why jikook?

i've been asking myself this a lot recently bc well, why them? why not tkook? or ynmin? hell, jihope even, they're underrated as hell honestly, have you seen that hot tub video? hobi was ready to unhinge his jaw to swallow jimin whole (and who (jk) could blame him.)

but jikook, in a not joking way, hits different. they always have. it's been years at this point that i've been deep in this rabbit hole (within the larger bts rabbit hole, my god, how deep does it go) but i don't recall making the conscious decision to fall in.

maybe a little background?

i'm a fake love army. actually, if we're getting technical, i'm an outro tear army bc it was in the comments of the freshly released fake love music video that i saw someone recommend outro tear if i enjoyed fake love and then it was over for me. extremely not fake love at first listen, who's voice is second on this track? i NEED to know. i'm a yoongi/rapline bias to this day. fake love still fucks though, don't get me wrong, it's a never skip for me.

for that first year and then some, i consumed backlogged content like it was my day job. i am a prone to hyper-fixations hermit, basically, who was going to stop me? my therapist? nah, she picks her battles.

i watched everything i could get my grubby little hands on like someone would be testing me on it later. (shoutout qdeoks, you were so real) i didn't open stan twitter for the first time till probably the end of 2018, really just in time to be slapped in the face full force with the shitshow that was a hate campaign against these boys i was deeply invested in by then, the likes of which i had never experienced in an online space up to that point. it was a truly, truly wild era, don't ever let anyone tell you differently.

all that to say, i've been here for a hot minute and i developed my own first impressions on bts and the members as individuals in a vacuum. no one had to point jikook out to me, they stuck out on their own.

potentially relevant disclaimer before we continue: i am really really queer. i grew up in the united states conservative deep south and had to change high schools my sophomore year bc i was outed and then violently ostracized for being in a relationship with my same sex best friend at the time. it is safe to say i have a lot of feelings about and experience even when it comes to having to be low key (understatement lol) about who you love. i am not here just to make my barbies kiss.

actually, on that note, jikook wouldnt even be my chosen barbies out of bts. if we're in true fantasy delulu hours here, i would want yoonjin to be real. god, that would be the stuff, they're so old married as it is. peak romance.

i think the first place jikook ever truly caught my attention were the memories dvds. jimin has always been a sweet, bby angel taking care of all his members but i remember thinking that he seemed to pay a little extra, special attention to jungkook. and of course, why not, jk's the maknae after all. all of them have always been doting on him and deservedly so. but in those briefly shown really serious, quiet moments, jimin was often first in line. a spot very easy for him to obtain tbh as jk never seemed to be very far from him anyway. maybe if you've never in real time lived the satellite jeon accusations (hi pandemic army, bless you, i hope you make it to 2025 when we have them all back without restrictions) you might find them easier to dismiss but it was so consistent back then in all of the content being released. and once noticed, i don't know how anyone ever un-notices it. but i was in deep before i even realized the water was boiling.

should i talk about why not tkook? or ynmin, for me? i'm just pulling those as examples bc i know they're the popular contenders here but all joking in the beginning of this post aside, none of the other members interpersonal relationships, in any configuration (sadly, RIP yoonjin romance), have ever struck me as anything other than puppy crush/deep friendship/family. and that's not bc i don't think over half of those men aren't queer in some form or fashion because WHEW, that is an entirely different post and we simply do not have the time to unpack rn but it's not for lack of looking.

i started in a vacuum, but i have by no means stayed there, i walked in all of those front doors and sat down and said "convince me." i've got the time and lack of life, i am ready to be won over. what have i missed?

to this day i still regularly try and check my own confirmation bias, i'm obviously looking for jikook at this stage but i'm still ready on my toes if any of the others want to get crazy. (yoonjin i am rooting for you, we're all rooting for you)

and i'm not here to really persuade or sway anyone one way or another either. there are a 1000 other blogs on this site that can probably offer you better explanations, specific clips, and detailed break downs of moments throughout the years and even then people are going to see what they want to see. i just wanted to write some of my own thoughts down finally.

though...i guess if i had to point to any one single piece of "evidence" it would definitely be tried and true gcf tokyo? but if watching that the first time didn't ring through you like a gunshot, i def don't think there's anything i could say beyond that.

honestly, i think so much of "why jikook" for me boils down to the pit in the bottom of my stomach that i used to get when i first began to notice them. when i got past the initial warm fuzzies inspired by the sincerity of their interactions, my immediate second emotion was concern.

