Blaine’s Transfer To McKinley
Tumblr media
One of the more disliked? plot points in Glee is Blaine’s transfer to McKinley. However, it’s always been silly to me that people think this plot made “no sense”, especially from Blaine fans who think Blaine transferring to McKinley meant Blaine was constantly having to relive the trauma from his previous experience in public school and Kurt was inconsiderate for making him transfer.
Don’t get me wrong: He definitely transferred to be with Kurt, and I have no doubt in my mind Kurt was being annoying as hell about it all summer given the scene of him being (playfully) passive aggressive over Blaine still going to Dalton (which makes his whole “pls don’t tell me you transferred for me because what if u resent me 🥺” even funnier lmao oh Kurt). And I also think him transferring in the middle of the episode aka nearly a week into the school year was supposed to show that Kurt was pressuring him. But I also do kind of chalk that up to the fact that The Purple Piano Project was incredibly badly written and they chose the worst possible ways to deliver information, like setting up Juilliard for Hummelberry just to explain to us NYADA a scene later like…! IMO, they could have kept that scene of Klaine in the Lima Bean, like I’m not saying they should take Kurt’s involvement in the decision completely away, but it should have been one of the very first scenes so Blaine could have been there from day 1. But omg all of this is besides the point let me move on…
However! To act as if it was not ultimately Blaine’s decision, and one he’s wanted to make for a while, is missing a huge part of his character. Not only that, I don’t understand how so many people miss this when it’s quite literally one of the very first things Blaine ever says in the show.
In Never Been Kissed, Blaine tells Kurt “I ran, Kurt. I didn’t stand up. I let bullies chase me away and it’s something I really, really regret.”
It’s literally the main thing we are introduced to his character with. Blaine is someone who wants to face his fears, in this case public school, he just hasn’t had an opportunity to do so.
Tumblr media
The entire Dalton arc is symbolized by Pavarotti’s cage which comes up several times during season 2, and in Special Education the show frames Dalton as a place that doesn’t foster individuality (even though I think that plot point was uhh badly written because it was as if the writers seemed to forget why Kurt left McKinley in the first place…all of Kurt’s complaints about Dalton applied to McKinley too, but were supposed to forget about it because over on the McKinley side, Mr. Schue chose Fabrevans and Santana for the competition for once. but also all of this is besides the point too!), and the reason why Blaine falls in love with Kurt in the first place is because of Kurt’s independence and need for freedom despite the difficulties he faced, symbolized by him sing Black Bird. Despite the fact that I don’t particularly agree with this sentiment that a safe place like Dalton is “running away”, I think most people know going from a rich private school with no bullying to a shitty public school with tons of it is a massive downgrade, the show makes it abundantly clear that Dalton is not a place where Kurt or Blaine are meant to stay.
So, even logistics aside (because obviously as he was upgraded to a main character, he had to be with the rest of the characters more often which means he had to go to the same school, it’s really not much deeper than that), the show already set up that Blaine wanted to be free from a place like Dalton. Even in Original Song, we get the hint that Blaine is tired of his easy life in the Warblers where he gets all the solos and in Silly Love Songs he compares them to privileged, porcelain birds. To make it seem as if Blaine being at McKinley was traumatic for him or he had 0 choice in the matter and was doing it solely for Kurt is, imo, disingenuous and misses part of his character that gives him his own agency.
And yes I’m saying all of this acknowledging Blaine’s whole “I changed SCHOOLS FOR YOU 😫” thing, because I think it all can be true at once:
Blaine transferred to be with Kurt.
Blaine transferred because it’s something he’s wanted to do.
Blaine had no problem holding it over Kurt’s head when he wanted to.
I feel like none of that is contradictory to each other (or, even if it is hypocritical, it’s hypocritical in a way real people are). People are messy! They can have multiple reasons for doing what they do, and sometimes even when it’s their decision to make, they can still blame another other person for them. (And I say this with love but I mean…Blaine isn’t a stranger to blaming Kurt for something he chose to do, right? Moving out…cheating…Perfectly in character if you ask me!)
