couldn’t be Avis cause he’s so nervous he’d probably just tell us if he did it”. However that does always make me wonder how he was able to be a good mole in his job. Also I didn’t say it yet but for him and Ogalvy both the designs are amazing. The reveal that they aren’t actual bird people is iconic. I love how their designs still perfectly match the masks like I would expect no one else under those masks you know.
Ogalvy Smythe: He’s such a little chaotic troublemaker of a kid I absolutely adore it. The fact that this child is not just a thief but a dedicated thief is amazing. Like he’s actively getting so upset when he realizes that there were expensive jewels in this house that someone who’s not him already stole. It’s perfect. He’s also Such a funny character like his lines are iconic and consistently had me laughing. It’s just that complete accurate bluntness that a 5 or something year old has. I don’t want to repeat myself too much but it should be said just how good his design is. Like he is just an egg and I love that for him. It’s not that important and makes sense but I do appreciate just how fitting the cartoon characters he assigned to each of the drawtectives are. Like yes Rosé gets hot lady, York gets hot guy, and Grendan gets dog, perfect. Also speaking of the drawtectives I love how they all eventually came around on him. And of course you can’t talk about Ogalvy without talking about his bond with Rosé. It’s adorable love these thief buddies love that Rosé takes him under her wing despite the fact that she’s trying to get out of that lifestyle. I love it all. Rosé asking what all he stole to try and see if he has the jewels is both a very smart move on her end and such a cute little bonding moment. Plus that gave us all the iconic line of “the hearts and minds of the people”. Overall I just absolutely love Ogalvy he’s probably my second favorite witness and despite his criminal tendencies, or let’s be honest here do in large part to them, he’s such a fun and charming character.
Faucon: Coolest person ever. I love how laid back she is it can sometimes be very funny just how chill she is about absolutely everything. Like just how cool she is was something so refreshing that it was almost comical. Love how she inspired Grendan to change up his name for the first time that’s pretty cool. Even though the name change is just a joke at that point Faucon is still just so supportive of it like it’s real sweet to see. Objectively she’s just the down to earth celebrity but she’s so good at being it you know. She’s cool and understanding while also not down playing her fame. I feel like most down to earth celebrities in fiction fall into a trap of just disregarding or not really liking their fame but that’s not really Faucon. She might be chill and not actively bringing up her status as a celebrity but she still loves her music and her band and if her interactions with the drawtectives is anything to go off of her fans too. She is truly just so nice and supportive about like absolutely everything. Even for something simple like Grendan not knowing many songs her immediate response is, that’s fine and you shouldn’t feel like you have to lie about it. Ended up loving her a lot more than I previously did upon rewatch.
Harper Justice: A lot of people love Harper but I’m not one of those people. I get why other’s like her so much but I am York in this situation. Her spoiled contradictions in her morals upset me. I also can’t stand how she didn’t give them any clues at the end of it. I do like her a lot more in the one shot stream where she’s less drunk and angry, plus giving her a pet that she loves immediately makes her more endearing. This post is only really about season one though so as it stands I still don’t really like her. I hope that her and her mom get closer after she tells her the truth about her past though. I just think it would be nice especially since they’re the only members of the justice family that are left.
Sam Ug: Sam gives us a lot of interesting information after Grendan uses their power on her. I really think her past as a criminal is intriguing especially in relation to Sorin giving her a second chance and her not really trusting people because of her past. Love that she’s based on a dragon and the cigarette representing the smoke is a cool choice. Kinda unrelated to her as a character but her drawing prompt is one of my absolute favorites in season one. It’s just so funny to watch the crew explain photoshop actions in traditional art wording as everyone is just sitting there like damn you really brought your whole ass art kit here tonight huh Grandma. Overall though I think she’s interesting and her past has some cool implications about how she is currently.
Emery Justice: Emery is a horrible evil dad killer we know this, however sense we do know this it can be a little fun to watch him upon rewatch. Like seeing him so quickly agree with any witness the drawtectives propose. Watching him talk up how strong the person must of had to be to overpower his dad. How he out the gate says he wants to help catch whoever is responsible for his father’s death. Like I don’t really like Emery and he’s probably my least favorite witnesses of this season, but sense he is the murder he can also be kinda interesting for that reason.
Susan Fontaine: She’s very sweet and very proficient in her field of work which I respect. She’s actually so sweet that it catches the crew completely off guard, which is pretty funny to watch considering they’re so not used to someone being so agreeable and easy to work with. I think it’s cute how she knows most celebrities because of the interns at her job like it’s just kinda sweet. To me her listening to her interns about casual stuff kinda just shows her caring nature even outside of this case. Also I already said it when talking about Buzz but they’re pretty cute together. Them sitting at Huck E. Heese is adorable. Yeah she’s nice and sweet but I honestly don’t have many thoughts about her outside of that.