i remember the first time i heard some of the other boys make an offhand joke about them being a couple and i got anxious, fast. i thought hide, hide better, please be safe. i began to pay extra attention to the other members in general too when jikook would do things and felt like i could sometimes see a similar anxiety to my own in their expressions. for a long time, i just worried about them and where i saw other people rejoice in their more obvious moments, i was slow to celebrate.

despite my initial hesitation, it's now been about 5 years since the first time they ever made me double take. they're a few years younger than me but i feel like we've been growing up together. (parasocial? idk her.) they're less conspicuous these days, and for lots of obvious reasons, but i feel like overall, their confidence in themselves and each other is quite high. i know that's probably a funny thing to say in light of this last week especially, but i stand by it. i've seen this song and dance before. i have managed my own expectations in the past, taken full steps back only to be beaten anew over the head so many times with enough "coincidences" i felt borderline foolish to try and deny anything. jikook are truly some sort of neuro-spicy pattern recognition drug, i swear.

and i've never really gotten to talk about any of this with anyone before! i'm shy irl, and shy online apparently bc i have just been lurking around the outer lines of this circle this whole time like some creepy creep but i've decided i'm over it. fuck it. growth.gif. idk that i have anything important or new to contribute to the conversation but my god, no one else seems to let that stop them so i might as well take my turn on the soapbox, no?

Idk if you ever belived in this theory or not but many jkkrs says basically in this shot jk showed that jm woke up in the same room as him implying that they shared the room. I think there's a painting in this room which is there in hobi's room (and since jm and hobi were roommates it's their room).

Now in the documentry jm said that him and jk left the dorm last Along with jin and yg (he wasn't sure if it was yg or jin, Maybe it could be both or it could be one of yoonjin leaving first before jikook. "Yes, Taebear?" Taehyung ruffles his hair with a soft smile.

"I'm immortal?" Taemin asks.

"Yes, why?" His dad raises an eyebrow at his oldest son.

"I'm never gonna age?" 

"You're never gonna age, baby. What happened?" Yuna interferes rubbing Taemin's arm.

"I- What about Jungwon then. He's not immortal. He's gonna die-"

Yuna burst out laughing as Taehyung chuckles softly along with her, "You're literally a god, Taemin. You can turn him immortal."

"Really? How?" Taemin perks up.

"I'll tell you later," Taehyun says standing up with a sigh, "We should go start getting dinner ready. Jungwon will be here soon."

"Aren't you excited to meet him?" Taemin asks his family with a frown.

"I already saw him when I visited your school," Taehyung replies, "Just haven't spoken to him."

"I've seen, spoken and hung out with him," Taemin's younger sister Yuki says with a grin, "He's a nice guy. Too bad I'm not into boys."

Taemin rolls his eyes when his siblings shrug their shoulders.

"Mom?" He asks her, "Have you seen him?"

"Nope," Yuna grins, "I'm excited to see him."

"At least one person's excited," Taemin sighs walking into the kitchen to prepare dinner.

Jungwon breathes in fixing his coat as he stands in front of Taemin's house. "Taemin's parents' house is big", he thinks, "he never told me he was rich. I hope his parents like me. I wanna get married to my baby."

"He's here!" Yoonjin yells in a whisper, "I hear his thoughts!"

"Why isn't he ringing the bell?" Yuki rolls her eyes.

"He's nervous," Yoonjin giggles, "He wants to get married to you."

Taemin's face flushes and Yuna giggles.

"Looks like your love life is settled," Yuna nudges Taemin and the doorbell goes off. Taemin lets out a sigh and walks to the front door opening it. His heart melts seeing Jungwon stand there in all of his glory wearing a suit. 

"You look gorgeous," Taemin says softly, "Are those flowers for me?"

"No, silly," Jungwon chuckles, "They're for your mom."

"Oh, I'm sorry," Taemin grins stepping aside, "Come in."

"You look delicious by the way," Jungwon winks at Taemin. 

"Coat, sir?" Taemin blushes furiously with Jungwon's eyes are all over him. Jungwon removes his coat and hands it to his boyfriend, "Thank you."

Taemin leads Jungwon into the living room where all siblings were seated, "Um, guys? This is Jungwon-"

"We know," Yuki cuts him off, "We've seen him only a thousand times at school."

Jungwons laughs as Taemin gets furious, "Yuki! That's not how you treat a guest."

"I know," she gives a sarcastic smile before looking back at her phone.

"Ignore her," Taemin rolls his eyes.

