BHOC: DAREDEVIL #157
In 1979, DAREDVIL was a series that had been limping along for years. Perhaps its only saving grace, the thing that kept it from being cancelled, was the fact that it was one of the original Marvel titles that had been launched at the start of the 1960s at the dawn of the Marvel Age. But the book was bimonthly, and its fortunes didn’t look all that great. Mind you, all of that was about to…

Conan the Barbarian #99 (1979)
Conan and Belit arrive by pirate ship to the dark cliffs of the Black Coast and encounter horrible man-crabs that have captured the crew of another pirate ship. Probably the best Conan creative team, Roy Thomas and John Buscema have a great style. The story is dynamic (if not a bit too wordy) and the art is action oriented and always exciting. I love reading the Bullpen Bulletins from these old Marvel Comics and the Hostess ads.

"What do I love most about being here at Marvel? It's the interesting people you get to work with," read John Byrne's text for this illustration that appeared in the September 1983 edition of the Bullpen Bulletins page from the House of Ideas.

BHOC: AVENGERS #179
I bought this issue of AVENGERS on one of my regular weekly Thursday trips to my neighborhood’s local 7-11, whose spinner rack was my primary source of new comics at this time. Having wrapped up the Korvac Saga a few months earlier, AVENGERS was pretty clearly in a scheduling hole, and so editor Jim Shooter took steps to get the series back on schedule by dropping in a series of fill-in stories.…

A Sez Dez editorial column from January 1980 on the 'Marvel Revolution' that had been happening in the Marvel UK titles. Dez's columns were always worth a read.
