Marvel Movie Nights: Deadpool 2
Tumblr media
You know, after watching Infinity War - this is a real pallet cleanser. And, clearly Marvel studios owed Fox at this point, right? I mean, all the Disney and MCU references -- yeah. And you know what, Deadpool fits in more than one would think.
I'm so glad they made a Thanos joke.
Anyway, review...
When I watched Deadpool for the first time, I was generally surprised that a movie that was so crass and uber violent would be really kind of enjoyable. And, I honestly feel the same way about this one.
Gratuitous violence with a 12yo boy potty humor has never been my cup of tea. The thing that saves these films, and really has me giving my respect to Ryan Reynolds, is the fact that there's genuine heart underneath all the snark (as someone who really gets Deadpool would know and do). So, sure, it's still an uber violent, crass parody of a superhero film. But deep down inside - it still cares.
The plot, honestly, is a little thin. It's still structured the same way every superhero film is -- to the point that I did get a little bored about half way through, but at least the ending picked up and was far more entertaining than the somewhat bland ending to the first film.
I think, for me, what really makes it are the characters -- the new ones Cable and Domino and omg did they really bring in Rusty Collins?? -- work pretty well, as well as bringing back pretty much all of the old cast. They're all such a delight to watch.
And then the fourth wall breaking meta commentary about super hero films -- it's just so great. I can do without dick and ball jokes, but my god, give me all the filmmaking meta commentary. It's really the best part of the film. (And oh man - are there some deep cuts in this one. I'm proud of myself for getting most of them.)
Final Verdict: It's enjoyable, Ryan Reynolds did not let me down (even if at times it's rather predictable and slightly dull in that it's a tad too long). But I am so ready for Deadpool 3. Welcome to the MCU Deadpool! Hope you survive the experience!
Next Up: Ant-Man and the Wasp. Oh, right, back to normal superhero shenanigans!

Tony: here, hold this *hands Peter a wrench*
Peter: *now holding 17 wrenches* I think I'm gonna drop it
Tony: You're fine
*loud clang and crash*
Peter: I dropped it
Clint: *from the vents* 16! I repeat, he can hold 16 wrenches! Who had the bet for 16?
Tony: Damn it! You couldn't have held one more wrench, kid!?
Peter: ...what is going on?
Steve: *from upstairs* BUCKY WON! AGAIN!
Clint: DAMN YOU BARNES!
Tony: Thats 4 rounds Barnes has won now! How does he do it!?
Bucky: *from upstairs* I'M JUST A REALLY GOOD GUESSER
Clint: This is bullshit! He's cheating!
Peter: Not that I understand remotely what's going on... but how would he cheat?
Clint: Well I dont know that! If I knew how you could cheat at this bet dont ya think I'd have won by now!

Cherik- My rant about Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr's relationship.
X-Men First Class
Charles was the first person to ever believe that Erik could be good. Charles in the movie always believed in Erik, and of course it was Charles being optimistic as a person, but he really did believe in Erik.
Through out the movie they really started to trust eachother, and care. They became close very fast, and lets not forget THIS SCENE:
Tumblr media
I think my favorite part of the movie of these two is the ending of them arguing and physically fighting even- but the second Charles got shot he dropped everything and rushed to his side, cradling his body and holding his head on his lap.
He then choked Moira blaming her, but the second Charles says "she didn't do this... You did." Erik stops and practically crumbles.
Tumblr media
"I want you on my side."
Was Erik's understanding they're different point of views but doesn't want to leave the only person that's believed in him and his power could be used for good.
X men Days of Future Past:
Literally just arguing husbands in a divorce.
For most of the movie, it takes place in 1973 and we have Charles being a drug addict to deal with... Well, everything. Raven and Eric left him, the others most likely died from experiments (judging by what Raven says in X-Men:Apocalypse) it was just him and Hank.
Then Charles quite literally helps Logan plan a jailbreak for Erik from the Pentagon but you know things happen.
Tumblr media
I'm also pretty sure these two literally just accidentally gave each other abandonment issues
But the ending of this movie was similar to first class, with the two, once again, going they're Separate ways after a squabble- which is Erik Trying to kill many US officials to show that mutants should be treated seriously.
This is the main disagreement between Charles and Erik through every movie- Erik always using violence to prove that mutants are superior, but Charles sees mutants and humans as equals. He just wants peace.
Even without using his powers though, Charles always somehow reasons with erik- or in this case reasons with Raven to reason with Erik.
Xmen Apocalypse:
I'll skip straight to the ending of this movie, of when Raven reasons with Erik. She tells him that yes, he lost his wife and daughter- but he hasn't lost everything.
And what does he think of In that scene? Charles. Erik thinks of how Charles believed in him at the very beginning- but notice how they didn't even add anyone else? Not Raven or anything? Just Charles and what he did.
Tumblr media
When Apocalypse was threatening to kill Peter he didn't do anything- when Apocalypse was choking Raven out, he didn't stop it. But his breaking point was when he found Charles and was going after him.
Tumblr media
"You sure I can't convince you to stay?"
"You're psychic, Charles.you can convince me to do anything."
Yet he walks away and charles respects that decision once again. No matter what, Charles sticks to his moral of, "just because one loses they're way doesn't mean they're lost forever" and he really is proving this over and over with Erik.
Their relationship is so complex yet so interesting. They may not be designated 'lover's but they sure as hell aren't just Friends.
I barely scratched the surface of these mens relationship- only briefing over 3 movies (and hell I could have said a lot more about them) and not even touching the comics or X-Men 97'- But I had fun writing it.