"Ah! Jungwon," Taehyung walks into the living room from the kitchen, "It's nice to finally meet you," he takes Jungwon's hands, "I'm Taehyung. Taemin's dad and that," he points to Yuna who was coming from the kitchen, "Is his mother and my beautiful wife, Yuna."

"Hi," Yuna greets Jungwon with a huge grin, "It's so nice to meet you. Taemin talks about you all the time."

"He does?" Jungwon blushes glancing at Taemin occasionally to find him in the same state, "This is for you," he hands the flowers to her.

"Yes! Thank you, these are lovely," Yuna giggles, "Please, come take a seat at the table. Dinner will be ready soon."

"So," Taehyung begins, "What are you planning to do in the future?"

"I've taken genetic engineering, sir," Jungwon replies, "I'm planning to get into research."

"That is amazing," Taehyung nods his head, "Taemin here is going to inherit my company."

"Oh?" Jungwon replies, "He's never really mentioned that he's uh," he pauses trying to find nice words, "Inheriting a company."

"Is that so, Taemin? You shouldn't hide anything from your boyfriend," Taehyung smirks hinting at Taemin's powers. Taemin flushes in his seat looking anywhere but Jungwon.

"Oh, that's okay," Jungwon shakes his head, "It'll take time to fully open up to someone."

"You've been together for six years," Yuki states, "How much more time do you need to open up, Taemin?"

"I didn't want him to freak out," Taemin says in a low voice.

"Oh, I won't freak out," Jungwon says with a grin, "I'll listen but won't freak out. Maybe freak out after but I will hear everything you have to say."

"That's good," Taehyung replies looking intensely at his son; hinting to open up about his powers.

"You guys done catching up on everything without me?" Yuna scowls playfully while bringing dinner to the table along with Yoonjin. 

"No, ma'am," Jungwon says, "Sir was just asking me about my future plans."

"I see," Yuna says placing the dishes at the centre of the table, "Genetic engineering, right? Taemin's told me."

"Yes," Jungwon's grin widens.

"Any reason for taking interest in that?" Yuna asks settling down on the chair beside Taehyung. 

"I just really like trying to improve genes to bring forth strong species. It's honestly very exciting," Jungwon says almost jumping in his seat, "I cannot wait until I graduate and join a lab."

Take notes on everything he wants. Taehyung glares at Taemin. 

I am taking, dad. 

"That sounds really exciting," Yuna smiles, "I hope you get into the lab you want."

Taehyung glances at his son again.

I will help him get into the place he wants, dad.

You better.

"The food smells amazing, by the way," Jungwon says as his eyes and nose take in all the delicacies spread out in front of him, "Can't wait to taste them."

"Wine?" Taehyung asks.

"I'm sorry," Jungwon presses his lips together, "I don't really like wine."

"That's okay," Taehyung smiles.

"I'll get you your favourite juice," Taemin stands up but Jungwon stops him, "That's okay, Taemin. I'm fine."

"Are you sure?" Taemin asks, "I can bring it."

"I'll just settle for water," Jungwon says patting Taemin's thigh softly.

"Does Taemin treat you good, Jungwon?" Taehyung asks.

"Oh, yes Of course. He's the best. I love him. He's a really good boy," Jungwon replies and Taemin almost chokes when hears 'good boy' bringing all dirty memories. Yoonjin chokes when he hears Taemin's thoughts and memories. 

"You okay, baby?" Yuna asks passing a glass of water to Yoonjin.

"Yes, mom," Yoonjin scrunches his face in disgust taking the glass of water.

Yoonjin, stop!

"Yoonjin, been a while since I saw you," Jungwon chuckles softly, "Still as silent as before. Does Taemin bully you?"

"Oh, he's anything but silent," Yuki replies.

"See," Taemin scowls. Taehyung and Yuna giggle watching their kids squabble.

"When will we meet your parents?" Taehyung asks.

Jungwon's eyes widen, "You- You wanna meet my parents?"

"Dad, isn't it too early to meet his parents?" Taemin fiddles with his fingers.

"You've both been together for five years," Taehyung replies taking a sip of wine, "I don't see why shouldn't meet his parents."

"I- I would love for you guys to meet them," Jungwon replies, "They love Taemin. They love him more than me. I'm pretty sure they'll love you guys too! And my mom always tells Taemin she'd make great friends with Ms Yuna."

Yuna chuckles, "I'd love to meet your mom. She sounds like a great person."

"She is," Taemin pipes in.

The doors to the room opened, Arabella silent as her father and Aunt walked into the room. She’d been on bed rest for the past few days, recovering from her birth.