I feel like this decision doesn’t require that much suspension of disbelief either, Jesse transfers in season 1 for a couple episodes just to mess with Rachel. Yes it’s not realistic, but many aspects of glee are not and this is one of the ones I think was set up before the decision was even made.
And to be honest, I always thought the whole “Blaine should have stayed at Dalton” to be a pretty boring opinion, but when I was rewatching Purple Piano Project recently, Blaine said Kurt was just scared the Warblers were going to beat the New Directions, I couldn’t help but think that would have been soo interesting to see. The mess and drama that would come out of Klaine having to see each other as rivals…especially when you throw Sebastian into the mix…Blaine, who already couldn’t cope with the distance, having to see his boyfriend as the enemy? I would love to visit an alternate universe where that’s the route glee decided to go with.
But I’m sorry I love “I changed SCHOOLS FOR YOU 😫” and, regardless of all the reasons I’ve listed above, the general craziness it spells for Blaine that he’d transfer to a shitty public school to spend one year with his lazy fucking boyfriend (said affectionately) too much to wish it was changed. I love you canon Klaine!

General season 2 opinions. MASSIVE TDI 2023 season 2 spoilers ahead (as well as a huge wall of text.) You've been warned.
Ok, so here's everything I like about the season (I can count them on my fingers)
-There were some funny jokes
-MKulia was entertaining and it's now in my top 5 favorite ships, but it's not perfect, as I'll explain later
-Hockey dudes were a joy to watch I suppose
-Bowie stole the show as usual
-There are a lot of neat challenges (The canoe, slide, and dog challenges was a particular stand outs to me)
-MK herself was really funny
-MacArthur's cameo was a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one, and she bounces off of Chris really well
-Duncney is still broken up lol
Tumblr media
Honestly that's about it in terms of positives, cuz I have a million other negatives for this supposed sequel to (imo) the best written season of the show.
-The Relationships were the single worst aspect about this season full stop. Ripaxel and Praleb are probably the worst couples the show has ever subjected me to. For Ripaxel, they basically removed anything interesting Ripper had going on and Axel wasn't allowed to live up to any kind of hype she created because one lame ass poem turned her into Ripper's girlfriend for the remaining duration of her run, only for the both of them to be tossed aside in episode 7 in perhaps the worst double elimination in the entire show.
-Praleb started off ok. I thought it was gonna be a one-sided crush plot initially before Episode 6. They had a couple cute moments before episode 8, of which their screentime became suffocating because afterwards is was this painful back and forth where Caleb tried explaining himself and Priya would be mad at him, then ally with him, then be mad at him again like it was so tiresome. By the time they got together in the finale again, I was wishing they had just followed up on Pramien instead. Caleb by himself was funny in the first half of season 2 and Priya was great in season 1, but the two of them together were insufferable
-Speaking of Priya, she went from one of the best characters in season 1 to one of the worst in season 2. Why did she have to make it all the way to episode fucking 12 after winning season 1?? Just for some generic heterosexual romance? They also made her so dumb with shit like knowing Julia is manipulating her but then getting a surprise Pikachu face when Julia manipulated her??? You spent your entire life preparing for this show, how the fuck did you not see this coming???
-Segwayying into Julia, she's the worst antagonist full stop. I've never seen such an absolute downgrade of a character. She was a goat in season 1 who was aware of her situation and acted accordingly because the stakes were real. Here? Reality basically warps around her just to keep her in the game. She does things characters would never fall for in season 1 and they just go with it?? They insist on keeping her in the finale and do basically nothing interesting with her. She's not even as funny as Island Heather at the end of the day.
-I mentioned MKulia earlier, so I'll just get to it here: I like it in concept. Two evil sapphics causing chaos together is really fun. My main issue is that it was very sudden. They both were not fans of each other at the end of season 1 and now I'm supposed to just believe they became friends off screen? I mean, I guess, but it's kinda cheap. I would have really liked it if it was straight up enemies to lovers ngl. Also the fact MK had very little agency outside of being Julia's lackey doesn't help either. I want to point to the fake contract thing, for instance. Why did Julia do that? That sounds like an MK thing to do.