Llarm Alasa: My favorite witnesses. He is fashionable for one like the outfit is just great. I completely forgot that he opened it up with the drawing prompt immediately but I kinda love it. It kinda feels like a fun contrast to Dr. Fontaine who gave them all the information up front and then asked for a drawing after just for fun. I don’t know if this was at all intentional but it sure works out nicely with their episodes being back to back. Him just wanting to do something by getting into the drawing challenge dose makes sense though cause as he says he’s been in this room for ever. Also he’s so incredibly tired which again is completely fair considering he’s the last witness and had to just sit in this room for 10 hours. And all this on the same night that one of his best friend died like that sucks so much. He’s so clearly not doing well right now given the whole situation so he tries to distract himself with invention ideas so he doesn’t have to think about it. He basically says this himself. He also brings up how he tends to bury himself in his work to distract from his personal problems which just has me sitting there like bud that’s an awful coping strategy. I’m just glad that at the end of it though the drawtectives give him a new thing for him to think about with whether or not anyone there has been an animatronic the whole time. Also can I just say that his response of “that would be amazing” to that thought is so funny. Like given the witnesses track record you think he would just say it sounds stupid or something but no, to him that idea is cool as hell. It’s just so endearing and speaking of things that make him endearing, I’m great at segways I know, I love him for being a cat owner. Plus it’s a black cat that’s named after something he really enjoys which appeals to me specifically as someone who also has a black cat that was named after something I enjoyed. It is a slight upset that he doesn’t show the crew any cat photos but like he comes around in the end by telling them to follow his Binstagram so I won’t hold it against him. Honestly the only real slight I have against him is that you can not go around picking up obvious murder weapons off the floor my guy. Like do I kinda respect him for not really trusting the bumbling idiots that are the B team cops? Yes. Do I think that could be an interesting thing to think about considering he was Sorin’s close friend and wanting an important piece of evidence to be taken care of properly kinda shows a weird sense of care for him? Also yes. But do I think it was a good move? Absolutely not. At least he eventually trusts to give it to Jancy and the other three. Also I do think he’s mainly trusting Jancy over the drawtectives considering he actively lets out a sigh of relief when she comes in the room. Anyways I’m sorry that I rambled so much about my favorite but I just love him so much he’s literally my favorite witnesses/npc of the entire series.

Ruby's F/o Tournament - FINAL ROUND
Here we are folks, the final match... The explosives-crazed internationally wanted madman and the Mushroom Kingdom's most terrible enemy. My main f/o, versus the first character I ever made a self insert for. It's our most fiery match ever!!
As always, vote however you see fit, whether you like the character more or my ship with them more. Propaganda will be below the cut. May the best f/o win!! 🧡💜🧡
Junkrat
From anonymous: as a certified junkrat roleplayer i GOTTA go to bat for my boy. He’s like if you made looney tunes as a concept into a person. Autism dialed to 100. I dont care if he’s a criminal he’s a sweetheart. also i think you’d enjoy this tidbit i’ve had him say: “It’s *Junkrat,* thank you very much! I picked that name out meself! Mum didn’t let me make it my legal name, though. Said it’s bad for rez-ew-mes. Jokes on her, I ain’t held a single legal job in all my life. An’ I think Junkrat is very respectable! Makes my interests obvious. I like junkin’, an’ I like rats. Simple!”
From anonymous: Jamie is the most iconic of all! In my mind no one is more synonymous with your blog and your ships and its the first one I fell in love with
From @shipsashore: For the time I've followed your blog, I knew you as Junkrat's lover. Absolutely iconic couple here. Giving my vote to your silly trash husband.
Bowser
From @edencantstopfallininlove: Bowser has the raaaaange. He can go from silly and affable in one moment to ruthless and intimidating in the next. He can BREATHE FIRE for frick's sake. Also a good dad! In the words of the King of the Koopas himself, "Losing is not an option! And neither is giving up!"
From @shipsashore: Not voting for Bowser but I just wanna say yall are still an iconic couple. :)
Notes from Ruby
I'm writing down here because I don't want to put a bias for either of my guys. Sure, Jamie is my main f/o, but Bowser is also my very first, from back when I was only 10 years old and didn't have all these terms for it. He's the first one I ever drew self ship and self insert art for, who I came up with a story for. He means a lot to me and I still love him to this day. On the other hand, Jamie is my main, he's the only f/o I've officially done a wedding for, and sunk countless hours (and dollars) into loving him. This match is an impossible one for me, one I could never choose between... Here's hoping y'all have an easier time 😅💜🧡💜🧡💜
#ruby's f/o tournament#💜: love burning like the sun#💜: hard shelled softie#self shipping#self ship community#ok to reblog#polls

CME 17x10 thoughts (and prayers)
Jesus Christ I’m finally home after accidentally sabotaging my own morning (okay sabotage may be harsh. I have a job now that I signed all the necessarily paperwork lol but I had to go around the city for hours. This Pacific time Midnight airtime is ridiculous, that’s 9 am for me. By then I usually have to pretend to be a functioning adult human being).
I don’t really do this usually, but it is the finale, so. I will try my hand and liveblogging. This will be long.
Some preliminary thoughts though:
I think Church and Jade both survive and it’s Mila who dies
I just don’t see any of the main cast dying. Maybe Rossi, but this show is attached to its actors so much that this would only happen if Joe wanted out, and I’m not sure I can see that happening?
the last Gold Star Peter B. is most probably Peter Bailey
I don’t trust Phil Coulson the Director
Voit has to die. I think. Narratively he just can’t live. So my guess is that he will be killed (maybe on FBI higher up orders) and it will be framed as a suicide. But the BAU would obvious know that doesn’t match his profile cue S18
Well then.