“Well?” Her aunt asked, “Boy or a girl?”

“Boy,” Arabella chuckled softly, holding the bundle of joy in her arms, “The doctor said he’s completely healthy,”

Ayden walked over in an instance, Arabella happily passing over the baby which he held up high. King Ayden rarely smiled, he was a fair ruler but he was harsh on wrong-doers and those that opposed their kingdom.

“Mother!”

Two more children came rushing in, a taller boy with black hair and brown eyes and another with brown hair and brown eyes. Her aunt stared at the children, who hugged their mother.

“Alex, Yoonjin,” Arabella smiled and hugged her boys, “I take it Aunt Grace is taking care of you both,”

“Yoonjin reminds me of you as a child,” Grace chuckled, “Same talents too,”

Arabella smiled softly, as the high mage and princess, she held a great deal of respect and power within the kingdom. Magic had come naturally to her, hence her position given by her father.

Mages couldn’t marry.

“We need to discuss something,” Ayden announced, sitting and settling with the Bub in his arms.

The princess frowned, kissing each of her sons on the head before ushering them away from the room. Grace closed the doors, looking at her family.

“People are starting to talk, Belle,” Grace whispered.

Arabella approached her desk, “About what?”

“The father of your sons,” Ayden hissed lowly.

“The people think the boys are a gift from the gods,” Arabella rolled her eyes.

“Not everyone thinks it,” Grace explained, “Alex is starting to look like his father-“

“He’s always looked like his father,” Arabella spoke calmly, “It’s just more noticeable now,”

Ayden sighed, “I can only protect you so much but I can’t silence people from gossiping, it’s only a matter of time before this gets to the Kim Kingdom-“

“And they find out you have three children with their protector of the realm,” Grace added on.

Arabella huffed, “It’s just talk,”

“Take the boys next time you visit,” Ayden spoke.

“What?!” Arabella turned with wide eyes, “Dad-“

“It’s an order,” Ayden stood up, “Let the boys meet their father,”

What about lawyer Namjoon who spots in his everyday 8AM bus this cute guy who is knitting in the front row. First he was just curious because he never saw a guy who masters the art of knitting, but with time passing by, he starts to find him so endearing, tongue out while he's going through some complicated pattern or a new knitting technique. What attracts his eyes are also the color of the skeins, always so bright and colorful. Through the months, he saw beanies, scarves, gloves, and even layette in soft baby blue.

And then, one day, after a really hard day trying to deal with a case, his colleague Jimin (wouldn't he be hot as a lawyer please...) suggests him to try knitting, this is what he does every night with his boifies (taekook) and he realizes that it was great. And he recommends Joon this pretty yarn shop around the corner where the sellers are really cool and have good advices. Our Joonie being really open minded is ok and then follows his friend's advice and goes to that shop. And meet that really tired guy trying to get rid of a handsome one (is he a model? Yeah ofc you recognize Yoonjin...). The tired one's face lits up once he catches Namjoon's eyes because hey here is my savior. "What can I do for you, Sir" he asks. Namjoon is a lil bit lost, the yarn shop is pretty and colorful and full of flower plushies and Snoopy.

"Hi!" Stutters Namjoon "my friend recommends me your shop, I would like to learn how to knit..." The other man smiles at him, gummy smile provoking the model guy sigh and murmur "you're so pretty Yoongichi please, let's have that drink..." "You're in the right place! Lemme help you choose your yarn and needles. My friend and co owner of this shop teaches knitting lesson so you can definitely learn with him." Then they choose some grey skein that is so fluffy Joon can visualise as a wonderful scarf... and maybe show it to his bus guy? They would finally have some common subject to talk to each other? And finally someone enters the shop, making Yoongichi (is that really his name tho) smile with relief and yelps a "Hobah!!!" Joon turns and then time stops because right on front of him is...

So ofc Joon takes his knitting lesson, ofc he spends more time with his bus guy, ofc he succumbs more n more under his charms. Add a lot of soft touches, lingering stares and whipped sighs from both side please. And then one day Joon mans up bc Jimin let him know that the guy told him he has a crush and it's a big No No for Joon because he still wants his chance so splurts a not-so-chic proposal for a date, after coming directly after his drink with the said collegue, totally tipsy -- no, drunk "bc I know you crush on someone but please give me a chance." Turns out the said crush was him. So ofc Hobi accepts the date and ofc they fall in love and get married and adopt a bunch of bonsais and kaws figurines.