-Time to dive into other characters: Damien is an absolute fucking tragedy. At the end of season 1, Damien had one ambition: win next season. They kinda did that, sure, but they regressed Damien into being a complete coward to do so, not to mention he didn't even go all the way either. Damien didn't get a W until episode 6 and tbh that was his only W. By the end of his tenure, I was left confused on what the point of his run was. (I'll come back to this later.)
-What was the point of Nichelle? Like seriously, what did she contribute to the season at all? They didn't do the ironic underdog story with her, and considering she was getting all egotistical and aggressive, i thought she was gonna be the antagonist for sure...until Julia got rid of her in episode 5 in a way that really shouldn't make sense cuz like Nichelle is an actual celebrity that stars in blockbuster movies, I'm pretty sure she could sniff a fake contract a mile away, right?
-Hockey dudes were great, but I felt like they were very dumbed down at times? Like they were just generic dumb dudes that just meandered around a lot of the time (Wayne in particular just straight up floated away from a challenge at one point)
-Bowie was alright too. His line delivery is great as usual, but let's not kid ourselves: In a well written season, he'd be going straight for Julia the next time his team lost. Bowraj was nice to see even if the season didn't really do a whole lot with it
-Am I the only one who thinks this season is a tad bit misogynistic? Like this is the shortest them phase the show as ever had (to the point where i'd argue teams don't really matter) and 4 of the 5 team phase boots were girls. Millie and Emma in particular were really bad. Like, you could make Millie a team phase boot without like shitting on her that hard. And Emma got like fuck all closure outside of breaking up with Chase off screen like wow, way to utilize such a high potential character, Fresh. And this is saying nothing about how the girls that did make it to the merge had plots basically dominated by romance and like nothing else. And then there's MKulia which is apparently intended to be a friendship but like is written like a romantic one at times. It gives me all-stars gwourtney vibes and (as a fan of gwourtney myself) not in a good way. At least MK and Julia were somewhat in character I guess, but they had their edges really sanded off and honestly as a friendship (situationship?) it's a complete downgrade from Millie and Priya in so many ways
-And another thing: who's the protagonist this season? Outside of Praleb, who am I supposed to care for? Who am I supposed to root for? By the halfway mark, the show doesn't really make any convincing arguments to root for like anyone there outside of maybe Damien? And he went gone in episode 10, so like, hockey dudes? No one has an interesting enough narrative for me to care.
-The immunity idol stinks as usual. Like, why did Damien do THE SAME FUCKING THING HEATHER DID IN ALL-STARS?? That actually pissed me off so much holy shit. The immunity idol as it stands in the show is basically a shitty plot device made to keep characters in as there's no real strategy revolved around it.
-Oh and another minor thing: Owen's cameo sucks, and that's entirely due to him not being physically aged up at all and just being a vehicle for the same dumb jokes they always make with him. so stupid
-Anyways, I spend an entire season with two shitass straight relationships taking up screentime, a whole multiude of potential plotlines from last season (pramien) and this season (scary girl's revenge, millie being the new ripper, damien's comeback, julia having internal conflict over her friendship (feelings?) for MK) being set up and just nothing being done with them, and characters in general just being nerfed or borderline out of character (Ripper) and what am I rewarded with?
-Soar Losers. The most boring nothing finale in the entire show. The choices for finalists suck, Wayne, while being the least bad option for a winner (and i do still like him a lot), is still a mid ass winner in the grand scheme of the entire show. And more praleb drama? fuck off I hate them so much. The challenge did not feel finale worthy at all, and honestly it was the worst challenge in the whole season. On top of being a bunch of nothing, the show decides to bring back the worst trope it ever had: losing hair as karma. I almost ragequit the episode on the spot that shit makes me so irrationally mad. I think it's even worse here because Julia still had hair after the fact, which makes it seem like they were aware it's not a popular TD trope but wanted to half commit to it anyways for the sake of tradition or something. Terrible finale to an already decently sized letdown of a season, but it has some ok MKulia moments I guess. The finale was just emblematic of the entire season, where things just happen and you're just expected to go along with everything. (Also side note how come Chase wasn't the one to jump off of the cart for pizza immediately?)