55 minutes hmm, okay. I thought we would get at least an hour, there’s so much going on.
Connection Lost. For all of them??
20 minutes Rebecca and Garcia has been sitting in that office, waiting. That does wonders for someone’s nerves I bet
needs to reboot the system (“have you tried turning it off and on again?” xd)
I’M sorry they didn’t know the building just fucking exploded? xdxd
also still Minimal Loss vibes
okay but everyone seemed fine on the promo pics (minus Emily) so how if they all exploded
I don’t buy it lol
halluciVoit is back
the team is okay
okay see. how lucky do you have to be though to survive an explosion without a scratch
unless they pull a Dallas and the next 30 minutes is just Dave dying and dreaming shit lol that would be iconic
okay Mila surrendered maybe she’s not dying. But how does Rossi get rid of the head wound?
oooh okay so it is a kidnapping situation. Because Jade still thinks the BAU is in cahoots with Church
“you’ve been charged with pedophilia” love that we are not sugarcoating it lol
OKAY so I didn’t think it would be so abrupt. But okay dude deserved it.
Ooh the shot of the dripping blood as he’s carted away? Brilliant.
are we about to see Emily get yeeted
that was a very mild blast without the sound effects lol
are you taking some of the voltage? that’s..a choice. I’m also unsure if that would even work
again with the camera, literally shaking off the memory how cool
listen I know we are supposed to be scared for Emily but it’s Emily. Not even she looks phased lol
holy shit the writing remembers past events. Unbelievable
okay I was recently talking about Person of Interest so that’s probably why the scene is in my mind, but whoever knows about it: This is straight up Vigilance and Control in the mock trial in S3
okay so since Peter B. is most definitely Bailey I’m guessing that’s how Emily will eventually get through to them? By the fact the she knew Doug?
criminal mastermind Brian Garrity reveal when
are you serious? that’s a prison? That’s a vacation home. I've slept in worse places that I paid for
HE HAS A MICROWAVE?
is this actually a thing in America? Okay not my business but damn
“the only thing I miss is you” VoitxRossi is sailing
yes it’s definitely Doug’s brother
yeeah
see that’s a problem because I’m pretty sure Emily holds herself responsible too xd
“does this body language tell you anything” yeah that you’re a fucker
lil bro kinda low key looks like a young Jonathan Groff
so where were you at the funeral? flashback to Emily meeting the parents but not him I’m guessing?
okay flashback but not about that
“really?” “No,” xdxdxdxdx pls. yes. thank you. OG moment. God. Love that
“You scream only child.” Emily. You’re an only child.
"I have a sister" No you don’t. Where did that come from.
Okay was she manipulating him or did they just drop this out of nowhere breaking 17 seasons of previous lore because both are a legitimate possibility.
“why weren’t you at Doug’s funeral” thank you
yeah see I like that this is coming back. Because the DOJ really dropped the ball on Benjamin Reeves
all that said Clark Gregg is still suspicious
so the teenager who is rebellious and anti-government gets into juvie where the government paid private military company trains him to be an assassin through abuse. Nice job there xd
“I’m not threatening your career” love the energy
you literally didn’t have to keep any of that from the BAU though.
THAT’s when you knew you had a crisis? Bruh
“a pilates instructor” xdxd Rebecca’s wit is underappreciated tbh
“he may or may not have information” “fuck you” 💀
are we having a discussion about the real life confines of four dimensional chess. My guy that’s a meme.
Aww JJ basically admitting they are going to get fucked over but hey it’s Emily, they gotta
“he wanted to wear comfy clothes” this bitch.
“back at it like a crack addict” you know what I retroactively would like to witness the birth of lines like this in the writer’s room
I mean yeah sure but child trafficking does exist tho xd
okay they are cute…
“god forbid you end up on that wall” uff.
aaah you were taking the photos. But who were the guys working for you? I was absolutely sure it was Church. He had the resources, you don’t
see this is where the conspiracy theory conversations become a bit funny, because Emily is completely right, they are about amplification of fear, doubt etc. Also they help reconcile with events that we can’t make logical sense of. It’s honestly an incredibly human thing to do and they have always been around, they are not new.
That said when you introduce shit like the FBI or the CIA a lot of things that used to be “conspiracy theories” have since been reveled to have been true 💀 so people being distrustful towards these organizations are not that unreasonable when you think about it. And even in-universe the BAU has done shady shit? So.
“babe” xdxd okay so maybe Jade is dying. They have built her up to be sympathetic but they are slowly losing that angle narratively? Slowly tho
oh? is that how we’ll get to the bottom of BAUgate?
“Jenny”. can JJ slap him, just once?
the way everyone is so done with him
sometimes I do like Tyler
bit of a CGI house there lol
not Garcia psyching him out
chocolate thunder
oh, Oh?