Marvel Movie Night: Thor Ragnarök
Tumblr media
*blows dust off movie reviews*
It's been a while! And I stopped just as the movies were starting to really get good. Looking at the list, we're kind of moving into when Marvel hits the heights of its power.
So, I'm going to be honest, I don't have a whole lot to say about this film. It's good. It's solidly good. It's before Taika Waititi goes off the rails a bit, and when the MCU allowed itself to stray a bit from its own convention. It's fun and wacky and stills know when to put in the heart. And as we all know, Thor needed some much needed lightning to really elevate the character, who struggled on his own. It works, I feel like I can't really add to what's already been said a hundred times over.
I'm going to just bullet point the few thoughts that I do have...
Thor and Loki's sibling relationship is really the heart of this one. While Loki can seem to be on his own, I feel like one thing missing from Thor's fourth movie was Loki.
Doctor Strange is fantastic in this movie. I kind of wish we got this version of the character more often.
All the bright colors! It's a nice homage to the drug induced insanity of 70s comics.
Most of the comedy in this film really lands. Though there are a few things, here and there, that don't. I don't think the opening bit is that amusing, but it definitely sets the tone.
There are some really beautiful sequences in here - like Odin's death and the death of the Valkyries. The film is grounded when it needs to be, and that's a nice touch.
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Tessa Thompson is great in this film. I don't more to elaborate on, but the character is a good addition.
All the Korg stuff is perfect.
I'm not usually a big Hulk fan, but I think he's used to great affect here. I feel like Marvel should do more team-up movies like this.
Every time Thor brought up his weird dreams, it made me think about how much Age of Ultron was really just a set up movie for this.
I'm a little torn about Hela. Cate Blanchett seems to be enjoying herself a lot, and I appreciate the camp of her not taking herself too seriously. But they really didn't do much with her since she was away from the action for so much of the film. She feels a little flat because of it.
There are a few things that don't quite land - the disposal of the Warriors Three just feels gratuitously mean. Sure, I didn't think they worked in the films either, but I felt like there could have been a more respectful way to send them off. Also, everything with Idris Elba feels like it's from some other fantasy movie.
Jeff Goldblum is a comedic genius. 'Yay, us!'
When Thanos shows up after the credits, it feels uncomfortably dark. It felt a little bittersweet that this is the last Thor and Loki adventure (possibly - it's the MCU so who really knows).
Final Verdict: It's a good film! The one thing I couldn't help feeling when watching this one is how, yes, the MCU does have a bit of same-ness to everything it does. But at least this movie has a ton of fun doing it.
Next Up: Black Panther! For which I have no pity comment.

I don’t think, as a fandom, we talk about Bucky and Steve fighting in one of the most gruesome and fucked up wars the modern world has seen enough (ontop of being raised by fathers who fought in the one before it)
While yes, they deserve and should be written as characters with PTSD because of what they do on the avengers/as the winter soldier/being placed in a whole new world without a say
We should also be writing them as characters who have fought in WWII and seen some fucking shit (Omaha beach, the bombs in Japan, people who where imprisoned at the concentration camp, their friends dying right next to them, helping out in the trenches, watching people loose a leg or arm, etc etc)
Ontop of this, bucky (in the comics and I think one of the cartoons) joined the army when he was like 17/18 years old. A fucking kid.
We should write more PTSD scenes of the two having flashbacks relating to WWII and not only the things I mentioned before
Steve is screaming and crying on the floor because Tony grabbed his arm from behind and- Buck is a fucking child and he’s stuck in the building, let go of me Sargent - let me go get my little brother before it blows and Tony is shushing him with “it’s okay hon, it’s just me”
Bucky is holding a gun up to his husband’s face because, just for a second, Sam (with a Halloween mask) looked like a gasser that killed a guy who pushed Bucky out of a window before said gas exploded on that floor and the guy died
More scenes of PTSD Bucky and Steve that goes to WWII

Honest to goodness question, because I do not pay enough attention and I haven't seen all the movies/shows. What other couples/pairings/ships have canonically said 'I love you' in the MCU? I know we have pairings that are obviously in love and/or together, but how many have said the words? Just really curious atm...

another Peter parker request!
one day Peter just sees r sitting on a rooftop and just assumes the worst but that's not the case! he finds out that they were just having lunch/snacks and looking at the ny skyline and maybe they just talk and share their lunch with him?
<3
(1.5K celebration) gn!reader
"ma'am!" there was a loud shout that caught your attention. you looked around for the source, wondering who was causing a commotion at this time of day.
eyes landing on the building's roof across from you, squinting your eyes a bit to see the figure of a person. they were wearing a spider-man costume, waving their arms about frantically. "don't do anything crazy!" yelling in your direction.
it took you a moment to wonder why they were making that assumption until you remember that you were sitting on the ledge of a roof like it was nothing. "i- i'm not! just watching the sunset!" quick to quell the bystanders worrys.
he went silent on his end, but you could still see his figure watching. “are- are you sure! can- can i- is it okay if i join you!”
you grabbed your phone ready to dial the cops, “if you can swing over!” the only way to prove it was the actual spidey.
you heard a loud thwip then saw a string of webbing landing to the rooftop door. the hero type walked over with ease and plopped down beside you. “i swear i’m spider-man. a normal new yorker wouldn’t care about a stranger this much.” and you had to agree with that.
“well thank you for worrying about me, but i swear all is good. just like to eat and watch the sunset up here randomly during the month.” popping a gummy worm into your mouth as you squinted against the dwindling sun.
“that’s nice. i hope you don’t mind me interfering, i actually could use a little break now that i’m sitting.” you heard him take a deep sigh.
“of course, spidey. want a gummy?”