TL;DR reboot season 2 imo was a step down in every conceivable way from season 1 apart of i guess comedy and it's left a very sour taste in my mouth. I'm probably missing a few points that I'll add onto later but man it feels nice putting my opinion out there.

Based on what I've seen in the Ernesto Foulworth situation going on in this fandom, I say a lot of you wouldn't survive a day in JoJo's fandom. And I don't mean that in a bad way or as an insult to anyone, it's just that the localization name changes is really not that bad compared to what we have to deal with in JoJo. I'd rather take Fellow Honest and Gidel to Ernesto Foulworth and Gino than Limp Bizkit to Flaccid Pancake anyday. And not to mention the localized names for part 5, which imo isn't that bad but is a massive downgrade from the original names like Aerosmith to Lil Bomber.

So, I have read pretty much all of Cass' Pre-Flashpoint appearances. As a Cassandra Cain connoisseur do you have any recs for her Post-Flashpoint content? Spirit World, Batgirls, Ram V.'s Tec and BoP (2023) are already on my reading list!
Oooh you have a solid reading list there! I know her technical reintroduction is in Batman and Robin Eternal and it is a story focused on her but to go from pre flashpoint to this... It's a massive downgrade imo. If you survived her initial character assassination post One Year Later you could probably handle this easy but I think I only enjoyed it as much because it was Cass's return to comics after YEARS. I will say Tynion's Rebirth Tec run has a few nice little moments with her in them, echoes of Pre Flashpoint that if you're looking for more content I'd recommend even though she's Orphan in them. She appears from 934 onward if I'm remembering correctly, and has a story arc focused on her from 950 to 956, and appears in the next few arcs as well. Issue 980 is when she and Steph get to see their past lives which is cool, although it is part of a silly evil future Tim arc that I can never take seriously. After that Bryan Hill takes over Tec and clearly likes her character, as she's featured from 983 to 987 and then used in his Batman and the Outsiders run. I'd recommend Batman and the Outsiders too as it shows her bond with Duke and has a different Shiva than the boring super evil one commonly used, although Hill doesn't get Cass's voice completely right I still found it enjoyable.
I'm probably forgetting a lot as this is just the few I've memorized lmao. If you want a list of every single appearance I have that up to the start of Batgirls, but this is a more general list of issues I can actually recommend for Cass content.
Thanks for the ask!

If Sol Badguy was a gun guy instead of a sword guy, do you think he would be as cool? A little less cool? Maybe cooler?
I'm a sword guy through and through so replacing a sword with a gun is always a massive downgrade, imo. It'd have to be a hell of a cool gun to beat out any of the swords he's had

[spoilers for Bioshock]
I think I’ve been here long enough to start some discourse, Frank Fontaine is one of my least favorite videogame villains. His chapters are mostly devoid of the amazing atmospheric horror of the first 2/3rds of the game (because its kind of hard to focus on being creeped out when theres a smuggler living in your head who won’t stop talking about how much you suck), and when I think back, my favorite chapters of the game were the creepiest ones (med pavillion, fort frollic, etc). The only Fontaine chapter that I feel really stands out is Point Promtheus while the rest just kind of blend together. His final boss battle does not feel like a fitting conclusion to the game. Its a fine fight, but the concept is just way too wacky. How does Adam even work at that point? You go from human to zombie mutant to golden statue? Wtf? The only foreshadowing he got was in Neptune’s Bounty, and a single (and optional if I remember correctly) room in Fort Frolic, which while it makes the twist even more surprising, also made me kind of forget who Fontaine was by the time it happened. I think the twist was still awesome, but Fontaine taking over the entire city just felt kind of nonsensical and screwed with the story pacing. I probably wouldn’t mind him as much though, if he wasn’t a twist villain for one of the most amazing and intimidating villains in gaming (imo), Andrew Ryan. Ryan’s screwed up philosophies and ideas, as well as his quiet omnipresence throughout Rapture made him such a cool villain. (He also knew when to shut up). I guess that makes it more impressive that Fontaine could outsmart him? Even so, it feels like a massive downgrade to go from a mad genius philosopher who built dystopian atlantis to…some mob guy. I know that his connection with Jack is important and makes him interesting in his own way, while his absolute power over Jack makes him scary in his own way, but its just not the same and his chapters don’t feel like the Bioshock I fell in love with for the first 2/3rds of the game.