“I put you in” I?. I??
oh my god. no. that’s vile. even within an already vile context. people have been pointing out the similarities but jesus christ
okay Emily is doing talk no jutsu about Doug
told you she does feel responsible
oooh. oh.
where do people buy so much C4
(hypothetically of course)
yeah I mean obviously not going to happen. But I get the plan there
also the team either knows that’s the endgame of they are just being very optimistic about Emily still being alive lol
of course it’s a trap. Was that really such a big revelation Dave xd
“who think we are the enemy” Tara. Babe. You kind of are to them xd
okay maybe they will survive this. Or Pete might. Jade could still kill herself. Or each other.
yeah she knows 😭
Radiohead?
passive aggressive action report
thank you for calling him out on this
no I still don’t trust Clark Gregg
is Emily going to low key blackmail the Director xd that would be very stupid. And also incredibly in character
yeah they have pretty much said it before that Tyler would be the “next generation”
“Hooray you’re alive” xd
Rebecca just got a haircut? She looks nice. But how much time had passed then.
“the shoes” 💀 that’s so fair
oh his “ghost” just standing in the bg
okay so he either escapes, in which case the showrunners completely lied about leaving him behind in S18 lol or he dies. Maybe he gets shanked. A girl can dream
I was joking xdxdxdx 💀
uff not the bleach
oh my god he really got shanked. holy shit
I mean yes thank you
but holy shit
so we have zero idea on what happens in S18. Zero. that’s nice.
Okay, closing thoughts. It was a good episode, but a bit underwhelming on the conspiracy side of things? And as a finale? I mean they kept saying how it’s “bigger than we thought” but it really wasn’t? Also it kind of takes away from the suspense that we know none of these characters are ever dying lol But ultimately it did close off loose ends. But I really would have appreciated some implication that Voit was killed on someone’s orders to continue some kind of a plot thread? Realistically the writers probably haven’t decided on that yet lol Did like that we acknowledged that the Gold Star kids were victims but…at the end of the day who was the perpetrator?
No, I still don’t trust Clark Gregg. Also can we get back to Emily having a sister what is that about

TOH’s Goncharov Reference?
All right, so you know that rabbit hole I mentioned earlier about Katya TOH and Katya Goncharov having similarities, to the point that the former may very well be a reference to the latter from Goncharov? Screw it, let me put forth what I’ve noticed;
Firstly, there’s the obvious shared name; But there’s also Katya TOH’s choice of palisman, a rhinoceros beetle, which resembles a bejeweled one that Katya Goncharov has in her jewelry collection. It’s an admittedly obscure blink-and-you’ll-miss-it set piece, but also kind of a specific coincidence, since Katya Goncharov doesn’t have anything else fashioned after the likeness of an animal, much less one as uncommon in jewelry as a rhinoceros beetle (which I, personally, feel is underlooked in regards to symbolism).
During the iconic market stall scene, Katya and Sofia discuss the apple and pomegranate, with the former seen as representative to Katya, and vice-versa. The two swap fruits between their hands, which we all agree is them offering both their soul and enticing seduction to the other; So not only are the two represented by produce, but the scene ends with the apple and pomegranate placed in the same basket... Could this have inspired Katya TOH’s hobby of writing food falling in love with each other? And how she was arrested for this, which could mirror Katya Goncharov’s sapphic love being criminalized?
(If so, then Katya TOH helping Luz make it to her girlfriend Amity, held captive by Abomatons and Covenscouts, is almost tragic; Like the original Katya Goncharov couldn’t make it to Sofia past the rival gang, but she can ensure that another pair of star-crossed WLW get the happiness they yearn for.)
Then we have Katya from both stories being a criminal working underground, with Katya TOH even escaping the authorities and finding refuge at a beach, similar to how Katya Goncharov enters the beach through a pipe in the lead up to the climactic boat scene; Both entering the sewers to do so via manhole! Plus, a lot of Katya (Goncharov)’s character is about cyclical tragedy; The more things change, the more they frustratingly stay the same.
We learn from Goncharov himself that Katya escaped to Naples partially to avoid the ramifications of her past life coming back to haunt her; Especially her brief time in prison, which reminds me a lot of Katya TOH being introduced to us in the Conformatorium. Massimo’s threat of having her past life exposed also plays a role in Katya’s mission to assassinate Andrey, with Katya having to once more flee to another city at the end of the film (just as she fled to Naples at the start); Reminiscent of how Katya TOH laments “Not again!” when she’s returned to the Conformatorium. Both characters have experience with prison and dread returning to it, although only Katya TOH has to revisit that.
Not to mention, this innocuous little bit between Derwin and Katya, which seems to mirror the scene in which Katya carries an injured Sofia away from the shootout;
(Does this make Katya/Derwin canon? Am I gonna have to analyze similarities between Derwin and Sofia...?)
Keep in mind, we didn’t learn Katya’s name until S2, which does make me wonder if she was always intended to be a reference to the character from Goncharov, or if it just sorta happened as the crew wrote Eda’s Requiem and they realized the stuff that had already been set in place in the first episode; But some of that stuff, particularly the food fanfiction, does seem a bit too perfect of a match to have not been planned from the start.
Especially since Katya is conspicuously absent from any background shots, unlike her fellow prisoners Tinella Nosa and the Plant Witch who eats his Eyeballs; And they couldn’t have written Katya’s role in S2 in response to fan popularity, since S1 was written prior to audience reception. Which makes it seem as if they singled Katya out to be absent totally independent of the fandom’s treatment of her, ergo she was always meant to be a rebel; Ergo, Fanfic Witch was always meant to be a Goncharov reference.
We’ve already had Flora D’esplora, who’s a blatant Dora the Explorer reference and despite being a joke character, fulfills multiple purposes to the story in her debut. A brief, recurring side-character being a reference a Scorsese film might not be THAT out of the question, but I can see how it’s a stretch... At the very least, it makes me motivated to HC a lot of Katya TOH’s backstory as having parallels to Katya Goncharov; And both characters having a gun from the start would certainly make their stories a lot shorter. I hope this doesn’t foreshadow anything grim for Katya in S3. Also, I now want to see fanart of Katya TOH in Katya Goncharov’s attire... And vice-versa???

My thoughts while watching It (1990) for the first time
Holy shit grown up Eddie is hot
This grown Ben’s backstory doesn’t match the book or the other movie??
the fade in and out transitions are giving criminal minds honestly
I didn’t understand Hanbrough until watching this but that scene with the bike has changed my perspective
Bev and Richie are totally best friends here I see it now
No old lady kersh scene can beat the one from 2019- I’m sorry but the freaky movements and laughable big woman can’t be beat
Eddie x that one worker that he leaves behind that just stands there after driving him to the train station
Eddie totally still checks Ben out at Jade Oriental glad that is still a thing
I am glad Mike is more relevant in this movie
Beep Beep Richie
I don’t think I understand Bev in this movie but that isn’t a bad thing
Richie is still a gay icon
Damn Eddie is fine
Why did they give Bill a ponytail- honest question
Not the soft hair touches Richie gives Eddie ong
They did Stan dirty once again
This movie is fucking long
Eddie Spaghetti
Sorry this is a long as post it isn’t even all of them this movie is fuckin long

okay, yeah, barton is a bad guy — that is pretty much a given but what if i told y'all that i got this image of him in my head of him dressed up in matching tuxedos with matilda and them just. attending a masquerade gala as part of some plot to get close to someone and actually not committing any atrocities, but they do do one small little... victimless crime near the end of it which might be Uh. Stealing some rich guys car on the way out or something and flipping him off as they drive off with it, laughing all the way, and it's honestly kind of funny in a bad way because WOW are they bold and perhapsss dare i say it's a little iconic because of the matching tux's + i just imagined them peeling out of the place in the poor guys car like why did they have to do him like that??
i mean it's obviously NOT Good that barton stole that guys car but he actually didn't hurt anyone and stealing the car wasn't even planned. it was just a spur of the moment decision, like i can just imagine them having this completely non-verbal exchange with their eyes once they see this SUPER expensive car in front of the place. because matilda just gets wide eyed like 'OOH, that is niceee' and barton just looks back at her like 'wanna steal it?' and of course she says 'yes, obviously,' like LMAOO idk i just thought it was kind of a nice deviance from the norm for them and they're bonding. criminally, mind you, but still bonding JSJSJ
#OF MONSTERS AND MEN: musings.#ahh... see i told y'all that i would deliver with the fluff didn't i? / j LOL no but idk why this popped up in my head but i just had to-#post it on here bc barton actually not hurting anyone like i said here and only doing something for the mischief of it is. i hate to say it#but it may be KIND of iconic like i said in this little drabble of mine. plusss i can just imagine the convo they had in the car being some#thing like ' hey sooo how long do you think he's going to go without getting another car to replace this one? ' and barton is just like#' HM good question. i'll give him about a week ' and matilda is just like ' oh? you wanna bet on that? because i think he'll get a new one#TOMORROW ' and then suddenly they're making a bet over when this random guy is going to buy another car bc they assume he is and whenever#one of them is proven wrong ( probably barton in this case TBH ) he is just such a sore loser about it but in an amusing way like he's#acting like he's physically pained by it and it's like JSJSJ he really does have the capacity to be funny in a non-mean way sometimes#he just doesn't want to a majority of the time because he's him ☠️ but yeahhh i hope you guys liked this little ramble of mine LOL

Boogie Down Productions - Criminal Minded
The story of Boogie Down Productions is necessarily a two part story. I'm not sure if the follow up album By All Means Necessary is on this list. It should be. In 1987 only a few months after releasing this album DJ Scott La Rock was killed in a shooting while trying to break up a fight. Criminal Minded is typically seen as the first gangsta rap album. It introduced the exaggerated kayfabe of kids with guns shooting each other over Petty squabbles over which borough is best. BDPs second album By All Means Necessary is a stark stripped down album with serious lyrics about inner city violence and other socially conscious themes. Scott La Rock's fingerprints are all over both albums in very different ways. Criminal Minded is full of camp bravado and the beats are matched to that energy. A little cheesy and a lot of heart La Rock chooses samples that keep the mood light despite the violent subject matter. And both La $ock and KRS-One will often devolve into silly little riffs on completely random songs (Hey Jude by The Beatles and It's Still Rock And Roll To Me by Billy Joel). It's a light and cheesy album that still shows off frank depictions of life in the Bronx while also ahowcasing the talents of KRS-ONE, D Nice, and of course DJ Scott La Rock.