(tl:dr-Frank Fontaine is a weak villain in my eyes because he messes with the flow and atmosphere of the game, his chapters aren’t creepy or memorable, his fight was ok but dumb in concept, and while he’s cool in his own ways and would work as a stand alone villain the fact that he follows up Andrew Ryan makes him super underwhelming.)

I just wanna talk about the new Story of Seasons/Harvest Moon game for a second because honestly like
A(nother) Wonderful Life (the OG for the GameCube) was always such a fascinating entry to me because it’s quite literally one of the most barebones and easiest entries in the entire series. Like, there’s only four festivals, only a handful of random events, probably the smallest farm of any entry, it’s super easy to build friendship and villagers don’t have that much dialogue… yet if you ask any fan of the series they’ll probably still rate it highly. And I’m the same! I absolutely love the game!
I really do think the game’s simplicity is what makes it stand out in the grand scheme of things. It’s just a chill lil game that doesn’t require much from you and you can kind of take it at your own pace. And it has less of the like… massive farming empire vibes? of other entries or a game like Stardew Valley. More like a little homestead.
I think the remake really captures that essence too, but with improvements. I wanna talk about what I think they improved on a bit, more under the cut cuz it’s gonna get long.
I haven’t timed it, but the days feel MUCH quicker in the remake. In the OG it felt like you could get absolutely everything done (farming, running around and gifting + collecting all the flowers and such) by about 2 pm. I thiiiiink that was to give you time to do the archaeology and fishing and whatnot, but IMO the days in the original still moved way too slowly (also didn’t the game time pause while fishing and stuff? It doesn’t anymore)
Tool upgrades! The tools now have copper, silver, and gold variants that can be bought from Van assuming certain criteria are met, which means you can easily upgrade your stuff without having to know obscure triggers (e.g. befriending Romana and coming to her room at a certain time to get the watering can that can water 9 squares at a time). This makes it actually worthwhile to use all of your farmland AND water it twice a day, since it’s no longer going to take you hours of button mashing just to water everything.
Obvious but all the glitches are fixed now too. So Van no longer comes every day of the week, selling a calf doesn’t permanently lock a barn slot (what killed my first playthrough), etc.
The bulletin board is a nice way to help players gain friendship/pass the time but in a slightly different way. Plus it will notify you of important items, like the alarm clock!
The festivals are MUCH harder to miss now
I believe they added more little cutscenes (or at least possibly made them easier to trigger)
You can marry anyone! You can also pick your character’s pronouns so you can officially play a non-binary character. They do only let you pick between he/him, she/her, and they/them tho.
Adding onto that, they let you have a daughter finally, without any bullshit.
There’s kind of an inbuilt achievement system, which I think actually does wonders for helping give you direction while playing. Stuff like fish up so many types of fish, have so many animals born on your farm, etc. I don’t know if it’s possible to get all of them in a single playthrough but I am actually trying
The UI is MUCH clearer and more informative with stuff like showing you your exact stamina and energy levels
The cows no longer have to be bred to continue giving milk. I know some people probably won’t like this much since it added a bit of realism to the game, but I prefer it this way tbh. Because of the way breeding worked in the old game you basically always had a cow that wasn’t giving you milk, cutting into your profit margins
The goat. iykyk
Downgrades
They Bishiefied Cody (Gordy now) :( I wish the SoS games allowed their bachelor(ette)s to have more body diversity in general. Woulda married that man in a heartbeat with his OG design lemme tell you
The fucking territory mini game is still here. And you have to win ten games to earn a music record. Help.