Kraftwerk - Trans-Europe Express
By the time Kraftwerk hit the scene electronic music had already existed for decades. But before Kraftwerk it was mainly the realm of experimental mavericks and there was little commercial interest outside of a few oddities. With Trans-Europe Express Kraftwerk found themselves refining their sound in a more ambient and minimal direction. Tracks average six minutes a pop and feature rolling soundscapes of mechanical synths. The songs take more influence from minimalist composers and feature melodic ideas that slowly evolve over a long run time. It's an amazing album although it definitely overshadowed by the follow up album The Man-Machine which makes this one look like a warmup.
Willie Nelson - Red Headed Stranger
This was Willie Nelson's eighteenth album, but the first where he had full creative control. The result is a sparsely arranged concept album about a man trying to get away with the murder of his wife and her lover. The use of perfectly placed covers of country classics interspersed with original numbers to tell a coherent story is incredibly well done. And the stark instrumentation makes every single note feel significant. Every sorrowful guitar solo and walking bass line communicates as much story and emotion as the lyrics themselves. This is one of the greatest masterpieces in all of country music.
Daft Punk - Discovery
Where Daft Punk's debut Homework featured very traditional Chicago style House music Discovery evolved the sound into something completely new. The rigid mechanical grooves are replaced with a new, softer sound influenced by pop and R&B. Naturally fans of their first record hated it. In fact hating the newest Daft Punk record is kind of a tradition in the fandom. The instant commercial hits that were One More Time and Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger are well known but the album is loaded with catchy enjoyable tracks from start to finish. Whether it's the buzzsaw arpeggios of Aerodynamic or the slow balladry of Something About Us, the albums deep.cuts hit just as hard as the hits. Not to mention Too Long, my favorite Daft Punk song, which is a sprawling ten minute prog house epic.
Metallica - s/t (the black album)
After riding high as one of the greatest thrash acts of all time Metallica finally hit the mainstream by putting out one of the most tedious and boring pieces of shit imaginable. Yeah Enter Sandman has a pretty iconic riff, well one good song doesn't make a good album. Literally everything after that sucks and it's the opening track. The album is a slow plodding mess that is constantly on the verge of becoming the thrash metal version of a Cinderella ballad. And let's not forget the overtly libertarian song Don't Tread On Me! Fuck this cringe ass album. I scooped the cat box right after listening to this and I'd rate that as a better experience than listening to the black album.
Black Sabbath - Master Of Reality
Master Of Reality provides the blueprint for all slow, sludge, stoner, and doom metal to come. The guitar and bass are down tuned and the sound is chuggy which hugely influenced later bands looking to make their sound heavier. The opener, Sweet Leaf is the original stoner metal song. And the acoustic interludes, Embryo and Orchid are definitely echoed in the slow acoustic intros to a million death metal songs.
Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes
Tori Amos seems to be working through some emotional baggage here, but my god is it the most overwrought garbage I've ever heard. Plodding piano ballads come one after another only occasionally pausing to become interesting. Little Earthquakes wants to be meaningful so very badly. It wants to be Hounds Of Love so very badly. But where Kate Bush can craft evocative beautiful music and lyrics Tori Amos produces melodramatic piano ballads and lyrics that feel like chatgpt trained on Kate Bush songs. I'm gonna say it again just to be mean: listen to Kate Bush instead.
John Coltrane - Giant Steps
After an iconoc tenure in most of Miles Davis' groups in the 50s saxophone legend John Coltrane set out as a solo artist. Giant Steps wasn't his first outing as a bandleader but it was the one that cemented him as the jazz artist of the 60s. The performances are monstrous here super special credit goes to Paul Chambers on bass for not just being able to keep up but for doing it with flair. The real thing about this album though is the chord changes. Coltrane pioneered a series of chord changes that used third intervals to keep the root of the chords equidistant from each other resulting in a loss of tonal center. The songs rapidly change keys and wind up being famously difficult to improv over, and that's before the frenetic pace of many of the songs comes into play. You may not understand any of what I just said, but trust me your brain can hear the effects. It's beautifully disorienting and you have no choice but to give in to Coltrane's whims, trusting that he knows where it's going

I asked ChatGPT to write an essay on why Professor Layton and Detective Gumshoe would make a good couple. This was the result:
Layton & Gumshoe: Ideal Couple

Write an essay on why Hershel Layton and Dick Gumshoe would be a good couple
ChatGPT
Title: An Unlikely Pair: Hershel Layton and Dick Gumshoe as an Ideal Couple
Introduction: In the world of video games, there are numerous iconic characters who capture our hearts and minds. Among them are Professor Hershel Layton, a brilliant puzzle-solving gentleman, and Detective Dick Gumshoe, a lovable but somewhat bumbling investigator. While they may seem like an unlikely couple at first glance, it is precisely their contrasting qualities that make Hershel Layton and Dick Gumshoe an excellent match. This essay will explore the unique traits of these characters and how their compatibility and shared experiences make them an ideal couple.
Complementary Personalities: Hershel Layton and Dick Gumshoe possess personalities that perfectly complement one another. Layton's intelligence and deductive reasoning skills are renowned, while Gumshoe's persistence and unwavering loyalty add a touch of charm to the partnership. Layton's calm and collected demeanor balances Gumshoe's more emotional and impulsive nature. They bring out the best in each other, with Layton encouraging Gumshoe's growth and Gumshoe providing emotional support to Layton during difficult times. Their differences create a harmonious synergy that strengthens their bond.