31-34 for if you want to do that ask thing? fav and least fav pre and post timeskip outfits or designs? (soz if this is too many lol)
31. What is your favorite pre-timeskip character design or outfit? most characters are wearing uniforms pre-ts and none of them Really stand out to me (though im always biased towards dimitri). i really like rhea's design tho! and seteth is one of my favourites, though he doesn't actually change post-ts of course. same goes for hanneman - i wish they'd removed the coat though, im not a big fan of how it obscures a lot of his silhouette and suit, feels like a waste. 32. What is your favorite post-timeskip character design or outfit? man this is such a hard question bc i genuinely think SO many of the ts designs go so hard. in terms of character development dimitri's high lord design represents what he's been through and where he is mentally very well, so even if it isn't very ostentatious, it is one of my favourite designs. other favourites are claude's barbarossa (speaks for itself) and ignatz and felix - the latter two are very nicely detailed, with pleasing colour palettes, and have unique vibes to them that i think really add to the characters. 33. What is your least favorite (or hated) pre-timeskip character design or outfit? i hate f!byleth's outfit so much. like why does it look like that. they coulda stuck her in the same stuff as m!byleth, which is pretty decent! but nooo we have to show midriff and wear a fucked up pantyhose with hotpants. ok. whenever i play as her bc i want to marry some guy i have her wear anything but her standard getup. 34. What is your least favorite (or hated) post-timeskip character design or outfit? i don't hate it per se but i think leonie got a pretty serious downgrade. i understand keeping her clothing simple, in line with her background, but it does make her look kind of boring next to the other units and i wish they kept her hair short. uhh raphael is also boring so im not a huge fan of that either. also! im still disappointed we didn't get timeskip designs for church of seiros characters, massive letdown imo. and why didn't they? they're guaranteed present in ss war phase so it makes zero sense to me that they never got an upgrade. of course the students' designs are changed to show that they've gotten older but it's not like people who are already adults don't change within the span of five years - especially if there's a war going on. absolutely incomprehensible to me that seteth (literal ss house leader you cannot change my mind) never got an upgrade.

ok im going to talk about wurlitzer band organs now
wurlitzer 105
Tumblr media
this 1925 one is simple in design yet still aesthetically pleasing, im really liking the the way the golds and browns work w each other here, Loving the cymbal on top!! i always love it when there are hand drawn paintings! sound is pretty simple, not a lot of variety in instruments here but it gets the job done. not the nicest sounding imo kinda gives off big looney tunes vibes if im being honest.
Tumblr media
this 1928 105 band organ has less of a cohesive theme compared to the previous but i think it sounds nicer! idk the blues and reds are just really distracting to me. the paintings are very lovely tho!
Tumblr media
this one is,,, interesting! i like the doll inside lol and if i’m being honest i prefer the paint colors in this one rather than the previous,,,
Tumblr media
ok this one looks boring tbh but the song it’s playing is one of the most cheery beautiful songs i’ve heard this play yet!
Wurlitzer 125
Tumblr media
there really isn’t a whole lot a physical varieties in this one the usually just look like this and I’m a little disappointed. just looks like a giant cabinet and the horns look dumb imo. speaking of, the horns dont really sound that nice either, some of these have some really nice bass and makes the music feel more full but then the horns start blaring and I start to get annoyed.
Wurlitzer 165
Tumblr media
now THIS is where its GORGEOUS. where do I even begin… this has an abundance of swirls and curves along the edges giving it such an elegant shape, lights are now included which just makes the metal parts Shine!! And the painting being the center on top like the star of a Christmas tree just works so nicely. And the variety is really refreshing! Horns, triangle, bells and whistles, there’s so many opportunities here. While I feel like 125 was trying to achieve a sort of classy vibe one’s on it’s simple yet elegant design, this one takes itself seriously while also knowing it’s the life of the party!