Shared Professional Background: Both Layton and Gumshoe share a common passion for solving mysteries and seeking justice. Layton, as a renowned archaeology professor, uses his intellect to uncover ancient secrets, while Gumshoe, as a seasoned detective, navigates the intricate web of criminal investigations. Their shared professional background allows them to connect on a deep level, understanding the challenges and triumphs that come with their respective careers. They appreciate each other's work and can provide valuable insights and assistance when necessary.
Mutual Respect and Support: One of the key ingredients for a successful relationship is mutual respect, and Layton and Gumshoe exhibit a deep admiration for each other. Layton recognizes Gumshoe's dedication to his job and values his unwavering commitment to justice. In turn, Gumshoe greatly admires Layton's intellect and appreciates the support and guidance he receives from him. Their respect for one another creates a strong foundation for their relationship, fostering trust and understanding.
Shared Adventures: Throughout their respective game series, Layton and Gumshoe embark on countless adventures, often finding themselves in precarious situations. These shared experiences build a unique bond between them, as they rely on each other for assistance and guidance. Facing challenges together strengthens their connection and fosters a sense of camaraderie. Their adventures create memories and stories that they can share, reinforcing their emotional connection and creating a deeper sense of intimacy.
Humor and Light-heartedness: While Layton is known for his gentlemanly demeanor and reserved nature, Gumshoe's endearing clumsiness and comic relief add a lighthearted element to their relationship. Gumshoe's infectious humor brings out Layton's more relaxed side, allowing them to enjoy moments of laughter and joy together. Their ability to find humor in even the most challenging situations helps alleviate tension and creates a positive atmosphere in their relationship.
Conclusion: While Hershel Layton and Dick Gumshoe may initially appear as an unexpected pairing, their distinct personalities, shared professional background, mutual respect, and shared adventures make them an ideal couple. Their complementary traits, combined with a deep emotional connection and a sense of humor, create a relationship that is both supportive and fulfilling. Layton and Gumshoe serve as a testament to the notion that love can transcend conventional expectations and that true compatibility can arise from the unlikeliest of sources.

anniv3 card liveblog dump. updated as i go. spoiler warning!
luke
i’m gone TT (it’s actually all still pretty fluffy and sweet. barely a hint of angst)
YEAHHHHHHHHHH HIGH SCHOOL!ROSA MY BELOVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (ah i forgot to show you guys her new outfit in this card, she’s v cute, i’ll screenshot after this flashback scene)
agh. this expression. always so cute TT rosa it is an honor to be able to play as you 🫡
a;dlfjadkl okay i know the card wasn’t hitting (yet) but like. now with the new bgm i’m really feeling something :’) perhaps we will be budgeting for anniv3 after all
HADFJA;LDKJF;LAKJERLAJLEKRJAKLE
omg poetry reference. truly the bread and butter of this blog’s analyses
ok the interactions: i mean, they’re nice. the animation is very fluid and there’s definitely more motion and more variety than in normal card art animations (though those have been advancing over the years too!) lol i think the knowledge of how purely-fanservicey this is kinda limits how excited i get over this part
overall: i mean it’s a good card but doesn’t make me lose my mind over it like luke’s previous anniversary cards; like this is closer to the caliber of a birthday or top-up card. nothing necessarily bad about it but... i think the most emotion i felt was because the combination of a new bgm (or at least new to me) + high school era lukerosa which i have a soft spot for.
anyway. off to watch vyn’s, which is my last hope for this anniversary really delivering on the card stories :’) also based on my quick glance at his interaction video they might have fixed the piano keys...?? BIG if true
ahhh almost forgot the keepsake!!
BIGHEAD ROSA!!! ahh i was wanting to draw her but mhy beat me to it lol
vyn
omg already >100 comments on his video. yes. my brethren. we are all broke and watching the video instead of getting the card 🤝
55 other people are watching the video literally right now. hell yeah
omg. they really did fix the piano keys XDDDDDDD
me trying to zoom in on the sheet music. LET ME PLAY IT
wow. reference to a very famous and iconic vyn card moment in this story. hint it has to do with water
what the fuck dude extreme weather even showing up in the tot cards TTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
whoaaaa okay worldbuilding: svart has its own language i guess? there are labels written in it, and the narrative calls it svart language and not like english or french or whatever
i think a fun thing about backgrounds being reused is that everyone probably has different scenes that they most strongly associate each background with. for me, this is the winery from food for thought. vyn infodumping about how to cultivate wine grapes. mixing wine with sprite. that’s MY reference to a previous vyn card for this story
VYN HAD HIS MOTHER SEND OVER THE PIANO FROM HIS CONFESSION AS THEIR MOVING IN GIFT????????????