Tumblr media
AND JUST LOOK AT HER1!1 the beautiful theme of animals and nature is so good and creative for this!! I seriously recommend anyone to check out how this one sounds bc these are just so unique and fun,,, i usually find a lot of Wurlitzer music can be a bit boring when it’s just a steady beat without much personality and this music is Not like that at all! It’s very bouncy and fun!
https://youtu.be/tMj6duvFJ4o
Tumblr media
Now if Wurlitzer 165 was the queen, then 165 model 157 is the king. The strong colors and designs feel very royal to me, and I find it interesting that there is more of a balance between swirls shaping it and fancy, intricately carved pillars as if to hold its massive, intimidating weight, size, and power.
Wurlitzer 160
Tumblr media
Ok this is a downgrade imo. It’s just bigger and more? It’s obviously very impressive and I can appreciate it for its simplistic nature but in my personal preference I just don’t find it very appealing.
if u read all this youre a real one ily and feel free to send in suggestions for part 2!

Those poor dancers... Set Me Free Pt. 2 choreography looks fucking exhausting to them. But Jimin's own choreo is very much lacking. It's not really satisfying to me, and his facial expressions are too blank as well. Even Filter, whose choreo imo is a downgrade from Serendipity and Lie, was more unique and charming. It fit his personality well yet showed us something new. As impressive as the group choreo is, the overall product isn't massively impressive. In ON, BTS outshined the dancers; their choreo was even cooler and up to par with the dancers in terms of difficulty. But the gap between Jimin and his dancers is so big that it's not very satisfying? (In terms of choreo, not skill.) On the other hand, there are so many dancers you can't really appreciate their choreo. It's like you get an overall feel of it, and only notice some parts that highlight or contrast with Jimin, so even a super complex choreo isn't enough for me to say I loved the overall performance. It might fit the song, but Jimin is somewhat lost among the dancers, yet the dancers are also overshadowed by Jimin... Dunno how else to explain it. It might grow on me though, like the Filter choreo did.

I have to disagree a little bit on two points:
1) the reply function taking priority over a side menu is imo a good change, because having to hold a message and tapping reply is a significant disruption to the flow of typing, meanwhile having to bring up the channel member list is a thing that tends to be less important, and having to tap the channel title makes sense. It stops being unintuitive as soon as you stop calling it a side menu.
On a quick side note, server wide search still exists, it's above the channel list... That one is still a horrible change though, I really want to know who thought having two different searches would be a good idea
2) The DMs are in a way better place now. With the old UI, especially for right handed people with large phones, it was: swipe -> shift your phone/use your other hand to be able to reach the DM button -> tap the DM button -> tap the DM you want to open (potentially having to reach far again if you want to switch DMs)
While it was technically intuitive if you were used to desktop, it was an objectively bad placement for mobile devices that has been bothering me ever since I got the app
Now it is: swipe -> comfy tap in the bottom center of your screen -> comfy tap DM because all the new ones are within reach
The only downgrade is that it no longer pulls up your last DM, but that can even be seen as a positive if you're in public
(I can't comment on the mobile calls because I usually don't use them, though that does sound a lot like things discord would do)
One of discord mobile's main issues has always been that it tried to be as close to desktop as possible, which is good for familiarity, but some things just aren't mobile user friendly/have significantly different functions than on other apps (i.e. swipe reply is used on both telegram and whatsapp).
While moving things around tends to be really bad for UX in the short term, discord mobile's layout just wasn't a good mobile layout (and in some parts still isn't) and it really needed it.
The main problem here isn't that discord moved something small around, it's that they changed multiple big things at once instead of introducing them bit by bit (while actively breaking a lot in the process), and all that on top of an app that has had massive performance issues for years that have only gotten worse with every update while largely ignoring the user feedback to the point where it's just insulting (but at least the DMs are now easier to reach)
a tech company saying "we know change can be scary" in the midst of user backlash has the same energy as "the Titanic is virtually unsinkable"