VYN WROTE THE SHEET MUSIC!! NEON MELODY CALLBACK????? (HUGE WIN FOR ME PERSONALLY)
ok only halfway through the card rn but i Need to sleep. back tmrw to finish this and to watch marius’s (even though i’ve barely seen any of this recent cards... whoops)
WAAAAAAAAIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT HOLY SHIT THIS FUCKS SO HARD ACTUALLY??? THIS REFERENCE THEY’RE DOING?? WITHOUT STATING IT OPENLY AAAAAAHHHH THIS IS SO POWERFUL TTT
ok here’s vyn’s illustration. wet rain-soaked little meow meow
rosa forgetting about the instant noodles she’s cooking. just like me fr
hmmmm kinda criminal that they’re supposed to be playing piano here and the bgm is one of the ones that DOESN’T have piano
ok yeah they definitely fixed the piano keys. just compare this to the original anniversary PV you’ll see. NOW FIX THE SSS CARD SYSTEM NEXT
one comment saying the sheet music is liebestraum which i was kinda also suspecting since structure is very similar but some of the measures don’t match up exactly (at least not against the copy of sheet music i have). however, the section behind vyn’s right shoulder is pretty much measure 25 and the part behind his left shoulder is close to m35-36. (which... is not a song that vyn wrote xDDD we’ll say he’s alluding to or remixing it for their purposes)
you’re telling me his hand accidentally hits the piano and there’s a “pleasing sound”??? he’s falling backwards onto it and playing chords???
ok back to checking the sheet music (my priorities are exactly where they should be)
i think the two sheets here (behind his left shoulder and under his left hand) are the same page (which we said before was m35-36). it’s the only place in the song where the key signature change looks like that (in the upper right; it’s definitely the sharps pattern and not the flats) and the following sections match as well. so i think that pages goes like this:
line 1: m34-36 (and key change where five sharps are made natural)
line 2: m37-m39
line 3: m40-m42
line 4: m43-44 (not sure if that last note should have a slur tho)
it was kind of throwing me off earlier since some of the chords that would be octaves didn’t seem far apart enough on the card art, but maybe it’s a combo of perspective + shrunk down + artistic license
ok i can’t rly find a keepsake investigation video yet and i’m still just watching the interaction in the bg but this card is fine. i know i got really excited at one point but it’s because i’m especially interested in the plant motif (still have not fully stated what the exact reference was bc i’m sure i’ll point it out later). so far the cards feel like nice top-up cards (since those always make sure to have spicy/fanservice-y parts) that are trying hard to reference previous events. i checked the comments of BOTH vyn and marius videos and there was someone (different people!) asking which of the cards had a better story (because what they’d seen so far was disappointing).... does NOT bode well ufnfortunately
edit: i will say that these even feel a bit worse than top-up cards since those usually try to grapple with substantive potential issues in the relationship, while these anniv3 cards don’t. also still haven’t watched marius’s yet but yamashina jin just translated artem’s card and even she’s disappointed by the writing quality so like... widespread disappointment i suppose 😔
marius
ok yeah this is a very good continuation/evolution of the idea from tideborne romance. unfortunately i was also meh on that card
omg... marius is gonna make himself the present isn’t he....
OKAY THERE’S AT LEAST ONE (1) THING I LOVE ABOUT THIS CARD 🥺🥺 (doesn’t even get a mention in the story it’s just a visual easter egg in the bg)
artem
halfway through pt 2 and i’ve figured out how to describe how i’m feeling. you remember marius’s 1st birthday card when they were just kinda doing random things to fill up time in the plot? it’s kinda like that. (though it doesn’t have the weird ooc-ness of that card and it’s not as long)
the bear from his bday event and the eyemask from wandering heart!! actually maybe my favorite part of these cards will just be the little easter eggs in them
ok so after the “reveal” of what artem is Actually up to, i do like the card more. i really like what his true plan, i just kind of dislike how MC is kept in the dark again. it’s not even bad this time around, like it’s very much a cute surprise between lovers, but i think that stuff in his engagement left a bad taste in my mouth about it and i didn’t want to see it again lol. also, i feel like it would have been cute if mc was the one to propose moving in together (just a random thought since for all the these, it was p much the LI bringing it up)
ok this is one of the better illustrations for anniv3 cards tho.
alright. finished the card. umm nothing more to say xDDD
on the keepsakes tho; these genuinely fuck so hard. also artem's a protective charm from cloudbreak temple and red beans and he recites The Lines again.... literally why can’t we have this kind of energy in the actual card story TTTTT

Round 2 is in the Queue!
All right, everyone! I've got all the entries for round two ready, they're in the queue, and they'll be live on Monday. We've got nine rounds this time, and I'll get them all linked in this post as soon as they're live.
New Contestants in Round 2:
Since it was specifically requested, Riddler (Gorshin) will be get the third open slot. So in round three, that's when we'll bring in Penguin, Joker, and Catwoman (Kitt). I am still featuring her even though she won the Catwoman competition, since I need her to make an even number in round 3, but also because she should still get to have her own trivia blurbs.
Apologies in advance for the lack of new trivia on some of the entries. I overestimated how much would be available and thus I used all of it in the first round.
Again, propaganda is allowed, so have fun, go wild! Just don't harass people.
Second Chance Bracket:
At this point, I am leaning towards compiling the second chance bracket following round three. I'm going to see how many total contestants we have for this before I decide for sure how many matches and rounds that will be. Probably those rounds won't have any trivia since there likely will be more than two characters per match-up and for many of them, there's a chance I won't have anything new for them. If I do have any that didn't get used, that character's trivia will be in a separate post.
All Round 2 Matches:
